I want to ask an orthopedic doctor if they think using crutches when my knees are bad around the house would shorten the length of flare-ups/keep them from migrating from one knee to the other due to favoring. Unfortunately my knee condition can be fixed with PT so I know I'm going to get a "oh well if your pain is that bad you should do PT even though it will make you bed bound because I don't understand what it means to not be able to exercise" kind of answer.

So I'm finally accepting the fact I need aids in my day to day life. I have never really given myself the kindness to take care of myself, as I grew up in a very "just push through it cry baby" family. But in just pushing through it, I've made my situation worse. So it's time to allow myself to lessen my pain.
Sunglasses
As I get pain in my eyes after sitting in artificial light for too long, and immediate pain in natural sunlight. This has always been an issue but is much worse now that I've doubled my dose of Prozac (causes light sensitivity)
Noise Cancelling Headphones/Regular Headphones
Due to my autism (and social anxiety) I get easily overstimulated in public places and this can help
Walking Stick
My patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is just getting worse and worse so I need a cane to help myself walk, as it'll take weight off of my bad knee, help when my knee gives out, and will be very very helpful when climbing my house's 62 stairs
Knee Brace
Same as above, I need it to keep my knee cap from sliding around
Sensory Toys
I need to carry my stress shark, tangle, and fidget spinner with me to help me cope in high stress environments (especially when I'm by myself)
Rats
This one is a bit impractical and strange but having one of my pet rats with me when in public spaces really helps me. I feel a lot calmer, safer and generally less freaked out. They're just silly little guys

What is chronic knee pain?
Chronic knee pain can be caused by a multitude of factors, ranging from natural cartilage wear to more specific injuries. Here are some of the most common causes:
* Osteoarthritis of the knee: This is the progressive wearing away of the cartilage covering the ends of the knee bones. It is one of the most common causes of chronic knee pain, especially in the elderly.
* Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendons around the knee, such as the patella or patellar tendon, can cause pain.
* Meniscus damage: The meniscus is the shock-absorbing cartilage in the knee. A tear or lesion can lead to pain and stiffness.
* Patellofemoral syndrome: Often called “jumper's knee”, this syndrome is due to misalignment of the patella. It causes pain in the front of the knee.
* Other causes: Poorly-healed fractures, inflammatory diseases (such as rheumatoid arthritis), infections and circulation problems can also cause chronic knee pain.
Tumblr media
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms can vary depending on the cause of the pain, but often include:
* Persistent pain: Pain may be constant or appear during specific activities.
* Swelling: The knee may feel swollen and warm to the touch.
* Stiffness: Difficulty bending or fully extending the knee.
* Instability: A “loose knee” sensation.
How can chronic knee pain be relieved and treated?
Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. It may include :
* Rest: Avoid activities that aggravate pain.
* Ice: Apply ice to the knee to reduce inflammation.
* Medication: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can help relieve pain and inflammation.
* Physiotherapy: Specific exercises can strengthen the muscles around the knee and improve mobility.
* Orthotics: A knee brace can help stabilize the joint.
* Injections: Corticosteroid injections can reduce inflammation in some cases.
* Surgery: In more severe cases, surgery may be required.

Literally preach people will actually become upset when these kind of hcs are mentioned its insane "but they fight they need to be abl" WHO CARES??? Disabled people are not helpless [also its fictional but yk]
Scout has Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, Medic has pots, Soldier has Carpal Tunnel- I could go on- Yes their can and is reasoning for some of these but for others their aren't, because they are HEADCANONS, op thank u for actually talking about this
I don't know why there aren't more physical disability Head-Canons, there are a bunch of neurodivergent Head-Canons (that's a good thing, I'm just making a point), but you don't really see that many Head-Canons about your faves being amputees or having a facial difference due to there disability or having CP, so if you have any tell everyone your physically disabled Head-Canons, you're going to change someone's brains chemistry I'm sure of it.

Anyway, me, the physiotherapist and the osteopath all think I have patellofemoral pain syndrome and not osteoarthritis like the doctor said. Still unknown WHY I have an large number of hurty-foot and hurty-knee syndromes but hopefully just doing an ungodly number of exercises will fix everything eventually.

