favorite thing about them

Where do I start. Nyx being the primordial being, God in the persona universe. All life comes from her. She’s the beginning and the end, she is death itself. Having death be put inside a small boy and his kindness and love making death want to be human itself. Wanting to repay that kindness and love, feeling guilt at the way it treated the small boy, ruining his life.

The fact that Ryoji is Death, is Thanatos, is Pharos, is Nyx. They’re all the same being. The concept and execution of that, who had no feelings either way before, being treated so kindly to the point where it takes forms this bond with P3 Hero. Protecting him from the first arcana shadow as Thanatos on the first full moon of the game. The culmination of these forms is of course Mochizuki Ryoji. Who’s become soft and sweet. He copies P3 Hero’s appearance and gender and is everything that he never knew he wanted to be.

He loves the world so much, loves humanity so much. He’s so endlessly kind and having that kindness be a direct reflection of P3 Hero makes it that much sweeter. The fact he created this form because of his desire to have it and desire to separate himself from Nyx is the sweetest thing in the world. Especially when they’re all still the same being. Ryoji just has a hard time putting that in perspective again, he doesn’t want to be that, (Evident by his dumb Ryoji phase) doesn’t want to go back to that. It’s so sweet. He’s the cutest in the world.

Him and Junpei are so good it’s unreal. Just bros being bros. They hang out, are the most frat of guys and its hilarious. But when Junpei is going through a rough time Ryoji always knows exactly what to say. I find it so sweet.

They are literal soulmates. They are one another. Mirror images. Love birds. Codependent cats. Made for each other in the most literal of senses. Ryoji made his form from Minato so they could spend time together. Minato taught Death kindness.

This is a bit odd to type out but pretty much anyone who isn’t P3 Hero with Ryoji? I see Ryoji as only being made for one person in particular, so the others just don’t appeal to me in the same way.

- Ryoji going a step further and taking Minato’s hair and eye color. Draining a blue Minato used to have til his are bright and shining. The same way he absorbed his kindness.

- He is crazy codependent. Like crazy codependent. If he was able to touch Minato for a split second in November they would never be able to let go of one another. That’s why Minato had to avoid him in FES.

-He's really warm! Got that from Minato too so he's left with all the cold. Ryoji's fun to hug though :)

- Him and Minato watch over the world together in the great seal! Ryoji shares the knowledge while Minato catches up on rest and helps explain new concepts to him when he wakes up. He’s his doorman ^_^ (ha)

- He would really enjoy working retail if he ever got the shot. He loves people in general. Getting to meet them, talk to them, the whole shebang.

- He’s embarrassed of being Pharos. Like people get of old baby photos.

- Ryoji is metaphorically trans baby. Wanting to copy Minato and preferring being called Ryoji, a boy. It makes talking about Gods a bit difficult. Dysphoria and all. Poor thing experiences it in the weirdest of ways. But as Minato and Ryoji continue to be the seal, it’ll get easier.

- He likes sunrises and cheesy rom coms and fairy tales. Classic knight and princess stories. Kind of has the most normal taste ever, but a romantic at heart.

- Speaking of normal, I think “Dumb Ryoji” is a representation on what Minato would have been like if Death was never sealed inside of him. Perfect friends with all of the right people, charming, a bit of a playboy, and best friends with Junpei.

I personally don’t imagine Ryoji with a sexuality. His human form was made as a mirror to Minato, and so interacting with him throws him off course. He acts different around him, it confuses him. I don’t see anything Dumb Ryoji does as being a real representation of who Ryoji is.

I first encountered IdiVil back when I was just getting into the fandom after finishing the prologue, I saw some fanfiction about them and that was probably what mostly got me in lol I just really enjoy their dynamic, also I think they'd be like good for each other? Bringing out the strongest qualities while also working on the weaker ones if it makes sense

As for other ships, I am a multishipper so name anything and I'm most likely either actively shipping it or just think it could be a cute thing (obviously except for inc3st, p3d0 and all that stuff). not entirely certain i have one? i think the "bedman while flawed is not actually a terrible person and was doing his best given his extremely fucked up circumstances" is a pretty cool take by this point for most people

i think the only thing i have is that my interpretation of bedman has always been as like a young adult rather than a kid but like i dont really have a concrete opinion on that and i totally understand people who do see him as a kid like its entirely understandable to do so

Favorite thing about them: She's just... Very funny and messy and relatable. She has SO NOT her life together. It's nice to see a character that feels human once in a while.

Least favorite thing about them: She's so dismissed by the author, and yet she feels like she has so much potential... I really wish the narrative would explore her character more. Not only, I wish she was treated with more sensitivity and respect. You can write about abuse; I dare say, it's a good thing to write about abuse! But you should be respectful about it, and DEFINITELY not treat it as a gag. A lot of Higuchi's character - the physical abuse she faces, her infatuation with her abuser - make very interesting themes you can explore in literature; just do so in a way that doesn't stripe the character of dignity, you know? Which a lot of times feels like what's being done to Higuchi.

