just saw someone on tiktok discussing whether or not a character "deserved a redemption arc" and i am losing my mind. we as a society have lost sight of what a redemption arc IS. it doesn't mean a character is rewarded by the narrative. it doesn't mean the other characters forgive them. it only refers to a character acknowledging their mistakes and choosing to better themselves, which any person can do, no matter how terrible. of course there's no shortage of badly executed redemption arcs, and a character who willfully committed countless atrocities having a change of heart after a single conversation about the power of friendship is simply poor writing and unrealistic. not every character who CAN change WILL. but there is zero value in debating whether a character "deserved" to be redeemed. no one in fiction or reality needs to be "worthy" of making better choices. there is no fixed point where a person is "too evil" and therefore forbidden from doing anything differently. it's always worth it to change, and implying otherwise is both a genuinely harmful ideology and bad literary analysis

would rather kms than make my only winbre post be about Suo's stupid ass, so it's time to talk about Nirei cause i love him. i read a post and my blood started boiling i dont fuck around so now i gotta defend him with my life. also cause im sick and tired of him not being deemed marketable enough to be included in merch and collab illusts when he's a whole—if not the most important—third of the main trio. (theres something to be said about Tsugeura too, considering they don't use him but love using Kiryuu, but that's a different conversation.)
anyway, on Nirei and the exceptionality of being ordinary.
manga spoilers btw also disclaimer im not eloquent at all i just say things.
there's something about Nirei that just simply isn't special and i think that's wonderful. not in a mean-spirited sense; Nirei is the most regular out of anyone in Furin, so much so that he had to buy an ugly shirt he didn't even like to stand out. he's just a kid with a notebook and a simple backstory trying to follow a hero's example. he's nothing extraordinary, especially seeing the people he's surrounded by. physically, he's very limited, which he knows and doesn't ignore at all, so he can't do much in fights. no one is more acutely aware of his own limits than Nirei. i was reading the first couple chapters again and it breaks my heart to hear his efforts be dismissed as "playing hero," because Nirei is the biggest hero in this whole manga.
it's true, yeah, he can't fight. he's more like another average citizen of Makochi than he is a Bofurin member sometimes. he lacks fighting abilities, his diplomacy isn't particularly the best, and he's two seconds away from going into cardiac arrest at almost all times. but it's not like he gives a shit. every single time he gets beaten into the ground, he picks himself back up immediately. he takes hit after hit, time and time again, because no matter how battered or defenseless he is, his drive to stay and protect the town is ridiculously strong. he does go down when he can't take any more (keel), but it's with improvement and training that he manages to throw his first—albeit useless—punch (noroshi or whatever this arc is called idk). improvement that, mind you, comes from recognizing his own limitations.
some have called him reckless (Suo), but i disagree, because Nirei is right. i know the kids would rather look out for him and have him uninjured by the end of a scuffle, but he doesn't need to be coddled. everybody else jumps into a brawl and gets a broken nose regardless of their fighting skills. Nirei isn't any different. he knows he's limited, he knows he can't fight, he knows he's nothing special. he risks it all anyway, because even though he wasn't built for fighting, he's more than prepared to try over and over again until his efforts are enough to make a difference. he's looked at Sakura's back and thought he couldn't match him, that Sakura gets back up even when he's almost fully tapped out, that he's not needed because Sakura's stronger and will be okay without him.
maybe he's right about this, too. i'm inclined to disagree, but i understand where he's coming from. Nirei chases, Nirei can't stop running because he'll fall behind all these phenomenal beasts that can hold their own. i'm so glad the conclusion he reached was "okay, i gotta step up my game," but i'm not really surprised. this is Nirei Akihiko we're talking about and, i think Suo put it best, he wants to become stronger more than anybody.
he's been at a disadvantage this whole time, "playing hero" rather than being an "actual" hero, but he has a goal. if he has to tear himself apart to stand next to Sakura, he will. he doesn't have to, of course, he's already more than useful the way he is, but when you're so ordinary that you get lost in the crowd, standing beside someone so exemplary makes you want more.
