Seventeen's Love Reading (December)

Time to see what is happening in the members love life for this month. A got 2 request, one for if they are in a relationship and will try to answer here with the cards I get, and the other is who is the most mature and stable, so I will list them by that order, instead of by age, like I usually do, so here we go.

Most of it is by age, because it was very hard for me to go by maturity and stability. Most of their energies are all over the place when it comes to their love life and not many of them seem engaged in a relationship.

S.Coups (The Hierophant/Queen of Pentacles/3 of Pentacles) I will say he comes off pretty stable with this energy. I do see someone here. I am not sure if this is someone in his life or someone he wants. This could be someone he works with. I can see him thinking of marriage with this person, that is interesting. I feel like he works with this person. I believe he sees them as a good team, and they work well together. I see a possible relationship here.

Jeonghan (Knight of Pentacles/The Star/Darkest Fear) I am not seeing someone here. He seems like a stable partner, loyal and dependable. I see him having hope and optimism for a future with a partner. I feel like a relationship will be very healing for him. I do see him having lots of fears and worries about relationships, or his biggest fears will come to light while in relationships. He seems like the type that will be in his head a lot in relationships or overthink and overanalyze things.

Junhui (Queen of Wands/King of Wands/Page of Cups) It seems like he has met his match lol I see him dating someone. He seems like he is having fun. I see a lot of sexual energy here too. I see he and his partner as carefree spirit, down for a good time, and there is lots of passion. I see love here too, probably in the beginning stages. They both can be enamored by each other. It is like in the cute lovey dovey stage, or they just keep the spirit alive. This energy isn't all that stable though, so he may go on the lower end here.

After looking into the other members. I actually have him on the higher end. He did show up as a King, which does show me maturity on some level. This shows how much of a mess the others are lol

Seungkwan (King of Cups/9 of Wands/Trust) Why are most of them so confusing? Now, this KOC's shows emotional maturity and stability. He is a caring and loving partner. This is one of the best cards to get in love readings, but then you get to the 9 of Wands. Relationships can be draining and difficult for him at times. I think the final card is telling him to open up and trust what happens, instead of having his guard up so much, then things will run smoother, and he won't be as stressed. I just think he can get overwhelmed in relationships, but his heart is in the right place. I will put him higher up, because compared to the others. He shows some maturity and stability here.

Just want to say, feel him on this as a fellow Cap, relationships do not come easy for most of us.

Dokyeom (The Moon/7 of Pentacles/Open Up) I say it is hard for him to open up in relationships and maybe show his emotions. He kind of keeps his emotions to himself, so he may not be too vulnerable in love, which is why he may find it difficult to date someone, I feel him on that. I do see stability and maturity in his energy. He seems like a dependable partner, or he would want someone he can trust and depend upon, so he can be able to open up. I think he needs to trust his partner, but also, they need to be patient with him. And show him that you have his back and then he may open up.

Hoshi (Ace of Wands/Ace of Pentacles/Queen of Cups) I do see someone, but not sure he is dating this person. There seems to be sexual attraction there and he sees an opportunity in dating this person, like he thinks it is practical to date this person or be with this person. She seems like a genuine, loving, nurturing and sensitive partner. I don't really know where to put him. He seems mature and stable from readings I have done in the past, but not seeing it much here. It seems he is in the beginning stages of dating now, but I still put him higher, because his is not as messy as the others lol

Woozi (Ace of Wands/The Star/Rest & Reconsideration) He is a bit all over the place here. It seems he may pursue relationships for sexual purposes, or there has to be a spark. He does have hopes and dreams about finding a potential partner. It does seem he can be guarded and hard to get close to though, or he just needs a break from dating to figure himself out. I am not seeing much maturity and stability here though. I don't really see a partner either with him. I put him higher than the others, because the ones below were just messier for me lol

It was very hard to list the rest in order, so winged it by intuitive sense.

Wonwoo (5 of Swords/Justice/9 of Pentacles) So, I am seeing a story here. He seems to struggle in his love life. I am seeing lots of fights with someone, them going to some sort of counseling and therapy together, but he ends up being single and free. I feel right now he may prefer to be single and enjoy his time alone, doing what he likes. It seems he can get into nasty arguments when he is in relationships or things just get messy.

Mingyu (Wheel of Fortune/8 of Wands rv/Flow) I don't see anyone in the picture. It seems he is just going with the flow and seeing what can happen. I see him being single right now. This 8 of Wands rv, gives me lack excitement or anything going on in his love life. When the opportunity comes, he will jump on it, but now he is just enjoying life. I am not sure where to put him. I will put him in the bottom, because I am not sure, he isn't showing immaturity, but I don't see maturity here either.

