I really do think Percy and Vex are such an excellent example of friends to lovers because while their dynamic isn't always in the spotlight, there are a lot of little moments that are really fun to watch and take note of, and more importantly that earn the later places they go in the narrative. Obviously we have him starting to make different types of arrows for her, but there's also the way he teases her about money and haggling, and she's receptive to it in a way she isn't from everyone else because he also shows an understanding of what her actual concerns are. (See enchantedmerry's excellent post.) We see from the moment in the Hall of the Exalt in 1x16 that they're very playful with each other and a little bit flirtatious, but they also have a great deal of mutual respect and clearly enjoy bouncing off one another.
And then you have these moments like "darling, take the mask off", or the standoff with the Githyanki skull where Vex doesn't know who to trust, or the Sunken Tomb and the aftermath, and they all hit a lot harder when you know what they've already been through and how they've been moving. So the "do I look like I come from money" moment is a major turning point—but it's because Vex trusting Percy enough to open up to him in that moment only works on the strength of the times where she didn't and the other, quieter times where she did.

A big problem that I have with Ricks writing of Percy in Last Olympian is that it treats Percy as the only child that's being forced to go to war. The book starts with Percy telling us that he's been taking breaks and hanging out with Rachel all summer while the rest of the campers are preparing to fight in a war. It then has Chiron confirm that Percy has been given special treatment and it gets even worse when Percy is so out of the loop in what's happening at camp that not only does he not know why the Ares and Apollo campers are fighting but he does not even realize that Grover, his best friend, is literally missing. With all of this in mind it's annoying that Percy is named commander of their army. It makes no sense outside of main character syndrome. Rick wanted to give Percy his Harry Potter/Katniss Everdeen war leadership protagonist moment but he never actually has Percy earn it and there are other characters who have earned, has more experience than Percy and has actually been at camp getting the campers ready to fight.
Percy, the guy who has been taking extended breaks from camp while everyone else was prepping for war, the guy who has no idea what's going on with the people he's meant to lead, the guy who looks down on and complains about the people he's meant to lead but takes no steps to be there and set an example they should follow, the guy who spent his free time not with his comrades and friends who could die if they're not properly trained but with a mortal girl who was in no danger of fighting in a war, the guy who did nothing to build morale amongst a bunch of kids who would be dead by the end of summer because he was wallowing in his own self pity (understandable but also not leadership material if that means he's ignoring preparations), the guy only really spends his holidays at camp and usually has no idea what's happening there between books (Percy is always out of the loop at the start of each novel whereas Annabeth by comparison always knows what's happening at camp even when she's at school). How on earth has Percy earned the title of leader at the start of tlo?
Even leading up to the war in the other books his leadership isn't more than the level of leadership we've seen from other people and simply being powerful isn't a good reason to be a leader. Being powerful means the commander needs to know how to strategically use you. It does not mean you should lead when you've barely shown decent leadership skills up to that point especially in the very book where you're given that title. And to be clear, Percy taking breaks or hanging out with Rachel isn't even truly a problem. But it's the fact that he's given special treatment that others aren't combined with him straight up telling us that this isn't a one off thing. Leaving camp to prioritize hanging out with Rachel is something that he consistently did all summer leading up to a war where the very people he was belittling, ignoring and criticizing are the ones who would eventually need to have his back. Why would Rick tell us this then name Percy as commander of their squad? He did not deserve that and the first few chapters show all the reasons why. Again, fandom doesn't call out this nonsense because that would require taking Percy off the pedestal he exist on in this fandom.
Even during the war Percy is coddled by the writing. Let's keep in mind that Percy is one of the strongest demigods to ever exist and he also went into the war with the Curse of Achille's. Because of those two things Percy was barely in any danger throughout the entire final battle and the few moments he was in danger Annabeth saves him by endangering her own life to bodily position herself as his shield. The same Annabeth who wasn't worth him spending what could be his final months of life with (it really irritates me that she deserves better than the way Percy treated her in botl and tlo and nobody talks about it because the fandom is not ok with acknowledging that Percy is not perfect and sometimes treats the people he's suppose to care about most like crap). Percy left that war with no physical scars and he didn't even lose anyone close to him. All of his inner circle survived (Sally, Annabeth, Grover, Tyson etc) while everyone around him suffered massive losses.
