A max power waterbending master (basically Katara on steroids) would be soo scary.
Like: you have basic waterbending stuff which includes changing water into ice and controlling steam (I wonder if a waterbender could change water into steam just like they turn water into ice?); then you have healing which lets you bounce back from almost any injury (like how Katara instantly healed her 3rd degree burned hands by dipping them into a river for a few seconds); then you have plantbending which is definitely more powerful then it appears (like controlling poisonous plants, or just taking the poison out of the plants and using it for waterbending XD); then you have overpowerd blood bending which can apparently remove people's bending and can be activated psychicly (our hypothetical waterbending master can wipe out entire armies by thinking); and last but not least, we have Spiritbending!!! Waterbenders can bend spirits to their will!!!
To be a max power waterbender is to control all things that have a soul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Katara/Kya would have been so scary in LoK if that show didn't have sh*ty writers

Speculation for Aurora ocean adventures (when the comic gets there) bc I LOVE the ocean and I love ocean horrors and I am excited to see what thalassophobia nightmares Red inflicts upon us all
More Fun Drowning Facts from Erin about the deep sea and what's in it. Lore dumps are always fun
Depending on how they get there. Either creative uses of an air bubble to get down there, or an Auroraverse submarine.
Dainix having a Bad Time overall. Currently it's Erin's turn to go through the wringer, but soon enough it'll be Dainix's turn. Thalassophobia is fun
Cool Auroraverse ocean life! I wanna see cool whales and coral and bioluminescent life and sea turtles and stuff
Deep sea void monstrosities. I wanna see what nightmares The Twins put in the darkest corners of the world, I'm excited to see some interesting monster concepts
I know Kendal's metal bones make him going underwater a bad idea but here's an alt take. If they're already underwater anyway. Kendal takes advantage of his lack of need to breathe and does something cool that saves everyone
Someone almost drowns and has to be saved
Alinua plantbends seaweed
Mermaids! I wanna know how mermaids would factor into the story somehow
I have no clue what Dainix's arc has to do with ending up in the ocean, and I'm interested to find out how that plays out. I'm betting it involves the volcano somehow
This just turned into a list of things I'm excited to see huh

stuff about the taz atla au:
Taako and Lup are the last surviving air nomads (and by extension, elves). Lup is the Avatar. I established Taako as an airbender but I think it could go either way; if he's a nonbender, he's still got the high-dex rogue-y vibes of an airbender for any fighting.
Barry is a waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe, and the one who finds the twins. He's extremely unnaturally gifted at bloodbending, but shit at most other waterbending until they find a master. (He can bloodbend when it's not the full moon, but usually only to shift someone's balance, shove a limb, etc. Can be very handy when used right, though!)
Lup's hardest element is water. She has the instinct to directly blast stuff, which pushes against the give-and-take nature of waterbending. Once she gets it she likes making huge, scary, ocean-like waves. She's progressively faster at learning earthbending and, of course, firebending comes easiest & becomes a favorite.
Lucretia is also water tribe, probably in the North, though I would love for her to be friends with Barry somehow. She may not be a bender, but she's for sure attuned to spirits, especially the moon. Possibly the whole North Pole spirit imbalance is because of some well-intentioned thing she does while they're trying to repel the fire nation.
Prince Kravitz is trying to capture the Avatar but the Avatar's brother keeps flirting with him and it's very confusing. I don't know if I want to make the Raven Queen be the Firelord but if she's anyone she might be Ursa.
Kravitz is accompanied by Davenport (tell me captain "haven't we earned a little wrath" davenport isn't a firebender), a family member or close advisor who has been secretly a traitor/spy for like a decade. He's mostly coming along to keep his own eye on the Avatar and make sure she doesn't get captured or killed. White Lotus member.
Merle is a swamp waterbender with plantbending and, to everyone's shock in a dire moment, healing powers. He was a good friend of Lup's 100 years ago. Also White Lotus.
Magnus is an earthbender, Julia is a Kyoshi warrior. "Why isn't Magnus the token nonbender" well you see this whole thing is an elaborate AU of that one stretch of SC where Taako learned fighting and Magnus learned wizarding (joke)
Magnus is desperate to interact with spirits but is not attuned to them at all. He's excited to meet Lup because she is obviously the bridge to him getting to pet spirit dogs. Might have a pet dog or bear fusion variant.

Here are my other two Espilver fankids!!
