Asking off anon cuz I’m brave and I know a certain mutual of ours would maybe enjoy this. Do you think ghouls cum harder than normal humans? I know you’ve said they cum *more* but do you think their orgasms would be more intense? Like growling, biting, eyes rolling back kind of strong? (Specifically referring to Hancock also, but all ghouls welcome)
I'll always respect the guts to ask off anon, soldier. Plus, you guys know how much I enjoy a chance to wax poetic about ghouls blowing their beans.
My official answer would be that ghoulification definitely opens you up to the ability to cum so hard you literally go blind for a second or two, but whether or not you're able to actually achieve that in the moment would depend on the ghoul.
If they're relatively physically healthy, overall intact, and decently confident, I think the average ghoul could probably cum intensely hard, both in terms of the sensation and the force of the ejaculation itself. If your body could be used as a low-grade radioactive power source, I figure it would increase the speed at which your nervous system sends and receives electrical signals, which is one of the most basic components of achieving orgasm. This would also lead to heightening of the senses and increased physical sensitivity as I've discussed before. Other damage to their body may negate some of that sensitivity, though, and having an orgasm also has a physiological component (as in it's dictated by the literal physical structure of the body as well as its electrical impulses). Overall, though, it's still present.
However, I've also mentioned that more intense sensations aren't always a good thing, particularly when it comes to sex. For some, I think this increase in sensitivity/change in how things feel may put them off certain acts and positions, or even put them off sex in general. Overstimulation can be painful. Some penis-having ghouls may avoid penetration, either due to the intensity of it being unpleasant or them being unable to avoid blowing their load almost instantly. The former is something you can grit your teeth through, but it has the unfortunate side effect of making it seem like you're suffering through sex with your partner instead of enjoying it. The latter is just embarrassing for some, especially if it happens consistently
There are also plenty of ghouls who are not physically healthy, overall intact, or decently confident, though. Often, they lack some combination of the three. They may have existing injuries that make arousal or sex in general difficult, or they may lack self-confidence/a sense of security to a degree that it impairs them sexually. I believe that if they reach orgasm, it's still quite intense feeling, but they may or may not be able to get there.
Overall, I'd say it's a spectrum. At one end, you have ghouls like John Hancock, Edward Deegan, or Harland, folks who are physically healthy (overall) and have been out there slinging dick pretty frequently. They have the self-confidence and social capability, though they may be saddled with some psychological or emotional baggage. They'll nearly put your eye out when they cum if you aren't careful, or accidentally hurt you if they don't maintain control of their strength when they crest that peak. They may get bitey, or growl and snarl in an entirely inhuman way. Furniture may wind up destroyed. The presence of outside radiation only fuels them and makes it "worse".
In the middle, there are people like Cooper Howard, Gob, and the Vault Tec Rep. A few different examples of a similar level of limitation. While Cooper is pretty intact physically, he's spent pretty much all the time between when the bombs dropped and when you meet ignoring/repressing his sexual needs. He struggles with getting into the right psychological space for sex. Gob has engaged with his sexuality in his time as a ghoul, but on an exclusively solo basis, and under a lot of stress most of the time; intimacy requires a lot of trust and vulnerability he may struggle to give. The Vault Tec Rep has enough self-confidence to put himself out there and has had multiple partners since the bombs, but he has some physical limitations due to the severity of his injuries from being flash-ghoulified. On a good day, ghouls like this cum just as hard as the former category; it may just take a bit of extra patience or know-how in order to make it happen. On an average day, they'll have a weaker orgasm that takes longer to achieve, or they may not finish at all.
At the other end are ghouls who often struggle to finish at all. This can include those like Raul and Charon, who are mostly physically intact, but have mental blocks that inhibit them sexually. Neither of them is especially capable of letting their guard down enough to cum very often or very hard. It would include those who are very heavily scarred or injured as well. I'll place those like Kent Connolly, who are ace but willing to explore sex with the right person, in this category, too. Once in a blue moon, ghouls like this have the sort of earth-shattering finish you're describing, but it's not often, and it usually takes a lot out of them when it does happen.

summary: Finally leaving the comfort of your base pharmacy, you're thrown into a makeshift medical tent. With the change of scenery, you went to work to make yourself useful to both the medics and the soldiers. This isn't your first deployment but it is the first time that someone under the effects of morphine and ketamine confesses their love to you. A sequel to "a panacea"
pairing: Price x pharmacist!Reader
warnings: medical/pharmacy terminology, medical inaccuracies, swearing, depiction of wounds, fluff, and flirting

Assignments overseas were both exciting and painful for you. While you liked the different atmosphere, you spent most of your time making sure your makeshift pharmacy was stocked and ran around providing aid when needed. Every day was spent looking at the shelves and counting every bottle, vial, and box. When you weren’t occupied with that, you were prepping IV bags and debating with doctors regarding their treatment plans. You by no means had to face the horrors of fighting but it was frustrating, monotonous work.
However, besides the paperwork and bureaucracy, you hated seeing the friendly faces of your patients twisted in agony as the doctor reset their bones or stitched their wounds. You would spend your lunches at their bedside trying to ease their mind away from the pain and entertaining them with stories and your never-ending facts.
As you entered the temporary infirmary, you recognized the resting face of Captain Price. He was the only man there as the others had either recovered or been set home. You had heard he had become injured earlier this morning. A bullet through his neck/upper chest you would later learn. Miraculously, the bullet exited in one piece and missed his vital arteries and clavicle bone. You knew he’d heal well but you couldn’t imagine the pain he was in. He would be sent on the next flight home and was only here for the remainder of the afternoon. You worried about his condition.
As you entered, the field medic whispered that the Captain had just been wheeled onto the cot. They described his unit's quick actions in applying a Hemcon dressing to the entrance and exit wound. Once back at the base, they provided him with IV Lactated Ringer to provide him with some necessary electrolytes and nutrients. His case was a priority so within the next two hours he would be transferred to a proper hospital.
As you nodded at the standard procedure, the medic added, "The nurse and I hooked him up to an IV drip so hopefully it kicks it in soon." With that, the medic was off to either take a nap or get something to eat. If it were you, you’d be stealing some melatonin and passing out. You appreciated the medic’s information and started to walk towards Price’s cot.
“Y/N, what a surprise to see you here,” Price said, eyes still closed.
“I can see why you rose through the ranks. You have a scary sense of observation,” you joked and grabbed a stool to sit next to him.
“You’re just predictable. Plus how could I miss your recognizable perfume and soap? You have to tell me how they let you out of that mandated shit they call bar soap.” He replied, now turning to face you. He tried agonizingly to lay on his side as you rose from your seat trying to calm him.
“If you stop moving and rest, I’d let you have some,” you said adjusting his pillow and placing a hand on his stomach to lay him back down.
“Now doctor, is that a way to touch your patient?” he flirted. You knew the IV was beginning to kick in. You examined the label and noted the Captain was being infused with a cocktail of ketamine and morphine. You knew this was one of the strongest agents there was, learning it was first-line in extensive battlefield injuries.
His blabbering did come as a shock though as Price was always professional with you. Yes, the loving pet names left you wondering if there was more to him and you but you never received full confirmation.
Following Gaz’s visit to you, Price had become a close friend and you both were able to vent about your frustrations of the day. Although you both had confidential information you couldn’t share, he entertained you with requests to give Soap something that would shut him up and calm the Scot.
He was laughing on the verge of tears when you told him once that he should ask the veterinarian department for a muzzle and dog whistle.
“Oh, they really gave you the good stuff. There’s no way this is the strong, commanding officer I know,” you wanted to add ‘and love’ to the end of that statement but weren’t going to compromise yourself like that.
“I am much more than a commanding officer, Y/N.” he drowsily replied. “I can be anything, a lover, a boyfriend, even a husband”
God, they must have given him a hefty dose by the way he was speaking. You blushed profusely and soon felt too hot to be around him.
“Well, I’m sure some lucky person would cherish all of those. Although I’m no fisherman, I would say you are a catch, John” you responded with a giggle following.
“Not just any lucky person, I’m talking about the pharmacist Y/N,” he began and you couldn’t believe what you were hearing. Besides the fact he hadn’t remembered that you were sitting next to him, he was confessing his desire to marry you. What kind of £1 romance novel was this? “They’re beyond smart and I swear, their touch feels like silk. Oh, and I love the fact that florists have the red and blue striped pole in the front because of historic bloodletting practices.”
“Barbers,” you corrected, “barbershops have that.” You had told him that story on a late evening at the pharmacy. He had graciously shown up with a cup of his famous coffee as he knew you were preparing your medication list for tomorrow’s long meeting with the heads of the medical department. This was your 2nd assignment overseas and you knew they wanted a comprehensive list regarding what was necessary for deployment. Worse yet, this three-month timeframe meant you needed to supply for six months, in case anything happened. Somehow, as you sipped you both sipped your coffee into the early hours of the morning, you had landed on the history of medicine and barbers.
“Anyways, Y/N would make the perfect partner. I want to wake up to them in the morning and know they're safe in my arms,” he continued, “No one would pass up on the opportunity to have someone to come home to and share moments with.”
“I’m sure Captain L/N is an amazing person. Maybe you should consider taking them out of their pharmacy and have something more than just your coffee” you replied. After that night with Price, you would constantly look for his signature hat and dashing smile everywhere you went. You always happened to visit his office when you knew he was working long nights and always were coincidentally getting some fresh air as he took an afternoon smoke.
You wondered how his calloused hands would feel intertwined in yours and if you could taste the smoke on his lips from his bad habit.
“As soon as I get overseas, I’ll be sure to march into the pharmacy and sweep them off their feet, soldier. Just wait and see,” he said followed by a large yawn.
“John, I think it’s time to rest,” you said and slowly got up off the stool.
Reacting to your movement, he lazily grabbed your arm and asked, “Do you think they’d drop that stop-smoking crap if we were married?”
This man was full of jokes and painkillers. You wished you’d be able to take a video of him in this state. “Might just have to ask them yourselves when you’re better. You should get some sleep Captain, you have a long flight ahead of you,” you whispered as his eyes fluttered closed.
When Price woke up the next day in a proper hospital, he noticed his prized hat on the table next to him along with some other belongings. Leaning over, he reached for it and saw a small note written on a doctor’s prescription pad in its inner lining.
In precise handwriting, he read “To my coffee hero, I was touched by what you said even in your drug-fueled state. If you mean what you said, then I have a proposition for you. Once we’re both on leave and you’re recovered, fancy a date with me? Maybe we can roam the streets of London and I’ll be sure to keep you entertained with my facts.
With love, Y/N”

It wasn’t years later that you provided Price with the exact words he had said to you. He would have loved it, only if you hadn’t revealed it to him in front of friends and family during your vows. ┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊

tails + "how long do you think you could hide that" perhaps
The Sonic Boom really should have been warning enough. However, growing up around them meant that Tails had more or less tuned them out. Sonic coming and going at his own speed (Mach 2) was simply a fact of life.
Plus, Station Square had always been pretty noisy. There could have been a thousand reasons that the sky suddenly shook. Especially since Extreme Gear had just crossed the speed of sound, and plenty of teenagers were using them more often despite them being restricted. (But like, who was going to catch them at that speed? Sonic? Even if the mayor asked him to, he’d just give them a high five.)
So no, Tails did not react. He’d learned to tune them out when working years ago; most of the time, he could even sleep through them.
Fatal error number one, really.
But Tails would never have expected Sonic to turn up here.
After all, despite being gifted a New Station Square penthouse, Sonic never came here.
At best, it was a place for Sonic to store all the Sonic-The-Hedgehog-themed gag gifts his friends gave him over the years.
(And yes, Tails is a little creeped out by the sheer amount of it, despite being the one to purchase at least a third of it. When he arrived at night, he’d tried keeping the lights off so he could pretend it wasn’t as decked out as it clearly was in the daytime, but the glow-in-the-dark shower curtain jump-scared him. His tails had stayed bushy for a full half-hour after. Ugh.)
Sonic hadn’t been able to get out of legally owning it, either. So despite still being a nomad in name and practice and worldview, Sonic T. Hedgehog officially had an apartment in New Station Square. Which meant to save face he would absolutely, never, under any circumstances, come here.
And he especially wouldn’t come here looking for Tails.
That’s what Tails thought, at least, until, a minute after the Sonic Boom, the door burst open.
