Wanda Maximoff x Nerd!Reader (High School AU)
Tumblr media
You're not one to attend high school king Tony Stark's swanky house parties. But your best friend and popular magic user Wanda Maximoff personally invited you, batting her eyes, practically begging you to go with her.
Something about the atmosphere of the party just wasn’t your suit. Normally you’d prefer a night in, but Wanda wanted to be here and that’s all that mattered to you. You and Wanda make your way through the swarm of other party going students.
“Well who do we have here?” Tony smirks at seeing you with Wanda. “you finally got the turtle to come out of their shell, eh Maximoff?”
“Oh stop it, Stark” Wanda couldn’t help but laugh as she wraps an arm around you.
“It’s good to see you here, Y/N” Tony earnestly says. Despite all his showboating, Tony does care about his party guests and those he consider friends. He hands you a bottle of Coke. “Have fun” he gives a friendly wink before sending you and Wanda off into the crowd.
Wanda tries to bring you out of your shell, introducing you to some of the other popular students, taking you out on the little dance floor. The last one actually started to work. Something about dancing with Wanda just made you feel free.
“You’re a great dancer” she whispers in your ear, “you got some good moves”
“T-Thanks” you blush, “so do you”
The party was nearing its end. You happen to see Wanda whisper something in Stark’s ear. His eyes went wide with mischief. Wanda walks back over to you with a little blush on her face.
“Alright everyone” Tony calls out, “time for a little end of party game: seven minutes in heaven”
Everyone groans. “Not this again Tony” Natasha bemoans, “you always choose Pepper”
“Guilty” Tony smirks, “but don’t worry, it’s ladies choice tonight”
A few of the gals were shaking their heads laughing but Wanda was blushing. Carol was already taking Rhodey’s hand. Natasha was taking Bruce’s. You swear that Wanda was stealing little sideway glances at you.
“And first up” Tony gestures to Wanda, “Maximoff pick your partner”
Wanda takes your hand, blushing and batting her hazelnut eyes at you, “Mind joining me?”
Your mind couldn’t even process what was happening. You could only blush and nod your head. Wanda guides you towards a closet. Tony sets a chair down in the closet.
“Seven minutes” he says, “and only seven!” He shuts the door, leaving only you and Wanda in the close and intimate setting of a closet.
You turn and lock eyes with your best friend, her eyes hold only love and adoration for you. “Why me?” you ask her in a gentle whisper.
She guides you to sit down in the chair. She straddles your lap, wrapping her arms around your neck.
“You don’t even know how wonderful you really are” she answers back.
“But I’m a just nerd and you’re-” you stammer out, your heart practically beating out of your chest.
“You’re amazing, and intelligent and loving, and kind” she cuts you off, “everything I’ve ever wanted”
“You could have an athlete for a love”
“But I don’t want a jock. I want you and only you” her nimble finger massage your scalp. “Do you love me?”
Your eyes remain locked on hers, all the unsaid words come rushing out of your mouth, “I do. I love you so much Wanda Maximoff”
“Took you long enough” she giggles as she pulls you into a kiss. Your hands wrap around her waist, keeping her firmly in your lap. Wanda lets out gentle moans against your lips.
“A great dancer and kisser?” she giggles, “I may just have to keep you”
“I was always yours” you whisper back before kissing her again.
“Time’s up” Tony calls out as he reaches for the door. Wanda quickly locks it with her powers. She giggles against your lips, a little mischievous giggle.
“Oh come on!” Tony calls out, “how am I supposed to make out with Pepper?”
Pepper, the class president, smacks her boyfriend upside the head as you and Wanda remain lost in your own little world.
Wanda Maximoff, the most popular girl in school, but more importantly, your best friend and loving girlfriend. What more could you need?

Annoying Neighbour - Part 4
Tumblr media
A/N: It seems like it’s been a minute since the last update on this one huh? Two years, damn. Anywho here it is. Leave a comment, like and reblog if you enjoyed reading!
Pairing: Single Dad! Tony Stark x Reader
Warning: Angst? Yeah.
Word count: 1.8k
Annoying Neighbour Masterlist
.
“Hi, I’m Pepper, Tony’s ex-wife. You must be (Y/N).”
It had been an awfully long ten seconds before a reply finally fell from your lips. A weak ‘yeah’ that was barely over a whisper before Tony’s ex-wife clasped your hands together in a firm handshake. The kind of handshake that had you wonder if she was gauging your character and intentions with her husband…well, ex-husband.
A part of you wished to disappear from the site while another part wanted to stay put. The woman was quite stunning. A part of you pictured Tony and Pepper together as the ultimate power couple.
“Were you here to check up on Tony? He’s dandy.” Her tone made you so self-conscious, it was ridiculous. The way she spoke was condescending, even if she probably didn’t mean it.
“Um. Yeah, I actually brought him some food.” You pointed to the take out boxes that sat on the kitchen counter, shifting uncomfortably as Pepper let out a small chuckle, shaking her head.
“Well, aren’t you sweet? We actually were quite hungry.”
We.
What did she even mean? And where was Tony? Why wasn’t he here? You knew it’d make you feel better if he was. At least you had hoped for that.
Shifting uncomfortably on your feet, you decided it was probably best if you left. Pepper clearly wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon and Tony wasn’t here for an explanation.
“I’m gonna go. It was nice meeting you, Pepper.” You mumbled, giving her a small smile and a nod before heading out the door.
“I’ll tell him you stopped by!” She called after you, her tone almost mocking at this point, you thought.
Your brain was on overdrive by the time you reached your house. Why was Tony’s ex suddenly in his house? How in the world did she know about you? And most importantly, where was Tony? There were too many questions that needed answers.
As stressed as you were, a way of coping with that stress made you grab a pair of rubber gloves and scrub your kitchen clean. You didn’t know why but it always made you feel better. Even as a child, every time you were upset, you’d either take a walk outside, clean out your toys or do something productive, a habit you had picked up from your mum.
About an hour later, your doorbell rang, revealing Morgan clutching the hand of a man you didn’t recognise.
“Hi Y/N!” she greeted you cheerfully, making you grin wide as she hugged your legs.
“This is Uncle Rhodey. Daddy’s best friend. Uncle Rhodey, this is Y/N, she’s my friend.” She introduced the man who offered you a kind smile and his hand. Morgan in the meantime was distracted by a painting you had on your living room wall and made a run towards it.
Rhodey explained he was dropping Morgan off at her home but there had been a sudden turn of events, which led him here. He was hoping you’d look after her for some time while Pepper and Tony had a chat. Whatever that meant.
“I’m really sorry to spring this on you, Y/N, and I understand if you’re busy or not comfortable, it’s just that, she insisted on spending time with you.” he nodded towards Tony’s daughter, who was now busy looking at magazines you had lying around your table.
“It’s okay. I wasn’t busy and I like her, she’s a good kid.” you smiled politely at the man, before taking her small backpack from him.
“Tony mentioned he’d pick her up from here later.”
Oh. So he was talking then. Just not to you. And Pepper and Tony were going to ‘chat’ while you played babysitter to their daughter. Shaking your thoughts away, you thanked him as Morgan waved her uncle goodbye before closing the door and letting out a sigh. Certainly wasn’t how you imagined your day to go.
“What were you doing?” Morgan piped up, looking around your house curiously.
“Well, I was thinking about baking chocolate chip cookies, and I wouldn’t mind some help. What do you say?” you grinned watching her face light up at the mention of cookies.
You had always been good with children, it came quite naturally to you and Morgan was definitely a well brought up child. All thanks to her wonderful father, you thought. You were probably too quick to judge but Pepper didn’t seem like someone with a maternal instinct although she was a mom. With what Tony had told you and the fact that Morgan never brought her Mom up in any conversation you had had.
“Are chocolate chip cookies your favorite, Y/N?” she asked whilst mixing sugar and butter with a whisk as best as she could.
“They are. What about you? What do you like the most?”
“Cheeseburgers. Daddy and I love cheeseburgers the most.” she watched you beat the eggs and sift flour, bring the mixture together after adding chocolate chips which she mischievously snuck into her palm.
“Do you like my Daddy?”
You paused for a moment as you opened the door of the fridge to keep the cookie dough to chill, contemplating the answer. It was easy though. You liked him. A lot. It was bordering on more than like for you. Until today. Now , you were not so sure.
“I do, honey. I like him.” you gave her an honest answer, smiling a little as her face lit up again.
“He likes you too. He talks about you a lot.” Morgan offered you some chocolate chips she had stolen, making your heart jump hopelessly at her candidness.
You had some time to kill before the cookies would be ready to bake so you asked her to pick out a movie to watch while you cleaned up. The window of your kitchen overlooked Tony’s living room, which is how you’d often converse with the man. There was a flurry of activity that caught your attention as you scrubbed mixing bowls.
It was Tony and Pepper. Walking around the living room, deep in conversation that you secretly wished you could overhear. You saw Tony rub a hand down his face before Pepper approached him, placing her arms around him and cupping his face. Your heart sunk to your stomach as you watched them kiss.
“Y/N! I think we should watch Frozen! Come quick!”
The bowl clattered in the sink as you pulled your gaze away from the scene that had stunned you. Taking a deep breath you tried to ground yourself, pulling the curtains close and continuing with your task at hand.
“Be right there Morgan!” you tried sounding as cheery as you could, blinking tears away and offering her a big smile.
They kissed. Right in the living room, right before you. Albeit unaware that you had witnessed it. Your brain worked into overdrive as the movie played, Morgan hummed almost every song enthusiastically as she sat next to you, blissfully unaware of the goings on.
This was such a mistake. How could you have been so stupid? Getting involved with a man who had a family? They were divorced, sure. But there was no denying that they were still a family. It was always complicated with families, you knew that. But let yourself get swept off your feet by Tony. The last few weeks now seemed like a dream that had suddenly just come crashing down.
By the time you finished both movies, Morgan was half asleep in your lap and your eyes hurt from keeping unshed tears at bay. You made sure she was comfortable and covered her with a blanket before heading into your kitchen to bake the cookies.
There was a knock on your door as you paced about the kitchen while the cookies cooled down on a rack. In your heart you knew who it was, and your mind was screaming on the inside, cursing you for getting involved in this situation.
Tony stood leaning against your doorway waiting as you opened the door, the sight of him almost making you tear up again. But you couldn’t let him know what you saw. Though a part of you wanted an explanation.
“Hi hon. I wanted to say how sorry I was for not coming by earlier. You know there was a lot that happened with Pep–”
“Morgan’s asleep on the couch.” you cut his speech short, opening the door further to let him in before heading back to the kitchen. He figured you would be upset but he was prepared to apologize. What he wasn’t prepared for was how you were avoiding meeting his eyes.
“Thank you Y/N for looking after her, you really didn’t have to. And look, about what happened–”
“We made these together. But she fell asleep. So here.” you handed him a small container in which you packed the cookies, still avoiding his gaze as he picked his kid up in his arms.
“I understand you’re upset. But you have to let me explain, Y/N. Please.”
You gave in and lifted your gaze up to meet his eyes. Yet another mistake. It felt like your heart shattered all over again looking into those brown orbs that held earnesty. You quietly walked away and held the door, silently hoping he’d leave you alone. You could not deal with this, not right now.
“Could I come by later today? I really need to talk to you. Please Y/N.”
“This was a bad idea, Tony. I don’t think we should see each other anymore.” your voice shook as you uttered the words, blinking away tears that welled in your eyes.
You couldn’t wait any longer. So you did what you had to and shut the door on Tony’s heartbroken face before he could stop you. Sinking to the floor, you sobbed into your hands, aware of the fact that he was probably still outside your porch, listening to your crying.
It had to be done. Getting involved with Tony Stark was a big mistake.

