I have a few head cannons for these two that I wanna throw out there; Writing these two for like 10 years has made me realized that no matter what situation they are in (if writing in character) they are the idealistic couple. Sure, they argue and fumble the bag sometimes, but their dynamic is FIERCE. You cannot tell me that his most trusted friend, partner, and balanced scale IS NOT IDEAL? These are my head cannons that I base my stories on while writing them in character (which took a long time to do honestly, writing in character with characters who are not fully developed is hard as fuck. But you take whatever crumbs you get.)

Plus, I would’ve changed a bunch of things in this anime but that’s besides the point

1. Neji started liking Tenten prior to the second round fights of the chunnin exams. It started as admiring her skills, but grew to an emotional level as time went on. He asked her specifically to train with him because he felt that she was able to keep up and offer him a challenge in a realm he was not skilled in; weapon handling and evasion. This is going off of the fact that in one of the video games, Tenten had beat both Neji and Lee in evasion training, which in my mind, means that Neji saw Tenten for her skills and held her in very high regard even if she got clapped by Temari (which he didn’t fault her for! It was a bad match up). While they trained, Tenten would push conversation with him to the point where they started talking about their personal lives and led to Tenten finding out about the curse mark, his father, and his blind spot. Tenten had shared her deep insecurities about never being able to match up to them, or to be good enough to be like Lady Tsunade (especially after she fumbled the medical ninja training). To that, Neji ensured her that she was a great match up to himself and Lee; which is why he asked her to help train him in the first place. Since then, Neji has made it his priority to ensure that Tenten did not fall into a deep depression and would always praise her with the “you are good enough as you are.” He would shower her with subtle affection by buying her sweets when she was in a bad mood and spending some of his days off with her. In fact, it wasn’t until Gai-sensei had pointed out that Neji was attached to her, and was doting on her to make sure she kept a smile on her face. Neji would roll his eyes (as most 13-14 whatever’s they were) but kept at it well into their late teens.

2. Tenten is oblivious as fuck to Neji’s affection. I used this a lot in my Sleepless Nights fic, and sprinkled it in for some oneshots as well as hinted at it in Frequency. Tenten is an over thinker and can get inside her own head very easily. She thinks Neji is just being a good friend; arguably, she considers him a best friend since they are with each other all the time. She’s been so focused on her work that she never even considered the possibility that Neji liked her in anything past a friend. To be fair, Neji doesn’t seem like the type to make it obvious when he likes someone. And we’re about to get into that…

3. Neji is awkward as hell when it comes to anything emotion related but his love languages are Acts of Service and Gift Giving. Neji is alright with quality time, but he is a protector before anything else. I see Neji more as a ��how can I help?” Or “Let me know if you need me.” He probably also gets snapped at by Tenten when he instinctively helps her and does things for her without asking if she needs help. She very much “I can do it myself” type of girl. Like I said before, he dotes on Tenten by buying her sweets and things she likes, I wouldn’t be surprised if he followed her around different weapons shops while they were on missions and helping her add to her enormous weapons collection. We also saw the acts of service come out of him when he shadowed Hinata (which was really sweet honestly. It showed his softer side and he maybe felt a bit guilty for treating her like garbage after his father died and was trying to make it up to her).

4. Tenten started realizing her feelings when they retook the chunnin exams. C’mon we all saw the look on home girl’s face when Fuu grabbed Neji’s hand and asked him to be her friend. It screamed LET GO OF MY MAN. Tenten hasn’t seen or experienced Neji interacting with other girls besides herself and Hinata (excluding Sakura and Ino who they were all friends with, but only interacted with on occasion). She didn’t like the idea of Neji getting attention from other girls.

5. Both are the jealous type. I know, I didn’t think Neji would be either, but it makes sense to me; Why would she be with anyone else other than him? Was he not her best friend? Who they shared all their deep dark feelings and secrets with? How dare someone else look at her partner in such a way? How dare they talk to her like that in front of him! For Tenten I don’t see it running extremely deep, but maybe a touch of it like stated above.

