#I know that this is echoing an Elvis song#but for some reason#my brain just refuses to tell me which one#anyway#it’s an amazing song by itself#Charlie’s drumming is spectacular#and the way it interacts with Keith’s percussive rhythm guitar (which is. against the grain#really following the drums until the very end. when they abruptly flip) and his singing is something special#I wish they had given this another chance#it needs a little work lyrically but it’s just got that indescribable it which is the core of a good piece of music#the rolling stones#charlie watts#keith richards#old married band#voodoo lounge#lyrics

HAPPY LONDON N1 YALL!!! i can just feel this run of shows is going to be CRAZY. also if you haven’t realized hi it’s me juli titsthedamnseason and yes even under yet another new url i am hosting the surprise song game! the rules are simple: leave your guesses in the tags or replies and if you’re right i will give you a shoutout <3
i’m personally about to give the worst guesses ever but i already submitted them to mastermind so i feel like i have to stick with it. so im going imgonnagetyouback / better than revenge and robin / never grow up i definitely should be going with a london song or the black dog but hey. whatever
#i’ve won a lot lately anyway i can take a back seat now#also i really hope when she does robin it’s just by itself tbh#i’m such a mashup hater i’m sorry i don’t know why im like this#when i watch the performances they’re always amazing i don’t know why i insist on this negative mindset#I JUST WANT EACH SONG TO HAVE ITS MOMENT OKAY#also if now is when she plays the albatross and i don’t guess it that will be a double sting#mine#taylor swift#surprise song game#anyway i’m literally THRILLED to hear so long london on piano at some point in the next few days#i just hope it isn’t tomorrow because i AM a truther#i just felt these guesses in my bones and if she doesn’t play so long london n1 i plan on guessing it every night until she does#as well as the black dog#london boy….idk about that one though haha i guess we’ll see#also yes both my guesses are ttpd / speak now mashups. i didn’t plan this but alas

Something that The Amazing Devil does so beautiful is that even though a lot of their songs are very wordy they don't rush or skip over the rests in-between. And my favorite examples of this are Elsa's Song and Old Witch Sleep/Good Man Grace, because in old with/good man the beggining is so nice because they put so much pauses between each phrase and even parts like the "Sleep now, oh, she said" there is this smallest rest between the "Now" and "Oh" and it's so subtle but if you don't do that rest it's very very noticeable because your just slurring these two (almost) very short phrases of their own. Then in Elsa's Song l love how the tempo and when they come in, is almost dragging, they are coming in at the very last second of the beat and it makes the tone of the song so so so good
#gosh i could go on#i had to write this down because i was writing a fanfic and listening to them but all this wouldn't get out of my head#virus rambling#the amazing devil#i dont know it anyone has ever played/performed the lakme Flowers Duet#but it reminds me of Elsa's song in a complete opposite manner because that one you have to take the quickest breath of a rest#and a retake but the piece itself sounds very slow but playing it is not slow at all#Elsa's song gives that same dynamic effect and iwbxjshdjxbjxdjchshbxkxfjdhsg#okay im done back to fanfic writing

the way that diff languages sound r so fascinating they're all different and all so vivid
#russian is like the surface of a feather like it's light but not exactly “soft” but still very delicate#german is . cute ? i think it's adorable . it has a lot of momentum it makes u wanna talk fast and talk a lot#like it's squishy . sleek surface w a soft inside#thai is like song . it's like interprative dance or maybe a trust-fall . everything follows from the previous thing#it feels like a little fairy flying up and letting itself fall and flying up again and so on (for fun). its so beautiful but also playful#mandarin chinese is like . idk why but it gives me the same vibe the concept of Observation does . like to read and to see and absorb#and then to translate that into smth else . like . imagine a poet people watching or an artist preparing a canvas w practiced hands. thats#the vibe. soft and elegant and musical but like...in a way that feels lived-in. arabic feels wise ? like music or poetry u read#and feel nothing about then years later u stumble on and it applies to everything in ur life. that kind of vibe. like it knows more than u#and itll make sure ur heart and soul grows as big as its lexicon . polish is like snowflakes falling . it has the feeling of complexity and#elegance but it's also so so light and slippery and...maybe not elusive but the feeling of losing a dance partner in a waltz ? like fun and#light but also an underlying elegance and somberness still . turkish is like the feeling when u get a text from ur crush#and your heart tightens and you cant tell if it's really painful or really amazing . it feels like unrequited love . or a caress#or making out with someone when you know its the last time you'll see them. its beautiful in a yearning longing way#korean is like joking around w ur friends and you've stayed up until like almost 5 AM and youre so delirious that everything is funny#and ur speaking kind of lightly and openly and everything you say holds a lot of weight and doesnt matter at all. you laugh at everything#and youre practically talking in inside jokes and watching the sunrise together . one of them hits u on the shoulder lovingly. ur by a fire#yoruba feels like the metatheory of the matatheory . abstraction until it circles back to intuition or maybe#it feels like plotting the route of a comet or maybe like the soft warm whirr of statistics. trying to verbalise beauty somehow#when you know the best thing you can show it is by telling everyone just look!! look at the sky just look!#anyway yh i think i could do this for every language ever tbh

