before aden got me to watch smallville I always thought it was funny that I’d be like “I don’t really care for superman though” and aden would say “it’s not about superman it’s about Clark Kent” and I would be like ?? that makes no sense they’re the same guy but now that I’ve seen smallville I get it bc I see superman and I’m like I literally don’t know him

I like to think though it's not a legal marriage though?

Like I've thought about how marriage would work for TimBerKon since polygamy marriage is unlawful in all of north and south America. It is allowed in India, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines but only for Muslims. I tried looking up where in the world you could get married with 2+ people and gay married but nothing was popping up. (If you guys know where that's possible pls let me know).

So I think they're stuck with doing more a ceremony only than getting to all be legally married to each other. I don't think they mind too much though, I feel like the ceremony done right would be more than enough for them.

I do think everyone would be sad if they didn't get an invite to the wedding though :( With Jason and Roy it was more understandable bc they never intended to get married that day. They just got drunk in Vegas and it happened. Roy and Jason have no memory of it and NOBODY was "invited" (nobody can figure out how Cass knew)

I don't plan on TimBerKon getting married anytime soon, so I'll have to workshop some ideas for them for now, but I defo like where your mind went lol

the only way to meet elias is if you work at the archives. so the very first time you meet him is at your job interview. he's not creepy in a pervy sort of way but creepy in a... horror movie kinda way lol you felt like he was staring into your soul but he was hot so you forgave him.

you sit patiently, waiting to be called. you needed the job, with your savings account running low and your degree being of no use, you’d be willing to get on your knees and beg for a job. ‘if im gonna beg, i hope he’s hot at least.’

‘crushing loans’ “honestly, i’ve always wanted to work at a library! it’s very peaceful and i love to be surrounded by books, so when i saw the job listing, i knew i had to apply.” you smile.

he hums, “would you want to work with people or be down in the archives?”

you pause to think, ‘i’d rather work with people than a dingy basement, i guess…’ “i’d rather work with people. i’ve had a lot of-”

he interrupts you, “i’m glad to hear. do you have any other questions?”

‘are you married? do you date younger people?’ “i can’t think of anything right now.” you smile and shrug, sheepishly. he gives you an unnerving smile and you can feel your smile falter.

“you’re perfect.”

you rarely see him after that interview and the few times you do see him, it'll be glimpses of him leaving his office to meet the archival team or back.

in my mind, the day that like really sets him forward on persuing you would be like a one-on-one performance review or smth like that (im definitely not taking this from a fanfic i started and never finished or posted)

he listens to you talk about how much you love the job and get into your head to actually see what you mean... and what you mean is "i wanna fuck this guy". that piques his interest so he asks you the million dollar question.

"would you like to work in the archives? i think they could really use your skills down there." elias stares you down.

"sorry, what?" you were surprised at the offer. you hadn't said anything about wanting to work there, happy and content with your currect position and paycheck.

"of course, you would get a raise and a couple of other benefits, but i would love to work more closely with you (y/n)." he stands and moves in front of his desk, leaning against the table.

'more... closely....' your thoughts run wild as you feel heat creep up your cheeks. "i'm not sure how i could help, mr. bouchard." you wring your hands in your lap. elias leans down to grab your hands, softly. you feel his breath on your neck as he leans to whisper in your ear.

"please, love, call me elias."

Season 7x03-7x20

I just finished watching all the Clana scenes from S7...

Firstly, the beginning was so happy - Lana, Kara, and Clark at the farm. Clark's smile as he hugged Lana when she showed up at the barn. Lana making Clark his 'favourite blueberry pancakes' and Clark superspeeding to the store to get Vermont's finest maple syrup when Lana said they were out. Clark saying the food that Lana prepared was amazing. Lana acting like such wife material <3. Clark rightfully pulling back from the famous chick on his lap and Lana strolling in, introducing herself as Clark's girlfriend (plus this random famous chick also clocking that Lana is 'the center of Clark's universe like 5 minutes into meeting them). Clark confidently telling Lana that he has finally got everything he ever wanted and that it was right on that farm with her. Clark and Lana going horseback riding after a morning of Clark being weirdly romantic. Clark and Lana making earthquakes after...yeah. Clark opening up to Lana about stuff he did from S3 when she was almost walking out the door. Lana's eyes lighting up at Clark's honesty and her saying that she is still committed to them. Clark saying that he doesn't want their relationship to be over. My personal favourite is when Clark finds Lana at the farm with her hand on the burning pot handle, grabbing her hand, and in the softest voice I have ever heard from him on this show, saying "Honey, your hand" (I won't even touch on the way he looked at her here and during the time when Braniac did whatever he was doing to her). They had their share of happy, beautiful, touching moments this season that further cement the innate connection they share.

