Webcomic Recommendation: "Azúcar Amargo"
Azúcar Amargo by huainos The webcomic community includes marvelous artwork, diverse perspectives, and spectacular storytelling. Some webcomics, however, slip through the cracks regardless of whether they’re complete. I’ve reviewed plenty of unfinished webcomics worth checking out because those stories deserve to emerge out of the dark, dusty corners of the Internet. Azúcar Amargo* by huainos – a…

novito it really is. That Bad. like the city is named terremoto 😭😭😭 hablando más en serio realmente está sumamente encausada en estereotipos but it doesn't really work because it uses ALL latinoamerican cultures; pretending latam is just A Conglomerate of One culture is harmful for the representation of the community, and it does not only missrepresent but reproduce annoying stereotypes. the problem is honestly a lack of self awareness and the reiteration of latam as Just One Culture instead of a sea of very unique and interesting cultures. it's really annoying that with the resources and posibilities disney has, theyve settled for such a missrepresentative and honestly lazy product <- opinion as latino from there yknow . like i dont doubt some of the Magnitude of the response from twitter is from itbeign twitter but it Is really bad . Also sowrry for the bible and feel free to not respond or post LMAO
thank you for your perspective nunkito. OH fuck i forgot about the terremoto thing yeah that's bad. i do agree with the conglomeration thing FOR SURE thats what always annoys me about latino rep in general. i also forgot to mention that people compared this concept to the casagrandes/loud house which, to be fair, that show doesn't have a monopoly on large families but in general i understand that people are tired of seeing similar stories like that where latino = huge family and want more diversity in represented latino families to AVOID those stereotypes. it definitely presents a specific idea of what we are to non-latino people which really sucks if you dont fit into that from all angles. the lack of cultural specificity is always an issue with these projects and in the us i still think the common generalization is latino = mexican which is telling and why we NEED those cultural distinctions i do agree.
the product itself im not super offended by but the greater process behind it is a huge issue i wish the social media outrage articulated more because on its own it just looks like a hate mob. but nuance doesnt exist and neither does tone on the internet :/ which sucks.
also the fact that there doesnt seem to be many latino voices BEHIND the project to LEND that specificity and cultural awareness for a specific nationality/culture to be represented is really unfortunate and that's what a lot of people were at least implying too. im a bit on the fence because on one hand why are we trusting DISNEY with presenting accurate rep but at the same time they gave incredible projects like encanto coco and the owl house so how do we make sure we get people who know wtf theyre talking about to lead and produce these projects and infiltrate the anglo ass system. its just............. rghghghghghhhhh. its not like im completely ecstatic that it exists but im also more miffed that the energy is going so strongly to this over literally anything else going on affecting us. maybe thats also algorithmic bias bringing that outrage to me though.. life is hell.
#at the same time... representations affect the way people see us affect the way we're treated in society and legislation against us and rep#BACK AGAIN... fuck my life. 🤦 im glad you brought this up because i didnt think about this aspect until now. got me thinking#about dora too tho how most people didnt even know she was peruvian bc the creators wanted all latino kids to see themselves in her but as#result her default nationality is mexican for a lot of US-ians. double edged sword :/ we are a deeply uneducated country. send help#🌟.txt#this is the bible part 2 🤦 sorry#ask.txt

I NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT SASHA/DREW THEY ARE SO SILLY
OHOHO, YOU HAVE COMMITTED A TERRIBLE MISTAKE
When Horror and Dust had Drew, they actually didn't know how to name him. They were this close )( of naming them "Mistake" (because they had an instant regret of being parents once the child was actually there), but then Cross was like "DO NOT NAME YOUR FUCKING CHILD MISTAKE", so he was the one that gave Drew her name
Her name "Sasha" is a chosen name, and she stole it from Sasha Waybright from Amphibia because he is a huge kinnie of her. Also related to this, they canonically have Sasha (from Amphibia) set as their pfp on his private account on whatever the Undertale equivalent of Twitter is
If you've seen my art about horrordust, you'de know me and Xomma agree that they are so fucking toxic and, although they truly love their kid and treat him as such, their relationship with each other affects Sasha in a way they had not expected. Because of their awful relationship, Drew is afraid of falling in love, because he thinks he would end up like their parents; always fighting, arguing, telling each otehr "I hate you" as much as they say "I love you", etc. Because of this fear, she has cut off her friendship with a bunch of people, realising that he was starting to develope romantic feelings for them. Most of the times they did it unconsiously
He does love his parents though, a lot, they mean everything to her, and he know that they love them too, never even doubted it, but she is fully aware that things would be way better if they divorced and were away from each other
When someone asks Drew about how their parents are, he replies with something along the lines of "They aren't the best parents out there, but they try really hard to be good parents, so I guess that makes them just enough"
When Sasha was a kid (about 6-10 if I remember correctly) he gifted her parents one of those "world's best dad" mugs, but she crossed out the "world's best" and replaced it with "Decent". Horror found it hilarous and immediately became his favourite cup. Years later when Drew came out of the closet, their parents gifted her a cup that said "I came out to my parents and all I got was this mug"
HE HAS A GIANT HAMMER COLLECTION. Some hammers she buys, others are gifts, and others they make them themselves, often based on AUs she visits from time to time (Example: they have this Outertale themed hammer with stars and all that shit)
Originally when we had just created Drew, Xomma and I had agreed that he would be besties with Paper Jam and be in a queer platonic relationship with him and Lux. That was until we found out that canon Paper Jam is currently a grown adult. Idea was immediately discarded because, YOU KNOW, THAT'S A CHILD AND A GROWN ASS MAN. After that we started checking the characters ages before deciding if they'd be friends with the kid so that we don't go through all this again
Drew's best friends are Lux and Shino (one of the hundreds of afterdeath kids out there), but of course they have many other friends. Just like a good anime protagonist, he would force friendship into every single person she comes across
He knows SO MANY LANGUAGES Like, you know how people headcanon characters to speak the same language as the creator? Well, WE DID A SLIGHT MISCALCULATION They of course speak English, she also speaks Spanish, a mix of an Argentinian, Peruvian and Venezuelan accent (I'm Argentinian and Xomma is Venezuelan and lives in Peru, so the accent kinda sticks). And you'd think that'd be it, right? WRONG We both know a bit of Portuguese (me more than Xomma), and I know a little bit of Italian, and Xomma suddendly surprised me telling me that they also know a bit of GERMAN AND FRENCH Which means Drew speaks fluent English and Spanish (With an amalgame of accents), can hold a simple conversation in Portuguese, and can throw at you some random words and phrases in Italian, German and French, JESUS CHRIST I SAY If you ask where did he learn all those languages from, let's just say random people on the omega timeline taught her. "Where did you learn Portuguese" "Fabiola from the Omega Timeline taught me" who is Fabiola? WHO KNOWS!
She is a menace to society
Her place in the school hierarchy is difficult to point. They are a bit of a weird kid, so he sometimes gets bullied by other kids, but as I mentioned, he's also a menace, so there are a lot of kids that also fear them for how feral they are. Though she does have a fair amount of friends and from different years and ages, so he's also kinda cool with a bunch of people (???
Master of blackmail
When he's a grown teenager's a bit older (about 16-18 I'd say), she starts taking little "jobs" some people give them in exchange for some money. At first they have to do pretty normal stuff; help someone with some boxes, look after a kid for a few hours, deliver something to someone, etc. But as time passes some of this requests start getting darker and darker, to the point where it's nore rare for him to be asked to beat up someone (they always ask why they are requesting said stuff, and will only agree to the job if she thinks the person deserves the punishment)
He is a sugar addict. As a kid she would often still candy from people on the Omega Timeline. Horror and Dust had to explain to her that he couldn't keep doing that or else they would end up being kicked out from there, aka, kicked out of one of the few places where they would let in the child of two serial murderers. She stopped doing so after that, and instead now they carry a bag of candy with them everywhere he goes
His favourite pastry are cinnamon rolls
She knows how to cook (Horror taught him), but choses to be attrocious at the kitchen
As I mentioned before, one of Drew's best friend's is Lux. And if you've seen my art of them, YOU'D KNOW THEY ARE A BIT MORE THAN JSUT BESTIES. At first they really are just friends, but as they grow older and their friendship becomes deeper they start falling in love with each other. Lux is well aware of both her own feelings, and Sasha's feelings (comes with being daughter of the guardian of positivity I guess), but chooses not to do anything about those feelings because she knows about Drew's fear of love, and doesn't want to push him into something he's not ready for, so she is happy to wait for as long as she has to. Meanwhile Drew, while he was the first to fall, takes the longest to realis about her feelings and do something about them. It takes them SO MANY FUCKING YEARS for him to do something about it, to the point where they finally get into a relationship when they are in their early twenties. Before that it was all gay tension and Sasha convincing himself that all the stuff they do with Lux is "Perfectly normal friend things to do" and there is nothing more to it (They were not, in fact, "Perfectly normal friend things to do", and there was actually so much more to it)
Since I'm talking about this two I might as well jsut dropped this chart we did the other day about them
If you want the original chart, sorry, I lost it :(
AND I'LL SHUT UP NOW BECAUSE I'VE BEEN WRITING FOR LIKE AN HOUR AND A HALF
ME AND XOMMA LITERALLY HAVE A GOOGLE DOCUMENT TALKING ABOUT THEM THAT IS OVER 100 PAGES LONG, AND IT'S STILL GROWING, SO YOU CAN GUESS HOW MUCH I CAN SAY ABOUT THEM
Might add some more stuff later though, I told Xomma about this ask I got and I'm waiting for them to reply to see if he wants to add anthing else
Edit: forgot to say that me and Xomma are working on a playlist about Drew, so if you want to hear it and try to like, analyse or something, here you have it