Note
my roman empire is that i’m convinced there had to have been a second surgery during tony’s captivity. listen. listen. we don’t see it suddenly he just Has the arc reactor but ok. the electromagnet looks. fairly shallow. like we can see the bit that is the electromagnet and it’s in there a Little bit it’s not Fit Your Entire Hand In There like the casing for the reactor is later. there also isn’t an obvious like… casing around it. it’s just kind of Thing On There.
they had to fit the reactor in there somehow. likely had to make the existing,,,, space, deeper. i just… i’m obsessed with all the spaces during the captivity that we don’t see. did tony tell yinsen what he was doing? at what point did they have the discussion of how to get it in there? they had cameras! it must have been obvious at some point that whatever he was making was Not a bomb. especially when they got to having install it. and also “install” is. not a word that really conveys exactly what would have had to happen holy shit.
(also again, gotta be how stane knows about the reactor in the first place, right? the rings would have known about it and he was in contact with them. it wasn’t rhodey or pepper who told him.)
also. something i cannot stop thinking about. the “it could power your heart for a lifetime/or something big for 15 minutes” conversation and how that is one of Thee thrulines in both im1 and 2. tony consistently choosing to use the reactor in ways that make it more dangerous for him.
also. do you think that tony knew it would poison him. do you think even as he was making it and preparing to get it put in his chest he knew the palladium was going to be a problem. do you think he was always, from the second he woke up attached to a car battery, operating on the assumption that he was living on borrowed time?
i just. augh. AHHHH. im1 + 2 movies that make me INSANE
OH ONE HUNDRED PERCENT I AM ALWAYS SAYING THIS. YOURE RIGHT
the electromagnet was surface level. the reactor has Housing it has a big metal tunnel into his chest that pepper can stick her whole hand down to fish out an electromagnet and she has to play operation not to have the wire touch the casing on the way back out there is a Foundation Of Metal going on. also based on how it works there's definitely a pacemaker type of deal installed at some point here
guy has a titanium pringles can in his chest and it's got to be bolted into his ribcage so it doesn't move around like the first thing he and yinsen are drafting in that cave is 100% a solution for"how do we fit this thing into my chest without killing me" there just has to be a second surgery. and tony is NOT a doctor he is NOT a surgeon so yinsen's input is definitely needed here to make sure it also doesn't. like. kill him horribly god the cave sequence is grim
(obadiah knowing about the reactor from the 10 rings is both better and worse than finding out from rhodey thanks i'm pacing around the room)
raza doesn't look that surprised when he sees the reactor in tony's chest?? so i think we have to assume that at least Some conversation was had re: "listen the thing you want him to build is going to take longer than the week he has to live, the math does not check out, we have do to this one thing first" but like how tense was it buying that kind of time. i'm fine
IF YOU HAVEN'T READ REVISION BY KADIGAN......
also YEAH i DO think he knew as he was making it that the palladium was going to be a problem i think he started keeping tabs on it from the second he got home, iron man 1 and iron man 2 are just part 1 and part 2 of the same movie they're continuous they're back to back they're so good they make me insane

⬇ What I've Been Reading Recently! [In No Particular Order]⬇
Rivers and Roads (Rivers Till I Reach You) Series by peterparkersbff @pbpsbff
[Series Description and Notes] Zombie Apocalypse, No Powers AU centered on Peter, Tony, and Rhodey (But if we're being honest, it's pretty Peter-centric)
Updates will likely be posted out of order, but will be reordered so they are in preferred reading order. I'd recommend reading in series order.
Peter Benjamin Stark Series by MoonBoo
[Part 1, Stars Align Summary] Pepper is concerned about Stark Industry's image and organizes a tour for a group of orphans. It's during this tour that Tony meets a five-year-old Peter Parker, who is mute due to the trauma of witnessing Ben and May dying in a robbery, and realizes they're soulmates.
Time Brings All Things to Pass by MsWinifredQuale
Tony feels like he's in a good place right now. He's got a great fiancee, a makeshift but settled little family, and he's even in a fairly ok place with the former Rogues.
So naturally the universe decides to throw him some curve balls, when he gets a call one morning from the police claiming they've just picked up Howard and Maria Stark from the side of the road.
And that's not the only time-related event about to unfold.
Tony really hates time travel.
[Also includes de-aged Peter Parker]
Please obey the signs by Bergen
“This young man claims to have been invited by you personally.” Tony has learned to read Happy’s expressions. That one is disapproval, and it’s highly familiar. “Peter is helping me out in the workshop today.” “Why?” “Uh.” Tony has enough presence of mind not to carelessly throw Peter’s alternative identity around. “He won a competition.” Happy’s expression flickers, grows tense. “I did not approve any competition that included a trip to Avengers Tower.” “Okay. Well. If we had theoretically organized a competition, he would definitely have won it.” - Tony’s life lately has been a perfect storm of incompetence. But perhaps he can get some solid spiritual advice from a mischievous teenager with a secret identity he meets by the side of the road one evening, like a lucky little leprechaun. If only Happy would stop being so paranoid about Tony inviting a random kid into Avengers Tower, sheesh.
The Chill Factor by Tashie
5 Times Peter's thermoregulation caused issues +1 Time Others tried to do something about it.
Broken Thoughts (I Remember Everything) by blackwatchandromeda (avenris)
"Peter, who am I?"
He hesitates. "I'm sorry. I... I don't know."
Peter Parker has been missing for thirty-six days. When Tony Stark finally finds him, he's wandering around New York with no memories, unaware of where and who he is. The missing month is a mystery, and nobody knows what happened to him - least of all the kid himself.
Peter, meanwhile, is trying to piece together who he was. What doesn't help is the big secret he's sure Tony is keeping from him, or the way the man is avoiding him.
Nobody notices how the missing month is catching up to them until everything goes wrong.
(Not Infinity War compliant, but takes place after Civil War.)
When spiders tour their houses, chaos ensues by pirateninja9
"I am very pleased to announce that we’ve been invited for an overnight tour at Stark Industries.”
Join Peter and his Academic decathlon team on a chaotic field trip to the Stark Industries. Featuring a bullying teacher and student, a confused tour guide and many Avengers shenanigans. With luck like his, Peter should have known this would be as far from a normal tour as possible.
Mugs Are A Problem (I Do What I Want) by JAWorley
It’s not usually a problem. Tony doesn’t usually have to work so hard to hide it because Pepper, Happy, and Rhodey know. He can be himself around them. Right after the compound had been built, Tony had been worried about moving in with the Avengers full time… worried they’d notice his tics and figure out his secret. Then Germany had happened and the team had split up before they could fully move into the compound. Tony had had two years where he hadn’t needed to worry about it. Now that the Rogues are back and are living in the tower full time, it’s on his mind again and stressing him out. The problem? Coffee mugs. Well… coffee mugs, and other things and the fact that when he’s stressed out, the tics get worse. But mainly coffee mugs. Coffee mugs are the bane of his existence. OR Tony has Tourette Syndrome and he doesn’t want the Avengers (or Peter) to find out about it. The newly returned Avengers think Tony is just being a jerk when he knocks things off of tables and counters, because they think he’s doing it on purpose. Despite the angsty summary, this is all about the team coming back together and Tony learning that the people in his life can’t accept him as he is until given the chance to know him as he is.