Tails, clad in an oversized Sonic Sez T-Shirt, blinks up at him. As embarrassing as the shirt is, he’s glad he’s wearing it, because what’s underneath is way worse.
“Way to check in,” Sonic says, in lieu of hello. “‘Yeah, I definitely am going home after this,’” he mimics. “‘I’ll just be working on some software updates for Tailsblr, don’t worry, you can go check out the Spagonia ruins, I’ll be fine!’”
“I don’t sound like that.”
Sonic arches a brow.
“I don’t!” Tails, embarrassed, scrunches his face up in a pursed-lip pout. It’s incredibly tough-looking, he knows. “What are you doing here, anyways?”
Sonic glances around at the Sonic-themed apartment. “...Are you going to make me say it, or-”
“Never thought you’d call this ‘your’ apartment,” Tails mumbles.
“Okay, point.” Sonic leans in the doorway, effectively blocking Tails’s only exit, unless he busts open a window. Which he doesn’t want to do. The Sonic-themed-stained glass would be almost impossible to duplicate, and Amy paid good money for that birthday… ‘gift’. “You gonna tell me what you’re doing here, though? And why you haven’t checked in with anyone?”
Tails crosses his arms over his chest. He definitely doesn’t look petulant. Wincing ruins it, but he does his best to play it off, putting on an annoyed expression he’s not sure Sonic totally believes. “...no.”
Sonic, predictably, eyes Tails. And the shirt he’s wearing. “I came all this way though?” he says, faux casually. “Nice digs, by the way.”
“I figured it would be good camouflage.”
“Hiding from me got that serious, huh?”
What is there to say to that, exactly? Tails huffs, but ruins it with the way he toes his foot against the ground. Unsocked, because his usual ones are washing – and he couldn’t, surprisingly, find any Sonic-themed socks among the mess. He could’ve found slippers, but his paws were big enough as it was.
Sonic, as always, takes it upon himself to fix it. He steps closer, unsubtly poking around him trying to find an injury.
Tails turns away, trying to avoid Sonic getting too close, but it’s a losing battle with a decisive defeat when he winces again. Sonic sees it, because of course he does, and capitalizes on it immediately.
“We really have to do this the hard way?”
It sounds almost petulant. Tails huffs. “I don’t know what you’re talking about-”
“It can’t possibly be more embarrassing than hiding here of all places.”
“Who said it was embarrassing?”
“Then you’ve got to give me an explanation, because otherwise that’s what I’m going with, bud.” Sonic intentionally challenges him, maybe knows deep down that it’s something else. When Tails doesn’t offer an explanation though, Sonic just sighs. “Alright, guess I’m just gonna assume you’re hiding out here licking your wounds…”
Tails grimaces. There’s no putting it off or getting out of it, is there?
With a sigh, Tails finally stops squirming away, though his tails continue to swish in annoyance. But the battle is over, and he knows he’s lost. So with a grand, over-dramatic sigh, he lifts the shirt, which loosely conceals bandages, and more importantly, a back brace.
“I have to wear it for another week,” he grumbles, lowering the shirt back down, because an oversized Sonic Sez Stay In School! shirt (...did they even ask Sonic before they made that slogan?) is way less embarrassing than the medical brace. “More, in theory, but by then I’ll be mobile enough to make myself a cool exoskeleton so I can go back to helping.”
Sonic raises both brows. “I, uh,” he starts, looking for a moment at a loss for words. He stares.
Tails decides to cut him a break. “I’ve been using the sketch pads here to draft out all the important parts of the exoskeleton,” he continues, “And honestly, I’ll probably keep using it for a while after this heals, because it’ll be useful for heavy artillery. Similar to what I used around the time we met Shadow, just with actual support, because it was pretty uncomfortable-”
“Okay, that’s great, but, I fail to see why you’d… hide that?”
Tails’s whiskers twitch. “It’s hard to move. Meaning I can’t help with anything going on.”
“Yeah? And that sucks, but it’s not– you should’ve told me.” How long did you think you could hide that, anyways? It's not a big deal, not to be on missions, but- I mean, there's more than matters than just that."
“It's not a big deal, injuries just suck,” Tails cuts in, cutting Sonic off from any other unnecessary worry, or so he hopes. Sonic stares at him blankly. “Besides, you would’ve felt like you needed to check in a ton, and you- you’ve been itching to go and do things again. And it’s important to stop Eggman’s newer plans. I’d just have slowed you down.”
“Slowed me down.” Sonic tilts his head to the side. “I guess, from a certain kind of view, I could maybe, sort of, see that logic.” Tails almost feels relieved, before Sonic adds, “You know, if I was heartless. Which you know I’m not. So I'm serious, please tell me it's something else.”
Tails squirms under the scrutiny. He shrinks in on himself, crossing his arms tightly over himself despite the ache it causes. All the while, Sonic is still looking him over, puzzling it through. Letting Tails’s silence and inability to refute that speak for itself.
Tails sees the exact moment Sonic notices. He cringes. This was exactly what he was hoping to avoid.
Because the thing is, Sonic always hid away when he was injured or sick or dealing with too much. Sonic was all about the power of friendship, sure – but that was for Eggman. When it came to interpersonal problems, or god forbid physical weakness, Sonic was suddenly a cool loner. He’d always make some offhand comment about seeing a part of the world he hadn’t seen before (a dwindling number every day) and then they wouldn’t see him again for days, weeks, or months.
And, well.
It wouldn’t be the worst trait to pick up on. The whole world agreed that Sonic was a cool role model – the whole apartment around him agreed! Why would he be a bad role model here, too?
And if Tails was ever going to be a hero in his own right, too, well… Shouldn’t he learn to take care of himself?
“Ah,” Sonic says, eloquently. He opens his mouth, presumably for a speech, and comes up short again. He shifts a hand to his chin, clearly thinking hard.
“I think I smell something burning,” Tails says.
“Does no one trust me to do speeches anymore?”
“I honestly think you’ve gotten worse.”
Sonic levels a half-hearted glare, but the tug at the corner of his mouth tells Tails he’s not actually offended. Sonic reaches for his bangs, half-heartedly ruffles them. “Yeah. That’s why I’m trying to take my time and think this one through.”
Tails doesn’t duck away from the affection. But he can’t help but shrink into himself, just a little. Not in a bad way – but he hasn’t felt shy in ages. He feels like a kid again, which is exactly what he was trying to avoid.
Sonic must pick up on it, because he frowns a little. Then, punches Tails’s shoulder, light enough not to jostle his back. “Growing up doesn’t mean not leaning on your friends anymore,” he finally says. “We’ll always be around. You know that, right?”
Tails has a lot he could say to that – about being around.
He wisely keeps his mouth shut.
Sonic reads into it, sighs despite himself. Of course Tails should’ve guessed it was written on his face. They’d managed years without words. “Okay, yeah, but that’s an extreme circumstance – and you could’ve… should’ve had our friends around,” he says. “If I had actually kicked the bucket – that’s what I would’ve wanted. Our friends looking out for you.”
The unfairness of it all burns. “It's not an extreme circumstance when you already almost died again.”
Sonic rakes a hand back through his quills. “I really have gotten worse at speeches,” he mutters. “I don’t know. I’ve always been like this, though, keeping... issues to myself – but you haven’t.”
On account of being four years old, Tails chooses not to point out.
“Yes, okay, don’t look at me like that, I know you were a kid and kids need help and that’s okay! Good, even! But I always thought it was nice you didn’t get mad when I did stuff for you, even when you got older.”
Tails scuffs his goes against the floor again. “Because you like doing nice things for other people.”
“Sure,” Sonic agrees. “But it’s not like… -I always chose to look after you. Could’ve stopped whenever. Vanilla offered, sometimes. But I didn’t even let Knuckles babysit you unless it was like, an emergency-emergency.”
Tails’s face feels hot at the mere idea of being babysat at all. Impossible standards, he knows, for being four.
“I didn’t think you even minded being looked after, since we were always friends, not just… you know.” The word that doesn’t exist, Tails thinks, for their exact kinship. Siblings is closest, but there’s both more and less there, that the word doesn’t always fit. It's a puzzle piece that only mostly matches. “But then you were getting so good at things that had nothing to do with anything I taught you. Doing your own thing, being your own you,” Sonic continues. “...I guess I just never thought you’d take after me so much. I'm surprised, that's all.”
Tails ducks his head. The shirt is in his field of vision though, and it strikes him as the most absurd thing about all of this. Having a heart-to-heart, after all these years, in a room absolutely suffocated in Sonic merchandise.
Tails clearly isn’t the only one with a hero worship problem. The whole world seems to agree that Sonic's a role model.
He can’t quite find the words to say, ‘How could I have possibly taken after everyone else?’
“You’re giving yourself a lot of credit,” Tails says, managing a small smile, despite everything. “...Deserved credit, but still.”
He jerks a thumb over his shoulder, where he knows a gigantic Sonic head plush (six feet tall and just as wide) is looming. A gift from Vector.
“Saying I’ve got a big head?”
“I think they actually made it to scale,” Tails says with a grin. “But the important thing is… You don't need to think it's all you. You said it yourself, that I have all my own good traits. So I can’t let you act all guilty for my bad traits. Maybe I would’ve been like this anyways, who knows. But you don’t need to take credit, okay?”
Sonic blinks at him.
“I’m growing up. And maybe I didn’t need to hide away, or at least I could’ve told you where I was going,” Tails acknowledges. “But those are my mistakes to make. Okay? Not your responsibility.”
Sonic still looks surprised. But he seems to chew on that, still deciding whether or not to agree.
But Tails is older now. About as old as Sonic was when he set out against Eggman.
It’s only fair to give him a little leeway, right?
So Sonic finally nods, still looking contemplative. “Just remember you’re not on your own,” he says. “You’ve got your own thing to figure out – I respect that. But I don’t want you to forget that we’re here because we actually care. What I was saying earlier… the thing is, we’re your friends. It’s not babysitting or looking after you anymore. Even then, we liked you and wanted you around. But now? You’re with us because you’ve got skills, and we want you there. I want you there. So remember that, okay?”
Tails’s chest feels warm. Pride, he thinks. The pride of knowing he’s made Sonic proud.
“Okay,” he says, feeling a little more confident.
Sonic smiles, lopsided. The same smile on most of the trademarked merchandise around them.
It’s such a perfect match for the poster behind him that Tails has to suppress a laugh.
“What?” Sonic asks, turning to follow Tails’s eyes. “What’s- Oh, very funny. I can't help that that's my good side. I'm not even doing the thumbs up!”
Tails grins, but there’s no malice behind it. “Thanks for coming here to check on me,” he says sincerely. “I’m okay though, just sorry for worrying you.”
Sonic ruffles his bangs again. “You’re never going to have to be sorry for worrying me,” he promises. “I’d miss it too much if I stopped.”
An hour ago, Tails would’ve felt worse, hearing that. But it doesn’t sting. Sonic can both worry about him, and know that he’s growing up and can make his own choices.
“C’mon,” Sonic says, officially ending the heart-to-heart. “I put some sonic-shaped cereal in here the other day when I saw it in a store. Five rings says it turns my tongue blue?”
“You’re on,” Tails agrees, knowing it’s a losing bet.

Trolls - Accidental Knight and the Time Travel Bodyswap
okay I'm on moble. So apologies in advance.
I recently found a fic on Ao3 about brozone swapping bodies with their younger-selves (specifically during the split up fight) with what I'm guessing is their post TBT selves. I link it when I have the time.
Here's my taken on this awesome concept. In the Field of Forgetmenots AU! Highly recommend looking at the posts for this au before reading on ward. You have been warned.
The plot starts with Floyd's POV. He's in the background of his brothers fighting after Branch's first show. Part of him wants to intervene but at this point he knows it will do nothing. He sees little Bitty standing off the side looking terrified, as he walks over to comfort the young trolling, his vision twists and blacks out. He comes too with a dirt ceiling overhead, with a numb body. He thinks he's been drugged by a crazed fan then kidnapped, and tries to get off the bed he's on only to fall to the floor when his limbs begin to burn with pain. He's found by a green trolling with blue hair and eyes, and he struggles on floor finally seeing the paleness of his limbs and paralyses he feels. A scarred dulled troll comes in. It takes a moment of his fussing for Floyd to realize that he's staring at his grown up baby brother. His grown up baby brother who lifts him with ease and sets him on the bed while checking over his body.
