Do you have any Unpopular vampire diaries opinions ?
I would honestly argue that all of my opinions of TVD are unpopular but that's simply because I don't like the show and hate like half the characters. Also the part of Fandom I participate in, the Bonnie Fandom, has similar feelings so what is considered an unpopular opinion there is a very different metric. As I've pointed out in some responses, we have completely divorced ourselves from canon, so a lot of things put out narratively in canon that most of the Fandom follows even with their AU's is completely out the window. I, and a lot of my mutuals, basically only seek to improve on the small bots we liked as a way to heal the trauma the show left us with.
So with that as our basis this is what I'd consider my unpopular opinions.
Kol is irrelevant as far as Originals go and I don't ship Kennett. This is one I stay mostly silent about because a) it was always a crack ship and b) I genuinely think it wouldn't be as popular of a Bonnie ship had Plec not brought them into an argument unprompted, but most of all I can't find it in me to care about the character enough even read in fics. I did a rewatch of the show to see if there were just episodes I missed where he was more prevalent than I remembered and nope. I didn't watch TO, so the idea of having to go to a whole different show to get the characterization of a character for a ship doesn't appeal to me. Do I think Kennett fans were done dirt by Kolvina? Yes, but that's a pattern with all of her ships going all the way back to season 1 and Tonnie shippers, so it ends up low on my list of grievances.
Bamon could have been a good ship. Now this is more of something unpopular with my main Fandom, Bonkai as it is her most popular ship at least quantity-wise, but it's mainly unpopular because most of us can't stand Damon. I will say, he's not even in my top ten favorite characters but I do love the natural chemistry between them and if they had followed a more logical route in season one they would have been at the very least interacting more in season 1 since his entire plan hinged on Bonnie and he literally tried to accomplish that by not speaking to her once...
There are some staple tumblrs here that are kind of like an authority in the Fandom as in they've written a lot of metas that most Bonnie fans agree with. There's one that I started following when i first got here that I will not name (no need to actually bring them in and I honestly haven't checked their blog in years) that I disagree with most of their takes. While they are a fan of Bonnie and Bonkai, their metas rely a little too much on chemistry. While that's a big part of what attracts me and people to a ship I personally think there needs to be more because a lot of their examples involve a very subjective perspective. They mostly started following a whole different tvd ship that I don't like so I didn't read too much into their metas, but I realized I didn't care for the takes with the ship I liked so I stopped following them altogether.
The Bonkai Fandom isn't dead. While there's a significant decline in content, myself include, I don't think we can truly call it dead because there are still people making content and consuming that content. Fandoms need the source material to keep alive, at least in the sense where there's still events and regularly updated post, but to say something is dead just downplays the people still contributing and still consuming. We're now just in our quality-over-quantity phase because I guarantee other tvd ships churning our content everyday is going to be rough.

There's some kind of connecting thread - and I can't quite articulate what it is - between Laudna's reaction to Bor'dor's betrayal, her reaction to Ashton taking the fire shard, and Orym carrying Otohan's sword.
In all three situations, someone deeply, deeply hurt did something that was grounded in their personal grief. And in all three cases, Laudna's reaction was of extreme, personal betrayal. (This isn't critical of Laudna, btw; she's a fascinating character and I think Marisha is doing an incredible job of leaning into the reality of how trauma can make you act in heightened, messy ways that are very difficult for everyone around you.)
Everyone was hurt and shaken by what happened with Bor'dor and Ashton, and understandably so, but I think it's telling that Laudna phrased both events as, specifically, a betrayal. 'I can't be betrayed again,' as she drains the life from Bor'dor (as opposed to, say, Orym's attitude toward killing Bor'dor, which was less 'we need to kill him because he betrayed us' and more 'this is a grim necessity, because we are at war.') Ashton does something incredibly ill-judged, and Laudna's interepretation of it is 'they betrayed us.'
Orym takes Otohan's sword, and Laudna sees it, again, as a personal affront. She challenges him for having the audacity to carry it. The sword killed her. (It also killed half the people in the room, including Orym.)
Something... something about how Laudna saw Ashton trying to absorb a powerful magical artefact because he'd convinced himself it was the right thing to do, and felt so injured that she ran into the forest for a night. Something about how Laudna tried to absorb a magical artefact because she'd convinced herself that it was the right thing to do, and felt injured by Orym's defiance.
I don't have a clear point here; Laudna isn't a character I've studied as closely as some others (and I would very much appreciate anyone who has been analysing her more deeply offering any input!) But one thought I had is this: Laudna once said that the worst thing that could have happened to her has already happened. And I think maybe Laudna sees what happened to her as the worst thing that could happen to anyone. It seems hard for her to understand how much the actions of those around her - be it Bor'dor being radicalised, Ashton going about their attempt to understand themself in entirely the wrong way, Orym trying to reclaim a painful piece of his past and turn it into a promise - can be rooted in a pain that might be equal to her own.
Of course, it's hard to tell how much of it is Laudna at this point and how much is Delilah, but... honestly, it is such a bold choice for Marisha to do this. Because this is what trauma does. It makes things feel personal that might not be directed at you at all. It makes your grief into an enormous monolith that towers over your life, and can overshadow, in your head, anyone else's. It makes you want to protect yourself in every way possible when a flicker of it occurs again.