6. Lee was in on it. He absolutely knew. There’s no way Lee is so oblivious to his rival’s feelings. Especially since Gai has VERY loose lips. I wouldn’t be surprised it Lee was there when Gai had pointed out Neji’s affections for Tenten when they were gennin. Lee wanted them to be together and wanted to see them happy; Neji found comfort in knowing Tenten was alright. Tenten found comfort in Neji by trusting him with her feelings and not being harshly judged for it. I can see Lee purposefully hanging back and watching the two of them spar.

7. Neji only genuinely smiles around Tenten. Sure, he would offer a small smile of a smirk most of the time. But, around her he can actually pull his guard down and feel happy. He does offer small smiles and half smiles around Hinata and Naruto, however those big cheesing moments are usually kept in the presence of his bunheadded teammate.

8. Neji struggles to keep his feelings towards Tenten in check. He feels as though he doesn’t want to ruin their deeply rooted friendship and tends to keep a straight face when they are with a group. Tenten-again being oblivious- thinks he is just being an egotistical jerk around everyone when he’s not really like that when they are alone. He keeps some physical distance towards her as well unless they are fighting together, to prevent any mistakes and obvious signs of his affections. Perhaps he’s not into PDA either.

9. They argue. A lot. But it never ends in them feeling unheard or disrespected; these two have strong personalities and are very opinionated anyway.

10. Neji confided in Hinata about his feelings on Tenten, and Hinata promised to keep it a secret. (more on that in part 2 of my headcannons)

11. Neji tries to encourage Tenten to use her Taijutsu skills for close combat more. There’s a post circulating right now about how Tenten’s close combat abilities surpassed everyone but her team’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tenten felt discouraged by the fact that both boys on her team were already close range fighters and struggled with her gifts of long range fighting; she overthinks and puts herself into a box. Neji probably has attempted to strictly train with her (think Shippuuden…17-18 years old?) on her taijustu so she could gain some confidence. In fact, he has brought up to her that she would have beat Temari years ago if she would’ve show cases her taijustu abilities.

12. Their fighting style is more like a dance in flow. Tenten is very flexible and since her and Neji have been training since they were gennin, it would only make sense that they are so insynch with each other it almost look graceful.

I have more but imma stop there lol. I have ideas on how they first kissed, slept with each other all that stuff; how he would’ve proposed; It’ll be a very long post especially if I get into the whole “if Neji survived the war” which I do have a fanfiction on right now 👀 look at my pinned post for the link.

Notes :

This is slightly weird because Clark writes BatBru fics for most of it. It is pretty funny overall because Bruce becomes a stalker with a crush. There is some angst because as Bruce was never taught stalking people is bad. There is a happy ending tho so no worry. I could write pages and pages but reading it for yourself would be better, trust me :)

How did Ramona become your favorite ship and how did you become a hardcore Ramona shipper?

I guess it was just instinct. I knew I found something special when I came across RaMona and my love for it just grew as the years went on.

It all started when I was watching one of Black Nerd Comedy’s TMNT videos on YouTube. He was doing a ninja turtles Q&A and someone asked him if he would ever like to see Mona Lisa in the 2012 series. He agreed that Mona should return and called her “Raphael’s lady”.

Note: This was in March 2014, over a year before Mona Lisa was introduced in the 2012 show in November 2015

I was very new to TMNT at this time, with the 2012 series being my introduction, so I had very little knowledge of the franchise and other versions, but I was a sucker for romance side plots and my curiosity was peaked. So I did some digging on YouTube and found the 1987 episode “Raphael Meets His Match” and I watched it. This was my very first episode I ever watched of the 87 series and I fell in love with Mona Lisa and especially her relationship with Raph. I loved how well her personality clashed with Raph, snarky stubborn sass with even more snarky stubborn sass. I squealed when she called him a doll and kissed his cheek. Him assuring her that he thinks she’s beautiful warmed my heart and them reuniting by the end of the episode was so sweet. You can image my disappointment when I learned that was her ONLY episode and she never came back. So I relied on fanart and fan comics of her, hopefully waiting for the return of this ship.

