This morning I received revelation while listening to Metallica's cover of 'Turn the Page' (Bob Seger, 1971). And the revelation was:
If 'Easy Rider' (Dennis Hopper, 1969) were made today, it would be about trans people.
I SAID WHAT I SAID.
I will double down and say 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' and 'To Wong Foo' were, in their a-little-confused-but-got-the-spirit way, attempts at fix-it sequels where the social, sexual and gender outlaws on a road trip *don't* all die at the hands of frightened social conservatives (spoilers, sorry).
Fear and hatred of the counterculture was dripping with gender panic, from would-be mothers having free love on the Pill to would-be breadwinners growing their hair long and becoming hippies. The main characters are called "queers" and told to cut their hair, and I don't think the moral of the story is that what happens to them is only bad because they fucked women after all.
"So you walk into this restaurant, strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you as you're shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you, but you just want to explode
Most times you can't hear them talk, other times you can
All the same old clichés: "Is it woman? Is it man?"
And you always seem outnumbered, you don't dare make your stand
Make your stand"

ootd features the words "black dress" in its lyrics and people are like oh! this is a reference to another group's song, "black dress"!
i'm unwell.
#shrimp thoughts#also 'you people just Don't Understand' part 2: apparently there will be Part Two. just like with gee idle's allergy and queen/card#which. lol. apparently 'when allergy came out people were shocked because the it was basically 'if you're ugly tough shit just get a#surgery' but once queen/card came out everything was clear!' and like. how was it clear. what was clear.#one song is 'boo hoo i'm so ugly i hate looking at myself in the mirror and no one likes me i should get plastic surgery'#and the other is like 'ya hoo i'm so hot and sexy i'm like these two western celebrities!!!! i'm so cool i'm twerking on the runway'#kp/op kinda sucks balls in that it's like.... musical equivalent of tjlc crossed with marvel. it's basic ass pop made to sell except with a#faux deep garnish. and sometimes the garnish stands on its own! like if you take guerrilla it's clear that there's actually no deeper or#more detailed philosophy behind it. it's not really n.o where the 'rebellion' was actually supposed to be against something concrete#it's like. we want to feel! we don't want... not to feel! but the sound and visuals are strong enough that you don't mind it#like fuck yeah the lads are staging a revolution now! and now they're outlaws in a western! sort of! and now it's alice in wonderland!#but v often the companies actively make use of the fact that kp/op stans will obsessively look for Depth and Serious Themes in their#cultural reset slaying sotys. a girl looks at a butterfly? oh the song is about having an identity crisis like in that one poem about a guy#dreaming about being a butterfly. it's actually very deep and you can see it was all planned because there was a little butterfly icon#above the tracklist. and the fans get so attached to their headcanons theories and interpretations that they don't stop for a second#to check if there was anything in the 'text' in the first place#remember that one magritte post? this is also how kp/op stans interpret things. she wears a blue dress here and blue is the color of summer#and summer is when you have holidays and don't have to go to school! so by this blue dress she's trying to say that you should love#yourself and strive to be the best version of yourself by embracing your hobbies and extracurricular interests. this is so genius 😭

PirateAU! Miguel x Mermaid! Reader
Thanks to @sarapaprikas-blog for the idea ❤️✨. Been loving to experience with different AU'S lately ✨. Hope you like!
Tumblr media
Warnings: Mild angst and historical figure mentions, implied mysticism ~
Prologue ✨
Pt. 2
As far as history was told, the sea had been the biggest grave in the world. Countless men, nations and civilizations perished under the might of the ever infinite sea. Not many dared to venture, after all, the stories of countless ships sunk under behemoth waves reached through all dry land known.
But that didn't stop the greatest empires to expand and colonize newly discovered lands thanks to years of observation. Many thought of the sea a living being, a being that could be tamed or at least controlled enough to small civilizations to be born in lands people only dreamed of.
However, as the sea earned it's title of a living creature, the mysticism around it grew. Many believed the sea was a she, and bringing a woman on board only made her jealous. A common belief among outcasts and pirates. Something that was debunked as the golden age of piracy advanced.
But even so, the word spread around was that the sea favored female pirates better than men. Lagertha, Mary Read, Anne Bonnie, Zheng Shi, Grace O'Malley, to name a few of the most iconic pirates that against all, conquered, navigated, commanded and plundered at their contempt.
Many believed that they had done a pact with the devil himself, but others strongly believed that there were creatures below that left no trace once the women settled for a target. Mermaids.
Creatures often described as the beauty of death itself embodied. Beautiful women luring men to their inevitable deaths. Something, that some men longed for, and feared by others. The rumor was that if you caught a mermaid alive, the creature was bound to grant you a wish.
But for Miguel, they were nothing but myths and lies. A once young and naive self had ventured in the sea to find one, so he could cure his daughter once the land medics had abandoned all hope. And so he did, once his little girl had closed her twinkling innocent eyes, full of dreams, forever.
