Hoverflies – Why Are They Important to Your Garden?

Hoverflies (Syrphid Flies) are a crucial part of any garden. Hoverflies look like bees or wasps, and they hover in the air, darting back and forth before hovering again. They feed on nectar as adults and soft-bodied insects such as aphids, thrips, scale insects, and caterpillars when they’re larvae. These are some of the few beneficial insects that you will regularly see in your garden. They help control pests while pollinating flowers at the same time!

I have a lot of people ask me why I have chosen to only eat organic. There are a number of reasons but my usual response tends to be "for taste, and to know what I am putting into my body". By then I get the confused face, which means I need to elaborate. I choose to eat pesticide free and foods which are not genetically modified because the amount of inflammation and stress they put on the gut and digestive system. I mean pesticides kill insects imagine what it can do to your vital organs, and look at how the people spraying need toxic protective clothing! Side note: your weekly market vegetables fall under this category as they sell their produce to the supermarkets. So your intentions of eating healthy foods is good but in reality the chemicals used are doing more harm than good.
