Just to clarify some things...

"Ew, why do you ship Ozula?!"

I have been asked this question, and many variations of it over and again, and I am getting really tired of explaining myself. Despite that, I'm going to try one last time, so here goes.

First of all, do I think father/daughter incest is okay in real life? No, absolutely not... but Azula and Ozai are fictional characters. Shipping is not morality. Supporting/liking/writing/reading a ship says NOTHING about your personal values. It IS NOT the same as thinking said ship is moral and/or that these dynamics should be accepted in a real-life setting. In fact, I would be the first to say that the Azula/Ozai ship is morally reprehensible for a multitude of reasons: One, Azula is underage. And beyond that, it's abuse, it's non-consensual, it's grooming, and it's just plain toxic and unhealthy. Furthermore, there is a pretty disgusting age-gap as well as a power imbalance. All of these things are true.

"Okay then why do you ship it despite knowing all of this?!"

I do feel like a lot of people are confused about the purpose of shipping. It means something different for everyone, and it can also vary depending on what ship we're talking about. For example, I ship Kataang because I think it's cute, the characters compliment each other well, and I like the idea of them getting married, having children together, and living happily ever after. I ship Sokkla because it's hot, and because I like exploring the idea of Azula actually being in a functional relationship and being happy.

Ozula though? I ship that for entirely different reasons. There are many but for the sake of simplicity, I'm going to list the top 5:

It makes too much sense to ignore.

I love dissecting Azula and Ozai as characters, and what would drive them to commit incest.

It's infinitely more interesting than the popular pairings. While ONLY liking healthy and functional relationships is your prerogative, it ain't mine. A fandom experience made entirely of sunshine and rainbows is boring to me.

The potential for hot, kinky, sweaty incest sex. (Not sorry).

The tragedy of it all. Azula is and was always meant to be a tragic character. While a lot of her fans would like to see her get a redemption arc, I can't say I'm one of them. Not because she doesn't "deserve" it or whatever else her haters claim but because I think it works better for the narrative and her individual arc if she remains a villain and a tragic figure.

In conclusion, no one is out here shipping Ozula because they think it's "true luuuurve uwu", like that's just silly. Use your brain.

This is what would probably happen if Ozai ever expressed the idea of not being married to Ursa in the comics because Azulon doesn't strike me as the type of person to listen to Ozai's opinion.(yeah I made this.)

Personally, I believe that Ozai is pretty asexual in nature and doesn't really seek romance or even sexual pleasure from even the most beautiful of women in the Fire Nation. Fire Lord Azulon most certainly knows this about his second-born son despite the massive fangirl club cult that follows him around. However, Azulon also knows that Ozai is extremely loyal and logical and will obey the wishes of the Fire Sages and his father the Fire Lord himself. The only issue Ozai truly has with this Ursa girl is that she is a decade his junior along with possibly being a non-bender from the backwater village of Hira'a. This royal betrothal match would feel like an insult in Ozai's eyes if it weren't for Ursa being Avatar Roku's granddaughter. Fire Avatar blood in the royal family hasn't been around since probably Avatar Szeto! Ozai would much rather his Fire Princess wife be a military firebending noblewoman of his age range along with being ruthless, meticulous, cunning, vicious, and imperialistically fanatical like himself. Basically, Azula is the perfect woman that Ozai would had wanted as his wife! This is why he likely raised her to embody the ideals and mental mindset that is expected and perfect for a Fire Princess of the Fire Nation. It took Ozai a bit of time to adjust to Ursa being his wife especially her being a non-bender and her kinder and more gentle personality. If Ursa was a firebender then I could see Ozai personally training Ursa from sunrise to sunset every day to make sure she isn't disrespected and challenged to Agni Kai duels by other love rival firebending noblewomen competitors.

Hello, Nichya here *waves*. My main account is fully dedicated to Zucest, aka Zuko and Azula, and I've written tons of stories about them fucking like rabbits.

My only real problem with Ozula as a ship is that everytime I see Ozai I wanna bash his head in with a shovel. None of the problematic stuff like the incest, age gap and huge power imbalance bother me. Also the person behind that blog is a good friend of mine.

If this is a deal breaker for you, you can just block me 'cause I know what I'm about and I've got no regrets or shame.
