It's been weeks, and I'm still genuinely tweaking about that quote from Yoda: Dark Rendezvous, where Yoda tells Dooku that
"Yoda teaches like drunkards drink. Like killers kill."
Or something very like that, I didn't get the book to make it verbatim. But like. Damn. Like. DAMN!!! Not only is that so informative about Yoda's character, that's so fucking REAL.
I'm obsessed with this idea that people do things- good things, bad things, weird or neutral things- for the same reasons drunkards drink. Because they feel like they have to stay alive. Because they're addicted. Because the world is too much to face if they don't. Because it makes all the pain seem bearable.
Yoda teaches because he feels like he has to in order to continue facing the universe. He's addicted to being the teacher...

To the people who voted at this time, I ask but this simple question: “What does it mean to be a baker?” Is it simply the act of baking culinary goods in an oven, or is there something more?
What does it mean to bake? People in the more arid regions of the world often claim they bake in the sun’s heat, so one might surmise that it is not the product of baking that matters, but the process itself? Following this line of logic, both a tool smith and an alchemist may be considered bakers.
Woodsmen, too, could be considered bakers, as part of the baking process is to prepare ingredients, and we ‘bake’ the wood to heat our homes and fuel our ovens.
Even philosophers such as myself could be considered bakers, as we prepare the ingredients called information, combine them into a fine dough called thoughts, then letting those thoughts bake in our minds, then when finished, we deliver the finished product in the form of knowledge.
#philosophy#philosophical bullshit#baking#okay but seriously#think about it#everyone is actually a baker to some extant

Sitting cross legged on a bench @ my college...jus livin life...playin a word search app ive used to replace the space my discord was on my phone,, i think this is peak. Socializing is cool but . Maybe its cooler to take breaks between friends so that u can have super cool fun when the time is right,,,do u get what i mean. Either way sometimes life and u and life and u are all u need. Friends are awesome and so are games and everything all in moderation, its easier on paper but i dont think ive ever felt it so literally aside from now. Makes u realize how much u rly aint experiencing when ure still doing the same thing u used to, u jus gotta change it up bro

There's this way of doing female-ness in Christianity that I call "pastel flower journal Christianity." I've got nothing against pastel flower journals per se, but for some reason people believe it's the end all and be all of female spirituality, and I think it's a real disservice towards young Christian women.
One of these days I'd like to start a prayer-and-reading group or something for young women, but there would be no floral themes or over-focus on how "God thinks you're beautiful even if the world doesn't" (a true statement, but it's wayyyyy too often the focus in women's spiritual reading). Instead we would be reading:
Seneca's Letters from a Stoic
Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning
Sheed's A Map of Life
Portions of Pieper's book on leisure
Kreeft's Three Philosophies of Life
Guardini's The Lord (or something similar)
Therese's Story of a Soul
and some select portions of the Nicomachean Ethics.
(Also they're all getting the porn talk. I don't know why we give the porn talk to young men but not young women. There's this idea that women don't use porn and they only need the talk about "guarding their heart." Bullshit. There's porn on the YA shelves of Barnes and Nobles and before that there were bodice rippers. Young women need the porn talk too.)
Every young woman needs to be getting a basic grounding in virtue ethics, logic, natural law, scholastic philosophy and Biblical hermeneutics if they're going to get by in today's spiritual landscape. Enough faffery and emotionalism in young women's spiritual education! Give them real food to chew on, not pasty sentimentalism!
#Christian femininity#Christian women#Christian#Christianity#Catholicism#Catholic women#Catholic femininity#Catholic feminism#Catholic#I'm sure there should be something by Stein on this list but I haven't read her stuff yet#Anyway if I could shove one book into the hands of every young woman on this site#it would be either Letters from a Stoic or Man's Search for Meaning.#I think a lot of women on this site could benefit from those two books alone.#Much of the way we treat women's sense of spirituality and ethics is trusting them to just blindly feel their way to the right answer#While we give young men clear-cut instructions and reasoning.#It's bullshit. And it's actively harmful. I would never say feelings are useless#but without a well-formed intellect and conscience they're just not going to carry you as far as you need to go on their own.#I had the value of a good moral and philosophical education because of where I went to school—same as the boys in my class.#And it's spared me so much grief. People put the tools in my hands to make smart decisions and empowered me to seek the good.#All young women deserve the same.