gangle's lament
gangle's expressing herself in the only real way she can anymore, away from all ears. at least... that's what she thinks.
really toying around with the gangle being multilingual, but not knowing how or why. i mean, she is the embodiment of drama and theater, isnt she? it would make sense for her to have things like greek, latin, and some other romance languages under her belt.
however i'd like to think it goes deeper than that. you see, she cant exactly explain or translate what she's saying anyone. as in, she doesn't know how. she knows what she's saying, but she can't translate nor teach it.
another thing to add onto the list of "being listened to but not heard".
this scene itself is more of a concept than anything, but still important. i wouldn't call the scene itself cannon exactly.
(got the room inspo from @//0104-vkta's "vent art" comic of gangle. go check their stuff out if you haven't already!)

Was listening to music last night and thought of some songs that could (possibly) fit laughingstock! the ones that came to mind were "Everybody loves somebody" by Dean Martin, "I've got a feeling I'm falling" by Annette Hanshaw and "I wanna be loved by you" by Marilyn Monroe (pretty random? yes) I was wondering your opinion about them and what songs do you think would fit them! :)
stunning wonderful i can Especially dig the second one in relation to them - i can very much see Howdy singing it to himself!
#the chipper tunes definitely add to the Vibes#even if the song itself is handwavey! which! i think you got some good choices here#ive added all three to my Playlist!#i like that they're all very Pining...#can easily be read as a 'we cant but i wanna' thing yk?#man. period-accurate human au secret lovers laughingstock can i get a yeehaw#dont take that seriously#i am Not down to do that kind of research rn...#rambles from the bog#anyway songs i think fit them...#at present! not many!#ummm but there is:#i want you to want me by cheap trick / you make me feel so young by frank sinatra#fair by the amazing devil / dandelions by ruth b / strawberry mentos by leanna firestone#i wanna be your lover by the cascades#yeah <3

some very very quick costume shorthands!
#&juliet#had the absolute luck of watching this live the other night and it was. truly amazing!!! aaah#rough character designs for the younger leads (excluding like the Grown adult duos..) because?? idk#this is how it always starts. once the character designs start getting simplified like this that's when it all begins#which is hmmm timing but i really can't shut up about this musical it was so so fun. absolute vibes and energy#made me laugh and cry and was such an Experience. i adore them all but may specifically made me sob at some parts dfjkldfh#lots of thoughts! but one of the favs is how they wrote it so the existing songs and actions fit so well.#like in a rhyming bit they had frankie accept a drink and then the song was like ''drink in hand'' and i was all !!!!!!#also maybe it's local censorship? but there wasn't the kisses.. they replaced it w kissing hands and then holding hands#which is like a cute nod to the ''hand to hand holy palmers kiss' or smth but also maybe two guys doing that would not have made it past :/#oh my god i. the way rnj parallels the shakespeare duo... whdskjfhgh. may + not being a Girl kdjhgf. frankie and may. aaagh.#angelique being so so badass. i . the speech about Gender by anne and the Proposal by angelique both made the whole theatre cheer love that#also rotating stage lives in my mind rent free i ADORE the set holy moly.. also also the actors were so good. also the Projections.#also the music and costumes and special effects and aerial moments. and the ensemble. and the choreo#also the cast is so talented. and pretty. and the whole confidence part vs the vulnerability of some bits... whshjfgjkl. hhh#im just listing stuff now but it was so vibes. what an experience ever. it's also shot me directly into 14-years-old again so#spent the morning alone vibing to the soundtrack intensely... i just... sometimes things hold special places in your heart idk!!!#i don't know what to do with these designs though... like the show is such a lovely Spectacle but also idk where to branch out by myself no#there's so much to Absorb again and again. i get the feeling any true work from this i would do in a form of an animatic though.. oops#tldr? 1. &juliet very good just as itself 2. we have History 3. i got to see it live which always propels me into bonkers over musicals!#so so rough but i needed to get smth out and . whatever. an art blog is an art blog. back to hiatus now i think#<reminder to myself: this is essentially an artchive.. there's no quality control if you don't want it! have fun!! ily>

