The Roommate Program (PT 1/?)

ITS FINALLY DONE….well kinda there more to it but originally i wanted this out on my birthday but life happen…and here we are 3 days later with this 🎉 tada 🎉.

This is a beginning of my Bill x Reader (Self Insert) story. There still more to be told so just you wait!

Warnings: None! Bill Cipher

The Roommate Program is a new project set up by Theraprism in the hope of inspiring their patients into redemption by giving them an outside support system. First, they start as Pen Pals who, after being approved by their therapist, start the move-in process while still attending therapy 3 days out of the week.

This means they are housed at the Therapism for 3 days and stay with their roommate for 4. They have no access to their powers through monitor bracelets.

The penpal picking procedure is very strict on both sides. The Theraprism hand picks each pen pal with one other. An interview process is required for participants who are looking to be a part of the program.

Bill didn’t get access to the program until he got off maximum security 5 years later after the Book of Bill incident. Once he heard about the program he was quick to sign up in the hope he would get some idiot to get him out of this smiling cage.

He lied like a serial cheater on his application form. Which led to him getting unapproved the first time around. He had to reapply with a counselor assistant a couple of months later. It took a while before he managed to get a match.

So the day his counselor handed him an envelope saying that he’s now a proud triangle to have his first pen pal.

A surge of genuine excitement ran through his body for all the wrong reasons. If it wasn’t for this to be his attempt at an escape plan he would’ve forgotten about it.

The letter for boring to him it felt like he was reading someone's job resume! It was an introduction of who you were, what dimension you were from, and you were excited to be his pen pal and maybe his soon-to-be housemate. Heck, you even sent him a gift! A Silly Straw in the shape of a star!

To him, You sounded gullible enough to “befriend”. So, without much time to waste he grabbed and piece of paper and pen then started to write back.

FLUFFBRUARY 6 - PENPALS / PASSING NOTES / TEXTING

Warden, if it is really you, tell me what the working title of my thesis was.

Camilla places a pen and the paper with these words on the table next to the skeletal hand. Harrowhark had said that the Warden was inside the hand and she had worked out some basic communication with it, but she needs to know for sure. She needs to know it was him.

The way the hand holds the pen is achingly familiar, but she tries not to react until it finishes writing.

‘Reasons the Warden needs to exercise’

She smiles, a deceptively small one for the emotions that she is feeling. The weight that had been pressing down on her for months finally lets up and she can breathe properly for the first time since he died. He is in there. He isn’t completely gone.

The hand—Palamades!—continues writing.

I don’t dispute your findings, but I do think the applications are less wide than you argued. Specifically as they related to me.

She has never been so glad to hear an old argument. Her thesis had involved analyzing fifty years of data on health outcomes for necromancers based on fitness level, and an early draft had taken the form of a persuasive essay arguing why he should let her develop a workout routine for him. Efforts had been unsuccessful.

She knows she should be trying to discuss her situation with Blood of Eden, or to figure out next steps to get him into a body so she can hug him again. But that can come later. Now, she needs to just talk to him.

Hmm, you didn't work out. Now look at you.

Palamedes taps a skeletal finger on the table and she can imagine him—whole and undamaged—in front of her. He would laugh his beautiful laugh, full of enthusiasm and good humor. He would tease her back, poking fun at each other until they were both grinning and giggling.

You’ll have to teach me some hand exercises.

She laughs out loud—just an involuntary sudden exhale out of her nose, but unmistakably a laugh. It might be the first time she has laughed since that horrible day.

I missed you, Warden.

Oh, also I need to fill out an application for the one interview I have tomorrow, which I'm also going to go do after this episode of Trailer Park Boys.

Pretty productive day.

my autumn will be beautiful, i think, i hope. changes in motion.

i have already breathed a sigh of relief for what's already happened.

i handed in my notice at a place i've worked part-time for years (been tempted to ever since they rejected my redundancy application last year - the payment of which would have sustained me for a year). i have to work another seven weeks, or until they find a replacement.