Hello! I love your work so so so much it's so good!! I was just wondering if you could write a platonic yandere Tony stark with a biological male reader who wants to gain independence? Thank you so much 💗💗
Thank you so much, I'm always happy to hear someone likes my work!! <33
Also, thank you for requesting :))
Tumblr media
Growing up with a famous father, especially one targeted by numerous terrorist organisations in the past, you have a lot of regulations placed on you.
-Trackers, CCTV, bodyguards (that are only hired after a lengthy questioning), anything you can think of.
-You’d be home-schooled and would only go out if either Tony or Pepper (maybe Rhodey if it was urgent for any reason) can go with you.
-It was a way of keeping you safe at first, but it turns more into a game of keeping you where he wants you.
He knew you would want to explore more as you grew up, and, if if he was being honest, it scared him.
-What if you lost interest in talking to your dad and started hanging out with other people? Other people who could have any intentions and could easily break your heart?
-Or got dragged into danger just because of your ties with him?
-It was selfish to keep you isolated just because of his own insecurities/paranoia, but he justified it for his own mental benefit.
When you first approach him to gain some more independence, he shuts it down real quick.
-If it’s a small idea, like maybe getting your own bank account, he may go along with it, but he’ll probably hit you with an excuse not to.
-Like, “i’m a billionaire, ask and I’ll just get it for you”.
-He probably sounds patronizing on accident, which doesn’t help when you’re trying to be taken seriously for once.
-If it’s something pretty out there, like wanting to move out, you’re getting questioned (after a long silence).
-He’ll try to hide how offended/upset he feels about you even bringing up the idea but you can easily tell.
-He’ll desperately refute anything you’re saying, even if it means missing the point sometimes.
-You don’t want to completely cut him out of your life, but that’s what he’s assuming.
-He’s given you everything he can, done everything he can to be the best father? and yet you don’t seem to care (you do, mf is spiralling).
Obviously, the conversation ends with no but, in the aftermaths, he’ll think over your suggestions with a clearer head.
-I think the overall outcome of this depends on your personality.
-For example, if the sheltered-ness of your childhood is obvious and/or you’re more naïve than most, he’s more inclined to keep with disagreeing.
-You don’t know what it’s like without him, and he thinks you won’t be able to cope.
-However, if you’re more confident, aware of the world outside your bubble, he has a higher chance of agreeing.
-Though, not fully of course.
-It’d be more of a compromise that gives you the technicalities and him the actual power.
-For example, he’ll give you your own apartment. However, he’s paying for it all (meaning you have no control over your own finances), it’s extremely close to his, he shows up whenever (aka everyday), there’s probably CCTV outside and still trackers installed onto your devices, etc.
-It’s like you’ve moved into a slightly bigger bedroom rather than your own house.
He wants you to be happy, and you might be able to push your luck if you act upset over his decision, but, at the end of the day, he’s your father first - what he says, goes.
If keeping you in the tower, somewhere safe where he can watch over you, is the only way he feels content? That’s the life you have to live with, even if it means threatening your independence.

Reasons why I love it: I really like the Noir premise, especially Pepper and Rhodey being absolute badasses while helping Tony. Steve's prepared for the gargantuan insects, dangerous ravines, and crumbling ancient temples. What he isn't prepared for is his feelings about Tony.
Reasons why I love it: This fic gives me major Indiana Jones vibes, and it's everything I ever wanted! The setting and atmosphere are so good, and I can't blame Steve for falling head over heels for Tony. He truly is a dashing rake. This fic is wonderful, and you should definitely read it!

If you haven't read this one yet, you're seriously missing out, so get right on it!

Excerpt:
This morning is the first time he’s woken up thinking about home, longing for home, in a long time. Tony’s kept himself from those thoughts, firstly as a self-defense mechanism because there’s no point in wanting something there’s no hope in attaining. Later, he’d pushed those thoughts away out of a sense of confusion; he couldn’t align his newfound sense of guilt about his past behavior with the idea of going back home and picking his life back up. How can he manufacture weapons knowing the kinds of people who can get their hands on them? How can he tell Emory that she needs to turn her back on Rory Fall and her manipulative behavior when he’s been a similarly selfish friend to Rhodey and Happy at various points in his life?
But now? Now, he wants to get back there. He knows he can do better, has some ideas on how to achieve that. He wants to introduce Emory to Rhodey, to Happy, to Pepper. He thinks they’d get along. He wants to be there when Emory stands up to Rory. He wants to see her face when she sees the view from his house in Malibu. He wants to see her face when she meets JARVIS for the first time. He wants to watch her hair blowing in the wind riding next to him in one of his convertibles. He wants to share a bed with her.

