Ryan W. Briggs, Max Marin, and Ellie Rushing at Philadelphia Inquirer:
BETHEL PARK, Pa. ā In the sea of caps and gowns, Thomas Matthew Crooks hardly stood out. Few people clapped when his name was called. A YouTube video of his graduation two years ago from Bethel Park High School shows a slender and bespectacled student receiving his diploma with a soft smile. But the class of 2022 awoke Sunday to learn that the 20-year-old Allegheny County man was notorious, the shooter in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally that left an ex-firefighter, Corey Comperatore, dead and two other attendees wounded. U.S. Secret Service counter-snipers killed Crooks moments after he opened fire on the Saturday night rally from a nearby rooftop. The FBI said Sunday they believed he acted alone. He had not been on the bureauās radar.
Crooksā actions shocked residents in his hometown, sparked countless conspiracy theories online, and prompted investigators to begin combing through every aspect of his life, looking for motive. The mystery has been fueled by a near-total absence of Crooksā social media postings, political writings, or other digital fingerprints. Several former classmates appeared on national television Sunday, quickly casting Crooks as a stereotypical loner who was bullied heavily during his time at Bethel Park. One of them, Jason Kohler, told reporters Sunday that students tormented Crooks āalmost every dayā and that he often wore āhuntingā outfits to class. āHe was just an outcast,ā Kohler said, āand you know how kids are nowadays.ā Yet, two former students interviewed by The Inquirer disputed the characterization. They did not recall specific incidents of violence or other antagonism involving their now-infamous classmate in the community they described as generally tight-knit.
[...] The slight traces of public information Crooks left behind leave few clues about his political ideology. Federal campaign finance records show he made a $15 donation to progressive political action committee in 2021 after President Joe Bidenās election, but later registered as a Republican, according to Pennsylvania voter data. His father was a registered Libertarian, his mother a Democrat. Crooksā body was found on the rooftop of an agricultural tool manufacturing plant a few hundred feet from the rally with an AR-style semiautomatic rifle ā legally purchased by his father. The shooter was wearing a T-shirt promoting āThe Demolition Ranch,ā a YouTube channel for gun enthusiasts. If Crooks maintained any personal social media presence, it went largely undetected on Sunday. Discord, an instant messaging platform mainly used by video gamers, released a statement acknowledging Crooks held a ārarely utilizedā account that contained no information relevant to the shooting.
Sigafoos did not recall Crooks making political overtures in class, but rather as someone interested in how government works, and ānot trying to insert his own beliefs into it.ā Another former classmate did not share this view. Max R. Smith recalled taking an American history course with Crooks as a sophomore. He did recall Crooks making political statements ā but they shed no light on his actions Saturday. āHe definitely was conservative,ā he said. āIt makes me wonder why he would carry out an assassination attempt on the conservative candidate.ā Smith recalled a mock debate in which their history professor posed government policy questions and asked students to stand on one side of the classroom or the other to signal their support or opposition for a given proposal. āThe majority of the class were on the liberal side, but Tom, no matter what, always stood his ground on the conservative side,ā Smith said. āThatās still the picture I have of him. Just standing alone on one side while the rest of the class was on the other.ā
The gunman who killed rallygoer Corey Comperatore and attempted the assassination of Donald Trump at Saturday nightās Butler, PA rally was not only a registered Republican but also a vehement conservative.
This should hopefully put an end to the right-wingās nonsensical claim that a āviolent leftistā/āAntifaā tried to kill Trump.

My realistic goals for 2025
Because I refuse to spend another year doing nothing because I set goals that couldnāt be achieved in only a year.
1. Start attending Sunday mass ā I havenāt attended church since I was a baby because my family stopped and now that Iām not in school anymore I donāt even have holiday masses (I went to a Catholic high school).
2. Join the young adult group at my church once I turn 19 ā They donāt have anything for ages 15-18 for some reason but I think it would help me make friends offline. It would also definitely get me out of bed and out of the house more often.
3. Finish my volunteer hours and officially graduate high school ā I never officially got my diploma because in Ontario youāre required to do 40 hours of community service in order to graduate. I did these hours but the organization I did them with never sent me confirmation like they said they would.
4. Start taking an online German course ā This one feels pretty self explanatory.
5. Start writing a book ā My dream is to be an author so I want to start working towards that sooner rather than later.
6. Get back over 100lbs ā Iām finally taking recovery seriously for once and going back over 100lbs has been a huge fear of mine for a long time. So, I want to at least get back to 100lbs. I know I canāt fully recover in a year but thatās one thing that would be a huge step towards it for me.
7. Start exercising daily even if itās something small like a short workout video ā Since my ED taking away basically all of my energy and strength Iāve become weaker than I was as a child. I get tired going up and down the 5 stairs in my house. Most days are spent just laying in my bed the entire day because I get tired super easily doing anything else. I really need to work on that.