& i handed in my third draft of the play, with recording dates already set in january, and a gradual withdrawal of myself (in the best way possible) to make space for the director and actors.

ahead of me, i have an overnight wild-camp in the new forest, a two-day court case trial (the drama, and the closure), a couple of poetry gigs, more evenings at the cinema (and the serene cycles home), selling old clothes and giving away momentos that don't hold their power anymore, savouring the time with daisy, endeavouring to make H feel loved and inspired every morning.

i have a residency in november in the middle of nowhere, to start writing my novel, a date to build towards, with outlines and decisions made.

and i have a new penpal. my ex of seven years moved across the ocean this week and i am so proud of them; so proud that they are getting the fresh start they need and deserve (and we decided to keep in touch by the pen).

and then winter arrives, with the hopes of another two-month trip abroad, this time maybe morocco, or lebanon, or jordan. probably the former.

i hope the sun, out today, and its warmth hangs around for another week or two, before the chill seeps in. the earlier night's already a weight on my mood. i hope to read a book or two more as the sun sets in the park.

never in your [age] years of life have you ever thought that you’d resort to online applications to interact with the opposite sex. although, it’s a far cry to dating apps, it stills leaves a weird feeling in your stomach.

if it not had been for your colleague telling you that you’re already far from high school and that you can’t exactly use going to an all-girls school as an excuse as to why you’re so socially inept when it comes to men. so in her mind, the way to go about this and fix that little problem of yours... was to download this app. granted, she was actually being very considerate of you as she didn’t immediately opt for you to download dating apps but instead just a penpal system and it was not her fault you’re not good with men— or just people in general. and while she was right that you do need to stop making any more excuses, it gnaws on you that you have to rely on a mobile app.

・✦⇢ he has a lot of distrust of people around him as every since he was a kid, people have only approached him to get his parent’s favours or connection.

・✦⇢ though, behind his back, he knows that people only thought of him as an idiot. he might not be the most academically inclined but that doesn’t mean he can’t do anything.

・✦⇢ when his parents passed, the whispers of those around him has basically imprisoned his young impressionable mind; they were all whispering how he must be cursed as he was the sole survivor of that incident.

・✦⇢ was deeply traumatised because people kept pointing out that whenever ‘misfortune’ happens around him, he’s the only one who remains unscathed.

clinging to his grandfather’s shirt, the little boy let out a choked sob.

“i,” he indignantly claimed, “i didn’t ask to be lucky. . . harabeonim, believe me. i never asked to survive without them. . . i just...” choking back another sob that he needed to let out, “am i really cursed?” hearing the boy’s exclamation, his grandparent’s heart ached.

“hey, tell me... halmeonim, harabeonim... were they gone because of me?” eyes shining with unshed tears, the little boy was desperately looking at his grandparents. whether he wanted them to confirm or deny that it was his fault, the sheer heaviness in his heart might still not be eased either way.

a soft, warm hand then turned him to meet a similarly soft and warm eyes,“listen to your halmeonim, our kind yoonseo-ah. what has happened has already happened. and what happened to your parents is obviously an unfortunate thing. however, our dear yoonseo, you are not at fault and at the same time, you surely are not the one to blame,” the old woman softly told him.

“but—“

“yoonseo.” a more intimidating, stern voice called him, making him turn his head at the source.

“yoonseo-ah, that is right.” this time, a softer voiced was heard. “you are neither at fault or to blame. and i am certain that if both your mother and your father were to hear that thought of yours, they will certainly be disappointed and they will certainly be beat—“ the old man awkwardly cleared his throat after looking at his side, “ i mean scolding those who dare utter such nonsense to you.”

little did the boy know, everyone who dared gossip about him in that funeral, was convicted of a felony one way or another and will only be tossed to the streets after going back to society. after all, all their assets were now seized by his intimidating but kind harabeonim and in time, all those assets will be given to him.

