This is by no means an exhaustive list but here are a number of suggestions to help you on your art journey! Feel free to contact me for clarification or examples and I will happily provide them.
Check under the cut for many creative options and keep on creating, everyone!
Collage is pretty accessible, if you don't have old magazines/newspapers of your own libraries often have some they were just going to throw out anyway
Drawing/painting can be intimidating but also lots of fun, again your local library might have "GOOS" paper (good on one side) that would just go to waste otherwise. You can also paint on random trash, rocks, jackets/jeans, or scrap fabric to make patches to sew on your stuff
Textiles like sewing & embroidery are a very cool outlet that gives you skills in repair as well as fun finished products like stuffies or custom pockets, you can use scrap fabric or buy a cheap pack of felt to start out, can't go wrong with a classic sock monkey.
Crochet and knitting are good repetitive options that leave you with practical creative products in the end, you can make little guys with Amigurumi once you get the crochet basics down, and you can unravel and redo the same skein multiple times until you are comfortable!
Dig into your recycle bin for cardboard and plastics and you open up a whole world of sculpture, you can make miniature scenes, cardboard accessories/armor/faux animal mounts. Even furniture if you have enough cardboard. When I was younger my friends and I would use applesauce cups and hot glue along with random scraps/trash to make boats which we would race through big puddles
You can go for a nature walk and gather components for sculpture as well, a bit of jewelry wire plus stones and twigs can go far. You can also try whittling or woodcarving with dry wood scraps and a sharp knife, safety gloves recommended.
There are many types of clay you can sculpt with, be it pottery or figurines. Stuff like plasticine never solidifies, so you can keep working on it, other clays air dry or oven bake so you can set it permanently. I love a material called Cloud Clay, the Crayola version crumbles but any other one I've used has been good. It dries super light so it's great for jewelry or little guys to carry around with you. It is sensitive to moisture so I'd recommend clear coating it once it's dry to keep it safe. I accidentally ran a piece through the washer and it survived mostly intact thanks to clear coating it.
Mod podge, pliers, a bottle cap, a safety pin, and a pop tab can be put together to make your own buttons sans-buttonmaker.
You can play with fashion, costume, cosplay, prop making. I personally do Live Action RolePlay in organized groups, you can see if there is one in your area, it has been a fantastic outlet for me creatively and athletically because I'm not big on traditional sports and I love a good camping weekend.
Pick one jacket you have and just have fun expressing yourself, paint on it, sew stuff on it, add studs or jewelry, put buttons on it, stitch your favourite quotes, make it yours. It could also be a vest. In the punk scene they are called battle jackets.
Origami is fun and there are tons of books out there about it, it can be practical too, there's a way to make a paper cup with it to carry snacks in, you can make little gift boxes, it's very fun.
Build a puppet! Storytelling is part of our nature and what better way to do it than with a little guy? You can make finger puppets, hand puppets, sock puppets, marionettes, shadow puppets, your own Muppet, the list goes on!
Pop up books/cards are a fun challenge that mostly use paper and glue. You can combine this with collage as well.
There are many different ways to use or decorate eggshells from Faberge to Pysanky eggs, painted eggs are even in the official clown museum to show registered clown's makeup so no one has the same look.
Journaling or sketchbooks are great outlets, you don't have to just write about your feelings you can just play with calligraphy, short fiction, typography, poetry, character design, and you can decorate the pages with gel pens, stickers, etc.
Make a zine! It's short form, very flexible, you can tell a story, send a message, info dump, or just put words to paper, there's no wrong way to do it.
As we go into spring you can press flowers to preserve them and also use those in all manner of art, even press a flower between two pages and smash it with a hammer to transfer the pigment to paper and work from there.
how do i get creative in a traditional way no electronics used

sorekara setting design
Tumblr media
Here are some notes on the development of SOREKARA's style and presentation. If you couldn't already tell, SK takes a lot of inspiration from 70's/80's anime, Nobody's Boy Remi being the reference point for much of it. I've always respected Dezaki for his monumental work so I've always wanted to pay tribute to it (especially the early stuff). I don't think I was as successful as I'd like to have been, but alas! There is still more to come! So without further ado!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was just talking about Dezaki , but now I shall talk about something completely different. To set the tone, I created the cat and the trolley setting first. The Girl's design should be plenty obvious (lol). But the background here I paid special attention to... I find the paints of Night on the Galactic Railroad to be very unique. They have a line less, airbrushed quality to them that blends in surprisingly well with the characters. I did some research and studied 児玉喬夫 Takao Kodama's work, as they were credited with setting design for this film as well as Genji Monogatari. Actually, if you look at Genji Monogatari's backgrounds, they have the exact same airbrushed quality! I had never done a background like this before (I am certainly not an environmental artist) but I think I did a fairly good job of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...I immediately switched gears and without thinking, went back to Dezaki works. I can't say I was very faithful at all. The night sky is easy to paint, with it's notable color spray and paint blots, but I diverged quite a bit with the watercolor textures. Shichiro Kobayashi is the artist I looked to the most, and this project made me appreciate him more than ever before. Just looking at his paints gets me emotional... The vibrant colors, the dramatic angles, you can just feel his reverence for life overflowing from the work. There really isn't anyone better. I need to study more if I'm to capture even a fraction of his skill. That being said, I did make sure to animate the backgrounds slightly with the sparkles on the water-- The reflection of light on water is my favorite to draw! Also, flowers are a very important motif (for various reasons, ohohoho). Kobayashi seemed to love drawing flowers, the paint around the edges give is a delicate look. Actually, if you look at the textbox...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead of full-color CGs, I opted to use "postcard memories". This was a technique Dezaki used where he would show a detailed, scratchy-lined illustration to highlight important moments instead of fully animating them. It creates a really memorable image that draws out all of your emotions! I tried to emulate them (the more single-toned ones, that is) for the game. It was 1/3 Dezaki worship, 1/3 time-saving technique, and 1/3 excuse to draw lots of scratchy lines. I love scratchy lines. This way, I could make a lot of memorable shots that were visually interesting without overworking myself.
As another note, I looked to Akio Sugino's character art when drawing. The characters don't really look like Sugino characters, but I was emulating his shading technique with (once-again) the scratchy lines. Ah, I was in heaven. Looking at his older work, the linework is hardly ever clean-- but the rough, hand-drawn edge gives everything a tactile quality and the strong anatomy makes everyone so gorgeous. It's like an engraving come to life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, the anime effects! On the left you can see soothat before his values are adjusted (very dark, isn't he?) and on the right you can see he is in-game, values adjusted with a more appropriate "anime" look. This is because anime cells are put onto a CRT screen, so they end up looking very different. I created an auto action in CSP to adjust the color grating and line quality of every asset before popping them into the game for the chromatic aberration to take effect. The lines are slightly crunched a blurrier compared to the original. It gives it a more "physical" look. The colors are fixed up-- you'll see there is no pure black. If you look at a physical anime cell, you'll see they more often than not do not include pure black. There is usually a tint of green or red in there.
The chromatic aberration filter... I don't know how noticeable it is to the average player, but the game actually has a built-in filter that creates a slight "chroma" effect to emulate the look of frames through a crt/light. This means the red + blue + green values of the entire screen are split up and adjusted to layer slightly off from each other, giving it a little visual interest. It was AN EXTREME doozy to put in, with my poor programmer coding it and re-coding it until the end. It seemed simple at first, but there are parts where the game zooms in which totally broke the filter! It made out eyes bleed! But it was repaired in the end, so blessing upon you, Sandy. You saved my life.
The reason why I looked to Ie Naki Ko/Nobody's Boy Remi specifically is because that's where I feel the most "pure" energy from. It is a show that leans incredibly hard on it's techniques to get by but because of that it really embodies what I love about old anime-- It has a selfless reverence for its subject that drives you to watch and surrender your heart. Dezaki's powerful directing, Sugino's gorgeous drawings and Kobayashi's majestic paintings come together to make a work that shines. The setting is truly at the forefront with the characters getting lost in the grandeur. That's the attitude I had with SOREKARA: "There are things much greater than us, so isn't it wonderful that we are able to see them side-by-side?" There are many animation techniques that are cost-effective while still being utterly beautiful, I would love to copy them someday but I wasn't able to go that far yet. At least not in the demo. There's still time, I suppose... Studying limited animation from old anime is actually extremely useful when creating visual novels. Understanding the placement of cells and their layering/movement has given me even more ideas for stories!