Branch was worried when Keith came running in saying that Floyd fell. The Knight had taken in his older brother (plus Clay) to help Floyd recover from the damage the diamond bottle did to him. Its been a few months and sadly Floyd is still weak and adjusting to the after effects. He can't walk, unable to keep himself warm, and has flare ups when his body re-crystalizes, that for all they know could be fatal. Not to mention, all the psychological damage the kidnapping did, and Floyd insisting that he's fine when he's really not. Needless to say, when Keith comes to tell Branch that Floyd is on the floor panicking, he reacts with urgency. The knight drops what he's doing (making breakfast), and rushes to tend to his brother he runs through all the checks, Flare up? Nope. Nightmare? Doesn't seem like it. He doesn't feel any injuries. However, Branch is extremely concerned when Floyd starts talking like he's confused about the date and how big Branch got. He makes a plan to take Floyd to the hospital to get checked out.
Let's switch gears over to Clay. He's first in heated fight with John and Spruce when his world becomes fuzzy and suddenly he's waking up with his face on top of a work desk. He jerks up, finding himself in an office. A boring office. A troll walks in, calls him "Mr. Clay" says their his assistant and ask if he's okay before telling him about Branch taking Floyd to to hospital so he might need to pick up Keith from school that day, then they leave. Clay is left with many many questions, but it's okay on top of sad books he's read many mystery novels he's fully prepared to handle this. If this was his office it had to have a calendar. He is not pleased to find the date is over twenty years passed what it was a few minutes ago. Then everything that the assistant mentioned settled. Floyd was in the hospital?! Branch had to take him? Branch could take him? And who the heck was Keith?! Why was Clay picking him up from school?! During this spiral, Who of all trolls walks in but Princess Viva (or Captain Viva as he would later learn she was called). Clay asks why she's here, and he learns that Viva heard about Floyd and thought to check in on her Boyfriend. That was not the answer Clay was expecting.
Flipping back to Floyd. Hospitals already freak him out, and now he apparently had a chronic condition, that doctors still weren't sure how it works. Even worse he can see how worried Branch is over this. As such he just doesn't mention the Time travel/amnesia thing going on. Last thing he needs is to stress it baby brother out, especially since it's obvious that Branch had been taking care of Floyd since the diagnoses that he can't remember. On top of taking care of a kid no doubt. Even if Floyd isn't sure how Keith is related to them (He doesn't call Branch dad or Floyd uncle, and doing the math it would mean that Branch would have to have had Keith while he was a teenager), it's clear that Branch is raising that kid. Branch's girlfriend (doesn't that just bring many colorful images to mind) meets them at the hospital. She takes over, calming Branch down easily, and talking to the doctors, who much too everyone's relief nothing physical has changed since Floyd's last appointment. Branch has to leave for work after that, but Poppy takes Floyd back to the hideout he suddenly lives in.
Clay is left reeling, through out the day he's trying to learn all about this modern day. He'd completely forgotten about needing to collect a trolling from the school until his assistant mentions it. He runs out of the admin building looking for the school. It took a nearly twenty minutes to figure out where the school was, and by the time he arrived the teachers were getting ready to look for either him or Branch. He apologize profusely, but thankfully the head teacher assumes his questionable behavior was due to Floyd being hospitalized. Then Clay is saddled with Keith, a little Green and blue trolling that the teacher calls his brother. Clay doesn't really know where Keith came from (he thought his parents were dead), but doesn't question it out loud. He's been a big brother before he can totally take this kid home...if he knew where his new home was. No one was living with grandma now, clearly. Thankfully, Keith knows the way. Clay tries to make conversation, but Keith only really either stares blankly or looked slightly confused. Geez, didn't that make Clay feel good about his relationship with this new youngest brother. Did he ever spend time with this kid?
They arrive at the bunker, finding Poppy and Floyd inside. Keith lights up as Poppy running over and beginning to tell her about his day. Clay however, doesn't pay much attention to this red-headed version of Viva, rather he hones in on his younger brother who's in a wheelchair and looks on the brink of death. Clay demands to know what happened, while Floyd tries to deflect saying weird dream. Clay knows he's lying right away. Thankfully Poppy has pulled Keith into the kitchen to start on dinner and homework. Clay comes clean about not remembering any of the passed 20 years, Floyd breaths a sigh of relief know that it isn't his sickness that caused the memory loss.
Clay: Do you know the kind of day I had? I'm a CPA! twenty years down the line and I'm a CPA, John would hate that! It's a boring job. But I love it. and I'm dating the crown princess apparently.
Floyd: You thought your day was weird? I can't walk Clay. I've been questioning my own sanity since i woke up. Because I have a TBI and could lose my mind any second.
Clay: TBI? How'd you get a TBI?
Floyd: I don't remember. Poppy and Branch have been tip-toeing around me having some sort of accident. But they won't tell me what. and I'm scared to ask because it would make me look crazy!
Branch would come home at that point. They both are surprised by the Forest Guardian Armor, and Clay even more freaked out seeing the scars, muted colors, and blinded eye that Branch was sporting now. Keith is over joyed and greets Branch warmly. It's obvious these two are close in ways that this grown up Branch isn't with his older brothers. Dinner is served but it doesn't comfort the elder two brothers.
Why don't we check in on Vacay Island for a second. Spruce one moment was fighting with john and the next wakes up one morning next to a Giant yellow woman, who claims to be his wife. Brandy immediately figures out her husband doesn't remember the last twenty years. She explains everything to him using family photos to prove everything. Spruce is lost in confusion, as he listens he had no choice but to believe her, he certainly wasn't in his teenaged body anymore. It hurts to learn that the last night he remembered was the night his family broke apart, and only after 20 years was his brothers comfortable enough to reconnect. Then Brandy mentions that Floyd was kidnapped....suddenly Spruce, or Bruce as Brandy tells him he goes by, needs to see his little brothers. Make sure that their all okay. Brandy agrees and he wonders how on earth his heartthrobness managed to charm his goddess among mortals.
And finally let's get to the eldest. John was in his grandmother's pod, terrified and angry, then he was waking up in a transportation critter in the woods. In the mirror his older self stares back, and he's scared all over again. Time has passed but he doesn't know why or how. Thankfully he finds the journals his older self kept. He spends the day learning what had happened over the passed 20 years. He breakdown when he reads the entry talking about the empty destroyed tree. Only to relax when he reads about the reunion and freeing Floyd.
Rhonda has been watching all of this and sneses something wrong with her owner, against his will she drives strait to troll village.
Once both him and Bruce arrive at the same time and end up explaining that both have the same memory loss. Shockley learning that both Clay and Floyd are the same. Grown up Branch is weird and it hurts to learn where the main scar came from. Floyd is horrifying to his older brothers, they just want to bundle him up and never let anyone touch him. they all talk in Floyd's room about what they need to to do to get their memories back...none of them notice Keith is listening from behind the cracked door.
Branch confronts them at dinner that night. It isn't pretty. Branch is not going to put up with the "We're trying to protect you" routine. And to their shock, takes charge of the room, saying that he and them already had that fight about that topic, and how he doesn't need them anymore. He had Poppy and Keith, and the only reason that Floyd is staying here because branch knows he can't take care of himself. He'll help them, but he won't tolerate arguing. they need to settle their teenaged issues with each other. Because if Keith has to deal with their fights like Branch had to endure, he'd kick them all out.
I'm not sure about how the ending would work yet, but all the brothers would be brought back to the moment they left. And vowed to stay together as a family. In one time line, Branch would have the brothers he deserved.

Kyoko time! Also, keep in mind, spoilers ahead ^v^
Tumblr media
For her first outfit, the casual attire, it's nothing too crazy. Feel she'd still be rocking those boots as she's older. Kyoko just gives me boot energy after all. I like to think she's got strong legs and can kick fairly well, her boots adding to that strength. At the same time though, I just feel she just really enjoys wearing boots. Maybe it's that extra height or the very chunky look they have. Whatever the case though, she's a woman who's not giving up those boots. Additionally, I'll be honest. Most of the choices I made for her casual attire are entirely off of vibes. For instance, I feel she'd still be a skirt gal which is why she has a skirt here. This also applies to the bow on the back of her hair and the braids. How I interpret Kyoko is that she's not one to wear overly girly accessories that are very bright, loud, and vibrant. However, she still enjoys the subtle show of her femininity and feeling pretty! Thus, the braids and the black bow stay! They're just moved to the back of the head instead of one side. As for her work attire, for one, she's still doing detective work in my au, perhaps helping Makoto on the side since they're both roommates in the same apartment. I also decided to give her pants for her work attire, not because she couldn't do it with a skirt. This is Kyoko after all! She'd be able to manage. Feel with age though, Kyoko would be less likely to prioritize her style and instead goes for practicality for work. She has more of a social life now anyway so she can let her style shine and be as pretty as she wants then. Oh, and before I forget, she's got an eyepatch too! I left it open for interpretation in regards on what exactly happened. For those who mostly ignore the anime's addition to the canon, it can just be that she got the injury during a case. For those who like aspects of the anime though, the scar on her face is from that time she almost died. With how the poison dispersed, I like giving her this scar to show that effect! Plus, if they were going to do a fake out death and not just kill her off, at LEAST give it some impact by having her be physically scarred! That's my 2 cents here though!
Tumblr media
As for physical features, I drew her a bit more stocky here, still very much a feminine shape though stronger as well. After all, she's still fairly active though it's not like she's jacked or anything either. I don't think she'd lean to wanting a more muscled appearance. Not to say she couldn't kick ass! Her legs have a bit of toned muscle to them and her arms do as well. It's all subtle though! Moreover, I like to think though that Kyoko's in a good balance from how she treated detective work back then though. Though she'd still do some risks for solving a case, she's less likely to throw her entire life in jeopardy. She's ensuring she's eating properly, treating her body well. Thus, the pear shape of her body is showing a bit more here as well as the fact that she's a grown woman. I also thought it'd be cute that, no matter if Makoto or Kyoko ever become parents, they are destined to have mom and dad bods, even if it's subtle. Additionally, with her age, life experience, and all that she's gone through in her life along with the others, she is much more willing to accept aid. Perhaps during her time working on case work at home, she gets some input from Makoto since they're living together and she also generally respects Makoto's thoughts and opinions. Some other aspects of her physical appearance I wish to mention here is her hair. I honed in a bit more on that practical feeling for her by having it shorter but still expressing her femininity. She's also wearing Makoto's boxers here as well. Just wanted to drop that tidbit in there as well >:]
Tumblr media
For the most part, I can say I'm fairly happy with how she's turned out! A good mix of what makes Kyoko who she is with a mix of my own flairs! More to come soon! (1) | (3)

I Didn’t Mean to Say I Do, but I Do. I Do. 14
Chapter 14 out of 50
Secret marriage of convenience buddie slow burn AU, where Buck and Eddie have been married for years so Buck could adopt Chris and no one at the 118 knows.
In this chapter, Buck realizes that their scheme might be harder than expected and, in a moment of panic, he starts a fake rivalry with Eddie. The two of them are forced to play it out and figure out a way to get it over with to cement Eddie’s place at the 118.
On AO3.
Ships: Buddie (slow burn)
Warnings: internalized homophobia, insecurity, injury
~~~
Chapter 14: Second First Meeting
Buck arrives to the station already in uniform, he spots Eddie in the locker room changing into his own uniform and is dying to go over there and check in on him. However, he has already changed, so it’ll be weird to just go over.
Or maybe it wouldn’t be weird, Buck is a social person, he’d want to know the new face. But maybe that’s too familiar, which is what they’re trying to avoid.
Before he can make a decision, the choice is taken from him by Hen and Bobby who greet him as he comes near them. They’re standing in the path towards the locker room and Buck is embarrassed to admit he didn’t notice them until they start speaking.
Suddenly feeling the need to do something in character, he starts rambling about body fat. He wanted to submit to the calender, because it sounded fun and he likes his body, is proud of it. Plus, it’s for charity. Then he got a little carried away into a rabbit hole about it. It hasn’t been effecting the meals he’s cooking at home, but he’s been putting in more time at the gym.
That devolves into a whole other conversation, until Chimney suddenly derails it. “Okay, that, is a beautiful man.”
“Where’s the lie. And I like girls,” Hen agrees, looking over Buck’s shoulder to where he knows Eddie is.