I submitted Gloom for the @sonic-fankid-showdown ! hope she makes it in (and good luck to everyone else who submitted their characters! <3)
Here are my other fankids !
Info about these two under the cut~
-----
Gloom the Hedgehog - she/her, 16
-strength and "flight" type (she can carry herself with her powers)
-main ability is psychokinesis. She also has twin telepathy with her siblings (in the literal sense, lol)
-the oldest triplet (by about two minutes.) She DOES try to use this as leverage against her siblings
-other than the horns, she is 100% hedgehog!
Gloom has a LOT of energy- Saturn is the only one who can really keep up. She is very smart, but very forgetful. She is a lot more friendly than her siblings.
Gloom is VERY silly, but she's serious when she needs to be; when her sister isn't around for a fight, she takes the lead.
Her bracelets are similar to inhibitor rings; instead of constantly dampening her powers, they completely stop her from using them after a while. She has a hard time knowing her limits- she would use her powers until she passed out before Tails made the bracelets for her.
Her closets friends are her siblings and May (Blaze/Amy kid I haven't ha time to draw </3). She spends a lot of time with Cream, Charmy, Tails, and Sonic.
Her hobbies are gardening, collecting seashells, and video games (mostly fighting games.) She surfs, roller skates, and plays volley ball!
-----
Rowan the Hedgehog - they/them, 16
-speed type (not as fast as Sonic, similar endurance)
-they have plantbending abilities. They can move plants, cause them to grow, and revive dead plants. They *can* create plants, but they don't very often- it takes a lot of their energy. (They also have the aforementioned triplet telepathy)
-the middle triplet. They do have slight middle kid syndrome </3
Rowan is pretty quiet and stoic. They can be very blunt, and are only really kind to their friends and their friend's parents.
They aren't very close with their parents, preferring to spend time with their siblings, Jay, and Malachite. They're fairly close with Rouge, Tails, and Shadow.
They would never admit it, but they really admire their siblings- especially Umiko.
Rowan's hobbies are programming, video game design, reading, writing, and playing the violin. The only sport they like is volley ball (I wonder why lol)
#sonic the hedgehog#jello art tag#espio the chameleon#silver the hedgehog#espilver fankid#jello's fankid au#i was torn on who to submit tbh

Thinking about avatar and bending again. Honestly, I believe myself to be quite knowledgeable on the art of bending, but I still have so many questions.
So idk, I hope someone who understands better than me could give me some insight. Also, discussions around bending stiles are really fascinating.
So, I'll just list the ones we know for sure and then some ramblings and ideas I had.
Like last time, I'll go through the bending stiles based on the atla intro because I can.
Also, I'll be basing this on the rules set up in atla, not tlok. Just fyi.
Water
Waterbending (basic)
Swampbending - just bending swamp water? Can they turn it into ice as well? Don't know why they couldn't but we never saw that as far as I'm aware
Plantbending (?) - not sure if that's the name, but I'm referring to that one guy who bended vines in the swamp. About that, how far does that go? Just vines? I'm no plant expert but I'm sure there are a lot of plants that have the same amount of water in them like vines. So they should bend them too, shouldn't they? That seemingly doesn't take the power of the moon to do that as well.
Bloodbending - the good shit. Being able to control a living being by taking control over the water in their blood. Works only under the full moon (again, I'll be ignoring tlok for this). The question I have here is how far that goes. Theoretically, could they control a corpse? As long as it has blood in it still, of course. Again, I'm no doctor, so idk how long a person keeps their blood after death. Could they constrict the blood flow and make appendages die off? Clod a vein or so? Make someone experience a heartattack?
Sweatbending - bending sweat. Duh. But does that mean they can bend urine? I'm sure they can bend tears.
Cloudbending
They can suck out the water out of stuff as Hama shows Katara. So can they suck out the water out of people? Dry out our eyes? Idk, stuff like that. I don't know why they shouldn't be able to do so
Mistbending - I don't know if that's in the show tbh. But it should be pretty much like cloudbending so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Earth
First of all, I don't know what the fuck earth really is. Like I googled it, but I'm still confused. So if someone could clear that up for me, I would appreciate it a lot xD.
Earthbending (basic)
Sandbending
Metalbending - they should be able to bend weapons, right? Like swords. They can levitate swords. They can fight from a distance with a sword.
