Daniel points out the fog and how it’s “almost like someone sent it here to stop that madman” (paraphrasing) and the way Maura defends him 😭. I can’t help but feel bag for Daniel. I love him but Eyk and Maura are my beloveds they’re my otp I cannot help it.

Anyways I think it’s really interesting how the conversation plays out ESPECIALLY after the scene with Ángel and Ramiro; again paraphrasing because I don’t have much time to find the exact quotes, but Ángel says something along the lines of “you can’t change the nature of things, I will always be who I am and you will always be who you are” and thinking abt the true husband/key eyk theory makes me want to implode. Maura is constantly choosing Eyk, she does in the beginning by opening up to him the way she does, (I’m sure there are faults in my statements but like I said they’re my otp and I’m just excited to ramble about them) and even though their letters all say trust no one they have this weird invisible pull to each other. Also before I joined tumblr, everytime I rewatched it I would always focus on Sebastian. I think it’s really interesting (I could be looking to much into this of course) that some of the time when Eyk and Maura are interrupted it’s because of Sebastian— and he always kinda has this look or behavior around them. It just makes me think if hypothetically he had seen this happen over and over again, he definitely sees patterns. Again with what Henry says, I don’t need to state the line because we all know it— takes me back to this same statement of “you can’t change the nature of things” god I love the dialogue in this show.

I just think personally, there are a lot of things I know I choose to exaggerate knowing Jantje and Bo write very with the flow of the show— (flashbacks to andreas saying he stopped trying to understand Jantje a long time ago gives me a giggle) but the way Eyk and Maura behave around each other is no coincidence I won’t except any other answers. They love each other.

How I feel about this character

I hated him when I was young (11-13), loved him when I was older (14-16 or 17), and now I’m a solid Darry enjoyer. I’m selective with my interpretations of him but generally speaking it’s fun seeing all the varying opinions! Minus the musical.

Healthy coping mechanisms 🩵. Okay jokes aside, I don’t really ship (and Paul/Darry is meh to me), but I think he’s either straight as hell or so deep in the closet he’s in Narnia.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Darry and Soda truly have such an interesting bond and I love it! I wish it was explored more but it’s from Pony’s perspective, so you know, not likely.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Also many. I’ll stick with the one least likely to get many arguments: he is ultimately just a blue-collar guy trying to make ends meet while still being young himself. I’m 20, I don’t know what’s going on. He’s 20 and he’s got more awareness than I do, but he’s still 20. (This is mainly in reference to, again, musical “Darrel”. I have beef.)

One thing I wish happened with this character in canon

Maybe more interactions with others? Idk, I want to see more about his connection with Dally and Two-Bit and (alleged) lack of one with Steve. Or maybe what he was like in high school! He was voted boy of the year which is a popularity thing, so he had to be decently well-liked.

How I feel about this character

Constantly mischaracterized, but genuinely fantastic if done correctly. He’s a lot like my best friend Sydney (with some overlap with me lol) and has a lot of grit that gets swept under the rug or blown out of the water. He CARES about people! But he’s also a snarky-but-scared 16 year old from the rough side of town so you know, multitudes. Anyway I love him. Underrated.

Dally (again), and his bond with Pony evolves in the story too! I kinda roll my eyes when people (teenagers) say there’s a ‘power imbalance’, but it is true that Johnny is more aware of Pony’s status as the “kid brother” than Pony is aware of it himself. I really do think they balance each other, one of them sees things the other can’t. Again, like me and Syd.