And... I think it's another sign of how much Delilah is taking from Laudna. Because who in this story has been fixated on their own grief and loss, to the point of ignoring the pain they cause in their attempt to fix that loss at any cost, than Delilah Briarwood?

Hallmark Exes FAQ!
in light of part 2 being out soon, Iā€™ll be making a little separate FAQ post about them for some backstory info and so i donā€™t have to keep answering the same questions lolā€”so send in any questions you have and Iā€™ll answer them in the FAQ!
before getting into the questions, however, I want to clarify something.
Levi and Xavier are my characters. this is my story. while it was prompted by another postā€”and I encourage everyone who wants to to write their own versions of the prompt!!ā€”it is not a collaborative project. Iā€™ve had multiple separate issues with people wanting to write their own part 2s, and while I really do appreciate that the story resonated so much and inspired people enough to want to add to it, actually doing so and posting it is rude, disrespectful, and a shitty thing to do.
to be clear, Iā€™m not mad at or trying to target any of these people. I know there were no malicious intentions behind it, but my feelings about it remain the same.
Iā€™m not a published author. nobody knows Levi and Xavier are my characters. if someone were to stumble across the original piece and a part 2 someone added without my consent, theyā€™d have no way to know that thatā€™s not canon. any additional info that person decides to include in their writing muddies the waters when I inevitably contradict it, because Levi and Xavierā€™s story is so much more fleshed out in my head than what Iā€™ve shared on tumblr.
so I guess please just keep that in mind. please donā€™t hijack my story. it feels weird that I have to say this in the first place, but here we are.
and if youā€™re about to say something like ā€œbut jester, itā€™s a compliment, it's not that big of a deal! besides, itā€™s just a tumblr story, itā€™s not that serious!ā€ I just want to say this: when a writer posts the first chapter of their book or fic on tumblr or ao3 or wattpad or wherever else, do you decide to take it upon yourself to write chapter 2 and post it as if thatā€™s the continuation of the story? no, you wouldnā€™t, because thatā€™s rude as fuck. this isnā€™t any different.
ANYWAY. thanks for reading, sorry for the serious post about my silly goofy gay story, donā€™t forget about any questions you may have :)

Protective Rage Obi-Wan Fic
So. @fanfic-obsessed has this cool Protective Rage Obi-Wan story idea that yall should check out because it's really good and they've got a ton of cool AU ideas. And I had an idea about an apology scene for it and then the plot bunny that makes you do things like overcomplicate worldbuilding said "you know you could do a whole fic" and now I have 4000 words. I was thinking of splitting it up into parts cause that's a long post but frankly I'm tired and should've been in bed like 90min ago cause I have work tomorrow and mornings suck so it's staying a one shot with the paragraphs spaces cause I am NOT reformatting that now. Enjoy.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Usually, when Quinlanā€™s pushing himself to finish a mission through this much pain, heā€™s running on determination, maybe some spite. This time itā€™s desperation.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Heā€™s not sure if the shouting starts before or after he hits the door panel ā€“ or maybe itā€™s been going on the whole time ā€“ but he can see Obi-Wan through the spots in his eyes and thatā€™s good, thatā€™s good, he canā€™t finish this and maybe his friend can ā€“
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œQuin!ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Itā€™s like leaning on stone, Obi-Wanā€™s mind wonderfully shielded under the worry in his voice and Quinlan holds up a datachip for the hands around his arms. ā€œCoded. Please.ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œIā€™ll take care of it. I promise.ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Heā€™s staring up at the ceiling now but thatā€™s alright. Obi-Wan has the data. Quinlan can break now.*
Ahsoka isnā€™t panicking, but only because sheā€™s had a lot of practice keeping her head and sheā€™s not friends with Master Vos. Sheā€™s met him though, and knows Obi-Wan and he are close, and sheā€™s scared for him.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œThatā€™s an order Marrow!ā€ Obi-Wan snaps and the medic someone called hisses in frustration from where Ahsokaā€™s holding him back. She isnā€™t sure why Obi-Wanā€™s so adamant that no one get closer to them, but she knows itā€™s serious. For all Obi-Wan hates the medbay heā€™ll work with the medics, let them see him elsewhere, and he knows better than to keep serious injuries from them.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œGeneral his leg is gangrenous if he doesnā€™t get immediate treatment he could lose it! As the head medic-ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œQuin has to be seen by a Temple healer anyone else will make it worse. I donā€™t like it anymore than you do Marrow.ā€ Heā€™s resting a hand on Master Vosā€™ head and is holding his hand with the other, trying to sooth his mumbling friend.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œCan you explain why while we wait for Healer Eerin?ā€ She asked.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Obi-Wan frowns, the look he gets when heā€™s trying to figure out how to explain something Force-related in English. ā€œMarrow. The troopers who have trouble with excessive sound. If they were injured would you treat them in a noisy medbay?ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Marrow scowls, but he stops splitting his attention between Master Vosā€™ leg and how best to get around Ahsoka and says, ā€œOf course not. Not if there was any way to avoid it.ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œQuinā€™s psychometric. Itā€™s a useful skill, but sometimes itā€™s like Force hypersensitivity.ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Cody interrupts as Anakin enters. ā€œHealer Eerin just arrived. Sheā€™s being escorted here.ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œAny idea what happened?