I don't really share my usual art here but—
I started learning embroidery today and it's s my first project of the year. this photo of two beautiful girls with a big flower bouquet was thrifted a while ago. there was no notes on it, so the only thing I know is that's pretty old. I just loved how lively and warm it looks, and I'm glad I was finally able to bring colors to it.

Hey, if you do crafts (especially things like crochet, knitting, embroidery, etc), make sure to look up how to identify when a listing is AI generated. You do NOT want to waste money on an incredible looking kit or pattern that is physically impossible to make, especially if you're on sites like etsy hoping to support an actual artist.
#as an embroiderer: big red flags are curved straight or satin stitches#stitches that you cannot identify or figure out at all#thread that fades into other colors#backgrounds that match the piece weirdly well (like a floral embroidery piece with a matching vase and flowers on the table)#and a lack of videos of the piece and photos from other angles

It's Done!
Three months of work from start to finish! All so I could finally present to the world:
Pocket, Minecraft Edition:
Some standard rambles and fun progress images under the cut :)
So, I started this project in early August, mostly as something I could do during downtime of a then upcoming trip.
I had seen some absolutely amazing art pieces by @royalnaym which kinda gave me the idea that minecraft rendered in pixel art has a pretty interesting while still very recognizable look. At the same time I came across @groupcritpowerdynamics 's speedrun pastel pieces and those really inspired me to try depicting my favourite game in one of my favourite mediums!
In the middle of August 6th, while in the middle of packing for my trip to the UK, I decided I wanted to do this and I wanted to have it to work on during the trip, so I loaded up minecraft and went looking for a screenshot worthy of immortalization. Unfortunately I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so I made a brand new world and started looking around for the right vibes.
I knew I wanted a lone tree, and that if I ended up including the hot bar I wanted some hearts and food missing, so after running around for a few minutes I decided I would just do it myself and planted a sapling to serve as my centrepiece.
I gotta say I think the resemblance is striking!
And now as promised, the progress gif: mind the slight flashing, I did take these in all manner of different places including but not limited to: a plane, a handful of buses, and a small inn on the shores of England (not in that order).
It's pretty neat to me that you can see how different tones of lighting affect the perceived colour of the thread, I definitely noticed it more on this piece verses other larger stitch projects.
#orange peels#I am so extremely happy with this patch#life has been hectic these past few weeks and getting to finish a project of this scale is so rewarding#minecraft#embroidery#I do wish I had more photos of the buttonhole stitching going on but I am the one true hater of the buttonhole stitch#so I was more just in a rush to get it over with#1k

@oonajaeadira wanted to see the embroidery so here they be:
(I’m still learning!!)
I added detail to the veil in the third picture, alas I did not take a picture of it before it was gifted. I need to get my butt moving on a few more but that requires a trip to the craft store and I haven’t gotten there yet.
Newly acquired skill as of this morning that will be featured in at least two of the remaining gifts: the French knot. ✅
Hi Alyssa!
The Year of Asks is drawing to a close. I hope you have enjoyed it!
What’s something you have learned this year? (about yourself or anything else!)
What’s something you’re looking forward to in 2025?
Hi Kat!!
The Year of Asks has been an absolute pleasure, thanks to YOU! I can't tell you how excited I got every single time I saw a new question pop into my inbox. You did such a great job asking fun and interesting things that got people talking about the things they love. I hope it was as much fun for you as it was for me!
2024 was sort of a stagnant year for me in a lot of ways, but squeaking in riiiiiiiiiiight at the very end, I started learning embroidery, so I'm counting that as my new things that I learned this year. I'm focusing on embroidering on black and white photos right now and I love how the colors pop! I embroidered photos for my family for Christmas gifts this year (still working on the ones that will be given as Hannukah gifts to the other half of the family!) and I'm having fun trying out new stitches and techniques!
One thing I'm looking forward to in 2025 is hopefully finally getting back to traveling. We're definitely traveling in the Spring, but that is going to be for a wedding - which I'm super stoked about, but is also going to be a huge anxiety creating deal so it's kind of a double-edged thing - BUT we're hoping that this is the year we get to take a lil trip somewhere. Maybe even *gasp* sporadically. I'm also extremely hopeful that this might be the last year we have to live in our current apartment, so I'm looking forward to hopefully making moves towards getting tf out of here.
What about you?? Anything super exciting on the horizon or any new skills or thoughts to bring into the new year??