8. Find a way to make money from home ā My health doesnāt exactly allow me to have a job that requires too much physical effort at the moment, hence #7 but I need money so Iām probably going to start an Etsy shop or find some other way to make money from home.
9. Spend more time on things that genuinely make me happy/feel good ā Talk to people I actually enjoyās company more often, start journaling again, take the time to make sure I look and therefore feel my best before going out, keep a consistent skincare routine, give dedicated time to my hobbies.
10. Post on social media more, scroll social media less ā Posting about my life and progress online has always been really good motivation for me. Knowing other people will see what Iām doing motivates me to do better at it or stick to it. Scrolling social media, however, leads to a lot of negative feelings. So, I want to try and limit the time I scroll while also posting more.

Along with TMWL rehearsal, the momentum practice, SMtown practice, studying Korean history, preparing for 2nd album, and a bunch of filming for variety show contents. His time management skill is insane
Link
I would like to know as well. I fear, he has a Time-turner in his possession.
Great news, though. And I'm not even surprised, heh. Who if not Doyoung?.. I knew Doyoung would eventually secretly finish school (he can't go to a Uni without a high school diploma), but never imagined a special major like musical theatre.
So, Do and Woo both attended and participated in the graduation performance, their classmates are posting pictures now.
First of all, what this OP said.
One of the reasons people dream of being famous or becoming this or that and never achieving it is that they don't really want that. Their brain is happy just sitting on a sofa with beer in hand and a tv in front. A burrow to hide, a blanket to keep warm, food in the stomack, entertainment - what else to want? All basic needs are covered. Even sex is substituted with wifus/husbandos for most.
Those people who desperately want something have the will to do it by all means. Even if it means practicing choreos till 5 a.m. and going to school afterwards (Jae's case) or learning 2 new languages (Ten's case). Read about explorers of the past deciding to go and freeze to death in pursue of the dream to be the first in human history to reach the North or the South pole.
Doyoung is also an exeption to the rule. He is a workaholic and needs to do as much as possible, he is hungry for more achievements. He has both mental energy for that and will to push himself. Maybe sometimes to unhealthy lengths, but so far he seems to balance it well and shows improvement on the mental front actually. He also has great memory, which allows him to quickly learn (in shorter time and on the go, with less concentration) and memorise lots of faces (social connections). Do evidently also is very good at shifting his focus, doing lots of tasks in parallel (the way we saw him thinking over his solo album direction during commute). Others would be overwhelmed, it requires a trained brain.
Doyoung is assisted with the time management a lot by the agency. He doesn't need to cook, to plan the route, to order tickets and work on visas, to submit documents, to wait at the bus stops, even to choose clothes. He goes from place to place in the most convenient manner, in a personal van or first class flights. All of this both saves him time (he can learn Japanese words or a musical script in the van, for example, he is not the one driving) and mental energy (he is not making mini-choices, everyday decisions (the act of choosing eats up mental energy a lot), as well as he is not fighting "I don't want to" as much).
Doyoung also gets rewarded on a regular basis. He is given his energy back, he gets confirmation that he is moving in the right direction, that the effort is worth it, the goal is within his reach.
Lastly. Doyoung smartly unites a lot of things. For example, this musical theatre programme thing. Surely, him doing Marie gave him points on multiple subjects without attending any lectures or practices in the school. Maybe the public history exam he took way back also was counted. He will get a diploma that will both work for him as a mucial actor and for any future Uni he will go into.
He wanted to strengthen his friendship with Johnathan. He is doing it while shooting programmes (MukChu and I live alone). He went to Japan for a tv-programme, visited Disney land to unwind a bit, and did a vlog at the same time.
Still, as I said already, he is an exeption. Very few people are capable of pushing themselves this much and being able to shift from one task to a very different one (school->BA duties->musical->concert practice->history channel->meeting withJeno->2nd album) so productively.
That's why we stan!

Teachers at Palestinian schools run by the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees celebrated Hamasā Oct. 7 massacre against Israel and are part of a ānational strategy to commit acts of terror,ā the head of a watchdog group toldĀ The AlgemeinerĀ following the release of the groupās new bombshell report on the matter.
At least 14 teachers at schools run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) publicly celebrated the Hamas atrocities on their social media accounts, with one calling the morning of Oct. 7 an āunforgettable glorious morning,ā a report released on Monday by the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education (IMPACT-se) found.
TheĀ report also identifiedĀ at least 100 Hamas terrorists who are graduates of UNRWAās educating system. It highlighted Amer Yaser Nazmi Sada, whose diploma was found in the vehicle of one of the terrorists who participated in the Oct. 7 slaughter of Israeli families. The diploma, granted to Sada in 2018 upon his graduation, was signed by the chief of UNRWAās vocational program in Gaza, Farid Ajmiāan Abu Adhira.