Tumblr media
I ended up going on a rant about anime again ^^" But it's so beautiful, you must now understand my heart going into the work. I always think of my characters and their journey, of course, but before that I think of the setting. I want the player to experience beautiful and mysterious things alongside their traveling companions. There is still so much more to make. I hope to incorporate more Dezaki-style techniques in this and future works. Please remember the true message of my works.... Not that love finds a way, or that your connections can transform your world...it's that....anime is very, very cool.
Thank you for reading 🙇🏽‍♂️

8. What do you like most about your own work?
10. What’s that one thing that inspired you to make drawing your consistant hobby?
8. What do you like most about your own work?
Hmmm. I like a decent amount of things about my art, but probably what I like most is that I can draw quickly and generally capture or quickly discover what I'm intending to draw. The sooner I can get an idea or the impression of a shape out of my head, the sooner I am freed from the burden of trying to remember something I can't visualize.
I think I've mentioned it before, but I don't have a strong ability to visualize things in my head (aphantasia), so when I have something in mind that I want to draw, it manifests as an impression - usually the abstract feeling of an expression or the flow of a pose - that I have to translate onto the paper. And when I don't get what I'm after the first time, then I can usually quickly figure it out with some sketchy lines and a few adjustments.
I've figured out a way to describe the experience of 'seeing' what's in my head, but it's kinda irrelevant here. Anyway, drawing quickly and ridding myself of intangible idea-demons.
10. What’s that one thing that inspired you to make drawing your consistent hobby?
I don't think there's a single identifiable thing. I have always been drawing; I'm one of those "since I could hold a crayon and push it around on a paper" people. I think it's more that.. there are some things which helped me out, and there are some things which were less fun but which ensured that I didn't actually STOP drawing as a hobby.
Before I list the factors, I want to set the stage. I was Not Good At Drawing Things for a long time. I have always been slow at developing my artistic skills and figuring out how to do things. Among my artistically inclined peers, I was almost always on the lower skilled, less creative end of the spectrum of artists, especially before my early-to-mid-twenties (this is a very subjective spectrum and it's not that great to compare yourself to others in this way, but tolerate my usage of it here please). I don't say this to put myself down, but I want to emphasize that not only was I not one of the ~ooh wow you're so talented~ artists, but I used to accept the quiet fact that I'd probably never be Great at art, that I'd mostly just be someone who had decent skills and could entertain people with my doodles. (And to be clear, I filled this niche for many years and was happy doing it! But I wanted to keep getting better, so I did.)
Things which helped me continue drawing: - support/encouragement from my family and friends, especially my mom who would buy me art supplies and paid for me to attend some after-school art classes during my elementary school years. those classes taught me some foundational techniques that I still think about and use today. - related, that art teacher from those classes. seriously, she was the one art teacher i have had who i actually genuinely always enjoyed interacting with (the other art teachers were a mixed bag, but what can you expect when they had to deal with middle and high schoolers all the damn time) - joy! i enjoyed and still enjoy the physical experience of drawing and expressing myself in a different way. there is a tactile pleasure to drawing on paper that cannot be experienced from drawing on a screen, and i think that helped engage me, and i often return to it when i need to feel more from drawing - spite. yeah, cycling back to those unfun art teachers, i absolutely have been motivated by spite to keep drawing. sometimes i think about going up to my middle school art teacher and giving evidence for the fact that i can paint now and i know how to draw contours and my dragons don't look like weird dog-lizards. and i think about going up to my high school art teacher and shoving so many pieces in her face and saying that i can too compose a drawing and use color well and my anatomy is loads better and also just because you don't understand the appeal of dragons doesn't mean i'll ever stop drawing them also fuck you for making me cry when i was trying my best for those entire two years i had your class im better now and also ive stolen what you taught me about critiques and turned it into something that people actually come to me for help with because unlike you, I can give a critique without making the artist shrivel up inside -dragons. dragons are super fun to draw and they have often been the only thing i had any desire to draw
That got long, whoops. I don't have simple answers for questions like these XD

Unlocking Children's Creativity
Tumblr media
“The home is an ideal place to start encouraging children to think creatively and critically. During conversations and discussions, parents should prompt children to ask questions, reason, and ideate solutions to problems. Developing capabilities to question, reason and debate are critical for stimulating children to think innovatively. All children are naturally curious and adults have to encourage them to transform their curiosity into creativity,”
Start with providing creative spaces. Children need conducive spaces at home and school to practice and display their creativity. Provide boards, chalk boards, and other spaces where children can display their creative work, post ideas, designs and decorations. It will motivate children to engage in creative activity.
Encourage discovery and exploration through unstructured play. The consensus among child psychologists is that encouraging unstructured play is the best way to nurture children’s curiosity and sense of discovery. By providing your children free play time, you provide them opportunity to improvise games and activities using their imagination.
“Allow children time for independent play so they can explore, discover and learn on their own. In particular in early childhood, children learn through unstructured and unsupervised play. Independent play teaches children to become self-reliant, creative, imaginative, and improves their focus and critical thinking capabilities,”
Here are some independent play ideas for pre- school children:
Tactile play. Encourage children to experiment with paint, sand, clay, water. It will stimulate their creativity and imagination.
Easy-to-solve puzzles. Sharpens children’s problem-solving skills.
Color sorting. This is a good way to introduce children to classification.
Sensory bag. Fill a recyclable bag with tactile materials such as hair gel, pumpkin seeds and marbles. As children squish the bag and move its contents, they learn about the materials through their fingers, eyes and ears.
‘Strewing.’ This is a popular concept in “unschooling”. Adults strew a few toys around children to “stumble” upon, discover and improvise play and games.
Storytelling : Oral storytelling is an age-old tradition to spark children’s imagination. Stories told before bedtime, during car and train journeys and weekends have great impact on child’s thinking process. Moreover, once a week schedule a story-building.
The benefits of encouraging creative activities including art, dance, music, drama, science exploration etc. Seven physical and cognitive benefits of engaging children in creative activities:
REFLECT It’s great for children to immerse themselves in projects, but it’s also important for them to step back to reflect on what’s happening. Encourage children to reflect by asking them questions about their projects. You can start with - “How did you come up with the idea for this project.” The question prompts them to reflect on their motivation and inspiration. Imagine the children in your life as creative thinking apprentices; you’re helping them learn to become creative thinkers by demonstrating and discussing how you do it.

Shishu Abhyanga (Baby Massage): Benefits, How to, and more
A baby brings immense joy and happiness for its parents along with a lot of responsibility. As parents, ensuring the well-being of our little ones becomes our top priority. Among the many nurturing practices, Shishu Abhyanga, or baby massage, stands out as a time-honored tradition cherished for centuries across cultures. It's not just about relaxation; it's a powerful way to promote your baby's physical and emotional well-being while fostering a deep connection between parent and child. In this article, we delve into the profound benefits of Shishu Abhyanga, explore the art of performing it, and discuss essential precautions.
Tumblr media
Shishu Abhyanga at GS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital:
In the realm of Ayurveda, the holistic science of health and wellness, the practice of Shishu Abhyanga stands as a cornerstone for promoting the physical, emotional, and psychological development of infants. GS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, one of the Best Private BAMS Colleges in Delhi-NCR, renowned for its dedication to traditional Ayurvedic practices, offers a comprehensive approach to infant massage, nurturing the bond between parent and child while fostering the baby's overall growth. The college also provides Ayurveda Medicine Course in various specializations. BAMS Colleges in UP provide comprehensive training in Shishu Abhyanga to the baby care-takers.
Introduction to Shishu Abhyanga:
What is Shishu Abhyanga?
Shishu Abhyanga is the practice of massaging a baby's body using gentle strokes and soothing oils. This ancient technique has been passed down through generations and is cherished for its numerous benefits.
The tactile experience of gentle strokes and loving touch during Shishu Abhyanga fosters a deep emotional connection between the parent and the baby. It strengthens the bond and reinforces feelings of security and trust, laying a foundation for healthy attachment.