He was a changed man after that. He didn't allow his men to talk about such nonsensical things in his ship, Reina Gabriela, and poor of the man that was caught red handed. Reason had gotten him where he was, a feared outlaw among the Spaniards and English folk alike. Not by his overall intimidating looks, but the ruthless and cunning of his attacks.
The Red Eyed Demon, they called him.
------
Miguel had settled the route towards an island that promised a proper restock of his resources. He would let his men unwind, he'd probably spend the night away with a well prepared courtesan. The type of woman that knew how to entertain him beyond the physical ways, once they were on land.
By sunset, he would be landing. The island itself wasn't a problem, the inhabitants of it were. At least for him, full of highly superstitious people, that were always showering him in foul smelling concoctions, lung itching fumes and heavy charms of protection to "cleanse the spirit of anything that could drag you and your ship down".
Isla del Sol, or Sunny Island as many called it, was like a secret hideway-paradise for Pirates that stopped by to rest. Opposite from what the Spaniards and English believed, the Island was run under the command of a council of five.
A retired English commander that did better as a pirate than a law enforcer named Edward, A Spaniard pirate well versed in the arts of administration named Xavier, A jamaican man which eloquence only rivaled the Queen's erudites themselves named Toussaint, An asian woman trained in the arts of killing and weaponry named Sheng Hyun, and a white haired chaman whose wisdom was often seeked by the rest.
So far the island had worked and thrived under their command. They had even asked Miguel to join them, because of his strategic and cunning mind. But of course, he refused. A man like him wasn't easily bound to bureaucratics, even though, ironically he had strict rules in his ship.
His men were loyal, after all, Miguel took proper care of his crew. Well fed, healthy, well armed, and now, well rested. Reina Gabriela approached the docks and soon the men worked. Some put the extended sails away, others put the weaponry in their place, others cleaned and so on. Everyone had a role aboard, and Miguel made sure for them to accomplish it.
He threw a small pouch of gold to a nearby man to watch over his ship as he was out. The island felt like another city, but difference was, that inside land there were no guards, no laws that didn't benefit them. And if anyone caused a ruckus, Sheng Hyun was sent to deal with it, personally.
His men scattered around, except for the quarter master, the cook, weaponry master, Navy Engineer and doctor. They discussed briefly the upgrades for the ship, new dishes to the menu, and new places to get weapons, medicines and sturdier woods from. He dismissed them once everyone had their list, then he was alone.
His feet took him nearby the merchants as they exposed their goods to everyone passing by. Guards uniforms, royal weapons and wax seals perfect for an unsuspecting ruse, medicines, a new type of powder that was a bit more waterproof, Chinese explosives, sedating darts, portraits of naked royal women, some gemstones, and of course, luck charms and talismans.
He scoffed as his eyes rolled at the various trinkets. He had to admit that whoever came with these ideas had found a gold mine that relied in people's blind faith, probably would shake their hand if he ever knew who it was. One trinket stood out from the rest.
It was an iridescent pearl, a quarter size of his palm, along some black and pearly scales protuding ontop. There was no chain around it to be worn, the merchant noticed him staring at the trinket and smiled.
"Good if y'wanna catch a mermaid. They love shiny things."
Miguel looked at him with an eyebrow quirked and a skeptical look.
"You seem confident enough to sell these... crafts."
"Ah, another nonbeliever. Tis'fine mate. I've dealt with so many like you before. Mostly of the non believing part roots from something denied to you in the past. Am'i'rite?"
Miguel's jaw clenched softly at the boldness of the man. He looked like the typical merchant with shady business on the side.
"Leave this man alone, Joseph." The chaman of the council spoke behind Miguel as she took the pearl in her old, wrinkled hands.
"Come" He motioned Miguel to follow. Despite being a highly spiritual woman, the council's chaman did not pressure him into believing, but rather spoke to him sometimes in riddles. Riddles that he grew tired of eventually. He followed.
"A surprise to find you watching these sort of trinkets, Miguel."
"Hard to not when they get stranger and colorful each time I come here."
The elder lady hooked her arm on his as she supported on Miguel, that secured her as he walked next to her.
"I'd be grateful if you wouldn't speak about anything mystic tonight."
"Wasn't my intention, boy. But I must say, you've got quite the eye for these things. It's a real pearl, if you wish to sell it."
Miguel kept walking, being led by the chaman.
"Or I could gift it to a mermaid" Miguel chuckled and the lady looked at him with curious eyes.
"Well, to do such thing, you'd have to find one first."
"I won't, cause they're not real."
The chaman smiled smugly at him.
"What would you do if your homeland got infested with rotting bodies, blood and so many other unpleasant things continuously?"
"I'd look for a new home." he humored, but the lady only nodded in approval.
"And what kind of home you'd look for?"