Lavabending
Crystalbending - I'm talking about Aang when they were in Ba Sing Se, when he made himself an armour out of the crystals. That opens the question on what earth really is. Like it's minerals, isn't it? Idk about that. But if you can bend minerals, that means they can bend a lot more, can't they? Again, they could make weapons with that and use them as I explained with metalbending.
Colebending - can they make diamonds out of them? I don't see why not, diamonds are just cole with a lot of pressure. But does that mean they could bend diamonds?
Mudbending - self-explanatory imo. But could they separate the earth part from the water? I think so
Glassbending - I've heard about this before from the fandom, but idk. Is glass the same as sand or does it change it's... uh... element? Idk. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Bonebending - I've heard that a few times as well but idk. As I said, I'm not sure what earth even is and I also don't know what bones are as well soo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Symmetric sense - don't know if it counts as bending tho
Fire
Firebending (basic)
Lightningbending
Combinationbending
Mistbending - I mean, mist is basically hot water right? So could they bend the heat there and bend the mist through that?
Heatbending - with that I mean being able to put heat into stuff and suck it out. I would say fire-breathing counts as well. Again, I don't see why they couldn't.
Lavabending - I would use the same explanation as for the mistbending. Again, idk if that would be possible, but it's a neat idea I've seen around the fandom a few times.
Chibending - this is something I'm again not sure about but hear me out: We got chi-blocking, granted, it's from Ty Lee and a lot of people theorise that she's an airbender decent so that could come from there. But at the same time, lightningbending and lightning redirection rely heavily on chi. So that gave me the idea that maybe they can bend their own chi and the chi of others? On the other hand, chi could also be something that everyone has. That would mean that everyone can redirect lightning, wouldn't it though? Again, idk, just a thought.
Heat... sight? - basically, couldn't they feel/ see the heat from living beings? Similar to the symmetric sense?
Air
Honestly, I don't have that much on airbending so my bad ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Airbending (basics)
Sucking air out - like out of lungs or stuff
Temperature regulation
Flight
Earthbending - Ok, listen. Rocks have air bubbles in them, right? So could they bend the air in them and move rocks? They could also blow them up through that, right? Again, just spit balling.
Firebending - again, fire needs air, so could they manipulate fire through air?
Waterbending - same thing here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Spirit stuff idk - airbenders were the most spiritual so maybe they could spirit bend or something idk.
Again, I would love to hear what other think. A lot of those things are also just ramblings and ideas and I'm no genius so keep that in mind.
#atla#waterbending#earthbending#firebending#airbending#avatar the last airbender#tlok#I guess in a way???#bending in the avatar world is really fascinating#disscussion#ramblings#I think that counts as rambling?

Arya Stark as a waterbender: Asoiaf characters as atla benders 1/4
Since the new ATLA adaptation arrived, I've been thinking about doing something like this, and I think that Arya would be such an incredible waterbender. The themes of adaptability and change fit very nicely with her character
She would basically learn every possible type of waterbending. She would learn icebending in the north, more traditional waterbending in the riverlands (perhaps plantbending too), and in Braavos, she would learn fogbending, bloodbending, and healing
#arya stark#asoiaf#valyrianscrolls#my art#fanart#house stark#I don't really like the face#but I did like coloring the water and sigil on the background#the icy wolf of the Stark tribe#in my atla au both the north and riverlands are waterbenders#though the north specializes in ice#except for the Boltons obviously

In ATLA Book 4: Air. I imagine there are 30 episodes. It's part of the war-arc instead of post-war and the finale is divided by 4.
Right before the finale, Aang and Azula partake in a duo mission against Zirin and her fire warriors. Details and executions are hazy at the moment but it's the time Aang truly becomes a fully realized master avatar.
He's shown mastering every aspect of the elements along with all of their special techniques and alternate styles and overcoming their respective weaknesses and limitations.
Aang learns flight, spiritual projection, healing, plantbending, bloodbending, spiritbending, lavabending, metalbending, sandbending, combustionbending, lightningbending, and to change the colors of his firebending.
He clears and masters all of his chakras to the point where each one is indomitable and unblockable.
In the end, Aang demonstrates that he's capable of bending all five bending arts at once, with or without the avatar state. His personality is altered due to this level of impressive mastery and versatility.

The Timekeeper group but instead of arcane skills, they have bending arts
Welcome to A.D. once again going insane in the head with character analysis and reverse 1999. I decided to analyze the characters in the timekeeper group and associate them with bending arts from ATLA that suit them best.