Minghao (6 of Swords/The Hierophant/5 of Swords) I wonder if the company, or his parents played a role in his love life. The hierophant gives me someone of higher authority. It seems he is trying to move past a difficult relationship and remove the baggage. He still may have lingering thoughts about it. His love life doesn't seem that great right now. It could be challenging for him to date. I will put him on the lower end too, his energy in love is not that stable and not seeing maturity. I mean I can see it with the Hierophant, but I feel that is someone else blocking his chances to date. I do feel he is pretty mature, maybe not in love or his relationships are too unstable for his energy to show maturity. So, he goes on the lower end.

Joshua (7 of Swords/7 of Wands/Throat Chakra) There is some communication issues with him. I see him not wanting to talk about his love life. He seems pretty protective of it, so can't share much here. He might be dating someone in private, but trying to keep that to himself.

Vernon (6 of Swords rv/The Hermit rv/Well Deserved Reward) Why do these guys make no sense, especially his energy here. I see him not knowing how to be alone and work on himself. I see him constantly moving on to the next partner without reflecting on the past, which may lead to bad habits continuing with him. To date someone they got to be worth the effort. He just gives me he doesn't see the fault of his actions in relationships, so there isn't a reason to reflect, just on to the next. He seems to out his best efforts forward. It is so hard to figure out where to put anyone on this list.

Dino (King of Pentacles/Page of Pentacles/Detach) He is not into dating or relationships right now. He is all about his goals and career. I see no interest in love. He actually does show maturity and stability, but this is a love reading and he shows no interest in it from what I am getting, so putting him last for that reason.

Whew that was actually pretty difficult. Their love life is a mess.

Ok, I’m sick of seeing only Netflix posts lately so I’m ranting about Simon lol

Unfortunately I had some nice paragraphs written for this but tumblr crashed while I was writing so this is my second time making this post (TwT)

TL;DR with the rant under a cut for easy scrolling, I am deranged and have studied all of Simon’s outfits, here’s some fun tidbits and I guess kinda a guide about his fashion sense :3

Oh boy, where to start XD. Castlevania has a lot of intricately detailed usually gothic and/or visual kei inspired fashion designs, usually with some amount of historical accuracy, thanks to Ayami Kojima, that the series is known for. But before this, the character design style was very different. From the very 90s shonen anime inspired Richter, to Christopher being deadass shirtless in a skirt at one point, to John Morris being in basically casual clothes, there’s a lot of variety in it.

Well, being the silly Simon super fan I am, I’ve studied all his outfits a ton over the years I’ve been a fan of the series and oh boy they are INTERESTING :3. I’ve noticed a lot of elements are consistently reoccurring, specific to him, and some are very much not specific to him lol. Anyway, just trust me on this one, overanalyzing the closet of an NES barbarian to be able to make new outfits for him is FUN >:3c.

So, I’ve seen him not wearing pants thrown around as a joke before, but it’s actually the truth! Besides the Haunted Castle wedding suit (an outlier that should not be counted lol), I actually have never run into a design where Simon is wearing full length, proper pants. The closest he ever gets is black tights in Simon’s Quest and occasionally shorts, but on that topic, shorts aren’t even his most common choice! Let’s look at some of his oldest designs:

This one is really hard to tell, but based on the angle of the lines, the shadows, and context clues from other art for CV1, I don’t know if that’s actually supposed to be shorts 💀💀💀!

In both his cute little manual doodles and his almost more adorable teeny 8-bit sprite, his outfit is a belted tunic of some sort! So like, the equivalent of a really tiny dress or a long shirt XD. And really, his cover art design is kinda just a more detailed version of these. They both have a distinction between a top and bottom part of the upper half, they both have big belts, they both have the tall boots and arm guards, they both have teeny skirt part, and Fun Fact! They both have red in the hair! I color picked a nice high res scan of the CV1 cover art, and yes, there’s red in his hair!!! It’s like a nice mix of dark reddish blond, it’s a very fun hair color :3.

However, that’s not where CV1 ends in tunic vs shorts debate:

THAT’S A SKORT— DO YOU SEE THAT DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE HALVES, ONE IS DEFINITELY A PANTLEG LMAO. So yeah, skort Simon is also a thing thanks to this particular magazine scan lol, thus leaving us with the possibility that it is both a skirt and shorts on the CV1 cover that he’s wearing X,,,,D. Never change, Simon, never change.

