Read it on https://archiveofourown.org/works/58968223 by Maered, nhyhu “Why, Mando,” Prince Amidala says, “- I didn’t realise you were a romantic.” “I’m not.” Mando snips, and Luke is just so surprised at this revelation. “-but I think a marriage, the creation of your clan, should be afforded a little respect, arranged or not.” “Well, your Mand’alor has not afforded me the respect of even meeting me,” Luke shrugs, “- fair’s fair, wouldn’t you say?” – After the fall of the empire which subjugated them both, the kingdoms of Coruscant and Mandalore are embroiled in a territorial dispute. Locked in a state of cold war, the uneasy truce is tested when Prince Luke Amidala is captured by Mandalore. Neither side wants to be dragged into another conflict while still healing and facing internal treachery, so a treaty is drawn. A treaty that hinges on an arranged marriage between Luke and the Mand’alor, whom the pacifist Prince has never met, despite months of captivity. Accompanied by a group of Mandalorian knights once the treaty is signed, Luke sets sail back to Coruscant to prepare for the wedding; with the looming threat of the notorious pirate, the Red Hand, threatening their voyage. summaries for each below the cut

TONY STARK

Tony Stark was born and raised on Coruscant, son of a powerful weapons mogul. He had only just taken the role of CEO of Stark Industries when the Republic fell and he began building weapons for the Empire. He didn’t question it, he just did what he was best at - building and creating, and reaping the benefits. Years later he is kidnapped by a gang of pirates seeking his tech. This experience, and the horror he went through during it, showed him the truth of the Empire. He closes down weapons manufacturing, but that wasn’t enough, he wanted to do more. He begins to help the rebellion in secret, using his power and wealth to get them what they need. (this verse can also be adjusted to fit prequel or sequel eras as needed.)

FRIDAY

She is an android personally built by Tony Stark. No one knows that she is a droid. She helps him aid the rebellion in ways that he can’t be seen doing.

LUCY QUINZEL

Lucy was born and raised on Nar Shaddaa, nicknamed the “Smuggler’s Moon,”. Lucy never met her parents, who were leaders of one of the planets many ruthless gangs. Instead, she was raised by her aunt, who tried to give her a good life and protected her as much as she could but was killed when Lucy was young. Lucy turned to stealing to survive. Years later she joined a group of pirates, she travels off world with them hoping to one day steal enough to get her own ship.

CONNOR

The most advanced android built by cyberlife, Connor was made to serve and aid The Empire/First Order. He followed orders for a while, slowly developing emotions and empathy. He eventually deviated and escaped to aid the rebels.

WILL GRAHAM

(still a WIP) A Jedi, Will is constantly on the edge between the Light and Dark. He experiences extreme Force Empathy / Telepathy / and visions. This has made him somewhat of an outlier even amongst other Jedi.

JAMES HOLDEN

Holden was a First Lieutenant in the Imperial/First Order Navy, after a disagreement with a superior officer he was given a general court-martial, convicted and discharged from service. He didn’t return home, instead he spent a few years traveling around the outer rim, picking up random jobs. Eventually he joins the rebellion (details of how will be figured out later). He is now captain of the Rocinante, part of the rebel fleet. (how he and the crew come into possession of the Roci is also something that will be figured out later)

NELL CRAIN

(tw for suicide) Force sensitivity ran in Olivia's family - her mother, her, and then all her kids to some degree. Olivia was not trained and she didn’t want her kids to be taken in by the Jedi. But untrained force sensitives can be dangerous, and of course things go wrong when the children are young. The family moves into a place, not knowing that it rests on a nexus of the dark side. Immediately this starts messing with their heads. Like in the series, Olivia goes a bit crazy and tries to kill the twins, Hugh gets the kids out, and Olivia kills herself before he comes back to get her.

Being exposed to the dark side so young left it’s mark on Nell and she suffers from the consequences of this throughout her life - nightmares, seeing things, and outbursts of the force. As an adult Nell tries to live a normal life but ends up mostly isolated. Nell and her twin brother Luke are the most ‘unstable’ of the kids, even as adults; they have the most problems controlling their force ability which causes a lot of problems for them.