I think the happiness we saw from them in S5 was them enjoying the last of their teenage years and exploring their relationship and all the things that they had denied themselves for years. It was this catharsis and giddyness at finally having what they wanted. In S7, their happiness is calmer. Lana didn't have to come back to Smallville where she was wanted for crimes. She had 10 million dollars from Lex, an aunt in Metropolis, a whole world that she could explore, and she decided to come back to a farm in a small town. When she came back, they didn't even discuss what they were. After all these years, they didn't have to.

Then, there were the sad moments, the moments that make you want to shrink away from what you're seeing on the screen. I understand that Lionel and Lex did a number on Lana (though, I stand by my oppinion that a lot of Lana's vulnerability to Lex's manipulations was due to Clark pushing her away). Lana went through the ringer last season due to the Luthors. And she thinks that Lionel has means to hurt Clark. So, I understand that she would want to hurt them, to hurt the Luthors' goals. And I think that there's just no 100% moral way for her to go about that - when you want to hurt people as morally challenged as the Luthors, you have to break a few moral boundaries of your own. I also understand why she didn't tell Clark about all this. The Clark we know would be ...disgusted...by these less-than-moral actions from someone who he has imagined as kind. Similar to Clark fearing what Lana would think of him if he told her about his powers, Lana feared how Clark would look at her if he knew the things she had done. However, we do see reassurance from Clark's end that Lana isn't at that point of no return, and Lana's willingness to be better. That's the thing. They actually talk candidly about their relationship issues now....6 seasons later lol.

Though the way Lana intentionally hid things from Clark and lied bothered me, I thought of this as an opportunity for growth in their relationship. An opportunity for Clark to acknowledge what Lana had been through and understand that it is stifling to hold anyone to those moral standards. This growth seemed to be possible given Clark saying that he wanted to work to make sure that they could trust each other again.

Bizarro was proabaly the most hurtful part of this season. Yes, it must have been hurtful to Clark that Lana couldn't tell that it wasn't him. It must have been hurtful to hear that Lana preferred Bizarro since he was 'affectionate and understanding'. From Lana's perspective, there's this guy who looks exactly like Clark and gives you all the affection you crave - sometimes, you can want something so much that you can become blinded. It's not like Lana intentionally slept with someone that wasn't him, rather, I think she was a victim in this scenerio. There have been so many times in this series where Clark was on Red K or on some type of drug (more times than L*is has seen) where he wasn't being impersonated. How was Lana to know that this wasn't the strange way that Clark was during one of those other times? If my partner was suddenly a better partner, my first conclusion certainly would not be that he was being impersonated. The bottom line is that there wasn't sufficient reason for Lana to know that it wasn't Clark and, at the end of the day, she chose Clark by putting the blue stuff in Bizarro's hand. I do understand Clark's frustration - first Lex, now Bizarro. In his mind, he's put Bizarro in this trend he sees in Lana's choices which makes it hard for him to hear Lana's side on this. He's wary of another Lex, as we can see by his aversion to the hallucination of Lex and Lana being intimate. I understand Lana's frustration too in waking up every day and disappointing Clark. I do appreciate that Clark understands that he is not an easy guy to be with (a relationship with a superhero is never realistically easy) and Lana understands that she has made her fair share of mistakes. The most important fact is that after all that, they both stayed becuase they still believed in what they have and that there was something between them worth fighting for.

