Stroke Prevention Made Easy: Essential Tips for a Healthy Life
A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, either by a blockage or a burst blood vessel, leading to brain damage. It's a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, but the good news is that many strokes are preventable.
Recognizing the Risk Factors
Several factors increase the risk of stroke, including high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle. Family history and age are also significant contributors. However, adopting healthy habits can greatly reduce these risks.
Embrace a Healthy Diet and Active Lifestyle
A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins is essential. Reducing salt intake helps manage blood pressure, while avoiding excessive sugar and unhealthy fats can prevent obesity and diabetes—both major stroke risk factors.
Regular exercise, such as brisk walking, swimming, or cycling, strengthens the heart and improves circulation, further lowering stroke risk. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week.
Supplements for Stroke Prevention
Certain supplements can support brain health and circulation. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil, help reduce inflammation and maintain healthy blood vessels. Coenzyme Q10 and magnesium can also support cardiovascular health. For those recovering from a stroke, these supplements may assist in the rehabilitation process.
Commit to a Healthier Lifestyle
Preventing stroke requires a commitment to a healthy lifestyle. By eating well, staying active, and considering the right supplements, you can significantly lower your risk and lead a life of vitality and wellness.

Can we please get something straight here??
Mitch McConnell has supported Donald Trump and will support him again if Trump wins the Republican nomination. I have never supported Trump and I never will.
Mitch McConnell has been a willing tool of the NRA and helped pass countless stand-your-ground laws, he has helped pave the way for laws like permitless carry, and he has helped make guns easier for anyone to get. I have not.
Tumblr media
Mitch McConnell has helped pass laws that intentionally suppress the votes of millions and millions Black people. I have not.
Mitch McConnell has helped write or pass laws that deny millions of women access to reproductive health care. I have not.
Mitch McConnell has helped write or pass laws that deny basic healthcare and living wages to millions of poor people. I have not.
I AM NOW AND I WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER than Mitch McConnell and Republicans, because my wishes do not have any material impact on anyone, unlike the myriad of hateful draconian laws that Mitch McConnell has helped to pass.
I could continue, but hopefully I’ve made my point: people sending Mitch McConnell “ill wishes” IS NOT being “just the same” as Mitch McConnell and Republicans, and it doesn’t make anyone “as bad as” McConnell and the GOP.
Are you fucking kidding me??
Saying that my wishes = McConnell’s actions is a false equivalence. It’s false, it’s offensive and it’s gaslighting.
Mitch McConnell is an elected politician who has a very long history of using his political power to actively harm the poor, marginalized communities, women, LGBTQ people, and non-Christian, non-white people. If you cannot differentiate between the words and the unenforceable “wishes” of the oppressed vs. the actions of an oppressor, then you have some serious problems to unpack.
I could ~almost~ see it if there was some chance that a Republican would go, “Oh wow, those progressives are being nice to Mitch McConnell, maybe I’ll stop being a racist and vote for a Democrat now.” But that almost never ever happens, does it??
You are not going to win over a Republican by being kind. Their entire ideology is based on racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and cruelty.
Look, I’m not tryna write a dissertation here, but please believe me when I say that this neoliberal knee jerk Pollyanna reaction of, “turn the other cheek” and “be kinder to your oppressors” is very much rooted in Christofascism + white supremacy. It’s a weaponization of the “hate breeds hate” trope and the “forgiveness narrative” meant to tame slaves, and I refuse to fall for it.
I absolutely positively do not wish Mitch McConnell well, and HELL NO, I am not being a bad person for hoping that a racist, evil, old white man suffers a fraction of the pain he has inflicted on others for decades and decades.
Tumblr media
I am a proud member of the #MitchMcConnellDieChallenge community.
That all said, at the very least, Mitch McConnell has unintentionally provided us with a teachable moment: please learn to spot the warning signs of someone having a stroke

The anniversary of my mini strokes are in the next couple of days.
I was just 24 when it happened, so it can happen at any age.
The day before I was hospitalized, I lost vision in my left eye and then it came back after I was done work.
The next night, I couldn't walk. I was lucky I didn't hit my head as I felt a bang go off in my head and went sideways and couldn't walk down the stairs.
I was at the hospital in under an hour.
Time is crucial when this happens.

so, uh, what incredibly lame-ass excuse for '''kuchiki business''' did byakuya claim he needed to attend to in the shattered remains of the seireitei in order to ditch rukia and renji so he didn't have to see them gross-flirting?

