been thinking about voltron legendary defender a lot and how sad slash mad it makes me when people just blindly shit on it when like. the singular defining issue, imho, wasn't even a crappy fanbase, but in reality crappy running on the shows part, with constant out right and blatant lies and pandering from the show runners, speedrunning the series to maximize binge views and word of mouth, while butchering characters and plot-lines, and making both passive and active racist choices.

voltron could have been great, all the ingredients were there to be a good series like she-ra, but the show runners were trash and took vld down with them. they didnt just embrace the drama within the vld fanbase, they fucking emcouraged it with every choice and action they did. if any series desevers another shot, I'd say voltron is up at the top. it really did have potential, were it not for the runners. and to be all 'hoohoo haha votron fandom so stoopid' without acknowledging how the showrunners played on the drama makes me so fucking mad.

Roku: Awesome! Glad I could help-wait what do you mean "Sneak into the Fire Naiton?" Aang: Don't worry about it. It's your turn! Roku: Oh um, so like. Sozin and I were in the middle of a cave in, partially caused by me. I thought I was dead, and thought my role was to just be a placeholder Avatar. But Kyoshi gave me a pep talk that amounted to "It's not your fault. Quit bringing yourself down, and look within you to harness the power you need." And she was right. Kyoshi, trying to be positive but sounding dejected: Wow, I was right about one thing for once..... Roku: Ummm, what was your experience like Kyoshi? Kyoshi: ................... Kuruk: Haha c'mon, I wasn't that bad- Kyoshi: I can't really say the first time amounted to much, it was choppy. Subsequent attempts left me paralyzed with seizures. Kuruk: ....O_O Huh? Annual reminder that Aang wasn't a terrible dad, that one episode was badly written and had poor perspective. Aang was a busy, working dad who had a lot of stuff to do, and then suddenly his third kid was a full-on Airbender and he was literally the only one qualified to teach this baby, so then he finally had an excuse to put his family before his duties ("My family IS my duty now, suckers!!!"), and so Kya and Bumi were all "What the heck, Dad???" because they were now teens (iirc) and they missed out on all that stuff.

It was basically Aang going from "my family has 20% of my time" to "my family has 40% of my time". Still not enough, probably, but Aang could finally go and explore his own culture without feeling guilty about leaving the rest of the world to fend for itself.
