[ caged complacency ] 2021 was not a good year, and living through it felt like absolute hell, especially in my country with its endless pandemic lockdowns... all because of political instability and people in power not caring if their people were suffering. We had very brief moments whereby things opened up again, but apathy at that point ate at your core and you just didn’t want to go out- you didn’t want to try and take that small glimmer of hope that things would be OK, for fear that the crushing disappointment would be the end of you. Because your lives were ultimately at the mercy of those in power anyway.

What Did We Learn From Covid?

These days, a conventional wisdom has settled in that we somehow overreacted to Covid. That our response went too far, and we are now past those silly times. Here's the lesson to take away: we didn't do enough. Trump's response was idiotic and catastrophic (does anyone remember him saying blue state governors "have to treat us well" if they want coronavirus help?). Over 1.1 million Americans have died. Countless lives have been shattered by Long Covid. We let the virus be politicized by opportunists, and allowed false narratives about governments "controlling" us to dominate our media. The hard choices that were made to prevent even more death and suffering are now, ludicrously, seen as mistakes.

think kagepros ending is so perfect despite the totally insane story pace it holds the entire time. i especially love that they take a character like haruka, a side character whose misery came from not having the possibility of growing old, and make him the character that reflects what being an adult is like. as someone who never revisited kagepro because i never left, it felt a lot like the characters grew up with me sniff sniff especially my ultra faves the yuukei quartet who are rly the ones who end up as sorta adults when its over. its fun bc im a fail adult in my 20s you know. and its like.... whoa somehow my favorite characters are also fail adults now. that's crazy

I'm working on my personal Batman Timeline, and I've just stumbled into 90s-early 2000s comics. And wow, a lot happens here, doesn't it? Knightfall, Contagion, Cataclysm, No Man's Land, Fugitive, and War Games all happen in the same period of time. Not to mention Batman Hush and Under the Red Hood that happened soon after that. Batman really was put through the ringer, wasn't he?

So one of my skits is going to feature the Batfam during the pandemic

It was going to feature someone trying to break out of the manor but then I realized…There’s Tim Drake…

The world is under quarantine…

And he has no spleen….

Bro is freaking out meanwhile Damian pretends to cough anytime he sees him walk by and Bernard tries to sneak in but Jason goes nuts on him for trying to ‘get down with the sickness’.

Stephanie is texting him from her apartment while Dick freaks out and starts disinfecting… everything…

Alfred is old so Bruce basically screams at everyone to do their own shit and walk the opposite direction of the man if they haven’t gotten tested yet.

Talia starts arguing with Bruce that Damian would be safer from COVID if he stayed with her in the mountains and the only reason Damian won’t leave is because she won’t let him bring all however many of his animals.

Selena turns into an alcoholic in the basement and gets mad at Bruce for talking to the mother of his youngest son but then remembers she can get drinks and never full signed the prenup so it’s fine.

Meanwhile Jason contemplates if he rather have the disease or spend another day in this house with these people.

Hello there, and thank you so much for your love for Flowerpot!

As much as I love Ben, his story, and the world of Flowerpot, I've become a lot less inclined to return to it now that we're living through a real pandemic. Part of me is worried that I won't be able to handle the themes/setting sensitively enough (or even if I could, I don't know if what I'd be saying is meaningful enough to use such a sensitive allegory), but more importantly, I don't think the comic would be enjoyable for me to make. I'm not the type of author who likes to transparently incorporate personal struggles or real-life experiences into my stories, and unfortunately, a pandemic has become a real-life experience for me.

While I never want to completely exclude the possibility, I will say that it's not a high-ranking option for my next project