"One that wasn't near the cities or civilization. Probably a secret manantial or even a virgin island"
The lady smiled
"Congratulations, Miguel. You now have the first lead into finding a mermaid."
"You can't expect me to believe such things."
"No lo espero, pero sé que tu curiosidad por dichas criaturas ha aumentado. ¿Qué es lo deseas tener?" (I don't, but I know for sure that your curiosity for such creatures have peaked your interest. What is it you long for?)
Miguel looked down at the lady, wistfully and she rubbed his arm comfortingly. Like a grandma would.
"My dear. Mystical creatures can only do so much, Miguel. Sadly, bringing back the dead isn't something they can do."
"No sabes de lo que hablas. No me conoces" (You don't know what you are talking about. You don't know me)
He seethed the last words as his grip abandoned the lady. His body tensed when the chaman reached out again to take his large hand.
"Loss is part of our lives, Miguel" Her wrinkled hands put the pearl in his hand, hers covered his warmly, pushing the trinket further in his hands, "And we all move on eventually. Life is full of wonders, and who knows, maybe what you find ahead in your path is exactly what you need"
He nearly growled as another riddle was added to the list.
"Te dije que te dejaras de-" (Thought I told you to quit the-)
His mouth gaped slightly, the lady was gone. He was left alone with the pearl in his hand, "Acertijos..." (Riddles...) he sighed and stared at the pearl, to then tuck it back on his pocket.
What was he longed for?

FINAL POLL OF ROUND 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
Glynis Johns (Mary Poppins, The Court Jester)—LISTEN, I'd let that woman's voice with all its gravely hoarseness (positive) wash over me all goddamn day, but if that's not enough she managed to play the straight woman to Danny Kaye's jester, all with her cleavage so plunging it might as well have been catapulted into the ocean right after Basil Rathbone
Meena Kumari (Sharada, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam)— Meena Kumari was Indian actress and poet, regarded as the "Tragedy Queen of Bollywood" due to her legendary performances in emotionally charged roles. Using words from her biographer: "She had many dimensions — she read poetry, had many literary friends, [and] aspired to the higher life." Meena had an incredibly difficult life, and translated this pain into her volatile acting performances. She is an artist beloved and revered by her fans.
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Glynis Johns:
Tumblr media
She walks the line between sexy and cute. Her best role for me is in "The Court Jester as Maid Jean. She's fantastic as the soft but tough captain of the outlaw band and she looks stunning in every gown she wears throughout the film. And of course we can't forget her iconic turn as the suffragette mother, Mrs. Banks, in Mary Poppins! Also shoutout to her distinctive and beautiful voice, kind of smoky and husky. Extremely hot and set her apart from many of her peers."
Tumblr media
"She was amazing in Mary Poppins (the Suffragette song is severely underrated) and apparently she was Welsh? National pride! And she advocated for arts funding in Wales, which is very cool. Also, she died recently (RIP) making her one of the last survivors of the Golden Age of Hollywood, according to Wikipedia. Also also, she just has a cheeky energy I like? And her eyes are beautiful!"
"She had this wonderful wit and charm to her no matter the role and the most distinctive, striking voice!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I mean, incredibly beautiful and talented, can do drama can do comedy. And she was a mermaid."
"Like Bette Davis she has eyes to die for. Unlike Bette Davis you felt comforted by them, even when she was batting her eyelashes at you. Would glady go to Downing Street with her and throw things at the Prime minister"
Tumblr media
"Listen, listen. I was raised on Mary Poppins and "Votes for women! (step in time)" single-handedly taught me how to be a feminist. Also The Court Jester is one of my favourite movies of all time and she is UNBELIEVABLY gorgeous, charismatic, funny, and clever in it. She knocks several men out. Absolute icon."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I love Glynis Johns. Most of the reason is The Court Jester where she's a sensible and capable foil to whatever what going on with Danny Kaye at the time. She was also the first star I based an OC on. An OC that I still have to this day! Anyway here have some YouTube links love u bye"

Today I wanna take a break, because it is Pride Month and we lost an icon sadly far, far too quietly. Made me realize I don't think I've really heard much about Lynn Conway in queer circles for a long time. And honestly? That's fucked. If anyone deserves to be held up as a trans luminary of the past century it's her. I wish I had the knowledge of computer chips to fully explain how landmark her contributions were in her career, but truth is her story as a trans woman is what's truly fascinating.
If I have the details right, tried to transition during college in the 50s but ran into hurdles. Then got a job at IBM, fired when she sought out Harry Benjamin (another important name y'all need to quit glossing over) and was one of his patients in the late 60s. Transitioning before 30 and if I may say, being quite attractive...even when I was coming out in the 00s the general wisdom was if you could go "stealth" and just start over you should. Which Lynn did. Then went on to make some groundbreaking waves in computer chip design and really had this hellacious 30-year career as just a woman breaking barriers in tech. Keep in mind no one knew she was trans, ain't no way she'd have ended up working with Reagan's DoD on some Cold War defense tech if that was public knowledge.
