Thinking about my godswap au (again) because frankly I think too much for my own good lol.

Was thinking about Percy and sort of leaning towards making him a son of Zeus. But he’s not like a typical son of Zeus though. Like he’s just insanely busted for whatever reason and like everyone is like “wtf??” (Cuz I plan on their being more children of Zeus representing his different aspects).

Like he can control lightning and wind (to an extremely lesser extent I think to balance him out). And I was thinking about some other epithets and cults he had and he was known as a chthonic earth god in some lesser cults and associated with the Helios. He was also synchronized with some storm gods from Ancient Mesopotamia.

And like I was thinking maybe he just has all these crazy powers but maybe it like destroys his body or it’s harder to control so maybe sometimes he just freaks out and his control will slip or something.

Zeus at first was maybe proud and happy for him and maybe Percy at one point REALLY just wanted to make his father proud but like he just messed up onetime and his world just like flips on its axis and he thinks he’s a failure (eventually Zeus sort of sees him in a similar way and sort of grows wary and maybe afraid of his powers).

Like how could the son of the father of heroes just colossally mess up like this? And his self esteem just drops to the underworld lol.

I was also thinking and maybe I could have Percy just come from like a legit powerful Greco-Roman family, sorta like how Annabeth’s family comes from a line of (Swedish? I haven’t rlly read Magnus Chase but I’m getting to it trust) Kings (I definitely want to explore Annabeth’s Norse side more in this godswap AU).

And maybe he’s like a legacy of like all these different gods (which may have to influence on his powers) and I think having him be like a legacy of Apollo and/or Poseidon would be really cool.

So yeah I think despite the poll I’m leaning towards Zeus as a godly parent more. But I also don’t want to make him like insanely op. Maybe he’s just like a little bit good at everything??

I really do like the Aphrodite!Percy idea but I think I want to save Aphrodite for maybe Annabeth? I feel like in the (very few) godswaps I’ve seen it’s always Aphrodite so I don’t think I’ll do her as Percy’s godly parent.

Nerdy the Artist’s Metroid fanfic Spotlight!

I have read a fair few excellently written Metroid fanfics in my short time in this fandom, a lot of which gave me many ideas, as well as possible biases, that I have taken into my own fanfic. Still, with the obscene amount of nsfw fics related to Samus (no shame), finding those engrossing stories with plenty of character development, intrigue, and action is a bit of an annoying task. People have different standards of tagging things, and less tags does not necessarily mean less quality. Use to this, for your convenience, I’m going to be sharing a list of some of my favorite Metroid fanfiction stories, in no particular order.

1. Whispers from Beyond the Veil

Whispers from Beyond the Veil, by AlexRussoStuff, is still in its early stages, and brand new at the time of writing it. Currently, there’s only 1 chapter, but it’s a really promising one. If this fic maintains the tone and quality in this chapter, I’m all for it. It is mainly a retelling of Metroid Prime, interspersed with flashbacks from Samus’s childhood. The tone is far more brutal and gruesome than the original game, with more in the way of gore as Samus steps over the ripped apart remains of Space Pirates aboard the Orpheon. I am excited to watch this fic develop.

2. The Downfall of Ashkar Behek

I was pointed in the direction of this fic by @molagboop due to some amazing artwork by the Chozo specialist himself. The Downfall of Ashkar Behek, by Acayl, is quite long, following much of the past of Raven Beak, known in Chozo as the titular Ashkar Behek. The story is long, detailing his past as a soldier of the Mawkin, including his maiming by Ridley, known to the Chozo as Balan dosh Nabular, translated to English: Bring to Dread. The story covers many bases in the tragedy of his downfall, and you never feel he is truly evil until he is utterly consumed by madness, and his belief in the innate responsibility of the Chozo to shepard the Galaxy. He goes from a relatively basic villain in Dread to a well fleshed out antagonist whose world view we can understand, and perhaps sympathize with. While it is very lengthy, it is a wonderful read if you have the time and patience for it.