Besides the tunic, there’s some other interesting details to his CV1 era designs! :D In a lot of depictions he has this neat cape, something that returns in some Simon’s Quest art and Smash Bros lol, but he’s never shown wearing it in game. What’s interesting is that Trevor actually gets a cape in his game’s opening as well as Christopher in Belmont’s Revenge if I’m remembering correctly. It’s very neat seeing Simon character design details rubbing off into other characters :3. I like to think lore wise that it’s the same cape that’s been passed down to Simon from those two.

He also has the headband! Iconic! But have you noticed the little ball shapes at the ends of the tails? They’re either knots or, infinitely cooler option, beads :D!!!!!!! And I wouldn’t be surprised if they were because that leads me to another design: X68000–

Now this one is one of my favorites :3. It’s kinda like a forward facing version of his original design but with some new details! And his headband gets this cool lookin, intricate distinctly metallic design on it, something I’ve seen a lot of artists simplify to a general crescent moon shape. But it is kinda similar to the shape on his belt buckle, something that I still have no idea what it’s even supposed to be. Also, his arm guards and the thing at the end of his necklace (which may or may not have vampire teeth on it, they could just be metal spikes though) are similar; it makes me wonder if it was an attempt at a tortoiseshell pattern? Filigree? Whatever it is, they’re all matchy matchy about it.

This design also gives him the staple left shoulder pauldron, of which has these huge stitches holding it on and an added belt that connects to his other belt armor. Get used to belts, he has a lot of those X,,,D. What’s really neat about this one’s belt is that he has both a hilt for the family sword but also one for the whip on the other side, and they’re on the wrong sides for drawing the weapon properly 💀💀💀💀. Which is also funny considering his CV1 cover art has the sword on the other side, which is kinda wrong too? Who knows, maybe he’s ambidextrous and just doesn’t care what sides they’re on lol.

The biggest thing I can say about this design though is that a lot of these accessories and armor pieces look homemade, like as if he just took teeth as a trophy himself and strung them on a cord or made a shoulder piece and put it on an already existing belt he had. Adding onto this, there’s also the possible beads on his headband and the cords around his boots (which could be an attempt at a certain actual historical type of shoe that I cannot remember the name of for the life of me rn, in which case would make these not boots and actually corded shoes with very nice big fluffy socks hehe, I am forcing you to imagine him with big fluffy socks—) and yeah! I can see him making his stuff on his own :3. Which is so cool! I love this idea so much, it makes for a lot of things to imagine him doing hehe. Also gives him a hobby??? Yeah :)

No indication of if he’s got shorts or not in this one, maybe I’ll count how many have skirts or shorts and put that at the end of this lol.

But shorts get another point again cause we’re looking at Chronicles:

Oh Chronicles. Well, the first thing I wanna mention is that, this is Ayami Kojima’s design for him, so here we are seeing a very interesting mix of the visual kei style and 80s barbariancore in a way that honestly slays (figuratively and literally). And, surprisingly, there is something historically accurate about this design, and it’s not what you’d probably expect. Based on the width, material, cross rivets, and the buckle on the front, Simon is wearing an actual dog collar. Like, for dogs. Like it’s dog armor used primarily for hunting dogs I just— Again, never change Simon, never change 💀💀💀.

We also see Simon preferring to put his armor on his left side again with the torn in half coat. It’s also somewhat similar to 1600s coats, not really of any specific country in fashion that I can tell, however the sleeve being that short is not accurate, leading me to believe that he probably tore that off too lol. Very Chrom Fire Emblem of you, Simon, and another example of him D.I.Y.—ing things. The basic elements still stay similar to past designs. Shorts, distinct upper and lower half of shirt, belts, armor on said belt, sword and whip hilts, arm armor and tall boots (shout out to the heels on this one), and armor on the left, unfortunately no headband though. But that distinct bottom half to the shirt part of his outfit in this one is defined with… a corset? Yeah!!! That’s a corset!!! Though the proper name for the time period might be a stay or a girdle, but Simon is straight up wearing a belt over a corset. And said corset over a coat. Half of one. Don’t question him—

But the main entries to his 80s bara-barian half of the wardrobe, let’s get to some knightly aesthetic outfits, of which he does have a good amount, starting with SCV4:

Simon’s knightly outfits are usually a similar silhouette as his original tunic look, just in metal this time and in various colors. SCV4 has his armor as gold on the cover, blue on the Japanese cover and manual art, and green in game! And they’re all pretty much the same with mild variations. On the cover art, his shoes are corded sandals with nothing under them, but in game and in most other artwork they are these metallic boots with the classic X shape of the cords baked into them. Some art gives his middle belt armor section this cross with snakes on it, which is an odd thing to be referencing here. It’s either a staff of Mercury, usually associated now with medicine but was an alchemical symbol before that, or something else I can’t find any info on. There’s also a big ab window because these are all proper half shirts lol. Straight up a metal breastplate with nothing under it, a pretty bad idea tbh 💀.

