Things We’ve Yelled About This Episode #11
Murder on the Orient Express, Agatha Christie
N or M?, Agatha Christie
This immortal line from Snakes on a Plane
Murder on the Orient Express, 2017 (trailer)
Kenneth Branagh (imdb)
ITV murder mystery adaptations
Miss Marple
Hercule Poirot
David Suchet (imdb)
Death on the Nile, Agatha Christie
The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Agatha Christie
Doctor Who, The Unicorn and the Wasp (clip)
Agatha Christie's life (wiki)
Poirot dragging the soon-to-be murder victim:
“ “What’s wrong with my proposition?”
Poirot rose.
“If you will forgive me for being personal – I do not like your face, M. Ratchett,” he said.
And with that he left the restaurant car.” - Murder on the Orient Express, Part I Chapter 3
Sherlock Holmes’ bitch energy (x)
M. Bouc’s no good very bad day:
“ “Tout de même, it is not necessary that he should be killed on the Orient Express. There are other places.”
Poirot smiled a little. He realized that M. Bouc was biased in the matter.” Murder on the Orient Express, Part I, Chapter 8
In which Agatha Christie accurately trashes the English:
“True to their nationality, the two English people were not chatty.” Murder on the Orient Express, Part I Chapter 1
The cheat code that allows the English to talk to strangers - M is referencing the radio sitcom Cabin Pressure, Season 2 Episode 6 “Limerick” (transcript)
No holds barred character descriptions:
“At a small table, sitting very upright, was one of the ugliest old ladies he had ever seen. It was an ugliness of distinction – it fascinated rather than repelled. She sat very upright. Round her neck was a colar of very large pearls which, improbable though it seemed, were real. Her hands were covered with rings. Her sable coat was pushed back on her shoulders. A very small expensive black toque was hideously unbecoming to the hellow, toad-like face beneath it.” Murder on the Orient Express, Part I Chapter 3, describing Princess Dragomiroff
And:
“One of them was a tall middle-aged woman in a plaid blouse and tweed skirt. She had a mass of faded yellow hair unbecomingly arranged in a large bun, wore glasses, and had a long, mild, amiable face rather like a sheep.” Murder on the Orient Express, Part I Chapter 3, describing Greta Ohlsson
Penelope Cruz (imdb) - her character is Spanish
Gaudy Night, Dorothy L Sayers - M mentions protagonists Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane
Gaudi (wiki)
"What an insult to the rich and chaotic variety of the human experience!" - M is quoting Sir Samuel Vimes, in Terry Pratchett's Feet of Clay. They do this...a lot.
Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle
Game of Thrones, G. R. R. Martin
The Reveal (no spoilers):
“Poirot looked at his friend.
“You are a director of the company, M. Bouc,” he said, “What do you say?”
M. Bouc cleared his throat.
“In my opinion, M. Poirot,” he said, “the first theory you put forward was the correct one – decidedly so. I suggest that that is the solution we offer to the Yugo-Slavian police when they arrive. You agree, Doctor?”
“Certainly I agree,” said Dr Constantine. “As regards the medical evidence, I think – er – that I made one or two fantastical suggestions.”
“Then,” said Poirot, “having placed my solution before you, I have the honour to retire from the case…”” Murder on the Orient Express, Part III Chapter 9
Jessica Chastain (imdb)
Daisy Ridley (imdb)
Going Postal, Terry Pratchett. M is thinking of this adaptation, and she's not doing it fondly.
Noodle Incidents (tv tropes)
ACAB (wiki)
Dora the Explorer (children's tv show) - TIL that Dora the Explorer isn't actually aimed at teaching kids Spanish, but it's used enough that they might pick bits up.
NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)

5 Shows and Some Questions
Rules: Pick 5 shows, then answer the following questions. Don’t cheat. Tag 10 (or however many) people.
I was tagged by @jessthebooklover on my main, but I’ll answer here instead. Thanks for thinking of me!
I also tried to mix up anime with other shows I like. It’s gonna get weird, kids.
1. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 2. M*A*S*H 3. Agatha Christie’s Poirot 4. Over the Garden Wall 5. Castlevania
Who is your favorite character in 2? Hawkeye Pierce. He’s the main character, a sarcastic wise-cracking army doctor with a massive drinking problem and a heart of pure gold. I’ve been in love with him since I was 6.
Who is your least favorite character in 1? Probably Father. He’s a really boring villain in my opinion. Average at best.
What is your favorite episode of 4? The Unknown. The final episode, yeah, but seeing everything come together was just *chef’s kiss*.
What is your favorite season of 5? Season 2! It got really weird in the second to last episode but I binged the entire thing in one night so that’s saying something.
Who is your favorite couple in 3? There isn’t one. But Hastings and Poirot are the brotp.
Who is your favorite couple in 2? Again, don’t really have one. BJ and Hawkeye are the brotp though.
What is your favorite episode of 1? I can’t remember the episode number, but the recap episode with Hohenheim. I haven’t rewatched fmab in awhile, but I will stream that episode on occasion. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know.
What is your favorite episode of 5? Last episode of season 2. It melted my brain.
What is your favorite season of 2? You can’t make me pick. I love all 11.
How long have you watched 1? First watched it in late 2016.
How did you become interested in 3? My bestie @hagane-no-heart rec’d it to me! We watch it together.
Who is your favorite actor in 4? Elijah Wood as Wirt. It’s PERFECT.
Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5? 1 and 2. Both have too much sentimental value in my heart to pick between them. MASH I watched with my grandparents who passed away when I was young, and fmab has such an amazing community of fans here where I’ve made some amazing friends. I declare no contest.
Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3 1. I’ve seen all of fmab and maybe 8 episodes of 3. (To be fair they’re literally movie length.)
If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be? I am basically Wirt irl so I guess?
Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? Not at all lmaoooo
Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple? Roy and Olivier. It’s the dramione of fmab.
Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5? 5 is less linear in its writing, but each episode usually has great storylines. 3 (Castlevania) has a WACK storyline, but the characters, religious references, and philosophy hold it together for me. I guess 3 then??
Which has better theme music, 2 or 4? Probably 4, but 2′s intro is freaking iconic.
Tagging: @hagane-no-heart, @criis55, @edxwin-elric, @kittykatz009, @bornadreamer if y’all interested!

Tagged by @wonders-of-the-multiverse to my main account @263adder but I’ve got this side blog for my Doctor Who stuff now so I’m putting it on here.
