David Raya's Heroics Help Arsenal Secure Draw in Champions League Opener

David Raya produced an astonishing double save to deny Mateo Retegui’s penalty as Arsenal earned a hard-fought draw against Atalanta in their Champions League opener.

Marcellus Williams is scheduled to be executed on September 24 for a crime DNA proves he did not commit. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney reviewed these DNA results and filed a motion to vacate Mr. Williams’s conviction because he believed the DNA results proved by clear and convincing evidence that Mr. Williams did not commit this crime. Although the circuit court has not yet scheduled a hearing to address this motion–and no court has ever considered the new exculpatory evidence — the Missouri Supreme Court set an execution date for Mr. Williams.

Marcellus’ legal team, including lawyers from the Innocence Project and Midwest Innocence Project, said they “will continue to fight for Mr. Williams’ exoneration and seek a hearing on the prosecutor’s motion to vacate.

For every ten people sentenced to death, one is innocent, so the numbers suggest.

That's not a lot of people. But that is too many people. It is enough people to make the case of abolishing the death penalty.

Please stop, a man is about to get wrongfully executed for a crime he didn't commit.

Robert Robertson is an autistic man on death row set on October 17th for a crime he never comitted. The entire case against him has been rooted in ableism, and Texas plans to murder him for it. He's been on death row for over twenty years.

Robert's two-year-old, chronically-ill daughter, Nikki, passed away in the hospital due to prior medical conditions after falling from her bed. Staff misjudged Robert's reaction to her death as "lacking emotion" when it was really a common autistic trait. He was not diagnosed for autism until 2018, well after the trial, in which his autistics traits were used to paint him as a cold and remorseless man, which was not clearly not the case.

The jury was told that Nikki was killed by shaken baby syndrome, and that there was sound proof behind that. That was a lie, many medics and scientists have confirmed that the evidence shows that she died from accidental and natural causes, and was not killed by her father. Therefore, the crime never happened.

Here's another truth: The number of people who choose how to vote based on how a candidate stands on the death penalty is minuscule. Therefore, it absolutely does not help to force the issue in a public way. That's why today we begin a low key campaign to remind President Biden of his promise to end the federal death penalty.

"As a Catholic sister (nun), I am not able to donate. I pray for Death Penalty Action, your staff and all involved with abolition work.

Brewing you up a lovely cup of f1 history ☕️. All below the cut as this is longer than expected!

Crashgate was at the Singapore GP of 2008 and was when Renault (headed by Flávio Briatore who is now back at Alpine) gave instructions for Nelson Piquet Jr to deliberately crash the car at a time when Fernando Alonso would most benefit from a safety car. Alonso then went on to win the race. Renault then fired Nelson midway through the season and angry at them he revealed everything- Renault was then disqualified from the constructors championship, Briatore was fired etc etc.

It is also what a lot of Felipe Massa’s lawsuit for the 2008 title is about as Lewis Hamilton won the championship by 1 point but gained 6 points on Massa in that one race which Massa started on pole for and was ahead until the crash. He argues (and some agree with him) that the whole race should be disqualified.

Spygate also involves Alonso and is just one example of the McLaren Ferrari historic rivalry. In 2007 a relatively high up Ferrari employee felt that he was overlooked and stole around 800 pages and blueprints about the 2007 Ferrari car. He then gave it to a friend at McLaren but this friend wanted an extra copy so he took it to a photocopying shop in Woking where the clerk emailed Ferrari directly. Cue Italian and UK court cases etc. Interestingly, McLaren were originally cleared as not knowing about the information but at a second hearing this was revealed to be untrue.

At the same time this was going on, Alonso and Hamilton were infighting like crazy and purposefully ruining each other’s qualifyings etc and Alonso felt like the team were backing the rookie over the current champion. He eventually got so annoyed that he threatened to leak emails revealing evidence that McLaren was involved unless they purposefully sabotaged Hamilton’s fuel. For whatever reason- a second hearing was called, McLaren was guilty, disqualified from the constructors and given a €100 million fine (the biggest in sporting history arguably due to people hating Ron Dennis so much), Kimi won the championship due to McLaren taking points from each other and Lewis got it in 2008.

One final bit of relevance is that Mercedes were 40% shareholders in McLaren at the time and as such had to pay a €40 million fine too. They understandably got very annoyed and this was seen as one of the main reasons that they re-entered f1 as their own team (especially after Brawn success with their engine). So one could argue that Fernando was also semi-responsible for Lewis getting so many championships which is incredibly ironic 😭

Unethical Executions in April

Micheal Smith is being executed in Alabama despite having an intellectual disability that would disqualify him from the death penalty in any other state. The only reason he is still being executed is because of a few confusing technicalities in Oklahoma law.

Missouri is slated to execute Brian Dorsey despite his claims of ineffective counsel and the fact that he is picture of remorse and rehabilitation: he turned himself over to the police and pled guilty, has had a flawless prison record, currently resides in the honor ward while working as a prison barber (a highly coveted job only given to trust worthy inmates), and has about 60 prison staff members advocating for the commutation of his sentence.