Annabeth took a knife almost to the heart to save him and she jumped into a crashing helicopter to save Rachel, Beckendorf died, Michael Yew died, Apollo, Aphrodite and Hephestus cabins all suffered massive loses when they lost siblings. The same can be assumed about Athena and the other cabins. Were any of these kids given special treatment like Percy was in the lead up to a war where they all suffered? Beckendorf and Michael could have used that special treatment considering that unlike Percy they actually died and it was their last summer. Annabeth could have used that special treatment considering that unlike Percy she almost died and was temporarily maimed, Will could have used that special treatment considering he lost his siblings during that summer. So many people actually deserved the special consideration that Percy was given. I would resent the crap out of Percy taking and being given special treatment if I was another camper. We're all going to fight in a war. Prophecy child or not the chances of any of them dying were high and these other campers don't have half the power that Percy has. Him taking and being given breaks/special treatment at the top of tlo really made no sense and reads as very selfish when you consider that all these kids were marching to war, not just him.
And as much as I do like Percabeth I have to admit that they barely work for me in tlo because of Percys treatment of Annabeth in both botl and tlo which shockingly are the two books where he first starts getting attention from other girls. It will never be lost on me that Percys shitty treatment of Annabeth coincided with him getting attention from other girls for the first time. That's such dude bro behavior that I genuinely didn't expect from Percy. The entire first series wraps up with Percy mostly treating Annabeth like less than compared to his other love interest so I've just never been that invested in them as a ship in the time between the end of Titans Curse and the start of Heroes of Olympus because I've always thought Annabeth deserved better. Annabeth could have died. They were all heading into war. Yet Percy spent the summer leading up to a war in which Annabeth could die prioritizing spending time with another girl but I'm suppose to buy that he cares about her and wants to he with her by the end of the book? Annabeth spent that entire last book saving Percy both physically (the bridge) and mentally (the styx) and Percy spent the entire book treating her like she was barely important or special to him down to the disgusting ways he keeps comparing her to Rachel. As if both girls can't be their own people outside of him. He only acts like he cares about Annabeth when she literally almost dies saving him. Nothing will ever make me like how Rick wrote Percy's treatment of Annabeth between botl and tlo. It took Heroes of Olympus to get me to start liking Percy again. Just really shitty behavior that never gets acknowledged because Percys hypocrisy never gets challenged the way that other characters do.
Even if you remove the romantic elements of their building relationship, Annabeth still deserved better than that as she was still his best friend. And as mentioned above he didn't even realize Grover was missing and he shares an empathy link with Grover. Percy was a terrible friend to both his best friends in the lead up to a war where they could have died. Both your best friends might die horrifically in a war fighting by your side but you spent your summer prioritizing a mortal girl? This is why I have a hard time buying that Percys fatal flaw is truly loyalty. Percy is loyal in big moments like going on quest to save his friends etc. Will never take that away from him because he deserves credit for that. But I find Percy to be the furthest thing from loyal when it comes to the small moments which are the ones that matter just as much if not more imo. When it comes to the smaller moments he proves time and time again that his loyalty to his loved ones, especially to Annabeth, is fickle, situational, easily swayed and easily challenged. *at least in the first five books so that does not include him becoming boyfriend of the year in Heroes of Olympus.
I also really hate that Rick positions Annabeth as representing the demi-god side of Percy that he needed "breaks" from because Annabeth has nothing to do with Percy being the child of the prophecy or having to fight in a war. Both those things would still be true of his life even if he had never met Annabeth. So both Percy and Rick putting that blame on her via the way Percy frames things in his narration by comparing her to his other love interest has always been disgusting and made me think less of Percy. The only person to blame for Percy being the child of the prophecy were Sally and Poseidon.