Overall, there was so much pain this season with Lana trying to catch herself before she went too far (and we see how well she's matured in S8), Clark feeling like he was the one being kept in the dark (for a change lol), Bizarro etc. There was also so much growth - the conversations the two had about their ideas of each other, the things that hurt them, Clark actually opening up and sharing things with Lana. So much air was cleared and it felt like they could move forward stronger together if given the chance.

When Lana was put in a catatonic state by Braniac, Clark was terrified of losing her. My heart broke at the sound of him pleading for Lana, and the way he looked at her. The scene where he kneels down by her chair and cries, this is not the image of a man who is anywhere near done with his relationship. So, it was insulting- but definitely on par with the rest of the writing dedicated to keeping Lana and Clark apart- when Lana breaks up with Clark over a video message and lo behold, that was when she was being forced to do so by Lex. Seriously, have these two ever seperated due to lack of love or attraction for one another? (No.)

Do I think a lot has happened? Yes, Clark and Lana's relationship has been tested a lot on this show, way more than any other relationship. Through all of that, their understanding of one another and their ability to forgive one another has really shone through. You can't rant about all the mistakes Lana has made in S6/7 without wanting to scream at Clark for keeping his secret for 6+ years from the person who was most deserving of hearing it. I understand that, and from the choice that Clark and Lana make to rekindle their relationship in S8, they understand that too.

Most Cl*is shippers will say that it was a dragged on relationship that was repeatedly on/off without acknowledging the multitude of circumstances that Clark and Lana have faced together. Come talk to me about Clark and Lana's relationship in Smallville being toxic and that other relationship being perfect when Clark and that other woman have faced even a third of what Lana and Clark have been through.

And you know what? After all this shit, I hear that Clark still chose Lana when faced with the choice of Lana and L*is in Season 8. And in the barn, Clark walked through all that pain to kiss her and watched her leave with tears in his eyes, saying "I love you" whilst he was on his knees in pain from the proximity to the kyptonite that was now in her veins.

I haven't read the comics. But, the fact that after all that they had been through- the lies and danger and fear,- it was Clark's one tangible weakness being injected into Lana's veins that did it (it wasn't even Clark that walked away in the end lol)? That should erase any doubts about what Clark would have chosen if he was given a choice between Lana and that other woman. By the time S9 and 10 came around, there was no choice to be made, just leftovers that paled in comparison to the epic love he shared with Lana Lang.

my love I have been rotating this ask in my mind and at last I have answers!! I do not have a clear enough memory of the chronology of Smallville to organize it that way so it’s gonna be organized by the chronology of the album.

“The Tortured Poets Department”—the vibes of this one are the last dying gasps of the Clark/Lana relationship. they’re so convinced that they belong together that they can’t see the fact that they’re bringing out the worst in each other. key lines: “who else decodes you? and who’s gonna hold you like me?” 

“My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys”—my first instinct was to lay this one at Lex’s door, but upon reflection I think that’s unfair to him. his sin is grasping, always, not ghosting. so “My Boy” is Lana’s pov before she knows Clark’s secret: he gives her attention and acts like she’s the best thing in his world and then when it starts to seem like a real relationship, he runs away. key lines: “cause I knew too much, there was danger in the heat of my touch, he saw forever so he smashed it up”

“Down Bad”—this one is—as you pointed out!!—Lois abandoned by the Blur. it’s less about the loss of the relationship, and more about the loss of the worldview. “told me I was the chosen one, showed me that this world is bigger than us, then sent me back where I came from” is Lois trying to go on without a purpose. and also, “Down Bad” is also a little bit Lex abandoned by Clark. he was shown a world of loving families and good people, and then had the door shut in his face again. but he can’t forget what he saw!!