Buck turns around too, because knowing who is there already is suspicious. He spots Eddie puling on a shirt and aches to agree with Chimney and Hen, it wouldn’t be weird, they were already talking about attractive men and even Hen agrees that Eddie is beautiful. However, admitting that feels like admitting he’s in love with Eddie and he doesn’t want anyone to know about that. Ever.
So he looks at Eddie, who is looking very attractive and very much in cahoots with him and he wants them to be even more in cahoots, scheming, whatever. But he can’t. Everyone will know something is up if he agrees Eddie’s attractive. It’s irrational, but his brain doesn’t register that. All he knows is that he needs to do the opposite of that, so he says: “Who the hell is that?”
“That’s Eddie Diaz, new recruit. Graduated top of his class just this week. Guys over at station 6 were dying to have him, but I convinced him to join us,” Bobby tells him, because of course he does, he has no reason to think that is Buck’s husband he’s talking about. Why would he? That was the whole point.
Noting that the deflection worked, Buck decides that this is permanently the best course of action for now. “What do we need him for?”
They all laugh at him and that doesn’t feel great, even if it’s my his own design, because he’s acting stupid on purpose. And when Bobby starts telling him about Eddie’s accomplishments, he wants to bite that he knows that, thank you, he raised his child while he was on said tours and nursed him back to health after the stunt that earned him a Silver Star. But he manages to bite his tongue.
He can just back out now, go follow after everyone and have an amicable interaction with Eddie, before smoothly diving into team work. It’s sensible, but a part of his brain feels like he’ll give the game away, so he follows after the others with a bit of a frown on his face.
When Eddie sees him, he raises his brows slightly, asking what the face is all about. As the others look somewhere else, Buck drops it for a second for something more apologetic.
“Eddie, this is Buck,” Bobby says. “Buck this is Eddie. He’ll be your partner in the field from now on, I expect you to keep him in the loop.”
“Yes, Cap,” Buck nods, before looking at Eddie without saying a thing.
Luckily, Eddie seems to pick up what he’s putting down and in a more polite tone than he had greeted the others with he says: “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Likewise,” Buck says, a word he has never said before, but felt correct in the moment. Though, right now his correct feels kind of dumb, but he’s in too deep now. They’re both in too deep.
Everyone is just looking between them, picking up on the tension. If Buck is honest, his own tension is not so much Eddie as it is everyone else. He is a horrible liar and he doesn’t know why he ever agreed to this and now he started something and he doesn’t know how to get out of it and he’s sure it’s written all over his face.
However, before he can spiral further, he is saved by the bell, all of them quickly getting into their gear as they go to their first call of the day.
That is good. Being on a call is good. He knows what to do on calls, he likes being on them, talking with people, helping them. It’ll be good to get out of his own head about the whole charade, scheme, cahoots thing they have going on.
There is only one problem with this, usually Eddie isn’t on calls with them and Buck is only now realizing that Eddie looks super hot in that uniform and he’s even more hot when he’s being competent. Which makes getting his mind off Eddie really fucking hard.
Of course his focus is all on the patient when they lift him off the pump and onto the ground, but then Chim. Hen and Eddie are working on him and he can observe them. Mostly Eddie though.
Buck is a little offended that Eddie gets picked over him to help, but then again Eddie was an army medic and he just has EMT training. Plus, he’s a little distracted by Eddie’s Eddie-ness, so maybe it’s best for him to be on the side.
Then Bobby’s voice snaps him into action: “Buck I need you to get a 14-gauge angiocath. We need to start decompressing the pleural cavity.”
“Alright, alright,” Buck says more to himself as he gets everything and starts working on the patient.
“Want me to help?” Eddie offers, which isn’t unusual.
“I got it,” Buck assures him, not wasting more words, but Eddie gets it. They can communicate with minimal words, even if it might sound curt to others. He wants to focus on the patient, Eddie understands. “Hang in there, Hector,” he tells the man.
He goes to insert the gauge when Eddie’s voice stops him. “I’d go lower.”
“What?” Buck is so sure he remembers right, checking his own mental catalog again and finding what he’s doing there. Confused he says: “Uhm, no. Second intercostal space. Midclavicular line.” Eddie should know this.
“The chest wall is thinner at the fifth intercostal at the anterior axillary line. There’s a decreased chance of injuring any vital organs. I’ve treated guys with collapsed lungs in combat,” Eddie explains.
Buck is willing to believe him, but with his qualifications, he’s not sure he just wants to do something outside of the book. If this goes south, it’s his ass on the line. So, he looks at Bobby, letting him make the call.
“Do it,” Bobby confirms.
“Please,” Eddie says, holding out his hand to take the gauge from Buck. And Buck hands it to him, getting a: “Thank you.”
It’s a little cute that Eddie’s being polite in the middle of an emergency like that and not entirely like him, especially not with Buck. However, he must still be a little nervous too, wanting to put his best foot forward. Buck can’t help but be fond, however, he remembers himself on time so the snort he’s already letting out on time sounds a bit harsher than it should be.
“Can you help me out with the shirt?” Eddie asks and Buck knows he could do it by himself, he just knows Buck too well to leave him idle like that on a day like this. So he rolls his eyes as he goes to help, suppressing a smile.
Eddie gets the gauge in and Hector deflates as they’d hoped, coming to and becoming more stable so they can transport him. And like that, Eddie has survived his first call and very successfully Buck might add, the others even take time to point it out.
“Yeah, good call,” Buck also says, much like the others. He does it very seriously, giving Eddie a magnanimous nod as he does so, playing up the approving elder vibes.
As expected, Eddie gives him a deadpan look – though Buck can see the amusement in his eyes – and doesn’t reply beyond that, just getting back in the engine with everyone else.
Buck is happy to have Eddie there and working with him on a call went well, smooth. Having the two of them at the same house was the right call. It’s nice to click that well with somewhere out there instead of having to get used to someone new every shift.
However, being back from the call means having to be in the firehouse without acting weird around Eddie. Buck still isn’t sure how to do that. He took the ‘I need to warm up’-route, which he is starting to regret, but he’s in it now.
So, he flees to the work out section when he can. He can’t be weird with anyone if he’s working out and it will help getting the jitters out.
Eddie joins him soon after, back towards him as he softly asks: “What are you doing?”
“I panicked,” Buck hisses back.
“And that was your solution?”
“Well, I had to do something, what did you want me to do? Be besotted with you?”
“I didn’t expect you to have a problem with me!” Eddie says, a little louder than all the other things they’ve said so far, as he turns to face Buck.
Before Buck can answer or they can lower the conversation again, they spot Chimney, who has come up to work out as well and who totally caught what Eddie just said. Fuck. They both give each other a caught look, before Eddie goes all in, raising his voice more as he says: “So, what’s your problem, man?”
“What’s my problem?” Buck repeats, giving himself time to attempt to come up with something, before blurting out: “You. You’re my problem.” Eddie sends him a ‘what the fuck, dude’-look and Buck flashes a helpless look back, he also doesn’t know why he said that, but it seemed the most logical at the time.
“Why?” Eddie asks, making him realize that Chimney is still watching their argument and he should probably have a reason for saying that Eddie is his problem.
“You’re too familiar,” is what he finds himself saying, before he can think it through. Though once he says it, he can’t regret it. It makes sense. It’s not a lie and it will deflect any weird closeness they have by acknowledging it.
“What?” Eddie chokes and it might sound disbelieving or offended, but Buck can see the amusement twinkling in his eyes. The fucker is enjoying Buck digging himself into a hole.
As the whole day has been; in for a penny, in for a pound. “You heard me. You’re too familiar, there is supposed to be an adjustment period, but you just waltz in here like you know everyone a bit already. It’s weird that you fit in like that.” Now he has to stop himself, but it turns into a love confession about how well Eddie fits everywhere.
“Look, I in no way meant to be too familiar or step on anyone’s toes. I hear you’re a good guy,” he says, his eyes doing a little amused sparkle that makes Buck roll his eyes. “I’m sorry I got too familiar. I’ll give you some space. Be unfamiliar.”
And with that Eddie has successfully ended their fake spat, gathering his things and leaving the gym area. Buck tries not to miss him as he watches him go.
“What the fuck was that?” Chimney asks, snapping Buck’s attention back to him, instead of staring after Eddie.
“I don’t know what you mean,” he huffs as he turns back to his exercise, even though he knows very well what he means.
Chimney sends him a look that tells him Chim also knows he knows. “Come on, Buck, don’t play stupid. You’re like a golden retriever, man’s best friend and all that. It’s usually impossible for you to not get along with people. What the hell did Eddie do to you? Shit in your dinner?”
Buck scowls at that, it’s not like Chimney is wrong and he knows he’s being an asshole to Eddie, even if it’s just a little bit, but Eddie is being an asshole right back, he should get also get interrogated about it.
Not that they know Eddie is being an asshole back, because he has perfected being polite and cutting, so he actually has a poker face and he went all polite and understanding in their fight, while secretly laughing at Buck the whole time. It’s so unfair.
“He just rubs me wrong,” he says in the end, before he adds: “I just need to get used to him. We worked well together out there,” because he doesn’t want Chim to think he’ll never like Eddie when he actually likes Eddie so much. A bit too much, but who’s counting.
“Hm, alright,” Chimney hums after a moment, before letting it go, an unreadable expression on his face.
Eddie and Buck mostly avoid each other for the rest of the afternoon. Eddie honestly doesn’t know what Buck was thinking, but he panicked was a pretty reasonable explanation, he supposes. Still, this is not how he imagined his first day would be like. Though, he should have guessed their plan wouldn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped.
So far Eddie loves working at the 118. He is a pretty private person and has no qualms keeping most of his life to himself, but he can’t deny that he feels comfortable with them. He can definitely see himself become work friends with Chimney and Hen, and Bobby seems like a good Captain that he’ll happily serve under.
And then there’s Buck.
Working together with Buck today has been as fun and easy as Eddie hoped. They communicate seamlessly and have an easy back and forth, Eddie doesn’t have to feel awkward getting to know a partner, having to open up to get that, he can just slide back into the friendship they already have. At least, out in the field.
Because due to Buck’s panic the two of them are now caught in some weird rivalry when they’re off the field and Eddie doesn’t really know how to get out of it or what to do with it.
They’ll need some sort of story if they want to move on and be friends, but that might take time if they have to play it out all the way through. Bobby will probably remove Eddie before then, since he’s been hired to be Buck’s partner. Or they’ll come clean and clear it up that way, but that will still result in Eddie getting moved, just with way more embarrassment.
It isn’t that he is embarrassed of Buck or like homophobic about it. Gay people can do whatever they want, it’s not his business and he knows that he is technically gay married, even though they’re both straight. People have assumed often enough, he doesn’t mind. But the thought of having to explain it all to the 118? To have to lay bare his failures as a parent that led him to depend on Buck and drag him down with him, when it’s clear they all love him? It’s terrifying.
Eddie should request a transfer instead, say he doesn’t mind working with Buck and that he likes the 118 a lot, but that it will be better for him to join the B shift, instead of being Buck’s direct partner. They tried the ruse, it’s not working out, it’ll be for the best.
He has all but made up his mind, ready to bring it up to Buck when they get home for tonight so he can approach Bobby next shift when the alarm rings and they all make a break for the rig.
They all have their spots in the rig. Buck told him all about that first day where he sat in Hen’s spot, shuddering as he relived it. So, Eddie remembered Buck telling him where everyone sat, so he wouldn’t do that himself.
Eddie’s spot is across from Buck.
Neither of them know what to do with that.
Luckily, the call itself is a distraction from the awkward ride, because some dumbass got a grenade stuck in his leg. Yes, a grenade. You don’t see that every day, even when you’re an army medic, Eddie should know.
Buck and Bobby go in while Eddie goes to the ambulance. He wants to go in with them, it feels weird to leave Buck alone like that, especially when there’s an explosive involved. He hates their plan a lot right now, he’s sure Bobby would have send the two of them if they hadn’t been fighting earlier.
The decision he made earlier to quit this shift sits wrongly in his bones as he watches Buck disappear into the house, his shoulders tensed for an explosion as he readies the ambulance.
However, Bobby is already separating them, he’s probably not going to keep Eddie on this shift for long. He curses Buck’s panic and waits for the radio to crackle. Before all this, he didn’t worry about Buck when he was on shift, but now that he knows when Buck can endanger himself, he can’t stop worrying. It’s annoying.