All in all, these are generally really simple, but there’s one more thing before I stop talking about SCV4:

I LOVE this design. It’s this really nice blend of the older CV1 era style and the metal armor of the later ones, very cool. Shout out to the eye creases and the dead stare shadow over his eyes too, they really conveyed the effects of witnessing the horrors well lmaoooo.

Again, tunic, belt, arm guards, headband, the usual, but, speaking of symbols, there’s something about this one that’s been driving me nuts forever: I cannot find out what that symbol on his paldrons and belt buckle is!!! It’s this upside down triangle with a bent rectangle missing the bottom line over it and it LOOKS distinctly intentional, but I can’t find it or what it means anywhere!!! I tried searching through lists of alchemical symbols, religious symbols, nothing so far has been close (TwT ). Regardless, great design, definitely in my top 5.

And what else is in my top five? Oh yeah babey, it’s Simon’s Quest time:

Ah, Simon’s Quest with his fuck ass bob and the stolen Ravenloft image— but unironically, that armor fucks fr. Again, similar silhouette! If there’s any take aways from this post, it’s definitely that Simon is a little shirt, little pants kind of guy. A severe lack of long sleeves and long pants legs until now, and even then, these are skin tight. Heck even his boots(????) are vacuum sealed, just look at those fabric creases by his ankle!

Now, it’s honestly really hard to tell if his “gloves” and “boots” are supposed to be in some parts metal due to the shading on them and the base armor being very similar. I personally like to depict the forearm and calf parts as metal and the hand and ankle parts as not, but eh. Like most things regarding Simon, I suppose this too is up to interpretation XD. There’s some variation in color in some scans having the underclothes be white, dark blue, or black, and the armor be any range of red to purple to brown too. But towards red and black is probably the most accurate due to his sprite being those colors.

But this is a shockingly rare case of Simon being fully covered in one of his outfits, and I’m inclined to think that there’s probably a reason for that. Not only does he have a rotting curse right now and drawing straight up gore on the cover of an NES game was just not an option lol, but he’s not letting his guard down anymore after being hit. Which would also explain the sudden change to all metal armor as that can’t be cut through as easily as leather.

Speaking of all metal armor, oh I looooove the detailing on his. The gold accents to his byzantine (a nice in between color of red and purple, a color that is also reused in Smash Bros again in the middle corset section of his outfit) are what I would call stylized floral patterns, kinda in the way that fleur de les don’t really look exactly like flowers but still are supposed to represent one. Not sure what kind exactly, but possibly some sort type of angel’s trumpet? Very neat regardless. The gems inlaid in it are all green on top and around the belt, but the center belt buckle is bright red. It’s a very jewel tones color scheme!!!

Well anyway, if tumblr will let me have more images, I’d like to show off a few other random examples of outfit elements he’s had before I close this off with something :3

This was a pretty recently found scan of Simon wearing get this: a pleated miniskirt. Probably Roman armor inspired, as some of his other magazine scans have depicted him as such. One ad for SCV4 and another (live action even) for Simon’s Quest has him even wearing like a Roman helmet and everything, it’s odd. Add helmets to the list of things Simon might wear. Hmm maybe I should make a tier list of things based on how often he’s worn them…

Moving on!

This one goes for the bold choice of giving Simon not only an expected tiny belted tunic, but side slits on the legs! And uh um a little too much detail but uh— It’s also this kinda white, kinda bluish, kinda silverish color? Add this to Simon’s color palette I guess lol.

Which reminds me that I didn’t mention colors very much until now whoops. Throughout all of hie designs he primarily seems to wear neutrals like various browns, greys, and metal tones. But he also has a lot of color. Like as in there’s enough different colored designs to make a whole rainbow of Simon outfits. Common combinations like dark green, gold, and wine reds; blue and silver; brown, gold, orange, and kinda purplish greys; etc etc. And his HAIR. Oh boy, would this guy love modern hair dye X,,,,,D. He’s had it various blonds, reds, browns, even black at one point, blue, green, unnatural red, pink, and in one concept design white! Personally, I like depicting it as a nice in between of red, blond, and brown, it encompasses the most I think.