ELIZABETH SWANN

Governor’s daughter, twin, handmaiden, pirate. For eight years Elizabeth, along with her twin sister Tsabin (renamed Sabe), served as handmaidens for Queen Padme Amidala. After her service was done Elizabeth decided to travel, giving in to the wanderlust she always felt. She traveled the mid and outer rim, until she was captured by pirates. Originally, they planned to hold her for ransom, however she struck an accord with her would-be captors. She joined their crew, becoming a pirate. Eventually ((through some plot stuff that I still need to figure out whoops)) she becomes Captain of her own crew, and then is elected leader of the Brethren Court.

Commodore Skywalker, the youngest person in his Majesty’s Grand Navy to ever achieve the rank, woke up in a cell. His shoulder was throbbing, and his soul appeared to be trying to leave his body by virtue of a skull-drilling headache. He groaned, and risked opening his eyes.

He found himself lying on a dingy scattering of straw — frequently used and ancient, by the smell of it. Cautious light filtered through the clouds of dust from above and bounced off the single item in the cell — a bucket that perhaps once had been green.

His stomach picked up the motions of a sailing ship just as his nose zoomed in on the salt spray over the other, less savory aromas. The wake was splashing on the hull just outside, and for the first time he could remember, the sound filled him with dread instead of comfort.

He’d been rescued from the wreck, then. Just not by the right party.

The Commodore groaned again and rolled to his other side, to relieve some weight from his shoulder. Something else entered his field of vision — a pair of boots, one the other side of the iron bars. The boots hugged a set of rather smallish feet, one of them tapping in sync with the pulsating pain just behind his temples. His breath hitched, and he lifted himself from the floor, careful not to make any sudden movements. His gaze slowly trailed up his foe.

A reedy timbre of a voice broke the silence.

“Oh my. How the mighty have fallen — was that the saying?”

The accent belonged to one of Naboo’s upper crust, just like His Majesty’s. The Commodore squinted his eyes when they reached the face of his jailor, and blinked rapidly. Was it possible?…

“You,” he stumbled forward and grabbed the iron bars because he needed the support. He hoped the gesture came across as intimidating. “You must be ‘Queen’ Amidala!”

The young pirate in front of him chuckled, and lifted her hand to her tricorne hat for a mock salute.

“And you, Commodore Skywalker, are at my service.”

He started at that, and ran his eyes over her. He noted several rows of chevrons, taken as trophies from various Imperial Navy Officer ranks, pinned to her hat in a pattern unabashedly dictated by nothing else than aesthetics. She had even managed a few golden chevrons, from a flag officer — in fact, it was the exact number the Crown bestowed on a Commodore, just one marker short of an admiral.

His grip on the bars tightened and he ground his teeth. The infamous Pirate Queen, who had cowed the Western Fleet into sailing only two remaining safe routes, the terror who had reduced several elite squadrons of his Majesty’s Black Armada to a scuttle of shivering incompetents piled on rickety rafts, was a waif of a woman — way too small for the stolen Navy jacket she was wearing — and in fact, not that much older than him. Gorgeous, too, in a way that derailed any further thought. His brain slipped the latter as a side note, and he threatened to drive a hot spike through it.

The ugly fact was that he, the Emperor’s chosen protegé, the rising star of the Imperial Navy, had fallen right into her trap, just like the line of pompous fools before him. And his prospects… well… he just hoped for a quick execution. The fact that she had bothered to pluck him from the sea and had not tossed him back after uncovering his identity was deeply unnerving. His gaze returned to her eyes.

“I may be your prisoner, but I am decidedly not at your service, pirate scum!” he grated the words, trying to project bravado that he did not feel.

The queen smirked and raised an eyebrow. From the shadows at her side, another pirate stepped forward — a sturdy woman with one hand gripping a whip, and another tucked in her belt next to a sword hilt.