My unpopular opinion about this character

He’s not a toddler guys. Like every other character, he’s an abused kid in poverty (in my opinion, also a person of color) in the 1960s. I am not gonna stop y’all having fun or coping or what-have-you but tag your stuff PLEASE

Favourite thing? He’s the most some guy ever. Just a little creature. He’s so relatable because who among us hasn’t been in a situation where we feel wildly outclassed and surrounded by people who are cooler and more talented than us? Despite everything he just keeps going, what a legend

Least favourite is people who are wrong about him. How does anyone play that game and say he’s a nothing character? I just don’t get it, stop disrespecting my son

Honestly he’s got way more excellent lines than people give him credit for, but my favourite has to be “I always choose meat over veggies because I’m still in my teens… my meat teens.” Like WHAT are you talking about king I love it

Brotp probably him and Aoi. It’s the positivity besties

Otp is Naegiri. There’s just so much mutual respect between them and the story does a great job of writing them together that I can’t help but love him

Notp is probably just him with anyone that’s not kirigiri, or togami really. Whilst I personally hc Byakuya as aroace I do get why people ship naegami and I do think it’s kinda hilarious

I hc that him and Komaru are besties. Absolutely attached at the hip. They hang out all the time and he loves doing stuff with her, and is so so excited to introduce her to his new friends

To put it as succinctly as possible, he is just my favourite type of guy. He’s such a bitch, he’s so snarky about everything, he’s simultaneously the smartest and dumbest person in any given room, and he actually cares very deeply for things but he won’t readily admit to it. He’s got one of the more interesting arcs to me and in general I find him very relatable. He’s the best, my favourite protagonist probably

Least favourite is maybe less about him and more about Izuru Kamukura, and that is how underused he was. Obviously this is an opinion many people know about me, but it bears repeating because the concept of Kamukura was SO COOL and they barely even touched it and I’m mad about it every single day

Another guy that has so many good lines, but I think my favourite is “I thought I’d finally become someone I could be proud of, not some fucking backup student.” It just hits me so hard every time

Unpopular opinion (so far the only character I’ve had one for) is that he’s not bi, he’s just gay. And look I love headcanoning every character ever as bi (again tooooootally not projecting) but whenever I replay/rewatch the game I see him being so gay about the men and being so uninterested in the girls (excepted for the super-forced hinanami stuff that I ignore)

It’s so hard to pinpoint why I love Saihara so much, but I think part of it is the fact that underneath his anxious exterior, he is actually very snarky. I’m always a slut for the sarcastic characters and I like the he is that as well as being generally polite to his classmates. He cares deeply and has a tendency to overthink things (totally not relatable) and I just need to give this poor man a HUG

Least favourite thing is how he interacts with Ouma in the canon outside of ftes. A good example of this being when he finds Ouma bleeding from the head on the floor and doesn’t seem to show any actual concern for him, which seems very out of character to me. I just think there was a lot more they could’ve done to build a connection between protag and antag that would’ve served to make the story more interesting, much the way the relationship between Hinata and Komaeda does

Short and sweet, my favourite Saihara line is simply “I refuse.” I am a big supporter of the idea that Shuichi should’ve been allowed to go a little crazy in chapter 6, and his whole telling off hope and despair speech was very fun. He really went “fuck you and your stupid game” and I just love it

Brotp has gotta be Kaito and Maki. I love the training trio and I think they have a great dynamic

Otp is saiouma. And yes I know I just raised a complaint about their lacklustre interactions in the game, but hey, canon can’t hurt me if I don’t look. There is a lot of potential for excellent character dynamics and that’s what I’m gonna focus on

Notp is saimatsu. Sorry anyone who likes them but it’s so comphet to me. Again, that is a gay boy and a lesbian, not a romantic couple

I hc that he really likes singing. Not to a professional degree or anything, but he does it while he works and it serves as a calming vocal stim for him. His voice is definitely very soft and sweet, which doesn’t lend itself well to his preferred genre of music (my sweet sweet emo boy) but that doesn’t stop him from trying

Again, so many songs I could choose from, but I will go with Swing Life Away by Rise Against because he’s just my sweet guy, my love, my boy

As someone very neutral over Asahi, I really have to say that he is portrayed as the ace amazingly. Even though he isn't the main character and can't score all the epic points, he's still an inherently powerful force and you always trust in him when the ball goes his way, as this viewer.

Shen Yuan was chronically ill before he transmigrated and he died not just due to choking but because a seizure happened during his rage-eating. We know he's an unreliable narrator, hence why he never mentions this - he hated being ill and felt ashamed by it, so he never wants to think about it now he's no longer sick.