Non Benders: Vertin, Sotheby
Benders: Sonetto and Druvis (Water), Regulus and Lilya (Fire), APPLe (Earth), Vertin* (Air)
1. Airbending is a defense-reliant but versatile bending art, and it's associated with freedom and seeking enlightenment in life through that and peace. I think it's fitting for Vertin to have been born with this art, or it awakened in her after the spiritual convergence in TLOK. (In TLOK, the harmonic convergence in 171 AG awakened airbending in several non benders around the world. Though this is only a possibility.)
Although, at the same time, I think it would be more fitting for Vertin herself to be a non bender. She's more known for her physical strength after all. It highlights the fact that Vertin is significantly weaker in mythic power as opposed to a lot of main characters. Rather, she adapts and adjusts using her current strengths: physical ability and high perception. So I think for that matter, she would be knowledgeable in bending but also utilize chi blocking in her fighting style.
2. Waterbending is about change taking focus on the constant flow of the water and energy to utilize their art. Its fighting style is fluid and graceful, with its benders acting similarly and making it able to maintain this constant flow within their techniques and themselves. It's quite fitting for (especially) Sonetto and Druvis. In Druvis' case, she's able to manipulate the plants around her thanks to plantbending, an extension of waterbending that allows one to manipulate plants because all plants have water—from vines to roots, to even trees on the full moon.
Meanwhile, Sonetto's steadfastness and gracefulness compliment really well as we see when we look at her usage of her arcane skill. She would be quite focused and skilled at mastering this bending art; and as we see in its weaknesses, water bending relies on the user's internal life energy, thus its power and control being reflective on the emotional state of its user.
A known flaw in Sonetto is her passion and tendency to become emotional when faced with certain conflicts, and on occasion she overuses her power with a lack of control. It fits the description of weaknesses found in waterbending. But otherwise, her strength in being able to learn fast and her overall style of casting spells reflects greatly on the general style waterbending follows.
3. Firebending is an aggressive bending art that has quite a straightforward meaning: power. It originally developed and fostered on one's unwavered determination to reach their goals and desires, but was twisted into being fueled by hate and rage because of the 100 year war in the series. It still maintains the same principles, but its power intensifies from hate, rage, and anger. Its fighting style is easily used for offensive with very aggressive strategies, but these offenses can be turned into defenses too.
For Regulus, I can see her originally utilizing her anger because of the intensity of her emotions (and her tendency to be easily annoyed /joke), but as she learns more about herself and continuing to develop her art, she slowly shifts towards balancing it with her dedication towards the role she leads in life, and her unwavering resolve to give up on what she wants to do.
Lilya on the other hand can initially come off as her power coming from her temper and aggression as well, but it's not exactly the case. Because she’s skilled at what she does as a pilot, this will reflect her mastery and skills in her bending art for fire. She’s determined to be one of the greatest, and consistently victorious, and that drives her power in her skills. And in spite of her coming off as careless because of the behaviors she exhibits, she's excellently agile and precise, all the while taking the offensive in her attacks.
4. Earthbending is a bending art that relies on acting decisively with one having a wide range to their environment and many opportunities at hand. It has a maintained balance of offense and defense capabilities, and mastering it requires utilizing the neutralization of jing, or in other words, knowing how to rightfully time an action and the decisions that follow. Even then, the lack of precision is a great benefit, as Earth is reliant on brute strength rather than agile and precise movements.
With APPLe, I think he finds a good balance between strength and knowledge, and utilizing that when it comes to using his power. He knows that he does not need great precision, but being able to time things just right as well as being knowledgeable on the environment around him is enough to make good use of his bending art. His personality reflects the way he fights, and I see it being more defensive + counter attacking, while also being very clearly capable and not afraid of going on the offensive.
5. Lastly, as we know, it's possible to create potions in the world of ATLA. Thus, it's possible for Sotheby to maintain her role as a potions maker. It's hard to think of the possible bending art that Sotheby can have, so I rather settled on her being a non bender since her main highlight is her knowledge on potions and the environment around her. I like to think that she utilizes this and the growing technology to be able to create opportunities to help her friends, with the guidance of Vertin and APPLe.