ā€ Anakin says. Heā€™s waiting by Ahsoka, whether because he already knows approaching is a bad idea or because he got the gist from the way the medics havenā€™t gotten closer is anyoneā€™s guess.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œHave to keep them safe.ā€ Master Vos mutters and Obi-Wanā€™s face tightens, though his shields are still rock-solid.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œWho Quin? Who do you need to keep safe?ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  But Master Vos never stopped talking, only just loud enough to be heard. Heā€™s shivering too, voice breaking with groans. Whatever he was doing to walk on that leg ā€“ Ahsoka is very determinedly not looking at the swelling or the white that might be bone ā€“ he clearly canā€™t keep it up anymore. ā€œGotta keep them safe from the people and the senators and the Chancellor gotta do something useful with my unnatural powers what good are we if we canā€™t keep them safe apparently nothing I hoped I hoped I wasnā€™t gonna get my heart broken again I Obi they deserve better than this-ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  His words are cut off by the sound of the door opening as Healer Eerin and a Padawan healer sweep into the room in unfamiliar robes and go instantly to the downed Jedi. Marrow scowls heavy as thunder at not being able to treat a patient on his ship as they do, Healer Eerin passing something to Obi-Wan as she takes his place by Master Vosā€™ head. Obi-Wan squeezes his hand and stands, moving in line with the troopers around them so that he can slide the chip into the device and examine whatever Master Vos was so desperate to bring him.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œPop quiz Padawan Lele. Why do we use special gear for Master Vos?ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Padawan Lele didnā€™t stop what they were doing as they replied: ā€œBecause his psychometry is super strong and the pain has seriously damaged his shields. Without the robes or equally strong shields heā€™ll feel too much of our minds and memories as well. This could delay his healing or damage his mind.ā€
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Marrow goes stiff and Ahsoka thinks thatā€™s the first time sheā€™s seen him look sheepish.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  For a few minutes, the room is a quiet tension, little sound aside from the Healers working or Master Vosā€™ delirious mumbling, fading in and out of hearing. Codyā€™s giving him the same worried look Ahsoka is, Master Vos sounds like his heart is as broken as his leg and she knows enough about how people work to think that the amount of self-deprecation she can hear isnā€™t a new thing.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  The rage, when it comes, is sudden as a lightning bolt and just as sharp. Itā€™s gone just as quickly too ā€“ almost before Ahsoka and the other Padawan finish whipping around to stare at Obi-Wan who looks perfectly calm. Codyā€™s looking at him too, narrow-eyed in suspicion.
ā€œExcuse me.ā€ He says, still perfectly calm, and Ahsoka thinks of the weight of a sky prepared to burst and wonders if she should follow him, but the door is closed before she can decide.
ā€œBeen a while since I saw Obi-Wan get that angry.ā€ Healer Eerin remarks.
ā€œHuh?ā€ Several of the troopers say. Anakin does too and the day has not been nearly overwhelming enough for Ahsoka not to role her eyes at how her oblivious master can lift a tank but not read anger when itā€™s shoved in his face.
ā€œA little after Anakin first came to the Temple one of the teachers decided he was a poor fit for the Order and was trying to sabotage his work along with bullying him in class. Obi-Wan found out, asked Quin to watch Anakin for an evening, and went after the teacher. The man landed in the Halls of Healing with several broken bones and left as soon as he was cleared to move left for the furthest jedi outpost he could find. If he ever taught again I will be very surprised. Commander heā€™s safe to move but it would help if we had a clear path to the door.ā€
ā€œYouā€™re gonna catch flies Skyguy.ā€ Ahsoka says faintly as Cody taps his comm to pass on the message. When heā€™s finished they all hear the trooper on the other end say, ā€œBy the way sir General Kenobi just left for Coruscantā€™s surface, said he had some business to attend to at the Senate.ā€
Cody nods, wearing the expression of concern and exasperation he gets whenever anyone he feels remotely responsible for does something dangerous without explaining why. ā€œCheck and see if thereā€™s a way to find out what theyā€™re doing.ā€ He orders Crys as the Healers begin to maneuver Master Vos through the door.
ā€œItā€™s one of the sessions journalists are reporting live sir.ā€ Crys answers, pulling up the feed without needing to be asked, and they all group together to watch it.
*
Obi-Wan is, to put it bluntly, really fucking pissed. The anger in him pools like water, building and building, and he wills himself to keep calm control as he strides through the Senate building. If he gets too angry to think, things will go wrong.
Quinlan came to him because the things that had already gone wrong were even worse than any of them had been allowed to see, and he couldnā€™t fix it himself. He came to Obi-Wan for help putting things right.
Obi-Wan will be damned thrice over if he fails that mission.
Heā€™s already sent the information on the datachip to the Council (though he doesnā€™t know when theyā€™ll be able to see it), to all of the Commanders he has the contact information for (heā€™s not sure which of them made those particular lines of contact so secure but he trusts Codyā€™s view of them), and Madame Nu. They canā€™t afford to let this stay between the two of them, they need the backup. He knows the Council cares, is struggling as much as he is under the weight of the war, and the Commanders deserve to know and can keep their secrets. He includes Madame Nu because he doubts anyone would expect it, and the few interactions heā€™d seen between her and her single squad of troopers made him certain she adores them.
Plus, she studies Sith Temples. Sheā€™s gotta be more dangerous than she looks.
He walks into the rotunda where the Senate are debating the (very reasonable heā€™s read this one) Clone Rights bill, sees Palpatine, and allows his rage to fuel his leap for the podium.