One UNRWA employee in Gaza, Mahmoud Abu Adhm, uploaded several posts supporting the massacre by Hamas, the report showed. In one, posted three days after the attack, Abu Adhm urged the Palestinian terrorist group to kill Israeli hostages, citing Islamic texts: āDo not walk past a captive who has not been given amnesty without striking off his neck so as to terrorize the enemy.ā
IMPACT-se CEO Marcus Sheff toldĀ The Algemeiner: āWhen you teach young people to cut the neck of the enemy, do not be surprised when you see acts like that.ā
āWhen you teach young people that Jews should be exterminated, do not be surprised when that is what they attempt to do,ā he added.

What a year, huh?
Since some of you may be wondering about my absence, I thought that a short update post like this would be in place.
I'll start by establishing what's new: I can proudly say now that after five long years I've graduated art school, thus reaching one of the biggest milestones in my life so far. As you can guess, senior year was somewhat rough in the aspect of all of the grades I had to keep up and exams I had to take, but also my art diploma I spent a whole year in the making.
And so, the reason of my dead social media begins to surface: with so many things to take care of, I simply lacked the time or energy to post any updates (...Not to mention that the diploma I was making consumed almost all of my free time and I made like maximum three digital paintings in the span of past year...).
Despite it all, I never lost interest in the fandom I'm still in. I've been here for every CRK update, occasionally doodling some characters when I found the time and hyping myself up. Some drawings piled up, and in due time I'll post the most valuable ones of it all š
My art style has quite evolved since then, and soon you'll be able to see the fruits of all this timespan. Since summertime is coming and I can finally relax in a way, I'll make sure to post updates frequently. I've also made a promise to myself to be somewhat more active on platforms such as Tumblr or Twitter, 'cause the last time I was online I didn't quite catch the essence of these platforms... Oops
So, you can @ me all your heart desires, message me or flood me with your ideas. It may be a big AMA to be honest... And I want to spend more time interacting with my followers here š
I've got some plans in mind regarding my social profiles, but I'll keep it all simple for now. With college prep ahead of me I've still got a variety of things to work on, but hey. Whose life isn't packed with big changes, especially if more than a year had passed?
If you've read up to this point, thanks for listening to my blabbering!! I know I've got a small bunch of followers right now, but sharing my artwork with even a handful of people that have the same interests as me really motivates me. Have a good day now :))

Glow up - The shape reveals the function
You arrived here and already understood something very simple: happiness is very different from pleasure. Here comes a very important point, if you ask a person what they want in life they will say different things. Maybe talk about a specific profession, an achievement, a specific amount of money, children and families, or a trip. In short, a multitude of objectives. But behind all these goals there is a common element: people believe that through these goals they will become happy. Yes or no? think about yourself and your goals. Ultimately, each of these goals in a sense is a way for you to achieve what you believe to be happiness.
And that's exactly where the biggest confusion in most people's lives begins. Most people have been led to believe that happiness is there at the end of the journey. Come to think of it, almost everything points to this. Films have a romantic narrative that ends when the relationship begins, old stories are full of this; After the whole plot unfolds, a kiss happens. And then, they lived happily ever after. And then it seems like happiness was frozen there at that moment. Social media points to the same thing. People go and take pictures at graduation. Make up, beautiful with diplomas in hand. Or you only see photos of the wedding ceremony, or the baby born. But what you call happiness is actually just a happy moment. All this joy passes, and it passes quickly. So when you look at life believing that your happiness is conditioned on a moment of joy, an achievement or reaching a goal, you stop being happy on a daily basis.
The joy of graduation passes quickly, but it only happened after years of effort that will only be worth it if the person continues to strive for many years after graduation. The wedding ceremony also lasts only one night, but it only happens after a series of efforts and decisions that will only be worth it if the person continues to make efforts to make the marriage work after the ceremony. The baby's birth lasts a few hours, but it only happened after an act of love and donation followed by months of effort nurturing that life.
You can't live your life in search of happy moments, can you understand? Happiness is much more related to how you follow your path to your goals. I will use a negative example so you understand. Many people believe that they will only be happy when they have a certain amount of money. 1 million, 10 million and then I ask you, does reaching a million reais make someone happy? The answer is it depends. Do you know why? Imagine that to reach one million a woman scammed and robbed thousands of people, while another woman to reach that million helped thousands of people to have a healthier life. Which of the two do you think will be happy? You see, the million is exactly the same but the path is different. The first will have several moments of joy, she will post beautiful photos on social media, she will go on trips, she will do a lot of shopping, she will wear expensive clothes. But no matter how immoral you are, you will still live consumed by guilt. You will live feeling remorse and regret for making bad choices. And then you'll need more and more money to plug that emotional hole. the other will probably also experience several moments of joy, but she will not be deceived by these moments because she will live knowing that she walked the right path, did something good and received a fair reward. You will know that you have the ability to do even more for people and you will find happiness in the act of serving even more. Can you see that in a simple example we see two women who have happy lives and achieved their goals, but one of them has a completely screwed up life while the other has a truly happy life
Happiness is not at the end of the journey, it is on the way. It is found day after day when you walk in the right path. The path you were born to walk and do the things you should do on this journey. Can you understand this?
