People who tend to rag on the Weasleys sometimes have this perception that they are unintelligent, small-minded people. They don’t say it like that but the language is similar enough. When it comes to Molly, there is a specific misunderstanding of her actions. She’s a stay-at-home mom raising 7 kids on a low-income budget. From what I know of British Culture, the idea of chasing your dreams isn’t pushed. She doesn’t want her kids to continue to grow up in poverty. It’s a reasonable exception that they do well in school, maybe even overachieve, and get good, stable, safe jobs( mind you she lost two brothers in the first war). R*wling perpetuates the idea that Molly is a ridiculous, overzealous, overbearing mother but she fails to articulate the class struggle that Molly is experiencing and how it changes perspective.

Similarly with Ron, the text does contradict the idea that he is some big dope. He’s shown as strategic, clever, and logical in ways Hermione isn’t. This is ignored in favor of a narrative of (various characters I will not name cuz their fans can be a little vicious and I just got back) is smarter. There is no canonical evidence that this is in fact true and the only reason I can assume, it’s perpetuated is because this character is wealthy. When we look at Ron actions compared to others, I think there is an assumption that every bad thing he does is out of insecurity. That’s not always the case because we see how aware he is of his families standing. He’s often enough reacting to his environment. While R*wling might want it to seem like Ron is irrational or petty for not believing in these institutions, he’s absolutely right to question them seeing first hand how they’ve hurt people he cares about.

I just think(while it’s not well constructed cuz it’s buried under pillars of liberalism) there is an evident enough layer of class-based oppression that flows along with the blood purity and i like to see more of that perspective in Weasley analyses.