honestly, Nirei's fucking wild. lil bro's actually crazy. we've seen characters go apeshit, but no one in this entire manga is nearly as insane as he is. i appreciate Suo telling him to slow down and chill out, cause he was fully intending to kill himself learning how to fight with zero foundation. my guy was more than ready to actually fight Endo. he meant that. it's a good thing he's properly learning how to defend himself, considering he probably lacks the muscle to go on the offense. those are his limits and he knows that. it frustrates him, but it definitely does little to stop him, because look how big his back is. i hope somebody tells him, after all of this is over, that he's doing more than enough, more than great.
to be fair, fighting isn't even where he shines, and that's okay. he's not strong enough to beat anyone's ass and he doesn't need to be, either. he doesn't need to be a leader like Sakura or a devotee like Sugishita or mimic whatever the fuck Suo's got going on. in the words of my favorite pink curse, the real heroes are the ones who support from the back, and that's exactly what Nirei does. he's said it himself, he wants to guide Sakura all the way to the top and he can, because he thrives in being another citizen of Makochi. he's a regular person and i think that's what makes him so compelling and important.
there's something so fascinating about his simplicity. he really is nothing more than just an ordinary kid. put him in a normal high-school classroom and he'll pass his midterms with a 75. he recognizes what he's good at, of course, he knows the town inside out and it's very useful, especially to Sakura. he's amazing support. it really doesn't seem like it and people love to completely dismiss him, but i wanna be outrageous and call him the backbone of these kids. he was Sakura's first friend and he continues to be the one pushing and prodding to make sure he stands back up every single time. he's more necessary than anyone gives him credit for. i have no doubt in my mind that, if it weren't for him, Sakura wouldn't be able to do half the things he's managing. even Suo, who's out here acting like he knows the secrets of the universe, has to stop and reorganize his ideas when Nirei talks.
if Suo is the heart (debatable, but okay, whatever bro says) and brain, i'd like to think Nirei is the spirit and the soul. there's no chance the kids would work so smoothly without Nirei around—which, yes, arguably the same could be said of all of them, but i've seen Nirei be dismissed as a Zenitsu looking ass gag character and i've never had to hold back a kys so hard. idk for sure what the general consensus on him is cause i've only ever seen him used in the context of ships and never on his own, which honestly makes me a little sad. especially after seeing the popularity poll cause he didn't even make it into the top 5 with not even 1k points personal offense tbh i need a word with the voters. what i've gathered is that aint nobody gaf about his ass im devastated Suo has to fuck off (13k votes is crazy gang come on). which i don't understand. take him out of the equation and everything falls apart. Sakura's the sword, Suo's the strategy, and Nirei is the ambition, the desire, the force, the feelings.
there's much to be said about how he's treated, not only in-universe, but also by the people consuming the media and the pr team. i don't fuck with shipping, but when i'm scrolling through my timeline, Nirei only exists in the context of somebody's favorite ship. and don't fucking get me started on the mischaracterization. look me in the eye and tell me Nirei doesn't have more conviction than any of these dumbass kids. yes, he gets scared and he's fucking horrified most of the time, but motherfucker he's fighting. he's out there in the frontlines, making himself useful, biting more than he can chew and then some. i dare you to treat him like wittle baby that needs protection.
if not for his uniqueness, look at him for his regularity, because i find it endearingly wonderful. i think there's something so special about the ordinary. he deserves a lot more than what he's getting so these mfs better put him in all collab illusts cause if i have to see Kaji in his place one more time i will personally book a flight. okay thank you thats all i promise ill never come back here have day.