Cultural significance and history
Across cultures, baby massage holds immense cultural significance. In India, for example, it's deeply rooted in Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine. Similarly, in many other parts of the world, from Africa to South America, parents have been massaging their babies for centuries, recognizing its importance in promoting health and well-being.
Benefits of Shishu Abhyanga:
Physical benefits: Shishu Abhyanga offers a multitude of physical benefits for your baby. It helps in improving blood circulation, promoting healthy weight gain, and aiding digestion. Additionally, it can relieve muscular tension and promote overall growth and development.
Emotional benefits: Beyond the physical, baby massage is incredibly soothing for infants. It reduces stress hormones, promotes the release of feel-good hormones like oxytocin, and helps regulate your baby's mood, leading to a happier, more contented little one.
Bonding between parent and baby: Perhaps one of the most significant benefits of Shishu Abhyanga is the bond it fosters between parent and child. Through nurturing touch, parents and babies communicate love, trust, and security, laying the foundation for a strong, healthy relationship.
Aids in Digestion: Gentle massage movements applied to the baby's abdomen in a clockwise direction can aid in relieving gas and promoting digestion. This can be particularly beneficial for babies struggling with colic or constipation.
Boosts Immunity: The gentle pressure and rhythmic motions of Shishu Abhyanga stimulate the lymphatic system, which plays a crucial role in immune function. Regular massages may help enhance the baby's immune response, offering protection against common illnesses.
Improves Sleep Quality: A calm and relaxed state induced by Shishu Abhyanga can contribute to improved sleep patterns in babies. Massaging before bedtime can signal to the baby that it's time to wind down, promoting deeper and more restful sleep.
Choosing the Right Oil:
Importance of selecting the right oil: The choice of oil for baby massage is crucial. Opt for natural, chemical-free oils that are gentle on your baby's delicate skin. Avoid perfumed oils or those containing synthetic additives.
Best oils for baby massage: Some of the best oils for baby massage include coconut oil, almond oil, and sesame oil. These oils are nourishing, easily absorbed, and unlikely to cause irritation or allergic reactions.
Safety considerations: Before applying any oil to your baby's skin, perform a patch test to check for allergic reactions. Additionally, ensure the oil is warm but not too hot, and always massage gently, avoiding any areas of irritation or sensitivity.
Preparing for the Massage:
Setting the mood: A serene environment is essential for a relaxing massage experience.  Create a calming atmosphere for your baby's massage. Switch off the lights or dim it, play soothing music (not loud, instrumental preferred), and remove any distractions. This will help both you and your baby relax and enjoy the experience fully.
Ensuring safety and comfort: Choose a warm, draft-free room for the massage, and lay down a soft towel or blanket for your baby to lie on. Keep all massage supplies within easy reach to avoid any interruptions during the session.
Gathering supplies: Before you begin, gather all the necessary supplies, including oil, a soft towel or blanket, and a clean diaper. Having everything prepared in advance will make the massage more enjoyable for both you and your baby.
Techniques for Shishu Abhyanga:
Gentle strokes: When massaging your baby, use gentle, rhythmic strokes with just enough pressure to be soothing. Start with the legs and work your way up to the chest, arms, and back, paying extra attention to any areas of tension or discomfort.
Specific areas to focus on: Certain areas of your baby's body may benefit from extra attention. For example, massaging the abdomen can help relieve gas and constipation, while gentle strokes on the chest can promote easier breathing.
Duration and frequency: Aim for short massage sessions of around 10 to 15 minutes, once or twice a day. Pay attention to your baby's cues; if they seem restless or fussy, it may be a sign that they've had enough.
Bonding through Touch:
Importance of touch for babies: Touch is your baby's first language, and it plays a vital role in their development. Through nurturing touch, babies learn to feel loved, secure, and valued, laying the foundation for healthy relationships later in life.
Strengthening the parent-child relationship: Shishu Abhyanga provides a unique opportunity for parents to bond with their babies on a deep emotional level. It's a time for undivided attention, love, and affection, strengthening the parent-child bond with each gentle stroke.
Building trust and security: When you massage your baby, you're not just soothing their body; you're also comforting their soul. By responding to your baby's cues and providing them with comfort and security, you're laying the groundwork for a trusting, secure attachment.
Promoting Baby's Sleep:
Calming effects of massage: One of the most well-known benefits of Shishu Abhyanga is its ability to promote better sleep. The gentle, rhythmic strokes help calm your baby and relax the baby which in turn promotes undisrupted and healthy sleep to the baby.
Enhances Relaxation: Just as adults benefit from a soothing massage after a long day, babies too experience relaxation through gentle kneading and stroking. Shishu Abhyanga helps release tension in the baby's muscles, promoting relaxation and reducing fussiness.
Precautions and Safety Measures: While Shishu Abhyanga offers numerous benefits, it's essential to exercise caution to ensure the baby's safety. Avoid applying excessive pressure, especially around delicate areas such as the spine or fontanelle. Keep nails trimmed to prevent scratching, and always monitor the baby's cues for discomfort.
When to Avoid Baby Massage: Certain circumstances warrant refraining from baby massage, such as when the baby has a fever, skin infections, or other underlying health conditions. Consult with a pediatrician before initiating massage if you have any concerns about the baby's health.
Expert Advice and Recommendations: Insights from experienced Ayurvedic practitioners emphasize the importance of nurturing touch and loving communication during Shishu Abhyanga. They recommend maintaining a gentle yet firm pressure, tuning into the baby's cues, and creating a nurturing atmosphere conducive to relaxation and bonding.
Testimonials: At GS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, parents and infants alike have experienced the transformative effects of Shishu Abhyanga. Also, BAMS Colleges in Uttar Pradesh recommends Shishu Abhgyan for the well-being and physical development of a baby. From improved sleep patterns to enhanced emotional bonding, the benefits of this ancient practice resonate deeply within the hearts and minds of families who have embraced it as part of their daily routine.
Conclusion
Incorporating Shishu Abhyanga into your baby's daily routine can have numerous benefits, from promoting physical development to fostering emotional bonding. By following the techniques and tips outlined in this article, you can create a nurturing and enjoyable experience for both you and your little one.
Shishu Abhyanga, or baby massage, transcends the realm of mere physical touch; it's a profound expression of love and care. Through gentle strokes and nurturing touch, parents can enhance their bond with their little ones while promoting their overall well-being. By understanding the benefits, techniques, and precautions of Shishu Abhyanga, parents can embark on a journey of nurturing connection and holistic health for their babies.

The Importance of Sensory Play for Child Development
Childhood is a time of immense growth and development, and one of the most crucial aspects of this journey is sensory play. Sensory play involves engaging a child's senses—sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell—in activities that stimulate their curiosity and creativity. It plays a pivotal role in a child's cognitive, emotional, and physical development. In recent years, the concept of sensory rooms has gained popularity, offering dedicated spaces where children can explore and learn through sensory experiences. In this blog, we will explore the importance of sensory play and how you can build a sensory room to support your child's development.
Tumblr media
The Power of Sensory Play
Sensory play is not just about having fun; it is a vital component of early childhood development. Here are some of the key reasons why sensory play is so important:
1. Cognitive Development
Sensory play helps children build a strong foundation for cognitive skills. When children manipulate sensory materials like sand, water, or playdough, they learn about cause and effect, problem-solving, and basic maths and science concepts.
2. Emotional Development
Sensory play can be a source of comfort and emotional release for children. It helps them regulate their emotions, reduce stress, and express their feelings safely and creatively.
3. Language Development
Engaging in sensory activities allows children to explore and describe their experiences, which in turn enhances their language development. They learn new words, develop communication skills, and expand their vocabulary.
4. Motor Skills
Sensory play supports the development of fine and gross motor skills. Activities like finger painting, cutting, and pouring help children strengthen their hand muscles and improve coordination.
Tumblr media
5. Social Skills
Sensory play often takes place in a group setting, promoting social interaction and cooperation. Children learn to share, take turns, and work together, laying the foundation for healthy social relationships.
Building a Sensory Room
One effective way to harness the benefits of sensory play is by creating a sensory room in your home or educational setting. Here are some steps to consider how you can build a sensory room.
1. Choose a Suitable Space
Select a room or area that is quiet, comfortable, and free from distractions. Ensure it has good lighting and ventilation.