3. Metroid S

This fic is also incomplete (Metroid works slow, I guess), but the story is oozing with mystery and intrigue. Metroid S, written by Suribot, sees Samus Aran arrive on an icy world following a contract for a scientist’s rescue, and a separate, cryptic message telling of a Metroid’s presence in the derelict laboratories within. The plot is hard to sus out, and the mysteries hiding within are captivating. There is also a fair bit of monologues from Samus Aran about her past (did I mention this is in first person?) where we get to here about many past exploits and relationships. I still am itching to get questions answered with the next chapter. I think you’ll find yourself in the same boat.

4. Inheritance

Remember when I said less tags doesn’t mean less quality? This is what I mean. Inheritance, by Cuofeng, was written before Dread came out, but there are many coincidental story elements that are interesting to compare and contrast between the two. The story itself is absolutely amazing, especially in the first act, but does have some problems in the third. The sense of mistrust and paranoia that the first act gives off is unrivaled, even by S. The story follows a mission set after Fusion where Samus is tasked with helping in the fight against a reinvigorated Space Pirate faction, with eyes on some advanced Chozo technology. This might be my favorite Metroid story, due to its amazing atmosphere, great personality, and shear rule of cool excellence.

I do have one major issue though: Where Morph Ball?

5. This Time

For those of you looking for something more lowkey and feels-y, This Time, by CuratorOfFluff, is a wonderful short fic centered around Samus’s relationship with Old Bird, who is now living on Earth by himself with Samus’s pet rabbit-squirrel, Pyonchi. The care the two have for each other is just adorable, and you can tell the author had a lot of fun with this little slice of life.

6: A Swift and Howling Darkness

A Swift and Howling Darkness, by Noxshade, is a very different kind of story to most, feeling right at home with Metroid Prime’s method of storytelling. This fic is in an epistolary format, meaning it is told by logs and reports, rather than outright narration. The story centers around Samus Aran, fresh off of her horrifying adventure aboard BSL, encountering a distress beacon sent from deep into the undocumented regions of space, codified as being pre-Federation in make. Driven by her innate curiosity. She decides to investigate this unusual call for help into the dark, unknown regions of the galaxy.

7: We Will Evolve

We Will Evolve, by Thundamoo, comes hot off the heaps of Metroid Dread, using the loose plot thread of the missing Chozo ships during the escape sequence to tell a story of the X outbreak spreading beyond ZDR’s untamed wilds, and into sentient space. The horrifying idea is compounded on by the realization that what we saw of Samus’s Metroid mutations in Dread were the tip of the iceberg. Furthermore, we get to witness the arrival and spread of the X, known by the Chozo and itself as Eres, from the perspective of a civilian, caught up in the galaxy’s nightmares. The secondary protagonist is a joy to follow along, and Samus’s rage is palpable. Once again, this fic is not yet complete, but it is well worth a read thus far.

Honorable Mention: Confronting Adam (animatic)

This is a wonderful project by a YouTuber known as Galactic Gaming, making an animatic out of the fateful interaction between Samus and Adam where Samus brings out the goodness within the AI recreation of her former CO. The voice acting here is great, and the artwork is nice.

Do u see my vision here, like just them doing dumb stuff like stealing a shopping cart and chuuya pushing Dazai around a target, or sitting on a roof and dancing under the stars, platonically of course(...) however eventually one of them (depends on whose like the main focus/point of view) realizes just how pretty the other looks and how much they wanna kiss the other, but being freaked out because they're dumb and also "omg I cannot be in love with this idiot. Besides he'd never like me like that" UNTIL it gets so overwhelming and without realizing it they lean over to kiss the other!!!!

Interstellar Overdrive outtake #1

I promised I'd share some of these so ... let's go!

This flashback was originally slated for ... chapter 40, I think. But it ended up not working. I really like it, but in the end I think the story didn't need it to illustrate Tess's growth and it was more powerful not to have Catherine appear in any capacity.

Death was already inside.