A prompt for this could be Shen Qingqui gets wife plotted and the consequence is far too similar to how he lived his old life that he keeps nearly breaking over it. Could lead to an identity reveal or just some good ol' hurt/comfort

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending? 

Yamagata has clinical depression. Idrk where this came from but it's something I very much stand by and have lots of interlocking ideas with so, yeah, no one is changing my mind on that.

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

Mu Qing (TGCF/Heaven Official's Blessing) - he's my favourite because of his complicated character. He says negative things, the rumours about him is how he is cold and unkind, yet we see his actions and behaviour portrayed very differently. He's a truly complicated guy.

Goshiki Tsutomu (Haikyuu) - I've written an essay on him which I now cannot find??? I'll have to fish it out but basically he's a really well written character whom performs so hard despite the anxiety he's visibly under being in such an infamous team

Shen Yuan (SVSSS/Scum Villain's Self Saving System) - he's a nerd who died and is now a hot guy but has the nerve to complain about it, he's just like me and I love that.

“Casey was investigating an underground lab on his own. His comm was turned off as he was getting sick of the others teasing him for what happened the other day.

Didn’t matter. He moved some test tubes as he looked around. Maybe if he found something interesting his teammates would leave him alone.

Casey picked up a canister with a blue green ooze in it. He held it up to see what it could be.

“Hi again” Casey jumped and dropped the canister upon hearing that. The canister shattered on the floor as he quickly turned around,

Karai sat on a table as she gave him a flirty look.

“Oh no. I’m not dealing with you again” Casey said as he walked towards her.

“Ohh. Did I do something wrong?” Karai asked as he grabbed her wrist.

“You bit me!” Casey responded with a growl. Karai smiled.

“I can do it again” she said as her eyes shifted to gold snake eyes and stuck out a serpent tongue.

Casey thought as he blushed. “I had to get freakin branches through my veins to make sure I wasn’t poisoned!” He yelled.

“Yick” Karai said with a chuckle. “Anyway: you’re comin with me” Casey said.

“Gonna have to catch me first” she said. Casey gave her a confused look.

“I already di- DOW!” He yelped as her tail smacked his face, causing him to let go.

He rubbed his nose as he saw her in her snake form quickly slither away.

“SERIOUSLY?!” He yelled as he chased after her. The two ran around the place as Casey tried to catch her, accidentally going on all 4s at points.

Eventually, she led him to a room with a huge vat below them. Karai had nowhere to go as the bridge they were on hit a dead end that would cause her to fall in the vat.

“Ha! Can’t slither away now can ya?!” Casey yelled triumphantly. Karai didn’t respond as she looked around.

Casey walked closer as she had nowhere to go. “Ok this time” Casey started as he grabbed her arm.

“NOW you’re coming with me” he said with a smirk. Karai gave him a strange look that he couldn’t read.

She then jumped into the vat, using her tail and arm to drag Casey with her.

“SHI-“ Casey yelled as he was pulled down. The two fell into the water and were sucked down a pipe.

Luckily Casey didn’t need to able to breathe or he would’ve most likely drowned as they went through twisting and turning pipes.

After a while, he eventually fell out of the tube into the middle of a dump with a river flowing around it.

He sat up with an extremely annoyed face as he spit out some water, his soaked hair sticking to his face.

He saw Karai in her human form standing on a mountain or trash, waving at him cockily.

He emitted a toxic green glow as he growled in anger.

“That’s it” he growled as he got up and pressed the button on his belt. He grew back to his “normal” size as he looked at Karai with pure rage.

He stood up and slammed his fist into the trash mountain Karai was standing on, not thinking about his actions.

Casey looked around confused as he had no idea where she went. “There you are” she said in a sing song voice as she popped up behind his hair.

Casey quickly grabbed her off his shoulder, keeping a tight grip as he held her up to his face.

“Sheesh. You seem riled up. Gonna take me up the Empire State Building king ko- DAH!” She yelled as her body was being crushed.

“I am DONE playing games” he growled at her. “Who are you? How do you know me? What do you want?” He interrogated her.

“K-kinda hard to explain when you’re- Guh- crushing my lungs” she gasped out.