“But Daddy I Love Him”—this song has a brief moment in the sun when Lex and Lana are starting to hang out a bunch and Chloe tries to warn Lex away from her friend, and it has the inverse effect of driving Lana straight into his arms. key lines: “stay away from her! the saboteurs protested too much” and “I’ll tell you something bout my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace”. (also: “I’m having his baby, no I’m not” is hysterically ironic)

“Fresh Out the Slammer”��to no one’s surprise, because I have brainrot and only remember one plot point, I’m gonna say this one is Lana trying to walk out of her wedding to go to Clark. key lines: “another summer taking cover, rolling thunder, he don’t understand me/splintered back in winter, silent dinners, bitter” and “now that I know better I will never lose my baby again” and “to the house where you still wait up and that porch light gleams”

“I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)”—if it’s anyone, it’s Clark singing about Lex! “he had a halo of the highest grade, he just hadn’t met me yet”

“I Can Do It With a Broken Heart”—this is a Lois song! just generally her ethos. “I was grinning like I’m winning!”

“The Alchemy”—this one reminds me of the homecoming episode because it’s about Clark returning to who he is (and also a little bit about football)

“The Black Dog”—“old habits die screaming” is very Clark and Lana, and Lifehouse’s “Everything” is the song that was intertwined in the tragic fabric of their dreaming.

“Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus”—brain rot again. it’s Lana and Lex. reminds me of the scene where she’s surveilling him and he’s looking piningly at their wedding portrait. “if you wanna break my cold, cold heart just say I loved you the way that you were. So High School—if it’s anybody I think it’s Chloe and Jimmy?? it’s giving ring pop proposal. 

I Hate It Here—it’s Lex!!!!!! Lex has had a TERRIBLE experience with life and so he DOES go to lunar valleys in his mind. (unfortunately for him the lunar valleys are real and he’s convinced that everyone there is trying to kill him)

I Look In People’s Windows—it’s Clark spying on Lois in his “I have to distance myself from humanity” era, but it’s also very much Lois looking at his empty desk missing him. “what if your eyes looked up and met mine one more time?”

(Unless you already answer this & im blind lol ) did he threw the bully, punch the side of a wall or locker and it cracked, accidentally shot a starbolt burning the bully, etc…

3: what type of crime does the duo face on most days? I can see thieves & gangs of bullies being the main bad guys.

4: how often does the duo fight crimes? Everyday, once or twice a week?

6: I know gross out humor ain’t their thing but does the duo use their butt as a weapon? like a flying hip attack, like kitana from mortal kombat or R. Mika from street fighter five. For humor: I can see either of the duo, most likely Jake, squatting over a goons face & striking two piece signs while making a silly face while Chris takes a picture XD

1) Based on this post by the ever excellent @/dar draws, Jake accidentally fired a starbolt at that bully, sending flying into a wall. Thankfully said bully at most some bruises and his shirt burnt off but not so thankfully Jake was distraught as he had no experience in doing that but moreso out of rightful fear of legit hurting someone with his powers kicking in so suddenly. The bully was the one suspended for invoking the situation in the first place while Jake had a lengthy conversation with his parents and sister afterwards over what they can do about this turn of events. Jake had to take at least two days off school before coming back with some light power dampers at his insistence so he can blend in better.

2) Mar’i in contrast to her brother develops her powers pretty much at birth due to her Tamaranean DNA being stronger than her human half. Upon a mere few minutes after first coming outside Kory’s womb, Mar’i was so joyful upon first ever seeing her parents, she began lightly floating in the air before Kory gently had her back in her arms. From there over the course of next two years, more of her powers began flowing in. For instance, Mar’i fired her first starbolt at two months, exhibited super strength at four months, and began to have some enhanced senses of smell and taste by the time she’s one year old. By the time Jake was born, Mar’i pretty much developed the near full power set

3) Chris and Jake, when not facing against legit supervillains, full blown alien invasions or psychopathic rouges including Zsasz, often find themselves taking down more petty criminals and gangsters within both Bludhaven and the slums of Metropolis. They also contend with corrupt business owners, predatory loan sharks, and even guiding drivers to safely traverse insufficient and dangerous roads until said roads are cleared for much needed renovations. Most interestingly, a lot of their patrols and capers take place within the neighborhoods and boroughs of both cities which have notable alien and other dimensional sentient populations, for instance ‘Little Tamaran’ back at Bludhaven.