The final thing I wanna mention is the Smash Bros design, which I unfortunately can’t show because I’m on mobile and have met the 10 images limit whoopsie— (_ _ ;). This design is really a good culmination of a lot of elements. Not really definitive or anything, but very good :3. And it has something I didn’t mention earlier that I’ve noticed in some Simon designs: random belts or metal around his upper arms and thighs lol. The Smash Bros design in particular has the arm band things on both sides, Chronicles has it on the not half coat one, but this is another thing I’ve seen other characters (Christopher in particular, but his are just gold rings) have. The leg thing is less common, but yeah, that exists lol. Thank you Simon for uh bending two pieces of metal around your leg…? It’s cool XD. The corset also makes a return, as well as, once more, the same basic silhouette with the armor only on the left side, the belt armor pieces, etc etc. He’s very particular about that—

Well, anyway, Simon definitely has a vibe going on, but here’s a brief summary of things he seems to like:

Skirts, tunics, long shirts, and shorts (and skorts I guess), but nothing past about half his thigh, generally over the knees.

No long sleeves or pant legs (unless it’s tights when absolutely necessary).

Armor primarily to the left, unless it’s metal, in that case usually a full plate or paldron set.

Belts, hilts, belts on his arms, and neck, and hanging off of things, and legs, yeah belts—

Boots/tall socks, corded or not, and something on his forearms or wrists.

Headband! Seriously out of every Belmont he is the most dedicated to these lol.

Necklaces and beads and other little accessories and adornments are also cool.

Alrighty then, have fun Simon-ing and I encourage you to look through his or other characters’ designs and pick them apart a bit sometimes, even if it’s just through what’s on the wiki :3. If anything, I think it’s a good exercise in character design and consistency! But yeah, I wrote all this late at night and can’t think of anything else rn. If I do I’ll do a sequel I guess hehe. Either that or I might rant about another character hmmmmmmm—

while we’re all waiting in desperation for tristamp s2, i want to talk about meryl in the aftermath/time skip of ep 12 because it’s taken over my mind (tristamp s1 spoilers under the cut)

oh btw if i get any details wrong please let me know POLITELY. i will cry at u if ur mean >:(

i love the way they show how much roberto’s death has affected meryl. over the span of two years, she’s picked up a lot of his mannerisms and habits. she refers to milly as a newbie like he did with her, her tone of voice in this scene is very reminiscent of his, hell even the way she dresses in this scene could be another way she’s mirroring him.

however, i don’t think any of this is a conscience decision on meryl’s part. to me, this is meryl’s way of coping with roberto’s death. she’s trying to keep her guard up to suppress the pain and grief she still feels. it’s still hitting her hard, two years later.

(fun fact: there’s actually a psychological term for this! it’s called the chameleon effect. it’s a phenomenon when you subconsciously mimic other people’s behaviors, gestures, etc. it’s usually something that happens in social situations, but i think this could also apply to meryl)

with milly being introduced in s2, i think a big part of meryl’s character arc this upcoming season will be her trying to keep up this cold, distant persona around milly, trying not to get too close to her because she doesn’t want to get hurt if anything happens to her. then, milly will be the one to make her realize that that mentality is stupid (for lack of better words), directly or indirectly. then near the end of the season, she’ll face her grief head on (knowing this show, it’ll probably in some beautifully symbolic way), come to terms with roberto’s death and finally learn how to move on and become the meryl stryfe we all know and love.

do think that this will be her whole arc in s2? kinda, yea. but we won’t really know until it drops……….hopefully sometime near the end of this year.

am i looking too far into this? probably, but this was just my interpretation of the aftermath and my predictions for the future.

there are probably a lot of factors im not considering since i haven’t finished the manga (no spoilers please) but hey, there’s no harm in overanalyzing.

either way, i would love to hear everyone else’s thoughts about this scene, or if you have any predictions for tristamp s2. if you’ve made it this far, thanks for listening to me rant :^)

So these seams have been noticeable for a while, and ALSO for the last few matches Cody's been wearing what appear to be boxer briefs under his tights instead of his usual snug looking under trunks:

I just finished watching SnapCube's fandub of The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog and the freaking ENDING, where Alfred shows up to voice Eggman was a real treat, lol. Tbh, their fandubs and the horror side of the Sonic fandom (like Sonic.EXE and a few other stories), and The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog are the only thing keeping me in the Sonic fandom at this point.

The train's a freaking platonic yandere for the Conductor and I love it, lol.

Okay, jokes aside, I really like that they touched upon toxic friendships at the end, even if it was in an April Fool's game. Like, for an April Fool's game, it was surprisingly well made and thought out. A lot of Sonic games, as well as games intended for children in general, emphasize friendship as an important part of life, but never really touch much on the toxic side of it. I don't know if Sonic has touched on it before (as I said, I am hanging on by a thread when it comes to the Sonic fandom) but it was very nice to see it brought up. They even foreshadowed the twist with the train in the beginning by bringing up how the Conductor had a long history with it, having him treat it like an old friend, and bringing up all the amazing things that the train could do. Which, well, a normal train wouldn't be advanced enough to do half the things this train does. It still has enough reasonable doubt by the fact that, well, it's Sonic! Advanced technology would be perfectly plausible in the Sonic universe!