Now, the question you might be asking yourself. Julia, what is my purpose? How will I know what is right and wrong? How will I know what I was born to do? Well, I'm going to tell you something about my sister. Personally, when she was born, I didn't know if she was born with the right set of skills and attitudes to be a doctor, astronaut, ballet teacher, airplane mechanic or president of Brazil. I didn't know what her interests were and the type of knowledge and curiosity she would have in life that will tend to point to a kind of gift or professional future for her. When she was a baby, I knew very little about who she really is. But do you know what was the first thing and to this day one of the things I know about her? I know she was born a woman. More than that, I know that the first information I had about her is that she is a girl. And I already knew this before she was even born. This is the degree of relevance that this information has in your life. Before you had your own name defined, it was already known that you were a woman. You were born a woman in a woman's body. Do you know what your greatest purpose is? Be a good woman. Do you know what is right for your life? Be a good woman. Do you know what you were born to be? Be a good woman. This is your first and greatest gift.
And do you know what that means? That your happiness is not conditioned on the day you become the woman you once dreamed of being. Happiness is not conditioned on the day you have the family of your dreams, a full bank account and a wonderful job. All of this will bring an enormous amount of joy into your life, but real happiness will come when you become aware of your true and only purpose: to be a good woman wherever you are. And start taking action and striving every day to fulfill this purpose and honor this unique gift you received. A woman's happiness lies in fulfilling her duty every day, her role as a woman in the world.
And then do you know whatās missing for you to be truly happy? Something simple, but no one taught you. You need to know your role as a woman in the world. In other words, you need to understand what a good woman does. I could say this in a dozen or a hundred ways, but there is a more appropriate one that will make you understand your role in the world much better. I will provoke you to think the exact opposite. If I ask you, today, what a good man is, you will probably answer something similar to this: a good man is a hardworking, honest man who takes care of his family and leads everyone to the right path. Or if I ask you the type of man you most admire? I'm sure you'll answer something like āI admire men who work hard to provide for their families and help the poorest. I admire men who protect their wives, their children and weaker people. I admire a man who has a certain power, who takes on many responsibilities, leads the people around him, who has a firm attitude and acts fairly. If I ask you what you most hope to feel in a relationship you will probably say āI hope to feel safe and loved in all aspectsā.
Do you know why these are the things you most admire and expect from a man? It's simple, because that is man's role in the world. A man given a tough body and an alert mind to protect everything that is important. The man received an agile body and a shrewd mind to take the lead and lead his offspring. It's no wonder that the hormonal physical constitution of men and women is so different. A healthy man under normal conditions has up to 40x more testosterone than a woman. It is this hormone that prepares men to push, to act with focus and impulse, to stay alert, resist and become even stronger in the face of stress. While stress tires and weakens a woman, the same physical and mental stress empowers men to perform even more. Do you notice the difference? Do you realize that the form of man points to his function? Realize that by acting with your gifts, by fulfilling your purpose, man fulfills himself and becomes much better. Do you realize that it is exactly the fulfillment of his masculine purpose that makes you admire a man? See, man was prepared to interact with the outside world, to fight, to work hard and look for what his family needs. Everything about a man points exactly to this. He is prepared to face the challenges of the outside world and bring what he found best in the world back home to provide what his wife and children need to survive. And maybe you're thinking of cavemen here, but until recently, before contraception became more popular and reliable, every man knew that this was the life he was supposed to live. And apart from half a dozen ideologues, no woman complained about having a man leaving home and working hard to bring in most of the money needed to support the home.
This has been the case since creation. If you believe that the first man was Adam, then it was already there in Genesis 2. God created man, put him to work on the earth and guard everything that God had created. And then, he pointed out that he would move forward and make decisions that would echo in eternity. After the man understood this, God gave him a wife. The woman was given the delicate body and an intuitive mind to care for and nurture. The woman was given a kind heart and a wise mind to build. The woman received an aesthetic sensitivity to beautify everything. You see, a feminine woman is one who embodies the qualities of nurturing, edifying and beautifying.
She understands that her essence is not just in her external beauty, but mainly in the richness of her character and the strength of her heart. She understands that true nutrition goes beyond material needs. It involves nurturing with love, attention and care. Nourishment is the basis of everything and it is impossible to build something that is poorly nourished. Edifying is being able to lead towards virtue, it is about building a home and a family with solid values āāand a strong moral structure and making everything you touch much better with wisdom, love, hope and patience. Beautifying is much more than decorating the physical environment, it is creating an atmosphere that connects everyone to what is most essential. Therefore, there is no point in beautifying something that is rotten inside. An example of this dynamic is when a woman complains that the man doesn't provide, but she doesn't care about nurturing the relationship with love and care. The feminine woman understands that nurturing is the basis for a healthy and prosperous relationship and that this is part of her feminine purpose. Do you realize that by acting with your gifts and fulfilling your purpose, a woman fulfills herself and becomes much more who she was born to be? Do you realize that it is exactly the fulfillment of the feminine purpose that makes you admire a woman?