Then at the end of her career, a new chapter began. Got out ahead of realizing some people were about to make the connection to her time at IBM so came out publicly through a website I remember being a pivotal find in my own journey. It was one of the best collection of resources out there and her story was one of the first ones I saw where you could transition and not be stuck in some small box forevermore because of it. You can shrug off the blowback and get on with your life. Ever heard of Blanchard & Bailey, the Autogyneophilia guys TERFs love to quote? Conway was a prominent academic speaking out against their dodgy methodology as well. Her lengthy and through takedown of that Man Who Would Be Queen book is fuckin legendary. Honestly, if you can find the old archived pages from her website it's worth a read. We don't really have many stories of like, a long life after transition without also being a mainstay of the community the whole time. There's a lot she'd get roasted for today, but generally for the wrong reasons because holy shit is my revisit showing so much honesty and stuff I've needed to hear at a similar point. We get so focused on the actual coming out and exploring and transitioning phase people miss that's just the baby steps on a lifelong journey. I miss how straightforward this old guard could be. In my experience queer youth today love it but it will absolutely enrage the late-blooming final wave of my own generation who lack so much perspective on how little the difference makes at this point.
I know it's fun to raise up queer names who were outlaws and radicals, everyone loves the (false) story of Marsha Johnson throwing the first brick at Stonewall more than her tireless decades of boring organizing. We like our fabulous and festive faces, but honestly...younger generations of trans folk should probably pay a little more attention to stories like Lynn Conway's where we actually do sometimes get to just have a "normal" and highly successful bulk of our lives after the identity struggle. So far ahead of her time it took until my own generation for us to see the whole having an experience more like hers.

SHOULD TOBY FOX BE PRESIDENT??
Heres the pros and cons
Pros
1. He made a game all about befriending your enemies.
He's a natural at building bridges so he may be able to repair any hard feelings between countries that the US cut off in the past.
2. He's a business man
Toby is self employed and has people who works under him. He started from the bottom. He worked on his first game in someone's basement. He earned his success.
3. He's great at money management and project planning
He made undertale pretty much on his own and organized any assistance he needed. He's great working on teams and had done many collaborations.
4. He likes the girls and the gays!!
Toby would let us all be trans and queer. He has 2 lesbian couples in his games, a non binary main protagonist, and is a total mommas boy. He wouldn't wanna take away her rights.
5. He doesn't hate drag queens
Toby has been seen wearing skirts and dresses as costumes or cosplays. He's worn makeup and dresses for costumes.... so he wouldn't hate someone for doing the same.
6. He supports the environment
Toby has a degree in environmental science. Why would he get a degree in that if he didn't believe in global warming? He would help repair the environment and make our country more echo friendly. As a science major he knows vaccines aren't fake and would be a great role model.
7. He slips under the discrimination radar
This is cynical, but based on Toby's appearance, he has advantages in the political world. "Straight looking," pale skinned, rich, Christian, cisgender man who went to a prestigious college. So, heck... he'd get a chance even if he genuinely sucked because politics are rigged. Even if he thought Hulu was part of Hawaii and they made a streaming service... he would still make it to the finals.
Don't let anyone find out he's a dress wearing autistic furry that makes songs about mpreg.
8. He has a great education
Toby went to a college that focuses on law and business. There's a chance that he took some classes on the side about those subjects.
9. He's a level headed guy and stays out of drama
Toby's never gotten caught up in drama and he's not a trouble starter. He'd never initiate a war.
10. G-n outlaws
We already know that Toby isn't enthusiastic about violence and believes in thinking before hurting. He would totally make more anti g-n proposals
11. He loves animals
He'd totally help prevent animal cruelty and k1ll shelters. Toby literally thinks he's a dog...
12. He hates taxes
He grew up in New Hampshire so moving to Boston must have been a shocker. He might be able to make taxes more reasonable, or do something useful with the money.
13. Japan loves him
His buddies in Japan (zun, sakurai, etc) have said Toby blends right in with the people in Japan. He's very polite. SUPER important.
14. He's young
He's level headed and isn't fucked on dementia medication while making life altering decisions for the next generation. He's involved and up to date with modern culture, and knows what people want.
15. He's a cutie
Must I say more?
Tumblr media
16. He's a cultural icon
Gen z would vote for him cause they already know Toby's great. Plus everyone who doesn't care about politics would find it hilarious to see toby in the white house.
Why toby shouldn't be president
1. He's too short to see over the podium
2. He's stage fright
3. He'd eat the declaration of independence
4. He doesn't want to be
5. No more delrarune :(

Deep dives into folklore: Scottish folklore
Tumblr media
Scottish folklore is a rich tapestry woven with threads of ancient traditions, mythical creatures, and supernatural tales that have endured through the centuries. Rooted in the land's rugged landscapes, tumultuous history, and vibrant culture, Scottish folklore offers a captivating journey into the heart of a nation's imagination. This week we delve into the depths of Scottish folklore, exploring its origins, key themes, prominent characters, and enduring impact on the cultural identity of Scotland.