#wind breaker#nirei akihiko#sakura haruka#suo hayato#defending nirei on the internet is not enough i need a gun#id say nirei get behind me but no. nirei go beat someones ass#shoutout to kisaragi nanao btw my favorite pink curse#i love you nirei you deserve so much better#youre my sunshine my only sunshine you make me happy when skies are grey youll never know dear how much i love you please dont take my suns#no cause it makes me so upset#hes right there are you fucking kidding me#what is it about him that makes people not wanna include him i dont get it#thats not true i do get it he looks too much like a child and you cant justify in your head wanting to fuck him#media literacy devil

I feel like we as a society need to acknowledge the media literacy every fan of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein goes through.
Which goes in this order:
-Victor is a monster for what he did/The Creature is the victim.
-The Creature is a monster for what he did/Victor is the victim.
-The Creature AND Victor are simultaneously victims of their circumstances.
-The Creature and Victor are both perpetrators and both show incredible entitlement that ruins the lives of victims around them. You cannot excuse either characters actions no matter how much you empathize with them.
#really tired of the woobification of The Creature#he was not innocent guys please#One of my friends once said “The Creature is an incel“ and I haven’t forgotten that take#mary shelly's frankenstein#frankenstein#This isn’t to be a Victor apologist either yawl#I love both of them but they’re so incredibly toxic#tired of the lack of literacy abt the book tbh.#anyways I love the book sm#open to convo in the comments on this please guys#classic literature#gothic literature#literature#media analysis

Every time online discourse starts, I can only think of the fact that like, wouldn’t everyone be happier right now if we weren’t doing this?
We could actually just move on. And I think a lot of people would have been able to avoid getting their feelings hurt. What if next time we just, like, didn’t?
——
That was just a general feeling, but this is definitely inspired by the new D20 Misfits and Magic discourse. All I’m going to say about that specifically is, I think a lot of the time, you guys overthink things, and accidentally ruin media for yourselves. That’s okay. But you don’t need to ruin it for everyone else, I think.
You don’t need to make a post saying how adamantly you don’t want to watch something, when nobody was telling you that you had to watch it. Nobody cared at all until you condemned others for enjoying it, and made it an issue of morality. People don’t like that. When you tell people they are upholding the institution of trans-misogyny just by watching an internet show, they usually don’t like it. Usually people get mad when you say things like that. Sometimes they will even disagree!! as is the nature of the internet. I think if you don’t like that happening, you probably shouldn’t make a post. Just my opinion though I guess.
Feel free to disagree, just promise me you’ll take a big, long, meditative deep breath before you reply.

Guys, I’ve read the Wild Robot
And let me tell you, if I hadn’t recently taken a Children’s Literature class in college, I would’ve said this was the best middle-grade book I’ve read since elementary/middle school. I almost read this book in one night (I was sleepy 😴) like I couldn’t put it down.
The heart behind this book is astounding and it never shies away from showing complex and difficult concepts. You will fall in love with Roz and her gosling son along with all of the other animal on the island.
If you’ve got younger ones, I highly recommend reading this to them or having a little book club moment with them. However, be prepared for whatever hard questions may come your way (i.e. circle of life and climate issues). You know your child and how much they can handle/understand. If you’re like me and much older, it’s a quick read and a great way to finish off a long day. It’s a part of a trilogy and you bet I’m patiently waiting for my hold on a copy at the library.
If the movie is anything like the book (which, given a rewatch of the trailer, it’s looking like so), we are in for a special treat.
#the wild robot#children’s literature#pedro pascal#did I get the book on the off chance pedro might have been casted - yes#but from what I learned in my kid lit class is that middle grade fiction in much more nuanced than ya lit today#ya lit has better potential of being good bc it has more room to work with#however ya tends to lean on tropes more heavily than middle grade#middle grade is much more focused on learning topics and issues than playing with them#making them more tightly knit#also with the decline of media literacy I think this book is a wonderful counterattack#it’s not shattering by any means but def a big step in the right direction#especially for those who have a harder time getting interested in books#and once again I’m so pleased with how carefully curated Pedro’s projects are amidst his growing stardom#he truly cares about the message and thought provoking-ness of his work#and it makes this writer/literature nerd so proud#(yes I know there’s no true messages behind his recent gladiator and marvel roles other than it sounded like fun to him but I support that#- too… the man must have his fun purely for fun’s sake)

The obsession with wanting "consequences" to TOTK's ending are infuriating and shallow. (Massive TOTK Spoilers ahead)
"Why did they have to change Zelda back?"