Tess could taste it the moment she stepped back through the doors.  She could almost see it creeping along the ceiling, zeroing in on her mother’s apartments.  Tess, nineteen and svelte in her black Givenchy coat, cast her eyes slowly around Avalon’s entryway.  Pink and white flowers drooped on the table.  She crooked her finger beneath a peony and nudged it up.

“Ooh la la!” 

Tess jumped at the playful whisper in her ear.  A young, blonde man with sparkling blue eyes was beaming at her.  Tess laughed and threw her arms around Ray. She had not seen him for three years.  The gangly, awkward teenager she’d known had been replaced by a confident, strong-looking young man.  He squeezed her tight.

“Welcome home. I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve missed you,” she held Ray back to look him up and down.  “Look at you, getting all sexy and grown up when my back was turned.”

“Look at you!” Ray playfully lifted the bottom of her coat.  “Check out these stems!”

Tess slapped his hand.  He retaliated by spinning her around.  Laughing, Tess slapped his ass and he chased her around the hall table.  She screamed when he caught her from behind.

“Now, that is ENOUGH!”

They froze, laughter bubbling in their throats. 

“Sorry, Duke.”

“Sorry, Duke.”

“Have some goddamn respect!”  Duke admonished.  He took them in and his lips twitched.  He gestured to Ray.  “Take her coat, son.  Well, go on!”

“Take my coat, Ray,” Tess teased once Duke had turned his back and gone deeper into the house.  She unbuttoned the front.

“Don’t get used to it.”  Ray helped her out of her coat and, grinning, whispered in her ear.  “Nearly your time to shine.”

Tess looked back, humming with excitement.  “Soon.”

She left Ray behind and went to where she knew Duke would be waiting.  And there he was, lighting a smoke outside her mother’s apartments.  He exhaled up into the air and assessed the young woman standing before him, fresh off the plane, newly back in the country, ready to step into the role to which she had been born to play.

“This looks good on you, girl,” he finally said.  “Can’t quite believe just how grown up you got.”

“You look exactly as I remember.”

“I was born shit-hot,” Duke agreed.  And then he crossed his arms and glanced toward the closed bedroom door.  “You gotta buck up, okay?  She’s not lookin’ so good.  It’ll be a shock.”

So Duke let her in and gently announced her, like a guest, and Tess entered her mother’s apartments.  It smelled like chemicals, and medicine, and false hope.

Or maybe Tess brought that in with her.  Catherine was not abed as she’d anticipated.  She was at her desk, working like it was just any other day.  The only tells to her condition were wearing her robe in the afternoon … and the grey tint to her skin.  Tess stood before her desk and they took one another in.  It was the first they had seen of – or even directly spoken to – one another in three years.

“Well,” Catherine’s face creased into an uncharacteristic smile.  “Don’t you look nice.”

“Is it true?”  Tess asked, folding her hands before her.  “Are you really dying?”

Catherine nodded.  “We’re trying a new treatment,” she said.  “But it will just buy time.  That’s all.”

“How much?”

“A few months.  Maybe a year.  Why don’t you make me a drink?  Make us both one.”

Tess looked around for the bar.  It had moved and it was very poorly stocked.  The offerings on hand told her exactly the drink her mother wanted mixed, however.  She prepared two red wine spritzers and returned to the desk, but she didn’t sit down.

“Are you just going to stand there?”

“I’m not going to drink with you like we’re friends.”

Catherine didn’t bother to propose a toast.  Nor did she ask anything about Tess’s time away.  They both knew she received regular reports and was across it already.  They didn’t need to start pretending now, not at the end.

“You’re different,” Catherine finally said.

“What are your plans for me?”

“You’re enrolled to study business,” Catherine got on with the purpose for their meeting, and the reason for bringing her daughter home.  “Ray will go with you.  You’ll start learning the rest from me, while there’s still time.”

“Why don’t you just give it to Ray?  Give it to Duke.  Anyone else.”

“They’re not blood.”

“Does it matter?”

“Yes, it matters!  Have you learned nothing?” Catherine snapped.  Tess felt the sting of her mother’s tail, as bitter and swift as ever, but it didn’t wound so much anymore.  She stared the sick old woman down.