For those who don’t know, back when the 2012 series was running there were A LOT of fans who would constantly email/DM the producers and writers of the show on social media, asking them to bring Mona Lisa into the 2012 series. I will admit I was one of those fans 😅 I never harassed them like other fans did, but I do remember commenting on their instagram post regarding the topic once or twice.

Also funny fact, apparently Sean Astin (2012 Raph’s voice actor) was also one of those people. He constantly kept on asking Branden and Ciro (the producers) when Raph was going to get a love interest, cause he saw every other turtle get a GF except Raph. Angry turtles need love too! XD

Fast forward to August 2015, San Diego Comic Con, at a TMNT 2012 panel, they announce that Mona Lisa will be coming to the series in the upcoming season 4 as a warrior from an alien planet. I fangirled so hard that night when I watched the panel on YouTube! I was squealing so loud and dancing around my bedroom! I was so happy I started to cry! My OTP was finally returning!

It was 2012 RaMona that sealed the deal for me. After watching their first episode “The Moons of Thalos 3”, I fell in love with them. Raph falling for her because she punched him in the face is both hilarious and adorable, and also (strangely) very in character for him. His “what a woman” line made me squeal in excitement. Their first kiss, I couldn’t help but cheer. I didn’t care about any other ship except for them. To actually see a happy healthy couple with little to no problems in this series was a breath of fresh air. I never cared for Apritello, Leor*i I was questioning (that’s a whole different can of worms I’m not getting into now), I didn’t care for Capril, and though I liked Renetangelo I wasn’t crazy for them. The more Mona appeared in the show the more my love for the ship grew. Them constantly flirting or making out in the middle of battle, how trusting they are of each other, how supportive they are of each other in combat, and even their biggest road bump with Lord Dregg they were able to over come, with the cherry of that episode being Mona confessing her love to Raph. Even when back on Earth, Raph still thinks about her, loves her and stays loyal to her. In truth, Mona made Raph a better man. Them reuniting in season 5 kinda leaves us with an open book because now we get to decide what happens with them now that they are on Earth together. I just know from the look they gave each other at the end of the episode as they held each other in their arms that they will be living happily ever after 🥰

We only ever see this ship in a hand full of episodes in the 2012 series, but it was enough to show me and the audience how happy and healthy this couple is compare to the other ships. I love them. I adore them. I want a relationship like theirs one day. I wanna find my Raph to my Mona. I want to continue to see this ship in other versions of TMNT in the future!

I will stand proud and say that I am the captain of the Raph x Mona Lisa ship! 🫡💞

Finished Once Upon a Broken Heart! So about Part III: Chaos…

-deeeep breath. First things first, gonna get this out of the way. My opinion on OTPs is this: it’s silly to expect anyone to have one OTP ever, it’s like only picking one type of flower to ever smell. I think of it more as “what is the pairing that speaks to you the most in this specific work”. One OTP per fandom if you will. That being said, I liked Scarlett/Julian…I liked Tella/Legend…I liked Tella/Jacks in the unrequited kinda way. But Evangeline/Jacks is officially my OTP for this fandom. The mausoleum scene sealed it for me. Them just talking to each other about Tella and Luc, Evangeline knowing Jacks well enough to KNOW that he is leaving some disreputable details out, but making sure he doesn’t turn into a vampire cause he had said how much he would hate being one, Jacks getting between her and Luc and fighting not to drink her blood and holding himself back….there was tension and emotional connection and I am all here for it. They may not be in love yet but I am going to enjoy this. I want them to become a bit feral for each other, not gonna lie. Cause at the end of the day, you know what they both want? To love someone and be wanted by them in return, and both have (and probably still will) take it to extremes. And yes, Jacks has been manipulating Evangeline. Evangeline is 100% correct to not trust Jacks. It’s a great enemies to lovers set up.

-is there a collective name to refer to this Caraval/Once Upon a Broken Heart universe?