Because her kingdom NEEDS her. Everyone, not just Link, is fighting together to get her back. NPCs tell you about things she did in between BOTW and TOTK to help them, stressing her importance as a leader. One of the schoolchildren waits outside her house every day in anticipation of her return. Speaking of which, Zelda was able to take her nerdy interests and love of learning and channel that love into bringing improvements to Hyrule via establishing a school and a research team. The kingdom is worse off without her. The title "Tears of the Kingdom" is important because the tears are Zelda's, and she IS the kingdom since she's all that's left of the royal family. It's kind of like the story of the Fisher King: the King is the land, and if the King is sick/ailing, so too is the land.
The main theme of the game is community. Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi had this to say about the game's core theme:
Everyone working together to push back the forces of evil and save their homeland. It's emphasized that Link (and many of the characters, especially the sages) can't do the job alone; he needs help. This even extends to the ending. Link's Recall wouldn't have been sufficient to change Zelda back; Rauru and Sonia amplify his power the same way Sonia and Zelda amplified Rauru's light beam in the Gerudo Invasion memory. Likewise, Rauru and Sonia couldn't bring Zelda back because Link had the necessary ingredient: a motive in the form of his love for Zelda. Just like how Zelda found the necessary motive to unlock her powers and save Link in BOTW, so too does Link accomplish the same in TOTK.
Leaving Zelda as a dragon would have contradicted her character development in BOTW, which amounted to her learning to move past her failure and loss from the Calamity. She also, um, can't figure out "what kind of person she's going to be and what she is going to say" if she's a dragon. The end of her arc amounts to her taking up the role of leadership and restoring her kingdom with the help of Link, the sages, et al. Again, the theme of community, connections, and working together to overcome obstacles.
"Why couldn't she come back with dragon features?"
To quote Mr. Garrison: "That's fucking stupid."
Sonia explains that Recall recalls an object's memory, meaning the only result of the Literal Triforce of Link, Sonia, and Rauru using an amplified Recall on Zeldragon was to return her to the state she was before she ate the stone. This is why her stone is tied around her neck at the end. She couldn't have leftover dragon parts because she was never a dragon to begin with. Also, the greatest loss one could suffer from becoming a dragon is, as emphasized by Mineru, the loss of self, not the body.
"Why does Link get his old arm back?"
The amplified Recall restored it. Also, thematically, it works better for Link to grab hold of Zelda's hand with the hand with which he initially failed to grab her at the start of the game.
"Changing Zelda back nullifies her sacrifice."
No, it doesn't. She fully accepted she would never change back. She wasn't thinking about the possibility of Link saving her because as far as she knew that was impossible; she made her decision out of love for her kingdom and Link. In the end, she succeeded in her mission (as did Link). If she made the sacrifice with the assumption Link would save her, then I could see this argument holding water. But Link was never going to give up on her because he LOVES her. Even she's in disbelief at having changed back (and very thankful because now she's home). In the secret ending, she says, "I never thought I would stand in this place again." We feel the weight of her sacrifice in the final memory, and the ending provides an emotional release because we the player repay her for all she did to help us and because she more than proved her heroism. I liken it to the ending of Pinocchio (1940) wherein the Blue Fairy changes Pinocchio into a real boy as a reward for giving his life to save Geppetto's.
"Her not remembering being a dragon is a copout."
Mineru explains very clearly that becoming a dragon means losing one's self. You lose all your memories and indentity; you cease to be the person you were. So, yes, she wouldn't remember being a dragon flying around for centuries. But you know what she would remember because it happened before she lost all sense of self?