Origins and Influences:
The origins of Scottish folklore can be traced back to the early Celtic and Gaelic traditions that thrived in the region. These ancient beliefs were deeply connected to the natural world, with a profound respect for the land, sea, and sky. As Christianity spread across Scotland, it blended with existing folklore, giving rise to a unique fusion of pagan and Christian elements.
The landscape itself plays a crucial role in shaping Scottish folklore. The misty moors, rugged mountains, and mysterious lochs provided the perfect backdrop for tales of otherworldly encounters. From the verdant Lowlands to the remote Highlands, each region contributed its own distinct flavor to the rich tapestry of Scottish folklore.
Key Themes:
Faeries and Spirits: One of the central themes in Scottish folklore is the presence of magical beings such as faeries, brownies, and selkies. These creatures inhabit the hills, glens, and lochs, playing both benevolent and mischievous roles in the lives of mortals. The Seelie Court, representing the benevolent faeries, contrasts with the Unseelie Court, known for its darker and more malevolent inhabitants.
Mythical Creatures: Scotland is home to a myriad of mythical creatures, each with its own unique characteristics. The Loch Ness Monster, perhaps the most famous, is said to inhabit the deep waters of Loch Ness. Other creatures like kelpies, shape-shifting water spirits, and the fearsome wulver, a wolf-like creature with a human demeanor, add layers of complexity to the mythical bestiary of Scotland.
Witches and Warlocks: The witch trials of the 16th and 17th centuries left an indelible mark on Scottish folklore. Stories of witches and warlocks, casting spells and consorting with the devil, have permeated the cultural consciousness. The iconic character of Tam O'Shanter, immortalized in Robert Burns' poem, reflects the enduring fascination with supernatural forces.
Prominent Characters:
Braveheart and Outlaw Heroes: Scottish folklore is replete with tales of brave warriors and outlaw heroes who resist oppressive forces. Figures like William Wallace, the legendary leader of the Scottish Wars of Independence, and Rob Roy MacGregor, the renowned outlaw, have become larger-than-life symbols of resistance and freedom.
Tam Lin: The ballad of Tam Lin is a classic Scottish folk tale that weaves a tale of love, enchantment, and redemption. The story revolves around a mortal man, Tam Lin, ensnared by the Queen of the Faeries, and the courageous efforts of his lover to free him from the otherworldly grasp.
Scottish folklore continues to exert a profound influence on contemporary culture, literature, and the arts. The tales have inspired countless novels, poems, plays, and films, contributing to the enduring allure of Scotland's mythical past. The modern fascination with the supernatural, evident in popular culture phenomena like the Harry Potter series, draws on the deep well of Scottish folklore.
In conclusion, Scottish folklore stands as a testament to the resilience of oral traditions and the enduring power of myth. Its stories, passed down through generations, have shaped the cultural identity of Scotland, providing a lens through which to view the nation's history, values, and imagination. As we delve into the realms of faeries, mythical creatures, and heroic figures, we embark on a journey through the enchanted landscapes of Scotland's collective psyche, where the lines between reality and fantasy blur, and the magic of folklore continues to captivate hearts and minds.

A Hodepodge of Older Shows to Watch During the Strike
We support the writer’s strike here, and in a Culture of New, TV execs are going to use the “impact” to currently running shows in order to try to shift your support to them. But here in Tumblr we have revived century-old novels and put them firmly in the mainstream by having a Tumblr-wide bookclub, so I think we can do the same to older shows--not only to keep ourselves entertained, but to remind us all why writers are so important to begin with. Now that AI is coming dangerously close to replacing writers’ work (and is indeed one of the issues the writers are striking over), I think it’s important to remember that our favorite lines (one of mine is “Everything is confetti” from Haunting of Hill House) couldn’t have happened without a writer creating and then fighting for it. Writers deserve healthy workplaces, fair compensation, and recognition for their talent.
Disclaimers: 1. As with all shows, but especially older ones, there will be problematic content. 2. I will try to avoid obvious recs that still have an active fanbase like Star Trek or Buffy, but I don’t have my finger on the pulse of pop culture so maybe I rec something that’s still pretty popular and I don’t realize it. I’m also not necessarily going for “obscure” or “you’ve never heard of this,” but just shows people might have overlooked. Yes, I’m from the US (sorry!) and yes, I would love to hear from non-US people about the best shows from your country that I’m missing out on! Please feel free to reblog and add your favorites to this!   3. Maybe my taste doesn’t align with yours and you disagree. Maybe I missed something because I didn’t want this to be 500 pages long. That’s fine! Again, reblog with your own recs. The more, the better! 4. Genres are weird. I tried. 5. I chose not to add where you could find these series because it can vary country to country, but if all else fails, check your local library’s media collection! (And if that fails, you might sail the seas...) 6. Please be cool... please.