ā€œTell me,ā€ He says, cool as can be, as he smashes Palpatineā€™s face into the stand and kicks Amedda away when the asshole tries to interfere, ā€œwhat the fuck the jedi did to you that you want our children murdered in their cribs?ā€
Order 66. Kill all the jedi. All of them.
ā€œWho the fuck gave you the right to have an army bred and implant them all with control chips so that they couldnā€™t disobey, couldnā€™t be allowed to even think?ā€
Control chips that would wipe out the troopersā€™ minds, take away every thought and feeling and every piece of self that theyā€™d fought to keep, chips that would turn the troopers his friends into the flesh droids senators liked to claim they were.
Palpatine snarled and shot off lightning. Obi-Wan deflected it and continued to ignore the screaming as he mused that perhaps Palpatine had decided there was no point in hiding when Obi-Wan was broadcasting these secrets to the Senate. Then he punched Palpatine below his sternum and then his ribs.
Ah, red lightsaber. There it is. He ducked and broke Palpatineā€™s arm.
ā€œAnd while weā€™re at it, who the fuck allowed you to use those chips to control the Coruscant Guard and make them do your dirty work? Or withhold rations and bacta?ā€
Itā€™s entirely possible he shouldnā€™t have included the information about the blackout missions and the extent of Palpatineā€™s control over the clones. That might have been the kind of thing theyā€™d want to share themselves. Unless they couldnā€™t say anything?
ā€œEven for the Sith youā€™re an exceptionally twisted shitstain.ā€ He ducks the other lightsaber and wonders why this asshole had to learn to fight with two.
ā€œYou forced my family at blaster point to lead a war you orchestrate from both sides, forced our friends into slavery and now you want to take away everything our friends are when you use them to kill us and frankly Palpatine, I think the fuck not!ā€
The red lightsaber screams in his hand as he slices Palpatineā€™s head clean off.
*
Obi-Wan frowns as he takes in the scene. Huh, Ameddaā€™s still here and oh thatā€™s Master Windu and Master Yoda in the audience. He supposes some Jedi witnesses are a good idea. He grabs Amedda by the front of his robes and uses the Force to help him hold the heavy asshole over the edge of the podium with one hand, just to make sure he gets the point.
ā€œNow you may have gathered that Iā€™m very concerned about the clone troopersā€™ lack of rights. What about you?ā€
It turns out that Amedda is also very concerned about the clone troopersā€™ lack of rights. Good. ā€œFull Republic citizenship and Senate representation that they elect instead of someone who make money off their bodies would be good too.ā€ Obi-Wan adds, looking the Senator from Kamino dead in the eye. Heā€™s pretty sure sheā€™s calculating the distance between him and her pod when she nods.
If Obi-Wan had known all it would take to get his friends their rights was the public murder of one of his least favorite people, heā€™d have done that at the beginning of this thrice-damned war. The bill is passed very quickly and unanimously, and a couple Senators add a bit about backpay theyā€™d had in the works as well and make some noise about allowing the clones to settle a moon or planet once they have the time to look the uninhabited ones over. That gets less enthusiasm but itā€™s not being shouted down and they can work with that, so Obi-Wan grins with all his teeth on display and says ā€œIā€™m glad I only had to kill one politician today.ā€
The fear that ripples through the Force is unmistakable.
He puts Amedda down and heads to the Senate floor where the Coruscant Guard are waiting. Their shields arenā€™t bad but thereā€™s awe shinning through them like sunshine in the dessert, bright and warm and painful with the twisting of old griefs and pains and shocked relief, and Obi-Wan says ā€œI assume Iā€™m going to be arrested?ā€
One of the men, who wears the rank of a Commander, takes of his helmet and asks, ā€œPermission to speak freely sir?ā€
ā€œGranted, forever and always.ā€
The man beams, and answers; ā€œThen with all due respect sir, there is no way weā€™re going to arrest you.ā€
ā€œAre you sure? I did just beat the Chancellor of the Republic to death.ā€
ā€œAbso-fucking-lutely. Everyone on the Guard wants him dead within their first week here.ā€
ā€œThorn put your helmet back on, weā€™re not safe unless that lawā€™s enforced.ā€ Someone snaps and a different Commander approaches, leading Master Windu and Master Yoda. His shields are beskar-strong, but judging by his voice Obi-Wan would bet heā€™s glaring at Thorn.
ā€œIā€™m feeling a bit spiteful.ā€ Thorn grins and Fox gives that familiar huff that usually means the trooper in question is rolling their eyes underneath their helmet.
ā€œDonā€™t look at us like that weā€™re not locking you up either.ā€ Mace says dryly when Obi-Wan looks at him. ā€œI will however, make sure your Padawan gets mindhealing sessions if I have to drag him there kicking and screaming myself. Heā€™s overdue anyway.ā€
Obi-Wan winces but agrees. Quin hadnā€™t found solid proof of Palpatine grooming Anakin to be his Sith apprentice, but the information he had found made him suspicious. And once he read that, Obi-Wan can see a lot of things that support it.
Windu pulls him into a hug, startling Obi-Wan. The other Master doesnā€™t often want a lot of physical contact, and for him to initiate hugs is unusual. He sinks into it.
ā€œDo you know how Quinlan is? Bant had to take him to the Halls.ā€
Windu shook his head. ā€œIā€™ll ask.ā€
ā€œTo the Temple we will go after, inform everyone, and let you see your friend.ā€ Yoda adds.