“Oh, I learned,” Tess softly replied.

“You are my blood,” Catherine leaned back with her drink.  The trite little barb had cost her, and Tess could see how low she was, how tired.  “That is all that matters.”

Tess had had a long time to think about the weight her mother placed on this.  She could’ve chosen any protégé.  There were countless ways she could have dealt with her empire, and none of those had to include a daughter whom she’d never liked.  She now knew why her mother had preserved her for this very moment.

“You won’t live on in me,” Tess told her.  “I won’t keep any part of you.  And if people are reminded of you when they see me, if they see some shadow of you inside, I will kill it.”

Catherine smiled like Tess didn’t know what she was saying.  She had prepared for this, too.  Tess didn’t care how long it took to fully expunge her mother from her own physical and mental blueprint, but she was going to do it.  She was going to be different.  Catherine Servopoulos would not live forever.  And when she died, she would be dead everywhere.

“We’ll start work tomorrow.”

Tess finally sat down.  “No, I’m here now.  We’ll start now.”

Remember seeing this Yo-Kai Watch x Pokémon (not in a shipping way, lol) fanfic, and one of the parts of it made me realize... Team Rocket has no way to counter Nate's Yo-Kai Watch. Sure, they can try capturing him, with seemingly no escape, but he can just summon Mirapo, Miradox, or Mircle to escape. They can't just steal his Yo-Kai Watch, since he already has a few other Yo-Kai Watches at his disposal, like how, in the comic, based on the Summoning Songs, he has the White Yo-Kai Watch and the Model U. And lastly, if they try kidnapping his Yo-Kai, he can just summon them with his watch. In short: The Yo-Kai Watch solos Team Rocket, lol. Oh right! Here's the fanfic, if you're interested!

Wait ok so do Plants in the Trigun manga/90s anime actually have any flora characteristics/visuals or is it exclusively abrahamic angel characteristics/visuals?

Did the mangaka take the English word "plant" from "power plant" and not from the tree and flower type of "plant" and never realise the other meaning? Cause changing the feathers to root and flower visuals is a super interesting re-framing of Plants for Stampede to make

Chazz going to stay with Atticus and Alexis over break rather than going home to his brothers.

He gets to experience what an actual loving family and healthy household environment is like for the first time.

He gets to have the first genuinely, non professional home cooked family meal he's ever had in his life.

He's a little uncomfortable and awkward around their house at first but having his friends around is helpful, and their parents are so nice and caring and present he feels legitimately welcome in their home. First time he's ever really felt that way anywhere.

Atticus and Alexis take him around town and just do normal people activities like going to the movies, drag him along to go grocery shopping, walking around the mall, fast food, just going out for a walk, take him to a concert, mini golf an annual tradition in my family myself 😌, Atticus takes him on a date, they drag him to dinner with the extended family and their grandma 100% incorrectly assumes Chazz and Alexis are dating and they're all embarrassed but it's fine 🤭. Y'know, various normal things that Chazz has never done or been exposed to before.

By the end of the break Chazz is beloved by the entire Rhodes family and their mom insists that he's welcome to come and stay with them again any time, an offer which he accepts gratefully. He'd much rather be here with his closest friends and people that actually seem to genuinley care about him than at home with his brothers.

I submitted a brand-new fanfic starring Hajime Hinata as a sample for an application to be a writer on @everybodyloveshajime. They accepted me, and I'm so stoked to be part of it! The fanfic itself is not compatible with my assignment for the zine, so I figured it'd be fine to post it online. Check out this one-off, about Ibuki telling Hajime that he can hear music in anything and the unintended consequences of that advice. Then keep an eye out for what so many talented artists and writers and I cook up with that zine!

btw when i say "i read 1-2 books per month" what i mean is i finish* a book, i check out a new ebook/audiobook from my library, get halfway through, stop reading (or pick up a different book) until the day it's due and try to binge read it before it expires. and because there's always a hold I just have to check out a new book. so i read a LOT of books at once, just on a cycle holds at the library.
