Misuk, I'll protect her with you. Just like how you raised Seunghyo, I'll love and take care of Seokryu too. LOVE NEXT DOOR (2024) dir. Yoo Je Won

i didn't think i'd cry so much with hye-suk and mi-suk making up but god there's something about long standing friendships that just makes my heart ache. they've known each other for four decades and sure there's always space for bitterness to creep in. what a stupidly endearing way for them to get back together. (yes yes violence is bad and mi-suk has almost always crossed a line with it but still 🙄 for the sake of cheap comedy). when they finally talked to each other on the terrace 😭🩷 that was everything for me.

Love Next Door

Wow! This is definitely a favorite for me! I love the story and the characters. This is a series I know I will rewatch. It's a story that everyone can relate to because it's not just about two people in love, it's about family, friendship and the rest. Is about finding ourselves and working towards our dreams, is about life in all its facets and the people that make our world special.
It's a must watch series!

TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Love Next Door (2024, South Korea)
Director: Yoo Je Won
Writer: Shin Ha Eun
Mini-review:
As a fan of both Jung Hae In and Jung So Min, I knew I couldn't miss this for anything in the world. And fortunately, it was a fun and endearing ride from beginning to end. There were so many times where I felt like this drama had perfected the 'childhood friends to lovers' trope, which I've always been very fond of. That's not to say it's perfect, though; while the last two episodes are very good, overall I enjoyed the first half a lot more than the second one. I love my romcoms with a considerable splash of angst, but a lot of the dramatic storylines on here felt a tad too silly, at least in the way they were handled. Still, the cast pulls through any and all flaws with their spot-on acting and chemistry. Jung Hae In turns in a particularly incredibly performance, showcasing his diverse and nuanced range like never before (which is saying a lot, since I already considered him a supremely skilled actor). To sum up, Love Next Door has its issues, but it's more than lovely enough to get past them.

THE MATCHMAKERS
GENRES: Historical, Comedy, Romance
SUMMARY: A Prince with an unfortunate reputation and a noble lady moonlighting as a matchmaker find love for the entire village--and themselves.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Quick costume changes, wedding-night poison, secret attic erotica, sass-mouths, old bachelors, heart palpitations, minister scheming, temples, donkeys, god-tier matchmaking, and learning to love your fate.
HOT TAKE: Dammit, Rowoon has done it again. Despite the fact that the only kiss the main leads had was top-tier terrible, this show was clever, adorable, refreshing, and just overall an excellent watch. Everyone's chemistry was great and the plot fake-outs were funny. Would totally recommend for someone looking for a lighthearted drama that will make you smile.

Seokryu was sick, so how could I not be worried? She's your precious child. The apple of your eye. She's the daughter of my best friend. You know how much I adore her. How could I not care about her? LOVE NEXT DOOR (2024) dir. Yoo Je Won

Revenant
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Revenant (2023, South Korea)
Directors: Lee Jung Rim & Kim Jae Hong
Writer: Kim Eun Hee
Mini-review:
I finally got the chance to watch this, and it didn't disappoint at all. I love me a good horror thriller, a genre that's very in rare in the world of k-dramas, and this one ticks all the boxes for me. Sure, it's not super scary or anything, but it does know how to be creepy as hell. And while it was the central mystery that kept me hooked from beginning to end, I also appreciated the way they used individual "cases" to build up the main plot, especially during the first half. On top of that, the show is superbly acted, with Kim Tae Ri being particularly excellent in a sort of dual role. But really, I don't think I have a single complaint. Revenant is truly that good, and I will certainly add it to my favorite dramas list.
P.S. There is a lot of triggering content throughout its twelve episodes, so be careful with that and make sure to check warnings.