ā€œVos?ā€
Obi-Wan blinks at the stern commander. His shields are still thick but every single one of the other Guards are radiating concern and Obi-Wan wonders if Quinlan started this investigation because it was the Guard he wanted to protect.
ā€œHe found the information on Palpatine and brought it to me. He was seriously injured and delirious when I left him with the Healers.ā€ The Commander twitches, just barely visible, and Obi-Wan asks, ā€œIā€™m sorry, I donā€™t know your name?ā€
ā€œCommander Fox.ā€
ā€œVos looked out for us.ā€ Commander Thorn adds when itā€™s clear Fox isnā€™t going to continue. ā€œHe did his best to keep civilians off our backs, brought us bacta, snacks, and sweets when he could, tried to make us laugh. Heā€™s our jedi even if it wasnā€™t official. But we havenā€™t seen him in weeks.ā€
Obi-Wan nods in understanding, then turns as Mace looks up.
ā€œHeā€™s in a coma. I can tell you more on the way, I trust the Guard but I donā€™t want to say this in the open.ā€
ā€œIā€™m coming.ā€ Commander Fox states and Commander Thorn nods.
ā€œAnd perhaps a couple of the men. So we know how heā€™s doing?ā€
ā€œI was going to ask one of you if you wanted to come. One would probably be best for now, I donā€™t know if the Healers are allowing visitors.ā€
ā€œJust Fox then. Iā€™ll watch out for our vode.ā€ Thorn knocks his forehead gently against Foxā€™s, murmurs something none of them can hear, and leads the rest of the Guards away. The Jedi and single Commander push through the crowds and pile into a transport.
ā€œDetails Mace.ā€
Itā€™s a sign of how serious it is that Mace doesnā€™t respond to the tone with a raised brow or eyeroll. ā€œThe gangrene is too serious; they have to amputate his leg at the knee. They arenā€™t sure how far he fell to break it that badly, but they know itā€™s been untreated for days. Best guess is he was running from someone and couldnā€™t find a place or the time to take care of it. Heā€™s got some bruising and infected cuts on top of that which makes things worse, but theyā€™re pretty sure they can deal with those. However. Heā€™s not responding well to the healing. Itā€™s not physical, itā€™s something mental. They arenā€™t sure what happened.ā€
Obi-Wan takes a deep breath and exhales shakily. Mace grips his shoulder till he stops quivering and asks slowly, ā€œDo you have any idea what exactly happened the past few days?ā€
ā€œHe was almost completely out of it when he got to me.ā€ Obi-Wan murmurs. ā€œHe, he said a lot of bad things about himself and a few things that reminded me about how some people talk about the Force. You know, when people call us or our skills unnatural. He wanted to protect someone, Iā€™m not sure if it was the Jedi or the Coruscant Guard or someone else.ā€
The rest of the ride is quiet and tense.
*
Cody meets his general and general Windu at the hanger and finds himself, once again, relieved heā€™s wearing his armor. Heā€™s not sure heā€™d survive his general finding out about the highly inappropriate reaction he had to the sight of his General beating up the Chancellor of the Republic on behalf of the troopers. His only consolation is the fact that heā€™s absolutely sure all the vode that arenā€™t asexual had the same reaction.
He is surprised to see Fox there, he hasnā€™t spoken to him in too long, and when he had Fox had been exhausted and tense. Heā€™s been getting worried. He falls into step beside Fox as Obi-Wan updates him on the situation and waits till thereā€™s no one near their group and murmurs, ā€œYou can take off the helmet if you want Fox. I promise theyā€™re safe.ā€
Fox pauses, then yanks off his helmet almost violently. Thereā€™s more grey in his hair than there was last time, and a pair of scabbed-over cuts on his cheekbone. He looks like he was tired to the bone last week and hadnā€™t gotten any sleep this week.
ā€œFox-ā€
ā€œShut up.ā€ Fox snaps, almost quiet enough to be missed by the generals, and Cody hesitates but thinks of Fox coming here to check on a severely injured jedi and decides to wait.
The Healer tells them that they can see Vos, but that they must be quiet and keep calm. The handful of Codyā€™s men that followed him wait so itā€™s Cody, Fox, Obi-Wan, and Windu that follow the healer into the room, Cody to offer moral support to his general as needed.
ā€œCommander!ā€ The healer yelps in alarm as Fox pushes past her, stripping off his glove and reach for the Generalā€™s limp hand, and Cody thinks of Obi-Wan using a rare order to keep Marrow at a distance and wonders what the hell Fox is thinking before Vos twitches, bare fingers curving towards where Fox has his fingers laid gently on his palm.
The healer scowled and examined the machines Vos was hooked up to. ā€œThe rest of you, no touching. Keep calm. You,ā€ she pointed at Fox, who ignores her, heartbreak plain as day on his face ā€œdonā€™t move.ā€
Cody stays near the door, watching. Obi-Wanā€™s eyes have flicked towards Fox a couple times, but mostly heā€™s focused on General Vos. Windu is the opposite. The healer finishes examining the machines and holds her hand above Vosā€™ forehead, before making quiet excuses and leaving.
She comes back with Healer Eerin who preforms the same examination. ā€œAnything wrong?ā€ Obi-Wan asks.