Though not outright stated, it's clear from the character animation that Zelda was in immense pain as the transformation began to take effect. Also, you can tell she was absolutely terrified in that moment. She knew what she was doing was necessary to save her kingdom, but she's thinking, "Shit, these are my last few seconds before I lose myself forever. I'll never see my loved ones again: Link, Purah, Robbie, Riju, Sidon, the schoolchildren in Hateno, etc. And I'm doing this all on a MASSIVE gamble and act of faith that Link will find me, reclaim the Master Sword, and destroy the Demon King." That's not the kind of traumatic event you'd easily forget. She'll probably be contemplating "Wow, if Link hadn't been so determined, I wouldn't be here now and that would have been my last moment alive," for some time. And no, you don't need to see her suffering psychological effects in-game; that's best left up to the viewer's imagination; there's only so much story they can cram into the game before it's overstuffed.
"Why did Rauru and Sonia come back to restore Zelda?"
Because they loved her, and Zelda loved them. From the moment Zelda met them, they promised to find a way to return her home to reunite with Link. They have an emotional (and familial) connection to her. By helping Link restore her, they're extending a final act of love to the princess they adore so much. It's a beautiful sendoff to them, because unlike Zelda's biological parents (Zelda's mother died when she was six, and Rhoam was too busy being a king to actually be a father to her), they were able to provide for and help her on her journey. It would have been a mistake to not bring them back to wrap up that plot point.
I think a lot of nerds suffer from Cinema Sins/TV Tropes brain: only able to deal in the most literal without any room for meaning. "Punishing" Zelda for her sacrifice wouldn't have added anything to her arc, as the whole point of her character isn't to be a stoic symbol for her people to mindlessly obey. The game deals in second chances, not just for Zelda obviously but also for Link. Link gets a second chance at the end to catch Zelda to make up for not catching her at the beginning; that's parallel storytelling with actual deliberate meaning behind it. Otherwise, the story amounts to, "He fucked up and there's nothing he can do about it." Remember that much like Zelda, Link had enormous pressure placed on him from a young age. He was expected to carry his duties out lest the entire kingdom be DOOMED FOREVER. But with TOTK's ending, he can realize that he doesn't have to worry about that pressure since no one's forcing it on him anymore. He can shape his own destiny and bounce back from a mistake; he doesn't have to lose Zelda forever.
I've already explained that the power Link, Sonia, and Rauru use is just an amplified Recall, but technical explanations aside, it's mainly the sort of scene that's driven more by emotions than by "logic." A good example of a scene that relies on the emotions of the story to carry it is the climax of Disney's Dumbo (1941). Animation critic/historian Michael Barrier writes:
If you're the sort of person who questions why Dumbo is able to fly without the "magic feather" or how Dorothy Gale goes home just by clicking her heels and repeating the mantra "There's no place like home," you probably shouldn't be watching movies.
Special thanks to @avalypuff, @blueskittlesart, @thecagedsong, @aquaticpal, and @nolongerapileofashprobably for their posts on the subject; all of you made some excellent insights on the ending and how it ties in with the game's themes. I'll go ahead and link to said posts for further reference:
#princess zelda#totk spoilers#zelda totk#tears of the kingdom#the legend of zelda#nerds please stop learning media literacy from cinema sins and tv tropes#this post took a lot out of me#but i had to get it off my chest#a darker sadder ending would not have worked thematically

OH. okay so normally i dont touch discourse with a 20 ft pole, but this has been niggling at my brain tonight and i finally realized why
the people who are mad at qbbh for the memory loss and “dodging consequences” dont understand that he doesnt want to dodge consequences. Like they cant know that, they werent focused on him when he was literally feeding himself to the soul vultures and planning his eventual imprisonment and also. The Many Many Many hints he made towards suicide/sacrifice/Just Fucking Dying.
ccbbh is a subtle roleplayer, he’s been building this shit up for two whole months- it was day FIVE of the eggs going missing that he resolved to do whatever it took (hurting his friends) to get the eggs back. It was day three that he followed in dapper’s footsteps and started feeding himself to the soul vultures (and gaining a Massive headwound beneath his hood in the process- you can only see it if you go on namemc and remove the layers). He’s got impaired judgement. Even the memory issues arent a new thing- i cant remember exactly when they started, but one of the first big moments i remmeber was september 30th where he spent an hour falling into a delusional frenzy searching his base for cameras that he forgot he asked aypierre to plant.