Casey’s green glow dimmed as he realized what he was doing. He looked away in horror as he loosened his grip, causing her to gasp as she could finally fully breathe.

What the hell was he doing?

He thought as he processed his actions. He took a deep breath as he looked at her. “Ok. If I let you go, will you stop screwing around and tell me what your deal is” he asked her.

“Sure. But only if you knock it off with the trying to take me in stuff” she said. He sighed.

“Fine” he responded as he set her on top of the roof of a small building in the junkyard, sitting on his legs to talk to her.

He layed his arms on the roof as he looked at her. “So who are you” he asked.

“Names Karai. Yours?” She asked with a smile as she sat on a gated fan.

“Hey this is your questioning. Not mine” he said as he pointed at her.

“So you can ask me personal and invasive questions but I can’t do the same? That doesn’t seem fair” she said slyly.

Casey groaned. “Fine. My names Casey Jones” he responded.

“I didn’t know giant monsters get last names” she joked. “I’m not a monster” he said defensively.

“I mean.. you’re gigantic, glowing green and tried to crush me to death so-“ she started.

“That was an accident!” He responded. “How do you accidentally try to squeeze someone to death?” She asked.

“I was just- wait we’re getting sidetracked” Casey realized.

“Back to the topic. How are you a shapeshifting snake…. lady… thing?” He asked.

“Ooh! Now that’s a fun story. But I’ll only tell if you tell me how a guy like you ended up with people like them” she said.

Casey thought about it. “Fine. But you first” he said.

“Fair” she responded. She took a deep breath as she started.

“Have you ever heard of the foot militia?” She asked. Casey thought.

Weren’t those the crazy soldier guys that went after them sometimes?

“Sorta?” He said as he scratched his head. “Ok so here’s what you need to know about em” she started.

“They’re a bunch of crazy f••ks who are led by the ultimate crazy f••k that is the Shredder”

“He wanted to create the ultimate army in order to conquer anything he could. Using the research of mutation by ancient aliens, he would turn some of his men into monsters. Sometimes the subjects were willing. Other times they were his prisoners that were mutated as punishment. Almost none of them survived. At least with their mind intact”

“And you were one of them?” Casey asked. She looked at him and then looked away as she remembered.

She sighed. “I was his ultimate experiment. His heir. His daughter…” she said as her cool girl facade was starting to shed.

Casey have a sad look as he could see some of her pain. “He… he didn’t..” he stuttered.

“He did” she finished. “I don’t consider him my father anymore..” she said.

Casey felt regret for asking. “I’m sorry” he said. He tapped his finger as he wasn’t sure what to say.

“My dad wasn’t AS bad. But he wasn’t exactly a great guy either” he said.

Dammit what are you doing?

He thought to himself. “Was your dad Godzilla or…” she tried to joke but was struggling to put the cool girl act back on.

“No my dads human” he responded. “Oh” Karai paused. “So you take after your mother?” She asked jokingly, starting to regain her composure.

Casey thought back to his mom. How a lot of his physical traits were inherited from her. Well….

“I used to” he said. Karai gave him a confused look. “Both my parents are human” he said.

“Well then how did two humans create… this whole situation?” She asked as she gestured to him.

“They didn’t. A meteor did” he responded. “Wait…” Karai started.

“You used to be human too?” She asked with a smile. “I still am!” He said defensively.

“Riiiight” she said with a chuckle. “Cause most humans have grey skin and are 50 feet tall” she said sarcastically.

He glared at her. “So how did you come across a meteor?” She asked.

“Well. It landed in my backyard and my sister and I went to investigate” he started.

“And I… fell into the crater and smacked into the thing… and I think absorbed the radiation from it” he finished.

Karai burst out laughing. “You literally FELL into it?!” She said as she laughed.

Casey glared at her. “Oh shut up! That was the worst night of my life!” He yelled.

“I’m sure it was” she said as she was still laughing. “But to think. It all could’ve been avoided if you just weren’t a clutz” she finished while still cackling.

Casey’s face turned “red” from anger and embarrassment as he tried to get her to stop laughing.