Life update - returning to college and how it feels as an older student
First off, for any new TAOL readers here, welcome! Thank you for your comments and for investing so much of your time in binging The Anatomy of Love. I just want to apologize again, to both older and newer readers, for my agonizingly slow comment moderation and my lack in replies. I'm not ignoring your comment out of maliciousness or anything like that - I just lack the time and mental energy but that is not to say I don't appreciate your support!
As many of you who've read my previous post and/or chapter ANs are aware of, I've returned to university to finish my 2nd degree. English/literature had always been a great passion of mine but not the most practical career path for me, so I had to quit it in my youth.
Years later, I'm finally pursuing my dream through the best english program my country has to offer and it is everything I could dream of. The academic quality is superb and every day I am working and studying myself to the bone, reading nearly a dozen books a week and typing papers until the words start swimming on the screen.
Among these joys lie the challenges as well. One being that I lean toward the older side of the demographics, which puts me in a minority as opposed to the many young and fresh-faced college students. I've made many friends and met many classmates who assume I am as young as them but their jaws drop when they realize my real age. There is certainly a discrepancy between us in terms of life experience and more, but it is also refreshing and often enlightening to hear perspectives and ideas from the young, creative minds of these trailblazers.
Being in different generations definitely feels weird at times, but what's truly strange - and even a little heartbreaking - is seeing all these young students strive so far and work so hard to the point that the competitiveness created becomes toxic and detrimental to their health.
I have a classmate who is taking 20 units worth of classes (when 12 is the average given how intense the workload is), has 3 part-time jobs, and commits 20 hours of volunteering a week. During an exam day, a window fell on him and broke his arm. Instead of going to the hospital, he insisted on taking his exam with a broken arm because he could not make time to accommodate for his wellbeing.
I met a freshman girl who suffered a mental breakdown when she got rejected from all the school clubs after dozens and dozens of interviews.
The reason behind all the intense competition is because many of these students are fresh out of high school where they've spent the past 4+ years committing to 10 extracurriculars and 20 Advance Placement classes and 1000 volunteer hours so that they can graduate at the top 1% of the class to (hopefully) attend such top universities. But it gets to the point where we're taught that instead of learning for the sake of learning, we're learning for the sake of getting that piece of paper aka the diploma.
And there are many professors who can recognize the difference between the former and the latter in a student of theirs. And there are many professors who will refuse to give even their A+ students a Letter of Rec because they feel that student is not genuinely passionate enough for whatever grad school or internship.
When I was 18 and crying over the stress of nursing school and feeling I was too dumb compared to everyone else, I wish I had someone to tell me to take a deep breath and RELAX.
So now I want to say it for any new or incoming college students that might be reading this: Relax.
Your career will not be over if you do not get into that club. Your social life is not dead just because nobody invited you to a frat party. You are not a loser if you don't have 10+ best friends. You getting a B or C on a paper does not mean your final grade can no longer be an A.
Yes, go to your professor's office hours but talk to them about things besides the coursework - let them get to know you as a person rather than as just a student. That's how they will really remember you among all the other students, and that's how they'll be able to write about you in their letter.
No, you're not dumber than everyone else. That's your imposter syndrome talking. I promise you that whatever idea, question, or concern you have about the course material, there is 100% another student in your class who shares the exact same thing. If you're struggling, 100% there are other students in your class who are struggling as much as you. Don't compare yourself to your peers because we're all battling our own problems and insecurities but we're just hiding it. Focus on yourself.
Be nice to everyone you meet no matter what because you never know what networking opportunities will arise in the near or far future out of that one interaction. Within 1 month of school, I was already offered an internship at a prestigious publishing house just because I let a girl in class borrow my book and we ended up becoming close friends. That network chain was conceived all because I was just nice enough to share my book with her in class.
Most importantly, be nice to yourself! You are smarter than you think you are. And just because you didn't achieve your goal, that doesn't necessarily mean it's your fault or you're a failure. Sometimes to get to your destination you need to take a different path compared to the path you see everyone else taking. And sometimes it's just not meant to be... yet.
Anyway, I'm extremely lucky and privileged to be able to say I am enjoying my 2nd round of university (especially after much pain and suffering in the first round). Which is a major reason why my updates for TAOL have been erratic and my comment moderation slow, but I will continue to do my best in updating whenever I can!