The super murder of purgatory and the memory loss afterwards probably all feels very sudden for people who havent been following his story, but as someone who has been- all of this has been true to character. The only cheap swings he’s made have been combat-based in purgatory, and even the motive for those was built up in rp.
People are calling for consequences, but he has alrwady been experiencing self-inflicted consequences for months. The blue on his usual outfit is blood. This recent memory loss isnt a restart to get away with the atrocities - it is yet another consequence of his egg-protecting complexes and the ways he punishes himself for failing them.
he is NOT a moral character. he’s a demon hiding in plain site. he has eaten people. he has killed people. he understands the cruelty of his actions, and the consequences of them for the loved ones of his victims. but it matters when that harm is being done to his loved ones. he’ll still do it, because he will do anything for the eggs, but it matters, and that means that he has already started the process of self-inflicting those much-demanded consequences
#anyone who isnt a qbbh makn please extend some sympathy for us. our guy is being misunderstood again#so if people seem twitchier than usual that probbaly plays a factor#but if it ever gets annoying be rest assured he is doing his very best to train us in media literacy#and also the block and filter buttons are your friends#and qbbh mains join me in the genuinely freeing revelation that they have just. strawmanned him yet again#i feel like youve gotta be able to understand a character to truly hate them#and no one (not even us oh my fucking god) really understand him#and thus the vitrol means nothing and i am free of all woes#anyway tho genuinely if you want to know more about this cube im willing to talk about him#i have Credentials#one of my posts was dono’d to the cc almost word for word and he called me a know it all#qsmp#qsmp badboyhalo#discourse#<- mentioned#an interestinf discussion could be had too about xyz character Deserving xyz thing#and really people in general Deserving xyz thing#but i think that is a wasp nest i dont know enough about to join swatting#i ngeed. to go to bed

I'm going a little nuts. I've just read the Odyssey (they only had me read the Iliad in high school, so I'm correcting that oversight, lol). I've looked at multiple different translations because the library/Guttenberg Project are free so comparing/contrasting is easy and fun! I've also listened to EPIC. And like... it's an adaptation with an obvious set of themes drawn from the original they want to explore over others more predominately present, so there will be differences. It's also a modern interpretation? So like... it's not going to 100% adhere to ancient Greek values? Like a modern audience is going to have some qualms about baby murder, so if you want to adapt it that's going to have to be addressed (if you don't take the coward's way out and just shove every war crime on Neoptolemus - or go the full historian route and fully write from an ancient Greek perspective which may alienate new readers but could also be dope? It's subjective).
Like, we all should know an adaptation (especially a modern one) is never a substitute for reading the original work. But adaptations can also bring new or expanded perspectives on the original work, expand on or address themes from the work in a new way, as well as inspire people to read the original. And honestly? A popular adaptation should motivate people to read/watch the original - this is exactly what kicked my ass in gear to read the Odyssey!
I'd also say don't hero-worship the original. Especially if you haven't read it in a while and have a knee-jerk negative reaction to any new adaptation. The original works should still be read but let people have fun! Don't criticize, just say if you want more content/context read the original! I would, for example, never criticize someone for loving Muppets Treasure Island or Treasure Planet even though they don't stick one to one on the original Treasure Island story - even though it was my favorite book growing up. I think they both are made with a love of the source material, but are changed for the medium + the specific themes they want to address.