i'd love to hear those drake headcanons of yours :^)!
alright anon i warned you
quick warning for obsessive love and idk bro toxic angst i guess
also another warning i’m projecting a lot, specifically onto drew.
i’m a strong believer of drew being one of those gay people that just really represses their sexuality to the point of just not realizing for a while. he eventually figures out his gender but he doesn’t really talk about it much and cringes when he thinks about it too much. he’s a transfem agender, no big deal.
i know a lot of people hc drew as hispanic and that makes me very happy. you wanna know why i made him peruvian though, i’ll tell you why, i’m projecting, suck it nerd.
drew began being friends with jake during freshman year, in my head i feel like part of it was out of pity, drew didn’t think too much of jake at the time, just a new cool guy to hang out with.
idk how canon this is but in my interpretation the two of them the two of them got close to the point of being best friends, the two of them just jived together so well, he felt so understood, jake was an amazing guy, he was so fun to hang out with. it felt like things were perfect. however we know it wasn’t always great for the opposite party.
i’m a firm believer of neurodivergent jake, i don’t know what he has exactly but he’s def peculiar LMAO.
because of this, he’s always struggled socially and generally just being able to be his true self, of course he has a passion for singing and music and i wouldn’t be surprised if his neurodivergence impacted that at all.
think about it though, you’ve been bullied and outcasted your whole life, and all of the sudden a group of cool dudes want to take you in just because you seem cool to them?
jake finally felt a sense of belonging, right?
except those people were also judgmental to an extent, they put other people down, they put down your passion indirectly. you don’t want to lose them, because they seem to care for you, so you hide and lie, you mask.
i wouldn’t put it past jake to have some identity issues with how much he lies even to himself. ngl the more i write this the more i realize i said all the important things in my little chart. oh yeah my drew bpd hc this is def just me projecting btw, also i called it developing/undiagnosed in the chart since it's very rare for people his age to get diagnosed with it, plus he def goes around untreated. i guess the best way i can describe the two of them in my hc is this weird complicated love-hate thing. they're definitely not healthy, not at this rate, but it's like there's this slight chance, this sliver of hope that maybe things can work. i don't think that would happen though. i still need to think of how jake would even turn down drew, but i just know he'd be, more torn, lmao. you guys think a little bit of tyler the creator could've saved drew //slap
#💌#the music freaks#hyperfixation#jake sterling#tmf jake#tmf drew#tmf drake#again do you guys realize how funny this ship name is