1. Favourite Doctor: Well my Doctor is always going to be Nine (Eccleston) because he was the first Doctor I was introduced to. But my favourite is probably Eleven. I was bummed that Eccleston didn’t join in on ‘The Day of the Doctor’ though, it would have been awesome to have him in the mix. His stint as the Doctor was too short in my opinion.
2. Favourite Master: Ooh. Obviously I love Dhawan!Master, wouldn’t have written a story about him otherwise, but Missy…eek, what a choice. Erm, eenie, meenie, miney, Missy. She has just the smallest, slightest, tiniest edge over Dhawan, but in fairness we had more episodes with Missy.
3. Favourite Sonic: Thirteen’s. I love that she made it herself instead of the TARDIS just producing one. And I’m always going to pretend the sonic sunglasses didn’t exist.
4. Favourite TARDIS Interior: I can honestly say I’ve never formed an opinion on the TARDIS interior before. Whatever goes really. Maybe Twelve’s because he had some comfy chairs in there? Really though, I’d be impressed going inside any TARDIS – I’m not gonna get fussed about the interior that much.
5. Favourite Companion/s: Yikes. Erm, I love the Eleven/Rory/Amy dynamic, so if I can have multiple it would be Amy/Rory. If I’m only allowed one person I’d go for Donna Noble, because she was hilarious and Ten needed a laugh.
6. Favourite Story: As in a favourite episode? You know every time I think I have a favourite episode I remember another one! My instinct was to say ‘Blink’, followed immediately by – no ‘Midnight’ was better (I loved their breakdown of mob mentality, I’m a sucker for a bottle episode, it’s based on a TNG episode and Russel T Davis really did write some excellent episodes). But then I kicked myself and said it had to be ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp’ because I LOVE Agatha Christie. Seriously, I own every single Poirot novel. Oh wait, ‘Love and Monsters’ – Peter Kay…I love Peter Kay. But, no – ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp’.
7. Favourite Soundtrack: The first season with Eleven. It had such a whimsy to it, it made me feel ready to run away and see the universe every time I watched an episode.
8. Dream Actor for the Next Doctor: You see, for me, I have never known any of the actors before they became the Doctor. And it’s perfect for me because I can only see them as the Doctor. So, the dream actor for me is just someone I’ve never heard of before!
9. Dream Story: I want more about the Doctor and the Master. I never really got into Twelve, but I loved his story lines with Missy – they had a rich, shared past and it gives their scenes such depth. It would be nice if there was an episode with just them, no companions and only a background villain/threat, maybe a bottle episode so they have to work together.
10. A Companion You’d Like To See Again: River Song, because her and Thirteen would be adorable. And if Graham was surprised about Thirteen previously being a man…well, his reaction would be hilarious!
11. An Enemy You Want To See Again: I feel like we haven’t had the Slitheen in a really long time (I adore saying Raxacoricofallapatorius) and that’s a pity to me. But, even so, I’m going with the Master. Especially as it’s the character’s 50th anniversary next year when the show returns, that deserves a commemoration of some kind. Maybe an episode from their POV?
12. If You Could Set A Story In Any Time Period What Would It Be? Well when I did my History MRes, my research focus was on the Cold War, so I guess somewhere in that time frame so I could let my inner history geek roam free. I had that a bit with Eleven’s ‘Cold War’, although I never learned much about Cold War submarines.
13. If You Could Travel With Any Doctor Which Would It Be? My instinct is to go for Eleven, but if I think in terms of whose personality I could get along with, I’d say Nine. I favour a no nonsense kind of person in reality.
I would nominate people, but I’ve only been on a Tumblr for about half a year and I originally signed up to discuss The Umbrella Academy – so no one I follow could really fill this in! Basically, I’m a saddo with no Whovians for friends. Maybe @badwolferosewrites - although I know you weren’t fussed with the latest season so feel free to ignore this.

aight i got the list here. be warned i Dont know a lot of detectives so you might disagree with a few.
@mythawolf @a-cloud-for-dreams
14. Precious Ramotswe [The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency]: Ranked the lowest on the list, I'd say Mma Ramotswe is not a bitch at all! She's funky and she's got unique methods, but at the end of the day she's a nice person. The only reason she's on here is because she's a detective I know.
13. Nancy Drew [Books by Carolyn Keene]: I uh. Don't remember much on her since it's been a while since I read the books. But here also I can say with certainty that she's nice and only on here because she a detective I know. Not a bitch.
12. Jinhan Chun [Dr. Frost]: See 11 and 12. He's also very nice from what I remember, voted not a bitch.
11. Yoon Sangah [Dr. Frost]: Not really a detective per se. Not a bitch either, very nice and helpful. Listed a bit higher than Jinhan because of her (extremely justified and understandable!!) reaction to Frost's reappearance, which leads me to have some faith in her.
10. Dr. Frost [Dr. Frost]: Not a detective either, but just as good as one. Not really a bitch. I can excuse not bothering with sociability completely, but he broke into someone's house and that's gotta count for something.
9. Hercule Poirot [Books by Agatha Christie]: Polite. Decidedly not a bitch. I believe in him though.
8. Damian Puig [Señorita Cometa]: His behaviour in episode 72 has earned him the title of potential bitch. He dabbles in bitchiness sometimes if he feels like it.
7. Isla Baht [Anything For You]: Isla has what I like to call bitch potential (not to be confused with potential bitch), wherein I think she could and should be ruder and weirder. With the way things are going I doubt I'll be disappointed. Isla, love, I hope to see you higher up the list soon.
6. Jagga [Jagga Jasoos]: EVERYONE SHUT UP IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE. He's probably a bitch. Gets points for annoying Shruti earlier in the movie.
5. Victor Getz [The Thief Lord]: Bitch potential. I think he could pull it off nicely.
4. Chase Carter [I'm The Grim Reaper]: Do I have to say anything? He knows he's a bitch. Gets more 'domesticated' towards Scarlet as the series goes on but I know the assholery is still there. Or, well. Was.
3. Chase Devineaux [Carmen Sandiego 2019]: Wouldn't be a true tiredguyswag post without a mention of this show. Transgender bitch icon. Ranked high due to earlier seasons, although he eventually gets his feminism arc.
2. Heera Akkineni [Original Character - Carmen Sandiego 2019]: Okay come on she HAS to be here. Massive cunt, law enforcement hates her, I and only I love her. Has the unique ability to get on anyone's nerves. I am rotating her in my mind 24/7. There are no lengths she wouldn't go to to achieve her goal.
1.,Sherlock Holmes [Books by Arthur Conan Doyle]: Do I have to say anything.
