Ongoing Series - Thai

Fourever You (Thai Thurs YT) ep 4 of 16 - OK so Hill has really been trying to pick him up from the beginning? I don’t understand why there’s any doubt around girls at all. He Gay everyone. Why is Tatch (2 Moons Ambassador) the only seme in Thai BL history allowed to actually just say "I don’t date women.”

Why is that so hard?

This show is definitely frustrating me, but I must admit that it’s the one I look forward to the most each week.

Love Sick 2024 (Thai Sun iQIYI) ep 6 of 15 - I am now only watching the uncut version, and I gotta say it makes all the difference. Please don’t watch the cut version of this show if you can possibly help it. It’s like cliff's notes of cliff's notes. I love the tiny side couple of tough kid + the dork of the music club. Ah the beach sequence. Condenced WAY DOWN, I see. We lost one of the most iconic lines in all BL but i think everything is improved by how much tighter the plot is in the remake (6 episodes became 1!). So I’m enjoying it. Weirdly, I'm not sure I would be enjoying it, if I hadn’t seen the original.

Is anyone watching this on iQIYI who hasn't seen the original? Just out of curiosity. Tell me how it's going for you, would ya? 

I'm doing a face-off style watch along of this new version versus the original 2014-2015 version.

Kidnap (Fri YT) ep 8 of 12 - I don’t entirely get it. They were apart for approximately 11 minutes. I would’ve thought GMMTV would’ve drawn it out for longer and more angst. Smiley face kiss was cute, but the star of this ep was that gorgeous pale blue waffle sweater on Q. What a great color for Leng! 

Jack & Joker (Thai Mon IQIYI) ep 7 of 12 - I do like that we’re seeing an honest exploration of poverty and hopelessness. I’m not sure how I feel about it inside my BL, tho I’m willing to persavere for this pair.

Battle of the Writers (Sun YT) ep 12 end - Someone said recently "just imagine what TutorYim could do with an actual script." And you know what? I agree. Because they sure as shit haven’t gotten one yet. And it’s getting quite frustrating. I’m having JaFirst flashbacks. Frankly, 2024 has been a year of unmitigated BL nonsense narratives. And I’m tired of it. I know it’s bog standard for the genre, but it feels like there’s been more than normal faff this year.

Summary 

An incredibly convoluted, disjointed, and badly-paced drama that is about(?) some writers writing a thing and some boys who knew each other when they were kids, lots of pretty sexy times, and not much else. The visuals are gorgeous, the side couples are overly appealing (with little to no screen time), the dubbing and sound is absurdly bad, and the fantasy novel (play within a play) makes no sense whatsoever while also managing to be the show that we all actually wanted to see instead of what we were given. 6/10 

In conclusion, I have no interest in attempting to understand or revisit this show, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it, but if you have nothing better to do…… the sex is good (frankly I have exes that satisfy all the same criteria). So there it is: this show is like a bad but still hot ex.  

Every You Every Me (Thai Mon Gaga) ep 3 of 10 - Nice to see Fiat in something again. Namping is very angel baby.  This episode made me think that this pair would do a great Thai remake of Love Tractor, and now that’s pretty much all I want in life. I enjoyed wardrobe in this episode. It looks like we get the same characters next week. Cool. 

Bad Guy My Boss (Thai Sun Gaga) ep 6 of 10 - I guess everyone is messy slutty bisexual in this show? Do I care? Not even slightly. BLabies, I don’t think I’m gonna make it. I might have to drop this one.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

See Your Love (Taiwan Weds Gaga) ep 1-2 of 13 - I adore it, what a wonderful meet cute. I love a Taiwanese BL that starts with a gratuitous kidnapping, some chasing, and a bit of a fight sequence. We in OLD fashioned territory. 

Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YT) ep 5 of ? - I continue to enjoy it very much.

My Damn Business (Korea Sat YT) eps 4 of 7 - Oh! Is the sleazy boss gonna turn out to be actually a sleazy player? That would be an interesting twist.

Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo (Korea Thurs Gaga) eps 3 of 8 - I’m really not a big fan of my pain coming from Korea. I’m getting a whiff of To My Star 2 from this one. And that does not make me happy. I know: high quality high angst yada yada blah blah blah. But also unnecessary pain? No thank you. 

First Note Of Love (Taiwan Mon Gaga) ep 12 end - Of course, I love the part where Reese and Orca spoke each other’s languages.

Conclusion

Had this been produced a mere 3 or 4 years ago, I would’ve been quite enamored. But by comparison to what we’ve been getting, this is a lackluster offering. A has-been musician and a much younger composer meet, fall in love, and attempt to rectify his stalled musical career. Cute side couple of a Thai popstar + his Korean manager. Everyone is very fine and it was a fine show. I wasn’t disappointed, but I wasn’t impressed either. 8/10 

Love is Like a Poison AKA Doku Koi: Doku mo Sugireba Koi to Naru (Japan Tues Netflix?) 6 of 10 eps - It was a fun little confession and climax, there was crying, and a bridge kiss (been a while) all of this appeals to me even if they are tiny idiots (in the immortal words of @heretherebedork )

Eccentric Romance (Korea Weds Viki) eps 5-6 of 12 - More tiny idiot boyfriends who don’t realize they’re boyfriends. That’s it, that’s all that’s happening. Ostensibly there’s some kind of murder. But it seems to be acting more like set dressing than plot.

It's airing but...

The Hidden Moon (Sat WeTV) 10 eps - Supernatural romance (my ghost boyfriend trope) by Violet Rain (I Feel You Linger). A man is hired to write an article about an old mansion. He sees the ghosts of people who died at the mansion, falls in love with one of them. Was substantially recast. I loved IFYLITA except the ending so I think I'll let this one run it's course you can tell me if it's work tracking down... if they managed to land it. I have my doubts.

Love in the Big City (Korea Viki) 8ep - Vicki dropped them all at once which means I did what I do under such circumstances and skipped to watch the final episode. (I am well aware that this makes me a monster. ) Anygay, that told me that I’m not gonna be bothering to watch the series. Now y'all can tell me how amazing it is and what I’ve missed and blah blah blah. But I’m comfortable with my choice. It’s ICRY 2.0 + HIV. And I’m not willing to play its literatti game. At some point I might watch it on fast-forward for the sex scenes, but I’m not at that point yet.

MKcember Day 13: Tzedek and/or Persaverence

His throat is warm and tangy. It’s hard to breathe.

“Fthrrr…Khnnshhhhuu…” It is a desperate call, a stubborn one. The shadows sweep in blues and reds around him, intangible as they watch.

“I can do nothing,” Khonshu says. “But you have done this for me, you are mine.”

“I am proud.”

Red, slipping away into an open sea, its flow split from the right path. This is wrong.

Keep going. Hands on his shoulders, warm around his heart. Neon lights and desk lamps and words that urge him forward. He growls under his breath, fervent and stubborn as their pulse hammers. Waning. Slowing. But never stopping.

Their legs ache as they get to their feet. Every inch of their body stings, words soft in a mouthful of numbness that trips as he tries to speak. Sticky teeth. A cloak dripping in evening light. A sunset, perhaps. Ready to bury itself in the warm earth.

This must be done. For all. For us.

The world hums to life, crackling in maddening red. The walls buzz as shouts build from the streets below.

We did not do this for him.

“Shema Ysrael…” Marc whispers. A bubble gurgles free in their throat. “…Adonai eloheinu…” Their breath shivers. “Adonai echad…”

It is a rededication of final breath, a reclamation to hold onto what has slipped. Rest soon. A dry mouth parched to drink.

They squeeze the trigger together, never wavering, and the world around them bursts into fire.

A book, and a coffee shop

for @lark-mage as part of the ffxiv swap exchange. In which Ashwin and Aliase have a chat about books

Ashwin had found the book just lying on an otherwise empty table in The Last Stand. It looked like a newer copy-the font was different, the leather cover was a warm shade of reddish brown instead of black, and the pages where much much less worn, but Ashwin would know that insignia anywhere.