Comedies
Better Off Ted (2009, 2 seasons) A workplace comedy in an evil corporation. Perfect for fans of The Office or Arrested Development. Happy Endings (2011, 3 seasons) It’s like if Friends was just every so slightly more diverse. Takes place in Chicago, which is cool.
M*A*S*H (1972, 11 seasons) You’ve probably heard of this comedy/drama that stars cultural icon Alan Alda as a cynical army medic just trying to survive the Korean War, but have you watched it yet? You should.
NewsRadio (1995, 5 seasons) A workplace comedy in a news radio station starring Phil Hartman. A less cringy Office and a less sophisticated Frasier. Vicar of Dibley (1994, 3 series + specials) Dawn French plays the first-ever female vicar in a small English village. Watch out for an utterly amazing Spice Girls reference and Richard Armitage. Keeping Up Appearances (1990, 5 series) A British woman from a lower class family attempts to social climb to predictably hilarious results. Was apparently one of the Queen Mother’s favorite shows though I can’t for the life of me figure out what she got from it.
You’re the Worst (2014, 5 seasons) Just two really toxic people in a relationship trying to make it work. Definitely has dramatic undertones in addition to being pretty funny.
Side note: If you like comedy, get a subscription to Dropout TV. I’m not a shill. Nobody’s paying me to say this. I just really love it and they’re a great company to support.  Science Fiction/Supernatural
Babylon 5 (1994, 5 seasons) Was Deep Space Nine your favorite Star Trek series? Watch this. (Watch it even if it wasn’t.)
Sliders (1995, 5 seasons) An updated Quantum Leap. Jerry O’Connell and John Rhys-Davies star. A couple of scientists and their unfortunate friends are stuck sliding between alternate universes trying to find their way home.
Wynonna Earp (2016, 4 seasons) The great-great granddaughter of Wyatt Earp is tasked with sending reincarnated outlaws back to Hell. Often called the spiritual successor to Buffy, this is a real campy adventure in the Wild West and everything Supernatural wished it could be.
Lost Girl (2010, 5 seasons) This show is about a bisexual succubus named Bo. I don’t know what else you need to watch this.
Drama
The Darling Buds of May (1991, 3 series) The British Little House on the Prairie if Pa were a con man you like to root for. An early Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as the oldest daughter who kidnaps and marries a tax inspector in order to avoid paying taxes. Incredible. Icon.
Midsomer Murders (1997, 24+ series) Technically, this one is still going (and I’m sure everyone’s heard of it), but there’s so many back episodes to get through, I still feel okay recommending it because it’s great for binge-watching when you’re sick. You’ll never run out of episodes. Cozy murder mysteries that take place in England’s most deadly village. Joyce deserves better.
In the Heat of the Night (1988, 7 seasons + films) A crime procedural in the Deep South in the US, a big city Black detective is hired as the head detective in a small town in rural Mississippi. Progressive (for its time), this show dealt with racial issues, police corruption, poverty, and more.
Six Feet Under (2001, 5 seasons) Two brothers work together to run the family business, a funeral home, in the wake of their father’s death. The show’s finale is considered one of the greatest of all time, so you can go in having confidence in a satisfying conclusion.
Historical Fiction/Fantasy
Rome (2005, 2 seasons) A collaboration between HBO and BBC, one of the most expensive series of its time. Has so many incredible character actors. You will constantly be on your phone asking where you recognize That Guy from. Polly Walker was instrumental in my discovering my sexuality.
Xena: Warrior Princess (1995, 6 seasons) Okay, I know this is another popular one, but it also feels like a show people have heard of and never watched, so this is your reminder to do so. Brideshead Revisited (1981, 1 series) British schoolboys doing what schoolboys do best (falling in love with each other). Adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s novel by the same name. Galavant (2015, 2 seasons) Hilarious musical comedy about a downtrodden knight trying to rescue his girlfriend from King Richard, even though she is actually pretty happy being Queen. Catchiest theme ever. SUPPORT WRITERS.

ava and rachel....lord this is such a hard choice.
kill ava, i guess, just because on my first watch of the show i got bamboozled and thought she was living an outlaw queen storyline but she WASN'T and sometimes that still makes me sad even though i've grown to have a lot of respect for her actual storyline upon rewatches. also i'm sorry but i still hate her prison plotline.

I decided to recreate Evie, my Red Dead OC, in Cyberpunk 2077! I knew that I'll have to take some liberties with her looks, and after doing so, I took her personality and practically inverted it too! Instead of a quiet, vengeful outlaw living in the woods, she's a charismatic streetkid, striving to become the Queen of Night City. Her iconic auburn hair and green eyes (and most importantly, the lust for blood) had to remain the same, obviously!