I like doing these associations as well as creating ways to integrate their abilities in other universes (i.e. JJK). I might do this more or start a series with these👍👍
#reverse 1999#vertin#sonetto#druvis iii#sotheby#apple reverse 1999#regulus reverse 1999#lilya reverse 1999#atla#these are always fun to do

reading the sun and the star rn here's my current thoughts;
I'm so tired of reading these boys fight atp I want em dead if I have to read Will being offended by something Nico says or Nico going "YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IVE BEEN THRU...." at Will one more time I'm gonna lose it I'm gonna tear my hair out.
WHY did they establish that Will can grow and control plants at will (plantbender?) if he'll NEVER USE THAT POWER... bc he can't grow plants here bc plants are life and Tartarus has no life!!! no life allowed!!!
I like that grandma that gave them the boat and I love the idea for her dress being that it's made of spirits of the lonely and that her husband is the river and that's why she stays by it and never leaves. makes sense that she'd choose the lonely - by putting them together in a dress that she wears they might not be as lonely anymore and she definitely won't be be bc even though the spirits don't acknowledge her at all they're technically there I'm gonna draw her I have to
this is like reading Nick and Charlie where it feels like I'm in my room listening to my parents argue and it's so uncomfortable 😭
someone tell Nico to take a chill pill like bro Will basically never leaves the infirmary he don't go on quests ofc he's gonna be like "hey wtf is that"
I am very uncomfortable with the energy we've created in the studio today (whenever a characters clothes get torn / removed in a fight I go 🤨 purely bc I'm so used to that being for fan service)
FUCK DO YOU MEAN "FIRST REAL FIGHT" YOU'VE BEEN FIGHTING ALL BOOK

The Element of Change
So recently, I wrote a meta regarding the parallels between Aang and Kuruk, and while writing that meta (more specifically, I was writing the part about their respective heritages), I had a sudden realization: Water Tribe Avatars are meant to be the most powerful in the Avatar Cycle. Let me explain.
To understand the elements, we first have to understand their core values, and what they represent (I'm starting to sound like Uncle Iroh lol). For the element of water, there are two particular descriptions in animated media that I remember very well. The first is obviously from Avatar: The Last Airbender, specifically in the episode Bitter Work (Book 2: Episode 9); when Iroh is teaching Zuko lightning redirection, he first gives a brief lesson on the four elements:
"Fire is the element of power. The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will, and the energy and drive to achieve what they want."
"Earth is the element of substance. The people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse and strong. They are persistent and enduring."
"Air is the element of freedom. The Air Nomads detached themselves from worldly concerns and found peace and freedom. Also, they apparently had pretty good senses of humor!"
"Water is the element of change. The people of the Water Tribe are capable of adapting to many things. They have a deep sense of community and love that holds them together through anything."
For now, we will focus on Iroh's lesson on waterbending. He says that water is the element of change. This is true, since water has three distinct states: Solid (ice), liquid (water), and gas (water vapor or steam). Waterbenders in the North and South Poles grow up adapting to their polar climate by bending the ice and snow, in addition to liquid water (we haven't seen anyone bend steam yet as of now, but waterbenders like Katara have been able to summon water from the atmosphere). Likewise, the Foggy Swamp Tribe adapts to their marshy habitat by learning plantbending; that is, to bend the water inside the plants. Hama invented bloodbending by adapting to the conditions of her dry prison cell, which lacked any liquid water for her to manipulate, and Katara was able to bend her own sweat to escape her and Toph's prison cell at the end of The Runaway (Book 3: Episode 7). If that's not resourceful, I have no clue what is.
Also, can someone please tell me how in the four nations did waterbenders learn to bend from the freaking Moon? I know that Tui and La's mortal bodies are koi fish, but that's still insanely OP to me. If that koizilla is the result of a 12-year-old Air Nomad Avatar merging with the Ocean Spirit, what would happen if a fully realized/adult Water Tribe Avatar merged with La?
The second description of water comes from one of my favorite shows that I used to watch: Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. In the episode Stiix and Stones (Season 5: Episode 47), Nya begins her own training to become the Water Ninja, and Master Wu teaches her the properties of water in detail:
"To become water, you must find its qualities within yourself. While earth is strong and air is fluid, water can be both, strong and fluid. Over time, it's strong enough to carve this rock. Or if I use my cup to stop its flow, it can adapt. It's flexible, shapeless. You put water in a cup, it becomes the cup. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Be water, Nya."
(The last three lines make a Bruce Lee reference, hehe.)
