Hey, PSA:
On your phone, go to Settings> Security and Privacy> Privacy> Other Privacy Settings> Ads> Delete Advertising ID
Then go back to Other Privacy Settings> Google location history> Turn off Location History &/or Turn-on Auto-Delete (you can set a time period of how long to keep it)
Then, staying on Other Privacy Settings, go to '+ See all activity controls'> Web & App activity> Turn off (you can also turn-on Auto-Delete for here too)
Then Scroll down to Personalized ads> My Ad Center> Turn Off Personalized Ads.
Google has no business knowing/storing everything you do online, and knowing/storing where you go everyday. Turn it off.
These instructions are for an Android phone, IOS might be different. If you have IOS or another operating system feel free to add on with your own map to where they've buried these settings in your phone to help others.

Here's my controversial opinion; if you're trying to write Bruce as a non-abusive, good parent, you should also write him respecting his kids' privacy, boundaries, and not stalking&surveying them.
#my dc posting#dc#batfamily#batman#bruce wayne#dick grayson#jason todd#tim drake#damian wayne#looking thru ur kids phone tracking them giving them no privacy etc etc is deeply damaging#but yall aint ready for the ''stalking is their love language' is super toxic' conversation </3#also can we retire the JL being completely chill about it. 'batman just knows things' not being bothered their secret identities were found#out etc can we. stop coddling the batfam#i just need someone anytime to please just call them out like 'hey dont fucking surveil me' like that is actually extremely unethical#and its frankly not hard to write a batman who doesnt invade his kids privacy n boundaries etc#controversially when reading fic where theyre supposed to be healthy n getting along i want to actually feel like its deserved n good for t#hem#instead of sitting there going 'woo thats toxic' 'oh that even worse' 'why are we passing over all that'. like i dont wanna be thinkin they#should go no-contact when its supposed to be fuffy n good :(#like if you can write away the hitting n other abuse why is this the one thing that just must always stay#like genuinely it aint hard to write a parent not stalking their children. actually maybe i should remind you all that stalking is not good#or funny#like i feel like w all the joking some of us are actually forgetting its not good. ever. like absolutely never dont stalk ppl#eh idk. this is why i cant stay in any one fandom too long bc i start developing Opinions which inevitably make me hostile to like#90% of the fandom's content 😔

So here is the long and short of it:
Google used (uses) geofencing data, location data that undeniably shows where you and your phone have been.
Google sells this data to data brokers and advertisers, whether you like it or not. And yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me if Apple also did/does this, but if they do, Tim Cook has done a yeoman’s job of keeping it secret.
Google also hands out your location data to police departments (and governmental agencies led by conservative, anti-abortion Republicans, but I’m sure that’s unimportant, right?).
Now—and here’s the crux of the matter—just as the government was using Google’s location data to prosecute January 6th rioters, Google has had a sudden change of heart and will effectively limit their ability to remotely store your GPS information on their servers (which means it will mostly only be available locally on your Android phone’s hard drive, thus making it significantly harder - not completely impossible - for Google to give the police access to bulk location data, even if presented with a search warrant).
Tumblr media
The bottom line is, it was always wrong for Google to collect and then sell their “reverse location search data” to advertisers, data miners, the police and the government. The germane question is, why now? Why has Google suddenly found Jesus, so to speak, and decided that customers privacy rights are sacrosanct, just as the U.S. government is using that data to prosecute Trump sycophants who wanted to overthrow the election?
SN: I think the whole green bubble vs. blue bubble argument is a stupid made up problem by whiny people who don’t have enough real problems in life (if you disagree then please go make your own post), and Idgaf if you’re an Android or an iPhone user. If you’re happy with your phone, that’s all that matters — but our privacy rights constantly being violated isn’t trivial, that’s actually very important. And Google suddenly deciding that now is the best time for them to end their practice of ratting people out seems highly sus.

Soooo instagram gave me a pop up this morning that since now the EU made it illegal to harvest personal data to sell to third party without the explicit user's consent, one can either tell them they can harvest and sell your personal data or pay a subscription to use their apps.
Tumblr media
Like this is not even about ads, they are still allowed to show ads to users. They just can't harvest and sell personal data without consent anymore, and are throwing a fuss about it

me: i hate cliches. theyre so predictable and overdone. i just want something new-
every fic ever: character A confidently/impulsively kisses character B who freezes under their touch causing character A to panic and begin to pull back just as character B remembers themself and kisses back with a passion
me, born to ascend, forced to act casual by societal norms:

I am constantly torn between sharing myself, my art, my thoughts on the internet and between going completely offline, dumb phone, no apps, hermit style.
i am craving the community of likeminded people that social media has started to offer me but with gigantic companies, ai, no privacy and also no chance to be discovered or actually connected it feels useless to try to share.
i wish the internet was different. i know there are good aspects about it but i think the whole industry is getting more flat and uninteresting because it becomes increasingly difficult to find real peole with stories and things that interest me.
and that whole crisis is besides what social media is doing to my brain. i have been online for over 13 years now, i have been using instagram for 8, tiktok for 3. and i can FEEL the difference every single of these social media apps has been having on my brain.
now i have been off social media for 3 weeks, except work related stuff i had to post/communicate the last two days. my brain has never felt happier (even though i had a little depresso episode) than while not being bombarded with content all the time. the last two days interacting online have been exhausting.
and not to say that i have been completely offline in these 3 weeks. as you can see i scream into the void on here and check my notifs for 15 minutes and reblog some stuff but then I GET OUTTA HERE and i love that. i have been watching youtube and it feels like all those years ago when i started watching videos on there: it feels new and like i actually benefit from what i am seeing. it doesn't send me into a spiral.
the problem with all of this is this: everyone is using xyz because everyone is using xyz. everyone is using whatsapp instead of more secure messaging apps because everyone ELSE is already using it. how can you stop being online if everyone else is always online? deleting instagram makes me lose contacts, snapchat that one friend...?
it's a dilemma that i feel like i cannot work throug atm. i am conflicted and feel like retreating from the world would benefit me while it also feels like an unhealthy response. what is your take on this?

suffocating
I’m doing the dishes again
Staring into the water
At that boy
How can I call myself a girl when the face that stares back
Is just another random boy
You’d see playing on a subrban corner
My name isn’t my name
People don’t call me by my name
I’ve been cut off
From everyone
If I died tonight
Nobody would notice
Just another kid
Just another teen suicide
It’s better than the alternative
To suffocate in this form
Would be preferable
To living in a world where nobody sees me
It’s better than the alternative

Honest question, why do yall care? I mean, if it’s real, good for them but like, this feels so gross. I’ve seen how fans treat them like characters, they deserve all the privacy they can get, relationship or not