Happy Merlin anniversary to all who celebrate!
I started making this cushion cover 2 years ago, after a lot of not working on it, I finally finished it this afternoon.
'upastige draca' is the incantation Merlin uses to make a dragon for his Pendragon after revealing he's magic. I had briefly considered thank you or hold me but @mid-n0vember's suggestion was better.
#merlin#hand embroidery#twabbbiih made a thing#bbc merlin#excalibur#dragon#sword#hope the photos are ok i'm posting this on mobile with photos taken on my phone#arthur pendragon#merthur#merlin fandom#merlin fanart#merlin emrys#Merlin bbc#needlecraft#needlework#It's wonky but i embroider more than actually make things so it's unsurprising#I am so happy I finally completed this :')#I had only done one tiny embroidery thing for merlin before this which is ridiculous considering how important the show is to me#so it feels good to have something I worked hard on and love for this show now

Some yarn crafts I've been working on lately.
I added some stitching to a sweater with some multicolour earth-toned yarn. I think it works well with the embroidery I previously did on it.
I did some more yarn stitching onto a plain brown cardigan, I changed the buttons too. I tried out doing a couple spiral sun patterns on the pockets, I'll be adding more to the rest of the sweater as well.
I also did a bit of knitting. I had to refresh myself on the garter stitch, because it's been a while since I first tried it out, then I learned how to do the stockinette stitch for the first time! <|:) It's not perfect, but I don't need it to be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm just trying to enjoy making stuff.

Happy Solarpunk aesthetic week!
This semester I took a textile surface design class and this is the result (I may actually post more stuff from this class as the week goes on, teehee)! I mended a friend’s skirt with sashiko-inspired techniques and natural dye samples (mostly indigo). The sashiko meant that I could leave lots of raw edges that make the project look more organic. It’s a lovely skirt, and it’s so old that it has an Illinois garment union tag on it. Imagine buying a new garment from an American union. Imagine knowing your garment worker was well-paid and well-treated. That’s the dream.

Begin with a balbis on its side. Within the two spaces, a circle marked by a single dot.
Beneath this, a pair of concentric circles. Within the annulus, an ovoid with a slit - a staring eye.
Under that, a lemniscate over a heptagram, and three parallel lines beneath.
These are the marks of the Many Below.
The Silt Verses, Chapter 43

I'm working on a few more cross-stitch bookmark designs (with actual charts and tutorial this time) for Aro Week.
(And, yes, the orange is way too bright. One day I'll figure out the perfect colours for the sunset flag, I swear!)

Completed my latest embroidery project!
Was supposed to be done for Disability Pride Month, in July, but ironically health and chronic illness got in the way of that. But finally done now!
Was a post I saw uploaded on one of the different groups I follow for motivational posts about dealing with fibromyalgia. This one felt just too perfect, I just had to use it to make a pattern for an embroidery.
Pretty happy how it turned out. Sadly the choice of colour for the drop shadow of the letters might been too soft a tone to notice very well. But besides that, I think it turned out pretty good.
So do enjoy!

Finished the rainbow shorts!!!
#handmade#embroidery#rainbow embroidery shorts#for some reason like every pair of shorts I’ve bought in a lotta years#has unfinished hems? they are just kinda folded and not sewn#probably because denim is stretchy now and it’s harder to make the stitching on the hems without limiting the stretch#idk? but it makes it so easy to embroider!#also idk how to take a photo of these while wearing them#I feel like I should? they look better worn than they do flat#but idk how to do that in a way that’s not like ‘look at my legs’#which is a thing I tend to avoid especially online because I usually dislike comments on my legs#except the time my sister said my thighs look like she doesn’t want me to kick her#which was a weird but delightful compliment#got sidetracked. embroidery is done!!!