(And if there's even the slimmest chance one of you readers here might be attending the same uni as me, let's vote Chris Pine as our speaker! We must get the arts some representation and love)
Thank you for reading and I will see you soon in the next update š

Family: Michael Becker (dad), Cassidy Becker (mom - deceased), Lucas Becker (younger brother), Annie Becker (younger sister)
Time in Aurora Bay: Three Years
Face Claim: Asa Germann
tw heart attack mention, tw death
ā HISTORY
Born to Michael and Cassidy Becker, preceding his younger brother Luke and younger sister Annie, Robbie was born in Port Hope, Canada. Both of his parents were professors in local colleges after they had each individually worked at University of Toronto and York University. They had since settled down to create a life together which led to the move to Port Hope.
He was not planned out. Michael was in his fifties, while Cassidy in her late forties. His mom was overjoyed as she always wanted a child, and this just spurred on the desire for them to build a larger family.
Unfortunately, for everyone, Cassidy only survived a few years after her daughter was born (Robbie was ten). A heart attack that no one was expecting took her far too early, after that day the family never recovered.
Michael became more reclusive, keeping the kids out of his study, and they learned to fend for themselves very early on. It wasn't terrible neglect. They did just fine. Money was never an issue for the Becker family as Michael's family had generational wealth built up over nearly two centuries. There was a roof over their heads, food in the fridge and clothing on their back. Robbie took over to make sure his younger siblings would make it to school and keep their grades up.
It was about when he was fifteen, his father started to come out of his depressive funk. It was a gradual adjustment with Michael trying to fit himself back into their lives, but it wasn't a great challenge. After all, the kids weren't the ones that shut him out. It'd been the other way around. The hardest part was Annie because she barely had a relationship with him when tragedy struck.
That spurred on an unintentional rift between Robbie and Michael as he focused on trying to build something with his daughter. He asked more and more of Annieās time while Robbie and Lucas found companionship in one another.
Not as studious as his brother, Robbie found more joy in after school activities that didn't involve a ball or excessive athleticism. One of his favorites was debate club, and the next was environmental club. He, along with a few students on the class council and others just as passionate, became the group in their school to begin running drives for various community issues.
This exposure to social and environmental issues in his more formative years sparked a desire for being involved to the most of his ability. It also developed his very anti-capitalistic approach to life, and in turn, a deep passion for advocating and supporting projects meant to better the world.
(It has also, in some ways, made him a bit insufferable to be around at points, but he's also unapologetic about stepping on toes.)
Because of this, the intended gap year break post high school graduation turned into three years. It wasn't until he was twenty-one he decided to pursue a college education. There also might have been a push from his father, who only seemed invested in Robbie's choices because he was still living on his dime. It was 'go to college or get a job and move out', so college it was.
He chose Aurora Bay because of the small town feel, and college there is cheaper than the well known Berkeley. With no stellar grades or scholarships, the lighter tuition to shoulder was the course of action. He is still living on campus, but has been scoping out Ocean Crest to move into when he graduates, assuming he doesn't apply for his Masters.
TRAITS
positive: sensible, passionate
neutral: modest, purposeful
negative: uptight, self-critical
HEADCANONS
ā¹ very eco-conscious. annoyingly so. rides his bike everywhere, might side-eye you for using a plastic straw, or for not second-hand shopping. donāt ask him about how he runs his AC at a breezy 62 degrees, though. he can get a little defensive about it.
ā¹ speaking of, nearly everything he owns heās gotten as a hand-me-down or thrifted. he also runs and moderates a ābuy nothingā facebook group.
ā¹ heās only in the US with his approved I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for while he studies. as for after graduation? heās not sure about whether he wants to stay or not, so there is little thought put into his long term goals.
ā¹ he used to do cottage rental cleaning in Port Hope, so applying for the maid service at Seascape was a no brainer. he also likes to use it as an opportunity to pocket anything that heās certain the guests arenāt coming back for. jewelry and cash get turned in with first dibs after the claim window ends (finders keepers), but sealed food and beverages make their way into his bag.
ā¹ everything has a plan. everything has a place. scheduled times are to be met, and if youāre late, instant ick. he also has an obsession with organizing his pantry with labeled glass containers.
ā¹ mediocre at skeet shooting, pretty good at ax throwing, terrible at any contact sports.
ā¹ he started college at age twenty-one after taking a few years off post-graduation. what did he do those years? bounce around to attend various environmental and conservation protests and immerse himself in activist life. He has also attended protests for various social issues, that of which he is very vocal about. he has long since calmed down while in california to keep his nose clean.
ā¹ loves anything lemon flavored. give him all of your yellow starburst! but be warned, if you sneak a banana flavored candy in there he will probably hate you.
ā¹ there is a seagull heās named nugget that he feeds from his apartment balcony. he utilizes the companionship to get it to baptize the cars of tenants he doesnāt like. you know, symbiotic relationships and all.
ā¹ does not say āehā.
CONNECTIONS
Brand new muse, as I join Club 14. Heās not a native, but heās not a stranger to some United States territory. Long-term childhood best friends are unlikely, however, there is a possibility of maybe a friend met on a family vacation? Before cell phones were big, so really young and they started as pen pals. Family vacations staggered off after age ten.
