Yuri!!! on Ice post-canon headcanons - Part 1

-Yuuri becomes the first skater to ratify the quad flip in-combination, with a triple toe-loop. When he lands the combo at the 2018 Winter Olympics, it predictably breaks the internet and becomes known as the Katsuki Combo. Phichit becomes the second person to cleanly land it

-Minako bartends at the Viktuuri wedding reception in Hasetsu, and is single-handedly responsible for getting everyone trashed on their 'Stammi Vicino' signature cocktail. Things get pretty risque towards the end of the night when the new grooms begin to make exceedingly over-the-top declarations of love for one another. Neither Hiroko nor Toshiya bat an eye at any of this

-The first 'Viktor and Friends' ice show -- even with the Chihoko drama -- was such an incredible success that the Katsuki-Nikiforovs make it an annual excuse for all of their friends to get together in the off-season. The Hasetsu City Council becomes so fearful over liability issues when they notice how many tourists try to scale Hasetsu Castle to get pics in 'Shining Chihoko' pose, that they permanently install guardrails on the top of the Castle

-Viktor begins learning how to pole-dance under Yuuri's instruction. It's a 50-50 in terms of whether their lessons are actually productive versus them just ending up having sex, lol. B/c they are the most extra ppl imaginable, they work with Christophe to come up with a routine to perform at the 2022 Beijing Games banquet. This is their "last hurrah" in terms of banquet shenanigans, as the 2022 Olympics marks Yuuri's last competition before retiring

-Mila and Sara begin dating during the 2019 off-season, and Sara eventually moves to St. Petersburg so they can live together. Mila has Viktor choreograph a gala skate proposal routine, and when she performs it for Sara, everyone thinks it's amazing/adorable that she caps it off with her new fiance's damnably difficult signature jump combo (the triple lutz-triple loop)

-After a few years in St. Petersburg, Viktor and Yuuri move permanently to Fukuoka, Japan, where they coach/train at the same rink as Kenjirou (who never quite gets over his Yuuri hero worship, but does learn to tone it down...somehow). The move to Japan allows the Katsuki-Nikiforovs to begin working with the Nishigoris on long-term plans to expand Ice Castle Hasetsu into a top-tier training center

-Once Yakov retires, Yurio "follows" Viktor/Yuuri to Fukuoka and becomes Viktor's second student. This "works" in some respects, and is a disaster in others. With his ample free time upon retirement, Yakov attempts to repair things with Lilia

If any of the above headcanons sound interesting to you, you might be interested in my 2018/2022 Olympic Games fic series, which is currently comprised of 7 different parts! When I first began posting part 1 (currently at 212K words and counting) last November, I didn't do a great job of promoting it. So, as it (and the overall series) gets closer to completion, I'm striving to do better around that!

I originally set out to write an in-depth, post-canon series for two main reasons:

1) I find the politics of competitive sport really interesting and, obviously, canon Yuri!!! on Ice doesn't really touch on this in just 12 episodes. But politics/bureaucracy truly do weave into just about every aspect of an athlete's career, and particularly with such a talented/prominent Japanese skater moving to St. Petersburg to live and train alongside the sport's "Living Legend", I found myself ideating around what the implications of that would mean in-universe, particularly for the Winter Olympics

and 2) I wanted to see more of the "give and take" that we know to be true of Viktor and Yuuri's relationship. Naturally, as Viktor grows into his role as Yuuri's coach in canon, the narrative is largely about how he supports Yuuri, and I wanted to be able to explore more of the opposite (Yuuri learning to support Viktor in a more overt way than is implied).

Part 1 of the series is centered around the 2022 Olympic Games, but jumps back and forth in time so that you are able to get glimpses of how their relationship has evolved from their earlier days, as well as to see the ripple effect of a big event that took place at the PyeongChang Games.

Ito: Speaking about Yuuri, one person from Production Advancement team was a huge fan of him and was putting in a lot of effort to make Yuuri's scenes look good, by circulating those scenes among animators.

Shishido: Yeah, without consulting anyone, right?

Abiko: That's why those scenes looked better and better with each episode.

Tatenaka: So persistent. The same thing happened in case of Phichit's second FS - they brought those scenes to me, saying: 'Tatenaka-san, I want this to look a bit better, so could you please correct it?'