The above excerpt describes the qualities of water as a combination of the qualities of both earth and air by comparing water to both elements. Like earth, water can be strong and solid (ice), and like air, water can be gaseous, fluid and unpredictable (steam). However, most of the time, water exists in an intermediate liquid state: strong, yet fluid and adaptable; having a definite volume, but always changing shape.
"But Mone," you might begin to question. "What exactly does water have to do with the Avatar Cycle?" The answer is, I'm getting to it now.
To recap, the Avatar Cycle is the concept of the Avatar reincarnating in a cyclical order (fire, air, water, earth), and learning to master the elements in a similar order. Every Avatar is a reincarnation of the first Avatar, Wan. The identity of the Avatar is always changing (like the shape of water), but their duties stay the same (like its volume). As one might say, "Names change, but the streets stay the same." Or perhaps a human equivalent, "New person, same old mistakes." The same goes for the Avatar. For example, Avatar Yangchen reincarnates to Avatar Kuruk, meaning Kuruk is technically Yangchen, but he also has his own identity as the Avatar. Conversely, both Yangchen and Kuruk are technically Wan, too (and have the same duties as he did), but all three have their own distinct identities.
This could also be explained in terms of Raava, the spirit of light and order; she is the spirit that reincarnates with each Avatar. The Avatars of past and present may be from different cultures, have different personalities, and face different conflicts, but one constant is the bond with Raava. Raava's "container" may change with each cycle, but the Avatar's essence remains.
In addition, when the Avatar masters the four elements, he/she is also meant to understand and adopt the principles and philosophies of each of the four nations. As water is the element of change, and the people of the Water Tribes are naturally resourceful and adaptable, this means Water Tribe Avatars, like Kuruk and Korra, can easily adapt to different bending styles, and could thus naturally have a better understanding of the four nations.
This fluidity and adaptability of water are prominent clues to just how powerful a Water Tribe Avatar could potentially be. If you thought a regular waterbender was capable enough, wait until you see a fully realized Avatar hailing from either of the three Water Tribes. Kuruk's legacy as a waterbender, and thus his ability to adapt to any situation is exactly the reason why he was believed to a "go with the flow" type of person, the reason why he was a menace in hunting and on the battlefield, the reason why he excelled at almost anything he tried his hand at, the reason why he, more than any other Avatar in history, was able to adapt to, innovate, and combine the philosophies of the four nations together, into a single identity. Korra's legacy as a waterbender is the reason why she could control three of the four elements as a small child, the reason why she could endure mercury poisoning, which could have lead to instant death to anyone else, the reason why she was able to control the Avatar State immediately. Both Kuruk and Korra could and have demonstrated complete talent and mastery over the four elements, as well as the Avatar State.
This last detail can actually be explained with real-life physics. You ever realize just how quickly water can transform and vary from a gentle and peaceful stream to a violent tsunami? Me too, my dear mutuals.
(If only they had the chance to prove it. I guess they have to compensate their prowess and potential with terrible luck and reputations, both in-universe and in the fandom.)
Tl; dr: Waterbending is OP as hell. In fact, calling it OP would actually be the understatement of the century. Water Tribe Avatars are not weapons, they're the entire nuclear arsenal!

Let's Talk About ATLA Element Bending!
I guess my past self just hated myself.
Cause now I'm doing this!
For reference, this is literally just a list of all the types of bending.
I thought that would make a fun post.
Idk.
(Also, I'm gonna go over the basic styles and ways of movement cause why tf not?)
Waterbending
Bloodbending
Cloudbending
Icebending
Mudbending
Plantbending
Snowbending
Spiritbending
Steambending
Waterbending revolves around fluidity and change of pace, being the exact opposite of firebending. However, it is not completely similar to airbending in that it has fixed movements and does not allow as much freedom.
Waterbenders are able to take an opponent's strength and use it against them, while also being able to give support to those around them both offensively, defensively, and in health support. (I didn't know what else to call it.)
Earthbending
Crystalbending
Lavabending
Metalbending
Mudbending
Sandbending
Earthbending requires firm stances and quick, rough movements, opposite to airbending. It is different from firebending as firebending requires smoother, more fluid motions.
Earthbenders are very offensive fighters, and cannot easily use an opponent's strength against them. They can provide amazing offensive support, and can be very helpful in defense.
Firebending
Chibending (yes, this is different to spiritbending)
Combustionbending
Heatbending
Lightningbending
Firebending has very firm stances, and requires a good root, unlike water and airbending. However, firebending can be quite fluid at times, and does not require as much rigidness as earthbending.