All of this is affectionate btw I love them all dearly
did i show you guys my list of detectives ranked by bitchiness
#there's probably more#but I forget#also miss marple isn't on this list cause I haven't read the books) watched the series yet

Here we go: 1, 2, 6, 8, 11, 30, 38 and 46? :)
Ahhhh thank you! I might split this into multiple posts...
Top 5 TV shows
1. Chuck
2. The Hour
3. Friends
4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
5. Poirot
Shout out also to Doctor Who and Downton Abbey for being dearly beloved but too infuriating to me at times to merit a place.
Top 5 overrated TV shows
1. The Big Bang Theory - actually not funny yet somehow consistently hailed as the most hilarious thing on TV wtf.
2. Once Upon a Time - it was so???? bad???????
3. Sherlock - it was SO FAR BEYOND BAD OH MY GOD by the last episode
4. Supernatural - the first episode was a tedious, sexist Buffy-lite piece of rubbish. How it has 10 seasons or whatever is mind-boggling.
5. Game of Thrones - uh, you all saw the final series, right? And quite a lot of it before that too.
More to come! :)

Ranking my favourite Jamie Bamber characters.
1) The love of my life Archie Kennedy ~ Hornblower.
Did someone say comfort character? God I love Archie so much! A cinnamon roll that could kill you in 0.02 seconds, and I’d let him. Can we also talk about his character development?! going from a damaged boy because of the trauma Simpson put him through, to his trauma from being imprisoned, to Hornblower finding and rescuing him and him finally getting the love and friendship he needs and finding his confidence. Stop I’ll cry.
Jamie just did an absolutely amazing job portraying Archie, and I’m so glad that they didn’t kill him off as soon as they were going to, and spent so much time building his character. But also justice for Arch because he did not deserve that ending, my poor sweet cinnamon roll may you rest in peace.
2) Matt Devlin ~ Law and Order: Uk.
Matthew Devlin, another Cinnamon roll I’m beginning to see a pattern here Jamie. A sassy little shit which I absolutely love, honestly just the best character that wanted the best for everyone he met. Would attack in a instant if you even touched a hair on Ronnie’s head, his adopted father figure. It took me a while to watch all of Law and Order: UK, because I could never find it anywhere but recently getting back into watching Jamie's stuff I found that BritBox had all the episodes and you can get a 7 day free trial so that’s how I watched them, I was also sending little reactions to my friend who I’m currently showing Hornblower too and it was so funny and make the experience all the more exciting.
3) John ~ Money (2016)
Ha ha, Well then what can I say about John? Other than I love this man and his nerve so much. A cocky little shit but in the best way possible. Like, no one should look THAT adorable after cutting someone’s finger off. Just saying.
4) Kev Allison ~ The Smoke.
Now I haven’t watched the smoke in ages because my brother nicked my dvds :’( but of what I remember Jamie did such an amazing job at getting me extremely emotionally invested in this series.
5) Lee ‘Apollo’ Adama ~ Battlestar Galactica.
I’ve only just really started watching Battlestar, which I feel is probably one of Jamie’s biggest gigs, I know sue me. Only watched a few episodes so far but I think once I really get into it I’m going to love it. I mean I’m already in love with Lee.
Colonel Alexander Coltrane ~ Strike Back.
What can I say about Alex, other than I’m wholly convinced this man wants, and will gladly ruin my life. I feel like strike back could have been such an amazing show if it had better writing, the characters and fight scenes were amazing but sometimes I just really wanted to punch my screen because something absolutely ridiculous or out of place would happen.
Other works of Jamie's I've seen:
- The Scarlet Pimpernel. (1999) - Poirot ~ Season 7, Episode 1. (2000) - Lady Audley’s Secret. (2000) - Band of Brothers ~ Episode 7, 8 & 9. (2001) - Ghost Whisperer ~ season 2, episode 17. (2007) - Pulse 2: Afterlife *didn’t finish this as it was so bad* (2008) - Outcasts ~ Season 1, Episode 1. (2011) - CSI: Miami ~ Season 10, Epiosde 3. (2011) - Un Jour Mon Pere Viendra. (2012) - John Doe: Vigilante. (2014) - The Better Half. (2015) - Numb. (2015) - NCIS ~ Season 12, Episodes 9, 14 & 22. Season 13, Episode 9 &11. (2014-2015) - You Choose! (2017) - Marcella (2016-2018) - Innocent (2021)

1 - 4 and 11 for the identity ask!
1. if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?
I think watching Bones would be a great insight into myself. And BBC Sherlock. You’d need to watch it keeping with a mindset on a character study of the main characters, Dr. Brennan and Sherlock, himself, respectively. I’m …surprsingly a lot like them. Not genius XD, but yeah, the turning of emotions, emotions can be dismissed, or I’ll understand and rationale them out for you attitude… That’s me. I remember one Bones episode in the later seasons, (10 I think?) It was about this Maths prof, whose daughter got killed. The only way he could react to this was by doing Maths equations. Everyone, including Booth, called him a freak, a machine, and only Brennan realised it was his way of expressing his memories of his daughter. An equation for a pirouette she did as a small ballerina, or another equation to calculate the speed she ran up to him for a hug, etc… I… don’t remember ever sobbing that hard at any other episode or show, or movie. Because that hit home. And hit it hard.
As for music, I love classical, mostly Medieval and Renaissance polyphonies. I also like Mozart a lot *shrugs*. As for modern… I’m like Sherlock? XD Nothing past 18th century? (j/k, but not really).
Books: Agatha Christie. I also read Bible a lot.
2. have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?
This is a though one. In general, hm, not really, in a sense it’s the gospel and everything they say I follow. BUT! There is this late Polish Father Badeni, OP, a Dominican priest, I read a lot and I agree a lot with his point of view.
As for fanfics etc. There a couple of writers that thinks exactly like me in they way they portray my ship and other relationships. For example take BBC Sherlock. Where we have @captain-darthsydious and her take on Mycroft, Mollcroft, Anthea, and the Holmes siblings. or @sunken-standard and her Fumbling Toward Ecstasy post TFP fic or the Ficlet Cementary is exactly how I see Sherlock and Molly’s relationship. The same goes for cactusnell (on ff.net and ao3), or @aunt-didi and her portrayal of Molly in her post TFP story (this is THE MOLLY for me). Also @lilsherlockian1975 for always inserting feelings and mutual understanding of love even in the dirties (hottest) smut. Or @mae-jones for her a little dark, dom, Sherlock. There are others as well, but those were that just popped into my mind right now.