“Should I teach him some manners, Your Grace?”

“That won’t be necessary, Cordé — I am sure we will find him perfectly amiable at the end of this conversation.”

The Commodore did not like being spoken to in third person, not at all.

“Why am I still alive?” he demanded. “What happened to the rest of my men? Where is my fleet?”

The Queen sized him up and down with unnerving confidence. Her re-branded jacket was decorated like her hat, with bits and bobs pilfered from Navy rank insignia — a sizable collection of ribbons arranged by color, several medals, and, to complete the ensemble — not one, but three stars of valor — the highest distinction of an award in the fleet. To see them on a pirate… He drew his eyebrows together, pursing his lips.

Her melodic voice broke his consternation.

“The rest of your  — might I add, ‘very fine’ fleet, now forms my vanguard, Commodore. Thank you.” The hair on the back of his neck rose, while the pirate put a hand to her chin, and tsk-ed, as if he had somehow come up short upon closer inspection. “And you are alive because I am not wasteful.”

Her hand shifted from her chin into a theatrical arc.

“Allow me to present your options: I can either ransom you to your Emperor, who I expect to find most generous in securing the return of his strategic genius — that is, if you still deserve the title.” Here, she issued a mock pout and skewered him with her uncommonly expressive pair of dark eyes. “I am sure His Imperial Majesty will be nothing but magnanimous after you explain just how you lost his favorite secret fleet on her maiden voyage.” Something in the Commodore’s chest tightened. “Or,” she gripped one of his cell bars, not too far from his own hand, and he could sense her guard tensing a few steps away, “you can cooperate with me on a small trifle of an ask, and I will let you, what’s left of your men, and two of your ships go.”

The Commodore swallowed, hard.

“A trifle.” he echoed with a pause, “Of an ask?”

“That is correct. Think about it.” She gave him a pearly smile, released the bar and waved her fingers at him energetically, then turned to leave.

“Wait!” his heart was thumping so loud in his throat that each new word was a struggle, “What ask?”

“All in due time, Commodore.”

She had reached the stairs leading to the upper deck, and he noticed that her coat, while haphazardly retro-sized to fit the width of her shoulders, still reached well below her knees. And, it bore an unmistakable singe mark in the shape of a dog’s head, on the lower left side just in the back. His eyes widened. The eight chevrons, the three golden stars for valor — “Hey!” he raised his voice and rattled the iron bars: “That is my coat!”

She paused, and turned back with a smile that sent the dust particles in the air dancing.

“Was. It was your coat, Mr. Skywalker.”

He watched her small feet ascend the stairs of a Pirate ship now helming his fleet, under his coat, his chevrons and his stars, and sank down in the corner of his cell, pondering just how one man’s fortune can change so profoundly in a day. The Commodore cursed in every language he knew, as his headache pressed on in its best effort to end him. He wished it luck.

Okay but an AU where the Trade Federation managed to take Naboo before the Senate intervened, and Padme’s handmaidens were forced to get her off the planet rather than let her become a political hostage. They go into hiding, and Naboo’s missing queen becomes a legend and a symbol of hope for victory over the Guilds all over the galaxy. 

Fast forward 10 years and the Clone Wars start anyway, but the Separatist hold on the Outer Rim isn’t anything close to what it could be, because a massive pirate fleet keeps harrying them and pushing them out and aiding the clones and Jedi at the last possible moment, headed by a pirate queen no one has ever gotten a good look at. 

Basically. Pirate Queen Padme could absolutely totally be a thing in canon.

The trade confederacy sent pirates to destroy the ship of Queen Amidala and make sure that she doesn‘t make it to the Vote in the senate. They didn‘t count on a mermaid of all creatures to save her.

Lil'Loyd would dress as his dad and everyone would think it was adorable.

Luh-Loyd has a dragon costume that he has worn for the last 3 years.

Cyan Nya would be the same as Luh-Loyd, only her costume is Lady Iron Dragon. Koko is always flattered.

