Poirot Season 6 Episode 2 is about (as per usual for poirot) a murder investigation, but for a lot of the episode time the actual camera is focused on a rat that's always around the house (and is sometimes from a rat's perspective)

girlwarlock disclaimer: my attachment to characters is fluid, and recently-encountered characters always skew my opinions of "all-time favorite characters" [that is, i always have a category five autism event when i encounter media that i like with new characters and my "favorite characters" are always evaluated in the aftershocks of these]. So! I'll take specific effort to not just have five different Slay the Princess characters here 😅

deciding between The Opportunist and The Cheated from Slay the Princess was really hard, but ultimately it came down to this animation done by tumblr user tawnysoup:

Lae'zel is my beautiful alien frog wife and i love her so much. She's so prickly at first but if you engage with her and push past the spines she's so tender and romantic and aaahhhhhh

Sunshine (the novel) might have been the first book i ever got Obsessed with, and Sunshine (the character) is a huge part of why. I definitely Did Not examine at the time why i identified so much with a female character when i didn't identify to the same extent with male characters in similar books i read.

"The name of one shall be Fearfulness, the name of the other, Arrogance" -- it's easy, on first viewing, to think of Strange as Arrogance; that's certainly how Norrell views him, and the impression is helped along by how he gains a reputation as a dashing war hero, compared to Norrell's more retiring disposition. But when you pay closer attention you see more and more how Strange's every action is driven by fearfulness. Anyway. I love him.

He's my favorite fake detective. He's compassionate, he's well-written, he's fussy, he has weird priorities. i love him (but not the kbragh version of him; i don't think those movies do a good job with him at all. idk maybe they're perfectly accurate to the novels in the way suchet's poirot wasn't but suchet canonized poirot for me so as far as i'm concerned his poirot is real poirot

Rewatching the Mysterious Affair at Styles again because yes

And I love how Poirot recognises Hastings right away even though he apparently hasn’t seen him in years

And he immediately comes in to embrace him (and there’s Hastings’ hand on Poirot’s waist again @darthlenaplant !!)

And of all of these pictures of their embrace in this episode, I will never be over this one (Poirot’s hand on Hastings’ shoulder. Standing cheek to cheek with Hastings all too briefly):

Or the fact that they sit there holding and shaking each other’s hands and smiling at one another for a good solid like. 20 seconds after embracing

And moments like this are the closest Poirot can get to the object of his affections within the confines of societal heteronormativity in 1917