3. list your fandoms and one character from each that you identify with.
BBC Sherlock - Sherlock Holmes (emotional damage, hidden protected big heart)Harry Potter - Hermione Granger (focus on education and knowledge and books)Bones - Dr. Temprance Brennan (emotional damage, hidden protected big heart)TBBT - Amy Farrah Fowler (yearn to be loved but also exasperation at her boyfriend XD)Sailor Moon - Mamoru Chiba(Darien Shields) (see SH and Bones)Criminal Minds - Penelope Garcia (her flashy appearance and big big heart as well as need to protect the others)CSI - Gil Grissom (see SH and Bones etc)Monk - Monk (his social awkwardness, not necessarily the quirks, I’m not OCD). Poirot - Miss Lemon (a woman behind the genius ;)). That turned quite revealing, but I actually knew this already…
4. do you like your name? is there another name you think would fit you better?
I love my name. It’s the name my Mum always wanted to give her daughter (I’m the oldest), and it means “Brave” and “Female Warrior” and the most famous one also graced with it was a Hungarian Princess that married a Polish Prince in 13th cent. She’s also a saint patron :) I’m really happy with it :D
11. describe your ideal day.
It’ll be late autumn, or winter, so I can stay indoors, with a roaring fire licking at a pleasantly scented wood. I’d be seated in a bean bag chair with a hot spiced tea or chocolate and my top favourite books or kindle with my top favourite fanfictions. Also my cat is sitting with me too.
Another option is baking whole day, starting with cookies, going through simple muffins, to simple pies, to more advanced cakes, to complicated desserts. Then presenting it to my friends so they can stuff their mouth with them to their content. Yeah, I love baking, just not many people to eat the stuff away ;)
Thank you for the ask :D

which shows have you watched and which shows do you still want to watch?
I’ve seen plenty of different shows in my life and obviously I’m not going to give all of them here, especially that probably there are some I totally forgot. :P So here are the ones I remember most or at least have some special meaning to me, in no particular order:1. Poldark (BBC)
2. Game of Thrones

I have a lot of series I want to see, definitely much more than I want to because time is ruthless, and I still wanna continue with at least some of the shows I haven’t finished. Anyway, from the list of my TV series yet to see, of highest priority are: American Horror Story: Asylum, The Handmaid’s Tale, Vikings, Dexter (I see you there, Merel!), The Good Wife, AHS Freak Show, Bates Motel... I also really want to watch True Detective, Jessica Jones, Victoria, The Knick, The Series of Unfortunate Events, Anne with an E, The Borgias, Rome, The Crown, Poldark (1970s), Poirot and many many more.

Ch. 3: “World Enough and Time” Analysis Doctor Who S10.11: Doctor’s OMG Hair, Meet Delilah’s Mr. Razor & More
<- Read previous chapter
Samson & Delilah: Doctor’s OMG Hair, Meet Mr. Razor
OMG, I could not believe how long the Doctor’s hair had gotten at the beginning of “World Enough and Time.” From now on, to distinguish Doctors, I’ll refer to the Doctor’s hair that we saw at the beginning of the episode as “OMG hair.”
In fact, it was even funnier that I had mentioned it in the previous analysis with my sudden revelation about Samson & Delilah, where River was Delilah.
Yes, DW is playing out this Old Testament story.
Due to time, I didn’t get to talk about the entire Samson & Delilah story and how it fits in. But I’ll show you in a few minutes how this fits together with River.
Funny: “A Thing Happened…”
First, though, a funny thing happened while watching the episode. I was so intent on getting subtext and trying to pick up dialogue that I wasn’t looking for John Simm. I’m not sure I would have recognized him under the makeup anyway. However…
Once he said
RAZOR: People, people, people, people, people! People, they are people.
I knew he was John Simm because only his Master has spoken this way before.
However, here’s the funny part: I didn’t catch his name on the first viewing. Once I watched with subtitles, I had another OMG moment when I realized his name was Mister Razor!
Wow! Ha..ha!
Mr. Razor & Delilah Will Give Samson a Haircut
There’s some additional information about the story of Samson & Delilah that’s quite important, so I’m going to weave it together here from different sources, including the razor part I mentioned from the previous analysis:
Wikipedia says
Samson had been dedicated as a Nazirite, "from the womb to the day of his death"; thus he was forbidden to touch wine or cut his hair.
While the 11th Doctor did abstain from alcohol, he had a shaved head in his last episode “The Time of the Doctor” and was wearing a wig for most of the time. Now, I see that the Samson and Delilah story was playing out then with Clara metaphorically asking God to restore Samson’s powers to defeat the Philistines.
The 12th Doctor drinks alcohol.
According to BibleStudyTools.com:
The summary from Scripture starts with Samson's birth was announced by an angel during a dark time for the Israelites. Israel was under the rule and oppression of the Philistines. Samson was born a Nazirite and was set apart with supernatural strength from God to do His work in the nation of Israel. Samson became great in his own eyes and began to pursue women outside of God's plan for his life. During his wedding sermon to a Philistine women, Samson was so humiliated by her and the wedding guests that he sought revenge by killing 1,000 Philistine men.
We’ve certainly seen the Doctor’s pride and ego take over, at times.
Anyway, regarding Samson, Wikipedia says
He then falls in love with Delilah in the valley of Sorek. The Philistines approach Delilah and induce her with 1,100 silver coins to find the secret of Samson's strength so they can get rid of it and capture their enemy.
We saw this money scene playing out with River in THORS. However, as we also saw how not everything was as it looked. We saw the Roman cross behind the money ball with access to all the banks, as River is really trying to save the Doctor from this alternate universe.
Delilah keeps trying to figure out the source of his strength, and Samson keeps telling her different sources, which she tries to exploit. But they are all lies.
This is mirrored with River. She said the Doctor’s name in “The Name of the Doctor,” which would have led to his torturous death, except Clara saved him. River knows this alternate universe has to die.
Eventually after much nagging from Delilah, Samson tells Delilah that he will lose his strength with the loss of his hair. God supplies Samson's power because of his consecration to God as a Nazirite, symbolized by the fact that a razor has never touched his head. Delilah calls for a servant to shave Samson's seven locks, then woos him to sleep "in her lap" (either literally or figuratively). With this, Samson has finally broken the last tenet of the Nazirite oath; God leaves him, and Samson is captured by the Philistines, who blind him by gouging out his eyes. After being blinded, Samson is brought to Gaza, imprisoned, and put to work grinding grain by turning a large millstone.
