Ashton Firebrand was, largely, a nobody. A loser no one noticed. And one prone to bad luck, it would seem. They experienced many a mishap throughout their life. Mishaps they died from. Or would have, if not for a mysterious healing factor they'd been born with. So long as any remains were left behind, they'd be back, easily. Though the memories of the incidents were etched in their brain, and in their skin from trace amounts of surrounding materials. They grew paler and more zombie-like over time.

Then there was the incident that sent them off the deep end.

They were in a busy area when Batman was handling another criminal threat. A fire was accidentally sparked and unlike everyone else, they couldn't escape the flames. And Batman never noticed they were even there.

When they rose from the ashes, they swore vengeance on Batman and became hellbent on exposing him as a fraudulent hero.

Ashton Firebrand had become the Pale Phoenix.

Selfshiptember Day 5 - First Meetings

The man was…tall, really tall. He oozed an aura of theatrics. The cape around his shoulders flowed in a dramatic arch, adding to his performance and imposing silhouette. He was smiling at Ezra, almost saccharine, showing off his rather alarmingly pointed canines. 

The man's red eyes shone in the shadows and his smile. His smile held promises of only the most devilious of delights.  "Tell me, my friend," the man purred, extending a bejeweled hand down to help Ezra to his feet. Ezra felt his throat run dry, catching a glimpse of the man's clawed fingers. 

"Was it you who called upon us?"
