Zoro had been harboring a secret.

Tucked away in the crows nest to find a serene sense of sanctuary as you both nestle under the wooly blanket you had long since adopted as your own, brings him a world of comfort — the perfect place to present the gift he had been discreetly working on for the last few weeks.

The empty canvas that made up your neck demanded something equally as mesmerizing as you to show off and enchance your features. The thought of milky dewdrops that resemble the lofty moon you two would embrace under every evening felt befitting — a pearl necklace that he could tenderly string together in a dire hope that you’d adore it the way he cherishes you.

Begrudgingly, Zoro had to make a deal with the devil for it — the devil being the shitty love cook that never fails to cast his heart eyes in your direction and drive the swordsman mad.

But truthfully, he was the only one that could efficiently help him out. So he swallowed his pride for your sake.

The days at quaint little fishing village the crew found themselves docked at awhile ago were spent shucking oysters with Sanji to find the treasure that sometimes lay beneath the squishy meat, somehow forced to work together as the rest of the crew questioned why they were being served at almost every meal.

Words escape your swordsman as his large hand holds out the haphazardly wrapped gift, throat thickening with an unexpected emotion that’s all consuming and lays on his tongue like syrupy honey. But nothing needs to be said, the action saying everything his heart holds.

Tufts of stardust collect under your misty eyes, brimming with happiness that’s ready to tumble and trickle down your smiling face. Zoro doesn’t think he’s ever seen anything so beautiful, so full of life that could only be akin to discovering a twinkling star that shoots across the nighttime sky. A sight unfolding before him that he almost doesn’t want the rest of the world to see, something he can selfishly keep to himself in his ever drumming heart that beats to your name.

Calloused palms cusp your expressive cheeks and with the swipe of his thumb, he brushes the sparkling teardrops away as it absorbs into his very flesh and seeps into his bones — sharing every aspect of the sweet moment with you as his forehead kisses your own.

“Merry Christmas.” With the seal of your lips pressing together, he receives his own very gift from you, the one that keeps on giving. The unyielding love that emits from your very being coats him in a divine protection that was stronger than any suit of armor could ever provide, reinforcing his will to keep going.

“Merry Christmas, Zo.” The soft, breathy use of his nickname causes his heart swell up, chest threatening to burst from the intensive heat but your cooling touch melts him in a different way, one that has him secretly wishing you’ll never let go.

And his soul knows you never will.

Another month, another poetry workshop at the Feminist Library. This month we read, talked and wrote about animals in poetry and it was so interesting. I've never been in a room where everyone didn't love an Ada Limón poem before. Unfortunately it didn't get me any closer to unravelling a poem I've been working on for a few months (about a pearl necklace, seaworld, florida, 2000) but I did write a very surreal sound-focused poem from the perspective of an oyster

Jade is a contradiction of many things, all wrapped up in a little pink bow which you can never fully unwrap.

And she likes to keep it that way.

In her heart she will always be a businesswoman first and foremost, which means that she's always looking for things to be in her favor. As good as she is at her job it can get so tiring. Even she fantasizes about days in which she could just put her feet up, have an ice cold drink and have a cute little thing to fuss over her, telling her all sorts of silly and amusing things...

And you just happen to check every single box she has.

It's so easy to rope you into her arms. She can give you anything and everything. The best part is that it's all 100% guaranteed, literally every single person you've spoken to who has had her as business partner can attest to her skills, wit and charm. Honestly, you would be a fool to not work with her - that's what everyone says at least.

She comes to you like a whisper in the wind, her presence calming and reassuring. "Don't worry that pretty little head of yours." she croons, a soft pout on her pretty pink lips as her hand hovers over your tear stained cheek.

"I shall take care of everything."

And indeed she does.

All of your debts are paid. All of them, every single one. Even your friends and family start getting random sums of cash, and there's such a large amount that they don't even know what to do with it! You can finish school in peace, start a business from scratch, travel the cosmos, the whole world is your oyster really!!

Jade gave you a pair of wings you never even dreamed of having. And she archived it all without even breaking a sweat. You thanked her profusely, over and over, showering the wonderful Lady Bonajade with every single kind word there ever was.

However, just as you were about to soar high into the sky, the horrible reality of the situation made you crash right back down to earth. Hard.

There's a sudden coldness around your neck, like a necklace of sorts. Her gloved fingers dance around the soft flesh, her eyes laser focused on the task at hand. You don't even get to ask her what was going on, not until she suddenly yanked you to the floor.

With a grunt, you fell onto your knees and was forced to look up at her, a satisfied glimmer in her eye.

"There." she said, her tone laced with confidence. "You look so much better like this."

She yanked on the chain once more, forcing you even closer to her, so much so that you could feel her thigh against your face. She kept you there on the ground for hours as she did her paperwork, her hand occasionally stroking your hair in a way an owner would pet a dog.

She didn't seem to care for your tears and if she did, she didn't comment on them. Any and all pleas were ignored, especially when they were about the dreadfully tight collar around your neck.

You were a fool to think that you could have gotten such a good deal without paying some sort of price. There was a part of you which was ready to sell something of yours, perhaps even an organ if need be.

You just didn't think that Jade would want your freedom in exchange for her services.

When you are overwhelmed:

Find a quieter place

I find it helpful to go outside or on a short walk, possibly with some soft music or white noise.

Getting away from loud or overlapping sounds helps immensely

I also prefer dimmer lights or natural lighting when possible.

Hydrate

Water is essential for all bodily functions, including sensory and emotional regulation.

Have your preferred water bottle with you and sip slowly. Add flavouring or ice if desired

Eat something

Again, taking care of your needs is key

If possible, get a small snack and eat slowly. My system usually keeps oyster crackers with us. They’re bland but have a good amount of salt which is important for us, as we have POTS

Most of our overstimulation is caused by being hungry and not realising it

Identify irritating clothing

Is an article of clothing too tight? Are you too cold or too warm? Is something itching?

Once you’ve identified anything that’s uncomfortable, make any adjustments you can that will remedy the issue

These solutions don’t have to be conventional to be effective. Flipping socks inside out can prevent you from feeling the seams. Dabbing cool water on your wrist and/or ankles can help cool you down.

Stimming

Stimming, or self-stimulatory behaviour, can help calm you down.

Safely stimming can include tapping your fingers, chewing gum, rocking back and forth etc.

There are also stim toys and chewable necklaces for this purpose. I have recommendations if anyone needs them

Identify and Devise a Solution

What led you to feeling overwhelmed?

Write down, either physically or digitally, what caused this and start to plan a solution

If it is a problem with completing a task, We use an app called Goblin Tools. It’s free on the website and the app is $0.99, neither of which have ads. It has a to do list that uses AI to break down your task into steps. It also has a feature to identify tone in writing among other things.

Break down your plan into small, manageable pieces. You don’t need to do everything right now.

Final steps

Communicate your needs to others. If you need to adjust your environment or tasks to accommodate your needs, tell others clearly what you need and how they can help

Breathe. You’re going to be okay. You are not a failure for needing to take a break. You are not a failure for being unable to take on everything at once.

You’ve got this