I don't know. If an adaption makes a story (especially and old one) more accessible it should usually be celebrated and met with encouragement to look deeper into the source material instead of acting superior - especially if you haven't read the source material in a while either. Let people have fun and encourage them to explore! Don't shame them for liking an adaptation, especially when it's made to expand the reach of a wonderful work to a younger, wider audience.
#epic the musical#the odyssey#odysseus#treasure island#rant post#will probably delete later#adaptations#stories#I just want everyone to have media literacy and nice things#Especially since I got burned out with reading during/after uni#so anything that get's people to engage in a heathy way and even explore more is a net positive in my book#literature#Please tag any other properties btw#My only flaw is I've been a Dracula novel truther since 2012 - even if the movie costumes are A+ material#I live in awe

I'm stealing a tweet but what are your media literacy check characters
#one of mine is mu qing from tgcf because if you still think he was being antagonistic on purpose i have no words for you tbh#the other one is bakugou katsuki for obvious reasons#not because i'm defending what he did but because people actively deny that he had character development#my other other one is toga himiko for also obvious reasons#my other other other one is jiang cheng from mdzs#actually mdzs itself is a media literacy check honestly but that take is for another day#bnha#mha#mdzs#tgcf#svsss#2ha#erha#those r all my recent fandoms#please fight in my comments i'm begging you i want entertainment#FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT#p5r#p5#sorry i forgot one my other other other other one is goro akechi because you don't have to like him but calling him evil is crazy#i don't think he's a good person but he's not EVIL#love him btw he is my favorite p5 character but he is Not Really A Good Person#but like people saying he's evil and all the phantom thieves hate him. did you. read persona 5#did you just look at the pretty pictures and numbers like what#the game literally tells you that he was a victim of unfortunate circumstances and the adults around him like EVERYONE ELSE#HE WAS 16 YEARS OLD WHEN HE WAS HIRED TO BECOME AN ASSASSIN#actually i've decided that maruki is also a media literacy check character#because the amount of people i see acting like he maliciously manipulated a bunch of teenagers and he's so bad/evil/a creep is insane#guys. characters don't have to be just good or bad.

I’ve been seeing people calling Marry my Dead Body (2022) bury your gays and I’m so serious when I say I’m confiscating that term until y’all learn what it means.
In reality it's the exact opposite of bury your gays. Mao-Mao almost dies (his soul is almost destroyed) but then finds unconditional love and lives (is reincarnated). He almost sacrifices himself but is saved and gets his happy ending.
Like... it's truly baseline media comprehension.
#this was in the drafts for a while#i still feel the need to say it#just like#maomao was already dead guys that doesnt automatically mean bury your gays PLEASE#marry my dead body#bury your gays#media literacy#mao pang yu

i just saw someone say that BOTW/TOTK zelink’s relationship is “mostly professional with empathy” and that “there’s no scene showing a bond between link and zelda”
i guess that zelda just moved in with link for kicks with whom she has absolutely no feelings for other than strict professionalism and camaraderie! yeah they share a bed or whatever but it doesn’t mean anything because they DO NOT under any circumstances have a bond whatsoever other than being coworkers. also when she cries in his arms or feels desperate to return to him and basically sacrifices herself for him doesn’t mean anything either! sure he might be the only person left in the world who understands her and knows what she’s been through and he would do anything to protect her and take care of her but the fact that “no matter where i go to offer aid, link remains at my side” is also just because he is contractually obligated to follow zelda around and it isn’t because he wants to at all.
link doing anything to get her back and continuing to look after her post-calamity is purely out of necessity guys sorry i must’ve misunderstood! makes perfect sense my bad
#i literally couldnt believe my eyes when i read that comment#like how dumb are you PLEASE#the lack of media literacy that exists in some people is horrific#i love when people lie and twist a narrative in canon because they feel threatened by it#zelink#tears of the kingdom#totk#breath of the wild#botw#zelda#link#my thoughts