Despite his annoyance at himself, he can’t help, but be incredibly relieved to see Buck exit the house next to the gurney.
He is also a little hopeful about getting to keep his job when Bobby forces Buck into the ambulance with him in an obvious ploy to have them get along. The man must have a lot of faith in his decision making skills and Eddie is grateful for it.
Reluctantly Buck gets in the ambulance, Eddie has to bite his lip to not laugh at the wide eyes his friend has. He is even more stressed out about their little scheme.
The drive starts off in professional silence. Johnson is still driving and neither of them really know how to act now. Buck tries to push a little about the wounds he saw in the service, he always wants Eddie to talk and Eddie wants to do anything but talk. It’s actually a bit of a spat, which sells their bit he supposes, though he glowers at the wound regardless. Only for his heart to drop.
“Pull over!”
Soon they’re all standing outside, Charlie in the ambulance slowly bleeding out while they decide if he’s safe enough to help. It’s infuriating. It shouldn’t matter. They should be helping. Eddie should be helping. He already let Greggs die and for what? Because it was too dangerous? He’s not letting that happen again. Not on his watch.
“He doesn’t have an hour,” Buck realizes as they’re talking, something Eddie is also realizing.
Suddenly he finds himself saying: “I can do it. If he doesn’t go to surgery soon, he’ll die.”
“You’ve done this before?” Bobby asks.
“Well, none of the guys I served with were dumb enough to shoot a live round in themselves, but I'm familiar with the ordnance,” Eddie says.
“I’m in,” Buck immediately pipes up, because of course he’s in. Him and Buck have always faced everything together from the moment they met, dealing with Shannon leaving, raising Chris. Even when Eddie left for war, they still dealt with the battle behind that decision – Eddie’s parents – together.
So, soon they’re in the ambulance together, working on getting the grenade out. It’s tense and both of their attention is entire on Charlie’s leg. Eddie isn’t sure he could have done it with anyone other than Buck by his side.
It’s not until they get the grenade into the box and are working on clamping the arteries so Charlie will make it to surgery that they can talk a little, finally having the privacy. Unless you want to count Charlie, but he’s now unconscious.
“I think I went a little overboard with the whole not knowing each other thing,” Buck says.
“Yeah, no shit.”
“How are we going to get out of this? I mean, we need to come up with something, right?”
“Heard you talking to Bobby before we got in,” Eddie muses. “About how he wanted us to bond and this was a way to get real close.”
“That was a joke about us exploding and becoming indistinguishable from each other as the force turned us into goop, Eddie,” Buck deadpans.
“I know that, you idiot,” Eddie rolls his eyes, placing the last clamps. “I’m just saying, they might buy it. You’re not the type to hold a grudge, they know that. This is bonding enough, right?”
Buck pulls a thoughtful face as they start to move Charlie, before he grins at Eddie: “You know what, I think they will. Good to have you aboard, probie.”
“Still not calling me probie,” Eddie shoots back, but he can’t deny that it sounds incredibly fond.
With that, both of them get out of the ambulance, pushing the gurney with Charlie on it away from the ambulance as fast as they can, before handing it over, so they can get their gear off and the robot can move in on the ambulance.
Bobby is there, so Eddie guesses this is the moment. The mock argument they had was poking fun at Buck, but this feels like a performance and he cringes at himself when he says: “You’re a badass under pressure, brother.” He has never called Buck brother before and he’s unsure why he felt the need to do so now.
“Me?” He sees Buck bite his lip to stop himself from laughing at him, then duck his head to make it bashful. Honestly the guy could be an actor.
“You can have my back any day,” Eddie says and he means it too. He always means it. He never wants anyone else to have his back.
“Yeah,” Buck agrees, then, because he’s Buck, who will be a little shit when he can be, he adds: “Or, you know, you could- you could have mine.”
Eddie laughs. “Deal.”
Their performance is a success, because Bobby looks incredibly pleased with himself as he approaches them. “Nice work, fellas. I’m glad you both made it out of there.”
“The guy’s a professional, Cap. I was never really worried,” Buck grins and Eddie’s heart floods with warmth at the genuine pride he sees in Buck’s eyes.
Luckily, he never has to investigate that feeling. Ever. Because the ambulance they were just in blows up.
It’s a little funny to see Buck and Bobby jump up at the noise and Eddie feels a little smug at their shocked and impressed faces when they turn back to him. Slightly too chipper, he grins: “You guys hungry?”
Bobby declines, but Buck enthusiastically agrees – not that Eddie expected any different when he offered – and he’s glad it’s just them so they can be just them. Though he doesn’t miss Bobbys proud look before they leave. At least they convinced him they can get along, Eddie is pretty sure he won’t be moved now.
Eddie takes Buck to a burger joint near the station. He’s maybe a little too excited about paying even though he and Buck have shared finances. It just feels good to treat Buck with money he is earning after all he’s done for him.
Once they’re seated, they clink their burgers together in a sort of toast as Buck grins: “To your first successful shift at the 118.”
“And my first paycheck,” Eddie grins back.
“Yeah, and hopefully the end of our rivalry,” Buck laughs.
“I still can’t believe you did that,” Eddie says, way too amused about it now that it’s behind them.
Buck blushes and scowls, though it’s more of a pout on him. “I was put on the spot, you haven’t experienced their nosiness first hand.”
“I did a little,” Eddie scoffs, remembering the interrogation about his Silver Star.
“That was nothing, just wait until they actually want to know something,” Buck snorts and Eddie starts to dread signing up for the 118 just a little.
After their burgers, they both get into their cars and drive by Abuela. Eddie tells her a bit about his first day, feeling like a little kid again, telling her about his first day at school. Meanwhile Buck is getting Chris, appearing moments later with the sleeping form of their kid in his arms as both Eddie and Abuela lower their voices as to not wake him.
Buck kisses Abuela on both cheeks, maneuvering gently so Chris doesn’t bump into anything, before Eddie gets the doors, saying his goodbyes, then coming to help buckle Chris in. He’ll tell him about his shift as promised over breakfast.
When they come in for their next shift – still both in different cars and at different times since Chris has to be dropped off – Hen and Chim look a little apprehensively as they run into each other at the locker room, but Buck just smiles at him and calls out: “Hey, Eddie, did you know that grenade launcher that guy shot himself with yesterday started in production in 1969 and has been in use since the 70s?”
“Oh really?” Eddie asks, as if he didn’t repeat the exact model so Buck could look it up yesterday.
“Yeah, apparently they were designed as an under barrel device,” Buck starts up a ramble about all the information he found as they make their way to the loft.
Above them Hen and Chim relax slightly when Eddie doesn’t get annoyed at Buck’s rambling and when Buck doesn’t start peacocking again. Though they look confused as well.
It’s not until the two of them dive into a pool to save a kid with a microwave cemented on his head that they truly seem to believe it.
And with that Eddie is also officially part of the 118, accepted by all its members
~~
A/N:
I know these are two shifts in the show and Maddie comes to LA in between, but I’m kind of playing with things for everything to make sense, it wouldn’t be an AU if it was a direct copy of canon xp (season 2 is where I start taking serious liberties)
WereKaiju
Here's the other idea that wouldn't leave my ass alone. Plus the spooky season is almost upon us so why not? Let's get started! Here's the next part.
A 23 year old Kafka Hibino was doing his best to get his life back together. Kaiju No. 6's monstrous rampage had utterly devastated a good chunk of Japan with his home being one such casualty. The nearest homeless shelter was obviously at max capacity and any housing is still under construction.
Kafka's day hasn't been any better either. He recently got beaten up pretty badly by a few thugs because he tried to stop them from mugging a poor old lady. (The man would still do it again despite his now broken nose, multiple bruises and probably cracked ribs.)
Overall, most of the year was awful as hell. Although his luck would only get worse when a buzzing sound awakens him from his sleep. The source being a very familiar small Kaiju we all know (with some finding it cute.)
I will say that Kafka does fight back against Tiny as he's been sleeping outside in the cold and thus wearing a scarf around his mouth to help keep warm. The small Kaiju tries to pry it off while the himbo defends himself. Now he managed to catch Tiny who yanked the scarf half way down.
Before Kafka could effectively trap the thing, the little Kaiju bites him hard. He lets go, screams, and Tiny takes that very moment to shove himself down our himbo's throat. Kafka ends up passing out as the pain of the transformation was too much for his damaged body.
When he wakes up the next day, everything is a blur. Kafka believes last night in general has been a hazy dream. The fight with the thugs and a kaiju going down his throat despite feeling strangely sore. (All his injuries obviously been healed by Tiny.)
Life goes on as the himbo is truly unaware of the monster slumbering inside. That's until the first full moon. Kafka is actually a dormant carrier of a unique condition called Hypertrichosis or Werewolf Syndrome to be precise.
It's basically when the body overproduces hair, often in localized or specific spots across the body. Why is this important? To put it simply, Tiny might have accidentally altered Kafka's dormant Hypertrichosis into something very different. A kaiju variant of lycanthropy.
Now Kafka's Kaiju operates differently than in canon. The condition of his transformation affects his overall appearance. Under sheer willpower, Kafka looks like his canon form but with a spine covered long tail. The full moon or rage results in a more monstrous version of Riot Mode.
Fur like quills growing between the armored plates, facial structure narrowing into a shape similar to a komodo dragon, fur sprouting from the back of his head/wrists/upper chest/, four dragonfly like wings, and his tail becoming similar to a pangolin but covered in spikes. Kafka acts like an oversized wolf during a Riot Mode shift. Those he considers part of his pact are met with 'giant puppy behavior'.
He scrutinizes every unfamiliar person as if waiting for them to make a move so he can act accordingly. Threats are immediately attacked with incredible ferocity so you better someone he cherishes is there to intervene. If you are guessing, Kafka's bite is infectious like any Werecreature.
Something he doesn't know until a fight makes him lose a tooth. The Defense Force analyzed and tested it on a rat to discover it's mutagenic properties. In short, a warning would be given about not getting bitten by Kaiju No. 8. Civilians are warned of deadly venom but the truth being restricted to official DF Members.
Reno tells Kafka about this ability once he officially joins. Our himbo obviously doesn't join the Defense Force. He's afraid of potentially infecting or killing someone thanks to his curse.
No.9 however is another case entirely. He WANTS No.8 for his infectious bite whether he's dead or alive. A kaiju capable of converting others is too important to ignore.
The Defense Force is more desperate to kill No.8. Such an ability could potentially end mankind itself if left unchecked. Kafka is gonna have a harder time avoiding the Defense Force.
Not just because of his scheduled shifts but also No.9 sending in kaiju to hunt him down. The Defense Force is slowly growing suspicious about these localized attacks as one Soshiro Hoshina notices a common denominator amongst each incident. A certain himbo Monster Sweeper at each scene.
He's going to be busted eventually. Although whether he turns inside an interrogation cell or in front of his childhood friend remains unknown. (Or lover if a pairing is involved like childhood sweethearts/married for a few years type. Kafka will get his needed hugs either way.)
For now, please enjoy another song that came to mind when writing these ideas: Monster By Skillet. Also if anyone wants to do their own take on the concept then go ahead! I don't mind plus there probably will be a more in-depth look sometime in the future.
Basilisk!
I based it off of the Cockatrice... which is a freaking CR 3 creature with a singular 1d4-3 attack for Lamashtu-knows-why. It's not really similar enough to be a variant like with other creatures I've done. But it is heavily based off of the creature. Still probably horrible CR estimations for these creatures. PF1e CRs are bullshit anyways.
CR 5 Basilisk (Dunmeshi) XP 800 N Large animal Init +3; Senses blindsight, Perception +10
DEFENSE
AC 13, touch 13, flat-footed 10 (+3 Dex, +1 dodge, -1 size) hp 22 (5d8) Fort +4, Ref +7, Will +2
OFFENSE
Speed 30 ft., fly 60 ft. (poor) Melee bite +7 (1d4 plus poison), peck +7 (1d4), spur +7 (1d4 plus poison) Space 10ft., Reach 5ft.
