Have a Wren this Wednesday!

Specifically, a Carolina Wren, because I very much enjoy their round, borb shape <3

Sketched this yesterday morning, mostly copic marker with some multi-liner pen, color pencil, and graphite on mixed media paper

okay so i had an idea for what if Chibi Usa became Sailor Sun when she gets older and I'm gonna tell you about it (and show some sketches) under the cut

apologies if i'm not the first to think of this since this is an old fandom and we all be coming up with sailor sun concepts bUT

so i feel like, you know, chibi usa can't really BE a sailor moon, can she? because usagi has the moon sailor crystal. and at first everyone assumed that because usagi couldn't transform once she became queen that meant chibiusa HAD to be the next sailor moon, but the silver crystal never worked for her.

then she just... made her own.

and over time it changed. at first it was just like usagi's, but then it turned pink and became the pink moon crystal. but maybe that's just everyone making assumptions again, because she's sailor moon's daughter so she HAS to be a sailor moon???

nah.

so i posit: as she moves through her teen years (nine hundred and teen... years?) and becomes more of an independent person, it becomes clear that her sailor crystal isn't the pink moon crystal... it's the pink SUN crystal

(sun ruby? solar spinel??)

i feel like it jives better with her being the leader of her own team, not her mom's, and also her connection with helios (named for the sun god). also i just like the symbolism of it!! in order to step out of her mom's shadow and shine in her own right she must become the sun

anyway here's my concept for the costume and brooch and also, magic weapons

🌈 Rainbow Monster 🌸

Not my usual style, but I miss traditional drawing so much! I forgot how heavily influenced I was by the art of Brian Froud. As a kid I’d flip through the Frouds’ art books for hours and look at their drawings and sculptures of trolls, fairies, and goblins. Fun fact, Jim Henson worked closely with Brian and Wendy Froud when making the films The Dark Crystal and Labrinth. Oh I love their creatures so much! This drawing of Julie Joyful was meant to capture that creepy/cute Froud style, and I’m excited to practice more it. Please look forward to more traditional drawings from me!