Abiko: Yeah, you can really feel the strong affection they have for those characters.

Shishido: The young production staff members did a very good job.

Hiramatsu: What's really amazing is that for me, someone with 30 years of experience in the industry, this job was the toughest I've ever experienced, but the new recruits all did their job and nobody run away. I haven't known them before, so maybe they were just very capable people, but probably that's not the only factor.

Tatenaka: Yeah, in terms of how tough it was, it was a one huge step ahead of every other job that I had.

Ito: Yeah, it really was.

On the tracks of Yuri On Ice in Barcelona - Day 4 Part 1

We have already seen so many iconic places, touring the city to chase down locations and encountering so many interesting landmarks and funny momenta along the way...

Two very big locations were missing, though, and that was our goal for today : Sagrada Familia and Park Güell!

First step, the forever in construction expensive church:

First order of business was of course to find the Phichit Selfie Angle™️...

We were basically lying on the floor 😭

What we do for the love on Yuri on Ice...

Obviously once the right angle was found, we had to milk it! Selfie recreation time! (without a selfie stick, which adds to the challenge). One of us had to basically squat on the floor to get the other. We were fueled by live and selfie frenzy, Phichit's spirit had seized us!

Okay, yes, my hand should be the other way around and @tony-dreams just nailed it, but he suffers for the pictures, he deserves it.

See the process is this: Tony does some weird yoga shit to find the good angle with his phone - or his eyes, they work too- , then holds the picture while I shove my camera right in front of his face in a tourist version of Twister to get the picture. Took us a couple of tries throughout our stay to come up with this method, but it has been tried and validated!

We then asked a fellow tourist to take our picture to commemorate our visit here:

After such a grandiose visit, we had a couple hours of rest before going to the very last spot of this whole tour... Park Güell!

I'm 90% sure I got this rec from here but the 10% is there cause I can't find it. Viktor put his number in Yuuri's phone after the banquet but Yuuri doesn't believe it's really him so he theorizes it's another Russian skater on Viktor's team. I need to say that Pichit is one of my favorite YOI characters, and I LOVED the way you developed his and Yuuri's friendship in NLA, I really enjoyed the part where Pichit practically hunted yuuri and got a little stalker because for him was DESTINED to be his best friend hahaha, I loved it! I laughed a lot and it was very sweet, whenever I hear songs about friendship I think of yuuri next to pichit's bed in the hospital or just always by his side because "pichit doesn't care about yuuri's scores, he loves him for being JUST YUURI, and that's perfect" I felt it and it was very amazing and smart that you thought of developing it like this, thanks for doing it.

I have a lot of questions about parts that were not seen, and that I have not seen that you have done one-shots; ;, for example when pichit supports Yuuri when candace made rumors about him, just because yuuri didn't reciprocate her feelings

Shishido: Georgi does not have any ill intentions whatsoever. But he gets on everyone's nerves - he's just this type of a lovable character (laugh). Victor was also annoyed by him, but I think that he's simply a type of person that Victor dislikes [Victor's heterophobia confirmed... 😡]. And, my personal favorites are the Three Skating Otaku Sisters. They are so cute, and I wanted them to have more screentime, but after the action of the story moved abroad, it couldn't be helped that the number of occasions to see them decreased. I wanted to watch more of them being so active and cheerful!

-- How beautiful the music for this show is was also a popular topic of discussions. Could you please tell us which song is your favorite?

Shishido: All are amazing, so it's hard for me to pick one, but I think it would be 'Yuri on ICE'? And Otabek's both programs, short and free, have very cool music - these are my favorites, too. Music memorable to me, because of the skating is Phichit's 'The King and The Skater'. His choreography, which is heavily inspired by Thai culture is so amazing. In case of Popovich, it's not so much about his programs, because I can't watch them without laughing - the cringy flashback scenes are just too funny.

-- It's his art of making funny faces, isn't?

Shishido: Jumping with tears in his eyes etc. But he's very serious about it. It's only that his aesthetic sense slightly differs from everybody else's.