・✦⇢ in your childhood days, although he clung more to you, he’s definitely someone you depended on. he was a breath of fresh air whenever you hung out together. especially since he has never spouted the same crazy ideology the adults in your family love to say. therefore, without him ultimately begging for your attention like he would do, you do seek him out from time to time yourself.

The exam is at 2 pm so I have time for one last revision. I should be done by 4 pm and then I have to smark work for my internship. Hopefully, I won't get my usual post-exam headache.

What, specifically, was the catalyst for their physical attraction (if applicable) to the other character? In other words, what in particular had them like “Oh, they’re…hot…”

I think for Kan-E it was first when Eos came to the alliance meeting in the lotus stand to discuss the incoming garlean invasion in the shroud from gyr abania. It was the first time they saw each other in such a serious setting and the way eos was crossing her arms while listening silently, sternly and seriously to the alliance leaders, ready to intervene out of duty even if one could tell she was not having the best time, was definitely some kind of catalyst that would then go dormant for a few expansions. (won't spoil the EW tank rolequests but let's say i'm not saying this out of the blue)

For Eos it happened much later, during the EW tank rolequests and after. Without spoiling anything let's just say kan-e's determined look - a change from her usual calm and composed face - had eos go insane. And in general kan-e's actions were hot by essence. do the tank rolequests

2. Does this change over time? What things do they find “hot” about their partner after they’ve been together for some time, and have had more time to, well, notice and appreciate?

Listen. Eos loves kan-e's necklace and from there her neck and shoulders. But more generally she loves how kan-e carries herself, and the way she talks, too. It's all about being modest about your charge to the point you fuse with the woods you swore to serve and act accordingly - that's hot okay. Though it's also hot when you start dreaming of adventure Kan-E loves the way Eos dresses (concealing outfits) and her scales too. More generally life on the road makes someone look hot in her eyes. I think.

3. By contrast, what was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh…I adore them…"

Hehehehe. So this one happened quite early on for eos even though she didn't make sense of it until muuuuch later. So back in heavensward merlwyb tells the wol that she and kan-e-senna didn't just *leave* the bloody banquet like that, but actually used their influence afterwards to protect our name and reputation until we were proven guilty or innocent. Eos, who was distrustful of the alliance at the time, was surprised. Then, much later, kan-e-senna travels to the churning mists to parley with the moogles - and the specific thing that stood out to eos was not her speech, but "the offering of light and wind" she makes to moglin. it is pure, it is soothing, it is peaceful and true: from this moment eos knows kan-e-senna isn't lying about her intents (which achieves to rebuild her trust in the alliance). Really a "oh... i adore her"... realization indeed. She will not dare to dwell on it for a while. You know how it is

For Kan-E this is something that happened off-screen: she mostly heard her siblings describe eos' training as a conjurer then as a white mage. On top of the whole warrior of light business, eos is very devoted to the land and a steadfast and calming presence which wasn't true at the time, eos was screaming internally at any given second, but she kept giving off this vibe. so... "i adore her" by proxy.

In both case it doesn't go further until endwalker because well they don't get to see each other a lot what with all "the war is raging and the world is dying" situation

7. Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?

SOOOOO this answer's gonna be a mess BUT. they chose to be penpals post-Endwalker and this decision alone was a display of affection. Eos not being very good with words she sends drawings of the places she visits to kan-e, so the elder seedseer can still have a taste of adventure. Conversely kan-e keeps her informed of what's going on in the twelveswood so eos knows her new home is safe. in general she's very keen on making eos feel safe in the woods. They're both very curious about the other's culture, even if it led to a few disagreements. Eos is still silent most of the time and the rare words she now feels comfortable enough to utter are usually for kan-e, but she'd rather show her affection through physical touch or little attentions. Once their relationship begins they try not to conceal anything from each other and they are. mostly. very soft. they don't feel the need to earn the other's admiration; they both silently respect the other and have been for some time even before they got to know the other.