STATISTICS
Str 10, Dex 17, Con 11, Int 2, Wis 13, Cha 8 Base Atk +3; CMB +2; CMD 16 Feats Dodge, Skill Focus (Perception), Weapon Finesse Skills Fly +6, Perception +10
SPECIAL ATTACK
Poison (Ex)
Bite—injury; save Fort DC 12; frequency 1/round for 3 rounds; effect 1d4 Dex Damage; cure 1 save Unlike normal poisons that cause ability score damage, a basilisk's poison is potent enough to actually kill, provided it reduces the effective ability score to 0. It, however, causes effects that are as easy to clear with any means, natural or otherwise, to clear the ability damage. Note: this does not petrify the creature.
EDIT: @onehobgoblin again helped, was tired when I wrote this one up. Yeah this CR is definitely higher.
EDIT 2: FORGOT BLINDSIGHT! It also might need all-around vision? (i.e. can't be flanked). Add it if you wish, it has two heads, it makes sense to add it.
You Are My Sunshine
Chapter 1 of my new QSMP borrower AU. Also posted on AO3. Next Part.
TWs: Fear of death, blood and injuries, a scary owl. 3.6k words.
Tubbo never seemed to learn his lesson when it came to trusting humans. Yet there he was, fleeing yet another home. This time though, he had a child with him. Yeah, he adopted a child. Considering he was still *kind of* a kid himself, maybe it wasn't the greatest idea, but it was too late for that now, they were inseparable like glue. Now it was Tubbo and Sunny against the world! Plus she shared his love for coffee! When he was her age, he wasn't allowed coffee, so Tubbo was *pretty sure* he was doing a fine job.
Hopefully this new house wouldn't have such weird and nosy humans.
Thunder rumbled in the dusk coloured sky overhead, followed by smaller cracks and flashes of bright light as it stormed. It was spring, the season of heavy rain and occasionally snow; also known as the perfect formula for hypo-fucking-thermia. Tubbo grimaced as the rain continued to beat down on them mercilessly, another heavy drop of freezing cold water crashing down on his head as he and Sunny trudged through a muddy forest of unkempt grass blades. It would be night soon. The sun was setting already, which meant the temperature would be dropping further and dangerous predators would be out hunting.
“Sunny, remember what I said? Stick close to me so we can share the umbrella,” he chattered out and Sunny nodded, squeezing his hand tighter.
All things considered, the leaf they were using as an umbrella wasn’t very effective. They were both drenched, covered in mud and dirt. Tubbo had tried to keep her out of the mud when it first started raining, but he couldn’t carry her and the bags. He cursed under his breath, squinting up at the darkening sky. It was just not their lucky day. Correction; not their lucky week.
They had to move on short notice; in the middle of the night, which then led to walking all day. Humans travelled much faster than borrowers could and Tubbo wanted to put as much distance between them and their previous ‘house mate’. For hours they trekked through forests of overgrown grass, across plateaus of dirt and brick. Along shores of large ponds and watering holes. He was certain that by now, they must’ve travelled at least a ‘city block’ as the humans called them.
It should be far enough. He hoped it was far enough. His legs ached and his feet were numb with cold. Tubbo wasn’t sure if it was his own exhaustion, or the rain weighing them down, but the bags felt so much heavier.
He paused as he felt a tug on his hand. Sunny had stopped and dropped the leaf-umbrella, a strained wheeze escaping her as she clutched her chest.
“Sunny?” Tubbo dropped the bags and crouched down in front of her, putting his hands on her shoulders. “Are you okay?”
Sunny tried to nod as she coughed dryly, a pained look on her face. The poor girl had lung problems. Tubbo was pretty sure it was called asthma. It couldn’t be cured as far as he knew. He did everything he could; taught her calming breathing exercises and upon hearing that coffee supposedly could help, he started making it more often. However he wasn’t exactly sure how accurate that information was, considering its source was Pierre. Though he did quickly learn that Sunny shouldn’t have more than one cup a day or else she would be bouncing off the walls for hours. Sometimes it got really bad though, especially in the spring and all he could really do was hold her hand.
“Just stay calm princess, you’ve got this. If it hurts you can squeeze my hand, okay?” he whispered calmly, taking her hand gently.
Sunny nodded again and squeezed his hand tight. She had described the feeling to him before.
‘I feel all tight and like the air is being squeezed out of me.’ she had explained.
“Try and pretend you’re smelling some tulips, or maybe some coffee? Take a nice deep breath,” Tubbo said quietly, giving her the most reassuring smile he could muster.
A few minutes later, Sunny was able to reign it in again, but it felt like hours. Sitting there in the chilly air, getting battered by raindrops as he held his daughter’s hands. Unfortunately the rain didn’t set with the sun and as a bolt of lightning shattered the velvety sky, both borrowers jumped in fright.
“Pa…” Sunny tugged on his hand, frowning up at the sky as thunder rumbled loudly overhead. “Can we please stop here? I’m tired… and it’s really muddy and dirty.”
The smaller borrower kicked at the dirt with her muddy boots, a foul look on her face. Sunny wasn’t a typical child. While most borrowers her age would love to be playing in the dirt and enjoying the outdoors, Sunny would rather stay inside and count her collection of bits and bobs. Tubbo didn’t mind though. It brought him peace of mind to know Sunny was safe at home, waiting for him to bring her back whatever shiny new trinket he’d come across on his latest borrowing trip.
“I know Suns, I know,” he looked around, squinting past the tall grass blades around them.
They were about halfway across a particularly overgrown backyard. The house it belonged to stood tall in the distance. From what Tubbo could see it did have a back porch, standing on sleek, dark wooden beams, with a grate of sorts that wrapped all the way around. It would be the perfect place to make camp for the night.
“This umbrella sucks,” the small girl huffed, motioning to the leaf they were using. “I miss my parasol.”
Tubbo sighed. Regrettably, they had left it behind and he didn’t have the heart to tell her that it would’ve been useless anyway. Being made of paper, it would’ve been ruined in a few minutes of being out in the rain.
“Well maybe I can find you another one once it’s warmer out. I think the humans like to put them in their fancy… erm, barbeque drinks,” he gave her the most cheerful smile he could muster in the moment.
“Can you make it shiny pa?” Sunny asked with a hopeful smile.
Clearly she was in a much better mood already when it came to being promised new things. Tubbo felt a small weight lift off his shoulders at the sight of Sunny's smile. The weather was gloomy enough as it was, they didn't need either of them bringing the mood down any further.
“I guess I could reinforce it with some aluminium?” Tubbo smiled back at her, but it was a mask to hide his own gloom.
He had left behind… well, just about everything. His workshop, his machines and inventions, his materials. It would take years to rebuild both the workshop and his collection, assuming their new home would even have what he needed. Tubbo didn’t think human engineers were very common, and certainly not living on the same street. Disclaimer; he had no evidence to back that up, it was just a hunch . Honestly they'd be lucky to even find an abandoned borrowers’ hovel, let alone an available home with a proper forge setup.
“Oh…” Sunny visibly deflated, pouting at the ground as they trudged through the squelchy mud.
It felt like a punch to the gut.
“Poppetttttttttttttt… please don't make that face. It can't be helped for now, I'm sorry,’” Tubbo drawled out.
Squinting through the downpour, Tubbo could see they were almost to the human house which this yard belonged to. The structure was impossibly large, its rooftop easily grazing the skies as it towered over the small borrowers. The grass was getting thinner as they got closer to the building. Instead, large, flat stones were embedded into the dirt. Weeds were fighting to break through the cracks, between the tiles and several puddles of water turned the path into some kind of stoney bog.
They were so close to the porch now; all they had to do was cross the stone terrace. The whole thing made Tubbo nervous. Something in the back of his mind told him that if something bad was going to happen on this trip, it should happen sometime around now. There was almost no cover on the stone plateau, save for a few overgrown dandelions and upturned stone bricks, but he would hardly call that cover. If any birds spotted them, it would be so joever.
“Welp, up we go Suns,” Tubbo hauled himself up onto the stone, his muscles aching and sore from exhaustion.
 “Pa, can we have avocado soup for dinner?” she asked as Tubbo reached down and pulled her up too.
“Sure…” he replied quietly, taking her hand as they began crossing the stone terrace.
In all honesty, he really just wanted to get to sleep. Unfortunately that's just what parenting was, it seemed. Tubbo was a little worried about a fire. Even a small one could draw unwanted attention. The brunet glanced up at the house ahead of them.
He didn’t see any lights on, but what if they somehow smelled the smoke and woke up? He couldn’t just feed Sunny cold soup though. For one, she wouldn’t eat it cold to begin with. Two, she needed to warm up or she might catch a cold! A sick child was the last thing he needed right now. Tubbo really hoped these humans ate avocados at least.
“Hey Princess… um, I just want to warn you. I might not be able to get you avocados anymore…” he said slowly, trying his damndest to avoid eye contact.
Sunny paused midstep, letting go of his hand. She looked up at him with a blank face, but Tubbo could see fire in her eyes.
“Huh.”
“Well it’s just…” Tubbo crouched down in front of her, placing his hands on her shoulders. “Avocados aren’t super common I don’t think. When I was your age I’d never even heard of them before.”
“Really..?” Sunny asked with a look of awe and horror on her face, like she couldn’t begin to comprehend life without avocados.
“Yeah,” he stood back up, a sorrowful expression on his face.
“Well- what about- what about coffee?” the younger borrower asked in a desperate voice.
“No, I think coffee is universal–” Tubbo paused, feeling goosebumps prickling down his spine.
Lightning cracked through the air and the flash of light revealed a shadow on the ground. His eyes widened in panic and he let out a gasp. Quickly, he grabbed Sunny and threw himself to the side, hugging her tight.
A pair of talons crashed down where they had been just seconds ago. A piercing ache jolted down his arm as his shoulder slammed into the stone, taking the brunt of the fall. Tubbo bit his tongue, swallowing back a pained cry. Now that the adrenaline was pumping, he barely noticed the dull throbbing in his shoulder.
“Pa?!” Sunny cried, her eyes wide with terror.
An owl towered over them, its grey and brown serrated feathers having made it virtually silent. It looked like a demon, with its massive glowing yellow orbs and feathery horns. Tubbo had seen one in action once. It swooped down on a field mouse with terrifying accuracy and snatched it up into the air. The poor mouse never had a chance.
He didn’t answer her as he scrambled to his feet. The owl recovered quickly too, flapping its wings wildly as it swiped at them with its talons again. Tubbo darted to the side, dragging Sunny with him, dropping some of the bags.
“What is that?!” the younger brunette practically squeaked.
“An owl–” Tubbo breathed out, shuddering as the owl's head turned a hundred and thirty degrees, staring directly at them.
Terrifyingly silent, the owl sprung at them again and Tubbo scooped Sunny up with his good arm, the adrenaline pumping through his veins giving him abnormal strength. The brunet vaulted over a slanted stone tile, feeling the wind rush passed them as the owl jabbed its beak into the stone. He ignored both the pain in his injured arm, and Sunny’s snot soaking into his shirt. The poor girl had her arms wrapped tightly around his neck as she shook, her face buried in his shirt.
He sprinted as fast as his legs would carry him, jolts of pain travelling up his ankles every time his shoes slammed into the hard stone. They were almost there. Tubbo wouldn’t let either of them get eaten by an overgrown finch right before reaching their new camp.
“Suns we have to be- very quiet,” he heaved out, the cold air making his lungs ache. “O-okay?”
“Mhm,” Sunny whimpered.
Daring a glance over his shoulder, Tubbo realised he didn’t see the owl anymore. A wave of anxiety washed over him and a pit formed in his stomach. It must’ve flown back to wherever it had been perching before it jumped them. They were lucky the first time when the lightning struck and Tubbo managed to catch a glimpse of the shadow. He didn’t think it would happen twice.
He stopped to catch his breath, and squinted up at the dark sky; it wasn’t circling above them. Tubbo turned his gaze to the shrubs and trees around the backyard, scanning the tall towering fences and the nearby houses. He didn’t see the owl anywhere though.
“Okay Sunny… I- I don’t want to scare you–” he started, setting the younger borrower back down on the stone.
“Pa… that was already really scary,” Sunny interrupted.
Tubbo took a deep breath, his legs shaking from the adrenaline. The pain was starting to really set in, and the cold and the damp really didn’t help either. Looking over at the porch, he could see how the skirt was made of wooden plants. The planks created a criss-cross pattern, with holes too small for any creature bigger than a small rabbit. The owl wouldn’t be able to get them there.
He gently took her hand again and began walking across the stone plateau once more.