Here’s where the Doctor is blinded by eyes being gouged out, like we heard and saw in multiple ways with other characters and references in “The Empress of Mars” analysis.
Ohila, in “Hell Bent,” told the Doctor that he had broken every code he ever lived by, and we see his fall in one way, kind of sort of, in that episode. We’ll see it from a different angle in this last upcoming episode of the season. So Missy may be playing Delilah, or will it be River or Clara? Or is there something else?
I’ve often wondered about Missy’s 3W Institute in the finale of Season 8 where we see Danny Pink die. While the episode suggest 3W stood for “I love you,” I also saw it potentially as being Missy, River, and Clara, where 3W stands for “3 Women.” Vastra and Amy fit in here, too, but that is beyond this right now.
Anyway to finish Samson’s story, according to BibleStudyTools.com:
The Philistines brought Samson out before a great crowd of rulers and thousands of people gathered in the temple to celebrate his capture. Samson's hair had begun to grow back and as he leaned against the pillars of the temple, he prayed to God for strength once more to defeat the Philistines. Samson used all of his might and pushed down the temple, killing himself and thousands of Philistines and rulers.
God forgave Samson and still accomplished great things through Samson. It was through Samson's destruction of the temple and his death that the Israelites were freed from Philistine rule.
So Mr. Razor is the metaphorical symbol of the razor in this Old Testament story.
And this is foreshadowing the rescue and the Doctor’s fall and death. This is just more evidence of what we’ve examined over and over. While he’s not supposed to fall in love, as we examined before, it is necessary for the rescue.
Wow, how cool is that!?
Anyway, there’s a lot more to this. It’s a truly epic love story that spans all of DW, but I’ll save this for later…
Operation Exodus & Genesis of the Cybermen
Wow, I’ve been geeking out, since the airing of the episode, about all the cool things that are coming together!
Operation Exodus explains why we saw all those robots in Season 8, including the half-faced man in “Deep Breath” wanting to go to the Promised Land – Heaven. However, that’s the wrong Book. We’re not in the 2nd Book of the Old Testament right now. Before that, we have the Fall of Man and the Doctor.
We’re back in the 1st Book: Genesis.
As we’ve examined in various chapters, we are, indeed, going back in time and telling the backstory of the Doctor.
This is the epicenter of the Time War.
Don’t Make the Doctor Angry: “The Unicorn and the Wasp” & 1056
We keep seeing Floor 1056 come up in “World Enough and Time.” But what does it mean? It has a connection to “The Unicorn and the Wasp” and is from The Devastator series of Doctor Who: Battles in Time trading cards, meaning the Vespiform sting.
I’ve been wanting to talk about “The Unicorn and the Wasp” since the very 1st episode of Season 10 aired. However, I ran out of time to put it in “The Pilot” analysis. I would have put it in “Knock Knock,” but I ran out of time there, too. Anyway, this is the 10th Doctor story with Agatha Christie in 1926 (yet another 1926 reference) where a murder takes place after the Doctor and Donna crash a garden party. The odd thing is that later we see a giant wasp that turns out to be the murderer.
The Hybrid
Well, it’s not quite that simple because it turns human, and the Doctor can’t figure out whodunit right away. The wasp is actually a hybrid, who doesn’t realize he is a hybrid for 40 years of his life because he grew up in an orphanage. Normally, he lives the quiet life as Reverend Arnold Golightly, the vicar of a small English village until his death in 1926. He is the son of a human mother and Vespiform father. Vespiforms are an ancient and wise insectoid species.
In 1926, some time after his 40th birthday, his church had a break in. His temper flared when he caught the bandits in the act, discovering he had the ability to change from a humanoid appearance into a wasp-like alien.
The thieves are associated with a Greek Cross, meaning they represent Doctors. From all the subtext story, this suggests to me that the Doctors intentionally are driving the Doctor over the edge, so he has something to fight for. We saw that with Missy using Clara to push him over the edge and go hell bent through the universe.
As far as insects go, Clara has called the 12th Doctor a stick insect. Of course, there’s the insectoid shadow that we looked at prior to the airing of TRODM.
The Unicorn
The Unicorn refers to Scotland. In fact, according to Wikipedia, “The Lion and the Unicorn are symbols of the United Kingdom. They are, properly speaking, heraldic supporters appearing in the full royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. The lion stands for England and the unicorn for Scotland.”
Why the Wasp? & What’s “Knock Knock” Got to Do with It?
In 1991, Peter Capaldi appeared on the TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot with David Suchet who played Poirot. Suchet also played the landlord in “Knock Knock.” These appearances by both actors are important.
Capaldi played Claude Langton, who was being set up for murder by someone who wanted to commit suicide in the episode “Wasp’s Nest.” Therefore, having David Suchet in “Knock Knock” was a strategic move to bring in a bunch of subtext.
The Patriarchal Cross
The connection to “The Pilot” comes in with the Patriarchal cross, which I haven’t talked about before since I have yet to post my Religious metaphors chapter. Due to lack of time, I’m going to skip the images. However, there are crosses on the university building that match the cross the reverend’s mother is associated with. Bill actually is associated with the Patriarchial cross. By the metaphors, that would make Bill the parent of the reverend, the Doctor. But there’s more pointing to this…
In “The Lie of the Land” analysis, we looked at the woman with the son at the beginning, who was taken away with the shoebox. The subtext showed she was a mirror of Bill. And the boy had a rabbit, a symbol of redemption.
Also, interestingly, Mr. Razor says
RAZOR: You are dear to me. You are my dearest person. You are like BILL: I know. RAZOR: A mother to me. BILL: Definitely not a mother. RAZOR: Or an aunt.
Mr. Razor is playing the 24th Doctor.
I have no doubt that Bill and the Doctor are related. She is playing, among other things, various Doctor’s faces. And she is the namesake of the 1st Doctor, William Hartnell, while Heather is the name of Hartnell’s wife.
Episode Title References: a Poem, a Book, the Apocalypse & Rescue
The title “World Enough and Time” is a brilliant reference, and obviously DW has had this reference in mind for a long time. The title references multiple things, but it initially alludes to a line from the 17th-century poem, "To His Coy Mistress," written by English author and politician Andrew Marvell. The bolded words are ones that I want to give more information about.
To His Coy Mistress
Had we but world enough and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
We would sit down, and think which way
To walk, and pass our long love’s day.