Red Nya would try and say she's too old for this, only with the actually older than her Ninja doing it she'd have no leg to stand on, but not realize that until the last minute and have to wear the couple costume that goes with Jay's (when they're dating at least, if they're not dating at the time, she's stuck with a bedsheet ghost because Kai keeps messing with her so she can't get anything better).

Spike Kai would put on shades and be his own evil double. He gets a little too into the act.

Buddy Kai dresses like a skeleton just so he can play fight with his sister.

Freckles Jay dresses as a mad scientist and can get scarily into the act to go with the part. Lots of maniacal laughter and scientifically accurate plans.

Nick Jay would want to wear super romantic couple costumes with Nya. Romeo to her Juliet, Clyde to her Bonnie, Anthony to her Cleopatra (pointedly ignoring how all those are tragedies), those sorts of things. (If they're not dating, he just dresses like a pirate because he thinks eyepatches are cool.

Cliff Cole does the barest minimum of costumes because he'd spent his childhood stuffed into silly uncomfortable costumes for dance and he is not willingly doing that again. So a 'This IS my Halloween Costume' T-shirt would be about his speed.

DJ Cole, meanwhile, has very intricate costumes because his parents work together to make them, and he can't say no to their hard work. It helps that they know his tastes, and tend to dress him as famous rock stars. Last time he was dressed as a member of Kiss.

Zen Zane was dragged into the whole Halloween thing but is having fun dressed as the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. It helps that Alexa Pixal agreed to be Dorothy.

Pep Zane and Penny Pixal had been planning their costume for months, and have been scaring kids with their costumes of Frankenstein's Monster and his Bride.

M!Morro's a jerk who likes to dress in the scariest thing he can make and then jump out of the bushes at unsuspecting trick-r-treaters.

Of course Lord G can't resist dressing up too, (which means the other adults are dragged in too). He has the whole family's costumes planned out with him being Darth Vader, Koko being Queen Amidala and all but stuffing Master Wu into an Obi-Wan costume. He is absolutely bummed that Luh-Loyd doesn't want to give up his dragon costume to be Luke and/or Leia.

With Lord G dressing up, Sensei G, Sensei Wu, and Misako feel they have to too, or Lil'Loyd would be disappointed. When he realizes Lil'Loyd dressing as him, Sensei G decides to dress as the Green Ninja to surprise him, and the irony is lost on no one. Sensei Wu just puts on a pointy hat and calls himself a wizard, while Misako scares them both with a scarily accurate costume of one of their many old enemies.

Last time I went about five months between doing a set of STAR WARS fic recs, this time it’s only been three months! Hurrah! It helps that, as always, this fandom puts out an incredible amount of excellent fic, so I feel like I’m never hurting for fics I want to yell about and shove at people, which is something I continue to appreciate as it often feels like so much of the world is such a huge tire fire. It helps to be able to find fics to retreat into, to have fun with, to express joy and creativity with, and so many of the authors in this fandom are just so good at this! you mentioned Royal Navy Captain Amidala, I raise you love of her life (Obi-Wan's) rival pirate captain Sabe. Padme and Anakin sometimes greet each other at sea with small waves and "your idiot is on board too? same." (it had to be done, Keira was the queen, em king of POTC)

i do love the introduction of Sabé here.....while I don't think they'd be many moments for Anakin and Padmé to get along (as Anakin is too devoted to the wellbeing of him and his family, and Padmé is the absolute opposite of that), I think it's absolutely brilliant for Sabé to be a rival pirate captain who Obi-Wan works with, especially in moments where Obi-Wan needs to get away back to Anakin, because for some reason no matter the course, Padmé diverts her ships the very second she hears/sees Sabé's ship on the water. No matter how close to Obi-Wan she is.

anakin is surprised one night when Obi-Wan slips into bed, back from his voyage a few days early. "True love," Obi-Wan murmurs against his neck, and Anakin thinks he means them, but he really means Sabé and Padmé.