2. Sensory Materials
Stock the room with a variety of sensory materials such as soft cushions, textured fabrics, musical instruments, art supplies, and sensory toys. These items should cater to all five senses.
3. Safety First
Ensure the room is safe for children by securing furniture and materials. Avoid small objects that could be a choking hazard and use non-toxic, child-friendly products.
Tumblr media
4. Organisation
Create defined zones within the room for different sensory experiences. For example, designate an art corner, a tactile area, and a cosy reading nook.
5. Flexibility
Keep the sensory room adaptable to cater to your child's changing interests and needs. Rotate materials and activities to keep the experience fresh and exciting.
Wrapping Up Sensory Toy Warehouse offers imaginative sensory play as a fundamental building block for a child's development, enhancing cognitive, and emotional while fostering social skills. Understanding the Value of Kids' Doctor Games
Children's doctor games are essential for helping kids learn empathy, foster responsibility, and develop their fine motor abilities. These video games let kids assume the role of a doctor or nurse, encouraging concern and understanding for other people's health.
Looking at Games for Two-Year-Olds
Games are a crucial developmental milestone for children under the age of two. These games are made to sharpen players' cognitive functions, physical coordination, and social skills. Despite the fact that they might not specifically feature arithmetic puzzles, they lay a solid foundation for future mathematical study.
Selecting Fun Math Games for Your Child
After laying the basis, let's look at the essential steps to selecting the best cool math puzzles for your child:
Think about the age and developmental stage of your child
Age suitability is important while choosing cool math puzzles. Choose easy, tactile puzzles that require matching shapes or colors for 2-year-olds. Introduce more challenging puzzles as they become older to support their cognitive growth.
Examine the Interests of Your Child
When selecting cool math puzzles, take into account your child's hobbies. Are they interested in space, cars, or animals? Choose problems that reflect their interests. For instance, if your youngster like animals, search for puzzles that combine arithmetic concepts with animal themes.
Balance learning and fun
Cool math problems ought to be entertaining rather than daunting. Make sure the riddles you select are intriguing and enjoyable. Your child will be inspired to find solutions if there is a good mix between enjoyment and learning.
Increase Difficulty Gradually
Introduce harder puzzles progressively as your youngster advances. They will gradually gain confidence and problem-solving abilities thanks to this gradual approach.
Examine Your Digital Options
There are a ton of fun math puzzle apps and internet games available nowadays. These might be a useful addition to your child's toolset for learning because they offer engaging and instructive experiences.
Investigate Educational Value
Check the educational value of the fun math puzzles. Do they aim to instruct particular arithmetic ideas like addition, subtraction, or geometry? Pick puzzles that support your child's learning goals.
Read evaluations and suggestions
Don't be afraid to ask other parents or teachers for advice. You may make wise judgments by reading reviews and gathering first-hand information.
Promote Interaction with Others
Think about riddles that you can tackle with your friends or family. Social connection improves learning and encourages teamwork.
Conclusion:
Finally, selecting the ideal cool math puzzles for your child requires careful thought, taking into account their age, hobbies, and developmental stage. Even though games for toddlers and children who are playing doctors may not specifically entail math problems, they are crucial for fostering your child's general growth.

What is Ayurveda?
WHAT IS AYURVEDA?
Tumblr media
Ayurveda (pronounced ai-yr-vei-duh) is an ancient Indian holistic science that encompasses herbal supplements, nutrition, exercise, and other lifestyle practices to create complete balance in one’s body, mind, spirit.
Ayurveda, the knowledge of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge,) embraces the school of thought that disease can begin with an imbalance or stress in your consciousness. It is also based on the principle that the mind and the body are intrinsically connected, therefore, ayurveda involves expanding consciousness in order to regain balance of the mind and body. This rapidly growing alternative medicine is much more than a way of diagnosing illness, rather it is a way of life to become more radiant and joyful.
What are my doshas?
Ayurveda was established 5000 years ago with the foundation that every person has three driving life forces, called doshas, that determine unique mixtures of mental, physical, and emotional characteristics. These are the Vata (air), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (earth) doshas that each contain a myriad of the five elements of space, fire, water, earth, and air. Identifying your doshas will allow you to achieve a more harmonic life as you learn to balance them.
Each dosha controls different body functions. One typically presents stronger than the other two in each person. It is believed in Ayurveda that any health issues you may encounter are linked to your own balance of doshas.
VATA
Elements: Air and space
Primary Functions: Movement, communication
Vata dominant individuals tend to be quick thinking, slim, and fast-paced. They are vivacious individuals who are constantly moving, spiritually minded, overly tactile, and love nature. Vatas are susceptible to anxiety, dry skin, and feeling cold. These types learn quickly, but may have a poor memory, gain weight toward the middle of their bodies, and have an irregular appetite.
The vata qualities are clear, dry, light, mobile, cold, rough, and subtle. In the body, Vata commands breathing, cell division, and circulation, as well as the large intestine, bones, skin, ears, and thighs.
IN BALANCE: Vatas in balance are energetic, learn easily, focused, fall asleep easily at bedtime, balanced in digestion, and have good circulation with an even body temperature.
OUT OF BALANCE: The most likely to lose equilibrium, vatas out of balance are likely to experience fatigue, anxiety, forgetfulness, lack of focus, constipation, poor circulation with cold hands and feet, and difficulty falling asleep.
PITTA
Elements: Fire and water
Primary Functions: Digestion, transformation
Pitta dominant individuals are ambitious, competitive personalities with medium to strong builds. Pittas are perfectionists, focus well, and gain weight evenly or toward the bottom half of the body.
They are susceptible to anger, oily skin, inflammation, and heartburn. These types have a steady digestion and appetite, overheat easily, sleep well, and have great memory.
The pitta qualities are hot, mobile, liquid, oily, sharp, and light. In the body, pitta oversees hormones and the digestive system, as well as the small intestine, stomach, sweat glands, skin, blood, and eyes.
IN BALANCE: Pittas in balance have a glowing complexion, good vision, steady digestion, stable body weight, sharp intellect, and are content.
OUT OF BALANCE: Pittas out of balance can experience a lot of anger, irritability, hot flashes, eye troubles, rashes, and acne. They may also experience heart disease, stomach ulcers, and arthritis.
KAPHA
Elements: Earth and water
Primary Functions: Cohesiveness, structure
Kapha dominant individuals are tranquil, grounded people with solid body frames. They are patient, hard-working people who love the arts, food, warmth, and material possessions. Kaphas are susceptible to laziness, disliking cold weather, and sleeping a lot. These earthy types have well developed bodies, steady appetites, and soft, supple skin
The kapha qualities are soft, stable, smooth, slow, cold, heavy, dense, and sticky. In the body, kapha governs strength, immunity, and growth, as well as the chest, lungs, and spinal fluid.
IN BALANCE: Kaphas in balance are affectionate, courageous, generous, stable in temperament, and strong. They experience steady digestion and body weight, deep sleep and good long-term memory.
OUT OF BALANCE: The least likely to lose stability, kaphas out of balance may experience greediness, procrastination, inflammation, slow digestion, obesity, diabetes, depression, and respiratory issues.
Where do I start?
If you’re wondering where to start your ayurvedic journey, here are three simple steps to begin.
Take the quiz to learn your dosha
Understanding your principal natures will allow you to make discoveries about your body and behavior. Learn if you are in or out of balance with this quizand identify herbal remedies, nutrition, and lifestyle modifications to find or maintain equilibrium.
Start a morning and nighttime routine.
Establishing a routine in the morning and evening will allow your body and consciousness to find consistency. This stability creates radical change through regulation of the body’s biological clock, digestion, and food absorption, as well as self-esteem, peace, and longevity. By gifting yourself balanced discipline, you will create freedom for your mind, body, and spirit.
Schedule an Ayurvedic consultation
Sit down for a consultation with an ayurvedic practitioner to receive a comprehensive uncovering of your root ailments. A holistic view of your lifestyle, health history, and behavior are taken into consideration. Your practitioner will curate a personal treatment plan that may include herbal supplements, lifestyle changes to tackle emotional stressors, and other remedies.
Ayurveda can feel overwhelming at first. Take it one step at a time. If you’re ready to learn more about ayurveda and are interested in treatment, visit harmonyok.com to schedule a consultation today.