Cautiously they picked up the book and traced the cover over with their finger. In the books story it had been a magic key, the thing that the protagonist would carry with her everywhere in hopes of unlocking the secrets of her family history. Ashwin had read it back to front so many times that they could quote it from memory.

They had brought their own copy with them from home. It had been left behind in their quarters at the waking sand. It was probably still there, they hadn’t really had the time or thought to return the Scions old headquarters.

“What are you looking at?” Aliase asked, reaching up on her tiptoes to see over Ashwin’s shoulder.

Ashwin turned towards her, and offered it out. “It’s called the Crystal Key. It’s my favorite child hood books.”

“Oh?” Aliase took the offered book, turning it over in her hand. “I think I remember Urianger reading bits of this to me when I was a kid. How nostalgic. “

“I’ve never taken Urianger as the type for adventure novels.” Ashwin noted.

Aliase’s expression turned melancholy. “He isn’t really. Honestly I think Urianger reads history textbooks for fun. It’s just...this one was Moenbryda’s favorite.”

“Oh.” Another detail about Moenbryda they wished they'd knew. Based on the stories the had been told it was highly likely that the Roegadyn woman would’ve made a good friend.

“It’s a good story.” Aliase said, in an attempt to return to the initial topic. “I like the mystery, although I never quite liked the protagonist.

That caused Ashwin to raise an eyebrow.” Why not?”

“Well she just felt sort of...passive to me.” Aliase explain.

“She was in a deeply unwinnable situation.” Ashwin argued. “I’ve always admired her persaverance against such odds.”

“Maybe I should give it another try then. Do you think anyone will miss this.” Aliase asked gesturing with the book.”

“I haven’t seen anything.” Ashwin said with a wink. “Although now I feel I have to ask: what books did you enjoy as a kid?”

“Oh that’s easy. I adored the Cassopiea Wikstrom books.”

“The teenage girl dective?” Ashwin smiled. “Yes that somehow suits you.”

“Shush. I liked it for the travel and adventure parts. Alphinuad read it for the mystery aspect. He would always blurt out who the killer was before I was done with it.”

Ashwin laughed at that. “You know, I think you kind of remind me of Cassie. You both are very plucky and adventurous people.” Not to mention stubborn, but that detail they chose to keep to themselves. “What was your favorite story?”

“Terror in Doma’s Heart.” She exclaimed without missing a beat.”

“Huh. I don’t think I read that one.”

“Really?” Aliase looked taken aback. “Well we can’t let that stand.” She grabbed Ashwin’s hand and pulled them along. “Come on, I still have all my book at home.”

Ashwin went along with Aliase’s pushing. There was certainly worse ways to spend ones retirement

Software Pūmanawa Object Creation

In this post I will illustrate my process of creating an object in Adobe illustrator 2024 using the skills I have learnt over the past week. I've got to admit this was not a simple process, and I probably did not choose the best object- or animal. In whch i chose to create a cat.

First things first I set up my workspace, bringing out the swatches, gradient and layers tool. I also toggled the control bar at the top of the screen. For my file settings I had it set to pixels and RGB.

Then I begun laying down simple shapes, trying to get a rough understanding of where I wanted to place parts of the cat. I started by using the ellipse tool, creating a circular shape for the head. Next I used the rectangle tool and adjusted the shapes to my liking.

The next thing I did was place additional points on the circle using the + key. I used these points to drag out fur and a muzzle for the cat. I used rougly 3-4 different points around the head for this process.

My next stage was to begin shaping the body and tail of the cat, I rounded it out and created a tail that curves around the body. I did this by using the pen tool and creating some anchor points.

The next step was to try and make some sort of front legs, this, as you can see, did not go very well. it was incredibly difficult and it was very very fustrating. However, I still had to persavere. I created this first front leg using the pen tool.

The next thing I had to do, was create a second front leg. I did this by duplicating the first let and deleting the segments that werent visible from the perspective.

My next two steps were the creation of the Eyes and nose, and the hind leg. The hind leg was the difficult part, trying to get it to sit correctly. The easy part was the eye, I used the ellipse tool once more and then used the gradient tool selecting the second gradient option and then dragging the green up from the swatches. The nose I later changed but it was also fairly simple, just using the pen tool.