The art was also very pretty, too! I love the little designs they gave the characters so much! Character design in general makes me a happy little fella, and each of their costumes has so much character to them! Even the Conductor, too. When I first started watching, I though for sure that the Conductor would be a twist villain, due to the shadows over his eyes. It gave him a slight "I am a shady fellow due to my mysterious look", as well as a cliche "shadows over eyes are a villain thing" vibe. However, after learning that he wasn't a twist villain, whenever I look back on it, the shadows kinda give off a more "weary and tired" look. It shows how the years of working on the train has worn him out and he is ready to leave his old friend and retire.

While I would personally have trouble playing it due to the ring collecting parts giving me a headache from just watching it, it is still a treat to just watch others play it and see the story pan out. I usually watch people play games, anyways, so I guess I am just more used to enjoying media vicariously through others, lol. I much prefer to theorize and psychoanalyze than to play the games myself.

Anyways sorry for my short rant I was just made very happy by the stream and the game itself, lol. I love to overanalyze media, knowing full well that there was probably not as much thought put into it as I am thinking about it. You know? It's fun to me.

Learning About Biology Doesn’t Have to Be Hard

Disclaimer, I’m not saying that this makes you an expert, or is any substitute for school and furthering your education on biology but it is a simple and fun way to learn difficult concepts that feel out of reach.

While school is always helpful for learning science and you learn many great things, for instance just this year I found out finally how organs work (I am unsure if I’m better or worse for knowing how digestion works, I know it’s a natural process but knowing my food is turning to bolus in my mouth feels like cursed knowledge), sometimes the way it’s taught just doesn’t register. There are many different ways of learning topics and it all depends on your learning style, interests, education, and what you like to do.

What works for me may not work for you, and even if it does you still need school if you want a full understanding, this is just a fun way to learn about evolution.

Now with that aside, let me explain what the hell I’m actually talking about.

As a young child I’d always had an extreme interest in zoology, evolution and fantasy, which of course led me to the very interesting niche type of fiction known as speculative zoology/biology.

What that is, for those who don’t know, is when a writer creates biologically feasible creatures using evolution as a framework, some famous examples of this are C.M. Kosemen’s “All Tomorrows”, the game “Subnautica” and Dougal Dixon’s “Man After Man”. Those stories are pretty specifically dedicated to only speculative biology and not so much plot although there usually is one especially in All Tommorows and Subnautica. I’m sure a lot of you reading this will know at least one of those works.

However, while those projects will teach you biology, and lots of it, they’re more about the results than the process, and they’re also not what I’m talking about.

There is a series on YouTube known as “Alien Biospheres” by the creator Biblaridion. While I would say I learned a lot of things from a lot of places, some things from random videos about animals, some from school, some from really liking spore as a little kid because my parents introduced me to it, some from speculative biology projects like the previously mentioned ones, I’d actually attribute most of my biological knowledge to the series.

Alien Biospheres takes you on a journey as the creator creates an ecosystem from the ground up, starting in a collaborative video with another great science creator, Artifexian (who you should also very much watch) with creating the alien planet itself. From that point on, starting with single celled organisms, he creates a world populated with hundreds of creatures that all seem very possible and interesting. As he goes, he explains the concepts and principles guiding evolution, and how each trait could evolve from what is already there.

You’ll learn about atmospheres, body plans, how flying works, the square cube law, and many other important factors to biology, all presented with the framework of building a creative and unique feeling world. For me, this was always the perfect way for it to be displayed in a way that was easily understandable, but not too oversimplified to the point you really aren’t learning anything.

His videos are the reason I can overanalyze and create theories on unexplained details of many creatures, and create my own biologically feasible (although objectively far more fantastical and unrealistic) monsters.

His videos may not work for you how they worked for me, but if you like biology, zoology, evolution, speculative biology/zoology, or fantasy creatures I would recommend at least giving his videos a try.

Again, I must say that they are a starting point and you still need an education on the topic if you want to be an expert.

