ever since i found out that highway gothic (typeface commissioned for use in the american highways) is optimized for legibility with just a brief glance at high speeds i cannot stop thinking abt how easily readable it is. like my eyesight isn't like immaculate or anything so i can sometimes have a hard time reading fine print but even when the roadsigns are kind of blurry they're still pretty easy to read
#the worm speaks#they use highway gothic in taiwan for english street signs too which makes sense#i never paid much attn to the highway/street fonts in america until i was in taiwan n star sent me the wikipedia page#listing out all the typefaces in use on roadsigns around the world n i was HOPING it would tell me the name of the typeface#for the cn signs in taiwan since it was such a nice cn font.... but no it didn't....#but i did pay attn to the english signs there too n now that i'm looking at the ones in america i'm like. yeah that's the same one#it's also funny bc i looked at the highway signs there n Suspected they were the same bc the numbers looked the same and i was RIGHT#easily one of my Top Ten Most Useless Niche Skills Ever#others of which include 'knowing if a rubber band will snap quickly after stretching it once' (for obvious reasons)#'knowing the quality of a sheet of paper just by touching it' and 'can get full combos on rhythm games whilst walking around'#(the latter is bc i played mallet percussion in marching band so i had to obviously track my place in the bloc whilst playing)

gilbert l. bailey ii and will roland as phil filmore and orville wingate performing "lucky day" from summer stock
#fancy properly giffing....formatting titles....#got a gif or two above 9mb in there so we can all hold hands and hope that works out. watch the video#which is this basically each beat of save when they space out a minute just at the end lol#speaking of beats. as per the nature of gifs this lacks music; singing#& the illustrative percussion of phil getting a full rhythm ft. bass(? tenor) drum then orville's little metronome woodblock tocktocktock#[jeremy ''flossing''] all over again#it's all them being Lively and Delighting in each other's being thusly and i love that#patron saints for all the besties out here: being lively; delightful; gay; not getting married; evading a parent; doing theatre/music#and so much more. what aren't they. what can't they do & be models for.#summer stock#orvphil#will roland#gilbert l. bailey ii#orville wingate#phil filmore

Song of the Day: August 2
“Weapon" by Grant
#song of the day#so so so so sleepy#spent most of my energy today worrying about DMV policies and how to get my brother a federally-recognized Real ID thing#gonna involve hopefully only two mild lies and one outright forgery#better than a decade ago when I had to bring three forgeries to the social security office#sometimes I think about how much easier it would've been to steal fifty identities from my old job#than it currently is to prove one real one for my brother#ah well. we do persevere#I'm whining mostly because I'm so tired. always forget how sleepy EDM makes me#it's the nice rhythms I think. like my train sounds. percussion puts me right to sleep#'when they say I'm a machine gun / I take it as a compliment / honey you should know / I can be your weapon / I can be your weapon'

This has nothing to do with monsters or robots, but I went antiquing and found a PERFECT washboard for such a low price. And I'm just very excited because I've had washboard on my weird little percussion instrument learning list for a little bit now and I'm so giddy For anyone wondering, but how the hell does one play a washboard?
Here's one player who is an absolutely fabulous example!
youtube
It's so silly, it's so fun, it is so open to how the player expresses themself! UGH so excited to learn it \^o^/

#I know that this is echoing an Elvis song#but for some reason#my brain just refuses to tell me which one#anyway#it’s an amazing song by itself#Charlie’s drumming is spectacular#and the way it interacts with Keith’s percussive rhythm guitar (which is. against the grain#really following the drums until the very end. when they abruptly flip) and his singing is something special#I wish they had given this another chance#it needs a little work lyrically but it’s just got that indescribable it which is the core of a good piece of music#the rolling stones#charlie watts#keith richards#old married band#voodoo lounge#lyrics