‘At least the rain had stopped…’
“I know, but that owl might still come back. So we need to get under the porch, quickly and quietly. We’re gonna set up camp there,” he explained, helping her jump over a crack where a dandelion had challenged the tiles and won.
“Finally…” Sunny yawned.
“Sunny. Kid. You are way too nonchalant for someone who just nearly got snatched by an owl,” Tubbo deadpanned.
“I thought you didn't want to scare me,” she stated, a blank expression on her face.
“...” they stared at each other in silence for a moment.
“Look– you know how fragile my ego is.” deep down though, Tubbo was happy she was so quick to recover.
Sunny rolled her eyes, letting out a scoff. Tubbo went to clutch his chest dramatically in betrayal– but let out a pained yelp, quickly remembering that he had an injured shoulder. The cheeky look on the younger borrower’s face turned to sympathy when she noticed.
“Does your arm hurt Pa?” she asked, gently tugging on it.
“Uh, yeah. So please don’t pull on it,” Tubbo grimaced.
“Sorry,” Sunny mumbled.
Relief washed over him as they finally crossed over to the last stone tile. Tubbo breathed a sigh of reprieve as he shoved aside an overgrown dandelion stem. He didn’t notice the owl was back until he was slammed into the stone.
His brain buffered, taking a second to catch up before he realised what had happened. Sharp talons pinned him to the ground, digging into his arms and Tubbo let out an agonizing wail. He squirmed, pushing up against the owl’s superior strength. However even with the adrenaline pumping through his veins he was no match for a massive, hungry bird of prey.
“Go! Sunny hide- under the porch–!” he yelled, his voice cracking.
“But–”
“Go!” he struggled, reaching for his sword.
The smaller borrower nodded, tears pooling in the corners of her eyes. Tubbo managed to unsheathe his sword, using it to block the owl's beak as it tried to chomp his head off . At the same time, Sunny climbed up and between one of the criss-crosses in the porch skirt.
Tubbo pointed the tip of the sword at its face the second time the owl lunged for his head. The pin was embedded in the feathery bastard's eye. The owl let out a deafening shriek and started flapping its wings frantically, scratching at Tubbo as it shrieked. The borrower let out yelp and curled up in a ball, covering his head with his hands.
‘Maybe that wasn't a great idea–’
Tubbo froze as he heard a click. Suddenly squares of light flooded the yard. Next, a loud shuttering noise, which was then followed by a resounding slam rang through the air.
“Yeah hang on Phil, it's that stupid owl again,” a deep voice groaned.
Thunk, thunk, thunk, clack, clack, clack–
His eyes widened in horror as he listened to the footsteps of the much scarier predator that was fast approaching. The owl noticed too, turning its stupid creepy head to the giant that now towered over the both of them.
“How many times have I told you to stay out of this yard?! Fucking bird,” the bald human yelled, stomping it's feet so loudly that it shook the ground.
The owl let out a shrill shriek, squawking angrily at the human before it took off again.
Tubbo slowly picked himself up, biting his tongue to quiet his own pained whimpers. His body felt like it was on fire. His shirt was ripped, and the sleeves were covered in messy, dark red stripes; gifts left behind by the owl's talons.
“Jeez…” the human pulled a light box (Pierre said they were called phones) out of its pocket and held it up to its ear.
“Sorry I'm back. Yeah the little one that won't leave the crows alone.”
The human didn't see him yet, and Tubbo didn't want to change that. Quietly, slowly, he pulled himself up onto the trim of the porch and crawled through one of the many gaps in the wood. He managed to drag himself behind one of the wooden posts that framed the porch before he collapsed in the dirt, panting.
“I mean, maybe? I didn't see one. It might've just been a rat.”
Tubbo heard some shuffling behind him and awkwardly sat up, leaning against the post for support. He pulled his heavy bag and laid it down in the dirt, still working on catching his breath. He just needed a minute to recover.
“Hello?”
The brunet slapped a hand over his mouth to stifle the startled noise that tried to claw its way up his throat.
“Is anyone or anything down here?”
Tubbo knew there was absolutely no way the bald human could see him. Even laying down, it couldn’t see him from that angle, in the dark no less. Well- unless it could see through walls, which he severely doubted. However, the urge to get up and take off running again was strong.
“Yeah, I think it was just a squirrel or something,” the human got back up, dusted itself off and went back inside.
“K, I have to put the kids back to bed now. I think the owl woke them up again”
Tubbo still felt his heart hammering against his chest. The ridiculous amount of close encounters he and Sunny had experienced today gave him enough heart attacks to last a month thank you very much. He waited until it stopped raining sawdust and the footsteps above him faded away to move again.
Once he was absolutely sure the human wasn’t listening, Tubbo grabbed his hiker’s bag and got back up again, (much to his body’s dismay).
“Sunny?” he called out, stumbling over the uneven terrain. “Poultry Princess? Where are you?”
“Pa?!” his eyes darted to the source of the sound.
Relief washed over him like a tidal wave. Sunny was fine, she was alive in one piece. The little borrower had peeked her head out of her hiding spot; behind another wooden support. Tubbo rushed over to her, nearly tripping in the process, and lifted her up into a tight hug.
“I’m so glad you’re okay…” he whispered, setting Sunny back down on the ground when she started squirming.
The younger borrower grumbled, crossing her arms. She was giving him the look.
“...What?” he asked, dumbfounded. “Am I not allowed to hug you or–?”
“Don’t do that again Pa!” she cried, pounding her little fists on his chest lightly. “I thought- I thought you were gonna–...” her exclamations died down into sobs.
Once Sunny had calmed down, Tubbo had gotten a small fire set up. Though their clothes hadn’t dried yet, the warmth from the fire was welcome, and leftover avocado soup had never tasted so good. Luckily, the most essential items had been packed in their backpacks, and not in the bags they’d left behind while fleeing the owl attack. Tubbo didn’t think going back out there to rescue them was in his best interest at the moment. He’d just finished bandaging his new wounds after all, he wasn’t exactly keen on opening them back up already.
“Pa, can you sing me a lullaby?” Sunny asked as she helped her dad unravel their sleeping mat.
“I- well, I can try. Are you ready for bed then?” he pulled a blanket out of his bag and laid it down on the sleeping mats.
“I was ready for bed hours ago,” the younger borrower sassed as she flopped down on the mat.
“Fair enough,” Tubbo put the fire out before laying down next to her, pulling the other end of the blanket over them, like a blanket taco.
“Argh,” he cleared his throat. “My voice is a bit scratchy right now, so bear with me.”
“That's okay.”
“Ahem. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy, when skies are grey… You’ll never know dear… how much I love you. Please don’t take my sunshine away.”
“Pa…”
“Yeah?”
Sunny turned to face him.
“Is that about me?”
“Um, I guess you could interpret it that way, yeah,” he gave her an awkward smile.
“Okay…” she turned her back to him. “I’m glad the owl didn’t eat you.”
“Yeah, I am too, no more talking though. Sleep time,” he yawned out, pulling her into a warm hug.
“Night Pa.”
“Night Suns…”
Man, Arcane has my brain cooking in ways I wanna get out onto page because on one hand I thought the ideas for season two were pretty solid, interesting ideas but I feel like the story itself did not want to consider to the narrative that had written up till now. Don't get me wrong, I loved the songs, loved the art style, it just felt, to me personally, like it was lacking in the gorgeous writing that we know they were capable of in season one.
Making every character act like their total opposites would have been extremely interesting and I love that kind of character work but the execution was poor I feel, especially for Ambessa (who hates mages so why did she of all people want the herald's help? Literally shed have blown him up or something because he's the enemy in her perspective, like how could she be certain that this mage in piltover wasn't sent by the Black Rose? I dunno it felt off), Mel (Who I admit had an interesting arc, I would have preferred however that Ambessa, knowing how mages are treated by the world, stole something from the Black Rose to completely nullify Mel's powers because she and Kino are the sweetness in her heart and she'll be damned if she lets the world itself try to hurt them. I feel like Hextech sort of nullified the effects of this object/jewelry or whatever leading to her powers growing quietly till the explosion. After that perhaps Ambessa sends her a letter or someone who she didn't know was affiliated with the black rose, still trying to stay as uninvolved as possible but trying to explain to her what happened), Maddie (Who was a way more interesting character to me when she was a good/kind cop who encourages martial law because she fell into the ideals of it. Showing that even the kindest souls can choose the worst kinds of violence. Maybe have a small arc that her family influenced her placement in the enforcers which she hates and because of that she ended up on the team with Cait who thinks she's very reliable), Viktor (Like I would have liked to see him stay in piltover a bit before leaving because of Jayce and Caitlyn's actions combined plus him finding out he's a mage via listening in on Ambessa and her spy before going to Zaun. Maybe Ambessa hints at murdering him and blaming a Zaunite assassin?) and Vi (Who didn't even get angry or upset at Caitlyn for calling Zaunites animals like??? I don't know about anyone else but the Vi I know would acknowledge her grief but hold her responsible for her actions and call her out on that shit).
Like in my head there are all these possibilities, all these things that could have taken season two from good to great and they were squandered because the last three writers were afraid to finish what they started (in my opinion of course). Like I'll still watch season 2, I adore how some things were written like Isha and Jinx's relationship (which Isha dying was so foul in my opinion but like why didn't Jinx try to do what Silco did after dropping off Vi? Yeah, she'd be traumatized by that experience but I'd have no reason to believe she wouldn't have been desperate enough to save Isha no matter the cost. To go to Singed with Isha to try to save her like he saved her life when she died perhaps hold him at gunpoint, because Ambessa in my headcanon is not around nor would she protect him, screaming at him to bring her back. Or Isha never makes it to Warwick and something else happens to cause the explosion and Isha survives with and injury to her right arm to parallel Sevika/Jinx in a way. I dunno I just think it would be more interesting then give depressed character a reason to live then yank it out from under them.), I also liked Mel's mage arc, wish I could have seen more of her like fr because honestly slay, I liked the idea behind Caitlyn's arc and it's a shame it suffered from a speed run so that we could get to the next plot point, and I liked Warwick's inclusion, kinda wish he was a mixture of League and Arcane versions but that's just a me thing.
Then theirs the Caitlyn and Vi stuff which I think is cute and I love the ideas behind their relationship but then the whole dictator thing happened and it kinda made my brain go: Well, they were cute but I guess their not gonna be together because Caitlyn is actively harming Zaunites, right? Or will this be addressed then they get together, promising not to let her worst moments define her and have Cait actively try to help Zaun with her influence? No? Not even an inkling? Damn that kinda sucks. Now they're like aesthetically cute but just don't work for a variety of reasons the main one being an oppressor dating the oppressed. That kind of dynamic is not my cup of tea.
Anyway I just needed to get this out because I love Arcane, it's still pretty good in season two but nothing can defeat the adoration I hold for season one and how beautiful the narrative was. I just can't stop revolving inside my head how great season two could have been :)
They just landed in New York after a week-long infiltration-turned-violent-confrontation-plus-info-extract mission in a city too populated to keep the mission in the DL. But they cope. The mission is, all things considered, successful, with zero civilian death, minor public property damage, and neither are seriously injuried. They did, however, ended up receiving standing ovation from nearby civilians after they knocked down the last AIM agent, something that is worse than being on the receiving end of a flame thrower by an AIM agent in Bucky's book.
The point being, they are exhausted, famished and in desperate need of cuddles from Alpine.
They stop at the Wendy'd just around the corner from their apartment to buy some food to take home.
That's when the news break.
“The Supreme Court just made a historical ruling...”
Steve's attention turns to the little tv on the wall half heartedly at the sound of the news anchor, as do other half dozen customers in this small diner.
“in a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court rules the plaintiff, Jim Obergefell, wins.” The anchor pauses, as if to control her emotions. Steve doesn't recall immediately what the case is about despite hearing the name a dozen times in the past month. To be honest his brain is completely blank, he barely remembers his own name.
“The ruling will effectively legalize same sex marriage in the US.” the anchor says.
oh. Steve thinks.
OH! Steve thinks.
There are gasps and shouts. Steve's brain goes blank for a second.
“Steve!”
He turns around to see Bucky's sparkling eyes and bright smile. It's the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.
“marry me.” Steve blurts out.
Bucky's face turns to incredulous. “what?” he croaks out.
“marry me.” he repeats, louder this time. Neither of them moves. It's like one of those moments in movies where the world stops spinning, drawning in the blurry immaterial background, it's only the two of them.