-I did not expect vampires to show up in this series, but it worked better than I would have expected. Again, I feel like the author just wanted to throw Jacks in different genres and AUs. But this universe runs on vibes and aesthetics, and I’m enjoying it, so not gonna nitpick world building or cohesion.

-LaLa being a Fate was a surprise! I remember the Unwed Bride being mentioned before, but never would have connected it to LaLa. It was nice to see a pleasant Fate working around her compulsions (by designing wedding dresses!). And it brought up the very important point of magic things or people being compelled to do what they are made to do.

-I feel like there is a lot to unpack from Jacks’s study that could be caught on a re-read. An encyclopedia on “E” (Evangeline?), a study about the color blue (he dyed his hair blue), the time travel books (reason for the Valory Arch?), and the fairytale of the Archer and the Fox. That story and its lack of ending is obviously gonna be real important later.

-I hate Marisol. So. Freaking. Much. As soon as she called for the guards to arrest Evangeline….gahhh that girl needs to fall off a cliff. But feeling vindicated on Evangeline’s behalf cause SHE WAS RIGHT LUC WAS CURSED. Trust your instincts Evangeline…sometimes (like maybe not telling Marisol the truth right then and there). Evangeline’s empathy is one of the things I love best about this character, even as it sometimes leads her to make foolish decisions (but honestly, rarely too stupid ones, there’s usually logic or emotional reasons behind most of her choices which I appreciate).

-oh yeah, we finally saw Luc. Liked him about as well as I thought I would, which is not. But he’s a full vampire now, so bound to show up again.

-why can Jacks and Evangeline communicate telepathically? Is it a connection due to their deal? I don’t remember Jacks talking to Tella like this.

-Apollo is only mostly dead! Nice. So Evangeline is still technically married which adds another layer to things.

-I like the callback to the prologue with the bell ringing to help Evangeline find a place to hide

Random headcanon: If he had never reunited with Jane, I don't think he would have spent the rest of his life pining for her; neither would Jane for him, even though Elizabeth fears otherwise. They would both have eventually moved on and found others. But this doesn't make their love for each other any less deep or less true. Nor – despite what some fans speculate – does the fact that he had other infatuations before Jane imply that his love for her won't last. Theirs is a good, tender, ordinary love that will lead to a happy marriage, and the fact that it isn't some larger-than-life, once-in-a-lifetime passion doesn't diminish it in the least.

Unpopular opinion: He's not an idiot. Even though his intellect doesn't match Darcy's and he relies too much on other people's judgments, that doesn't make him a himbo. He's a person of perfectly average intelligence. He's not inherently boring either. I'd like to see a retelling of the story written from his point of view for a change, or at least from Jane's point of view that puts their romance front and center, because I think they both have potential depth to explore.

Song I associate with them: None in particular.

"Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön" from The Magic Flute might remind me of him, though. Like Bingley, Tamino falls in love quickly, tenderly, and wholeheartedly, and like Bingley, he tends to be too easily swayed by what other people tell him, which nearly costs him his future happiness.

how I feel about this character: I adore her! and also grieve for her. she had so much taken from her, and she is stripped of so much agency throughout the books, and all she experiences is tragedy after tragedy and the endless shaming from her peers as well as the narrative for a part of herself she should be growing to learn and love. I grieve the potential arc for her that was lost, and I think often of the tragedy in her character. I find her humor fun, and her full personality engaging and interesting. I like that she's so flawed and I like that she's so selfish and vindictive, in the same way that I like how loving and protective she can be, and how strong she is inside. my favorite part about her character is how conflicted she is about everything. the ways she struggles with knowing herself, and struggles with the leftover emotions from her time at the little palace and other traumas. she deserves the world.

all the people I ship romantically with this character: everyone! genya, mal, aleksander, zoya. even nikolai. I even like the crossover ships for her with the crows, although I'm not as fond of them. plus of course any poly combination of any of these.

my non-romantic OTP for this character: alina & genya is the ultimate brotp. I mean I ship them but their friendship is so good. I love it.

