I ran into someone this morning who said he wasn’t voting in the midterms because he was “disgusted” with politics. I told him if he doesn’t vote he forfeits his right to complain... Voting isn’t just a right. It’s a privilege. Yet the largest party in America isn’t the Republicans or the Democrats; it’s the party of non-voters... The biggest problem for our democracy isn’t regressive Republicans or spendthrift Democrats; it’s apathetic citizens. --Robert Reich

No Picnic?
Is Picnic frontman Edmund Shklyarsky wielding a Ukrainian trident in this concert poster? PICNICOne on One The band Picnic’s new concert program is entitled “One on One.” Imagine a magic crystal with three facets. The first one is the eponymous new album. The second is video sequences and a laser show. And the third is the band’s musical calling cards: “The Egyptian,” “Kingdom of Curves,” “The…

Let us be brutally honest with ourselves and with eachother for a moment. If he weren't obese you motherfuckers would be capable of percieving evrart claires sexy sexy moral ambiguity and complex charms
#i am (lesbian) sipping him like a fine DESSERT WINE#my evidence by the way is very simple and very damning. joyce messier. there i said it.#if you guys can appreciate the fact that Joyce is a complex figure worthy of disgust yes but also worthy of empathy#despite being a venal coward facilitating acts of violence and slaughter of the organized working poor of martinaise in the name of capital#if you can understand that she is a dimensional figure while also being an embodiment of the moral apathy and cruelty if capital owners#but you cant look at evrart and see that he is (while deeply flawed and morally suspect) also a dimensional figure#on top of the fact that his motivations are eminently relatable and dare i say it baser#and his greatest failing imho is in failing to advocate for the interests of *all* the poor of martinaise#opting instead to marginalize the inhabitants of the fishing village in favor of a power grab in the interests of himself and his union#though this is imo a bit of a grey area morally. undeniably a wrong and bad thing to do but done in service of clairs political goals#to gather power to advocate for the working class against ultraliberal monoliths like wild pines and fascistic orgs like krenel#still super wrong but i can follow the moral arithmetic there tho i don't like it#but like my point is if u can see that joyce is evil and pathetic but still cool and sexy but you consider clair flatly distasteful#thats cus hes not conventionally attractive#cus he is *every bit* as dimensional and interesting as joyce and he is not nearly as politically shite even if hes interpersonally a jerk

Here's something I'm sure you find infuriating;
"I'm not into politics. I don't really know, I'm just not a political person."
We know that this IS being political! It means you condone everything - you don't think anything is worth fighting for, you're fine with the status quo as long as it benefits you vaguely. It's the mindset of someone so aggressively individualist, that the suffering of others is simply not a concern - since the system can't be broken, if they're alright. The kind of people to vote for a fascist if it'll mean that their taxes are lower next year. To stand by and watch oppression is insidious. Not even watch - to Celebrate oppression as long as it's against the "savages" and "beasts." Mass mistreatment still exists beyond the gulf surrounding apathetic suburbia.

to say people withholding their vote in America aren't 'pragmatic' enough is so dismissive. as a fellow European like idk what I would've done either if I was an American.
Otherwise I would be sorry to be dismissive but in this situation I think it is completely acceptable, if not necessary, to vote for the lesser evil. Voting is not about your inner true values, it is about society, and especially in the American setting where you essentially have only two options, you need to be able to make hard decisions. If you're seriously indicating that on the whole Harris is bad as Trump, you need to take a cold hard look at the reality of the matters at hand. Harris is not ideal, and it hurts to vote for her especially when you think about Gaza, but Trump is a fascist and his supporters in the Republican party are dangerous to democracy and human rights. This is not a situation where you get to opt out. Not voting is a vote for Trump.