ā€œI donā€™t think so but Iā€™m staying for the next 20 minutes to watch.ā€
Itā€™s twenty minutes later that Healer Eerin kicks all of them out to eat except for Fox, who she brings a chair for. ā€œI donā€™t know why, but your presence if helping him heal. Iā€™m sure you have things to do but if itā€™s possible for you to stay a little-ā€
ā€œIā€™m not leaving him.ā€ Fow states, and Cody thinks of General Vosā€™s words on the bridge and heartbreak that hasnā€™t left his face and thinks oh.
They leave the door open when they go just for a bit, and Cody can tell Obi-Wan had the same idea as him because thereā€™s concern and something that could become anger on his face. General Winduā€™s as inscrutable as always but Codyā€™s heard enough from Ponds to know the man takes threats to the jedi seriously. He shushes his troopers outside and waits.
ā€œIā€™m sorry.ā€
Itā€™s enough time that Cody had wondered if Fox was gonna stay silent and the shaking in his voice alarms him almost as much as the words. ā€œI didnā€™t mean it I promise Quinlan. It was just a bad day and I snapped Iā€™m sorry. You force-damned idiot it must have been days to find that and get so injured you know the Guard wouldā€™ve done anything they could for you even if I was being an asshole, you think Thorn didnā€™t smack me around the head when I told him? Youā€™re our jedi Quinlan and we need you to wake up, I need you to wake up I canā€™t apologize properly if youā€™re sleeping, please, the Guardā€™s lost too many people please donā€™t let us loose our crazy jedi too.ā€
Fox is crying by the end of that, shaky sobs that scratch his throat, and Cody hits the panel to shut the door and turns to the two jedi.
ā€œWell that answers that question.ā€ Windo states. ā€œI think the Commander will be there a while.ā€
ā€œIf it helps Quinlan heal I canā€™t speak against it.ā€ Obi-Wan muttered. He slumps into a chair, exhausted. ā€œItā€™s been a day. Who wants to eat?ā€
ā€œI do.ā€ Cody says. ā€œAnd then I want to head to the barracks and make Thorn tell me whatā€™s been going on with Fox, because I feel like Iā€™m missing something important.ā€
*
Things get better after that, some slowly, some quickly. The Separatists decide itā€™s in their best interests to surrender to General Kenobi, and the war wraps up quickly with some planets staying separate and many arrests in the leadership (interestingly, a lot of crime groups that deal with jedi more than they would like to also decide to go clean after that footage. Whoā€™dā€™ve thought?). The troopers learn about their new home with glee and throw themselves into learning how to be things other than soldiers with a mix of joy and apprehension. It takes time for the Coruscant Guard to be fully comfortable with their other brothers, but itā€™s something that the rest of the troopers work on furiously when they learn how hellish Coruscant had been for them. Anakin gets so much therapy (as do many other people) and the Jedi use time they have now that the warā€™s over to start distancing themselves a bit from the Senate, trying to ensure that they canā€™t be forced to lead an army again.
Fox is there when Quinlan wakes up, asleep and holding Quinlanā€™s hand and there are tears and apologies and promises. The Guard cheers when they get their general back because they love their crazy jedi as much as the other battalions. And the clones and jedi start to heal together.

And with that, 2000 years of history and 10+ years of an animated adaption later, Attack on Titan is over.
I wasn't planning on making an essay post about this but like all of my essay posts, it got crazy out of hand, so here we are. I have a lot to say on it and the more I wrote, the more I realized exactly what the Attack on Titan finale was about. It's cathartic. It's also kind of a big shitpost but not for the reasons you might think.
Spoilers for the Attack on Titan finale ahead! CW: DISCUSSION OF WAR AND GENOCIDE AHEAD!
Now for anyone who knows what I'm about to talk about (and anyone who follows my stuff here), I'm sure you're wondering , what side do I fall on in regards to Attack on Titan's ending? Am I about to talk shit about it? It's very divisive and somewhat inconclusive. It followed the exact ending in the manga which, while expected, was still disappointing to many who had hoped the anime would take some other path.
But I have to ask, could there have been any other way?
Eren committed mass genocide, bordering on extinction of the entire human race. There was no way that he was gonna come out of it redeemed or as a hero, and he knew it. He went straight up Walter White core here and like Walter White, he is not a hero.
Tumblr media
The fact that the Marlayans have been constantly going to war with other countries using Eldians as their personal soldiers goes to show that for countries that seek out conquest, there's no target too small or insignificant that can't be marked as an "enemy", and we see that reflected in Eren as well, in his pursuing of "freedom", an ever-moving goalpost that can never truly be satisfied.
The Jaegerists were hellbent on creating a new empire on the bloodshed of Marley - 'an eye for an eye', so to speak.
Nothing was ever going to truly satisfy either 'side' in the conflict of humanity vs. Eldians because such conflicts' origins have been obfuscated in hundreds of years of history, propaganda, and generational trauma that has repeated itself for so long that many don't even know what they're fighting for anymore, aside from one thing - that they don't want to suffer, that they shouldn't have to suffer for the actions of their ancestors, that they want peace and happiness but don't know where to start with taking the first step.
I think people are disappointed in this ending because, let's face it, it's anime, and it's an anime adaption that took years to finish. We always want to see some kind of vindication from stories like these, but I think in having vindication, it ultimately removes the point altogether of what's being said.