I was talking to @darkmagyk about my fourth Percababy, Rosie, and ended up writing three Rosie-centered interludes. These are a ll short, disconnected pieces set when she's two years old.
Mom Brain
Percy and Sophia had run out to Walgreens to grab some last minute poster board, and had left Annabeth with a kitchen to clean and a baby who wanted an ice pop. Annabeth wrapped a bunch of paper towels around the plastic tube to try and catch any drippage as Rosie sucked on the pink otter pop.
Annabeth held Rosie on her hip as she tried to collect the pots and plates in the sink.
“Rosie, can you come help me?” Annabeth called towards the living room.
No one responded.
“Rosie, you need to help,” she yelled again. “Rosie, come --”
She felt a baby hand on her face. Rosie turned her mother’s face to look at her.
“Mama, I is right here,” she explained, obviously confused.
“Right,” Annabeth said, processing that she’d been calling for the girl in her arms. “Max -- Sophia -- oh!” Annabeth stepped into the living room where her other two daughters were watching TV. “You!”
Nella looked up at her.
“Actually, both of you can help clean the kitchen,” Annabeth said to both girls, waving them towards the kitchen. The girls stood up to help clean with little protest.
Rosie pointed at her older sisters. “Mama, they’s Nella and Livy,” Rosie explained to her.
“There’s too many of you,” Annabeth said, nearly tripping over their white cat, Ghost. Annabeth pressed a steadying hand to Rosie’s back so her two-year-old didn’t fall. “You’re hard to keep track of.”
Nap Trapped
It was a lazy Sunday afternoon. Olivia and Percy were in the kitchen cooking something up that they saw on the Food Network, but otherwise, it was a day for couch potatoing. Annabeth had a Sophia on one side and a Nella on the other. Rosie had parked herself on the floor with several horse toys and her Jessie doll.
“Rosie, do you wanna cuddle?” Sophia asked her. Rosie shook her head and kept on playing.
“Alright ladies,” Annabeth said after a few more minutes, “I’ve gotta clean my bathroom.”
Annabeth pulled herself free of her daughters, who did not keep cuddling each other, but parted to the other sides of the couch.
Annabeth had barely started wiping down the tub when she was interrupted.
“Mama,” Rosie said, her Minnie Mouse in her hands. “Cuddles?”
Annabeth looked at her. “You want cuddles now?”
Rosie nodded. “Just us cuddles?”
“Just you and me?” Annabeth asked, picking her up. Rosie was getting big now, almost three years old, but Annabeth was determined to be able to hold her last baby for as long as possible.
Rosie snuggled into Annabeth’s shoulder. “Just us,” she confirmed.
“Okay, we can cuddle for five minutes, and then Mommy has to keep cleaning,” Annabeth said.
“Can we use the comfy blanket?” Rosie asked.
The comfy blanket was Percy and Annabeth’s weighted blanket, which the youngest two were still too little to use on their own.
“Sure, baby,” Annabeth said. She got them both snugly under the weighted blanket, and only then realized her error. Rosie had always been the best, easiest sleeper of her girls. The Minnie Mouse lovey in hand was a sure sign of nap time, and the weighted blanket put Rosie to sleep right away, all cuddled up on Annabeth. She’d been nap trapped.
Annabeth was impressed with Rosie’s plan. No one would bother them, because no one wanted to get roped into cleaning with mama, but also, what kind of mama could deny a cuddle request? Not Annabeth, that was for sure.
Well, it was better than cleaning the bathroom.
Annabeth pulled Rosie in nice and tight and listened to her little girl’s gentle breathing, until Annabeth also dozed off.
Disney World
Rosie was gripping Percy’s hair like she was Ratatouille, and he was cooking. Daddy’s shoulders had already become the best place for her and Olivia to hang out so far this Disney trip, besides in the stroller.
Rosie had been going around since check-in showing off her big blue button that said “It’s my birthday!” Really, it wouldn’t be her third birthday for a few more weeks, but she, Percy, and Sophia (whose birthday was three weeks ago), each got one. Everyone else got orange “First Visit” buttons.
It was their first day in Magic Kingdom after spending their check-in day at Epcot. Annabeth had dressed Rosie up as Minnie Mouse in a red polka dot dress, with her black hair tied up in two space buns to look like ears.
After some family photos in front of the castle, they got into their first line, right on Main Street for something really important.
The older girls knew what was going on, but the nearly-three-year-old had no idea. Percy kept her perched on his shoulders until she started to squirm. Percy took the hint and set her down. On her feet, Rosie just kept twirling around in her red polka dot Minnie Mouse dress, rambling about princesses, while the other girls planned what rides they wanted to do and when.
Finally, the doors opened, and Percy took her hand as they walked forward into the room.
“Rosie, who is that?” Percy asked her. Annabeth had her phone out to record, and they all hoped Rosie didn’t start screaming in fear.
“Minnie!” The little girl took off towards her favorite plush-come-to-life. Minnie Mouse knelt down and let the toddler crash into her with a big hug. Rosie held onto the character for a good, long hug.
“You’re her favorite,” Annabeth told the character. Minnie showed her appreciation by putting her gloved hands over her mouth.
Rosie started bouncing in front of Minnie, showing off their matching skirts, and Minnie made some gestures to compliment Rosie’s dress.
“Want to show her your Minnie Mouse?” Percy asked, taking Rosie’s favorite toy out of his backpack. The girls were supposed to leave their loveys in the hotel room so nothing got lost, but they needed this one for the picture.
Rosie ran over to grab her favorite toy, before she willingly handed it over to the character. Minnie pointed at the toy excitedly, and then she gave it a big hug before returning it to Rosie.
They managed to get Rosie to settle enough for a big family picture, and a few of just Mom, Dad, Rosie, and Minnie.
“Say bye bye to Minnie Mouse,” Percy said.
“Bye bye,” Rosie said. “See you later!”
Minnie Mouse blew her kisses.
When they were outside, Rosie looked up at Percy, very seriously.
“Disney World is … done now?” Rosie asked.
“No baby, we’ve still got seven more days,” Percy said.
Rosie’s eyes went wide. “Whoa,” was all she said.
“Minnie Mouse is going to be in the parade later,” Sophia told her sister. Rosie didn’t reply, a little overwhelmed; she just reached up and took Sophia’s hand, and walked back into the Florida sun, obviously pondering what else there could be, if the trip had already peaked.
~
There were about nine hours between when Rosie was born and when she met her sisters, and she's been trying to rediscover the peace of those nine hours ever since.
The Minnie Mouse toy is the one Nella picked out for her when she was a baby.
Also, I know the rat's name is not Ratatouille, but I don't think Percy knows that.