“Stop laughing! I could smash you right here!” He yelled.

“Ooh! Fast and loose I see? Just my type” she said while lying on her back on the gated fan, looking at him upside down.

“SHUT UP!” Casey yelled in a high pitched voice, his face bright green from his blushing.

I have been the biggest fan of this one ship for as long as I remember. Back in high school, I developed an interest in Homestuck. I obsessed over John Egbert specifically.

As I read fanfiction and looked at fanart, no ship sparked. I didn’t really care. I would read and yeah it’s cute and blah blah blah not my OTP.

Then the worst thing could have happened.

I looked at a crack ship and then I was fxcked. The more I thought about it, the more I loved it. Karkat who? Dave who? Dirk who? Sollex and Eridan who? Literally everyone that’s a common ship WHO?

It didn’t stick with me.

Caliborn.

I had this idea of Calliope getting to John first and then breaking up for one reason or another.

Then Caliborn and John date or live together for other reasons.

Calliope doesn’t really come into the equation anymore or show up in my daydreams.

I don’t why, but I thought it was adorable if John just got bothered by Caliborn at every turn. They’d bother and fight and just it was cute how much they antagonized.

Then I started developing my trans Headcanon and June eventually makes her first appearance without her being June. It’s only recently (late 2022? - 2023) that I heard the name June and went from there.

I would draw and write fanfiction after fanfiction adding and subtracting details.

June stays 8ft tall and Caliborn is slightly shorter by a few feet or inches.

Caliborn gets rid of the half shaved hair look for short curly hair.

I couldn’t stop doodling John all over my school work to the point my science teacher recognized him when I gave her a little quiz. She had a bearded dragon in the classroom and I loved holding them during class :3

Thank you <3 I feel like I'm just going to repeat all the things I've already said about them in various other places but, whoa-kay, let's go!

002 | Give me a character: FENRIS

How I feel about this character: Ugh, god. Best boy in the whole series. I relate a lot to his feelings of betrayal, his fear of vulnerability, the obsession with his own capacity for evil, and his everpresent need to rationalise and overthink to try to justify or curtail the needs propelling his behaviour. And outside of me, I think his capcity to be adoring and gushy with the people he loves is very endearing. He’s also imo the companion who has the best visible character growth arc in the series. It’s so lovely watching him come into his own identity over his time in Kirkwall, and I love seeing how he changes between the three acts of the game &lt;3

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Anders. Justice. Isabela. Merrill, kinda. In the unlikely circumstance that she gets to do something fucked up enough in the name of protecting him to give him a boner. Hawke, when Hawke looks and behaves in ways that are nothing like actual canon Hawke. (Rant incoming.) Aveline and Donnic, maybe? I feel like I haven’t figured out a way to make it work that’s not just him being their exotic unicorn which makes me want to punch them both (hope you understand) so I can’t actually justify this one. Velanna would be funny too. I have the need to see it happen.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Merrill. God, she is just- a friggin hilariously awful troll to him in canon and I always wanna take it further. Her talking down to this amnesiac, making excuses for the fact that her little brother elf is very stupid ‘forgive him! he only has seven years of life experience to draw from!’ In a terrible, awful, and funny way, I think Merrill having this connection to another elf she can relieve some of this First to the Keeper condescention onto is nice for her. And Fenris having an elf blood mage in his life that the last thing he needs to do is try to protect or even be nice to is nice for him. They’re both great. Five stars.