it’s so hard being a theatre kid and trying to explain that ben platt is genuinely so talented and he was great in dear evan hansen on broadway but he was nepo babied into the role in the movie when he did not deserve it and now that’s how people know his name
#also the movie was so bad but that’s beside the point#also dear evan hansen in general does not deserve the praise it gets bc the musical itself is extremely mid#but again. not the point#the point is that ben platt is a good singer and actor in roles that he deserves#he was sobbing his eyes out onstage 8 times a week in deh while singing the most difficult song in the show#but onstage talent does not always translate to onscreen talent#anyways i saw him in parade last year and he was fucking amazing#because he was playing an adult in a role that he was fit for onstage#anyways rhats my white boy rant of the day#i need to do more theatre discourse on tumblr i have so many opinions

can we actually take a moment and remember swan upon leda? can we actually shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down and think about our lord and savior swan upon leda because i'm tired of doing it alone every single day guys
#the title itself!!! THE FUCKING TITLE#swan UPON leda#god he's an actual genius THANK U HOZIER SO FUCKING MUCH#i hate how that myth is portrayed and received and objectified bc they make it out to be such a funny little chuckle story like 'hahaha led#is SO easy that she fell for a swan isn't that actually the funniest thing you've ever heard omg like women are literally so easy to please#whatever whatever blahblahblah yes that's fucking hilarious matthew thank u SO much for that absolutely fascinating commentary on a women#getting raped by a god really truly an amazing insight into ur pea fucking brain#like fuck sorry but i just absolutely despises how this myth is made out to be and i remember learning abt it in class and being literally#nauseated bc guess fucking what it's literally not hard to understand wtf is happening and while u r laughing away about i repeat a WOMEN#getting RAPED some fucking of us have brain enough to be mortified#jesus ANYWAY#hozier dropped that song after roe v wade was over turned and i just i love him so fucking much he cares SO MUCH and before anything else#he's an activist and he actually gives a shit about women's rights and he dropped this song as a comfort as something to hold onto but also#as a social commentary and he linked charities and resources to help women and keep them safe and this song just means everything to me#bc greek mythology often gets reduced to children stories bc most ppl know myths from children books and obviously a book for kids not gonn#outloud say the word rape or even imply that that's what's happening and that's fine ig but bc so many ppl know it from there it gets#reduces to a joke and a raped women gets ridiculed but hozier actually took one of the few poems about leda being raped and it being a rape#at all and made it into a song during a time that was so traumatizing for ever afab person in the world basically and it just says 'i see#you i see what you're going through and i'm listening and i actually care and i want to help you' and he's helping by writing a song yes bc#he's spreading the word that way bc that's how movements are spread and people listen to him when he's singing and that's how he helps and#i did i mention that i love him? bc i'd actually do anything for him and to meet him and tell him how much he fucking means to me#the line that always gets me is 'a crying CHILD pushes a CHILD into the night' bc yes she was a fucking child who had to deliver 4 KIDS BC#AN ASSHOLE DECIDED SHE WAS PRETTY ENOUGH TO FUCK and nobody ever cares that she was just a child and her child helen was just a child when#she was abducted and raped and impregnated (JUST LIKE HER MOTHER) by theseus a supposed great hero and im genuinely sick she was just a#child like so many women or girls in greek mythology and ik it was a different time back then or wtv but they were just GIRLS and nobody#cared about that or cares now. but this song does.#bc of course it does it's hozier.#hozier#swan upon leda

somethings off to me about mcr fans who don’t like fob much but are SUPER into petekey
#i think it’s why a lot of fob mains get resentful of petekey jokes real quickly#of course you think every songs about your bassist you only listen to 4 fall out boy songs#but also it leads them to ignore the actually really funny parts of the lore#like all of the stuff that has to do with waterparks (band) is much funnier than anything from the summer itself#(the amazing nm sunset post is rumoured to be the origin of waterparks band name and mikey was at r&l 2016 bc he was filling in for geoff)#but yeah. it’s. a thing i’m not fond of#fall out boy#my chemical romance#petekey