We wanted the Democratic Party to EARN our vote — none of this “vote blue no matter who” BEFORE THE PRIMARY WAS OVER. Always use your leverage to negotiate. Walz acknowledges the uncommitted vote. We got two people who are genuinely good people that are energetic and amazing and the republicans have NOTHING ON THEM. Everyone from Ilhan Omar to joe manchin loves them. No compromising on labor rights, on gay rights, on women’s rights. Minor movement on ceasefire talk (not enough but not joe Biden). A politician who is not a career politician that everyone loves is on the ticket.
In November, you vote for the best thing in the ballot. But every day before that you need to demand your politicians do better. And we can get better when we ask for it. Look at how different things are today than 3 weeks ago!!

political thriller where padme and dooku are besties/toxic mentor-mentee/weird grandpa-adopted kid in a leo mcgarry + josh lyman style. padme accepts dooku’s offer in a sudden move because she’s sick of the chancellor and finds anakin fascinating but unnerving. dooku is all like “oh my evil plan is working” but they both slowly realize that they’re fucked once dooku and padme realize the scale of palpatine’s ambitions. dooku as a way for padme to express rebellion against the chancellor and the failing republic by sneaking secrets and helping the CIS. padme as a way for dooku to have a second chance and the hopefulness of the youth. leftist infighting. kotor influences and the understanding of the failures of the jedi in being tied so intimately w the senate. “we will watch your career with great interest.” is this anything???

Russia's Fascist Meltdown: The Cliff Notes Version
Screenshot of Mediazona infographic, as published here Russia is losing more and more men in its war against Ukraine. As of 5 July 2024, Mediazona and its partners in the casualty counting project have ascertained the names of more than 58,000 Russian soldiers killed in action. The real losses are twice as many, however. Journalists have calculated the actual number of war dead based on…

Ehh I guess I should make an intro post
Omnisexual and aspec + possibly arospec idek anymore
Genderfluid (Woman [at this point even that's subject to change], demiboy, stargender, nonbinary). Pronouns: he/her/star/they/it/any prns really but I jest listed some that I specifically like (Star/stars/starself is higher up here than it would be irl because it is so much easier to use neopronouns on the internet than in real life ☠️)
Minor
I post fandom stuff and sometimes book reviews and lots of shitposts
Instead of listing all the things I'll just say haters dni. We all know who that means
I don't really use any specialized tags for my posts but I will be using "Orchid's gender talks" whenever I decide to ponder my gender on Tumblr dot com again because I seem to do that a lot
This blog supports queer people! That DOES include, aces and aros and that DOES include the people that are queer and straight (trans and straight, ace and straight, etc) and that DOES include people who are attracted to multiple genders who are in a straight relationship
I also run @author-orchids and @fixing-breaking-fixing-bad-posts pretty sure both are self explanatory
I have other blogs but if you want to connect my gimmicks to my main you have to hunt me down
This blog stands with Palestine
This blog stands with Ukraine
And this blog does NOT support trump
This blog supports The Claims Adjuster (ALLEGEDLY, allegedly Luigi is a hero)
Deny, Defend, Despose.
"War does not determine who is right, only who is left" -(if anyone can tell me who first said that quote, I'd really appreciate it, Google isn't being helpful rn)
It's the roaring 20's again, but instead of some roar of progress, it's the roar of some great beast.

I've seen some mixed takes on this so it would be interesting to see the actual stats.
Non-Brits, how do you think the British monarchy works politically?
If you're British and know the answer please just pick Option 6.
(Also please reblog this because there's no way to tag this so that it breaks containment)
Option 1: The monarchy is an absolute dictatorship only beholden unto itself. Parliament drafts legislation on their behalf and can be consulted for advice on policy, but all power ultimately lies with the King.
Option 2: The monarchy is a branch of government with equivalent administrative power to Parliament, like the US President is to Congress. The King can and does veto legislation from Parliament they don't like, and directs policy initiatives with Parliament's backing.
Option 3: The monarchy is a subordinate branch of government like the British Supreme Court, acting in an advisory capacity to Parliament. The King is a recognised, active organ of state, but he isn't empowered to pass or approve legislation. The monarchy observes and intervenes where they deem necessary, but Parliament gets the final say.
Option 4: The monarchy, though officially a branch of government, serves no active administrative purpose. The King is a cultural ambassador and respiring rubber stamp that can request special exemptions from Parliamentary policy but cannot contravene, criticise or condone anything Parliament attempts to pass.
Option 5: The monarchy has no affiliation with the state anymore whatsover. The Windsors are just a random rich family we keep around for the tourists' benefit.