Okay, now l have thoughts about baby Rumi's life. This AU has me in a chokehold
Did she just grow up with Celine the first few years until Sally apeared (her mom's relative? girlfriend in High school??) right after giving birth to Percy and went "My kid now. I am going to look at her in the eye and love all of her so hard"? Did she always live with them until Celine apeared and took her for demon hunting purposes (she went so she can send money to Mommy and Percy)? Do Zoey and her bond over American fast food and poke Mira for her accent when speaking english?
Okay okay okay okay take two because tumblr ate the first one
So since Huntrix have been massively popular for at least several years (six? I think they said they won five idol awards before the one in canon but I cannot be bothered to pull the movie back up to check) and the girls give more early twenties than teen energy to me I would put them at ~23 when Percy is sixteen.
I see Sally and Rumi’s mom as distant relatives and Rumi’s mom specifically wanting to keep Celine as far from Ruminas possible so she gives Sally, at like barely 18, full custody. Celine comes a bit later to start the next gen of hunters and her and Sally have lasting beef but with Percy also being there and Gabe around she isnt in a place to protect Rumi and that kills her. Rumi of course wanted to protect Sally and Percy so she goes anyway.
Zoey and Rumi definitely bond though they also poke fun at each other for east coast/west coast isms.

Exactly!! A little comment on his supposed "lack of empathy"–
So, empathy is the emotional support you offer someone regarding the situation they're in, right? And so in order to offer proper empathy, you need to learn the situation they're in first, right?
And Percy, I wouldn't say he is always but at least usually empathetic once he learns his friends' issues (Thalia's fear of height, Nico leaving camp to find more about his family, Grover's desperation of finding Pan, etc etc). But with Annabeth and Luke... he never really got to know the situation she was in except for that Luke was her former friend/crush who betrayed her, hurt her, manipulated her more than once but she was still defending him for some bizzare reasons. It wasn't until after Silena's death did he finally know what was really bothering Annabeth. Here's a brief scene of his reaction to everything:
Tumblr media
While he certainly didn't give the most empathetic comments, they don't look unempathetic to me either. And not to mention this scene happens right before the final battle and they don't have enough time for a heart-to-heart. Again he should have done more to help Annabeth, but I wouldn't say him not dealing with her emotions properly is because of his lack of empathy.
Tumblr media
And THANK YOU for saying this! It's like sometimes people are completely incapable of understanding them both like how?? It's just critical thinking?? It's not that hard???
I swear if I saw one more post about how Annabeth was acting like a bitch in botl/tlo and they didn't treat each other well and therefore shouldn't be together I'd seriously start to strangle people 🙄 Like, it's not a war. It's not a competition. We don't need to take sides. We don't need to compare who did more wrong and we especially don't need to make stuff up while conveniently forgetting all the sweet things they'd done for each other during that period just to make one of them look worse than the other. I mean it's not like I can stop people from doing that or anything, it's just... really pointless and unnecessary.
Annabeth and Percy have long been over this. And we are readers/grown-ups who should know better, so yeah... I don't know. I don't want to and I certainly don't have the right to tell people what to do so... yeah I'm going to stop here.
Friendly reminder that Percy did attempt to make Annabeth feel better about the whole mess with Luke:
Tumblr media
And he literally talked back to Hermes to defend Annabeth (btw Hermes was such a jerk, blaming what happened to Luke on Annabeth like this😡):
Tumblr media
And also he tried to keep Annabeth away from Luke because he was worried that Luke would trick/manipulate her, which Luke definitely had done, multiple times:
Tumblr media
Like, Percy was trying, guys. Maybe not hard enough and maybe not exactly in the right ways, but he definitely tried. And him not knowing how to deal with Annabeth's struggles about Luke properly was probably because he didn't know what the heck was going on, he didn't know Annabeth's history with Luke and he didn't know that Luke came to her before botl. And Annabeth, the only person who could fill him in on that, made it pretty clear that she didn't want to talk about Luke:
Tumblr media
I mean... yeah, I'd be hella confused and frustrated if I were in his situation where my best friend was so hung up on a guy who kept hurting her while she wouldn't tell me why she was struggling so hard to let go of him and would probably break down if I tried to even just bring up that guy's name. (But still, he could have found other ways to be there for her and he didn't because he was also caught up in his own feelings. I wouldn't defend him over that.)
I'm just saying that Annabeth having complex feelings about Luke and Percy not knowing what to do about it are both understandable and reasonable. I know they were not the nicest to each other during that period but they were not that bad. They cared. They never stopped caring. They were just equally bad at communicating and that's normal, even kinda expected for a pair of struggling teenagers. Just speaking for myself, I as an adult don't want to be too hard on kids who are like 10 years younger but have been through so much more than me 😢

I will never get over the fact that rick riordan's favorite way of uplifting other characters is to tear percy jackson down
#he does this A Lot#and this is no hate to those characters. i love them#i just think they deserve better than “ur great bc u do x better than percy”#like it. always. comes down to what someone did or didnt do in comparison to percy and how it makes them Better#ex: leo and calypso#nico and bob#jason and apollo#jason and nico.. i could go on#its even worse when percy's not even in character in half these scenarios. they feel like someone else's interpretation of his character#that doesnt understand him at all post pjo lol#or when the text demonizes him. like yea ur a bad person for not checking in on a titan that was set on killing u before u wiped his memory#ur a bad person bc u didnt check in on calypso even tho ur the one who made the gods swear an oath to release her and then got kidnapped#it happens even with percabeth's new characterization in the marketing trilogy#percy just cant have his moments anymore bc the only way rr can have other characters shine is by tearing percys down#and they ALL deserve better than that.#he also started doing this with his looks if we're being honest.#everyone is Hot and Perfect but percy cant have muscles in the marketing trilogy .. even tho hes on the swim team and clearly fit#hes not allowed to rest or make mistakes bc it makes him a shitty person and hero#his moments get misconstructed and turned into something else (calypso being his biggest what if and asking for her to be set free#-> ur just like every other hero that left her heartbroken)#sometimes i also feel like hes the only one who gets held accountable and cant escape his imperfect moments#no one else's mistakes get repeatedly brought up as much as percy's#like atp i feel like hes held more accountable than the gods lmfao (toa! apollo not counted obv)#whatever tho#every character has their flaws but they dont always get *presented* as flaws. except for percy's tho he's the Bad Guy for his#pjo#pjo hoo toa#percy jackson#cotg#wottg

the treatment of the big three daughters is absolutely pitiful. thalia grace being pushed out of the narrative after pjo so percy can have the spotlight (when they both had SOLID rivalry that rick did better than jason/percy rivalry) bianca being killed off (for nico's internal turmoil, which I understand, but we should've gotten more of her), hazel not really getting her 'op' moment apart from controlling the mist that one time in boo. and we NEEDED a hidden daughter of neptune, it would've been such a cool addition, to see how different their powers would be from e/o. maybe she has better control over ice? or maybe the earth? since neptune is an earth and water god. and we know that hazel mentioned that the romans don't use navy, so the daughter's water control could have been very stagnant, and perhaps the appearance of percy would help her develop that aspect of her abilities, and maybe percy could learn something HE'S not used to (like ice, earth quakes? he's done that a little but not so much, or maybe she can control the moisture and minerals from soils in a way she can shape and manipulate the soil to her liking, and supply the energy to humans?) from her.