Brainstorming (24/2/23)
Tumblr media
The tutorial session today was pretty interesting since it made me think about metacognition and reflect on my own skills/weaknesses. I knew most of these things at some level, but it was helpful to write it all down and consider how they can be factored into my project. I realize that it’s important not only to consider your strengths but also your weaknesses, so that you can account for them and think about how to improve upon them even. It was also new for me to think about how these different thinking hats could be applied not only to the actual project development, but also in presenting that information to a client. Like if you’re very coordination clever, it might be really interesting and unique to present your brief in a physical and embodied way, rather than simply using a Powerpoint presentation.
I’m generally good at thinking analytically and tackling problems creatively, as well as speaking to people which is pretty helpful for things like project management where I can sit down and plan out a course of action, and get the resources I need. I can tend to overestimate my own ability to get things done though, and periods of distraction that can add to my work time.
I also sketched out some initial ideas for my project at this time, which was beneficial for me since I often get so engrossed in my research that I forget to actually start creating. It’s good practice to just put pen to paper and start jotting down ideas, especially since like most artists I’m a pretty visual thinker. I was trying to take to heart VJ’s advice about just creating, and to not get stuck in thinking too much.
I really liked some of the case studies from Art in Site that I looked at, which incorporated raised surfaces in their artwork so the pieces would be tactile and more human. I’m personally inspired by nature a lot so one of the first things that popped into my mind was fish scales and the flow of water, which is really calming to me. I’m also really drawn to the idea of being able to personalize the space you exist in though, since many patients in hospitals can feel like they’ve lost control over their lives or bodies. Being able to give people some measure of control over their environment when they’re suffering in other ways is something that could really help and benefit patients. I’m not quite sure which patient group I’d like to focus on yet but I’m still debating between children and the elderly (with mental illness.) I think I’m leaning towards the elderly in nursing homes since they’re more likely to be thrust into unfamiliar environments for long periods of time, and sometimes against their will. I definitely have to do more research about that topic though, since none of my family members have entered nursing homes or needed hospice care.

Why Realism in Games Isn’t Everything
As technology continues to progress, one of the things that most of us agree on is that games are becoming very, very photorealistic. Gone are the days when a game was just a few pixels on a screen. Today, it’s all about being “ultra-immersive” and “life-like”. Some of these games are basically movies.
When we begin to discuss the topic of realism in games, there are generally two schools of thought. The first agrees that games need to be as realistic as possible and the second thinks realism is overrated. I tend to fall in the latter group of thinkers. Realism, to me, is a bit too overrated and completely unnecessary.
However, my views don’t stem from my philosophical leanings on art and realism. My views here are actually a bit pragmatic. Let me break it down for you.
It’s All About Feel
Yes, realism can be great in games. But, I’d argue that there is more to a game than just realism. Your game can replicate or simulate reality exactly as it is but if it doesn’t offer a great game feel, then there’s really no point.
Games were primarily developed as a source of entertainment and fun. I would argue that this still remains the ultimate purpose.
Let’s take the example of sports games like FIFA. Yes, over the years, the various iterations of the football game have only become progressively more “real”. But, is that really the reason why we play FIFA?
At the end of the day, even a child knows that FIFA isn’t an actual game of football being played in an actual stadium. The gamer here is more than aware that it is all a simulation – simply an illusion. So, why is FIFA still selling like hot cakes?
Well, it’s about game feel. It’s that tactile sensation derived from being able to control a digital entity or person. The ability to transfer one’s intent into the character is what makes a game fun.
Realism Requires Too Much Effort and Energy
Those ultra-realistic worlds and characters are great to look at but do you know just how impractical they are? The sheer amount of energy and effort needed to just move a character requires a whole battalion of developers and tons of monetary resources.
Why spend all of that when you can make a memorable game with just good gameplay, narrative, plot, character arcs etc.?
To make things worse, there will come a time when all that effort will be meaningless. As technologies develop, what is realistic today won’t be realistic tomorrow. The hunger for more detail will only grow but a game with good gameplay or narrative will still sell, no matter what.
Realism Can Be a Hindrance
Reality has rules. For instance, you can’t jump of an aircraft from 30,000 feet and land on your feet. The physical laws that govern material reality will simply not allow for that. Now, imagine a game where the completion of the objective is hindered by it’s own realism? Doesn’t sound fun, right?
You see, games, like other forms of art, offer us the chance to escape reality. That’s what makes them fun. Games like GTA or Need for Speed are fun because you can drive cars on a busy street at nonsensical speeds. Something you’d never be able to do in the real word, at least not without inviting some serious trouble.
That brings me to...
Road Rash – 0% Realism. 100% Fun
If you were a 90s kid, especially one that grew up in India, there were a few game titles that you most likely played and enjoyed. Road Rash was definitely one of them. In fact, it was my favourite at the time and still remains special to me.
The game, which was released in 1991, was an addiction for many children in India. So, what made it fun? Realism? Not at all. There was absolutely no realism in this game, visually or otherwise. I mean, we’re talking about a game from the 90s. The entire game was about 5mb in size. So, you get the point.
What actually made the game fun and makes it fun even today is the aspect of vicariousness. As disturbing as it sounds, my peers and I enjoyed carrying out criminal activities within the game. We enjoyed it because we knew we could never do something like that in the real world. I lived as a criminal via the characters I played. It gave me a rush, but also made me feel secure in that I knew I was simply playing a game. Nobody was actually being hurt and no crime was really being committed.
In fact, that’s my point – too much realism in a game can be a threat to fun. Games allows us to live vicariously through their fictional and unreal nature.
What Does This Mean for My Practice?
So, as expressed above, I do not feel that realism is something that needs to be prioritized in game development. As a game designer, I believe there are tons of other elements, such as story, plot or gameplay, that can go a long way into making a game stand out. If that wasn’t the case, many of the hottest selling titles today wouldn’t sell at all.

Ceres Part 2
Tumblr media
Ceres in Aries: They love any physical activity, and often use it as a way to relax. They have a need to be independent and may be prone to self realisations. A lot of them. They need to be physically stimulated often, so they may fidget a lot or naturally snuggle up to people without even knowing that they're doing it. They value sharing experiences with the ones they love above any other type of gift. They find it much easier to show love, rather than to outright say it. They want to help their loved ones to find their independence. They are very protective but hate asking for help. They may have issues surrounding their own self-worth, even though they are the first person to boost the confidence of others. They need to allow themselves to work through their grief, rather than ignoring it.
Ceres in Taurus: Their love language may be touch; they absolutely love to be held and physically comforted by the ones they love. It's vital that their home is a place where they feel safe and loved, and they may like having physical reminders of good experiences in their home, such as having framed photos on the wall. They probably love comfort food, they just need to make sure that this doesn't become a problem. Eating some chocolate when you're sad is all good, but if you're doing it every day, then you should probably look into other ways of comforting yourself. They love to be pampered, even if they try to deny this fact or try to deny themselves this due to self-guilt. Things like massages may seem very appealing to them. They wish to provide financial stability for others, and find comfort through material matters, such as physical gifts. Any issues surrounding their finances will be particularly hard for them due to the comfort money usually gives them. They may be prone to being manipulated and/or manipulating others. It depends on the rest of their chart. They don't like to let go of their grief, which is very unhealthy for their grieving process and wellbeing as a whole.
Ceres in Gemini: They grow when communicating with new people in a positive way, even if they're more introverted than extroverted. It's important for them to be kind or at least civil with more or less everyone they meet. They may find themselves drawn to education, whether that means following higher education, going into the sector as a career, or just constantly having a need to learn new things. Places like libraries or old bookshops may be appealing and comforting to them. They like to talk things through as a form of care for themselves and for others. They may be more comfortable with verbally expressing their love rather than showing it. They love to spend time with the ones they truly love. Their identity may be primarily built of their intellect, so they may have some confidence issues surrounding this. They can't easily deal with rejection. Despite this, they quite literally reject their emotions during times of grief. They need to talk to others in times of hardship.