my unpopular opinion about this character: I have as many unpopular opinions about her as I do any other character for sab lol. I think that she's not some stalwart moral paladin and I don't get why people say she is. people also make her out to be more helpless or more vulnerable than she is, not to mention that they often mischaracterize her relationship with survival, trauma, and privilege. her ending was also tragic, and her arc was regressive, and imo fandom likes to use her to hate the characters around her more than they actually like or understand her as a character.

one thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: that she got the ending she deserved in the books - that the loss of her powers was either given a better narrative message, or that she didn't lose her powers at all. that she actually got to have any depth at all in the show, instead of all of her complexity and conflict and "bad" traits getting sanded down into nothing but performative bullshit.

a headcanon fact: alina is always burning hot to the touch. she knows the time of day based on the light around her. she can sustain small balls of light for long periods of time while not being around them. she's nonbinary with she/they pronouns and she's extremely bisexual. that she spends her time with mal after the books recovering from what should be acknowledged as a sudden and painful disability. that she sees the ghost of the darkling even after he's dead. that she's schizophrenic and has chronic fatigue. that she operates at some level on inhuman instincts tied to the nature of light & shadow. that she's not very good with kids because she struggles to convey empathy, but her protective instincts make her the safest person they trust to go to whenever they're afraid.

My OTP after I got over shipping NaruHina.

The first stories I wrote for Naruto were about these two. I always thought their dynamic was very cute, from teammates to friends to lovers. I genuinely just love writing Team 8 in general, Shino's been my pfp on Ao3 and FFN since I started writing again. They seemed like the team with the strongest overall bond. Outside of that, Kiba seemed to be there for Hinata plenty.

When she was kidnapped and Neji was sent after her, he demanded he go instead because he didn't trust Neji after he beat the shit out of her. He compromised by joining him of course, but the sentiment remains the same. He's protective of her. There's tons more I could point out, but I'd like to end by saying, as said in my bio, I am not anti-anything. I am not anti-NaruHina and totally respect the ship. I just like KibaHina! <3

How I feel about this character:

Best girl, one of my favorites out of the bracelet girls! I just adore everything about Yuzu, her character is amazing and shes adorable and I really love her deck. She has a strong and caring personality, she's determined and works hard which is shown when she wanted to learn fusion to get stronger after her duel with Masumi! Yuzu is just an all around great character, I just like that shes a cute girl with a temper, shes strong enough to break the duel machine or push Yugo away how ever many feet. She is amazing and strong emotionally and physically.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

Yuya!! Jealous Yuzu is so cute, she adores Yuya so very much, that is her stupid idiot and no one elses. No matter how far apart Yuzu was from Yuya, she trusted and believed in him to stay strong so they could reunite. Those two have a very sweet bond, which is shown during the tournament, their feelings came across for eachother very strongly. And its very cute when Yuzu would just smack/push Yuya when shes flustered, like when they hugged and Masumi teased them! They are just the most wholesome pair out of the yu's and bracelet girls.

Yugo! Their bond was super sweet, they grew to care about eachother in such a short time. its funny when Yuzu would just smack Yugo for his behavior, he kind of needs it sometimes. Yugo was very worried for Yuzu after her duel with Sergey, it was sad to see him actually hurt/crying when he thought she was dead. And when Yugo ran to Yuzu happily when they got to the fusion dimension was very sweet. Yuzu and Yugo have a very good bond as friends!

my unpopular opinion about this character:

I think very positively of Yuzu and everything that happened, if there is one think to nitpick and share an opinion of; its the duel with sergey. That was just very upsetting and seeing her get thrown into a building was just kind of dumb. Thats a duel she deserved to win, yknow how Yugioh comes when it comes to the girls dueling and winning in key moments like that when they deserve development.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:

I wanted Yuzu to smack Roget very hard in the face, I don't have any opinions aside from that. That dude deserved a beat down. If Yuzu had her hands free or had her fan, she could've given that creep a good smackdown herself.

