Is there a moment in mind that made Shinya become a favourite character for you? I think mine was most likely his (first) prison scene when he’s talking to Aoi, it was cool to see his mask breaking a bit there.

And this might seem like a broad question lmao but: Why do you like him?

i can't say exactly, since it's been a while, but i think what ultimately made me switch from mika to him was, unsurprisingly, chapter 83. it showed a depth to his character that i hadn't really seen before. i love me a tragic gay fucking yearner i do

generally, i have a habit of getting attached to characters that are kind of mysterious, that have you waiting for their hidden potential to be revealed (the 11 year old in me is still waiting for Jellal Fernandes to be exposed as some kind of stellar god with a godly birthmark. fuuuck). and although i've given up on shinya having another bigger role in the story by now, his whole dead-inside-and-wise-personality-hidden-behind-a-silly-gazilly-clown-mask is still incredibly endearing to me. especially because characters that hide their feelings like this are usually that dark and broody "leave me alone... my soul holds a darkness the likes of you would never understand..." type, which i find absolutely insufferable. with shinya you get the best of both worlds! he's incredibly depressing if you get into it but still fun to watch.

but also, i just love weirdos and outsiders. i love the white and blue colour scheme. i love the night/moon connotations i love byakko i love his development in catastrophe i love characters that use long range weapons instead of melee i love characters that are intelligent and level-headed i love characters that prefer to use trickery over brute force i love pitiful doormats that get stomped all over i love characters that die with a smile i love elegant pretty guys with long eyelashes i love queercoded characters that have a bit of a madness to them i- cough.