Ceres in Cancer: They tune into their maternal side and instincts when caring for others, and like to be treated in a similar way. They are very protective of their family and feel like they have a duty to look after them. Remember that this doesn't necessarily mean your biological family. Just like those with Taurus in this placement, it's important that their home is a safe and loving environment. Their home is their special place and should be treated as such. They want to provide this sense of security for their loved ones, and they really do want to care for them. These people often make great parents if they decide to have children. If not, they would at least be quite good with kids. They love to form emotional bonds and connections with others, and this comes very easy to them. However, they might deal with abandonment issues and/or self-esteem issues. They also may have a tendency to cling on to their grief for fear of moving on and forgetting. They need to remember that it's okay to get on with their life; they shouldn't be bound by their grief.
Ceres in Leo: Self-expression and developing their creativity is vital for their self-growth. They have a strong need to be recognised and appreciated and struggle greatly when they feel like they're not loved. Deep down they are a true artist and may be gifted in a certain form of art. Caring for others gives them a huge sense of pride and they might centre their identity around how they do this. They truly want to do their best with their care and are not ones to do this half-heartedly without good reason. They feel loved when they're at the centre of someone else's attention. They thrive on praise from others but they need to learn how to not always rely on this. They need to be able to motivate themselves and this is something they are destined to learn during their lifetime. They are confident in their care but it can lack a sense of empathy. They are good at raising other's confidence, and often do this by recognising the originality of others.
Ceres in Virgo: As most Virgo placements would also imply, anyone with this one probably has some kind of workaholic mentality. They value their work highly and often won't stop until they feel like they're done. They care for other people through discipline, so their way of showing you that they care would be telling you where you're going wrong and why you shouldn't do that. This makes them sound like an overbearing parent or teacher, but they just want to protect you from making bad decisions, and this seems to be the easiest way to do it. They can be harsh when doing this, so they should be told when to rein it in, but they really do care and aren't being mean for the sake of it. They love to help others improve their general skills because they really want them to go far in life. They generally take criticism well because they understand why they're being criticised and know that it will help them in the long run. They love to learn new things, especially in a tactile way. They define themselves based on their achievements, but because of this they can unrealistically high expectations. They go through grief rather quickly, which means that they can overlook what they need to work through. They need to take more time for themselves more often.
Ceres in Libra: These people are highly focused on helping other people, which they often do by expressing their acceptance of their loved ones, and by building a stable relationship with them. They're very good at adapting to the specific needs of specific people, as they understand that everyone is different, and are very observant when it comes to this. It doesn't take them long to work out what a certain person wants/needs. They thrive on communication and stability with a person, and they love to share with them. They also love general intimacy, and this doesn't necessarily mean just sex. They can be selfless to the point of neglecting themselves completely, and this is a hard thing for them to overcome because they base their identity so much through others. They need to learn how to put themselves first and how to separate themselves from other people. Their identity is their own. They are quite open with their emotions so grief isn't as difficult as it could be.
Ceres in Scorpio: People with this placement want to have real connections with the people in their lives. They care for others through any and all kinds of intimacy, and like to be treated in a similar fashion. They don't favour emotional or physical care, tending to combine the two instead. They try to inspire their loved ones to achieve their very best because they think personal transformation is very important. Growth and control are also valued highly with this placement. They prefer to stifle their emotions, so they unknowingly make dealing with grief more difficult for themselves than it could be. They need to learn how to open up more to others.
Ceres in Sagittarius: People with this placement absolutely love to learn and explore, and they need the freedom to do so in order to feel loved. This is how they best grow and thrive. They want to inspire and support the other people in their lives so that they can help them do their best and get through hard times. Their own confidence and optimism helps them greatly with this. They also tend to use their own past experiences and knowledge to help others. They like to build their identity on these things, as well as their beliefs, morals and, to an extent, their loved ones. They have a tendency to avoid grief, preferring to stay strong for other people. That isn't to say that they ignore their grief altogether. They do work through it at some point, it just takes them longer than most.
Ceres in Capricorn: This placement is an indicator that the native holds recognition and achievement in very high esteem. They feel that other people truly care about them when they try to help them achieve their best. Stability is also very important to them and is the main reason why they want to be successful. They're quite big on responsibility and discipline because it's important to them that the people in their lives also achieve success. This focus that they have can mean that they are sometimes too hard on themselves, so they need to understand where to draw the line. They need to learn that their self-worth is not just defined by their achievements in life, and that failure is not necessarily a bad thing. They sometimes feel guilty for dealing with their emotions and grief because they don't think they have the time to work through that side of themselves. They need to learn that this isn't true.
Ceres in Aquarius: These people like to support their loved ones through genuine friendship and by defending them. They loved individuality as a whole and it's vital to them that the people in their life are accepting of one's individuality. They try to make sure that their loved ones feel wanted and respected. They like to be treated in a similar way but they also need a lot of freedom. They need to feel like they're able to breathe. Their role in their community is important to their identity, as well as their connections, originality and creativity. Their politics and what they believe in is also crucial. They may struggle with intimacy and intense emotions because of their tendency to be somewhat of a lone wolf. They're the type of person to have lots of friends but not many close ones. They prefer to detach themselves from their feelings.
Ceres in Pisces: People with this placement are great at understanding and emotionally supporting others. They're selfless to the point of self-sacrifice when it comes to their loved ones, especially to their children. They want to be strong and dependable for others as much as they can. They are sympathetic, compassionate and hugely accepting. They have a large and very alive imagination which needs to be constantly fuelled. They have a tendency to work themselves to the bone so they need to be reminded that they deserve to have a break and be looked after. They sometimes have issues related to their self-worth because they mainly define themselves by how they support others. They constantly feel like they need to be helping someone. Grief can be difficult for them because they feel their emotions so intensely. They are easily overwhelmed by their feelings so they need to learn how to cope in a different way.

what do you think Nathan would do if his girl wasnt in the mood for sex... like, nonsexual intimacy with Nathan Bateman,,, what would that he like I wonder
Thanks for the ask, Anon, and sorry it took a while to respond! I’m not sure if this is exactly what you wanted but I hope you like it! :D If you don’t, I’m sure you will at least enjoy the GIF :P
Affection (Nathan Bateman headcanons)
Tumblr media
GIF: @yoongifilm
So, I think Nathan has all sorts of non-sexual ways to be intimate. Intimacy can be so many things! Sure, he’s got quite a high sex drive, but if his partner isn’t feeling it he’ll never push. He knows when he can tease a little to win you over and when it’s clearly a hard nope.
Nathan can be reluctant to show affection and emotions, especially in “typical” ways, but if he cares for someone and they engage him in the right way (and put in the work to decipher him) he really opens up (I mean, compared to before, still not a ton :P).
So, what are some of the ways he will get intimate, and spend his time with you?
First of all, Nathan isn’t a small talk kinda guy. He prefers deep, passionate discussion, and he loves the intimacy of a deep conversation with you, over dinner, out on the deck looking at the moon and stars, or curled up somewhere cosy in the house under a blanket. He loves how your mind works differently to his, how you alert him to some of his blindspots, and how you surprise and challenge him. He also loves that you can keep up with him, and he loves that he can express himself fully without judgement. The two of you have had so many lengthy discussion on philosophy, ethics, AI, art, music, humanity, the meaning of life, that movie you watched the other night that you have conflicting theories about... the list goes on. Nathan loves knowledge, and there are so many topics he’s interested in and passionate about (learning about you now being one of them, and when he’s interested in something, he goes all in!).
When the two of you are in your safe bubble of intense conversation, you love the way his dark eyes animate and his hands wave to express himself as he talks to you. You love how when you speak he truly listens, and the way you can see him processing your input and adjusting his theories at a mile a minute. He’s incredibly cultured and well-read (and obviously a genius), and you’re in awe of him, and there’s also something special about him taking the time to share his knowledge with you. You love this kind of intimacy, especially when he gets excited about an idea and you see that rare and happy spark in his usually calculating eyes. It really shows how much he trusts you, even with classified ideas and some of his inner and more personal thoughts. Plus, you’re the only one who gets to share and see this side of Nathan, when he can be so closed-off to everyone else.
Sure, sometimes the discussion will get heated, and often you end up teasing each other and having some banter, but knowing that you also make each other laugh is also a really important part of your relationship. Nathan has a dark, singular sense of humour, which is a little hard to pin down, but now that you know him well, he can always bring a smile to your face. Even better if one of his cheap, crude comments draws that dirty, throaty chuckle from you that he likes so much.