Favorite line:

brOTP: Pretty much Higuchi and any pm member, Gin, Tachihara, Hirotsu (Gin especially, I find the whole “call me onee-san” thing Higuchi has going on with her very endearing). I really like the tough front she assumes when facing the ada, and I've found her interactions with Atsushi really cute, I'd like to see more of them. Also, I totally believe Higuchi and Kunikida are online friends who don't know they actually know each other irl. I really like to explore her relationship with Akutagawa, I wish once Akutagawa has matured to be a decent human being they could be like. Cordial coworkers.

OTP: I really wish she would stay single tbh. Right now I find it hard to imagine her having an healthy romantic relationship with anyone? Which is what I wish for her, to be healthy and happy, a lot more than for other characters lol. She's just very easy to sympathize with.

nOTP: I've talked about how I'm not a big fan of higu/gin, but I don't take issues with it either, it's not that deep.

Random headcanon: About how she ended up in the mafia. She and her sister were raised by a single mother; when she died, Higuchi had to struggle to find a way to sustain the both of them. Stumbling on the streets, at some point someone posed a threat for her sister, and Higuchi assumed a very aggressive and violent stance to defend her. Akutagawa was passing by, and was struck by Higuchi's ardency, as well as her determination to protect her little sister even with her bare hands; so he took her in.

Unpopular opinion: I wish her romantic feelings for Akutagawa were acknowledged a little more. In general, the fandom openly discusses Akutagawa and Dazai's relationship, while the Higuchi and Akutagawa one, who mirrors it for the most part, gets largely dismissed. On one hand, I get it's unpleasant to talk about, since it evokes concepts of work harassment and women domestic abuse that are often disturbing to talk about since more often than not hit close to home. At the same time, that just translates in not talking about a big side of Higuchi's character that makes her complex and realistic, which is sad too.

nanananan nanashi 4 ask game🥹

favorite thing about them: NANASHI HAS STYLE, and I will die on that hill. People bitch and moan about Nanashi's "ugly" design, but he is PUNK and that fits really well with IVA's themes. I'd rather have a protagonist with a totally unique appearance than yet another bland kid. Maybe that is antithesis to the roots of SMT (they've always favored bland "nobody" characters), but I am nonetheless sticking to my stance. I love that he is dressed for the part as a Hunter, but still embraces his own sense of identity and style -- which frankly is important and natural for teens. I feel the same way about Asahi's own style. I love that Nanashi's design incorporates aspects of the two Akiras from IV. HE. HAS. GOOD. DESIGN.

least favorite thing about them: Once again this is more of an issue I have with IVA's writing and it is not solely about Nanashi, but I do wish that IVA did explore Akira's motivations more (especially with rescuing his sister, which is just absent in IVA) and how his actions and choices would've later impacted his later reincarnated self. There's a lot of stuff that Akira did in the background of IV that only barely gets examined IVA. Akira's "betrayal" toward the Hunters and Nanashi falling into that same fate makes for an interesting foil, but is just another foil that gets resolved way too quickly for my liking. Nanashi saves the day by repelling the Tokugawa Mandela and is immediately forgiven and praised by all with almost hardly any skepticism. Again it's an issue I have with IVA at large, but it still leaves me wanting more out of the characters and their development.

favorite line: Can I even say I have a favorite line from a silent protagonist, lol? I can say that I do like how "extreme" Nanashi is with his answers, either being very openly kind to downright crass and cold. It's much more extreme than some of Flynn's answers in IV. Arguably it makes IVA's alignment choices too obvious, but I like that it gives Nanashi a polarizing personality and it fits with his design too. Plus some of his anarchy answers are downright hilarious.

Additionally, I'm also amazed at Nanashi's "Dagda!" voice clip in the massacre route. For most of the game, he calls for Dagda in such a high-pitched voice. But as soon as you're locked in massacre, his voice suddenly turns really gruff and deep. Lmao??

brOTP: HE IS BROS WITH EVERYONE. But especially with Asahi, Hallelujah, and Navarre! I love his caring sibling relationship with Asahi, I love him being best of buds with Hallelujah, and I love that Navarre is basically like the cool fun uncle to him.

I posted that stupid edit of Morcedai and Rigby earlier, but actually Nanashi and Hallelujah are WAY more like Morcedai and Rigby. That's them for realll.