Firebending is pretty much solely offensive, with little to no defensive ability. Yes, they can provide defensive support, but it will not be as useful as, say, earthbending or airbending.
Airbending
Cloudbending
Soundbending
Airbending is the most fluid and free form of bending. Yes, there can be firm stances, but most of airbending is quick movements and does not require a root, like firebending or earthbending.
Airbenders are usually defensive, but can be exceptionally good at offense if required. Airbending, while not having the largest amount of sub-types, is one of the most versatile bending forms.
(Yeah, not much really. I did what I could.
If you want a better breakdown of the sub-types I listed, go here.)
(Also, I know energybending is a thing, but I didn't want to go over that, so.... meh)

Bonus tidbits
Sora is originally from the Air Nomads
Roboco wears a layer of thin metal plating around her body under her clothes at nearly all times
Micomet commonly mix their bending to create a steam cover for their attacks
Fubuki, Mio, Calli, Ollie, and Shiori all have strong connections with the spirit realm
Haato's flames are blue and Haachama's are red
Choco specializes in healing and has developed a firebending healing technique all on her own
Kanata is an expert at manipulating air pressure
Laplus lost her memory before meeting the rest of HoloX, who had to help her re-learn how to bend - Because of this, she has a very unique bending style combining airbending and waterbending elements
Moona has a connection to the moon similar to Yue in the show
Kaela specializes in controlling the temperatures of her flames to the very degree
Calli serves as a very present reminder the others that air is not just an element of life, but one of death as well
Gura never learnt how to swim. She developed her bending at such a young age that she never needed to learn, instead just manipulating water to essentially carry her around
Mumei doesn't remember where she came from
Shiori knows where she's from but refuses to say
Nerissa and Raora both use airbending in a similar way, releasing powerful blasts of air from their mouths (Nerissa's singing and Raora's roars)
Kiara's natural response to bad injuries is to burst into a giant, raging storm of flames. So far, Calli is the only one capable of essentially coaxing the flames out of the way to get to Kiara and get her to stop
Kanata, Lui, Kanade, Iofi, Zeta, Calli, Irys, Nerissa, Cecilia, and Raora all come from a group of airbenders who were banished from the Air Nomads for going against their ways, only to return once they've dropped their violent ways

Snape would obviously be a Waterbender in a world where Waterbending was considered the most likely sign you're part of an evil group (and not Firebending):
He's Slytherin, and Slytherin is loosely associated with water but also the moon which is the source of power to waterbend (since the Moon creates tides)
Slytherin is associated with the Lake and the Giant Squid -> Waterbending's Octopus ability
Potions Master ~ water, solutions and plantbending (though that would have to have a link with earthbending, probably)
Waterbending is the element of change and adaptation (Snape as the spy and Master Occlumens, but not just that)
Water can be drawn from the large majority of living things so waterbending can be used to dry up forests, animals and humans, even killing them
Snape would master Bloodbending, a forbidden technique that people consider evil and which can "take away" one's bending by breaking chi paths permanently -> Dark Magic
Bloodbending -> Sectumsempra
Waterbending offers the ability to heal: Healing -> Vulnera Sanentur
"Instead of simply deflecting an attack, waterbending's defensive maneuvers focus on control, achieved through turning an opponent's own strength against them, rather than directly harming the opponent" -> Occlumency and self-control
Snape may specialize in creating ice because he's a very cold character, or fog/mist because he's the elusive spy, and even snow for his more beautiful side
Water at high pressure can cut through rocks and metal
"Waterbending is the antithetical bending art to firebending, though it is similar in its need for inner discipline, breath control, and a strong connection to external forces. Firebenders use quick strong punches and kicks to shoot fire, while waterbenders use slow movements and elegant turns and spins to return the momentum of the opponents' attacks with blasts of water. Firebenders attack first, while waterbenders wait and turn their target's attacks against them." -> Syltherin vs Gryffindor, Snape's introduction for potions, self-discipline and self-control, defensive personnality
"If an inexperienced waterbender were to lose their temper, their waterbending force is intensified, but in turn, control is lost" -> see Snape's angry fits and need for self-control
Teaching Harry Occlumency would be like teaching a firebender the philosophy of waterbending; though ironically enough waterbending and firebending can have a lot in common
Spiritbending, anyone?