Sometimes it’s physical affection. Whilst physical affection seems more important for you than it is for Nathan, that’s not to say it doesn’t feature. Your favourite thing is the way he has you sit on his lap as he taps away on his laptop, just so he can hold your body close to his and feel the heat and weight of you settle on him while he works. His lips will find your hairline to pepper unconscious kisses onto you at intervals, and every now and again his fingers will lightly and absent-mindedly wander over your skin. Strangely, you enjoy his physical touches a lot when his head is half in his work, as you can simply enjoy it without wondering if he’ll want to escalate things, or whether one or both of you will end up making a comment that will prickle the other. Like this, when you’re both quiet and still and just enjoying this closeness, you can truly appreciate his soft affection, and you can feel how much he likes having you around. Plus, he’s beautiful when he’s concentrating on something, bathed in blue light, his eyes intense one moment and then ever so slightly softening; for example, when you brush the buzzed hair at the nape of his neck, wriggle on his lap, or nuzzle closer to him. You love the little hums he emits, and you’d never point it out to him as you’re not even sure he knows he’s doing it. You feel utterly content, and, even better, you can tell how much it relaxes him too. He always seems to get his best work done when you’re soothing him.
I mean, to be honest, the fact Nathan allows you to be by his side at all, shows how comfortable he is being intimate with you, in ways he would never be with anyone else. He’s let you into his private space fortress, and into all of his secrets. Nathan can be quite introverted, and often needs to retreat from everything , going through intense periods of inspiration where he isolates. People can exhaust him... he’s just not good at peopling. Basically, there aren’t many people he could stand to be around constantly. You two, however, have developed a comfortable way of being, whether you’re working out together, hiking together, cooking dinner together, or working on opposite sides of the room, you have this blissful, comfortable silence with one another. You feel free enough to be yourself and you think he does too.
Nathan does care for you, and the way he notices a lot of little details about you is really touching. Sure, a lot of the times he might be an asshole, self-involved, and completely oblivious when you try to verbalise your feelings, but he’s a lot better at picking-up on a lot of your physical cues (he’s spent a long-time studying body language and he’s very in-tune with your body, which he loves, by the way). He might tend to a small wound that is worse than you let on mid-way through a hike, pulling you aside and carefully, wordlessly patching you up with a stern expression. He might notice you twinging from that niggle in your back and slip up behind you to rub your shoulders as you stir the food in the saucepan. He’s also very conscious of keeping you safe and healthy, and while you may not find love notes all over the house, sometimes the snack he leaves for you on the corner of your desk shows he cares just as much as something sappy would.
He’s not a super snuggly person, and he doesn’t really like lying down and “doing nothing” (even when you try to explain the benefits), but on the ocassions you can get him to stay in bed a little longer, or coax him breifly into a warm bath, he will wrap those strong arms of his around you and hold you close from behind, planting a soft kiss on your shoulder, his beard nuzzling and tickling at you. There is no better feeling than this. You think , over time, that Nathan’s even come to enjoy it more too, as, sometimes, when you fear that you’ve held him in place too long, it turns out he doesn’t want to let go, and will find some excuse to stay just that little bit longer. (The first time you convince him to be little spoon in bed as well, oh my GOD. He almost jumps up immediately and practically flees, however, you’ve noticed him backing himself up to you at night, on the rare ocassions he needs a little affection of his own. You are nice enough not to tease him.)
Also, Nathan’s not super tactile unless sex is involved, but he’ll let you do little things for him, like massage and oil his sore muscles, or run sweet-smelling oils through his beard, or even shave his head for him (the first time was hilarious). You know no-one else would get to do this for him, and so it always feels special to touch him and take care of him like this.
Basically, Nathan likes being around you.
And, on the occassions where he’s not pissing you off, you feel exactly the same.

In the Interest of Mischief
Summary: Working for someone as eccentric and unpredictable as Tony Stark, even with the occasional buffer of Pepper Potts on your side, is exactly the kind of chaos you love to keep you on your toes.
After all, there's nothing you enjoy more than a little mischief.
Pairing: Loki/Reader
Word Count: 1,388
Tumblr media
"Ms. Potts has a meeting with the caterers for the charity banquet at 1:15 that overlaps with your lunch gathering with this quarter's investors.  I'll be coming with you in her place, so don't worry about having things handed to you," you called out, the pragmatic tone and offhanded flipping through the folders of papers in your hands at risk of being nullified by the smallest pull at the corner of your lips.
"See?  This is why you're almost my favorite," his teasing tone carried over the pulsing melody of rock music and the occasional clunk of the components he worked with in the workshop, "You’d have it in the bag if you could get me out of it entirely."
He peeked around the suit he had been modifying, signature smirk on his face, and wiping his hands on the grease-stained rag that he had resting on his shoulder.
"I think keeping both of us on Ms. Potts' good side is worth giving up the title.  I'll see you downstairs in an hour," you threw over your shoulder with a slight nod of your head as you made your way out, the sound of your heels on the smooth concrete quickly covered by the rising volume of music coming back full force.
As the secure doors closed behind you, you couldn't help the huff of a laugh that gently shook your shoulders.  Working with, and for, someone like Tony Stark really made the usual stuffiness of a professional setting bearable in ways that you couldn't help but be thankful for.  While not everyone you interacted with on a daily basis shared the same easygoing personality that he did, the effect of his presence rested on your shoulders like a pleasant, if at times annoying, blanket.
There were other people in the tower that had a similar aura that you were always thankful to be around, while it was a relatively rare occurrence for you to cross their paths.  Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, for example, were a practically inseparable pair and the metaphorical spring and winter of the team that always seemed to keep each other, and subsequently those around them, in orbit.  Steve's warm and encouraging words paired with Bucky's cool and refreshing candidness often helped calm your nerves, even in your first impromptu meeting with the national heroes you had learned about in history books.
Clint Barton, Sam Wilson, and Natasha Romanov offered a healthy combination of emotional intellect and teasing, the latter of which reached its peak with the addition of the Asgardian brothers' frequent visits to the tower.  If Steve and Bucky were spring and winter, then Thor was summer, bright and cheery in a way that was so uncommon that you almost felt bad for being in his company when you often radiated waves of barley managed stress.
His brother, Loki, however, was an entirely unique presence that you found yourself drawn to in ways that outclassed the general sociability you had with the others.  You didn't know what to make of him upon your first interaction with each other, and that fact hadn't changed much in the time you've known him.  This didn't stop you from pushing the limits of professional conversation with him every time you were given the opportunity, much to the discomfiture of his teammates.  The two of you seemed to take an unspoken amount of joy in making them uncomfortable (especially if it was in the form of burning on the tips of Steve's ears and an overexaggerated eye roll from Clint or Sam).
Raking your eyes over the paperwork that rested in your arms—which, much to your chagrin, you still needed to finish sorting before J.A.R.V.I.S. urged Tony to pause his work to attend the meeting with you—you took mental stock of what else you needed to complete before you could consider going home for the day.  While long days weren't abnormal, your schedule was atypical at best, much like your job description.
Picking up your pace and rounding the corner towards the hallway that houses your office, you make it all but a half dozen steps before you were colliding with a wall.  Before you have a chance to consider how you managed to achieve a feat as embarrassing as failing to navigate the floor you've been working in for such an extended period of time, you're saved from the sharp pain of landing on the carpeted but unyielding ground beneath you by a solid tug.
Not a wall, then, you congratulate yourself silently.
The pressure of cool hands seeps through the material of your blouse, radiating from the palms on your lower back and bicep.  The shock of the difference in temperature pricks your skin in a way that is stimulating and not at all unpleasant and the sudden jolt combined with the new sensations sends your mind spinning.
Prying your eyes open from where they had squeezed shut in preparation for your anticipated fall, you're met with an expanse of leather pulled over broad shoulders.  Recognizing your savior's uniform, you don't even try to keep the kittenish expression off of your face as you bring your eyes up to meet his.
His features are schooled into one of bold and artful mischievousness, a look that you know he wears with pride often.  The slight crinkling at the corners of his eyes and the slow spread of his smile is both familiar and welcome.
"Careful, little mouse.  If you keep running around like that you'll make a habit of getting caught in traps," he purred, unabashedly pulling you forward into the cage of his arms.