It was so fun to pick clothing, and especially piercing and cyberware for her - the RDO Evie would never settle for such modifications.
I'm proud of how she turned out, so much so that I might actually make her my next Cyberpunk OC! wouldn't it be funny if her name was EV? you know, like Evie... b-but V... just kidding haha unless.... If that happens, she might get a proper backstory, ideally based on her RDO story. Maybe even become my canon V as I got too attached to Crystal. She's not even a V canonically and CP77 endings with her became too devastating for me to play them.
And I don't want to complain about RDO character creator, as it's quite powerful if you take time with it, but I found it much easier to control any changes with the CP77 one. I was having the time of my life creating her.
Very cool pics under the cut! I'm starting to fall in love with her tbh.

Emmylou Harris - Songs & albums that are in my soul
So for her birthday, since I don’t focus on her solo career as much as it deserves on my blog, I wanted to make a list of my favorite Emmylou albums and share my personal “best of” playlist made for the occasion. I think her talent in creating a cohesive record with its own unique vision as (mostly) an interpreter of songs is severely underrated, but she’s consistently proven to be an album artist first and foremost and all of these are the perfect showcase of that. Do yourself a favor and go check them out now!
5) Roses in the Snow (1980)
Tumblr media
Going Bluegrass, baby. This album might have my favorite backstory. Story goes that, despite her quick rise to fame as a country star, some critics had bashed her for not being “traditionally country” enough (ikr, what a surprise), so she just made this spectacular bluegrass infused record which was also a smash hit. If this isn’t iconic behaviour, I don’t know what is.
4) Blue Kentucky Girl (1979)
Tumblr media
This was a bit more of a slow burner for whatever reason, but I have grown to love pretty much everything about it and every single track. Perhaps her warmest and prettiest sounding record, without ever going over into cheesy territory. Nothing but tasteful, exquisitely arranged and performed good ol’country music with the usual array of special guests to die for.
3) Pieces of the Sky (1975)
Tumblr media
Emmylou once said that learning that Gram had died was “like falling off a mountain” and the only thing she could think of was making a country album almost in his memory. She ended up making two in 1975, but the first one was truly unforgettable. True to her promise, it’s hard not to hear the silent presence all over Pieces of the Sky. He’s the canyon on fire in Boulder to Birmingham, he’s “the one who made a queen of a simple country girl” in Queen of the Silver Dollar. He’s in the duets they once had or the songs he played her (Sleepless Nights, Bottle Let Me Down, Coat of Many Colors). And just like that, a star was born and Gram Parsons’ spirit lived on.
2) Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town (1978)
Tumblr media
I love everything about this album. Starting from the cover and title, courtesy of Susanna Clark. It opens with the double punch of Easy From Now On/Two More Bottles of Win which alone would be enough to make it a favorite of mine, but then it goes on and every track just keeps hitting it out of the park. Perfectly balancing more mellow and upbeat songs, her voice glides through each one now with the confidence and control of someone who’s entirely tuned in with their own instrument and at the very peak of their power.
1) Luxury Liner (1977)
Tumblr media
Now I have talked about this album time and time again so it’s no secret what I think about it, but I will never get tired of hyping it up. It’s the one that truly catapulted her career into stardom. It’s the moment she completely came into her own and made it very clear to everybody, starting with herself, who she really was. It’s country and it’s rocking. It’s underground music gone mainstream without losing any of its authenticity. It’s outlaw country gone Nashville. It’s playing by her own rules and staying true to what she learned and where she came from. It’s one of the greatest country albums of all time, if you ask me.

Situations where the camera would rather film than assist 🎬
Preparations are underway..
As we can see, this photo is all about the filming location, although it also gives you a specific location within Doune Castle. Jeremy Irvine's photo is very good because it is supposed to be the location of the Great Hall in the Castle (turned Castle Leoch) which also suggests it is used as 'table reading'.
A table read is one of the most important steps in the production process for any TV series. It offers an opportunity for the cast, crew, and other members of the creative team to gather together to hear the script read aloud. In the case of episodic television, these table reads usually occur towards the end of pre-production, before filming.

Photo Outlander Season 1 set
Built-in the 13th century, the castle is known for its striking 100-foot-high gatehouse and one of the best-preserved great halls in the country. Its battlements afford stunning views of the River Teith and Ben Lomond. Doune Castle, suffered much damage in the Wars of Independence. It was later rebuilt in its current form in the 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, who is nicknamed the 'uncrowned King of Scotland'. The son of King Robert Il of Scots, and Regent of Scotland until his death.
It has a long and colourful history. Mary Queen of Scots stayed there on several occasions, and Bonnie Prince Charlie used it as a garrison during the Jacobite Rebellion. It fell into disuse after the Jacobites were defeated and by the beginning of the 19th century, was in ruins.