A quick short step was just adding the white shine to the eye, all that was nessacary was using the Ellipse tool again but having the stroke and fill set to white. This however is where it went down hill.

You might look at this and go 'hey! thats not the same cat!' its because it isnt, excluding the head. I ran into an issue where when i went to fill the body there was a giant invisible white square, I tried for ages to fix this but only ran into more issues. One of the ways I tried to fix the problem was entirely redoing the body, which is why the shape changed so drastically. After googling and searching for solutions and finding naught I decided on just making the cat white, which wasnt my plan but it was the only thing I could think of. As for the coloring I added an inner ear and redid the nose, setting the stroke and line to two diffrent pinks, one dark and one slightly lighter.

My last and final step was adding some sort of shadow, as the body is nearly fully incolorable I went for adding a shadow to the bottom of the cat and the front leg. You can actually see a bit of the problem square on the front leg shadow. It is incredibly fustrating. This above is the final version of my design. Though not entirely happy with the outcome ( because of the coloring issues ) Its cute enough and i think it demonstrates my learning. I also seperated what I could into layers.

Overall, the most difficult and slowest part was definitly the coloring process I chose the cat because I like cats and know their general anatomy, but I think id choose maybe a building or something next time. I definitly need more practice with the pen tool as its still a bit difficult to wrap my head around.

7 Drivers Theory

I've seen this as a trend on tiktok but nothing really on tumblr and wanted to replicate it but with more in depth description of why i chose each driver for that category.

The driver who made you fall in love with F1

seb - it will always be seb for me. as a kid i only saw f1 casually (like if i was at a friends house, staying with my gran or saw it on the tv in the pub) but he was always there and always winning. something about him always seemed magic to 7 year old me. and when i started getting into f1 properly (during the ferrari seb years) he just continued to be my favorite, i'd gravitate towards watching for his name on the screen and something about the seb podiums always felt that bit more special to me. the "you just wait sunshine, you just wait" radio is ingrained in my brain forever <3

The driver that would make you laugh in any situation

lando - hes just giggly and funny and his sense of humour matches mine so well. he seems like a genuinely decent person and i feel like we would get on well in real life

The driver you miss the most

senna - i think to have watched the greatness that is lewis makes me that bit sadder that i wasn't alive when senna was winning. michael shumacher is a little different because obviously he was on the grid in the early 2010s so he always seemed real but senna has this mythical quality to me because i never saw him race, thus making me miss him that much more.

Your comfort driver

charles - something about his persaverance despite all the things that have happened in his life comforts me. he tries so hard and he is rewarded but also he has faced so much loss and pain (and ferrari stratagy) but he's always smiling and kind and respectful, something i think is conforting to see.

The driver you support no matter what

lewis - as a kid, lewis was the only f1 driver i knew a lot about. my gran is a massive lewis fan, and he was always nominated for the SPOTY (a british sports award ceremony) so he was the most present of the all the f1 drivers during the years where i didn't watch f1 a lot. his commitment to lgbtq+ rights and fighting discrimination within f1 is so admirable (especially in a sport than can be so toxic like f1) and he seems like such a kind person. i will always support him because i truely beleive he is one of the greatest of all time.

The driver you always talk about

nico rosberg - something about this man just collects in my brain and refuses to let me go. his story is FASCINATING from his begining in karting, the brocedes of it all and his retirement. his entire career feels like one big mystery that i just cant help but talk about. even my friends who know nothing about f1 have heard me explain the events of the 2016 far more times than i can remember.

The driver you're always proud of

alex - he is just one of those drivers i'm always looking for when the race is on. he's had such an up and down route through f1. from thinking he didn't have a seat, all the drama within his family, to joining red bull, getting kicked out and eventually turning williams into a more competitive team. truely resiliance that is so note worthy yet i feel like within the world of f1 alex is not talked about enough, especially considering the progress williams has made over the last year.

I played two games of Persaverance this weekend. One at 4-players and the other at the 2-player count. Both times were excellent and I was able to try two different strategies effectively. There is a lot going on in the game but it it flows well after the second Assembly scoring.