4) Usually about four days out of the week during school quarters and just about six out of seven days of the week during summer vacation, spring break and winter vacation. On the days when they don’t patrol, it’s spent either catching on catching to whatever homework they would’ve missed before or likely spending time with their respective families.

6) Okay now that seems a lot more plausible for the two of them to such poses for photos during particularly easier nights on patrols or even more commonly after taking down a rampaging big monster. You can expect that happening to Cinderblock quite a often after he’s taken down. The fact he sees that very often when looking up his files only furthers his drive to challenge the Duo

okay so before i jump into whatever happened to the man of tomorrow i decided that i'd list my superman reads so far! this is a rapid-fire list so i'm not going incredibly in depth here, i'm not really someone that writes reviews. if you care to follow, my goodreads is here!

with that being said, here's my rating system!

1 star = terrible, and more than likely didn't finish. i don't give one stars very often though so hopefully we won't be seeing them here but it's worth mentioning

2 stars = okay story, just not for me!

3 stars = solid story but a little forgettable

4 stars = loved it :)

5 stars = adored it! would read it again!

now since i'm doing these in order let's start with

all-star superman: a solid 4 stars! i love the sci-fi stuff and i love stories about clark's mortality

superman american-alien: might seem surprising but i genuinely adored reading this book so it gets a 5 star rating. it was a fun read, what can i say?

superman 2023: okay im a bit iffy about rating an ongoing series but all the issues have been 4 stars for me through and through. i love jamal campbell's art and supes is just <3 i would recommend this for newbies actually since it's pretty easy to follow even if you don't know much about superman.

superman: secret identity: sorry but i just thought this book was boring and pointless. 2 stars. why was this on a list for newbies to read i'll never know.

superman action comics #775 aka what's so funny about truth, justice, and the american way?: this is the only issue of the action comics i've read because i've heard good things about it (also because one of these days i'm gonna watch the adaptions of these comic books) and i can see why! a solid 4 stars for me. this is why you love superman, what more can i say? i think it needs a bit more breathing room but it's still a pretty good one.

superman for all seasons: i bumped this up to a 5 stars since im a little stingy with them lol but this is one of the books i'd read again. it's an easy read and i love tim sale's art, and i just wanna hug clark that's all

adventures of superman: jon kent: annnd we're back to 2 stars. i hate injustice but at least jon is a nice character. just please any other book besides this. sigh

superman smashes the klan: an easy 5 stars! i literally loved this book so much i bingeread it in a day! i recommend this to anyone and everyone, even if you don't care for superman pick this book up please!

supergirl special #1: okay, i know this is a superman list i don't care supergirl is getting thrown in here too. i'm gonna be honest i don't have much to say about this book so i guess it might be surprising that it's a 4 stars for me, maybe it's getting carried by the pretty art. i dunno, it's nice, that's all. i guess a 3 star rating would be more accurate lol

superman: the harvests of youth: this is a sweet book but it's about smallville so i don't have much attachment. 3 stars. it's got heart and i like martha with pink hair :)

superman: birthright: i think this book is a little dull but it mostly shines with clark and lex's relationship. lex growing up with clark adds an extra layer to their relationship that i like. 3 stars because i honestly don't remember much outside of that

supergirl: woman of tomorrow: this is a fun sci-fi adventure and the art style is honestly breathtaking. if someone wanted to know who kara is as a person this is the book i'd show them! 5 stars!

fanfic origin story

What was your first fandom (reading and/or writing)? Reading: X-Files was my first fandom. I was actually a Mulder/Scully shipper in season 1 - Paula Graves “12 Degrees of Separation” that I found on a USENET server, before getting into Mulder/Krycek on a mailing list.

Writing: I posted Smallville Clark/Lex as my first posted stories… but I wrote a ton of unposted, cringy self-insert Mercedes Lackey fanfic when I was 12 and 13. I was a horse-girl, so obviously I had to write about an OC with lavender eyes and their own talking horse.  I was on a Mercedes Lackey fan page for a while, but obvious she was very anti-fanfic so I thought I was a weirdo for a very long time, breaking the law and writing my own stories of Valdemar

What was the first story you ever wrote?