OTP: Nanashi x Hallelujah NATION LET'S GO. I will absolutely ship them both as bros and as a pair! They have the best ever chemistry.

random headcanon: I like to imagine that, even before the events of IVA, Nanashi has always had dreams of his past life -- just not as frequently or as "unusual" as they later would be, stuff that he'd just brush off and keep to himself. I also like to think that, partly cause of that, he feels a closeness or yearning towards the Sky Tower and Firmanent but cannot put into words as to why.

unpopular opinion: Nanashi's concept design (the one where he's older, has glasses, and the giant robot arm) sucks and I'm tired of people saying it is "superior" than Nanashi's final design. Maybe the older design would have worked better for an earlier story concept, but for the way IVA is now, it fucking sucks. You can't just switch Nanashi's design with that and expect it to seamlessly work with the game's narrative. People complain about Nanashi being a "discount Demi-fiend", but actually Nanashi's design is much more subtle and it HAS to be in order to work with the narrative. A giant robot arm is the very opposite of subtle.

God I'm just, so pissed at people saying Nanashi's design is "bad". I'm pissed I'm pissed!!

favorite thing about them: how do i even begin.... i love that she isn't a hero and doesn't become one through the narrative, i love that she is so blatantly posturing all of the time and she builds herself up to be this big confident sexy funnyman because she needs that to keep herself afloat but what she is in reality isn't any lesser! she is funny and she's shy and nervous and she's so powerfully butch to the bone in a way that avoids all negative stereotypes but still manages to highlight the pitfalls butches find themselves in. she has so many layers and people reduce her to some kind of himbo when in reality she's objectively both too mean and too intelligent to be a himbo. i love that you can sense from the very beginning that she is sitting on a massive broiling lake of sadness and for all of her posturing she is both incredibly delicate and one of the strongest characters in the story. i love that she sucks so bad and died a virgin like christ jesus and even missing half her soul she remains consistent not in her outward personality but in her ability to shield her soft underbelly through some sort of performative attitude but EVERYONE can see right through her except gideon herself because everything she does is loud and annoying. she's impulsive and passionate and. incredibly annoying. i hate her and she's my favorite person ever

favorite thing about them: i love love LOVE how trope-y she is. I can't think about her too hard, especially in the context of the geno run, my brain just stops working. goes into overdrive. her role as the true hero of the story and the tragedy and how she SHOULD win, she WOULD win, not just because it's the right thing, but because thematically, for the kind of story undertale wants to tell, she SHOULD win against undefeatable evil (think how we do basically that against flowey/asriel in TP) BUT SHE DOESN'T. SHE CAN'T. because she isn't the protagonist. and get backup plan doesn't work either. she dies in vain. they all do, but her case is even more painfully ironic.

least favorite thing about her: eehhh my only gripe with the writing is the fact that her dialogue doesn't make a distinction if you only killed monsters in the RUINs or not. or like, if you killed 1/2 common monsters instead of a dozen. it cheapens her impact as a character imo.

Sexuality Headcanon: in general i tend to base my sexuality headcanons either on what ships i like with them or on what would be most interesting for their stories, and while i do have at least one ship i like with either emmas (zemma for one and courtemma for the other), they're not the first thing i tend to think of when i think about their characters.

With that out of the way, uh Emma (reboot) is lesbian and asexual while Emma (RR) doesn't think about it much but i'd say lesbian. And maybe arospec. Not sure.

OTP(s): oops i spoiled it uhhh Zemma for reboot Emma and Courtemma for RR Emma, the former would make a cute couple + Emma deserves a chill partner and the later would match eachother's freak (weirdly athletic law students) + amicus curiae convinced me

BROTP(s): ok this i have actual material for since i tend to think of their friendships more often? They're both pretty lonely characters so giving them friends feels good :p

For Reboot Emma: yeah the BPD headcanon makes sense to me. I've been given pretty good reasoning after asking and it convinced me.

For RR Emma: ok this is more of a shared headcanon between her and her sister, but i headcanon both sisters as being french-vietnamese. Emma actually speaks vietnamese, but Kitty speaks french better than her.

General Opinion:

For both: they could never make me hate you Emma Total Drama

They're both great characters i happen to haven't thought about much but i love seeing posts about!!!

For reboot Emma: her character's story is so fucking tragic to me. Girl just wants to be liked by her peers and she seemingly doesn't even get that. She looses the one friend she made over a shitty relationship that she both tries to cling to and escape. I have a slight hope that the third season will be kinder to her but i really doubt it man :( let her be happy Fresh TV i beg

For RR Emma: i both haven't watched RR and like her sister Kitty a whole lot more, but she's good! I like how her dynamic with Kitty isn't perfect at first but they work to patch things up over the season (or so i've heard). Also, read Amicus Curiae if you haven't already it's awesome

TSENG OF THE TURKS

🎟️ SEXUALITY HEADCANON: Tseng's sexuality is basically "queer." He usually prefers men but he's had some exceptions through his life, and he doesn't really apply a label either way.