Chapter Eleven: د لمر وړانګې
Now that Emory has clearly manifested some potentially powerful abilities, Tony spends more time being worried about her safety than he expected he would. Part of it is that he isn’t sure whether their captors have seen anything unusual while monitoring them via their surveillance camera. He doesn’t think they have recording capabilities, because that would require someone to spend time playing the video back to search for anomalies, and Tony thinks they’re too lazy for that. It still worries him, though, because in the week and a half since her vortex of particles, the view port on the metal door has been used multiple times a day. They’re het up about something, and nothing about that fact can be good.
His armor isn’t finished, but it’s close, and even that fact worries Tony. It’s too heavy for Emory, it’s powered by something embedded in his chest, and he doesn’t have time to make her a version even if she could figure out how to use her powers to help bear the weight so she could wear it. He can’t figure out how to protect her, and that’s completely unacceptable.
Tony’s taken to waking up in the early, early morning. The sounds of snoring from Yinsen have come to be an odd indicator of normalcy for him, but he looks forward to the musical noises that Emory lets out at around this time without fail. He’s come to accept that he has strong romantic feelings for her, feelings that will probably make their escape attempt a terrifying experience no matter what the outcome will ultimately be. Every night, when he wakes up and waits to hear the signs that she’s singing in her dreams, Tony thinks about the story that Yinsen told them about falling in love with his wife. Every night, his conclusions about that swing wildly from pole to pole, as he reconciles his life before this cave to what his life could look like once he gets back home.
Half the time, Yinsen’s story is a get out of jail free card of sorts. Developing feelings for someone you’re trapped with is human nature, the story implies, so the durability of those feelings are allowed to be questioned. If Yinsen and his wife had chosen to reject their newfound attachment, Tony sometimes reasons, they likely would have succeeded, because it was formed in extreme, somewhat negative circumstances. It’s only because they decided to be weak and acquiescent that they chose to remain attached.
The other half of the time, Yinsen’s story is a warranty, a promise that such a rocky start doesn’t have to mean an impossible, obstacle-laden path forward. Yinsen clearly adores his wife, and Tony’s not ignorant to the idea of trauma bonding. He knows he’s taken part in that, and not just because he finds Emory’s body attractive. She’s quick witted, deeply caring, and hard working, even to her own detriment. In many ways her struggles are the opposite of his own, and as he’s seen himself move along the path towards being less inwardly-focused, he’s watched her become more so. It might even be true that his overabundance of confidence has helped her recover from her own drought.
None of that can happen if they don’t survive this place, though. He’s been trying to come up with some kind of protective solution for her for days, but as Tony hears Yinsen stir in his cot and start the process of dressing himself, he thinks of something.
“Yinsen?” he whispers loudly, hoping not to wake Emory. It’s a tossup whether she’ll wake up early or not, usually depending on how late they spend talking the night before. Last night was one of the late ones.
As Tony had thought he might, the older man walks over to find out what Tony wants.
“Didn’t they give Emory two outfits? The red one and another one? What happened to the second one?”
“Too revealing, she said. I laid it near the rags,” Yinsen tells him.
After retrieving it, Tony sees what she meant. Where the red dress and trouser set is more of a traditional garment, this black garment is almost a caricature of the other one. It’s made out of thick fabric just like its red cousin, but this one has a low, curved vee neckline, silver beadwork on the chest, shoulder cut-outs, form-fitting sleeves with a light-weight filmy fabric draping down from them, and a double skirt made up of a miniskirt/shorts covered by more of the filmy fabric that tapers down from the hips. Tony could imagine that the lightweight fabric of the skirt and sleeves would probably float if Emory wore it and used any of her air manipulation powers.
The design on the chest is made of alternating half-moon shapes that make an undulating sort of V shape leading up from the waistline. They remind Tony of the profile of the curved missile carapaces they have no use for.
Tony looks over at Emory’s sleeping form and thinks for a while. He’s got a pneumatic attachment for his drill that could punch holes in that thinner metal. Would it be possible to cannibalize this outfit as a base to mount a kind of layered armor made from half-moon shaped slices of the missile skin? Even if it only served to dampen the speed of incoming projectiles, it might be better than nothing, especially if she can further slow them with her powers.
He lays out the ridiculous outfit on the table and shoots another look over at her. She’d be upset, he thinks, if she knew he was thinking about doing this instead of making the helmet and the other final tweaks to his suit. Ever since their captors had started to watch them through the door slot more often, Emory has been anxious about how long he has left before he’ll be finished. Tony had made the mistake of mentioning his habit of taking a break when he hits 90% on a project to work on something else, coming back a few days later with fresh eyes. He’d suggested to her that maybe they could come up with some kind of protective gear for her to wear during their escape, and Emory had been upset at the idea of any delay, even one to her benefit.
He’d be upset at the idea of her dying from something he could have protected her from.
Tony gets a pencil and a blank sheet of paper and starts sketching, using the garment on the table as his base.
Tumblr media
“What are you doing?” Emory asks him about six hours later, after they’ve eaten and she’s finished using her broom to sweep up the metal shards from his current phase of work. Tony hadn’t asked her to, but she’d come over and frowned deeply at the floor scattered with sharp pieces of metal. She’d frowned even more deeply when she found out he’d already gotten two stuck into his shoes.
Tony can’t help it. He feels cared for, even though Emory is kind of berating him for letting the pieces get to the point where they could fuck up his shoes. It reminds him of Rhodey’s brand of shit-talking kindness. Even though they’re stuck in this damned cave, her actions make Tony feel at home. He doesn’t want to tell her about his plan, though, because he knows her. She’ll ask him if he’s done with his suit, and if he isn’t, she’ll demand he finish it first. That’s just the kind of person she is. So, Tony prevaricates. It’s for her own good.
“Protection for the joints. Don’t want to end up with a bullet to the elbow, that’ll ruin my entire day,” Tony tells her, not making eye contact. He’s got too many of the slices for them to realistically be for the joints. They’re in a small, ratty cardboard box, so he starts moving some of the materials on the table, coincidentally setting some of them on top of it to hide them from her. The move probably would have worked on Pepper (or at the very least, she wouldn’t have revealed that she was onto him), but Emory is straight up suspicious.
“I thought you were working on the helmet today?”
“Well! I didn’t realize I was being spoken to by the Assistant to the Assistant Manager,” Tony teases, and Emory’s furrowed brows ease. “Had an idea, maybe it won’t pan out. Not everything can be about flamethrowers,” he says, shooting her a defensive sidelong glance.
She favors him with a crooked grin. “It’s a shame we can’t risk firing them off in here. I really wonder if I can make fire-nadoes with them.”
Tony looks over at her instead of at the box he’s trying to keep her from seeing. Emory’s got a look of devilish curiosity on her face that he completely recognizes. Maybe it’s because his assistant is already on his mind, but a thought floats up: Pepper Potts would never get excited about such a thing. While he’s distracted by that, though, Emory makes her move.
“Joints, hmm?” she says, holding up one of the half-moon slices of metal he’d been trying to hide from her. She’d snuck around behind him.
“Who are you, Anderson Cooper?” Tony asks, snatching it away, putting it back, and picking up the box to hold up where she can’t reach. “What does it matter?”
“I freely admit I don’t know you very well, at least the you that you are at home,” Emory says, her grey eyes steady as she looks at him. “Maybe you’re used to having multiple projects going at once… but it would make me worry less if you could finish the helmet, at least? If we need to hide it somewhere so they don’t realize what it is, I’ll sleep with the darned thing, I just--” Emory stops speaking and screws up her face as if she’s said too much.
She looks really worried, and Tony wonders what he’s missed by trying to stay away from her as much as possible while she tries to master her new abilities. The fact that his very presence nearby seems to generate the required energy is both gratifying and frustrating, but has it caused him to miss something important?
“What do you think I’m making instead?” Tony asks gently.
He can see that she’s embarrassed, and he is too, because it seems like Emory has figured it out that he’s making something protective for her, and she doesn’t know how to tell him to stop. He doesn’t want her to tell him to stop.
“You are a genius. You’re rich. You’re powerful. You’re important, to the world, and to me. I want you to finish your suit, I want you to make it out of here. Can you do that for me?” Emory asks, her grey eyes fired with the same passion he can hear in her voice. She’s practically shaking with the intensity of it.
“Hey, come here,” he says, trying to pull her close. She holds her body rigid, looks up at him with real fear in her eyes.
“Tony, promise me.”
“I’ll finish it, I promise,” he says. He holds her gaze for what feels like thirty seconds before she relaxes. Emory kisses his chest, over his heart.
“You’d better.”
They stand like that for a while, until yet again, the viewing port on the door is opened, and the two of them startle back apart. Emory heads back toward her cot, and Tony walks over to where he’s set up a decoy Jericho, a shell that hides some of the flamethrower and pneumatic parts that need to be affixed onto the suit soon. The suit will be large, and he won’t be able to keep the pieces scattered and hidden throughout the room for long, but putting it together will take a while too. Yinsen’s suggestion of creating a few ‘walls’ in the room that hide them from the surveillance camera has helped, but those only work when no one comes inside to peek behind them. The welded chest piece is under Tony’s cot, and the leg pieces are stacked up as if they’re old missile trash, complete with the ‘jet propulsion’ contingency he’d fitted them with.
Tony continues to try to look busy, but they’re not sliding the view port closed again. He looks over at Yinsen, who winces.
“Well, someone just dialed up the difficulty level,” Tony says.
There’s no way to disguise what amounts to a cosplay sewing project as a weapon of mass casualties, so Tony does actually end up working on his suit. He finishes up with the arms, essentially hiding behind his fake Jericho until just around his normal meeting time with Emory. She comes over, and Tony almost changes his mind about pushing her away when he sees the open, honest affection she has on her face. With that viewing hatch open, though, they just can’t risk their normal routine.
“Did you ever stay up past your bedtime working on stuff?” he asks her as he conceals the work he’s done just in case their captors come nosing around in the middle of the night. “You know, clock radios, television sets, lawnmower engines?” Tony knows she probably didn’t, that she’d likely have been up reading books or writing poetry, maybe practicing singing the same way she does now. He’s trying to set her up to forgive him for skipping out on their stolen evening time together, though, so he’s gotta pour on the charm.
“Oh, of course. Didn’t everyone try to build their own nuclear reactor with household products?” she says, waving her hand in the air dismissively.
“Exactly. You get me,” Tony smiles. “That’s my evening plan. Need to put some shit together under the blankets using my handmade flashlight--” he taps his chest “--now that they’re giving us less privacy.”
“Oh,” Emory says. There’s a wealth of disappointment but also understanding in that one word. She reaches up and kisses his shoulder. Without saying anything else, she starts back toward her area of the cave-- but she stops just once, and looks at the box he’d tried to hide from her earlier. She doesn’t even have to look back for Tony to get the message.
He hopes that she’ll forgive him when, in a few days, both projects will be finished.
Tumblr media
Emory finds it hard to sleep. Something’s up with Tony, and he probably doesn’t know that the blanket he’s working beneath is thin enough for her to see a slight glow in the center of the room. It’s not stationary, either. He works under there for long enough that Emory drifts off and wakes after a stint of fitful sleep only to see that he’s still moving around.
The period of sleep might have been restful for her body, but it had unsettled her mind quite a bit. Even before falling asleep, Emory had been consumed with uncertainty. Now, lying in the dark watching the man she’s fallen in love with work on a secret project he won’t divulge to her, Emory’s consumed with worry. She’s anxious about whether she’ll be able to protect herself and Yinsen while Tony takes the lead fighting their way out of the cave. After all, she’s been limited in the ways she can practice her strange new abilities in the limited space. If they manage to get away, they have no idea how long it’ll take for them to be rescued even once they get out of the terrorists’ reach. Their food probably won’t last very long, even though they’d started stockpiling bread and have been keeping the most edible dried beans in a separate container to carry with them when it’s time. Those are just the most present of her worries; the longer-reaching ones are even more fraught.
She might have to kill. Tony almost certainly will.
Even if/once they’re rescued, there are more considerations. She almost certainly doesn’t have a job anymore, not that she’ll be able to go home right away anyway. Emory’s seen enough movies and read enough historical nonfiction books to know that the government won’t be anxious to let them head home without a thorough accounting of their time, descriptions of their captors, and explanations of where exactly they’d been that whole time. Maybe she’s not prominent enough to have people still searching for her, two plus months after she was taken, but Tony absolutely is.
At least that thought brings some hope with it. It’s very possible that the US Military knows where they are, but can’t afford the political and manpower implications of a rescue. After all, Tony’s a weapons manufacturer. There could be arguments that spending blood and treasure (and risking international incident) to rescue him counts as preferential treatment. That might mean that the three of them just need to get far enough away from the terrorists to be picked up. If they don’t exactly know where they are, thanks to Tony’s prominence, there may at least be fly-overs looking for them just in case (though after two months, that’s probably wishful thinking).
But, once the three of them are released from those obligations, what will ‘going home’ look like?
The faint blue glow subsides, and Emory sits up in her cot, straining her eyes to see if there’s still detectable movement. She counts to sixty and doesn’t see any. Tony’s finally going to get some sleep, it seems. She should, too.
Her thoughts had already been trending toward what life might be like for her if all goes well and they return to the real world, and now that Emory knows Tony’s lying still, she wonders what he’s thinking about. Would it be giving herself false hope to imagine a life after rescue that has Tony Stark in it? Is there any chance he’s picturing her as a part of his life, too? She almost chuckles to herself; thanks to profiles done on him in magazines she’s seen, Emory knows what his house looks like, but she can’t picture herself ever visiting it. Even though she’s been ‘celebrity adjacent’ for over half a decade at least, she’d never reached his level.
“Go to sleep,” she whispers to herself, eyes locked to the specific part of the darkness that Tony’s cot is situated in, in case he hears her. There’s still no movement, so she takes in a deep breath, holds it, and lets it out slowly, trying to use that as a reset of sorts. There are many steps left before she can find out where she stands in Tony Stark’s life, and there’s no point in pretending she won’t enjoy the time she has left, even if it’s brief.
Tumblr media
Next chapter, Emory and Tony fight about being self-sacrificing, and Emory lets slip her true feelings-- right in time for the terrorists to come in and demand to know where their Jericho missile is.