As much as we may try to fight it, try to deny it, the course of human history travels in a circle. Conflict will always arise. History is written by the victors, and those victors will be seen as heroes by whichever side they're fighting for regardless of what heinous acts they may have committed to justify their salvation. And after all of that conflict, regardless of the result - time goes on, and new conflicts arise.
But I don't think that means we have to succumb to grief and suffering and that's a point that I'm seeing missed in a lot of the discussion around the finale. There's a very powerful scene between Armin and Zeke, in which Armin talks about how he was born to run up the hill with Mikasa and Eren. He recognizes fully that if his life isn't meant to be long, he can still cherish those small moments that he thinks back on fondly, the moments that defined his life with the people he cared about.
And that's really all life is. Small moments and experiences that stick with us until the end. The very act of being born in and of itself is a cosmic miracle that gives us the chance to experience things that bring us joy and stay with us forever - however short or long that 'forever' may be. We take these small moments for granted when we're comfortable, but we look for them the most when we're suffering.
If I can relate all this to another piece of media that says the same thing - albeit with a much brighter ending - FF XIV: Endwalker also asks a similar question to Attack on Titan - is the only meaning in life to suffer and die? Of course, by its end, we learn that while death and suffering is an inevitable part of life - not something that should be avoided - it shouldn't persuade us to give in to fear and despair as a constant state of being. And I think Attack on Titan goes for a very similar approach, albeit slightly more as a cautionary tale - a nihilistic reminder that ultimately, the losses and victories we find in our current point of history are still just that, a single point, a blip that will be forgotten until it's ultimately repeated, and there's no escaping that.
It cautions us that freedom cannot exist without constant vigilance for war and conflict. It cautions us that our values and core beliefs for attaining freedom, love and happiness can be twisted into a weapon to cause harm, vindication gained at the cost of another. It cautions us that when left in the wrong hands, power can and will be abused by the ignorant while propagandizing itself as "the greater good".
So why not just find the joy that we can? The friendships, the little moments, the things that bring us happiness even if only temporary. Conflict is inevitable, suffering is inevitable, but that doesn't mean life isn't worth living. "Happiness" is not a tangible end point - it's the side effect of living a meaningful life that's true to yourself.
Attack on Titan is over. Some will argue the ending was the only way, others will argue that there could have been another way and that the anime adaption had the chance to change it but still didn't for reasons beyond their comprehension.
But isn't that the whole point? We'll argue. We'll bargain. Many of the arguments made will reinforce our own beliefs further rather than sway us. Many of us will insist there had to be another way, just as Armin insisted that this couldn't have been the only way, that humanity must have had another option. Meanwhile, many of us will acknowledge that at the end of the day, this is the story Isayama wanted to tell, and regardless of whether or not it makes him an idiot toying with his audience and admitting defeat by lampshading it in the penultimate scene of Eren admitting to his own idiocy, this was the power given to him and he used it in the best way he knew how.
Much like in any conflict, there's one thing that unites both sides - the human need for joy, connection, and freedom.
We might not agree on how Attack on Titan ended, but we can agree that it was a hell of a ride, and I hope we can all agree that it was worth riding, even if it wasn't satisfying for everyone in the end. It brought many people together regardless of their backgrounds, experiences, and differences, and connected them through something they all loved for over ten years. And despite how big a part of our lives it was, life will still go on, and we'll move on to other things to watch, enjoy, and argue over. Isayama will move on to whatever awaits him next, knowing fully well that his choice was his own, that he created the series he wanted to create regardless of how people feel about it. We'll all look for our own forms of joy and happiness as life moves on around us, as conflicts come and go.
Isn't that really what freedom is at the end of the day?

in hindsight, when i first saw bad explaining lore to forever during that legendary 16 hour stream and bad had already, in the early days of brazil, previously established a routine of saying like "ok!" or whatever to the daily server restart message (a message that was early enough in his time zone that he definitely would not have slept and woken up to greet it) SHOULD have clued me in to the fact that this guy never fucking sleeps but holy shit can cucurucho non-canonically scare the fear of god back into him so his head touches the pillow for more than like thirty minutes like WHAT. i mean at this point i'd even suggest sending someone in the code monster skin to float there menacingly and then say in fuckin hatsune miku voice or like chipmunked audio just. "YOU'RE HALLUCINATING, BADBOYHALO. DRINKING WATER IS NOT ENOUGH. GO TO SLEEP."

What are your thoughts about the latest chapter of Dress up Darling?
Dress Up Darling is one of those manga where I am fully along for the ride, since I rarely know where the plots are taking me. I do know that this hiatus is going to kill me because I am dying for Gojo and Marin to actually have to interact alone.
It's always hard to say how much Gojo understands about his own feelings, but it's clear after Comiket that he does not feel entirely casual about his attraction to her. But it's hard to know if he's translated that into romantic feelings, or whether he's just going to be immensely guilty that he has any possessive feelings at all. He's always been big on saying that Marin is her own person, and he's always been so happy when people see how special she is...but this is definitely a different scale. And for different reasons! Marin comments that he's acting normal, but I'd say he's also pulled back quite a bit on his usual attentiveness towards her. Though it's hard to say if he's actually trying to create distance or like...is trying to seem like a totally normal and responsible guy in front of her dad šŸ¤£
For Marin's part, it's very interesting how disinterested she seems in all her new options. Famous directors and mangakas are praising her, she's front page on every cosplay forum, and there's people offering her jobs because of it...and she really can't summon up much enthusiasm. She's much more worried what this all means for her and Gojo, and it makes her...oddly subdued. Which might also be because of her dad being around!