Been listening to new musicals today and for a show called Two Strangers (carry a cake across New York) you’d think there’d be more comedy but every single song is so freaking dramatic and the rhymes suck 90% of the time like I’m sorry but this is like 3 or 4/10 musical at best, every song except the opening is trying to be the most heart wrenching song of the show (except for the opening number) and does it such a disservice
I will say there is one really good song and that was About To Go In but besides that one they’re all really forgettable
#Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)#musicals#theatre#musica theatre#musical#AND ANOTHER THING#the opening number is legitimately pretty funny#like the idea for the song and some of the delivery is clearly meant to draw out laughs#like it’s a British dude singing about how amazing NYC is with a TON of naivety and wrong cultural references#and smack dab in the middle of song he’s like My Dad Left and it never picks up after that#god it’s like a worse version of ordinary days#relistening to the opening number and yeah no#it takes itself SO seriously

man hot mulligan makes some absolute bangers for ppl with mental issues and shitty parents
#it's me im calling myself out here lol#like. they sound amazing even without rlly listening to the lyrics (which is kinda hard bc my auditory processing issues and the screaming)#but then I'll pull up the lyrics and be like oh. oh fuck. oh they made this song specifically to target me huh#like. kinda similar to spanish love songs where the music itself sounds great until you hear the lyrics and now it's emotionally devastating#i know the pit is gonna go hard bc how could it not but also i really hope it goes hard bc im gonna be having the time of my life in there#hot mulligan#mine

I saw The man of Maisinicu yesterday, and man. What a movie.
Maybe it's because I don't usually watch these type of films, where people talk uninterrupted for several minutes without a single cut, or maybe it's just a style of filmmaking that isn't really used anymore, but the natural yet still gripping acting is incredible.
Everyone holds the same high standard throughout the movie, with the actor playing the titular man from Maisinicu rightfully winning the price for best actor at the soviet film festival when it came out.
The story itself is equally amazing. It's a dramatisation of what happened to Alberto Delgado y Delgado, a man that infiltrated the counter-revolutionaries of Cuba during the 60's, beginning with his death by the very same people.
The story is told non-linearly but very clearly as every witness report slowly builds up to the final scene, showing how Alberto had to work quite hard to maintain his facade towards both sides while doing his part to protect the revolution.
I have to say, this movie does a great job at gripping you. Even though you know everyone is a horrible criminal, you end up hoping they succeed with their escapes from the country, partially because you can't help sharing their worries and joys, partially beacuse you worry for Alberto himself. "If he doesn't pull of this action, they'll start to doubt him, they might kill him". It's a thought that returns several times, until you reach the tragic end.
The movie is in black and white, but the filmography is impeccable. It pans around a scene for several seconds before an actor steps in, night scenes are perfectly clear despite the darkness engulfing everyone, they know how to frame a scene to give it a friendly atmosphere, and they know how to switch it to turn it into a threatening one.
You should watch The man from Maisinicu. It's a good movie.
#My posts#It's more than 50 years old but still holds up so well#The practical effects too! I didn't even think to mention them!#All this produced by Cuba itself during the 70's; which means every single contra is played by a revolutionary#(Maybe obvious but still. Funny)#I liked the old-film quality of it as well. The lines that blink in and out ut for a millisecond (the audio was very good though. No noise)#You can find the movie on youtube: one in not-so-good quality and another in a better one#But neither show the CREDIT SEQUENCE at the start with Silvio Rodriguez amazing song and it's absolutely OBLIGATORY you hear it#to get the right experience#I'll ask the organizers if they can send me the file (theirs even have subtitles in english!)#The man of Maisinicú