thinking about dog breeds marketed as being a piece of history, I keep getting caught up in dog breeds for whom the real, verifiable, documented history is legitimately a story of resistance and survival.
I had half a post the other day about the well documented fact that indigenous breeds of livestock tend to not survive much past colonial occupation, right? This is especially true if the animals are an important part of indigenous culture, specifically because slaughtering all the animals or forcing indigenous people to cross them to 'improved' colonial strains is an almost ubiquitous piece of the colonialist occupier handbook. Often, after a long period of time, a member of the occupying colonizing culture will come in, scrape up whatever minimal pieces are left, outcross to a bunch of other strains, and start using the unstoppable, tragic story of loss to market the animals they now consider "theirs" to their fellows, generally without input from the living descendants of the strain's original creators. Sometimes, as with the American Indian Dog people, no obvious single breed or landrace actually even existed and they merge a whole bunch of cultures' animals together into a homogeneous mash-up!
Once the story is set, these storytellers will start breeding their animals according to their own fashions and values, because the story is only important insofar as it provides an exotic origin; it's not important in terms of creating cultural connection to the people who are mentioned in those origins. Often, when genetic tests are done and compared to pre-contact animals, it turns out that there's almost no trace of the originating strain left in any case. Often there are just no animals left after the one-two punch of decimation and drowning in modern genomes, and reconstruction can do as it will.
This is the story of the Appaloosa horse, the Araucana chicken, the Samoyed, the Alaskan Malamute, the Carolina Dog, basically every generic American Indian Dog project I am aware of, the Chihuahua, and a number of others. I am not familiar enough with with the history of Peruvian Orchid or Xolo to say there offhand, but I wouldn't be surprised.
(Sometimes a similar phenomenon occurs without the directed slaughter and forcible removal of indigenous control over their native animals, as with Saluki, Arabian horses, Basenji, and Afghan Hounds. This is more likely if the indigenous animals are not especially valued by the indigenous culture, as with Basenji, or if local colonization is not especially preoccupied with eradicating and assimilating local culture, as with British occupation of the Middle East.)
In recent decades, I've noted Saluki, Basenji, and Arabian breeders beginning to do more reaching out to cultures of origin and incorporating at least their modern dogs into the pedigree gene pools, as well as sometimes incorporating the actual opinions of those cultures on dog selection and breeding. This is awesome. More of that, please.
But there are also indigenous breeds and landraces out there that have survived colonization within the hands of their originating people!
Take the Sapsali of South Korea. During the Japanese colonial period, these dogs were slaughtered in huge numbers to make coats for Japanese soldiers and as a way of subjugating Korean culture. But very few survived, and they are in the process of being carefully managed by South Korean breeders to bring them back as a larger population. (The Jindo was the only South Korean dog breed to escape deliberate Japanese attempts at eradication, because it resembles Japan's own indigenous dog breeds and this was felt to be a plus. This doesn't mean that they weren't also slaughtered in huge numbers to be turned into coats; it just means that Japanese colonial efforts weren't actively trying to exterminate them.)
Greenland Dogs and Canadian Inuit Dogs hold a similar story of survival despite pressure to give the dogs up (including dog seizures and killings by the RCMP in the case of the Canadian dogs).
There are also reconstruction projects being undertaken by colonized peoples who are cheerfully agnostic about retaining unbroken genetic connection to their ancestral animals.
The Nez Perce horse, for example, is a Nez Perce-owned and managed effort to recreate their original horses--at the time renowned as long distance, fast endurance animals--using Akhal-Teke crosses to restore the original phenotype, away from the more common Quarter-Horse-like stock horses that characterize many of the animals currently registered as Appaloosas.
There are also some murmurings about potentially attempting to recreate the extinct Salish Woolly Dog with or without genomic assistance from preserved hides. That would be wild and incredibly cool, reconstruction or not.

hiiii I just wanted to ask if there is like a physical description on Nima?? i may have missed it in rereads but id just like to ask straight from the creator of the blorbo. Nima silly i would like to doodle a him :3
OOoooh
Imma tag @weilaverdui because she's also been curious about Nima
(If anyone missed, Nima is one of the original characters from my Aquarium fic)
Okay, so the main thing you currently have for him is actually Floyd's nickname, lol - toadfish. Specifically banded toadfish (because that's the species found in Peru/Chile).
They look like this
Of the stuff that hasn't made it into the fic... well, he's based on Kronk and he used to play center like Floyd - Nima is tall and broad as far as build goes. Not sure where he'd be from since TWST doesn't have anything based on the Emperor's New Groove, but still - the dude's obviously not white and based on an ancient Peruvian character. So.
But yeah, I imagine him having a toadfish's silly little smile and cheeks. Like really unintimidating, especially in contrast to how big and physically strong he is, unless he's frowning or concentrating on something. Kinda bushy, very expressive eyebrows
He might do something silly with his hair and dye it a funky color, but I haven't thought much about that.
Dunno if you want to do, like, a static pose, but he tends to gesture big.
I don't actually have a proper description, haha, so feel free to improvise. I have no idea how all these elements will work together, you have full reign and my delighted permission to make Nima what you want him to be.

18. America Chavez aka Miss America - biracial; Afro-Puerto Rican Caribbean
19. Carmen Cruz aka Gimmick - biracial; Afro-Latina
20. Laura Kinney aka Wolverine - biracial; Afro-Latina and half white; her exact ethnicity is unknown but first appearance (in the animated X-Men: Evolution series) depicts her with dark skin and her “mother” had darker skintone with blonde hair. Her creators didn’t specify her ethnicity but I do think she’s Hispanic. And given the darker skintone of her “mother”, she’s most likely Afro-Latina. I know in recent comic adaptation portray her with way lighter skin tone but her ORIGINAL appearance shows her with DARKER skintone (thought not as dark as her “mother”). As such, I have seen Laura as half white and half Afro Latina but the Hispanic nationality is unknown. Also, as a side note, her creators also mentioned they planned to do a LGBT storyline with Laura but it was axed. So, she’s also LGBT.
21. Cecilia Reyes - Puerto Rican and depicted with dark-skinned complexion
22. Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot - biracial; Afro-Brazilian
23. Armando Munoz aka Darwin - biracial; Afro-Latino; Hispanic nationality unknown