Finished and posted? “Lessons in Compassion” set after the pilot of Smallville.

Ever? When I was 10 I started writing a novel called “Kentucky Bound” where a girl goes to a horse auction and picks out a yearling that ends up winning the Kentucky Derby. I wrote out OC horses, characters, margins of victory in my outline and probably hand wrote about 25 pages before I got blocked, lol.

What's a piece of advice you would give your younger fic writing self?

You can finish a story. It takes focus and discipline but it’s possible.

What's an early fandom interaction that stuck with you (be it a nice comment, a friend you made, a fic that got a lot of feedback)?

@ninswhimsy : It’s all her fault, lol. We bonded over the show during season 1 hiatus and had a lot of fun chatting and sending each other snippets. I’m enormously thankful our friendship survived past the show.

The other early fandom joy was writing and publishing “Last Years Wishes” - It still gets a lot of love and hits, and I’m very touched by that.

Post a sentence or two from an older fic and a sentence or two from a newer one (if you want)

I’m still trying to get back into a writing frame of mind - real life is extremely busy and stressful. I’ve played with the idea of being “retired” for a lot of reasons, but right now that feels like giving up, and I don’t really want to do that.

Newer: - from the next story in my “Trying” universe:

Michael didn’t bother with browsing the old People magazine in the waiting room, his nerves were wound far too tight to engage with the props provided by the clinic to fight against the boredom of waiting that came hand-in-hand with every medical appointment. Alex, having had more than his fair share of doctor visits, had warned him that “appointments” were closer to “approximations”, and that they should expect to wait long past their time. Case in point, Alex was idly scrolling through his phone completely accustomed to the routine. Michael did his best not to fidget in place, while keeping his eyes trained on the closed door of the doctor’s office in anticipation of their name being called. An hour had already gone by, along with the hour drive to the clinic from Roswell; it was shaping up to be an expensive afternoon of lost work time for Michael. Only the importance of why they were there had kept him from walking out in annoyance.

It was time for their state-mandated physicals, required by law, for their fostering license.

Their caseworker, Ms. Patel, or Aimee as she had allowed them once it had become clear how serious they were in becoming foster parents, had maintained that the medical report was merely a formality for men of their age. It was designed to weed out applicants with particular health issues that would impede their ability to keep up with an active child. Despite Alex’s prompting for specifics, she did not provide any concrete examples of what was considered disqualifying on a health exam. Probably out of a worry that her speculation could be considered discriminatory.

The exam was promised to be thorough but not invasive, a general physical of vital signs without any accompanying blood work. That was meant to be comforting to them, but Michael, had barely slept during the last week out of worry.

Liz and Kyle had both reassured him that a basic physical would not reveal him to be an alien to anyone, his biological differences were mainly clear in his blood work or through an ultrasound of his organs. Not even the fact he had managed to pass through the foster system as a child without detection was enough to calm his anxieties, mainly because he had suspicions about Jim Valenti’s intervention. It was a risk to have a doctor study him, and for the first time since Michael realized he would be the subject of a federal background check, he worried over if the prospect of being a parent was worth it.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I wish Kyle was here,” Michael murmured to Alex with a ghost of humor. They had both listed Kyle as a character reference in their application, not realizing at the time it would disqualify him from being the physician who performed the medical evaluation on Michael.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I wish Isobel was here,” Alex whispered back, before reaching to hold Michael’s hand.

Michael rolled his eyes at Alex, having long figured out that his sister and his husband enjoyed playing up their animosity for each other, out of some childish tug of war over who loved Michael the most. They seemed to get a particular enjoyment out of sniping at each other, a contest over who managed the best quip or blistering observation, Alex and Maria often teaming up against Isobel and Liz at gatherings, while Michael, Max, and Kyle quietly placed bets on who won.

“I can do the same things she can,” he reminded Alex, tapping his forehead in emphasis. If a doctor did happen to do a double-take on their readings of Michael, he was prepared to slip inside their mind to block or erase that knowledge. As badly as he wanted a child, revealing himself as an alien was not part of the plan.