Iām not sure if anyone would want to room with him, could be past roommates too? He moved into Ocean Crest at the start of his previous college year, ex-resident of Aurora Bay Towers.Ā
Current romantic connections will be explored on the dash, but past anything I am open to discussing. I will not lock him into an end game as he is brand new, but college is a potentially chaotic and messy time when exploring that part of yourself, so have at it.
ā” @theameliaxevans - college peer and party friend. yes, wes, look away. no trouble to be seen here!
ā” @carter-harris - tba.
ā” @edenxoconnell - ex-boyfriend of, has a bit a bad blood against due to the manner of which their break-up occurred. but also didn't turn down an opportunity to hook-up at a college mixer.
ā” @jaspermorgan - boss at seascape, also someone robbie likes to pester
ā” @laceyxpierce - academic peers and friends. more tba.
ā” @solaadisa - double trouble in SoCal's activist scene. also, cheers to having a pseudo-older sister!

Any of y'all remember back in January when I said that 2023 was going to be one of the most challenging years of my life?
About 90% of the things I mentioned having to get through in that post is happening right smack dab in the middle of June.
So in this one month I'll be graduating highschool (and all the ceremonies that come with it), getting through my last diploma exams, (hopefully) starting driving lessons, preparing to apply for university and landing my first job before I turn 18 this coming July. So that's fun (lying)
That isn't even mentioning that I'm not exactly running at peak performance. I'm currently at a moderate level of functioning (better than how I was in January but not great either) and with that I need to be very careful with where I choose to spend my limited energy. And such a monumental shift in my routine is going to be demanding.
So as much as the other part of myself will fight it, I'll be stepping off for most of June, maybe even a little bit into July if I need to (so happy pride month, I'll try to make something cool next year).
Which means, apart from the work I have almost finished or ready (all IVIS content), art will be pretty scarce-- if there's any at all. I haven't been really able to create much, anyway, so it seems my body is demanding a break from art regardless.
That's also to say that I have next to no social spoons apart from the bare minimum necessary interactions, so to all my friends who are reading this-- this is me saying that I won't really be present. I really want to be there for y'all, but it doesn't look like I can atm.
Hopefully this announcement will fend off some of my FOMO alongside my ADHD, so I can actually make myself properly rest instead of doing things that'll only deplete the little energy I have (which includes my online presence).
So uh.
See y'all on the flipside, yea?
#semi hiatus#drye rambles#announcement#The few art posts that I will make I'm practically almost finished atm#but asides from that#nothing#I'm going to have to force myself to rest wont I#that's probably what's going to end up happening#workaholism my beloved#i love the immense guilt I feel whenever I'm not being wholly productive#if you see me being active on here in the coming weeks that's me breaking my own rule#avoiding burnout: the mission of the decade#lets see how this goes

In Memory Of Us: Prologue
A headmate who doesnāt write much wrote us out a prologue, and weāre pretty proud of him for it. In any case, this is the opening for In Memory Of Us, a story that follows three young adults navigating their strange town as people disappear from everyoneās memories except theirs.Ā Tag List: @writeouswriter (youāre the only one but thank you so much for your interest)
The ultimate social paralysis of off-the-map towns creates an atmosphere of familiarity and safety for the ages-old residents, those whose families witnessed the first dirt roads that carved through the once much denser forest. The streets, lamp-less and haunted in the night, have been memorized and seldom see confused tourists. These homes are riddled with old wood and cryptic small-town stories. The roads themselves are paved with the hard work of their native people. Places like this, they resist change. All here must adhere to the same pattern of life that has played out in these homes for generations before them.Ā
Anboro isnāt a town of grandeur or very substantial by itself. Sure, it held everything its citizens needed - a grocery store, a college, a hospital, a schoolĀ - but life was monotonous. School went on with the same cliches as it had since its first classes were held. Work continued its patterns and habits.
But something changed.Ā
At the dawn of June, the beginning of the summer of 2018, Anboroās small high school celebrated the graduation of its latest seniors. Just shy of 80 kids practically shook in the old folding chairs that had been laid out in the grass of their football field. Valerie Aarons was the first to mount the stage and accept her diploma. Maybe it was her placement at the head of her classmates or perhaps she was predestined to sneer at those who broke the schoolās customs, but a few of her graduating peers rolled their eyes at the vain look on her face as she waved for pictures.
Families in the surrounding crowd shed their proud tears and eagerly held their children when they were freed from their seats. Holding up their diplomas for pictures, most graduates chattered about their post-high school plans. Anboro University, the townās college, and Saints Community College were the destinations of each previous student. Some aspired to take medical courses, some engineering, and some teaching. As it has for decades, the town held onto its residents and nourished them with all it had.Ā
For some, however, there wasnāt quite enough.

Who am I, really?