Yuuri is mainly a console player and enjoys a wide range of game genres including action/adventure, survival horror, platformers, and walking simulators.  He prefers JRPGs over WRPGs, not only because of the comfort of familiar cultural tropes, but also because he finds in-depth stat micromanagement to be stressful.  When he does play Mass Effect or Dark Souls he winds up finding and following a level-up guide for his chosen role so that he doesn’t have to worry about it and can just enjoy the game mechanics and story.  Multiplayer games are where he really shines, though; he both loves and is jaw-droppingly good at them.  Yuuri rarely speaks over chat, and as a result strangers tend to assume that he’s a woman.  He never corrects them, and every time he gets a “fat/ugly/slutty” PM from a dudebro that he’s humiliated it’s like he’s been awarded a gold medal in video games (and then he reports them).  Yurio gets really pissed off on Yuuri’s behalf when he sees that behavior at first, but it’s not long before he’s in on the joke and egging the dudebros on to make them more complacent and easier to take out.  Even without taking advantage of assholes and their assumptions, Yuuri and Yurio are an unstoppable force when they’re on the same team, and there are all kinds of wild conspiracy theories and speculation on gaming forums wondering why they’ve never pursued professional e-sports.  Yuuri plays both cooperatively and competitively with Phichit, although they tend to gravitate toward more lighthearted fare like Splatoon so that it’s more fun for both of them. Victor flat-out refuses to compete against Yuuri because he won’t go easy on him.  Yuuri’s current favorite games are Overwatch, Final Fantasy XV, and Breath of the Wild, the latter of which he finds soothing (and likes to play while curled up in Victor’s lap).

Victor:

Victor likes games, and he can complete most single-player AAA titles on Normal difficulty, but he’ll never be on the level of Yuuri and Yurio and that irks him to no end.  He’s also more of a PC gamer, because his parents never allowed him to own any consoles (games were frivolous and might distract him from skating) but he needed a computer for school (his games collection was hidden more carefully than his porn was).  He prefers story-driven games, particularly if there is a romance, though the contrived press-X-to-sexytimes-if-enough-friendship-points interactions make him vaguely uncomfortable.  His favorite genres are strategy and simulations, mostly because he can pick them up and drop them whenever and doesn’t have to remember controls after being too busy to play for long stretches of time during the competition season.  He’s also recently discovered dating sims, to the horror of literally everyone after he spent a month and a half rhapsodizing about Hatoful Boyfriend and making bird puns.  His current favorite games are Sims 3 (do not get him started on why Sims 4 sucks – actually, best not to bring up Sims at all unless you really want to hear about ten generations of custom-profession skating sims descended from himself and Yuuri thanks to an mpreg mod), Rimworld, Civilization VI, and Long Live the Queen.

Yuri:

Yurio plays shooters. Shooters, and hack-and-slashers, and exploders, and other super badass hardcore games.  As mentioned above, he excels at competitive multiplayer, and Yuuri is his favorite partner. His Steam library is extensive thanks to sales and Humble Bundles, which is the sole reason why he has certain titles in his library.  He certainly didn’t go out of his way to buy To the Moon, nor does he play it at least once a year, and anyone who would dare to suggest that he might have shed actual tears over it is getting his stupid lying ass kicked, katsudon.  Gone Home and Brothers were also totally acquired as part of bundles.  Yurio’s current favorite games (that he’ll admit to) are Hitman, Battlefield 1, Overwatch, and Neko Atsume because fuck you it’s awesome that’s why.

Phichit:

Phichit plays a ton on mobile, naturally, but he’s also the group’s resident Nintendo fanboy. There’s a running bet among his Bangkok rinkmates about exactly how long it’ll take for him to drop his new Switch on the ice and break it (Yuuri just shakes his head at them; in all the years he’s known Phichit, his best friend has never once dropped a piece of technology). In addition to the usual first-party Nintendo classics (Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Pokémon, Splatoon, etc.), he tends to gravitate toward the colorful and the cheerful, eschewing beige shooters or anything grimdark.  He’s an unabashed Kingdom Hearts fan and will happily discuss the ins and outs of the nonsensical plotlines until everyone’s eyes glaze over.  His current favorite games are Breath of the Wild, Dragon Quest Builders, anything Katamari Damacy-related, and, oddly enough, Nethack (in which he is currently working to ascend his eighth class!).