Thou by the Indian Ganges’ side
Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide
Of Humber would complain. I would
Love you ten years before the flood,
And you should, if you please, refuse
Till the conversion of the Jews.
My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires and more slow;
An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest;
An age at least to every part,
And the last age should show your heart.
For, lady, you deserve this state,
Nor would I love at lower rate.
But at my back I always hear
Time’s wingèd chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity.
Thy beauty shall no more be found;
Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound
My echoing song; then worms shall try
That long-preserved virginity,
And your quaint honour turn to dust,
And into ashes all my lust;
The grave’s a fine and private place,
But none, I think, do there embrace.
Now therefore, while the youthful hue
Sits on thy skin like morning dew,
And while thy willing soul transpires
At every pore with instant fires,
Now let us sport us while we may,
And now, like amorous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour
Than languish in his slow-chapped power.
Let us roll all our strength and all
Our sweetness up into one ball,
And tear our pleasures with rough strife
Through the iron gates of life:
Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.
So world enough and time is about the poet wishing he had more time with the coy lady. There are 4 other references that I highlighted worth mentioning here. We’ve seen lots of birds of prey lately. There’s the mention of the sun: the Doctor running with his companions to avoid the sunset and the passage of time.
Wow, how interesting the poet uses “My vegetable love”! That’s interesting when compared to the normal “animal love.” This most likely refers to a couple of things in DW. First, since we are talking about the Garden of Eden, garden goes along with vegetables. In fact, the Doctor mentions “garden”:
DOCTOR: Short version. Because of the black hole, time is moving faster at this end of the ship than the other. It's all about gravity. Gravity slows down time. The closer you are to the source of gravity, the slower time will move. (Jorj looks blank) If you're standing in your garden, your head is travelling faster through time than your feet. Don't they teach you this stuff at space school?
However, vegetable love may also come back to something we looked at with the “Heaven Sent” analysis in Chapter 17 of Fairytales and Romance in Doctor Who the 4th Doctor story “The Seeds of Doom,” where 2 alien pods land on Earth. One opens and creates a jungle-like environment. They can possess animals and take revenge on animals eating them. Plants and trees have an important place in the story. The basic plot is playing out in this finale. Just substitute people for plants.
The other reference in the poem is much bigger – “before the flood” – and alludes to multiple things.
Genesis & Noah, “Before the Flood,” & a Rainbow
With all the talk of the Book of Genesis, the line with “before the flood” takes on new meaning in DW. It’s a flood on a grand scale – an apocalyptic event, a Ragnarök of sorts. Of course, it refers to the story of Noah’s Ark, where God instructs Noah (a righteous individual) to build an ark to spare him and his family, along with some animals from the flood that will destroy the world before its rebirth.
The poem’s line also alludes to the Season 9 episode “Before the Flood,” where we see the Fisher King creating ghosts. So this flood is meant to destroy the source of the ghosts, the Fisher King, who actually puts his arms out and makes himself into a cross before he dies. He’s being crucified. The Fisher King, as we’ve examined, is supposed to be a good character from Arthurian Legend.
Because the flood was so devastating and people would fear rain, God made a promise to Noah and all Earth that he would never send another flood to destroy all life again. The visible sign he sent was a rainbow.
We saw a rainbow at the end of “The Eaters of Light,” just before everyone got in the TARDIS. While the episode was mostly about another view of “Face the Ravens,” it showed the outline for this week’s “World Enough and Time” (with people united together, pawns in the Chess game), and the rainbow to show the results of “Hell Bent” and the upcoming final episode.
The Flood & “The Unicorn and the Wasp”
The flood and waters relate to “The Unicorn and the Wasp,” too. Golightly’s mother Clemency told the story of how she had had an affair. When she came back to England, she locked herself away, saying she had malaria, to hide the pregnancy, even from her husband.
CLEMENCY: It was forty years ago, in the heat of Delhi, late one night. I was alone, and that's when I saw it. A dazzling light in the sky. The next day, he came to the house. Christopher, the most handsome man I'd ever seen. Our love blazed like a wildfire. I held nothing back. And in return he showed me the incredible truth about himself. He'd made himself human, to learn about us. This was his true shape. (A giant wasp.) CLEMENCY: I loved him so much, it didn't matter. But he was stolen from me. 1885, the year of the great monsoon. The river Jumna rose up and broke its banks. He was Taken At The Flood. But Christopher left me a parting gift. A jewel like no other. I wore it always. Part of me never forgot. I kept it close, always.
ROBINA: Just like a man. Flashes his family jewels and you end up with a bun in the oven. AGATHA: A poor little child. Forty years ago, Miss Chandrakala took that newborn babe to an orphanage. But Professor Peach worked it out. He found the birth certificate.
There is a geographical connection with the poem, as both have aspects set in India: Delhi and the Ganges, respectively. The poem, therefore, is meant to relate to Clemency and Christopher, the hybrid’s parents. Since we have multiple faces of the Doctor, who is whom?
Also, Golightly’s father died in a great monsoon, and the son, himself, drowned. The 2 characters who have drowned or nearly so, are Rory in “The Curse of the Black Spot” and the 12th Doctor in “Heaven Sent.”
The Poet & the Daughter
There’s even more to glean from this title reference. The poet and his tutoring give us some very important subtext, too. According to Wikipedia:
"To His Coy Mistress" is a metaphysical poem written by the English author and politician Andrew Marvell (1621–1678) either during or just before the English Interregnum (1649–60). It was published posthumously in 1681.
This poem is considered one of Marvell's finest and is possibly the best recognized carpe diem poem in English. Although the date of its composition is not known, it may have been written in the early 1650s. At that time, Marvell was serving as a tutor to the daughter of the retired commander of the New Model Army, Sir Thomas Fairfax.
Sir Thomas Fairfax Gives Us Information about the Rescue & Apocalypse
The Doctor is mirroring Marvell, who is tutoring Sir Thomas Fairfax’s daughter, played by Bill. According to Wikipedia, Sir Thomas Fairfax’s nicknames are “Black Tom” and “Rider of the White Horse.”
We’ve examined the Rider and the White Horse in connection with the New Testament Apocalypse in “The Lie of the Land” analysis. The White Horse symbolizes Conquest and there is a debate by some on whether the Rider is Christ or the Antichrist. DW is playing both sides of the war, which comes back to what we’ve examined in multiple ways: the Horse and Rider, along with the name Lucifer, CAL’s world and “Turn Left.”