Final Thoughts on Iron Man 3
You know. I've defended Killian for a long time. Not from accusations of Asian whitewashing because he definitely did that and there's no excusing it. But his goals. His ambitions. His plan. I've defended him from people who say he's a weak and shallow villain.
I realize now that it wasn't actually Killian I liked. Killian sucks. I just liked the scheme. I thought the scheme was pretty cool. I still think the scheme is pretty cool, even if it does brush up uncomfortably against 9/11 Trutherism.
I don't like Killian. I like A.I.M. I like Extremis. I like the Mandarin's broadcasts. I like the investigation and gradual uncovering of A.I.M.'s dirty laundry. I like the big fights with Brandt and Savin. I like the huge House Party blowout at the end with the President on the line.
I like the movie. Killian's just the cost of admission. And he didn't have to be. This movie could have worked just as well with a better villain, whether that be Maya or a more accurate portrayal of the Mandarin.
Iron Man 3 gives us a rare glimpse at a title superhero actually fighting crime. Tony gets invested in the Mandarin because one of his bombings injures Happy, then does investigative work, follows leads, and unwravels the Mandarin's true plan.
It's some good down-to-earth superheroing. There is so much to like here.
But there's also a lot to dislike. Rhodey gets screwed, getting to spend almost none of the action in his suit.
Pepper gets screwed even harder, with trailers that promise she'll be suiting up at last only for it to be a brief moment. She does get superpowers and get to take down Killian, but then immediately loses those powers. And that's after spending the entire film up to that point being reduced to a pretty toy for Tony and Killian to bicker over like ten-year-old boys.
And I'd be remiss not to mention that the only Asian character in the film, a film about the fucking Mandarin, is Trevor Slattery.
And Tony? This movie can't decide what it wants his journey to be about. It wants to talk about his PTSD from New York. But that's not a topic that connects to Killian in any way. So he just gets over it halfway through the film before setting out to confront A.I.M. It's super disappointing.
The main thing it wants to talk about is a fairly common superhero topic: Who is truly the hero? The man or his powers? Is Iron Man the suit, or is it Tony?
But Tony Stark is a weird character to try and have this conversation about. He doesn't have powers. He built his suit with his own genius intellect. Take it away from him and what do you have left? You have the guy who built the suit. And he can just make another suit. What the hell even is this question?
We already know who Tony is when he doesn't have a suit. He's the guy in the cave with the box of scraps who built the Mk. I. The film spends a lot of time on this question and it feels like time wasted.
And it still doesn't connect to Killian. So Tony and Killian just fight over Pepper.
This movie is divisive, and that is a reputation well earned. I'm generally more positive on it than others (though this watch did sink it in my eyes a bit). But there are a lot of valid criticisms to be levied here.

Just some small relationship and powers headcanons for basically being Danny Phantom and part of the Avengers…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Avengers x Male Reader
Peter Parker x Male Reader
Warnings: Single mention of sex
Summary: These are mostly related to your relationships with the other Avengers…
(A/N: This isn’t really a part 2 of So your basically Danny Phantom but your also part of the Avengers… + Peter Parker becomes your boyfriend… it’s more like extras, like deleted scenes)
——
Wanda
Wanda and you would have weird relationship at first, because both of you would act quite reserved and wouldn’t make a lot of conversation.
But then one day you’d see her cooking in the kitchen and you asked ”Hey, what are you making?”. Wanda looked up from the the food and said ”It’s a sokovian dish, my mom used to make it, it was my brothers favorite”.
”I’m sorry about your parents and brother, Natasha told me about them” you said apologetically. ”Thank you, would you like to help me cook?” she asked. ”Yeah sure, what do you want me to do?” you answered enthusiastically. ”Can you cut up that onion?” she asked. ”Of course” you said.
From then on you and Wanda developed kind of a sibling relationship.
Rhodey
Your’s and Rhodey’s friendship consists mainly of the two of you roasting each other, but somehow you’re also kind of bffs and are ready blow up the earth for each other.
The two of you also have a habit of ganging up on Tony and make fun of him instead of each other.
Tony
Tony has basically adopted you as his son and tries his best to be the cool and not to overprotective. He can do the cool part but he needs to work on the overprotective part.
Part of the reason why he’s so protective is because he’s the one who found you in the rubble of your old house and he felt as if life was telling him to take care of you.
Peter (small nsfw part)
Peter would bring you on a visit to Midtown to meet your old classmates from before you were taken in by the Avengers. Mj who was a friend of yours was happy to finally see you again.
And to Peter’s displeasure Flash was also happy to see you and immediately started flirting with you as he had done before. But you were quick to shut him down as you always had.
(Nsfw part) You and Peter would experiment with ways to use yours and his powers during sex to make it more exciting.
Powers
Intangibility
When you were first getting used to your powers you sometimes phased through the floor fell down to the floor beneath. One time you were on your way to your room but your powers activated and you fell into the kitchen were Tony and Pepper were having lunch together. Pepper screamed as you landed on the floor next to her but Tony just casually asked ”You okay kid?”.
You and Vision never use doors to enter each others rooms because you can both phase through solid materials.
Invisibility
Just a day after you found out that you could turn yourself and your clothes invisible you walked into the living room where Rhodey was sitting on the couch. He looked at you strangely and asked ”Where are your pants?”. ”What do you mean?” you asked and looked down on your pants only notice that they weren’t there.
You could still feel that your pants were on they just weren’t visible. But luckily enough your boxers were still visible but unlickily it was your Black Widow boxers, which were black and covered in red hourglass shapes.
So Rhodey started laughing and said ”Are you wearing Black Widow boxers?”. So you decided to sass back saying ”What should i be wearing? War Machine boxers? Oh wait… they don’t make those cause no one cares”. But Rhodey continued laughing anyway.
Ecto-Plasm Energy
It started at your first mission with the Avengers which was to take down a remaining Hydra base and since you started being able to control you intangibility and flight they thought you’d be safe enoungh to bring along.
And everything was going fine on the mission so far. They had paired you up with Steve so he could show you how they do things. But things started going a bit south when they sent an enhanced human to attack you and Steve.
Steve was almost overpowered by it but when you intervined you somehow managed to create a beam of green ecto-plasm energy which sent the enchanced human flying through the hallway you were in and into a wall. After that all you could do was utter a small ”oops”.