If 40 people sent 5 dollars I'd be able to afford this mobility aid I've been trying to get for years. Again, do not feel obligated

I'm doing things now that I have my powerchair that I never would have done when I was "able bodied". I'm slowly realizing that I was physically disabled for years before I developed CFS and was just in denial about it. The IST severely limited my ability to stand up for a long time and my knees kept me from doing things that required walking. My life used to be constantly controlled by "is that too much walking/standing for me?" and it's just not as much anymore. I've always struggled with big live shows because of the slow shuffle out, same way with getting on and off of planes, and in line at amusement parks. I just think of all the times I was miserable at fun events and how much more fun I would have had if I had a small powerchair or a manual chair with power assist. I punished myself because I was told I would get better if I exercised and I thought I was lazy for struggling to exercise and not being well enough to do things.

I was once again scrolling through the cane user tag (because community and such) and I saw an awesome post (that was just reblogged).
It got me thinking about how I use my cane.
For those who don't know, Hi! I'm Twily. I'm 16 years old and I'm an ambulatory cane user.
Ambulatory means that I only use my cane some of the time. I suffer from chronic pain and fatigue, mainly in my hips and knees. My knee problems are also due to patellofemoral pain syndrome, otherwise knows as "runners knee".
My pain is usually manageable and greatly helped due to physiotherapy. One day I may be able to set my cane aside completely, but as of now, the pain is here to stay.
I have let my friends try my cane as a gag in the past and it always surprises me how badly they move with it. When using a cane, people will usually carry the cane in the opposite hand to which side needs support.
For example, when my issues started, they were mainly in my right knee. That means I learned how to walk with a cane using my left hand. Nowadays, I still only use my cane in my left hand, even though I switch which leg I am favouring regularly. The motion of swinging a cane is something you get used to with time. I am now able to use my right hand completely independently and expressively while keeping my cane moving in my left.
Mobility aids are used a little bit differently for everyone. I have my preferences and specifications for the way I use my cane.
Being so young with a mobility aid gets me looks, sure, but I've learned to live with it. This is what's right for my body. This is what works for me. Early dismissal, seating privileges, pain meds, skipping class for flare ups, and all.
Thank you for reading if you've made it this far. I'd love to hear your stories of mobility aid usage! Have a great day!

Fuck man I'm so sick of being in pain. I've struggled with endometriosis since I was 9 years old, had to deal with excruciating pain, blood loss, fainting, ect all while all the (male) doctors told me I was lying or being overdramatic, that "it's just how periods are".
Now that it's under control (multiple IUDs, and Testosterone) and even then I still get stomach pains that make me throw up from time to time.
I've always had to deal with back pain associated with my scoliosis but it's mostly manageable. Every few months my left wrist acts up (many years of SH damage), and hurts and is weak. But now I've got Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome? I can hardly walk, it's excruciating to use stairs (luckily I have 62 stairs to get to my front door fml), I'm just so done with being in pain. And I'm not even working right now, so it's only going to get worse once I inevitably have to get a job.
It just sucks ass, and I'm so so grateful I've moved out of my parents house because they have done nothing but mock me, accuse me of lying (even though my gp is the one telling me all this), ect, ect. I am so appreciative of my wonderful, amazing boyfriend who is making me take care of myself, listening to my constant complaining, helping me, and best of all, offering emotional support and not accusing me of being a liar. I really really love this man and I'm going to marry him so hard.

From this post I got some ideas for Marshall’s issues—Dehydration headaches, Amelogenesis Imperfecta (soft tooth enamel, and Patellofemoral syndrome for knee pain.
While dehydration headaches could be solved by drinking more water, soft tooth enamel eventually the majority of it will need to be replaced if not caught early, which is EXPENSIVE, not to mention physical therapy for the knee which is abt 1k for four weeks of work.
So he just lives with it, and drinks to cope with tooth and knee pain which then causes him headaches.

Oh thank you for this!! I really like any of these for Marshall… >:]

Story at-a-glance
Muscle imbalances occur when certain muscles become stronger or tighter than their opposing counterparts, disrupting musculoskeletal harmony and causing pain through altered movement patterns
Common causes include repetitive movements, poor posture, inadequate training routines and lifestyle factors like improper footwear, affecting both athletes and non-athletes
Hip muscle imbalances significantly impact lower back health, with weakness in hip extensors or flexors altering gait and placing excessive stress on your spine
Knee pain and injuries, particularly patellofemoral pain syndrome, often result from muscle imbalances
Natural options include avoiding excessive sitting, regular stretching, strengthening exercises targeting underactive muscles, proper footwear, balance training and maintaining good posture throughout daily activities