In one universe, the Doctor is seen as the savior of the universe. However, in the other universe, he would be the Antichrist, the Destroyer of Worlds. According to Wikipedia,
Thomas Fairfax, 3rd Lord Fairfax of Cameron (17 January 1612 – 12 November 1671), also known as Sir Thomas, Lord Fairfax, was an English nobleman, peer, politician, general, and Parliamentary commander-in-chief during the English Civil War. An adept and talented commander, Fairfax led Parliament to many victories, notably the crucial Battle of Naseby, becoming effectively military ruler of the new republic, but was eventually overshadowed by his subordinate Oliver Cromwell, who was more politically adept and radical in action against Charles I. Fairfax became unhappy with Cromwell's policy and publicly refused to take part in Charles's show trial. Eventually he resigned, leaving Cromwell to control the republic. Because of this, and also his honourable battlefield conduct and his active role in the Restoration of the monarchy after Cromwell's death, he was exempted from the retribution exacted on many other leaders of the revolution. His dark hair and eyes and a swarthy complexion earned him the nickname "Black Tom".
In the DW world, it sounds like Bill’s father (the Rider of the White Horse) is trying to rescue her. With the gender change, it could be her mother. Since Bill is a face of the Doctor, the Doctor’s Mother metaphor would apply to her. The Doctor, himself, has to be rescued, too.
This all foreshadows redemption and rightful restoration after the DW revolution.
Robert Oppenheimer & the Righteous War in the Bhagavad-Gita
I can’t get this relevant quote out of my head, so I’m adding it:
“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds” – Robert Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer, according to Wikipedia, was an
American theoretical physicist and professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley. Oppenheimer was the wartime head of the Los Alamos Laboratory and is among those who are credited with being the "father of the atomic bomb" for their role in the Manhattan Project, the World War II undertaking that developed the first nuclear weapons used in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
…
Oppenheimer later recalled that, while witnessing the explosion, he thought of a verse from the Bhagavad Gita [shown above]
The Bhagavad-Gita is Hindu scripture in Sanskrit, which Oppenheimer could read. It is often just referred to as Gita. This is very appropriate to the Doctor and what is happening.
The Gita is set in a narrative framework of a dialogue between Pandava prince Arjuna and his guide and charioteer Lord Krishna. Facing the duty as a warrior to fight the Dharma Yudhha or righteous war between Pandavas and Kauravas, Arjuna is counselled by Lord Krishna to "fulfill his Kshatriya (warrior) duty as a warrior and establish Dharma." Inserted in this appeal to kshatriya dharma (chivalry) is "a dialogue ... between diverging attitudes concerning methods toward the attainment of liberation (moksha)".
This passage reminds me of the Ice Warriors and the Doctor in “The Empress of Mars,” pledging their duty as warriors.
Science & World Enough And Space-Time
Being that we are talking about Black Holes, space-time science is important. DW is using real science on the spaceship, when talking about time dilation. Time would be slower closer to the Black Hole due to the immense gravity. However, I do question the almost negligible space distance of 400 miles against the force of gravity of a Black Hole. I’m no expert and I’ll leave it at that.
Having said that, this is all metaphorical, and we know we are in the alternate universe, so it doesn’t matter. There’s plenty of other stuff that tells us other things aren’t right. The 400 miles, refers to the Library, once again.
I actually do see this spaceship-Black Hole relationship in the episode as brilliant. I’ll show you why in a bit.
Anyway, the title of the episode relates to a 1989 book by the American physicist John Earman called World Enough And Space-Time: Absolute vs. Relational Theories of Space and Time.
Goodread’s description says
Earman introduces and clarifies the historical and philosophical development of the clash between Newton's absolute conception of space and Leibniz's relative one.
It leads into Einstein’s theories on relativity.
BTW, I do love the title World Enough And Space-Time in relation to DW. It’s so appropriate.
Black Holes & the Eye of Harmony
Since we are touching on science and relativity, it seems appropriate to examine the Black Hole metaphor here, which includes the Eye of Harmony. The existence of the Black Hole metaphor in “World Enough and Time” is a reference to “The Impossible Planet” and “The Satan Pit,” so we know, from our previous examinations, that slavery and the Beast are involved. These last 3 Season 10 episodes have been about facing one’s beast.
The Doctor, Nardole, Missy, and Jorj are looking up at the Black Hole, which really is the Eye of Harmony. And it’s a djinni with an octagon. From “The Impossible Planet,” we learned that people could go mad by looking at it.
We need to revisit the definition of the Eye from the Wikia because it tells us what can happen. According to the TARDIS Wikia, regarding the Eye of Harmony in the TARDIS Cloister Room in the Doctor Who movie in 1996:
It was a stone structure shaped like a hemisphere which appeared to open outwards like an eyelid. While inside the Cloister Room of the TARDIS, the Master described the Eye as "the heart of this structure". The Doctor said it was "[t]he power source of the heart of the TARDIS." Both the Doctor and the Master claimed to Chang Lee that it belonged to the Doctor; the Doctor referring to it as "my Eye" and the Master saying that "now it belongs to him". The Eye responded to a physical linking device. The particular structure of a human eye had the effect of opening it.
Opening the Eye allowed the Master and Lee to see a visual projection of the Doctor's past and present forms and let them see what the Doctor saw so that they could find him. It also assisted in returning the amnesiac Doctor's memories. The Doctor claimed that if he looked into the Eye, his "soul" would be destroyed, and the Master would be able to take over his body. Leaving the TARDIS' Eye open for too long would result in space-time distortion, and any nearby planets would be "sucked through it".
Here’s where I find this situation with the Black Hole and the spaceship brilliant. From the movie, opening the Eye allowed the Master to see a visual projection of the Doctor’s past and present forms. This is exactly what is happening due to time dilation. On his TV, the Master has found the Doctor and is viewing him and others in their past and present forms at the same time, due to time dilation near the Black Hole in the Eye of Harmony. This is such a brilliant way to do this! It’s so elegant.
The Eye of the Black Hole is most likely the Doctor’s, as the movie suggests. That means the Master can take over the Doctor. There are multiple Doctors, so things aren’t the way they may seem. The Doctor has been taken over, but I’ll talk about that in another chapter.
Is the Doctor in the Opening an Imposter?
The Doctor in the opening appears different than we’ve ever seen him. OMG hair and fierce look. He also does something strange.
The Tardis materialises in a snowstorm. The Doctor steps out, falls to his knees and starts to regenerate. He cries out in pain.) DOCTOR: No. No. Nooooo!