However you should go out there and give it a try, Alien Biospheres helped shape my understanding of the world and it might help you too.

so here's an abridged version of my CP for CP Awareness: I was a preemie twin & because of too much amiotic fluid among other things my twin didn't make it. we were born 3 months early and I spent I think 4 months (something like that) in the nicu. there was also a virus that I forgot the name of that I caught while there and almost didn't make it but mom always said I had the best nurses. with the CP I also have schizencephaly which is missing 2 pie shaped pieces of my brain. usually that comes with seizures, blindness, & many other things but I was lucky enough not to have any of that. that's very rare, much less with my combo of everything else. I also am very hard of hearing. was borderline as a kid & now way below borderline lol. the thing I miss the most is birds chirping. I have very high emotions which is both a gift & curse. I empathize with people very well but also worry very easy & overanalyze. sometimes though even if I cry it's not always an emotional reaction, just something that happens, alot of people don't understand that. however mom said when I was little I was able to understand what non-verbal kids needed just by looking at them, even saved one of their lives once. as with most I couldn't talk right at first so mom said I made up my own language with noises, enough that a med student did her thesis with a tape we recorded. I learned to do everything by being around grown ups so much, especially cooking. we didn't have much so we created our own fun like a sandbox in the kitchen, free music in the park, making our own recipies. I was in both mainstream & special ed and like most kids had alot of friends when I was little, but once I hit highschool I had none. I tried to fit in with the other kids, even went to some sports stuff, but that only led to bad experiences of getting bullied by the football team for 2yrs including several concussions. however I graduated with honors & used my walker to go across the stage which is all my mom wanted. I am a homebody which sometimes limits me in things to do during the day except play with the cat (especially now with my mom gone), but the choice to stay home is mine. I know, save the lecture, but we always said we put in the time & effort during school years and now what I do is enough. plus as you get older CP makes you feel old lol. and that's about it! I love to talk but am a good listener, crime shows, disney movies and 60s music, cooking & art!

Since I've been getting a few followers and a bit more requests, I figured that I should introduce myself, so--

Hello, nice to meet you, I'm Rae (they/he).

I write sometimes, and here I obviously write for The Outsiders. Usually, I stick to headcanons and bullet points. I ramble, but prose isn't really my thing on the regular. I might take a while on requests. I have major issues reading (ironic for a writer) and I really had proof-reading driven into me growing up, so bigger pieces (alphabets, prompts that cover a lot, etc) may take a few days. Oops.

I take requests for general headcanons, alphabets, x reader headcanons, and similar.

Since I'm nonbinary and I like to be reader too, most of my work will stay gender neutral by default. Feel free to request a fem!reader, but for broader headcanons that cover bigger audiences not much would change gender-wise. Anything smutty is afab by default because that's what I know best and am working with, but I'm willing to try amab!reader upon request.

With prose, short stories, dialogue prompts, and such, I'll write them if I want but I probably won't take many requests. I just need to be in the mood for that, I'll probably open temporary prompt challenges. Like, those "send me a prompt from this list and a character" types, but generally it isn't what I feel comfortable wit or enjoy doing.

Also, I'm asexual. I'll do smutty headcanons, I love talking about kink (it's one of my special interests), but I probably won't do much if any smut-centric prose. I just don't see sex in a way that lends to writing, I can rattle off headcanons like fun facts and play with a very limited set of dynamics but I struggle to relate to it in a way that doesn't feel hollow. Like, I can tell you what I think a character would be like in bed but I can't make myself be them, if that makes sense? Sorry, I know that's a big draw in x reader stuff.

While fluff is my main jam, or maybe angst to fluff, I also don't mind writing on darker topics. I have no hard limits with themes, I'll add warnings if needed but I like my fair share of "dead dove" content and no happy endings.

Yubisaki to Renren Anime Episode 8 and 9 Review - Friends and Lovers.

Back to the lovely world of Yubisaki to Renren, this time covering episodes 8 and 9. As usual there will be spoilers. Also I just noticed while I was finishing this that the flags match the colors of one of the characters they are nearby. If I wanna go into overanalyzing mode maybe the flag positioning symbolizes how Yuki and Rin are very close without any issues between them while the green flag being between Kyouya and Itsuomi symbolizes how there is actually a hidden rift between them. Who knows… I don’t actually think there is anything to the latter while the adorable friendship between the former is very clear. 

Every single character in this show is gorgeous at all times, even in casual mode. We got deep into Shin’s backstory in episode 8, with it explaining Itsuomi’s relationship with him as well as his relationship with Emma. What I am taking away from Shin’s character is that he is very insecure, feeling inferior to Itsuomi. And that still seems to be affecting him now. Both in high school and in the present day, even with Itsuomi being off the table romantically he is unable to be honest with his feelings towards Emma. He is unwilling to be honest because he is assuming he would never be picked over Itsuomi even if he is not available. The girl Shin was dating in high school hit the nail on the head, he tried to use another girl to get over it but clearly could not shake his feelings. This leads to a one sided relationship that she is understandably upset by.