⚧️ GENDER HEADCANON: Tseng has a very firm concept of himself with a masculine presentation, but his concept of gender is very much "on low battery" so it's anyone's guess at this point. He just doesn't bother with labels in general, I guess.

💕 A SHIP: Tseeve (Tseng/Reeve) is my endgame only-acceptable OTP for Tseng. I'm practically a monoshipper when it comes to how I see him.

🖇️ A BROTP: Tseng+Vincent, although it takes a long time to get there. Tseng has some serious baggage about Vincent that he picked up before they even met, and he needs to work through it before they can have a proper accord. (Short explanation: it's Veld's fault.)

🚫 A NOTP: Don't kill me, but honestly TsengRu? Not just because my abusive ex was obsessed with it, but because it's pretty exhausting seeing the most Asian-coded character in a Japanese game reduced by a large part of fandom to a shallow, robotic accessory to a rich white guy.

💭 A RANDOM HEADCANON: When Tseng was younger, he chipped one of his front teeth during a mission; it was eventually repaired, but he was so self-conscious about it in the interim that he trained himself to casually cover his mouth when he smiled or laughed or did anything that might expose the chip, and then never trained himself back out of it. This is why he holds his hand up toward his mouth in CC when laughing at Zack.

🗣️GENERAL OPINION: Part of one of my top ten FF7 ships, and generally in my top ten favorite characters overall. He's got a lot of depth that is fun to play with, even if he is painfully difficult to draw!

favourite thing about them

I didn't pay much attention to him in Shibuya, he was just kinda there, but I did come to like him a bit more when we learned more about him at the beginning of the Culling Game. Honestly, when we focus more on him as a person, his bonds and convictions, I quite like him. Unfortunately, we don't really get much of that for the most part. For example, I love his interactions with Yaga and I'd like to know more about his sister. His thoughts about why he fights shortly before Sukuna knocked him out were quite touching too and honestly were more meaningful and did more for his character than Mei Mei, Nanami and Gojo explaining his character to us. Nice that they think he's a good person, but do they even know him? I'm not sure we've ever seen him interact with Nanami or Gojo. Nothing on all three that would make me believe he's anything more personal than a colleague. I would've loved to hear from Miwa, Yaga or his sister in their place. Y'know, the people who he actually thought of when gathering his courage to fight Sukuna. So I like that side of him, the rest is...eh difficult.

least favourite thing about them

He gets used way too much for exposition. It's basically his only role since he met up with the students. You don't really get much of his character in these instances because he's too busy being a mouthpiece for Gege infodumping on us. Also, I get he's bad at expressing his emotions, but I really don't like how he looks down on and berates Yuuji and Maki at times for example. He knows they need their strength and appreciates them for that, but also calls them stupid because Gojo failed to teach them something. He does care about all students in a broader sense (Miwa is clearly his favourite though), but I still get the strong impression that he sees Yuuji as merely Sukuna's vessel.

Yaga. Pretty much the only real ship I have with him. I liked their little scene in ch 147 already, but his last moments when facing Sukuna have made me actually consider them as a ship. What he says about Yaga and how he wishes he was there with him to give him advice or fight by his side was quite touching. I also like the little nod of Kusakabe getting the same injury that killed Yaga (I think Kusakabe will survive it though). I wish there was more about these two and the way Kusakabe cares about other people in his life. Hearing Yaga talk about Kusakabe during his fight and then have Kusakabe wonder what Yaga would say if he was still alive would have been really touching and much more fitting than those disjointed "interviews" (yes I'm still upset about that lol). But I mean generally, a couple that raises the dead together, stays together. They both have to work through the death of a child or children they were close to, so it doesn't surprise me that they got along so well. Yaga also manages to bring out the more vulnerable side of Kusakabe, which is what I'm really interested in. I wonder how their relationship started out exactly. There must've been something that made Yaga trust Kusakabe so much that he showed him the other autonomous corpses and told him at least a little bit about how they work. Was it the incident with Kusakabe's sister? Was Yaga involved or was he just trying to cheer him up afterwards and that got them talking about the respective people/children they lost? I think this is definitely the most interesting aspect of Kusakabe's character.

nOTP

Don't have one, although there are a couple of ships I don't really see the appeal in like Kusakabe/Takaba. Why would they be interested in each other? But it's nothing I can't stand at all.

random headcanon

Usami is his sister and she used to be a sorcerer who at some point got traumatized to the point of being catatonic during a mission, where she also lost her son. It's also why he tries to tell himself that he won't risk his life for others anymore because he has seen what happens if you fail and he is scared of seeing other people he's close to die. So he emotionally distances himself and tries to not get too close with others or for others to develop an attachment to him.

He doesn't come off as a "cool guy" to me, just bitter and repressed. Also people shouldn't take everything he says as Word of God.