Alejandro has participated in south american skating contests, referred to himself as having latin blood, and eats foods with origins to latin america. spaniards are white and i dont know why some members of production and the fandom keep saying he is a full spaniard😭😭he's latino, he probably grew up in spain but hi dont think people realize that spaniards are white.. they are hispanic but not latino. and i want to die every time someone says "whats the difference??" because the gringos in both production and the fandom dont even bother to research our culture😭😭😭😭the creator and designers cant even say the same thing about his ethnicity💀💀
anyway ignorance is hurtful but at least it lets us have lot of freedom to interpret from latin american country😌😌 i see as peruvian

About the fandom post, I wonder if how Matt and Trey/The Studio in general treats the fandom has an influence. The social media reblogs fanart, the TweekXCraig episode of course. There's a discussion board for fans to discuss the show. They awknowledge fanon occasionally [wether is Wendy being interpretated as trans or Craig being Peruvian- they made a post acknowledging the theories about Craig and basically state you can think whatever] I think how creators treat fandom plays a part in how well the fandom thrives.
On the flipside, there's the Miraculous Ladybug fandom. Thomas Astruc is very condescending and aggressive to fandom. Videos about Miraculous Ladybug get taken down for "copyright" when it was fair use commentary, he blocks people on Twitter for having interpretations of his characters he deems wrong and is just generally a dick.
South Park Studios is nurtures their fandom. They tend to treat as an opportunity for inspiration or keeping up an audience. [fandom is GREAT advertising, just look at my little pony: friendship is magic].
Meanwhile Thomas Astruc is actively hurting fandom. When people basically get punished for fanart or commentary, it drives people AWAY from the series and weakens the fandom.
Basically a happy healthy fandom can be beneficial to a series
Yeah, pretty much. I don't have a ton to add since you basically nailed everything. Generally fandom goers appreciate being acknowledged by creators of the source material, so go figure stuff like that would make their community thrive

In 1901, the Division of Scientific Research was formed, which included the Hygienic Laboratory as well as other research offices of the Marine Hospital Service. The newly founded Peruvian Congress named Bolivar dictator of Peru, giving him the power to organize the military. This, and an ensuing ground invasion, killed nearly every human in the facility, including their father and sister. Some linguists have encouraged the creation of neologisms to decrease the instances of confusion caused by puns. For a while after this, some koi farmers in neighboring states stopped importing fish for fear of infecting their own stocks. Conditions for workers were often poor and exploitative, and local islanders often violently attacked any Europeans who appeared on their island. In 1547, New Granada became a separate captaincy-general within the viceroyalty, with its capital at Santa Fe de Bogota. Because the method relies on antigen rather than viable bacteria, the results are not disrupted by prior antibiotic use. Sir Kay briefly appears in the season 5 opener of Once Upon a Time, where he betrays Arthur and attempts to pull Excalibur out of the stone to rule Camelot for himself. Following the end of the Cold War, defence policy has a stated assumption that the most demanding operations will be undertaken as part of a coalition. Group 1 faxes take six minutes to transmit a single page, with a vertical resolution of 96 scan lines per inch. An additional, more lasting punitive measure taken by the Romans involved expunging Judaea from the provincial name, changing it from Provincia Judaea to Provincia Syria Palestina. Without many refinements, it is best described as rustic, though many holidays are still celebrated with special foods. Many migrant workers racked up debt and depended on the help of charities. The library system also houses original and microfilm collections of Virgin Islands Archives, records, newspapers and other materials. A rapid appraisal survey of Kuy dialects spoken in Cambodia. According to the Black Tie Guide, the peaked lapel and shawl collar are equally authentic and correct, with the latter being slightly less formal. With Salazar gone, Carrera reinstated Rivera Paz as head of state. In 1989, Babangida started making plans for the transition to the Third Nigerian Republic. The Garhajis also have a significant presence in the western and central areas of Sanaag region as well, including the regional capital Erigavo as well as Maydh. Soviet Russia adopted a red flag following the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. Initially, each conference was numbered after the release, and not regular held. Modern surveys in Europe and the United States show red is also the color most commonly associated with heat, activity, passion, sexuality, anger, love, and joy. God is often believed to be the cause of all things and so is seen as the creator and sustainer and the ruler of the universe. Both teams set out to confirm their results by these methods. This was chased away in November by a visit from four British warships, but later returned.