finally found a place to read With the Light online and i'm thrilled; if you haven't read this manga i do Legitimately recommend it
#N posts stuff#like don't get it wrong it Is Not a series about being autistic it Is a series about raising an autistic kid#but also don't be put off by that because it's legitimately a series that I feel Loves autistic people with its whole being#it's kind of a teaching manga so it showcases a lot of different opinions/characters/conflicts/etc. but the Framing is very consistent#in that the manga is Extremely of the opinion that autistic people are People who deserve to be Valued and Accepted As They Are#the onus for change is never put on autistic individuals the framing is basically Universal in the 'the World needs to change#to be more accepting' -- it's a very Social Model depiction of autism that ALSO never veers too far into the#'autism isn't even Really a disability' fallacy; it's very much a 'A lot of autistic people will need constant support in a variety of ways#throughout their lives but that isn't the roadblock preventing them from having their own lives; ableism in society is the roadblock'#the first two chapters are the hardest to get through bc they take place before Sachiko has any real understanding of autism and#so she's isolated and stressed out and the ignorance makes it difficult for her to care for Hikaru properly (there's also a lot of#other characters Blaming her for what's going on which goes unchallenged at this point though that changes later); but after she#understands what autism is she's Firmly in Hikaru's corner for the rest of the series - you can skip right to ch 3 without a problem#if you're not interested in reading about that initial conflict#there's still a Lot of conflict ofc but by then the chapters have some of my favorite moments so i don't want to advocate skipping#them; like Hikaru's daycare teacher explaining how Hikaru's difficulty speaking is the same as other kids' troubles with#things like jump-roping/etc.; and then a mother who has An Issue with Hikaru's presence in her daughter's class realizing the#depth of the problematic opinion bc Her mother (who had a stroke) faces similar ableism from her peers#i'm cutting this post off b4 the tags get Too long but if you're curious but still hesitant man. send me an ask and i will Happily#write an insanely long essay about how much i love this series; i have all the books i'm not excited about the online availability#for Me i'm excited bc i've been wanting to rec this manga for like almost a full decade and i can finally give you a link instead of#saying 'well. you can find used copies sometimes' lol

I already said this but if u make Aisha the tallest in ur fanart i hate u a lil
#i was gonna say tallest and buffest#and that’s true bc I still hate u a lil#just kinda less bc she’s implied to be the sporty one#but also It’s so so easy for y’all to masculinize black women#and It’s weird bc nobody every talks about how her role growing up prevented her from doing much#so even tho she’s super sporty now build wise it should be swimmer/dancer#and again I understand the liberation of women through musculature that’s literally where I’m at rn#but i don’t think y’all get the type of battle it is for black woman#‘but blank’ u say ‘the racial breakdown on magix is not the same as irl’#‘but random person’ I respond ‘racial dynamics exist irl and impact how we view our media and as early as s1 episode 12 Rai dub winx has#shown it’s not exempt from showcasing racial bias - that’s the Afro episode.’#anyways my point is#i get it and it’s not like I hate Black ppl racism#It’s more like that bath and body works accidental kkk racism#Steven universe in general#a lack of black ppl who know their shit in the writers room#and by the writers room I mean you#Ur tablet#Ur drawing of how big buff Aisha towers over dainty lil musa#who’s subversive bc she gets afforded the character trope of gremlin#well she’s still victimized and did nothing wrong in any of her relationships but she has sharp teeth in her wide grin so rlly it evens out#and aisha is. therapist friend.#no wait! she makes a sassy comeback bc Stella’s being vain!!#and then she’s stroking Musa’s hair and telling her ni- Oop men ain’t shit she don’t need no man!#aisha will just fill in :)#ok that last bit is a lot more venting frustration like that’s less to do with fanart and winx and more how racism bleeds through fucking#everything#so main main point is. stop being white?! enough!! also a lot of y’all can be semi normal about flora bc even tho she’s Latina it’s still hc#territory and y’all see her as like. white with an extra oomf. so the stereotypes y’all usually push onto Latinas are impossible to push w/#plus the way she’s written doesn’t have the leeway that the way aisha is. they both get whitewashed just the same tho sad