Also wanted arc-v to end with Yuzu giving Yuya a HUGE hug in front of an audience by sheer instinct, completely forgetting people are watching. Yuya needed a hug and kiss on the cheek, he'd be very flustered and Yuzu would cutely hide her face in embarrassment.

Also (and this is so dumb that you don't even have to reply!) I LOVED your Peyton/Lucas analysis and wanted to add a couple more differences between them since their similarities are so clear. (One reason Leyton is my OTP - Lucas and Peyton get each other on such a deep level because of their 'yes, me too, I thought I was alone!' commonalities!) Anyway, for me the key difference between them is that Lucas is a little more cerebral---Peyton is obviously very bright, but she leads more with her heart than her head and makes decisions based more on how she feels that what she objectively THINKS, especially once she lets down the walls she had up in s1. So one difference stemming from that is that Lucas is more objective/rational/alert when it comes to understanding others ---e.g. seeing that Derek was a dangerous fraud while Peyton refused to believe it because her heart to like and trust her half-brother. The irony, of course, is that Lucas is clueless when it comes to understanding certain aspects of himself, but he's very alert and perceptive when it comes to what makes OTHER people tick (it's the writer in him!) and is more apt to objectively analyze while Peyton follows her instincts. It's also, though, why Peyton is usually more forgiving than Lucas---yes, objectively someone did something bad, but Peyton cares about them so wants them back in her life, while Lucas is more "that person is objectively wrong and I can't pretend otherwise." And we this difference manifest when Peyton learns she has such a high-risk pregnancy---Lucas calculates the risk and wants Peyton to rationally put her safety and health first while Peyton decides based on her instincts, emotions and hopes that she'll carry the pregnancy to term no matter what because she so deeply wants this and believes their baby will be fine.

i dont know that id say peyton is more forgiving... they both can hold a grudge. peyton not wanting to forgive haley after she came back from tour, peyton being unwilling to speak to ellie at first, and i think had it not been for the psycho derek prom attack it wouldve taken a LOT longer for her to get over the brooke and nathan sex tape

idk i see lucas and peyton on equal footing when it comes to forgiveness like they need to be mean and petty about it first and then theyll come around lol

still feeling the effects of the coffee i drank this morning so i am 🖕😜🖕 posting for my future self to be embarrassed about and deal with.

idk if it was intentional or what but note how this szn, steve implicitly trusts and respects nancy’s instincts in several instances instead of shutting them down, and only ever argued about task delegation but still stands down once approached with reason. 

like when nancy wanted to go the library, his response wasn’t “no way. we need to stick together” (which would’ve been well-intentioned and understandable) but “yeah, ok you need someone.” or how he completely supported her idea of posing as academic scholars despite having doubts about the creel lead. 

i have more slightly tangential brainrot to say under the cut.

the scene where the scooby gang had a conversation was particularly interesting to me. the dynamics were like: eddie=skeptic, robin=throwing wild idea, nancy/steve=facts, grounding the idea. idk this seems significant to me cuz steve is often the skeptic/straight man in grp dynamics. 

this dynamic even extends to the framing of the scene: robin and eddie had their own individual frames, but steve and nancy were sharing not one but two frames (just on that convo alone, cuz they had several others post-DIVE) that just racks focus depending on who’s talking in the shot.

there’s no way a big-budget tv show just decided to skimp on these frames lmfao so they are definitely intentional lol!!! to me, it’s like an indication that they are finally on the same page (or frame, heh). (edit: forgot to mention, the shot above^ ended with steve moving forward so they’re in equal footing and then they flirted about how she almost killed him that one time, you know, as great OTPs do. so not only are they on the same page in their method of dealing with things, they have also become comfortable flirting with each other, as a treat!) and the ending of this scene where nancy suggests going to her house for guns? steve saying, “so what are we waiting for?” !!!! 

it’s just truly a far cry from their s2 dynamic where steve tries to talk nancy out of investigating about barb’s death (albeit well-intentioned). their present selves’ ways of dealing with issues have aligned!!! and they’re clearly still very attracted to each other. so arguments about them not being well-matched just don’t hold water lolll!! 

