A Different Perspective on Comments
I know the 'comment/reblog versus like' debate is so common that people just scroll past most of it. Still, I want to share something I realized about my process, because I haven't seen this perspective yet:
Comments remind me that a fic exists.
I am an adult. I have a time-consuming job, a home, and family life that take up the majority of my time. I also have 10+ WIPs at any given moment. I often don't remember that I meant to write more for one story or another.
Here's how the process usually goes: Someone leaves a comment. I am 🥰 for the next two days, and I think about the comment. Often (and especially if the comment pointed out something specific), I start thinking about the plot, the characters, and what I was thinking about doing next in that fic.
As soon as I start doing that kind of plotting, I write it down. Next thing I know, I have half a chapter written and the next four parts outlined.
Likes are fine, but I almost exclusively see them and go, 'Huh.' Not a bad 'huh', but I don't think about them. They don't make me re-explore my fic. I'm glad someone liked my writing, but that's as far as that goes.
"But Ink, where do reblogs fit into this?" I am so glad you asked. The motivation from a comment only lasts so long. It's not fair to expect the same commenters to keep giving feedback. But when you reblog, more people read the fic and can give their own thoughts, which makes the author think about the work and the cycle keeps going.
So, in conclusion, comment if for no other reason than that it reminds your poor, tired fic writer that the fic exists and that people are interested in reading more.

hii i’ve been looking for long well written zonami fics and i was hoping you could recommend the best stuff you’ve read. i don’t mind any site i’ll even take wattpad at this point ;—; there’s waay too little of this pair on ao3 and so many works i’ve seen are abandoned. help a girl out thank youuu 🫶🏼
Oh man, I wish I could tell ya! I haven't had the time to read fanfics lately, so I'm not sure if there are any recent ones I can recommend.
If you're a long-time ZoNami fan, you might've already heard of these two completed M-rated fics by AshaRose on Fanfiction.net:
Mystery Pants
Memory
And there's one completed explicit fic that I've been meaning to read on AO3 by StillPurplePanicking: Dry Spell
If you've already read these, I can only apologize lol - there just aren't too many fics out there for ZoNami, and it's been a long while since I've last read a long and completed ZoNami fic. I want to write more to add to the collection of ZoNami works out there, but it's been tough finding time to work on 'em.
My one attempt at a long fic is still on hiatus, but I'm hoping to jump back into it soon! It's unfortunate, but the ZoNami drought is real 🥲
(A shoutout to @harritudur for feeding us all those goregous ZoNami art during these tough times!)

am i the only person who tends to think of pain in pitch?
as in, pain can be “high pitch” or “low pitch” — if its sharp, like a paper cut or heartburn or aching, its high pitch; if its like a stubbed toe or sore muscles or a headache, its low pitch
high pitch pain is when you hiss, low pitch pain is when you groan, etc etc
i dont know if this makes sense to anyone else?????
(because everytime im writing fanfiction i have to hold myself back from describing it that way — and im not even sure i could fully, effectively communicate that w/o breaking immersion — but me saying “sharp pain” has become. a problem. probably. i really need alternatives)

the feeling when you’re looking through your old bookmarks on ao3 and come to the realization that the hermitcraft fic you hyperfixated on when you were younger was either deleted or you didn’t bookmark it like an idiot

Ao3 you either give me a filtering system in my history, or an option to get the history page to be infinite scrolling, because I need to find that one fic I read between February and March of last year

Things that make me a real star wars fan:
the og battlefront games are some of my favorite games ever
I've read over 100 of the books
I've read most of the pre-disney star wars comics, including the strips from the 70s and 80s, and many of the post Disney comics
I played all the Lego star wars games as a kid and then paid to play them again with the Skywalker saga
the 2003 clone wars specials are some of my favorite animated media ever, and I've watched the clone wars series several times over
I rewatch the OT and PT about every 3 months and actually force people to celebrate may the 4th and may the 6 with me
I own star wars Lego sets. Yes the small ones, but even those are overpriced. Still own them though.
I've watched most of the Disney+ cashgrabs shows
when I went to comic con the only thing I bought was a han solo art print that I got signed by the artist (I then left early because I have autism and had an autistic meltdown. I haven't gone to a convention since but I want to try them again, so if you're autistic give me tips you use at conventions pls!!)
i own the star wars archive books
i have several of the newer star wars games
Things that make me a fake star wars fan:
i constantly forget jango fett's name
i think that both luke and mara jade are gay and each other's beards.
one time at dnd i was talking about star wars and referred to basic as common
i call jizz jazz

It’s weird but years ago when the trailer for Yesterday came out, I was dying to see that film. Never ended up seeing it when it released, but thought about it on and off for five years… without seeing it. I came up with all these plots in my head about what I thought would happen in the movie. I had headcanons about a film that I never saw. I have two songs on a playlist completely unrelated to the Beatles that I headcanoned as songs that reminded me of the film. That I didn’t see. For five whole years 🤣
Anyway finally saw it. Loved it. It’s up there with Across the Universe

hi☺️ how are you?🫶🏻 I recently got an idea for a fic (I used to write but i’m honestly not satisfied with my works yet so i never posted anything) andd I was wondering if you have any tips maybe? Because I can’t stress enough how talented you are! (if you ever write a book pls let me know!!!) and i’d really appreciate some tips if you were willing to give me some🫶🏻 My ideas usually come in my mind visually, like i’m watching a film, and I struggle finding the right words to express what’s in my head and I’m not sure how to fix that😕 in my head it’s so intense and full of emotion and alive but when i’m writing… it’s a disaster I think🥲 anyway thank you in advance whether you decide to give me tips or not, i know it’s a lot to ask but I adore the way you write🫶🏻☀️
AKJFHDSKF THANK YOU LOVIE !!! This is so sweet and nice of you to say, I appreciate the kind words more than you know 💕
I would absolutely love to give you tips ! I've answered a few asks like this in the past, one of which you can find here just to save time and reiterate most of what I would say.
It sounds like you've got the overall plot of your story nailed down and you know what you want to write, so the best thing I would recommend for your visualizing tactic is to make an outline that can better depict the progression of the whole thing. I totally get wanting to just control c + control v your thoughts onto a page and be done with it, but that's where being patient with yourself comes in. The outline doesn't need to be followed to the letter (mine very rarely are), but it can really help you organize the order of events you're imagining in your head.
Take your time with describing the scenes in your story that build up to that final, pinnacle moment. It might seem like you're rambling, but in my personal experience the added attention there really pays off in the end. I always follow the 'show-not-tell' guideline when I write so there's less of me telling the readers what's going on and more of me showing it. An example would be a character's body language changing when they're uncomfortable, or icy wind leeching the warmth from their cheeks. Little things like that can add life to a story vs. simply stating "He was uncomfortable" or "She was cold".
Writing isn't a linear process for most people. There's ups and downs and lengthy breaks followed by intense, week long binges of word vomit, so definitely be kind to yourself and have fun with it ! If you need anything else feel free to shoot me another ask or DM me, I would be happy to help ! Have a great day and good luck my dear 💗
