Usaha dan terus berusaha.

Memang tidak ada cara lain selain harus tetap bergerak. Bergerak melewati hari. Bergerak tuk menggapai mimpi.

Sudah tidak bisa mundur mengulang waktu. Pilihan yang ada hanyalah diam atau mau terus melangkah.

Sulit. Sangat sulit untuk melakukannya. Apalagi ketika sudah sampai di titik dimana semua usaha sudah dikerjakan. Upaya sudah diperjuangkan, tapi sampai sekarang belum terlihat hasil yang begitu dibanggakan.

Ya. Selamat datang di kehidupan.

Dimana semua berjalan tidak sesuai harapan. Akan ada air mata, kekecewaan, akan ada penyesalan. Warna-warni yang terus menghiasi hari.

Tarik nafas. Tenangkan sejenak pikiran. Berlutut dan berdoa agar diri bisa dikuatkan.

Tidak mudah memang. Sekali lagi tidak mudah. Tetapi lebih baik terus mencoba daripada nantinya menyesal karena tidak pernah mencoba.

As promised, here are my personal Top 9 favorites from 2019. Some of you agree with my picks through your likes, some you didn’t. Or perhaps I created it too late in the year to get traction. But regardless of their number of likes or internet exposure. I love these pieces. They are my little art children and all of them have a bit of a background story or personal connection to me. For example, in the floating lantern piece the gentleman is about to propose. That is why his hand is in his pocket and why he looks a little less excited about the moment. His stomach is flipping around and his throat is pretty tightly constricted. She has no idea. Or another example is the lady in the fine hat and the pink color block. She reminds me of my childhood, watching My Fair Lady over and over again in my grandmas basement. I loved Audrey Hepburn’s amazing outfits and simple beauty. It’s the first time I remember wanting to transport myself into another time. With nothing but brothers at the time, it was also the first time I actually wanted be a girl and liked girly things. This piece is not supposed to be Audrey. But I really channeled that memory into it. Anyway, thank you for following me and cheering for me in 2019 and each year before that. Is that clear?" from Paul Robeson's testimony at the House Committee on Un-American Activities on June 12, 1956. /// Paul Robeson (1898-1976) was a renaissance man of his time. He was an all-American football player and valedictorian at Rutgers University (1915-1919), as the 3rd Black person to attend and overcoming numerous incidents of racism. He played in the National Football League (1921-1922). He earned a law degree from Columbia Law School in 1922. He was a successful figure in the Harlem Renaissance as an actor in many plays and movies. In 1930 in London he was cast as Othello; he was the first Black actor to be Othello in 105 years (Ira Aldridge was the last Black man in 1825; his production was closed by a pro-slavery lobby). His appearance as the star in the 1933 film "The Emperor Jones" was the first film to feature an African American in the starring role and was met with controversy for its content among Black and White communities. He was an amazing singer with a wonderful voice and sang all over the world to audiences of all people. He supported America's efforts during World War II but his association with the Soviet Union and the Council on African Affairs would draw the attention of the FBI (J. Edgar Hoover again) and McCarthyism's wrath as well. He publicly advocated for Soviet policies andwas later denied a passport which greatly affected his ability to earn money. /// Robeson lived a complicated life & many points of his career were controversial due to stereotypical portrayals of Black people. Robeson would later work against the stereotypes & publicly made his beliefs known which was the main reason for the end of his career. Overcome Your Fear(s).

Dipikir-pikir rasa takut itu wajar kok. Rasa takut juga salah bentuk ekspresi yang normal. Tapi apa yang terjadi kalau kita memiliki takut berlebihan atau bisa disebut sebagai phobia?

Toni itu adalah seorang ombrophobia. Toni takut bila turun hujan. Pasalnya terkadang rumah Toni mengalami kebanjiran yang cukup membuat dirinya begitu traumatik.

⠀

Jangankan hujan. Melihat langit bewarna gelap saja, bulu kuduknya langsung berdiri tegak. Dengar geledek saja sudah mampu membuat Toni was-was.

⠀

Bahkan ketika hujan terjadi tengah malam pun, Toni lebih memilih terjaga sambil kecemasan menguasai diri.

⠀

Pernah, ketika rumah kediamannya mengalami banjir, Toni langsung sulit untuk berpikir tenang, jantung berdegup begitu cepat. Kekhawatiran langsung mengambil alih pikirannya.

⠀

Untung waktu itu ada sang Ibu yang mencoba menenangkannya, ada Ibu yang membuat dirinya menjadi lebih damai.

⠀

Toni masih belajar untuk mengatasi phobia yang ada, menenangkan hati dan pikirannya. Meski itu sulit, tapi harus dicoba perlahan.

⠀

Apapun bentuk rasa takutnya, cobalah tenangkan diri, cobalah melihat segala sesuatunya dari sisi yang baik, sisi yang positif, atau mungkin juga lebih mendekatkan diri kepada sang Pencipta, biar tahu bahwa segalanya pasti akan baik-baik saja.

Mungkin kita akan sulit untuk mengerti, tapi cobalah belajar untuk mengerti secara perlahan saja, kembali lagi bawa Tuhan dalam sisimu, biar kita bisa jauh lebih tenang.