My unpopular opinion about this character: He’s got the worst canon romance in the whole game. (Rant incoming.) But within the worst canon romance of the whole game, he has the best scene for helping Hawke grieve Leandra. Idk, I’ve been in Hawke’s shoes there, and I wish I’d had someone like Fenris with me. Who knew there was nothing to say to make it better, but was willing to be there regardless.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: (Rant) Literally any overt textual acknowledgement anywhere that Fenris has made Hawke the outlet for his conditioning with Danarius - following Hawke around to protect him, killing people on Hawke’s command, wearing the Amell coat of arms in the romance, voicing his love for Hawke in the terms of possessive ownership (‘I am yours’), and showing unwavering devotion in the midst of the people around them saying dehumanising racist things about Fenris that Hawke makes absolutely no efforts to stop (ie. Carver calling Fenris Hawke’s ‘pet elf’ in the combat commands). Literally any overt acknowledgement that Hawke is a Hightown noble and Fenris is an elvhen foreigner and second-class citizen that relies on Hawke’s goodwill for immediate physical protection against slave hunters. Literally any overt acknowledgement that, in the fenhawke romance scene, Hawke decided that Fenris impulsively kissing them, directly after Fenris faced down his abuser and learned he had a sister, was an invitation for both pinning Fenris against a wall and any sex that followed after. Literally any overt acknowledgement that this is a completely unreasonable situation to expect someone with a history of abuse and slavery and child grooming be comfortable flexing their own agency and right to not consent to sex. Except perhaps after it’s already happened, which is when Fenris finally does so. I don’t know - I don’t even fully blame Hawke for not understanding some of this but... Man, I want Fenris to get ANGRY about some of it. I think he should go a little feral. I want him to unapologetically do more things that aren’t in Hawke’s best interests, but his own. Maybe unapologetically do some things in his own best interests that screw Hawke over entirely.

my OTP: Ugh, yeah, it’s fenders. And I hate saying that right after I’ve gone on that (Rant) up there ^ because I feel like it definitely makes me look like bitchy ship war trash. I swear it’s not like that! (I’m not sure I’d believe me either) Anyhow, yeah, disclaimer is I know Anders is a racist no-boundaries asshole menace. And I think any portrayal of this relationship worth a damn has Anders dial back the aggression and at least tacitly acknowledging that it’s unfair to ask Fenris to take up mage liberation as his cause. But, man, they want so much of the same things out of a realtionship. Like, a connection that fulfills their every cathartic desire for family and domesticity and safety - the safety to be just unreservedly gushy and devoted and adoring with their partner and ‘I’d commit attrocities for you’. They are both sooo intense in their romance scenes. It is TOO MUCH. Too much for anyone but one another, I mean. They should try fucking that out with one another. Also, like, nice tasty foils goodness of two ex-slaves with WILDLY different experiences of it. I think what gets me about Fenris is that he’s clearly internalised a lot of apologist rhethoric about his own slavery. Like the idea that someone sufficiently dangerous should be enslaved for the safety of others. Which you know is something that people in Tevinter said about him, Mr LyriumWolf BioWeapon. I think Fenris is quick to project this POV onto Anders and, in the moments when Anders makes these angry comments about how Fenris is a violent monster, I feel like you can hear Fenris bracing for the conclusion that he thus does not deserve to be free or deserve Hawke et al’s help fighting off his would-be captors. Because I don’t think he has the self-confidence and rhethoric to really argue against that. But, like, even if he’ll talk a lot of smack about Fenris in other ways, this just isn’t somewhere that Anders is going to take things. Because Anders believes that there are inherent rights to being a person and violences nobody deserves. And this is also something Anders has had the self-assuredness and presence of mind to argue for himself and other mages, even when the entire rest of the world is working against him. And that’s something about Anders that I think in the right circumstances that Fenris could be a little awed by and take inspiration from. A little more willingness to burden others with his problems, and to believe in and advocate for himself - that he deserves better, and that he deserved better even when he was at his worst. That’s what the ship is about for me.

a headcanon fact: I seem to have a lot of opinions about the books he likes to read. He likes reading nonfiction, history and economics and architecture. And also poetry. He does not like Varric’s pulp novels, lol.