Dancing In The Dark
Some WinterIron fluff
***
I have a lot of feelings about Tony Stark and the dark, and this almost got long and angsty with throwbacks to Pepper and Rhodey memories, but I was able to avoid that to keep it fluffy! Enjoy!

It's not that Tony is afraid of the dark, per se, it's just that ever since the cave in Afghanistan, and the endless vacuum of space, the dark is… more like a reminder of all the ways he's helpless. More like a suffocating weight pressing in from all sides. More like a voice whispering in his ear "You'll never be able to save them all".
Now, without the arc reactor and it's ever present glow to take the edge off of the worst of the darkness, Tony has surrounded himself with backup lights upon backup lights– all powered by arc reactors, all over the Tower. He can't be caught in the dark anywhere in his home.
Only right now, he's not at home.
He's in a newly acquired safe house that he hasn't had a chance to fit with the same amenities, and the power has gone out. It's overcast and the moon is barely a crescent anyway, so there's no natural light leaking in – if it could even get through the heavily shrouded windows.
There's a low humming in his ears, and he can feel himself starting to panic, but then there's a warm hand curling around his elbow, and a warm familiar voice saying his name, calling him back from the edge. He tears his eyes away from the barely visible outlines of the room to where James stands in front of him, his shape just discernable but still grounding.
"Hey, since a movie date's not in the cards, you wanna go dancing instead," he asks easily, like they really were rescheduling a planned outing instead of waiting out the next stage of a mission in an unfamiliar safe house, in the middle of an unexpected blackout.
"Dancing?" Tony asks, his voice a little tighter than he'd like, but before he can argue about the lack of music, James is sliding his metal arm around his waist to settle at the small of his back and threading their fingers together with the other hand.
"Mhmm," James hums, starting a gentle sway that Tony falls into easily, dropping his head on James' shoulder and breathing out a sigh, feeling his whole body relax as he lets his eyes close and melts into the firm, gentle hold James has on him. "I know you don't mind my singing voice, and I sure would enjoy if you wanted to supply the music, but if you don't mind waitin' here a minute – and you promise not to make fun of me – I got one a' those mp3 things in my bag."
Tony jerks back, an incredulous look on his face, momentarily forgetting that they can't really see each other, but James knows him well enough to know it's there, because he chuckles before Tony even says "An mp3 player? Seriously? I give you the most advanced smartphone on the planet, and you still have an mp3 player? At least tell me it's Stark tech; where did you even find one?"
James is still laughing, still leading them in a not quite dance when he answers. "Of course it's yours, still working ain't it? And when you gave me that list of music I just had to know, Clint countered with his own list, then the Spider kid had opinions, and Friday and Rhodey all put up their own must know lists, an' I needed somewhere to put them all. And I wanted something that was just for all the music. So Fri helped me find one in a drawer in the lab, and put everyone's favorites, and some of mine on there, and I got in the habit of bringing it with me."
Tony is overcome with fondness, and takes his hand from where it rests on James' hip to cradle his face, his thumb tracing along his cheek, stubble scraping pleasingly against his thumb. "You're adorable," he says simply; stating a fact steeped heavily in affection.
James hums in acknowledgement, and tugs Tony close again. "So, what's the verdict, are we serenading each other, or do I get my adorably outdated technology so we have some tunes?" James mentally tacks on and some light, but doesn't want to voice it, since Tony is calm at the moment.
"You can get your mp3 player," Tony says, and James can hear his disbelieving expression clearly, "But in a minute," he adds before James can pull away, tucking himself against James' chest and nuzzling his nose against James' jaw lightly. "In just a minute."
James wraps his arms around Tony snugly, and presses a kiss against the top of his head. "Sure, sweetheart; in a minute," he repeats back, starting to hum a nameless tune, adjusting their still clasped hands closer to their bodies, and adding an easy shuffle-step to their dance. Tony snorts lightly against his shoulder, and easily picks up the new move.
They dance together, in the dark of their safe house, for a long while.

What is Tony’s fav soup? In fact, all the fav soups of the avengers go!
(please)
OMG anon heyyyyyy!!!
Thank you SO much for this ask I am literally sitting you down at my dining room table right now and offering you my favorite homemade roasted tomato soup with roasted garlic bread that I made this afternoon just for you and i hope you don't mind i've already packed you a tupperware to go too <3
Edit! Forgot to mention that this ask was most definitely inspired by this post!
JARVIS (AKA my favorite Avenger don't come at me): JARVIS loves alphabet soup lol!! ................................................................please clap
Rhodey: Roasted Tomato Soup with Roasted Garlic Bread (as aforementioned!). Why mess with the classics?? Bonus: Rhodey never passes up the opportunity to assault Tony with his weapons-grade garlic breath before Tony begs him to please go gargle some mouthwash NOW.
Bruce: Haleem. So much of his life is trying to fight against the hot anger and turmoil within him that seems to tear him apart from the inside out. The first time he had haleem was while he was in hiding in India when a lovely woman whose name he never caught saw him shaking against the side of a building in the street and offered him a bowl to eat when she coaxed him to come join her and her family for dinner that night. I firmly believe in the divine healing powers of women you don't know who offer you a brief and selfless kindness during the darkest moments of your life and I know Bruce does too. Sometimes it's nice to let yourself feel the sort of warmth without jagged edges that can only come from a kind stranger or a desi stew <3
Thor: is ambrosia a soup or a drink? let's go soup. I feel like thor doesn't care much either way for most midgardian foods BUT i also feel like one time he had the most god awful hot dog soup at a diner in New Mexico and was forevermore Compelled by it.
Clint: Clint does not like soup. Why would he, after all, it's barely food and it's certainly not a drink. When Clint wants to eat he wants to chew his food like a grown man, damn it! No, Clint definitely does not like soup. And he certainly does not keep a can of Campbell's Tomato A to Z's in his pantry to eat on nights when Laura is visiting her mother and the kids are all out for some reason or another--going to the next town over for a baseball game or an overnight band trip or sleeping over at a friend's house--and he just can't believe that they're growing so fast and he remembers feeding all his babies A to Z's while they were squirming around in the high chair and then having to finish up the half-spilled bowl himself before it became a fully-spilled bowl. It definitely doesn't taste like nostalgia and stability and family. Definitely not.
Pepper: French Onion. Classy and sophisticated, you can't cut corners with this soup. This is a luxurious soup, but instead of highfalutin ingredients or 36-step recipes, all the luxury is derived from time and care; a soup for one with high standards, discerning taste, and a lot of love in her heart <3
Natasha: Thai Corn Soup. Spicy and comfy and perfect in every way. May seem a bit intimidating for a home chef at first, but practice is the key and it takes much less practice than you'd think to make the best thai corn soup <3
Steve: Tom Kha Gai. This was definitely a case of Steve bemusedly getting dragged all around New York by Tony and Natasha and Pepper to try out all the international cuisines he's never heard of before and then having a quasi-religious experience in the restaurant because he did not know soup could taste Like That. No recipe because honestly neither Steve nor I have the clearance to make this. We prefer getting it straight from our favorite local Thai joint.
Tony: Vegetable Beef Soup. No recipe here either, though there was one at some point--Tony seems to recall a step involving flour that Steve always thought was bullshit so they skipped that step every time and then eventually just stopped using the recipe altogether. What goes in this soup? Tony couldn't tell you, though to be fair he wouldn't be able to tell you what goes in most of the food he's ever eaten that's usually prepared by butlers and high-end chefs, but he could most definitely show you the ingredients that go into this soup. It's all in the muscle memory, bustling about the kitchen in the kind of easy unspoken choreography that says i want to stay here forever with you. The ingredient list changes a bit every time depending on what's around, but Tony could recognize this soup anywhere. This is kind of soup you make with and for a very special someone. This is the soup you make when what you're really making is a home together <3