“shit, Steve.” Bucky whispers, “this's a Wendy's.”
“marry me.” Steve says, his breaths fasten as he finally begins to register the weight of his words. He takes a step towards Bucky, holding his hands. “James Buchanan Barnes, marry me. marry me, Buck, god, I can't believe I said it, please, Bucky, let's get married. I've been wanting to do this since I was 16. I've loved you for so long...”
“Steve.” Bucky stops his rambling with a kiss, “yes, let's get married.”
Days later when Steve goes on the news channel to voice his congrats to the LGBTQ community and announces his own big news, he ends his interview with this: Don't let anyone tell you that Wendy's cannot be romantic.
Healing Blood Facts
Just like with the Cat Facts, this one is so you can understand what it's like to have healing blood and how it will affect the flow of the stories. I hope that this will help the stories be more immersive for you, as the reader, when you delve into this little world of mine that I intertwined with Supernatural.
Word Count: 1042
No warnings here. This is just infomation on how having healing blood works. If you have questions I haven't addressed, please share them in the comments. I don't always think of everything, and your questions, as the reader, help me think outside my little world.
----------------------------------------- Healing Blood Facts
So, having healing blood was interesting. There were things it worked on and things it didn’t. Plus, it made it so that some things still affected you normally while others did nothing for you, like some medications.
Injuries were also interesting. If you got a cut, that would heal. So would broken bones. But a headache, those you had to deal with. However, if you did something like stub your toe, that didn’t heal either. And you felt everything. Your nerves almost seemed more sensitive. That was why you typically always wore jeans and always had a flannel on over whatever shirt you were wearing, to keep as much of your skin covered as possible.
Emotional things weren’t healable, so to speak. Neither was how your brain was wired. So, if you had something like executive dysfunction, you just had to find a way to live with it. The same was true for things like insomnia, autism, ADHD, and a slew of other mental disorders that weren’t injuries. Amnesia, though, that would heal, but it would take time, depending on just how bad the injury was.
Then there were things like alcohol or “mind-altering substances.” Beer did nothing for you. You even tested it a few times, and after almost two dozen beers in one sitting, you didn’t even feel buzzed, so you had given up. Spirits, however, almost had the opposite effect, like you were more susceptible to the effects of them. (A/N: In some stories, alcohol barely affects you, and you have to drink far more just to get a buzz, like two full bottles of whiskey, as an example. I will make sure to clarify in the given story.)
Now, there were things on the microscopic level. Scientific things you had delved into so you could understand why you seemed to stop aging once you hit twenty-five, and still looked a little younger than that. Most of it gave you a headache, but it had to do with Telomeres and how they repaired themselves. Since your blood healed you, you didn’t experience the same deterioration that a normal person did. You did learn that your blood healed things that had to do with damage to your body. Not natural damage, like building muscles. So, if something was damaged, your blood healed it. That meant no aging, no disease, and you began questioning if you could die or be killed. Your only main worry there was the Colt, as there were only five things it couldn’t kill, and as far as you knew, you weren’t one of those things. You briefly wondered if an angel could smite you, or if a demon could use some weird power, but you didn’t want to find out. It wasn’t like you’d run into an angel, even if you weren’t sure they were real.
However, that came with drawbacks. If a vampire got a hold of you, it meant you were a never-ending food source as long as they kept you fed. But, if they kept you just weak enough, you couldn’t escape either. You were also pretty sure that your blood would be a valuable asset in spells, for a multitude of reasons. Then there were other monsters that fed on humans in different ways and you really didn’t want to find out just how far your healing ability went.
You wondered if there were spells that could possibly nullify your healing ability. There were spells for everything, but it wasn’t like you had access to books to look into it. Could a witch counter the powers of the Gods? Was that even possible? But in all honesty, you didn’t want to find out. So, you typically stayed away from witches.
Something interesting you discovered on a hunt was that your blood had the ability to heal others if they were injured. You’d gotten a cut, but the innocent you were trying to save from a werewolf had been hurt far worse. You were looking over their wound when some of your blood got into it. The wound had started to stitch itself together, right before your eyes.
That had your mind racing with questions. Just how far did your healing ability go when it came to others? However, it was something you didn’t want to test. The last thing you needed was to end up in some government facility as some lab rat. Or worse, caged by some human on a power trip who wanted to market your blood as the fountain of youth or a cure-all.
It wasn’t even about your heart pumping your blood. It was your blood, period. So, that was where crazy questions came to mind. Could you regrow body parts? Could you regrow organs if they were removed? Like, if someone or something cut out your heart, would it regrow? And, during that time, would you be conscious, or would you be in a state of sleep? Or, crazier yet, would you “see” heaven like others do in their near-death experiences? If one of your limbs or organs was removed and put onto someone else, would your blood affect that person, and for how long? Then there were the insane questions. Oh, you thought those were insane. Those were mild. The most insane one that crossed your mind was when you wondered if consistent transfusions of your blood would reverse aging in someone. That, too, was something you didn’t want to test or get captured and have someone or something test it out.
The other insane question, could your blood cure people who had been turned into vampires or, werewolves, or any other monster that originally started out as human? See, it’s one thing to ingest something, digest it. It’s different when it’s injected directly into the bloodstream. So that was how your mind had ended up on that line of thinking. It was something you weren’t sure you wanted to test, though, at least not alone.
Most of the time, though, you never thought about these things. It wasn’t until one of these things was staring you in the face that it would cross your mind. So, yeah, having healing blood made your mind spin with questions, most of which you didn’t want answers to.
Announcement From Hero Public Safety Commission
Public Safety Announcement
Warning! A nation wide pandemic has spread to a concerning number of the public. This disease has unknown origin and has a high mortality rate and is highly infectious. Please make way to your local safe zones. Below will be further information.
The disease spreads through infected saliva or blood entering the blood stream through bites. Although those with blood ingestion related quirks appear to potentially have antigens sufficient to be resistant or even immune. This however has not been confirmed and even those with quirks of that nature should exercise extreme caution. DO NOT BE A HERO. Anyone who has been bitten will not be allowed in safe zones and will be dealt with by law enforcement.
Stages of infection (Note that depending on age, body weight, and other factors, these times may vary)
Stage One- Initially bitten. Symptoms may include fever, headache, and mild hunger. This stage can be cured via amputation effected limb.
Stage Two: Two to Five hours after initial bite. Symptoms may include paranoia, increases appetite, semi-blindness or blindness in one eye in rare cases. Heartbeat is elevated. Only infectious via blood. Stage can still be cured via amputation.
Stage Three: Five to Fourteen hours after initial bite. Symptoms may include auditory hallucinations, aggression, confusion, memory loss, unsteady mobility, hydrophobia, and shortness of breath. Infected may have bloodshot eyes. Do not approach at this stage unless absolutely necessary. Still curable by amputation, but not recommended due to possible risks of bodily harm.
Stage Four: Fourteen to Twenty Four Hours after initial bite. Symptoms may include carnivorous and potentially cannibalistic urges setting in (but most are able to fight them early on in this stage), exhaustion, catatonia, stiffness in limbs, drooling and foaming at the mouth, seizures, vomiting if fed or anything in stomach. Heartbeat slowed. No longer curable by amputation. Say your goodbyes to infected.
Stage Five: One Day to Three days after initial bite. The infected goes into a coma. Advised to put infected down in this stage to avoid potential infection and injury.
Stage Six: Three days to Four days after initial bite. Infected wakes up, heartbeat is nonexistent. Infected is considered dead. Ignore anything they may say, it is merely muscle memory. Decay process will begin slowly after a week. Do not approach. Kill with no hesitation. Infected is now contagious.
Stage Seven: One Week onwards. Decay proceeds onward. No real changes besides physically from decay.
Stage Eight: Unknown time frame. Full decay. Infected is now just bones. Infected is fully dead.
Please stay safe and keep your loved ones close. Do not allow them to bite you.
Villains may be allowed inside safe zones when heroes are on duty. The most important thing is limiting spread. Anyone however, may be exiled.
Remember to stay safe and go beyond! Plus Ultra!
Hi do you know what the new regs mean? Or why these changes have been made?
Hi there anon 👋👋👋👋.
Let's start with the second first because it will lead to the second one okay?
So why are those changes made? The regulation was always going to change, but thanks to the COVID, it got delayed, and then aero started (with all their issues) and then the regulations where scrapped and made new ones according to what was going on track. The core of these regularization, that we only got the summary and not all the small details, is the rider's safety and sustainability.
Since 2020/2021 aero has become the main point of innovation and concern on the paddock due to the lack of real regulations surrounding them. Aero is making the racing and overtaking difficult and at the same time it's making the top speed reaching new levels and breaking records every weekend, but also makes crashes worse (way worse as riders carry more speed and gravel can't absorbe it making them reach barriers). Aero prevents the overtaking because it allows bikes to be bigger but also with all the forces that surrounds the ground effect more difficult to maneuver (this is also why riders have more hands/arm injuries and arm pump issues, as well as new type of arm punt issues (Raúl was affected in 9 muscles for example)). Plus the bike is not 600mm wide with all the forces it migh be like 700 or 800 making the tracks single line, so no overtaking or dangerous/aggressive maneuvers needed for the overtake to stick.
The initial plan was to ban (completely or partially) or limit the aerodynamics to the minimum to avoid all of this, however certain teams (ejem Ducati) where highly against it and instead suggested a limit on the engine capacity. Ash ( @motocorsas ) did a break down why it's a bad idea and what meant when it was done in the past, so I recomed you to read it.
I do know some agreement have been reached because there's some aero limitation, with the dimension of the wings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is said to help reduce the top speed on the straight, but what it's more important is that it will help a bit with the bikes being so physical and with the close racing. Less material is supposed to make the wings sturdier and not make them break at the minimum contact, which we know it destroys tons of races. Also as I said it will reduce how much space those bike will occupies on track with all the surrounding forces.
The back of the bike will finally be controlled and this is also important because it means teams can't do as much as they want. I think some teams bring like 2 options per weekend of this things and use both.
Tumblr media
As I said a compromise was made, and this is personal opinion, but I think Ducati used the new concession system to avoid the banning of aero and push for the engine capacity to be lowered to reduce speed. We all know that the new concession system (as this regs too probably) needed all manufacturers agree with them and to be honest Ducati not being able to do wildcards is bad, so I guess they accepted it to keep aero. Also as I said, we don't know the full extension of the regs, so maybe there are some little details on how this aero can be and where can be placed too. Or maybe not
The hole shot/read height device is banned again for safety reason and I'm so glad that this one is out. So many times it got struck and made riders retire or being unable to ride a bike (someone said it was wrestling an alligator but I can't remember if it was Redding with only one of the front wings, Brad in the same situation or Brad with the high device stuck, or all of them). I also remember that Ducati said they could use as some kind of DRS and I thought they where delusional, so I'm glad is out. Just as more info on this, Honda used to have such an reliable rear height device that Álex Márquez had to learn a manual way to realize it, which pretty informative on how many times it happened. And then, some times even that manual realize didn't work.
The other changes are mostly related to the new engine capacity that will reduce consumption and also allow more mileage. I'm a bit iffy with the fuel, not that it's a bad idea, which I do love, it's just that we are currently at minimum of 40%, and we know teams won't put more than the necessary, to 100% in only 3-ish years. So I just hope that it doesn't cause a lot of issues in general as in F1 lead to engines losing power horse and it'll be difficult to handle. Actually that wouldn't be so bad from a safety point of view as it will decrece the velocity too.
About the GPS thing, what I understood is that teams will be able to obtain the data after the sessions, and I think the idea will be for teams to see where they are strong and where their rivals are weak to kind of make potential overtaking, and help with the racing aspect. But in my opinion will cause chaos and havoc. Like just imagine Marc letting his rival know where does he break and what is his line. He will definitely do something different in the race.
To sump up, those new regs are DORNA's intervention and how to make the racing safer with a bit of aero banning and lowering the top speeds. I think more could have been done, but again, I think Ducati had the upper hand in the negotiations by trading the concessions and keeping the aero.
I also think that MotoGP is trying to remember that even if they are prototype racing, the idea is that some day what they do is going to end on the streets and that top speed is not the main point in here but rather sustainability and safety.
MotoGP/DORNA made this video to explain this changes. I recommend you to check it out
youtube
Ups I went into a bit of a rant, but I hope this explains whatever doubt you had and helps create your own idea about them.