While the sobriquet was hardly a new development, the surge in physical contact certainly was.  In the time you had known Loki, neither of you had crossed the boundary of including tactile signals into your unspoken interest in each other beyond the occasional and accidental brushing of skin when standing or passing too close.  If he was making a move to tip the scales so drastically, you could hardly find it in yourself to stop him.
"If all of the traps look like this one then I don't think that I would mind," you replied, basking in the pleasant mix of his earthy musk, something you had likened to sandalwood and rain-soaked soil in your early exchanges, and the chilled surface of his uniform a hair's breadth away from you contrasting with his rapidly warming hands.
"I'm afraid to tell you that there aren't any that can compete, it was made by a god after all."
The teasing raise of his eyebrow and tilt of his head was bordering on criminal, which was painfully on-brand for the man, god, in front of you.
"Doesn't every good trap have a treat?  Or is there some enticing morsel you have hidden away for me?"
"Why, my dear, did you just proposition me?" he questioned, letting his hand on your arm slide to rest on your hip, "Because while that is incredibly flattering and I am aware that I am not exactly the embodiment of gentlemanly charms, I do believe there are some other steps that must be accomplished first.  Not only by Midgardian standards but also those of 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes', who I believe would return me to my holding cell should I be discovered tainting your believed innocence."
The fact that not only had he taken your bold statement in stride but had also implied that he had considered the possibility and implications of something beyond playful workplace flirting sent a warm buzzing through your chest.
"I don't think you need to worry about my innocence, but there is a play being put on downtown if you'd like to join me?  I've heard that you are quite the playwright yourself."
The comment caused him to tilt his head back with an exasperated huff.
"Curse Thor and his tales.  You know, I have just as many unflattering memories of him to share."
"Oh, I'm sure.  You'll have to tell me while we eat.  You do owe me a treat."
His head dropped forward again as he ducked his head close to yours, warm breath tickling your ear as he hummed, "Don't worry, little mouse.  I have many things planned for you to look forward to."

Today was... almost completely unproductive, even for me, due to various mental Crises that arose in the like... Venn diagram overlap of my sundry issues. Mental health talk below the cut so you can avoid it if you’ve got your own shit to deal with/might be triggered by that kind of thing.
Kinda did almost a checklist of disorders being problems. ADHD brain? Represented. Autism? Probably! Depression? You betcha. Anxiety? Hoo boy and then some. Mania? Maybe! Self-loathing? Energy levels off the charts, cap’n. Basically my brain was the equivalent of blaring alarms from all quarters and spinning out of control.
Tumblr media
Anyhow I eventually managed to... not be doing that ...and in the process kinda realized that maaaaybe I haven’t been Handling My Shit as well as I thought. Like I’m medicated... for depression. Which is good! I haven’t thought seriously about literally killing myself for several years now. That’s a big improvement! Not to be sneezed at. But it’s hardly a panacea for the rest of my bullshit.
Anyhow anyhow I’ve internalized a loooot of really horrible shit I’m always speaking out against as an anti-capitalist pro-mutual-aid aspiring feminist; basing my self-worth on lots of unattainable things that I don’t even believe in but that somehow equate to me being a Failure as a Man(TM) for being a hot mess disability soup. Some of it is also no doubt related to the whole ‘Gifted’ Kid Burnout phenomenon as well. I was ‘a pleasure to have in class’ and always sought approval and validation because I had anxiety, not because I was gifted, sheesh. Whole childhood equating my value with being ‘smart’ and then having my entire ego collapse under the inevitable weight of not being able to hack it in my first attempt at college because my brain was actively trying to kill me with self-hatred that only got worse the more I failed to live up to my ‘potential’.
I’m much less of an elitist shitbag these days regarding myself as no different from any other h. sapiens sapiens in that we are all fundamentally dumb, panicky apes who sometimes need a minute to remember the whole tool-use or reason things. But while I’m really good at not holding it against other people for being dumb panicky apes, even though I don’t regard myself as better than anyone (far from it) I still somehow hold myself to these standards I long since dismissed as unreasonable to expect of anyone, much less a guy with a grab-bag of mental illnesses that makes his spongy thinkmeat even less effective than biology normally dictates. And inevitably fail to live up to them, of course. And then feel worse about myself. Forever. Well, ok, not forever, even if I do continue to manage the no-self-murder streak (which seems likely) I’m still definitely going to kick off at some point. But for my whole damn existence, which sucks plenty.
Anyhow anyhow anyhow here goes the first of hopefully many simple admissions of imperfections and forgiveness of that.
I am not a digital artist. I could spend lots of time and effort to develop those skills, but frankly I don’t... wanna. Instead of feeling guilty at having abandoned pursuit of the lovely art tablet my family got me many years ago that they ‘wasted’ their gift, I can just admit that I’d much rather continue drawing in pencil, inking in pigment liners, and scanning into a digital format for sharing on the internet. I like tactile hobbies; it’s why I get so much out of painting miniatures. And digital art is still tactile in that you’re holding a stylus and/or tablet, but it’s not the same, and I prefer physical art on physical paper. And that’s okay.
I am not a fantastic dungeon master. I’m aight. I am, in the words of the best mug ever (a gift from my sister), the “World’s Okayest Dungeon Master.” I can put together a campaign, it will mostly hang together, my combat encounters will vary from ‘pretty good’ to ‘super boring’ but my plots are generally interesting and my players keep coming back so I must be doing something right.
This one’s kind of cheating because I’ve acknowledged it before both publicly and internally for like... fifteen years ...but I am not, and never will be, a world-class miniature painter. I don’t have the manual dexterity, the patience for producing and executing many many layers of very fine glazes, or a strong enough desire to devote more effort to improvement than befits a hobby I mostly do to relax. And that’s okay. I paint pretty good, and I slowly get better. Sometimes I’m the best painter in my local store! And that’s good the hell enough to satisfy my external competitiveness, while my internal competitiveness of striving to do better than I myself have done before gets all the real attention. I do want to improve! And so I do, but at a steady pace that doesn’t stress me out.
I’m not a diligent writer at all. I like writing, and I love coming up with plots and characters, but I’m terrible at sticking to a daily writing habit. I’d like to get better at that, and I can, with effort. Honestly giving myself permission to write more fannish bullshit (Warhammer stories, SW:tOR stories, D&D stories) might help clear some of the roadblock. I don’t shit on other fan writers; I long ago admitted that it’s valid and cool when other people do it, but to this day I have still only written a handful of Warhammer bullshit and one (1) Mass Effect fanfic. All the while my idea for a novel has grown and evolved and never really gotten past a very rough first draft that is now almost completely useless due to rethinking everything because I’m not in the habit of actually writing. I can do something about that!
I desperately want everyone to like me and think well of me and never be mad at me but you know what, that’s not... remotely achievable much less healthy. I have various tendencies toward ‘people pleasing’ that tend to end up with my own boundaries trodden upon and far more people taking advantage than real friends. I am very fortunate in that I DO have some real friends, many of them online, but yeah. It’s okay if not everyone likes me. Even if they somehow did, it wouldn’t make up for the all-consuming singularity-like wound of self-loathing that the people-pleasing urge is probably trying to fill.
I can be unreliable due to my many, many issues. Most of them are mental, but some of them are physical. I can’t always do things that should be ‘easy’, whether it’s my brain saying no, or my body. Instead of making too many promises for fear of ‘looking’ disabled and/or trying to make everyone happy... sometimes I need to admit that there are things I do not have the capacity for. Preferably ahead of time, rather than bailing at the last minute or just.... not showing up. This probably would’ve been good to know about myself before I nearly failed out of college in my first attempt but hey, hindsight and all that.
I might be about as cis and straight as a guy can get, but I am not and will never be anything remotely like an Idealized Man due to my weight, disabilities, general body type (even at my thinnest I had a belly pooch and flabby chest), shit, right down to my hair but that’s got some big overlap with the Idealized Man being a straight-haired white boy when I’m merely a wavy/curly-haired white-passing boy. And shit, if I had some gender fuckery that’d be a whole other animal, but even though I kinda got assigned male and went ‘Yeah that’s about right’ I still deserve to not have to live up to some unattainable ideal.
There’s... a lot more, obviously (hoo boy is there a lot more) but that’ll do for a start.