Previous / Next
Tony doesn’t enjoy fighting. Which is kind of ironic considering that he is seen as a hero that has to fight the bad guys for the greater good. But as much as he dislikes fighting he knows that ever since Yensin he can’t just stand by the side he has to help people and Iron Man is one of the only ways he knows how.
Flying to confront Ivan and Hammer was not how he wanted to spend his evening. In fact, he really wanted his evening to consist of eating crappy take-out and watching a movie with his personal assistant Liza. Is that weird? No, she’s one of his closest friends. Hell, the only reason she is still his personal assistant is so that he can have her around all the time, plus he would be lost without her. He tries not to dwell on the pit that opens in his stomach when he thinks of her leaving again. Tony is wrapped up in his thoughts the whole way to Manhattan, he is hoping that he will be able to reason with Hammer, but he has a sinking feeling that he won’t. That feeling is confirmed when Hammer acts like he has no idea what Tony is talking about. But it’s when Rhodey’s suit takes aim at him along with all the drones that everything goes to shit.
Tony flies away from the crowd, all of the drones and Rhodey following after him. He calls for Jarvis to break into Rhodey’s suit so that they can get back control but nothing is working. So, Tony does the only thing he can do: he fights. Luckily Natasha is able to override Rhodey’s suit and give him back control. They spend too much time arguing about who should have the high ground that they are suddenly surrounded. Having each other's backs they fight and destroy all of the drones. But as Tony is learning, nothing is ever easy and Ivan has outdone himself with the new electrical whips. Using the move that ended up mainly destroying his mansion, Rhodey and Tony fire their repulsors at each other, the resulting black fatally wounding Ivan. Before dying Ivan looks at Tony with a smirk. “You lose”
The drones begin to flash and all Tony can think about is getting everyone including Pepper out safely. Luckily Pepper is clever and had called the police when everything had started meaning almost everyone had already been evacuated. Everyone but Pepper who was standing right next to a drone. Barreling towards her as fast as possible, Tony gets ahold of her right before the drones detonate. Flying her to a roof out of the blast radius he sets her down.
“You just had to be a hero and stay back didn’t you?”
“I had to do something Tony you know that.”
“No wonder Happy is your soulmate, you are both way too self-sacrificing.”
“Tony”
“No you don’t get it Pep, I love you. I will always love you. But I don’t get to be with you just because some arbitrary higher power says you should be with someone else?” He is yelling now, angry at her, angry at himself but most of all angry that he will never get to have a soulmate. That he will never have that kind of love. A change in the display on his helmet distracts him. “Jarvis, what was that light that just went off?”
“Miss Elizabeth was watching from the house to make sure you were ok, she just cut the feed.”
He doesn’t have long to wonder about that bit of information before Pepper calling his name pulls him back to the conversation at hand.
“Tony, I know you love me. But it’s not romantic love, I have always been there for you and you have equated that devotion to love. But you don’t love me that way, not really.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because for a genius you’re an idiot. I’m not going to spell it out for you Tony, you will have to figure it out for yourself. I’m not the one for you, and who knows maybe one day you will get your mark and find the one. Just, don’t give up on love just because I don’t return your feelings ok?” Tony just nods, too tired to say anymore, too tired to think anymore. All he wants is to get back to his house and make sure that Liza is ok.
The whole way back to his house he is on autopilot, not really paying attention to anything around him. As always his thoughts are going a million miles an hour but the common denominator throughout is you. Tony tries not to think of the implications. Arriving back at the mansion Tony calls out for you as his robots remove his suit.
“Jarvis is Elizabeth here?”
“No sir, Miss Martin left shorty after cutting the feed to your suit.” Tony’s stomach drops. You left, again. Why would you leave? Did he do something wrong? You were watching the feed, did you leave just because you knew he was safe? Or did you hear what he said to Pepper? He shakes his head at that thought. Even if you did hear it shouldn’t be a reason for you to run away again right?
“Do you know where she went?”
“The location on her phone suggests that she is back at her apartment sir.”
Hearing that Tony’s heart rate slowed back down to a more normal speed. You hadn’t run away again you just went home. You must have been tired. But then why didn’t you just stay in the guest room here instead of driving all the way home? He would call Sarah in the morning to make sure that you were ok. Stepping into the kitchen he notices that there is food in Tupperware on the counter. Opening it he sees some jambalaya and cupcakes. You must have made them while you were watching what was happening. He sighs, why didn’t you wait for him to get back. He knew he wouldn't sleep well without the answer so he warmed back up the jambalaya and headed down to his lab to work out some of the kinks on his suit.
Tony’s first thought as he came back to consciousness was why the fuck does my back hurt so much? Followed quickly by my bed is way more comfortable than this. Prying open his eyes he realized that he must have fallen asleep at some point in his lab. Taking his time so as to not aggravate the crick in his neck that was making itself known, Tony slowly sat up. Wiping a hand at the drool that had collected around his mouth he took stock of the room around him. There was the barest bit of pink showing through the windows so it was still very early. The piece he had been working on had fallen off the table at some point during the night. He could feel a screwdriver-shaped divot on his cheek from where he had placed his head and his whole body ached.
“I really need to get into yoga or something if I’m going to keep this shit up.” Tony takes a moment to stretch out the knots in his back. “Jarvis, what time is it?”
“It is 5:30 am sir, you were asleep for 3 hours which is 30 minutes more than yesterday.”
Tony snorts at the extra information. Leave it to Jarvis to try to guilt him into sleeping more. Walking up the steps towards his room he starts to think out a plan for his morning. It’s too early in the morning to call Sarah yet and ask about Elizabeth, so I will need to waste a little time.
Tony spent 30 minutes in the shower staring intently at an inconsistency in the tile before he was able to shake himself from his thoughts. Washing his hair quickly he stepped out, wrapping himself in a towel he walked over to his closet. Deciding on a Black Sabbath t-shirt and a pair of jeans he grabbed his phone and dialed Sarah’s number. He knew for a fact that she would be awake considering she needed to be at work early that day to put some finishing touches on the project she had been working on. Sarah answered on the second ring.
“Hey Tony, I was wondering when you would call.”
“Then you know why I’m calling.”
“Of course I do, you’re worried that Elizabeth ran away again and whether she is ok or not,” Sarah states as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“And?” Tony’s impatience starts to show through his tone, no matter how much he was trying to hide it.
“She’s here, sleeping still, she had a long night.” She reassures, knowing that he won’t calm down until he knows that you are safe.
“I’d like to come by and talk with her.” Tony is pacing now, he’s not sure when it started but he isn’t sure that he will be able to make it stop. All he can think about is how much he needs to see you, to make sure with his own eyes that you haven’t left again. He is pulled out of his thoughts by Sarah’s voice through the speaker.
“Sure, I won’t be here though, I have to get to work, but I’ll leave a key under the mat. You should wait at least an hour before heading this way, I doubt she’ll be waking up anytime soon.” With that, the call disconnects after a hurried thank you.
Tony decides that he can’t stay at his house any longer all of his nervous energy is making him restless so he does what he normally does when he feels this way, he goes for a drive. He is able to distract himself for exactly 30 minutes before he decides to head to your house, grabbing you your favorite muffin and coffee on his way as a peace offering. Walking up to your apartment he takes a deep breath, he can’t remember the last time that he was this nervous but he doesn’t allow himself to dwell on why before finding the key and letting himself in. The size of your shared apartment is the first thing that he notices, it is much too small for you and Sarah especially when you do so much for him. He starts a list in his head of everything he needs to do in order to build the two of you a house closer to him and closer to Stark industries. It would have to have a large garage for Sarah and an equally large library for you, with a large window seat for you to read in. With his plans firmly in mind, he sits down and starts writing emails and looking at available properties. After all Tony Stark is nothing if not efficient.
He has just finished with one of his emails when he hears you start moving in your room. He forces himself to relax on the couch and school his face to disguise his nervousness. The door opens and he decides that this version of you has just become one of his absolute favorites. You are in a too-large t-shirt and comfy-looking short shorts, he may check out your ass for a moment too long, the shorts don’t help. Your hair is piled up in a bun on your head, little pieces escaping and framing your face. He can’t help the smirk that graces his face when he realizes that you haven’t seen him yet.
He watches in amusement as you step out of the bathroom with your toothbrush hanging out of your mouth before your eyes land on him. He can see the exact moment that you noticed him when your whole body freezes. He chuckles to himself as you let out a squeak and rush back into the bathroom, the water running as you clean out your mouth. He watches you closely as you step back into the living room, trying not to frown at your withdrawn body language.
“Mr. Stark, what are you doing here?” He isn’t able to hide the frown at the coldness of your voice or the fact that you didn’t call him Tony. He decides that being blunt is the best way forward.
“You left me.” He hears himself say, he is glad that there is no trace of how upset he actually is. He watches the confusion cross your face as you state that he left you first. He has to reign himself in from saying that it wasn’t the same and how much he wanted to see you when he got back.
“Yes, but I had to and when you told me to come back to you I thought that you would be there when I did, but you were gone.” He knows that you will be able to see how upset he actually is no matter how much he is trying to hide it but he can’t seem to let himself be that vulnerable right now. Not when he wasn’t sure how you would react. He tries not to get annoyed at the obvious lie in your answer, your bed at his house is just as comfortable, in fact, you had mentioned to him multiple times how much you preferred your room at his place. He hears the pleading note in your voice and decides not to call you out on it too hard.
“But you stayed long enough to make me dinner and cupcakes?” He raises his eyebrow and studies your reaction, his voice is taunting but he can’t seem to stop it.
“I stress bake.” is the too quick reply, followed by a small amount of truth, “and anyway I stayed until Jarvis told me that you were ok… I thought you would appreciate getting home and being able to go home… not worry about me.” He hears only part of what you say watching instead, the way that you are fidgeting and pulling at your fingers. He hears a trace of melancholy in your voice at the end of your sentence. Wait, you thought that he wouldn’t want to see you, that he wouldn’t want to see that you were safe. Oh no that just wouldn’t do.
“Sure I was tired but I definitely wanted to see you first.” He doesn’t back down, you have to understand how much you mean to him. He can’t help but feel a little agitated at your responses he can tell that you are lying to him but why? You never lie to him, you never hide from him like this so why start now?
He can hear the anger and sadness in your voice when you ask why it was so important for him that you were still there when he got back. His resolve begins to slip at this, why couldn’t you see that after the worry and adrenaline he had dealt with that night all he wanted was to see you?
“Because I was worried about you!” He cringes internally at the volume of his words, he didn’t mean to yell but he just couldn’t see why you weren’t listening, why you didn’t understand. Your answering question just causes his voice to raise a little more as the words that he has been trying to keep back spill out of his mouth.
“Because I thought that you would leave again!” He stops himself for a moment taking a deep breath before continuing with a softer tone. “I was worried that I would get back and you would be gone. I was worried that you would leave again, that you would run away again. Then I wasn’t able to get ahold of you this morning so I called Sarah to see if you were ok.”
He watches as your body seems to deflate at his words, your head dropping, and your gaze on the floor. “I’m sorry, Tony. Truly. Something happened while I was waiting for you to get back and I needed to have some time to collect my thoughts. Coming back to my apartment seemed like the best way to do that.” Your words and tone soothe the ache in his chest that he hadn’t realized had been there until it was gone. You were still here, you were safe. He allowed himself to relax a little bit but he still hoped that you would tell him what was actually bothering you, but he could be patient, for you he could.
“I’m not going anywhere, Tony. You’re stuck with me.” Your voice saying his name again allows him to release the rest of the tension that he had been holding onto. He smiles and walks over to you, pulling you into a hug and holding onto you just a little too tightly to be strictly platonic. He grins when he feels you hug him back before pulling back and clearing his throat, trying to act like it wasn’t a big deal.
“Don’t scare me like that again,” he says completely serious. You let out a small laugh before asking whether you should be saying that to him. He allows himself a large grin before turning on his teasing personality.
“Nope, only I get to make that request.” He can’t but reach out and grab your shoulder, enjoying the momentary contact before heading towards the door, calling back as he leaves “Enjoy your day off, I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow morning. I hope that you start to feel better.”
“See you tomorrow Tony, try to stay out of trouble for once.” You shoot back. He is unable to keep in a snort at your words before the door closes. He stands in the hall for a moment taking deep breaths, to calm himself before heading back to his car. Maybe he should just take the day off as well. This morning was enough for him to think about.