I suggested that maybe the city should postpone having a giant outdoor festival so it wouldn't coincide with a triple-digit heat dome extreme weather event and you would think I insulted the strength and stamina of every single person in Baltimore 🙄

would also add that elderly people and a lot of disabled people are much more susceptible to heat stroke & its effects and are less able to care for themselves so please check up on your neighbors and other elderly/disabled people you might know! if you can – offering to run errands, pick up groceries, or do lawncare can be a big help in keeping people safe.
For all of the northerners that stood up for Texas during our freeze and said, "Don't make fun of them, they've never dealt with this before. Their infrastructure isn't made for snow and freezing."
This one is for you.
Where I live 108°F with 80% humidity with no wind is normal.
Pacific North West is dealing historic best waves 35-40°C or 95-105°F.
First of all. Don't make fun of them for bitching about the heat. Just like Texas isn't built for a freeze and our pipes burst, Pacific North West isn't built for heat and a lot of their homes don't have AC.
If you live somewhere with a high humidity like 80+ HUMIDITY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. The "humidity makes it feel cooler" is a lie once it gets beyond a point.
If you live somewhere with a lower humidity, misters are nice to cool off outside.
Once you get over 90°F (32°C) a fan will not help you. It's just pushing around hot air. (I mean if you can't afford a small AC unit because they're expensive as hell, by all means a fan is better than nothing).
If you have pets, those portable AC units aren't safe. If your pets destroy the outtake thing, it'll leak CO2. Window units are safer.
Window AC units will let mosquitoes or other small bugs in. Sucks, but that's life.
Now is not the time to me modest. If you have to cover for religious reasons, by all means. If you don't, I've seen people wear short shorts and a swim top. It's not trashy if it keeps you from getting heat stroke.
If you do have to cover up for religious reasons, look for elephant pants or something similar. They're made with a breathable material.
Shade is better than no shade, but that shit it just diet sun after some point. Don't think shade will save you from heat stroke.
I know the "drink your water" is a fun meme now, but if you're sweating excessively you need electrolytes. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialite PLEASE. I don't care if you're fucking sitting in one spot all day. That shit WILL save you from heat stroke.
Most importantly. RESEARCH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION PLEASE!
If you're diabetic and can't drink Gatorade, mix water, fruit juice, and either lite salt or pink salt
If you can afford it, cover windows with thick curtains to insulate the house
If you have tile floors, lay on them with skin to tile contact. If you don't, laying your head on cool counters works too.
If the temperature where you're at is hotter than your body temperature, don't wear heat wicking clothing. Moisture wicking is safe though.
Check your medication labels. Many make you more susceptible to sun and heat
-Room temperature water will get into your body faster. This is something I learned doing marching band in high summer in Georgia, and it saved all of our asses. Sip it, don't gulp it, especially if you're getting into the red; same goes for whatever fluid you're drinking. And just in general drink during the day.
-If you are moving from an air conditioned space to an un-air conditioned space, if at all possible try to make the shift gradual. When my dad and I were working outside and in un-ac houses a few years ago, he'd turn the air down to low in the truck about ten-fifteen minutes before we got where we were going. This way your body doesn't go from low low temps to high temps. S'bad for you.
-If you can, keep your lights off during the day. Light bulbs may not generate a lot of heat, but the difference is noticeable when it gets hot enough. I literally only turn my bedroom light on in the evening when it gets too dark.
Don't be afraid to just like... pour water on yourself if you need to. The evaporation will cool you off.
Put your hand to the cement for 15 seconds. If you can't handle the heat, it'll burn your dog's paws. Don't let them walk on it.
Dogs with flat faces are more prone to heat stroke. Don't leave them out unsupervised.
Frozen fruit is delicious in water.
Wet/Cold hat/handkerchief on your head/neck will help you stay cool.
Pickle juice is great for electrolytes! You can even make pickle juice Popsicles!
Heat exhaustion is more, "drink water and get you cooled off." Heat stroke is more "Oh my god call 911."

[Image description: an infographic showing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The graphic is labeled "Heat Dangers: First Warning." Signs of heat exhaustion: faint or dizzy, excessive sweating, cool, pale, clammy skin, rapid, weak pulse, muscle cramps. If you think you or someone else may be experiencing heat exhaustion, get to a cool, air-conditioned place, drink water if conscious, and take a cool shower or use cold compress. Signs of heat stroke: throbbing headache, no sweating, red, hot, dry skin, rapid, strong pulse, may lose consciousness. If you think you or someone else may be experiencing heat stroke, call 911. Be safe.

World Stroke Day: Study Reveals Why Women Face Higher Stroke Risks Than Men

Stroke is one of the most serious medical emergencies, affecting millions of lives globally. Often referred to as a “brain attack,” it occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, depriving brain tissue of oxygen and nutrients. The result can be devastating, leading to long-term disabilities, paralysis, and even death if not treated promptly. However, stroke is preventable, and early intervention can save lives. In this article, we will explore the importance of stroke prevention, share tips from Dr. Kunal Bahrani, the best Stroke Doctor in Faridabad, and shed light on the critical role of timely treatment in minimizing the impact of stroke.