annabeth not kissing percy before the last olympian battle not because she was fondly exasperated, but because the last time she kissed him before a battle she thought he died, he was gone from her life, and it was the scariest time she'd experienced, the thought that percy was gone forever. she couldn't give him a kiss before the battle because what if it happened again? what if this time, he didn't come back to her?

i wish annabeth held more and was able to express more seething rage bc i feel like it would truly elevate her character and i know she has the capacity for it
like i just want her to break some shit and i want her to be fiercely protective and i want her to physically harm people
the only moment i can really think of her doing that is the scene where she punches percy’s bully but when i went back to read that i realised how much it’s really not looked into by rick
for some reason i had it in my head that it was a big moment where annabeth looked like this actual crazy badass who beat tf outta this kid for bullying percy and tho she does look like a badass bro hit him once told him to fuck off and dipped i wanted her to like BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF HIM
annabeth had followed percy all day watched every instance where percy was bullied and just punched him once and walked away ?? nah my annabeth chase would’ve had percy pulling her off him she does not care that he’s mortal she will actually kill him
where’s the feral child on the streets ?? where did she go i want her back
feral abandoned and raised by wolves jason grace ?? more like feral run away and raised by teens annabeth chase
i want her to punch more people please and probably scream a little

having thoughts and feelings about perc’ahlia and their could-be-but-would-never-allow-the-other-to-destroy-themselves-enough-to-actually-become-the-briarwoods parallel/foilism. particularly with vex and delilah and potential places this season might go but also just vex’s “it’s like i’m a bad omen” and the fact that like. vex has full awareness of her feelings for percy and alludes to them to him. but then after she has sex with him it is so so compelling to me that vex is like. this is all i can have with him and i’ll take just this even if maybe it’s flying too close to the sun. and something something the shot of delilah embracing sylas after she’s brought him back, looking over his shoulder into a mirror where it looks like she isn’t holding anything at all and just . god. the like oppositional threads of delilah refusing to lose sylas and holding on tight at any cost and vex holding herself so far from percy to deny the pain that would come with losing/hurting him and the like. venn diagram cross over of something is lost anyway.

big idea!!! what if instead of annabeth falling off the cliff with the manticore!! the manticore drags her to the edge of the cliff so it doesn't fall alone!! and percy sees what's happening!! and wills a nearby water source to take hold of her hand!! because he wants to prove himself as a big three kid!! but the water does not catch her in time!! and percy has to watch annabeth fall into what looks like a dark and bottomless pit!!!

Percy meeting Nico and realizing that he and Hazel are siblings. Suddenly there's this. Discomfort. And... guilt? He doesn't know why. But as the quest begins and the trio battle through perils, every time Hazel faces down a threat, no matter how trivial, his nervous system goes into overdrive.
I can't fail Nico again, he thinks each time. But he doesn't know why. Can't recall the memories that accompany the sense of fear and shame bubbling up from inside him.
He wonders if this is why Nico lied. Did he fail him? Betray the poor kid? Is that why Nico would rather pretend they don't know each other? What did he do? What does it have to do with Hazel? He doesn't know. But. Surely, he thinks, if he keeps Hazel safe, delivers her to Nico in one piece, then they'll be square this time. The stubborn guilt from whatever he didn't do last time will go away.

should be sleeping but im up thinking about ethan and how he wanted to know the love of a mother. im up thinking of his devotion to her. im up thinking about how he wanted the gods to respect her. thinking that if his mother had her own cabin, he would've been claimed sooner and not had to reside in a crowded cabin full of unclaimed and unwanted kids. i'm thinking of him trusting what his mother told him enough to let her take his eye so that he could one day gain her the respect he felt she deserved. what must it be like to go to the lengths he did, to defend her name in the way he did, despite never really knowing her