(on the other hand, go back to s3 and see how jonathan shut down nancy’s ideas and instincts because he was concerned about self-preservation, which is not even necessarily invalid cuz his poverty has made him function in survival mode all his life and that’s understandable. but this just proves that their differences as people, let alone as a couple, are more fundamental than anything. sidebar: jonathan’s apology when nancy was proven right was like, “i was wrong. don’t let that go to your head.” and i’m supposed to root for them??? when steve apologized twice, one of which could pass as a famous romantic Grovel and that’s all pre-””character development” s1 steve??? hell naw!!!!!)

Ty Lee for the character ask thing in your recent post

thanks for the ask anon! ty lee is getting a lot of love in my inbox these days and i'm here for it <3

favorite thing about them: i love ty lee's loyalty to her friends. the way she turned on azula, the girl she'd feared almost all her life, to protect mai so instinctively that even she was shocked...ugh, we love to see it.

least favorite thing about them: this isn't about ty lee per se, but i really wasn't a fan of how she ended up joining the kyoshi warriors. it's kind of puzzling to me that a girl who valued her individuality so deeply would join a militaristic team where everyone painted their faces and dressed alike. ty lee also always struck me as more of a lone wolf, the type to drift from place to place depending on her mood or what she wants, so i don't see how she would enjoy the regimented routine of the kyoshi warriors.

favorite line: "circus freak is a compliment!" i think it just says so much about who ty lee is, and how much she values being her own person, even if it means being insulted.

brOTP: i think ty lee and aang would get along really well. especially when she finds out she's a secret airbender

OTP: mailee, hands down. ty lee literally betraying azula for mai?? mai always softening around ty lee, indulging in her hugs, defending her to zuko?? also they're literally the grumpy one sunshine trope and i'm a huge sucker for that.

nOTP: tyzula. i definitely get where this ship comes from, and the beach episode did have some great moments between them, but personally i think their dynamic has been built on too much manipulation, abuse and fear for them to ever have a romantic relationship. and i don't think azula could, or would, ever trust ty lee again after boiling rock, even if she redeemed herself. i do enjoy the ship content though, and as a purely fanon ship, it works.

random headcanon: i've said it before but i headcanon ty lee as a beautiful dancer.

unpopular opinion: i don't think i have any! i agree with most popular opinions on ty lee, apart from her joining the kyoshi warriors (but i don't think that's very popular anyway)

mason stood in front of the wrought-iron gates of the wayhaven cemetery, his thick boot-clad feet sinking in the mud as the remains of the summer storm danced on his freckled skin.

it wasn’t supposed to end this way.

she was supposed to be here, by his side.

not buried six feet below a mound of dirt.

she promised to come back to him.

3 weeks earlier

ria reached for mason’s hand as she sat on a gurney in the small, sterile room with nothing but white walls and a small, beeping monitor on a side table.

“you nervous?” he asked, holding her hand tightly in his.

his grey eyes softened as he studied her, trying to memorize the exact blue of her eyes and the way her pale skin radiated warmth that seeped through his clothes.

the corner of her eyes seemed to lift in an attempt to put him at ease. she should be terrified, but for some reason, she was trying to reassure him. the thought made him frown.

“hey, i need you to promise me something,” she said quietly, wrapping her other hand around their intertwined ones.

“anything,” he murmured, leaning in to give her a soft kiss on the forehead.

“if something were to go wrong—”

“it won’t.”

he needed her to focus all her energy on surviving.

she tugged his hand toward her. “i know the risks and there is a chance. if something does go wrong and i am no longer in control of myself…if i go feral, i need to know that you’ll handle it.”

he just stared at her in disbelief. “that won’t happen.”

“mason. if i am not myself and am capable of hurting people, i need you to make the call, you understand? for the good of everyone. i wouldn’t trust anyone else to do it.”

the pale blue of her eyes reminded him of the way seeing a sliver of blue on an overcast winter sky sometimes made the cold feel worse. the way the light reflected in them, waking his senses softly most mornings, now pierced his vision until the image of her blurred.

the frown on his face deepened and he pulled his hand away, tucking it into his pocket and reaching for a cigarette. “don’t put me in this position.”