Doune Castle near Stirling was used as Castle Leoch's seat of Clan Mackenzie in Season One of Outlander. It is also Winterfell in Game of Thrones, and featured in Outlaw King and Mary Queen of Scots and and the 1975 comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Photo Outlander Season 1 set
From Jeremy's photo it seems that to recreate the new look of BOMB from the 18th century, the set presented looks familiar. It's possible could be working on sets already created by Jon Gary Steele, former production designer on Outlander season 1.
He built a lot of 18th-century interiors retrofitted in Doune Castle, originally built in 1390, which served as the fictional Castle Leoch in Outlander series. Because it’s a historic Scottish landmark, there were/are prohibitions on what they could/can do there. Doune Castle, is one of Scotland’s most iconic heritage attractions.

Photo Outlander Season 1 set
In season 1 of Outlander, Castle Leoch was made very utilitarian. Many people lived there, either inside the premises or right outside it, in shacks and huts. If you watch the video below, BOMB continues along this line. The laird's part of the castle will be very comfortable, but for everyone else, it will make it like it really would have been, not too comfortable.
Tumblr media
Doune Castle: It is built with exquisite curved wooden beams that give it a touch of elegance and architectural beauty. Raw materials are used in the series in a process that guarantees the integrity of the original structure. The curved laminated wood beams were made in season 1 of Outlander and adorn the Great Hall and continue in BOMB.
Combining craftsmanship and technique, aiming to shed light behind on the remarkable original structural element. In this case, what is missing from the photo is to show how they did it.
Tumblr media
The Great Hall. The castle is known for having one of the best-preserved great halls in the country.

The Price May Be Right - Number 20
Welcome to “The Price May Be Right!” I’m counting down My Top 31 Favorite Vincent Price Performances & Appearances! The countdown will cover movies, TV productions, and many more forms of media. Today we move into the Top 20 for this countdown! The time has come to focus on my choice for Number 20: Egghead, from the 60s Batman Series.
Tumblr media
In recent years, the 1960s Batman TV Series – starring Adam West & Burt Ward as the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder – has been making a bit of a comeback. This pleases me, because I’ve always loved the series, but for many years, the show was treated in a very backhanded and dismissive manner: people believed it ruined the world of comics, since for a long time it was blamed for the perception of comics as silly kid’s stuff and campy nonsense. Ironically, with so many comics and their adaptations nowadays growing darker and more “edgy” as time has gone on, especially on DC’s side of the market, this has led to a resurgence of popularity with the goofiness of the Silly Sixties. The 60s Batman show featured many great villains from the comics, all portrayed excellently for the time (and sometimes for ALL time) by fine actors of the period. However, it also had its fair share of original villains made just for the series itself. Most of these characters – such as Shame, the Minstrel, and Zelda the Great – never really caught on or went anywhere. A few of these original villains, however, were pretty popular, and often proved to be antagonists just as effective as such famous rogues as the Joker or the Penguin. One of the most well-known of these original villains was Vincent Price’s memorable mastermind, Egghead. His true name unknown (which was the case for most of the villains in the show, to be fair), Egghead was a supervillain who claimed to be the second smartest man in the world. His intelligence was attributed to his unusually oversized and incredibly bald cranium, which was the cause of his alias. Garbed in a dapper cream-and-gold suit, he was one of the slickest sleazebags the Dynamic Duo ever faced. Egghead lived up to his name well: not only was Price’s dialogue littered with egg puns in just about every line, but the character apparently ate nothing but eggs and bacon, and used a variety of explosive gadgets hidden inside of eggshells. From tear gas grenades to pressure-based bombs, his egg-scruciating weapons were no yolk! Of course, he’d always be caught at the end of each story, proving that the life of an outlaw was not all it was cracked up to be. …I am SO sorry, I won’t make any more egg puns, I swear. XD Anywho…Vincent always claimed that playing Egghead was one of the most fun jobs he had, and the character remains iconic, as well as one of Price’s most lauded performances. My only issue with Egghead is that, as the show went on, it felt like the character went through a sort of de-evolution: in his first two-parter appearance, Egghead basically worked alone, barring the usual band of hired mooks and his personal biographer, Miss Bacon. However, later appearances teamed him up with another original villain – Olga, Queen of the Cossacks – and it often felt like the two stepped on each other’s toes. In some episodes, Olga seemed like little more than an overblown moll; in other episodes, it seemed like Egghead had gone from being a crafty crook in his own right to just becoming a bumbling stooge for the Queen of the Cossacks. Still, the character was fun no matter how smart he actually seemed. Fun fact: not so long before his sad departure, Adam West visited my hometown for our local ComicCon. I sadly did not get the opportunity to meet him, but a friend of mine did, and agreed to ask a question for me. They asked Adam West what it was like working with Vincent Price. West apparently answered: “Well, it was exactly what you would imagine it would be like, working with a man who loved his wine, loved his art, and loved his work. In that order.” How I wish I could have heard those golden words firsthand. Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 19!