The above dramatic line goes to show how deep his insecurity runs, where he can directly lie to everyone when he has the perfect chance to be honest. This can also be seen as his speaking this out loud to try to convince himself that this is how he should think. I have struggled a lot with an inferiority complex, especially in high school, so I can relate to where he is coming from. It makes it even harder to change the status quo they are stuck in after Emma remarks on how nice their relationship is. The character animation continues to be really good in this episode, the way Shin’s mouth moved when he was hesitating to tell her how he feels accentuates the emotion of the scene by better matching the voice acting. This is a struggle that looks like it will continue amidst everyone else having very successful romantic pursuits as we see in episode 9. 

This is my favorite outfit of the ones they showed at the beginning of episode 9, I love her hair with the black shirt. One thing that a series can do to really engross me in their world and characters is showing them with lots of different outfits in their daily lives. It breathes a lot of life into the characters, making them feel more natural and real. I appreciate when characters don’t seem like they must have a closet full of the same outfit they wear pretty much every day, and have no interest in fashion or expressing themselves. It also gives the audience more displays of the character’s identity and personality. How much this matters can depend on the show, but for slice of life and romance I really think this can make a big difference on immersion. If the characters are in situations where you are constantly looking at them in largely static ways, it is easier to pick up on details like this. In a romance show it can especially matter because they are in situations where they want to look attractive, stand out more or less, etc. It is also better on the fundamental level of making the visuals less samey. Different outfits can be a notable way for people to remember segments of the story too. Another show that does this really well is Demon Girl Next Door. I’m really happy to see this concept that I'm fond of being present in Yubisaki to Renren. 

The sign language bootcamp is such a fun idea that fits perfectly for the characters. This was a great way to create new situations for the characters to be in for romantic shenanigans that feels like a completely natural outing for them. We got some notable progress between Rin and Kyouya and some sweet moments between Yuki and Itsuomi. I adore the moment when they point out random objects in their vicinity and have Yuki translate them. It was so natural and funny. We also got to make the point again of how seriously Itsuomi takes learning sign language while the others are trying but not as serious. 

The mature tone that the show carries when it comes to the romance really comes through with the conversation between Kyouya and Rin. Kyouya has the perspective of someone older (they apparently have not confirmed his exact age so I am gonna go with my gut and assume he is around 6+ years older than them) who is not looking to go through the motions of playing the romance game with lots of people. He was previously in a long term relationship and that is seemingly what he desires. He is the type of person who would only put the time and energy into attempting a relationship with someone he could take seriously. This is a feeling I know resonates with a lot of older people who have moved past the type of thinking you see in romance involving younger characters. The point of not wanting to spend the energy on romance is a feeling a lot of people in general can relate to. It takes a lot of mental energy that is already taken up by everything else in life, which I appreciate the show acknowledging. The maturity of the characters is also shown with Emma directly shutting down her coworker rather than letting his advances drag on. 

Continuing with the above point of emotionally mature characters, It's so nice seeing characters be direct with their feelings in a romance. Kyouya wasn’t certain if he was picking up on her intentions or not, but when presented with the chance he made the effort to bring it up and get the confirmation. Rin was nervous around him but when the situation came up she came right out with her feelings in a way that fit the conversation. He even opens up about his deeper feelings, such as feeling jealous over the phone call and being childish. That last point felt perfect, as even more mature adults still have their issues and insecurities. He may be notably older than the rest of the main cast but he still has things he can be immature over. It’s very satisfying to see characters be emotionally open and vulnerable when they have taken the time to have that openness feel earned through their friendship. I was afraid her twisting her ankle would be used to put off this conversation, but it didn’t really do that. While we did not get a clear answer as to if they are now dating, they both clearly made the feeling known to each other that they are interested in giving it a chance. And I am totally fine with their relationship moving forward in that kind of context. It does not need to be as black and white as dating or not, with their feelings known I am under the impression that they are going to see where things go naturally. Which is a valid way of growing closer romantically. I’m glad we got this focus on Kyouya that really gave us the first proper glimpse into who he is deep down, and excited to see where it goes. Honestly I was not expecting things to go this way. I thought Kyouya was not going to be interested. I correctly picked up on Kyoya’s not being as gung ho about romance, but did not think he was going to be interested in Emma. I do not oppose this development though. And at the end we get just a bit back into Oushi who is also harboring long held feelings that are not being made known. More on that next episode.

And that’s another 2 great episodes covered. This show continues to not have a single dip in quality or have anything I feel critical about. I can’t wait for more! Thanks for reading!