It'll be hard to say what the long-lasting implications of this whole arc is going to be until they actually have to exist together without anyone else to smooth things over. But things definitely seem...awkward.

So for those of you who are anime only and/or haven't read the actually "Perfect Day For Bananafish" story by J.D. Salinger, Meredith's version here in the manga is far more accurate to the actual short story than what he says in the anime. ("If you see a bananafish at sea, you'll suddenly feel like dying.")
If you're anime only, you might have also wondered why Ash (who's later portrayed as a bit of a bookworm) has never heard of this story. (We'll assume that he never Googled it because of the manga taking place when Google didn't exist and the anime not wanting to deal with the plot hole lmao.)
There are a couple things I want to point out with this. First, what Ash is outright saying: "I was always more into Hemingway. A short happy life." This is uhhh not subtle. Ash is pretty clearly expressing his desire for exactly what happens at the end of his own life -- his life is short, but he finally finds happiness. And if you think that Ash is referring to a life that is short but entirely happy, keep in mind that "The Snows of Kilimanjaro," which Ash describes in the show, was written by Hemingway. Here, when describing Hemingway's work, he's talking about that leopard. He already knows he's gone too far to turn back.
This is in contrast to the protagonist of "Perfect Day for Bananafish," whose story more parallels Griffin at first glance: a war vet who gets out of a psychiatric hospital and dies after being "rescued" but not fully by a child, never really recovering from his experiences. However, as the namesake of the manga itself, we of course see Ash in the "Perfect Day" story as well -- especially in that Ash willingly walked toward his own death (as did the "Perfect Day" protagonist) whereas Hemingway's "Kilimanjaro" protagonist dies of infection against his will (more similar to Griffin -- or, alternatively, Shorter).
Both stories end in a protagonist dying prematurely, but Ash directly tells us that he's actively seeking out a short, happy life, rather than a drawn out one. To quote the second ending theme, RED by Survive Said the Prophet: "If I decide to burn instead of fading out ..."
If you've been following me for any time at all, you know that I disagree with the message that the end of the Banana Fish manga sends with Ash's death. That being said, I do think that it's what Ash wanted, and what he told the readers that he wanted from the very start. I simply think that Ash was incorrect about it being too late for him to turn back, and that it's irresponsible for the Banana Fish manga to end without him realizing that.

sometimes i remember the hunger games and how nobody actually paid attention to what was in those books
#americans close your eyes and ears right now#i'm well aware that my political takes are way too spicy for you all#and i really do wish my media diet didn't contain so much us-centric shit#but alas we're all suffering here#and i could say that 'oh actually it does matter who your president is for us in the world'#but it doesn't. it really fucking doesn't. that's kind of the point.#oh i'm sorry my spicy takes are already starting#anyway it is wild that you all can understand katniss assassinating coin at the end of mockingjay#but get super upsetty that chappell roan won't support your favorite presidential candidate with her full chest#like come on none of you actually thought that her using the phrase both sides meant that she was a republican or even a centrist#that's just copium#you all knew exactly what she meant#but i guess encouraging people to think critically and get involved with their local elections and politics as well is... bad now?#also... why do you all care so much about a random pop star's opinion and whether or not she dares to criticize a government#like... she's right but i'm sure 5 years from now if she survives in the limelight her edges will be completely chipped away#by all this insane reaction#and before anyone comes for me... no i'm not saying you shouldn't vote. please fucking do.#neither am i saying you shouldn't vote strategically or encourage other people to do so#but if all your energy is spent policing people who criticize your chosen party because of their own principles#then there's something seriously wrong with your politics#and all you're signalling is that you truly do not fucking care about the issues that they care about#if anything..... you RESENT them#and then the same people bring up the parable of the 'unjust man'#or how it's never the right time to talk about gun violence in your country#harm reduction is all good and based but attacking people who are leveraging their support to push your party left#is not. it's not even fucking helpful#anyway. don't base your lives and politics around pop stars.#even if they are more based than you šŸ¤·#i think i'm done now thank you tumblr for letting me have insane rants in my tags that hopefully no one reads#idk i just find this all depressing. i wish you all cared more about the world outside of your bubble. i wish we all did - myself included.

every time i see anything saying shara's eyes are concave and/or don't move and the camera tracking is just an illusion i feel a little more of my sanity slip. its eyes do move. you could say that its eyes moving was actually quite highlighted in the post-fight cutscene. you also watch it stare down the hunters and then do the smooth eye tracking to ruiner nergigante. it's not that hard in a game to set the camera as the thing the eyes track. shara's just Like That.

(some) Main characters in anime will come to you and say: I had a dad past. My mom died.
(some) And then villains in animes would say: I also had a sad past. I had to jump in a volcano to save my brother who died in my arms and then was reincarnated as a vampire who sought revenge for killing his family but soon I witness his death (suicide) because he realized everything comes to an end and I tried to start a new life, but everything else just keeps spiraling down hill and nothing good ever happened ever since my brother died. My parents also hates me for no reason because my brother's death and now I have to suffer the consequences. I'm all alone and have nowhere to go to. No one to accompany me. I'm all alone.