I got so hooked up with your snippet from Settling for Gold, sounds so interesting and a wonderful recipe for angst, so I wanted to ask the time settings. Like, what age do they have? I assume the Sochi banquet didn’t happened because Viktor thinks “Japanese boy”, but did Yuuri still had (or has) a crush on Viktor in this universe? And do you already have an idea of how Yuuri and Chris became a thing or is that more of a behind-the-scenes thing?

That were a lot of questions, sorry. Also, if you have another snipped you would like to share from SfG, I am here for it.

Settling for Gold takes place during the Sochi Olympics. :D So Viktor is 25, Chris turns 23 right in the middle of the Olympics, and Yuuri is 21.

Yuuri and Chris is a behind-the-scenes thing, but basically started as a one off friends with benefits hook-up, but come morning Chris was very "would like to sleep with again" and they already were friends, so he told Yuuri they should just date. And it didn't take long for Chris to really become smitten.

Because Yuuri = 💜💜💜

As for Yuuri's feeling toward Viktor in this universe... they're complicated. He definitely had a crush, probably still has a bit of a crush, but he's with Chris, and he likes Chris and Chris likes him. And it's easy to chalk up any interest Viktor shows in him to just wanting to get to know Chris's boyfriend.

“Hi! I’m Phichit Chulanont!” The young Thai man held out his hand and Viktor shook it.

“Nice to meet you. I’m--”

“Viktor Nikiforov! I know. Everyone knows.” Phichit grinned at him. “You’re also the other best friend.” His gaze flicked over to where Katsuki was apparently trying to teach Chris how to play some video game on one of the systems, but Chris’s hand kept wandering down to grab Katsuki’s ass which led to a hissed “Chris” before the Swiss skater apologized without meaning a single word before sliding his hand back up to Katsuki’s waist.  “Chris is either going to piss him off for not taking the game seriously or they’re going to leave before dinner. Any bets on which one it’ll be?” Phichit asked.

“Oh. Um…” Viktor had no clue. “Does Katsuki like video games that much?”

Phichit just blinked at him. “You can probably just call him Yuuri. I think he’d be a little weirded out to know that Chris’s best friend is still calling him Katsuki.”

For some reason, Viktor hadn’t realised that he was Chris’s best friend. Chris really was Viktor’s only friend even if he wasn’t just discussing friendships among skaters, so Viktor had never had to categorize Chris into a stronger category than just friend. It was startling. “Ah. Right,” is all Viktor said, however.

“And yeah, Yuuri likes video games. And he’s good at them. And scarily competitive at them. But then that’s true for everything regarding Yuuri.” Phichit was fiddling with his phone. “Hey, think I can get a selfie with you for instagram? It’s cool if you don’t want to, but I love the platform--”

“I do too. And sure! Let’s take a commemorative photo.”

So they did and looked at the picture. In the background Chris’s hand was clearly visible on Yuuri’s ass again, though Viktor didn’t remember hearing the hissed “Chris!” from the Japanese skater in the last few minutes.

“Um. Perhaps we should try a different angle?” Viktor suggested.

“Yeah. I think Yuuri would kill me if Chris groping him made it onto the internet. I mean he likes it,” Phichit wiggled his eyebrows, “Chris’s groping, I mean, but he’s kinda private and wouldn’t want it on my instagram.”

Phichit and Viktor walked around the lounge taking various selfies and discussing the finer points of the various filters for a good fifteen minutes before finally selecting a nice shot of the two of them, no groping couple in the background at all and posted it to their instagrams and tagging each other which Phichit said was amazing “because now I’m like on your instagram! So like there’s proof that I met you! And OMG, Leo is going to die! I bet Seung Gil will too, but he’ll be all stoic about it because like reasons. But sweet!”

And then they looked around for their friends.

Phichit shook his head. “They’re going to leave before dinner.” 

Viktor swallowed thickly, slightly uncomfortable. Yuuri had Chris pushed up against the wall next to the video game system they’d been playing on and was kissing him hard, fist gripping the front of Chris’s jacket, pulling his head down to Yuuri’s height and Viktor could make out the blush that covered Chris’s cheeks and was going down the back of Chris’s neck.

Viktor didn’t think that he’d ever seen Chris blush that much before.