The Doctor not wanting to go is a big red flag to me, especially for a Doctor who has been suicidal. I could possibly see that this is really him if he were in the middle of saving someone.
However, this is very much a Master thing to do. We know the Doctor has been usurped, so chances are that this is not the real Doctor.
BTW, the Doctor is wearing his raggedy 11th Doctor-type jacket again.
In the Next Chapters
We’ll take a look at how “World Enough and Time” is applying concepts set up in “Heaven Sent,” along with “Face the Raven.” Also, we’ll look at the meaning of “Doctor Who” as the Doctor’s title, how. We’ll also look at the Master, some really creepy subtext in the Hospital metaphor, the meaning of solar farms, Mondas, and more.

Overview(edit)
Each series consists of four feature-length episodes, except series six which only has three episodes. The first six episodes were all adaptations of Miss Marple novels by Christie. Subsequent episodes were derived both from works featuring Miss Marple but also Christie novels that did not feature the character. The title of the series removes the word Miss from Miss Marple, to match the title of the Agatha Christie's Poirot series.(3)
Plot outline(edit)
Main article: List of Agatha Christie's Marple episodes
Agatha Christie's Marple follows the adventures of Miss Jane Marple, an elderly spinster living in the quiet little village of St. Mary Mead. During her many visits to friends and relatives in other villages (and sometimes when simply being at home), Miss Marple often stumbles upon or hears about mysterious murders, which she helps solve. Although the police are sometimes reluctant to accept Miss Marple's help, her reputation and unparalleled powers of observation eventually win them over.
During her adventures, Miss Marple is aided by close friends, relatives, or other allies that she meets, which include Tommy and Tuppence - protagonists of another series of Christie novels.
Recurring characters(edit)
The only character to appear in every episode is Miss Marple herself, played by Geraldine McEwan through series 3 and by Julia McKenzie from series 4 onwards.(4)(5)
A few other characters appear in more than one episode, although they are not always played by the same actor. Exceptions are Joanna Lumley, who plays Mrs Dolly Bantry in The Body in the Library and The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, and Stephen Churchett, who appears as the coroner in four episodes.
Dr Haydock appears in three episodes, but is played by three different actors: Robin Soans in The Body in the Library, Robert Powell in The Murder at the Vicarage and Neil Stuke in The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side. Jason Rafiel, an old friend of Marple's, was voiced by Herbert Lom (who also made an on-screen appearance as Mr Dufosse in The Murder at the Vicarage) in Nemesis and played by Antony Sher in A Caribbean Mystery.
The series also featured real-life characters: Winston Churchill appeared in The Sittaford Mystery, Noël Coward in 4:50 from Paddington, Louis Armstrong in At Bertram's Hotel, and Ian Fleming and James Bond in A Caribbean Mystery.
Adaptations(edit)
Christie wrote twelve novels about Miss Marple, all of which have been adapted for the series. They are:
In addition, a short story featuring Miss Marple, 'The Blue Geranium,' was adapted into a full-length episode.
Three others were modified by the show - 'Greenshaw's Folly' and 'The Thumb Mark of St. Peter' were combined into one story, whilst elements of 'The Herb of Death' were incorporated into the adaptation of 'The Secret of Chimneys.'
It ceased to be likely that the remaining 18 short stories would be adapted by ITV after the BBC bought the rights to produce Agatha Christie adaptations.
Awards and nominations(edit)
Geraldine McEwan was nominated for a Satellite Award in 2005 for her role as Miss Marple in Series 1.(6) The first series was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2005.
Worldwide distribution(edit)
Agatha Christie's Marple is aired in the United States on PBS on Mystery!, where it is presented as Agatha Christie's 'Miss Marple.' The series is broadcast to the whole of Canada on CBC and in French on Radio-Canada. In Australia, Agatha Christie's Marple airs on ABC1.
Marple is also being broadcast on ATV World in Hong Kong, on EBS and MegaTV in South Korea and on CCTV-8 in China. China, however, refused to show The Body in the Library and Murder Is Easy, due to the involvement of a lesbian and an incestuous relationship respectively. Why Didn't They Ask Evans? was extensively edited, due to the involvement of War-period China.
In Norway, the series has been airing on state broadcaster NRK1 as 'Miss Marple.' In Sweden, Marple airs on TV4, the biggest commercial TV station. In Poland, the series airs on Ale Kino+. In the Czech Republic it is broadcast under the name Slečna Marplová, the Czech for 'Miss Marple.'
In Brazil, the series airs on HBO Brasil.
Changes to novels(edit)
The show has sparked controversy with some viewers for its adaptations of the novels.
The Body in the Library makes some significant changes including a lesbian affair and the identity of one of the killers.
The Murder at the Vicarage makes up Miss Marple's early life.
4:50 from Paddington changes the killer's motive.
A Murder Is Announced changes a couple of the characters and changes an implied lesbian relationship in the book to an explicit one.
Sleeping Murder inserts a central romantic relationship and a travelling band of singers named 'The Funnybones.'
The Moving Finger has a few minor changes.
By the Pricking of My Thumbs was not originally a Miss Marple book, and changes many plot elements.
The Sittaford Mystery is very loosely based on the novel and changes the identity of the killer and inserts Miss Marple into the story.
At Bertram's Hotel was only very loosely based on the novel, and changes the plot, characters and setting.
Ordeal by Innocence includes drastic changes to the characters, the least of which is adding Marple into the story.
Towards Zero was not originally a Miss Marple book.
Nemesis is only very loosely based on the novel, and experiments with both the suspects and setting.
A Pocket Full of Rye is a faithful adaption of the book, with only minor changes to the way characters are described.
Murder Is Easy was very loosely based on the book and it was not originally a Miss Marple book, also changing the murderer's motive.
They Do It with Mirrors combines a few characters and adds an arson attack.
Why Didn't They Ask Evans? was not originally a Miss Marple book, and was completely rewritten.
The Pale Horse was not originally a Miss Marple book and makes many liberties with the plot.
The Secret of Chimneys was not originally a Miss Marple book; it also changes the killer's identity and uses elements from 'The Herb of Death.'
'The Blue Geranium' is greatly embellished from the original short story.
The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side keeps closely to the original story.
A Caribbean Mystery keeps closely to the original story, apart from the inclusion of real-life novelist Ian Fleming and ornithologist James Bond.
'Greenshaw's Folly' is combined with 'The Thumb Mark of St. Peter;' the story is embellished, but keeps to the core of the original.
Endless Night was not originally a Miss Marple book, but is very similar to 'The Case of The Caretaker.'