“I know you can, but I also know you don’t like to.” ***

OLDER: And from these hands (let you go free) - my ringmaker fic:

“That was why you changed that summer,” Alex said, mostly to himself with a quiet devastation. His gaze was faraway, sitting only a few feet from Michael and yet fifteen years away from him all at the same time. “I thought it was me. My dad attacked you because of me, and suddenly you weren’t going to college anymore. I did that to you, I thought I had ruined your life-”

“Never.” He squeezed Alex’s hand hard, horrified at the very thought. “You were the one good thing I had back then. You made me believe there was a place for me here. I probably leaned too much on that, too much on you, when we were teenagers. And that wasn’t fair to you.”

“I wish I had known what you were going through.”

“I couldn’t tell you.”  

“Couldn’t or wouldn’t?” Alex asked him wryly, still laser sharp in his observations. “We didn’t exactly talk much back then.”

Michael acknowledged the point with a wince. In so many ways he was still the kid with the trash bag suitcases, he had moved from one place to another, never able to claim anything as his own, but once he was an adult and finally free to make his own home, he held onto everything. People, when they let him, and the memories, when they didn’t. Most importantly, he kept the truth about what was behind his feelings, guarded jealously behind his lips. Those truths, the pain he had experienced, the hardships of never feeling like he had a home; those were his. There was a question that had haunted him, what if he gave them up, what if he shared them, and it was for nothing? What if no one cared? That was a worse prospect to him than moving from house to house with a black garbage bag as his luggage.

Had a dumb idea for a Justice League swap au.

Clark is Batman, Bruce is Flash, J’onn is Superman, Barry is Green Lantern, Hal is Martian Manhunter, Diana is Aquaman (Aquawoman) and Arthur is Wonder Woman (Wonder Man).

Here me out. I know there’s some weird swaps in there, but I had thoughts lol.

Clark is Batman because he landed in Gotham rather than Smallville where he was taken in by the Waynes. Clark and Bruce were raised as brothers. Then Thomas and Martha are murdered, and Clark knows he could have saved them, but he was a child and didn’t react in time. Bruce blamed him, and Clark promised to never let anything like that happen again, resulting in him training himself to become the true terror of the night.

Initially I was going to have Bruce become GL, then I had the thought of how terrifying Bruce would be as a speedster. Now, he doesn’t have the physical training he had as Batman, but he’s still really smart. Basically, he was in Central City doing work for Wayne Enterprises when he was in a lab and got struck by lightning, and after being in a coma for a bit became a speedster, seizing the opportunity to save others as he couldn’t save his parents.

J’onn came to Earth, and saw how humans were destroying themselves in the same ways the Martians had. He feels the need to try and save humanity as he couldn’t save his home.

Thawne still went back in time to kill Barry’s mother, but in this universe, he was chosen to become a Green Lantern due to his determination to prove his father innocent and make sure no one gets falsely acused of crimes they didn’t commit.

Okay Hal’s swap is a weird one, I know the Martian police were called Manhunters, but I have reasons. Basically, Hal did become a Green Lantern, briefly. You see after the stuff with Sinistro, he quits, angered by what he saw. The thing is, Hal now knew the universe was a big place, and there’s a lot of bad aliens, so become a bounty hunter. He goes back to Earth every now and again, just to check up on things.

Now, in the au, Atlantis and Themyscira have been at odds with each other for a long time. In a final effort to stop the hostilities, the first born children of both leaders were swapped, with Arthur being raised by the Amazons and Diana being raised by the Atlanteans. Neither of them have a good time, and both of them leave as soon as they get a chance.

Will I do anything with this? Probably not, but I thought I’d share it anyway.

Meanwhile on the spoiler free Miraculous Ladybug side of life London is better than Paris on one hand, they fumbled the idea in the Paris one which could have carried a half if not whole season in capable hands, and London felt too slow at times, a two parter or three parter- one for each of the akuma's not in there macguffins- would have tightened things up.

Fan theories will be answered so be magnanimous, yeah right this is a cartoon and people will go out of their way to be butt hurt.

Going to have to take today off sewing and shouldn't have used the jewelry pliers as much as I did yesterday.

