It's weird seeing Kim Joo- ryoung who played Han Mi-nyeo in Squid Game play another character in a different drama. LOL.

ㅤanyway. mi-nyeo's petty behavior and negative attitude towards sae-byeok stems primarily from how differently the two are immediately treated by other contestants. even if mi-nyeo had no real interest in deok-su beyond the safety that his team could provide, the attention and interest he showed in sae-byeok (even if mi-nyeo didn't know the context) spurred an ingrained jealous streak a mile wide.

ㅤshe's not formally educated, and thus had to work considerably harder than her peers just to survive, while so many people around her were simply having things handed to them. it's something that's eaten away at her over the years, made her bitter and jaded, especially towards other women. ( see: "i work my ass off to wipe the toilet and you just sit right on top? you're the really annoying type." ) her vote to continue the games was more out of nihilism than necessity. every day in the real world is a fight for her life; the games are no different.

ㅤshe knows she's not the prettiest in the room, or the most talented, or the most charismatic. never has been, never will be. it became a source of contention for her, a constant, nagging feeling of being overlooked and overshadowed by her peers, of never having anyone pay attention to her. friends and lovers alike never stuck around; they grew tired of her unpredictable emotions and insecurities, and she'd end up alone once more. her obnoxious and boisterous behavior is a convincing, albeit grating front; she's cowardly and needy and insecure beneath it all, but god forbid she ever show it again. she's seen where that leaves her: alone.

ㅤ"it’s easy to hate her, but on the inside, she’s lonely and afraid of people more than anyone else. i pitied her — that she is someone who can’t belong anywhere. [ ... ] she seems tough on the outside but has more fear than anyone else on the inside. she’s actually timid, but she’s loud and talkative [ ... ] because she doesn’t want other people to notice her faint-hearted inner side. it was her desperate struggle to survive, as well as her way of telling people, "please look at me."