“mason, i’m so sorry,” she said quietly, putting a palm to his cheek and turning his head toward her. “i hope you know how much i love you.”

he put the cigarette in his mouth and bit down hard, crushing the paper between his teeth until it disintegrated. the broken remains fell to the floor, the dark brown filling contrasting with the white tiled floor. the entire room was blinding and blurring.

“ria, i—”

a knock on the door, followed by agent chana peeking out from adam’s large stature drew their attention away from each other.

“ready? the agent who will perform the turning will be here shortly. you all can wait outside,” chana said sharply.

ria met adam’s piercing gaze, holding it for a full two seconds before he gave her a small nod. mason glanced back and forth between the two before adam left the room, the frown on his face deepening.

she slowly intertwined her fingers with his again and kissed the back of his hand.

“i won’t hurt you,” he said quickly, tightening his grip on her hand.

“i need you to keep me from hurting the ones i love. and i am sorry that by doing this, i am hurting you.”

he paused and looked at her for what would be the last time while she was human. how could she ever understand how losing her might destroy him?

his strength, stamina, and keen senses were of no use to him now. none of it would help keep her with him.

“come back to me. that’s an order,” he murmured, capturing her lips with his.

he focused on the feel of her lips, the taste of her contented sighs, and the warmth spreading throughout his body, memorizing every fiber that she seemed to touch before pulling back. he watched as the color of her eyes seemed to tremble before realizing that he was actually seeing the reflection of his own tormented grey ones.

“i don’t answer to you, sunshine,” she retorted cheekily.

mason ran his thumb over her cheek, feeling something unfamiliar lodge itself in the back of his throat. “please,” he whispered, his voice strangled and hoarse.

her eyes widened slightly. the word was as unfamiliar for her to hear as it was for him to say.

“i’ll try,” she said, squeezing his hand one more time before nudging him toward the door.

mason reluctantly left, looking over his shoulder back at her as agent chana began securing her to the bed, the gnawing pit in his stomach growing as he took in a rare expression of concern on adam’s face.

“what did she ask you to do?”

adam gave him a long, stoic glance before reaching into his pocket. mason already knew that it was a vial of dmb before adam had even removed it from his pants. he stared at the glass container, the color of the liquid inside confirming its purity and potency before meeting adam’s gaze again.

the feeling of dread in his stomach seemed to match the fear reflected in adam’s face. mason turned back to face the window to the room, hoping for once in his life that his instincts were wrong.

as promised, nate and felix kept rebecca as far away from the room and the process. they all knew things could go south and rebecca was better off only knowing the final result once it was all over.

despite her willingness and determination to turn, it seemed that ria had expected the worst to come true. it bothered him more than he wanted to admit that she hadn’t confided in him, even if it was because she knew he’d want her to call off the whole thing.

and as promised, adam and chana did their best to control the situation. the agency tried every known tactic to temper and lock away her feral side after she was turned. but the way she was turned, probably because of her mutated blood, was unlike anything the agency had ever seen before.

she was too strong, and it was all too much.

he watched as the woman he loved faded away a little more each day. every physical and psychic attempt to subdue her seemed to tear him apart inside tenfold.

after a week, he knew the blue-eyed person scratching and snarling at everything in sight was no longer the person he had hoped to spend eternity with.

so when the time came and the forms were handed to him, mason didn’t hesitate.

he signed the order and held on to her as tightly as he could during the procedure, despite her thrashing against him and the restraints. he held her for as long as he could even after her body stilled and her breathing had stopped.

he held on to her even when rebecca stormed in and cradled her child’s head in her hands, weeping hysterically for hours. his grip tightened even as adam and nate repeatedly murmured that he needed to let her go.

he knew they were right, at least, in that particular moment. funeral arrangements would have to be made and her body would need to be prepared. so, he let them take her body.

but he knew he’d spend the rest of his immortal life holding on to her.