002 | Give me a character: MERRILL

How I feel about this character: Ugh, god. Best girl in the whole series. I love how sweet and thoughtful she can be, and how she’ll extend goodwill towards the other companions at their lowest even when they obstinately haven’t done much to ‘deserve’ it from her. But it’s the moments when she’s not being sweet at all that that I really start to love her. Like, the way she’ll bait people like Aveline and Sebastian and Anders and Fenris with these ‘innocent’ questions that are so brimming with passive-aggressive missle-guided criticism (Asking Aveline why she doesn’t arrest them, and whether Aveline’s a bad guard, and watching Aveline get defensive about it, is one example of many that come to mind.) She’s just very cutting and insightful in all the right moments. And... even though I don’t feel like I agree with the general dogma of the game about blood magic, I do think through that conflict they captured Merrill’s own inability to accept critique well. I think it’s something you see a lot in people with a history of emotional abuse like Merrill, where she’s been criticised so much for anything she tries to do, that she’s just become completely unable to engage with any well-intentioned critique anymore, so she gets very withdrawn and stubborn instead. This is actually the last section of the meme I’m filling out and I’m a bit out of steam. I don’t feel like I really did best girl justice with this description but WRAAAAGH- Know that I love her to pieces.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Anders. Hawke. I realise that Hawke is pretty patronising and paternalistic with her in the canon romance, and I’m not sure I can even say it’s less exploitative than fenhawke up there ^  But she is the character that I tend to come around on wanting to romance as Hawke most. Hopefully I find ways to make it work that aren’t, well, upsetting. Fenris, kinda. And Isabela, kinda. As described up there ^ and in the Isabela ask here, respectively. Bethany/Merrill seems cute enough. Carver/Merrill interests me too, but only really in specific circumstances. I feel like the appeal of the ship is them both having inferiority complexes out the wazoo, and all this baggage about their families and not being taken seriously. And then they both come together to act this out on one another and ultimately work past it. Also farmboy hick Carver really projecting the idea of Merrill being this innocent, naive, out-of-her-depth sweet Madonna that knows even less about the world than he does - and then getting slapped with the fact that there are a lot of assumptions he’s making there as a man and a human that are wildly offbase. Haha, get wrecked, Carver! Also Aveline, kinda? It’s hard for me to wholly imagine going much of anywhere without Isabela between them (also because, you know, the Guard’s violences against the Alienage) but I think their friendship is underrated. They have a lot of cute and snazzy banters. I like the one from Mark of the Assassin where Merrill says they should get matching costumes and be crime-fighting partners together. Morrigan, in an angry ‘fuck you shem Eluvian stealer’ way. Dagna, in a ‘magic researchers and science nerds’ way. Pol, in an ‘evil arachnophobia horror’ way. Audacity, in an ‘awful incel tries to posess your mom when you reject him’ way. I have written a LOT of Merrill ships at this point.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Fenris. As per the above response in his section. That said, Fenris actually imo says the worst and cruellest thing anyone says in the whole game, to Merrill. Anders definitely takes the next 4+ spots on the Worst Things These Characters Have Said to One Another List, but #1 for me is definitely Fenris calling Merrill a monster in the immediate aftermath of Pol’s death. What a dick (affectionate).

My unpopular opinion about this character: She is a person capable of evil. That’s what having agency and power are - the capability to do good and evil. That does not mean I think it’s a power that she shouldn’t have and shouldn't cultivate, quite the opposite. So I need more fic about Merrill being sexy and evil (and also taking it up the butt).

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: It’s a shame Merrill’s quests are really so much Dalish infighting. I wish we could have had more information about her actual goals. What she is trying to accomplish with the Eluvian and her work in the Alienage. In her banters we see some pretty scathing opinions about humans and their culture. And I think any work she does organising and helping Alienage elves is ultimately going to be pretty violent and revolutionary, knowing the kind of disenfranchised that Alienage elves are, and knowing Merrill’s own skillset for helping is, um, highly specialised (murder, blood magic, crafting, and more murder). It’s extra disappointing knowing that Justice & Velanna were the original plan for DA2 instead of Justice & Anders. I wish we could have seen Dalish issues be given the kind of weighty treatment that mage issues ended up getting. But, idk... I feel like Trespasser went more in that direction and then just used it to shit all over indiginous cultures so... :/