@myatonements did u want a novel?
tony wakes up.
his right arm aches; a burning, cramping ache, but nothing like the agony of using the infinity stones. he flexes his hand experimentally, but if anything that makes the pain fade, until it’s just an afterthought. an echo. tony frowns, and opens his eyes. blinks at the familiar-yet-unfamiliar ceiling, turns his head and finds himself staring blankly at his old malibu bedroom.
is this…. some kind of afterlife? is that what this is? he wants to say no, because he doesn’t BELIEVE in that kind of thing, but. well. he knew that using those stones would kill him. he hadn’t much cared, because nat was---- nat was-----
if this was the afterlife, then she should be here too, right?
tony bounces out of bed, the smarting in his chest easily ignored as a minor irritation, lands on his feet shakily. “hello?” he says outloud, wondering, wondering-----
“good morning, sir,” jarvis says, and tony freezes. swallows.
“hey j.” he smiles, shakily, beaming but with growing confusion. “do you know what’s going on here?”
there’s a pause. “it’s the nineteenth of may, sir. mr hogan is due imminently for your boxing session, miss potts is coming over with the notary from the legal department at nine-thirty to sign your company over.”
“what?” tony stares blankly at the wall, turning on the spot, looking around the room, disorientated. “WHAT.” he stumbles, hand creeping up to his chest as the muscles contract painfully, and---- shit. tony strides towards the window, snapping his fingers to turn it into a mirror. and there, on his chest. jagged dark lines spilling out from the arc reactor ----- the old design arc reactor, before he updated it, long before the nanotech updates. the arc reactor that’s powered by fucking palladium. and his gaze tracks upwards, to his own face----- more than ten years younger than it was five minutes ago. the silver threads gone from his hair, fewer lines in his face. he’s pale, unhealthily so, but hey, he’s currently dying. if this is real. which it can’t be.
“JARVIS. did anything---- WEIRD happen while i was sleeping?” he demands. this isn’t---- this can’t be happening. this isn’t how time travel WORKS.
“no sir,” his AI responds with obvious confusion.
“fuck.” well either this is real, or it isn’t, and he doesn’t have a way of figuring out which right now. he’ll work on it. but if it IS real, he needs to… do something. fuck. act normal. if he’s somehow inhabiting the body of his younger self, he can’t exactly steal some pym particles and travel back to the future without destroying this timeline. so he’s gonna have to play along.
or maybe not JUST play along. maybe he can change things. if the normal rules of time travel ( which he only made up, like, two days ago ) don’t apply, then he can change things. he can stop thanos before thanos even gets a CHANCE to… to….
grief comes roaring back in a tidal wave. ( grief he’s been bottling up, ignoring, because they need to finish it, build the gauntlet and bring everyone BACK. that was what she died for and that had been the only thing keeping him going. ) tony chokes, flinging up a hand to cover his eyes. natasha. he can save natasha. she doesn’t have to die.
she’s going to be here in less than two hours.
( NO. she’s not. well, she is, but not her. not HIS natasha. a younger version who hasn’t even met him yet. HIS natasha is dead. )
tony scrubs tears away from his eyes angrily. gets to his feet. “JARVIS,” he says, voice hoarse, “we got a lot of work to do, buddy.”
the next two hours are a blur. nausea rears its ugly head when he tries to eat, and oh yeah, tony remembers this. he chokes down a green chlorophyll drink instead, heads down to his workshop to start plans for the new element and arc reactor. if he doesn’t have to blow up half his house, alienate rhodey and pepper and annoy fury into giving him his dad’s shit, he’s not going to. and he wants this palladium out of him as soon as possible.
he heads upstairs when happy arrives, tries not to stare too hard at the decade younger version of his friend. that’s---- he’s never going to get used to that. he’s distracted, but then, he thinks he was then, too. at least his friends are used to him acting fucking weird. all he has to do now is hide that he’s been training with the black widow and captain america for over a decade.
pepper turns up and tony barely lets himself glance at her, quipping back on autopilot. and then happy stops fighting, and tony turns to see, he knows who he’s looking at, but still he turns, and his heart skips a beat. he probably stops breathing.
nat. it’s a physical effort to swallow back the words on the tip of his tongue. to stop himself from vaulting the ring and pulling her into his arms. she only looks at him for a moment before turning her attention to pepper but tony’s STUCK, gaze trailing after her.
this is real, isn’t it? fuck, this is REAL.
happy thunks him on the head. tony spins, scowls at the all knowing look on the man’s face. for a second he tries to get his head back into the boxing game. it’s a lost cause. he ducks under happy’s fist, holds his hands up and starts unwrapping his gloves.
what did he say last time? he can’t remember. he remembers the way she’d climbed into the ring. he remembers the way she’d looked right through him.
tony takes a deep breath, leans on the rope, fingers tapping restlessly. “hey, scusi! what’s your name? are you new in the legal department? i haven’t seen you around before.”