"I am nothing but a granule in the ever changing sands of time. The particles that bind together to create my physical form are barrowed. Once I've had my use of them, they will find their way to another soul - I can only pray that soul harbors more patience than I when listening to you speak... "

I was recommended As Above So Below because it's apparently a fun creepy horror movie set in an original location (Paris catacombs) but I didn't know that it's not a movie for a history buff. I'm 10 min in and so far I've mainly been laughing and saying: "What?" through an awkward smile a lot
#Nicholas Flamel physically made his own tombstone???#Like literally carved the fucking thing#Girl what???#'he was widely known as an alchemist who managed to create the philosophy stone'#Yeah in like renaissance times when the whole philosophers stone bullshit really picked up#This movie is so unseriouz#Girl how did a french guy from the xvth century paris used sumerian code key written on an ancient statue in some cave in iran to make what

can i be honest i never thought the ending scene of monster was supposed to be tenma hallucinating. i thought it was diegetic
#i guess there's no reason it CAN'T be tenma hallucinating. but also they've never been shown to do that before#and the story talks abt hallucination/flashback sequences in such a specific way that this really doesn't read to me as one#though i won't say the scene is not allegorical/symbolic bc it obviously is. i just kind of feel like calling that scene specifically#a hallucination kinda strips it of its impact somewhat for me#it would in fact be entirely in character for johan not only to pull some bullshit like that but also speak to tenma's deepest fears in tha#moment. because he's been doing that for the whole goddamn series#i dont think he needs to know the particulars of tenma's childhood and the trauma of theirs he has not witnessed directly#to get at what eats away at them in their soul. they are philosophically both diametric opposites and two sides of the same coin#of course he can and would do that#monster#personal

i love how shinya in the novels takes the role of a wise old man teaching the mc everything he knows, because most lessons guren is taught in catastrophe, shinya has already learned.
... except he isn't an old man, he's a child.
but he did get the white hair.
#shinya: [drops the most vile philosophical bullshit you've ever heard in a random sentence]#guren: what#shinya: nothing :D#owari no seraph#seraph of the end#shinya hiiragi#guren ichinose#i identify as a wise old man#shinya‚ stroking his imaginary beard: warm dough with yeast is just play-doh that loves you

What does being a woman mean to you Jude?
WOW this is a huge and maybe philosophical question
I don’t think breasts, vaginas or children make a woman. I believe it’s something more ephemeral. Something within us, something we’re born with us that allows us every where in the world feel a kinship towards one another, a deep understanding no matter our circumstances, beliefs, orientation and race. It is funnelled through the world we live in that’s against us.
I think that’s why men believe there is some hidden mystery to us, because they don’t understand it, it’s like a unspoken language they were never taught. I guess that’s what I believe being a woman is.

Sleepless in New York at 6am, the neighborhood breakfast attempts to express a coherent thought about an incoherent nag of his past ten years
#Toast Talks#Writer Stuff#Death of the Author#I'm too sleep deprived to be certain but right now this feels like it makes sense#This is the sort of thing I'm talking about to when I say “It's okay to be wrong” about random shit because in some instances it is#Because being right literally doesn't matter all of the time. Or even a lot of the time#Meaning derived from fiction is a perfect example of that#Right and wrong interpretations technically exist just as the answer to the question “is color real” technically has a definitive answer#But the point is that it doesn't actually matter one way or another#So to assert validity on either side is a losing game because you're both equally right and equally wrong#The author's interpretation is the only one that's technically correct but that doesn't make yours incorrect#Because it's not the point and you're missing the forest for the trees overthinking the situation and focusing solely on irrelevant nonsens#Just like a philosopher#The author isn't dead they just don't care and didn't ask what your interpretation is#All they really want to know is how it changed or moved you#Anything more is self-aggrandizing bullshit at best - regardless who is arguing the validity of which