I am JosĆ© AndrĆ©s Guadalupe Medina, born (1981) and raised Chicano (American born, with both Spanish and Native blood) from Las Cruces, New Mexico. I am an Artist who is a PoC on the autism spectrum, dual-spirit, and queer. My tumblr handle draws much significance from my identity: like Mizar and Alcor - a dual star that shines in the sky as one - I am two-spirit. My soul is both masculine and feminine.Ā Ā
Growing up I was not expected to be any of these things. We were poor and uneducated, and still are. I was expected to be a military hero like all the āMenā in my very strict and tradition-upholding family.Ā I was expected to follow in the footsteps of my father, and his father, and his father, and his father (you get the point) in the career as a soldier - as a Masonic military hero, complete with classified documents and all. Or maybe, I would at least be a scientist as my grandmother (Mexican-born American) had nicknamed me, since I was one of the first of my family to graduate high school. Or better yet Iād be a preacher, like my father was post-military. I, however, had other plans for myself.Ā
Since I was 5 years old, I have dreamt of being an artist. My dreams however were impractical; were I to choose to be a doctor, a preacher, or better yet, a soldier, now that would be practical. So, the first social lie I began telling people was that I wanted to be an architect, because everyone accepted that answer, didnāt make a face when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, and because it was close enough to the truth. Despite all this, doing art kept me occupied in the house where I lived with my grandmother, multiple siblings, and our various cousins. It also kept me from being locked outside playing. It was the 80ās, after all. So, I kept doing art.
Growing up, I listened to everyone: I tried to get a ārealā job and work my 9-5 and I went to college (which I failed twice), but I overall struggled to keep myself employed. I was always considered a troubled kid and as an adult, no one really expected anything of a high school dropout. People were just happy that I went back to school to get my diploma. It wasnāt until I was an adult and had lived a whole 30 years before I finally was diagnosed with Autism.Ā
I had lived most of my life until then living in and out of mental institutions and group homes. Doctors were diagnosing me with every behavioral disorder a person can have until I had neurological testing. Most people treat my hidden disability like I am making excuses, so it was like trading in one set of problems for others. Now, I finally have answers to all the questions doctors, parents, and myself had for my whole life.Ā
Enter: another Global Pandemic. I lost enough to the AIDS crisis, and now we had COVID and social quarantine.
The biggest thing about surviving a pandemic (as those of us who survived COVID all know) is that some of us fare better than others, that some of us survive while others donāt. In the AIDS crisis, we lost friends, family and pillars of our oppressed community. LGBTQIA+ comes from all of us standing together to be heard, that we are people that deserve proper health care and community services. We had to come together as Queers and scream all as one that we need and that we deserve healthcare and community service and that we are human fucking beings. We needed to come together as one to be heard and treated as one.Ā
I feel that we have this thing where we forget how recently the AIDS crisis happened. COVID was more isolation and mental torment for me, as someone who survived the AIDS crisis - seeing a similar separation not between cis-straights and queers, but between the masses and the 1%. We needed to come together as one together just as we did then to be heard. Unfortunately, we could not.Ā
I was just finally starting to live my dreams and live the life of an artist before COVID,Ā and most importantly, I was making so much art! Being home living with strangers who took advantage of me and our situation, I felt a real need to express myself but instead found myself unable to create art. I turned to music and poetry, I learned to read music and to play the ukulele, and I turned to the Haiku to learn to express myself through different outlets.
The biggest challenge that I face as an Artist is creating a safe space for me to be creative. Sometimes that means managing my own personal disorders as well as finding a safe space to be creative. I create that space by writing, singing, dancing, and most importantly, laughing. It can take me a couple hours to get into the right creative space to create drawings and paintings. I have to get in the right headspace in order to create, like an athlete warming up before a game or practicing in the off season. My brain is a muscle and needs to do its stretches first.
I practice a meditative form of creating art, one where I take clear mental images or visions as I call them and try to make them real. Sometimes when I create, I have visions as I work and I listen when the art speaks to tell me what it wants to be, and then I try to use whatever I have to make it happen. I do not always know myself what is going to happen or what it will look like when it is done. Sometimes I have clear images of what the art should be when it is finished and I put all my being into recreating the mental image. When I work on commissions I like to become a human 3D printer - recreate whatever the client has in their mind.Ā
In the future, I hope that my art is not only therapeutic for everyone and can become whatever the viewer needs most, but most importantly a gift that we can all share now and for future generations.
My art is not a superpower. However, I feel it in my ancestral blood that I need to replace the art that has been destroyed through colonialism back to the world, and to uplift those on a similar path. I want to present my art to those who may resonate with it, and may find comfort in it, and I want to use this blog to uplift diverse artistry, to celebrate all forms of art, but putting first those who are disabled, queer, and people of color; I want to live and to help others like me live La Vie Boheme and to celebrate a diverse creative spirit.
I want to thank anybody who has visited, reblogged from, or even stuck a like on my posts. I hope we can build a beautiful community together.Ā
Living in the moment, at the moment,
Guadalupe (fka J.A.G.M)