my OTP: Merders, or Anders/Merrill. I wrote a post once about how I felt these two characters were far more similar than the game wanted to allow, and how I didn’t feel the game gave proper weight to Andrastian Chantry Imperialism as the base cause for both the mage and Dalish genocides. Those are still the ideas I like being at the centre of Anders and Merrill’s relationship. A lot of the vibes from Act 3 in the game are when I really start to feel this relationship because, like- they’re both at that point struggling with the fact that they’ve made huge sacrifices and concessions to seeing through their goals, and neither are sure that they can actually accomplish those goals anymore, and neither really feels like they can be dogmatically assured that they alone are correct or that the ends don’t justify the means they have each chosen. And I like how she seems a bit in awe of his determination and resillience in spite of that. Also Merrill’s nonreaction to TLS, lol. Going off what I said about Chantry Imperialism - I think of all the companions, Merrill easily has the most reason to want to see Anders wipe the Kirkwall Chantry off the face of the damned map. On a more personal note, I like exploring the kind of condescending protectiveness that Anders feels towards Merrill as another mage, and how Merrill both invites this and rejects this at different points, as it reminds her of Marethari’s controlling/sabotaging protectiveness. And also I like when Anders is a racist asshole and harangues Merrill about her differing cultural ideas about things like blood magic, and then she smacks back and slaps him with her own aggressions. Idk, so many of the companions she’s different levels of complacent with when they talk down to her or belittle her. I just kinda love that Anders gets her riled up enough to smack back.

my cross over ship: I don’t think I have one.

a headcanon fact: I don’t headcanon the mage characters actually walking around Kirkwall with staffs most of the time. I think for Anders just casting with his hands works best, both because it kinda plays up the feral abomination angle, and because I think him needing to get his hands on everything suits his boundary issues. For Merrill I imagine her weapon/casting focus of choice being an obsidian knife from her clan. It keeps showing up in all the fics I write about her :’)

One of my favorite memories is my friend Roslyn having a panic attack. Sounds fucked up and if you think about it it kinda was but sometimes when things are out of control. When I have to deal with other peoples emotions. When I feel like I just can’t help then. I think back to that moment.

So the story is we alone in class. Sometimes I just don’t feel like eating lunch so I go to the library or to a empty class room and just sit there. It’s quiet and nobody ever notices. I guess this time he noticed and was following me. I sat down. Put all my stuff down and was gonna take a nap at the desk but he walked in right when I was gonna put my head down.

I looked at him and.. idk what happened to me but I went full father mood. Full “who the fuck did this to my child” mind set because he was crying. Not tearing up. Not frowning. Crying. Tears going down his face and he couldn’t stop.

Roz is a pretty big guy. Like I think 6’0 of at least 5’10 and built. He got some muscle and shit. He’s in weight lifting class. This matters because seeing someone like that crying is.. borderline insane.

So he walks in and crying. I instantly get up and run over to him. Asking him omg what’s wrong what happened whatever. We didn’t know each other too well either like.. this was last semester. We just met a few months ago at this point but we instantly click.

So I’m asking him what’s up what happened and he tells me he has frequent panic attack. Like every single damn day. Sometimes it feels like it never goes away. He’s just crying. Telling me he has such bad anxiety and it’s so embarrassing but he hates being around people and it just reaches a point where he just breaks down and cries.

He told me he can usually hold it in until after school since he only has 2 classes per day and shit so he’s only there till lunch and leaves. So he basically does what I do all the time and that’s hold in his panic attack as to not embarrass himself. I do the same thing. Everyday I have a panic attack but I just act like it’s not happening. Even if I’m just otp with my bf because it’s awful. I don’t want him to worry and he’s already goin though shit. Tbh i haven’t been able to talk to him much anyway because of that but back to the point. I have a panic disorder and so does this big fucking guy.

He tells me his heart just can’t stop beating and he’s so ashamed he can’t just hold it in, and he just leans on me and cries my name for a good minute.

At this point I close the door and sit him down at a desk. He’s in one chair and I’m in the other. He lays his head on my chest and wraps his arms around me. Just.. crying. Begging me to forgive him for doing this.

I’m usually awful at dealing with peoples emotions especially when it’s random like this but I just did it. I held him and told him it’s ok. I told him in not made and what’s important is he gets though this.

Ime really really sleepy so I’m gonna finish this tomorrow. I’d I reamemver. Sleep sleep.
