I just found a draft of a WIP I totally forgot I was writing when I was a teenager and it is digging its claws into me

This book is really barely more than Strong Vibes but it had a character that was raised in a more intense and even more soulless version of the peacekeepers in Farscape, like military society, kids trained from basically birth, don’t know their families, but now with Even More Brainwashing and Creepy Cultlike Stuff.

Character doesn’t even have a name or permanent numerical designation, the absolutely only identifying thing they have is a chip in their wrist that is only readable by computers and is used when assigning missions. On every mission you get a different designation number or code name. They are stripped SO completely of any sense of identity.

Character never been on a planet, never even was taught about planets in schooling or taught what a family is or anything even academically. Has no concept of gender because reproduction is completely done in a lab and no biology of any type is ever taught to the grunt soldiers.

Additionally: never heard music.

Turns out they are an absolute musical prodigy the SECOND they are introduced to music

Like off the charts August rush nonsense.

Then proceeds to have crisis after crisis about that because if I wasn’t taught this then it must be heresy, but how could anything so perfect and beautiful not be from god

#I’m certainly not going to finish writing this book but by god I wish someone would #I want to read this story #Vi isn’t even like the main character it’s very much an ensemble cast #but man that whole story line is GRIPPING me #I want to know how their life progresses #also actually READING the draft itself is so painful my teenage writing was SO BAD #but like I remember what I was picturing and conceptualizing at the time and that hypothetical scene is what I get playing in my head #despite the very cringe writing #it’s the Vibes man #there are SO MANY VIBES #I have a lot of visual sets and musical pieces and emotional beats flowing in my head about it #not a lot of words #why am I a writer #like literally fr fr why did writing become my main art form that I’m freaking compelled to do #when 98% of my ideas are visual and music #and I have no idea how to translate that to words #I started writing before I could physically WRITE.#I made little books when I was like 2 and 3 of pictures I cut out of magazines and pasted into paper and stapled together #in some order that my toddler brain understood to be a narrative #like literally why did I gravitate to writing books when words are my least skillful area #maybe because making a tv series is what I’m designed for but don’t have the budget for lol 😂#probably why exodus terminal is my longest running and most likely to be completed project #I’ve written close to a million words in Exodus (most of them not linearly connected)#whereas my MOST completed other work was 50k #most books I’ve started get something like 3k-10k total words #spread over like 5-20 disconnected scenes #before I lose motivation #writing a book series paced like a tv series is really where I’m finally getting traction #also building the exodus terminal video game is getting those Visual Art energies out of my body when I don’t have Word Energy

But it's always fair #And if you want to hurt it during that attack you will make it harder on yourself #The pinball bumpers are so good #And the fact that the enemies it spawns try to bop it towards the bumpers is insane it's so clever #Incorporating the fact that the battering lento likes to play with the big balls which you learned from previous stages to be a behavior #that they have. By having them now play with this boss which is a giant ball #ITS ALL SO COOL

don't know what to do with myself these next two days before artfight starts. more blender tutorials? studies? landscapes like i've been wanting to? tear through the last lotr book? tear through a language workbook? finally open my paints? transfer my digital campaign notes to the notebook i got specifically for those notes i was too scared to use? play elden ring and get through the first area? catch up on ffxiv? finish ender lilies years after i started it? make calzones? mmm calzones.

heres to another 3 hours (at minimum) of school work! (ive been sick since last week Wednesday. ive been working on catching up since 8:30am. its is currently 6pm. ive taken another small dose of adhd meds so either this work is getting done or im ending up on the news)

I've been wanting to make my own set of tarot cards for a while now but wasn't sure how. I found out that my local metaphysical shop sells blank decks (!!) so I'm finally starting to design them! It's going to take a while, of course, but I'm enjoying just kinda going on instincts instead of exhausting myself by overthinking a theme I may or may not want to stick with by the time I'm done sketching and start painting them.

this is so silly. one of the perks of having goody gardens as a thing is that it gives me an excuse to have like 50 billion fursonas. but then i'll keep thinking "but what about my truesona" as if that doesn't completely defeat the purpose

#melonposting #like oh my god. my brain for some reason cannot handle having multiple entities to describe myself unless i put that in its own framework #like goody gardens being an imagination world and such (it's imaginary so it doesn't have to obey physics or whatever)#and i'm like yay!! i couldn't describe myself with just one fursona/persona anyway #but there's something about having one that is generally me that's appealing and it's annoying that it just doesn't really work for me #i mean hey mr. nice guy used to just be my persona - and he was a personified version of my objectsona anyway #and now he's part of that larger framework #i still go by mr. nice guy because i think he's the most central to me. like he's the 'protagonist' of goody gardens so to speak #but the others are just as 'me' as he is #i dunno. as it is it's annoying just picking one animal for each goody gardens character #and i don't want to just have every animal as an option cuz that kinda takes away the meaning #but like with my difficulty suspending my disbelief...#if i ever want to play splatoon right? i'd be a cephalopod of some sort in that game #so in order for my brain to believe that i could 'be in that game' i must have a cephalopod fursona for at least one goody gardens characte #and so on and so forth #for bluey i must have a dog fursona. for ducktales i must have a bird. for my little pony i must have some sort of ungulate #and then for the bluey example: honey-doo gets a dog fursona cuz that suits her #and that fursona being attached to her would inevitably affect that dog's design and breed and personality and so on #which means that the dog she'd be might not be the dog *i'd* be (as in my whole person)#which is confusing and annoying #so then what - for every fursona there's two versions? one general one and one goody gardens character specific? that's so weird though #i have a vague idea of what those general ones might be like (brown or yellow with rainbow accents) but it's still soooo confusing :[#god it's times like this when i realize that autism isn't good or bad it's just weird and annoying sometimes #like god forbid these two completely inconsequential things not match up perfectly. god forbid #like golly it could not matter less!!!!! stop worrying about this you silly goose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#anyway sorry for this. i have work to do :'D i need to read karl marx haha

I feel like if I had a stronger foundation in woodblock and printmaking as like a physical medium this piece would be a lot less tedious and challenging for me

#personal #but that's allllllll about mimicking the styles of physical art in a purely digital form #I am enjoying myself! but a LOT of the challenge of this piece #is wanting to mimic a specific style #knowing what makes that style recognizable and the theoretical mechanics of how that look is achieved #but having extremely limited irl experience with it #and getting hung up on the kind of. more abstract concepts of art theory and execution. I say abstract #I mean things like 'hm would this curl be this sharp or defined in this style?'#'what order would these printing blocks be layered in? (LOL. LMAO)'#'how the fuck am I going to do their stripes and have them look distinct from the shading'#etc.#and that's not even getting into what's going to come next (the lettering and design elements)#there's. a reason why a lot of my pieces take for fucking ever these days. and its not just early onset arthritis and depression #a good deal of the process is. I open a new canvas. I spend 6 hours collecting references and researching x technique I want to mimic #I tend to. do something new every time I start a piece. does not make for expeditious art

Btw now that I’ve suddenly become a bike advocacy blog for a couple hours let me point out there’s more to bike infrastructure than a bikelane - even a separated one with protective barriers. So much more.

#something very basic a lot of infrastructure fails at is that failing at this basic premise:#the infrastructure must be continuous; preferably uninterrupted as much as possible; and to go to destinations people wanna go to #and also the design of the car infrastructure must be geared to slow down the driver when necessary #not just through the use of signs #but by physical and psychological nudges that cause the driver to subconsciously slow down #such as narrowing the road in order to make the driver feel like they’re going too fast to be comfortable #or by changing the road surface to one which causes the driver to automatically take notice #or even by planting trees close to the road
