Inspired by agistment drama. Personally I'd rather people stay outside of my paddock because Bom is... Bom. But I go in with other people's horses if I know they don't mind, only really if I have a reason to like checking water or fixing a fence, but I will give them scratch and maybe a treat while I'm there.

I like the idea that Norm just has a stockpile of favors that he calls on whenever something needs to get done that requires physical action that Jenny can't/won't do by herself.
After a career like Norm's, done by a guy like Norm, the collection of favors he has is the biggest stockpile of weapons in North America.

been cycling my thoughts on the finale and the whole of Peaceful Property for a few days now, and the whole question/discussion about how queer (or not) the show is.
one of the main things i keep coming back to in my reflections, is this quote from Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater and the relationship between the main set of characters in The Raven Cycle, because it makes me think of our ghost hunting gang:
You can be just friends with people, you know," Orla said. "I think it's crazy how you're in love with all those raven boys." Orla wasn't wrong, of course. But what she didn't realize about Blue and her boys was that they were all in love with one another. She was no less obsessed with them than they were with her, or one another, analyzing every conversation and gesture, drawing out every joke into a longer and longer running gag, spending each moment either with one another or thinking about when next they would be with one another. Blue was perfectly aware that it was possible to have a friendship that wasn't all-encompassing, that wasn't blinding, deafening, maddening, quickening. It was just that now that she'd had this kind, she didn't want the other.
as much as i would have loved Peach and Home to smooch, i also am a huge fan of people being platonically in love with their friends. we were discussing the show after finishing the finale the other night, and our friend A commented to @poetry-protest-pornography that people over the years could have easily taken her friendship with me for being romantic even tho it never has been and i chimed in that it's because A and i have always been platonically in love with each other. we've been friends for around 20 years now and close for most of it; we hold hands, she sits in my lap, we snuggle, i pick her up and swing her in circles, we hug often, we touch each other constantly when we rarely get to see each other. besides her, i'm platonically in love with a bunch of my other friends as well; the group that actually includes the friend who got me to read The Raven Cycle, in particular, are all low key obsessed with each other and we have been for like the last 15 years. it's beautiful, and special, and deep, and completely non-romantic. and it's nice to see that kind of relationship being shown in media regardless of the gender of the characters involved.
what a good show. what a fun show. more platonic love stories please. more found families. more of all of this. more of all the different kinds of love.

Kingdom Hearts šŸ¤ Sonic Prime
Listen, focusing on a person's relationships/friendships with a bunch of people and their very strong relationship with a particular person are not mutually exclusive things. It is true there is a focus on bonds and the main character's relationship with multiple people as there is a very clear focus on their relationship with one particular person.

heart-breaking: the musical+book that grabbed your very soul when you were fifteen years old and gave you the foundations of your politics and showed you a way to exist in the world got a big budget movie adaptation. and it was utter dogshit. and it had a horrible reactionary neolib undertone straining against the bones of what, in its original form, was a strikingly revolutionary story. and it specifically removed the parts of the main character that made you connect to her so much, i.e. her autism.

okay sorry coming on here to say: as a creator who has people Regularly Threaten to make nsfw of my characters against my wishes: i dont even mind nsfw art and i think people should have the freedom of self expression JUST AS MUCH as i think creators should be allowed boundaries for what happens with their works
to say ā€œyouve shared something with the public you must now be comfortable with any and all porn of it regardless of whether or not you want itā€ is just as predatory as people saying ā€œwell youve shared this picture of yourself/your loved one online you must be comfortable with someone jacking it to your/their likenessā€
because regardless of the fact that it WILL happen or isnt legal/illegal it doesnt make it not wrong to disregard peoples comfort.

Realized that my daydreams about retrieving Solanum from the Quantum Moon play out shockingly (hell, poignantly even) close to some sort of reverse tale of Orpheus
#as in. turning around to check shes there spelling her death versus having to stay turned around to be sure shes there keeping her 'alive'#outer wilds spoilers#solanum outer wilds#AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA#also it'd still be either doomed or extremely difficult (even discounting the sun thing) because like#she'd be a quantum object for the rest of her semi-existence pretty much#even if you got her OFF of the moon she'd still exhibit quantum properties in the same way other things entwined with quantum phenoma do#especially her since like. she's also literally speaking dead. causally her being able to exist YEEEEEAAAAAAARS after her species went#locally extinct is just makes that more apparent (given nomai can't be super long-lived given. textual evidence pointing towards them#being able to lose knowledge across generations within comperable spans of time)#though her exiting the moon and being succesfully taken back to Hearth or wherever would also mean she'd.#like. maybe also 1/6th exist there????#though that'd only last as far as the whole loop thing. fuck that sun in particular#.....of course my little stories about whisking her outta there are mostly involved in grabbing as many hearthians as possible and going#As A Group to the eye sldhgkllhkdsghlksgdhlkgdhlgdsgsdhlk so the sun going kablooey aint a huge deal in that regard#(though the prospect of bringing not-accustomated-to-exploring hearthians to the eye is ghoulish enough in its own right to even consider.)#(maybe just stick to the main 5)#well#six#seven including us really.

writing is an Experience because inevitably Iā€™m gonna need some information that thereā€™s really no way to search online for and it probably isnā€™t at the library either
on a related note, does anyone know how one would write a grocery list in Cajun French?

I've been playing the Power Rangers phone game so I've been seeing a LOT of ads for other mobile games (sidebar: hate that there's now a genre of game where watching ads is a mechanic!) and all of them skeeve me out! The little king in Royal Match is a sleep paralysis demon! Slot machines make me sad! I don't know how to play solitaire but I'm pretty sure it won't make me money!
Genuinely do not consider these things video games. They are technically games in the literal sense that you can interact with them but there is no spirit or soul behind them. They are programs that exist to take your time and money.
Which like, hey, most video games are created for profit! I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that! But this is to a whole new level. When I think about League of Legends, even though it's designed to make you addicted and take your money, at least it has style and panache. At least when I look at the pointless cosmetics that game hawks, I can appreciate the design and storytelling and understand that somewhere along the line, it was some artist's dream and there is a level of creative expression happening.
I look at these shitty match three mobile games and I can't imagine that it was anyone's dream to make them. I can't imagine any thought went into them beyond "how can I make money?"
And it's so apparent in the advertising too. The ads they show me range from deceptive (fake in-game footage) to exploitative (soulless celebrity ad reads) to just bizarre (weird low-budget sketches). It's lowest common denominator stuff and it feels like they can't even muster up the energy to pretend like it's anything good and they're just hoping to wear people down via constant exposure.