If we go out for errands today I want to go to the book store and see if the have the new Cure photo book. I'm still wanting to cut down on the analog books, can't do that until the archive is back fook turds, so unless you can help scan some the supply chain to the thrift store or directly to whomever wants to come and get them dries up too.

Cure books don't count and aside from the new photo book the only one I don't have a hard copy of right now is Lol's. Swap you the extra Ten Imaginary Years for it. I have it on Kindle, I just don't have a hard copy. Can throw in a pdf of Wishful Thinking or whatever the other HTF one is.

Just added a bunch of Siouxsie books to the wish list too. Remind me to read Spellbound or whatever it is, I'm not that big in to Siouxsie but it's probably about all we're going to get for the story of The Glove.

Not that the archive being down has left me with time on my hands or anything. Outside of my own regular scrolling I was also looking up things for other people, great way to discover something new, and doing some uploading to keep a few things out of lost media territory. I was already working on making myself watch something I had (catching up on Smallville and now Ladybug) instead of mindless Yew Chube scrolling.

Just be glad we think different because if I had the means I'd rewrite this song (be forewarned it will stick in your head in away that will make you want to sing it) for Smallville to go "a guy so hot you'll want to stick your d*ck in, we're gonna show you Clark's t*ts". Five internet points if someone dresses like Lex Luthor and performs it, ten if they throw in evil grinning Lionel for the "oh I'd love to!" parts, toss in a chorus of Lana, Chloe, and Lois tearing the shirt off Clark you're winning the talent show at the convention.

After all, guys who lost their shirts is a category of book covers.

Thoughts: Reading all of Chris’s comics is an interesting experience, boys timeline makes no sense. Hard to say my thoughts on either of these issues on their own merits-they’re both clearly one issue in an arc. I’ll probably go back and read the rest of the arc for issue 662 because it was an interesting start-i actually have to forecast siroccos so that was kinda a fun name for a hero for me lol. The third Kryptonian arc I’ll try and finish this month lol.

The American Daughters by Maurice Carlos Ruffin

Thoughts: Hey have you ever written a good story and then decided to fucking ruin it completely with an epilogue? Well so did this author! Why why why why did this book go from being a historical drama to a fucking sci-fi in the epilogue. Explain it to me. Really truly. Because it was some of the stupidest shit I’ve ever read. God it made me mad. I’m making all my book people read it. I need to know what their authentic reactions are to that fucking acid trip of an epilogue. OTHER THAN THAT I liked this. The author didn’t Go There enough for my personal preference but that’s not the story he was setting out to write I suppose. A sapphic story of an enslaved woman becoming a spy and thwarting the man who enslaves her? Absolutely a story I’m down for. Unfortunately the pacing was very bad. In summation-I did not like this and I’m mad as hell about it.

Superboy the Boy of Steel by Geoff Johns

Thoughts: I loved the art of this so much. The first two pages technically being a Blackest Night tie in and the rest of the collected not addressing the event at all was absolutely hilarious to me. This was a fun story, it felt like the set up it was and it’s pacing worked well for what it had. I’ll get to Smallville Attacks soon I swear. It’s sitting next to me while I type this.

Thoughts: This is listed as a battle for metropolis tie in issue but there’s only a few panels that do that and the character who’s having the tie in is completely foreign to me. A story about kids doing drugs on the streets isn’t really my cup of tea but it was fine.

Thoughts: damn they fucking destroyed metropolis in this one. The amount of times they blow up the globe from the daily planet to symbol tremendous loss in Superman’s life is kind of ridiculous at this point. I liked seeing the superfam all working together in this!

I read 7 novels, one novella, one poetry collection, one ‘collection of essays’, 4 graphic novels, two comic collecteds, 10 volumes of manga and 33 single issue comics. According to Goodreads I’m now ahead of my goal! According to StoryGraph (the one where I’m not counting comics, collecteds, or manga) I remain behind. A tragedy.

Hi! Smallville Anon again, I just finished season 2 (life has been difficult lol) and I just loved it so much. Season 1 was really great, totally blew my expectations away of what superhero shows could be, but season two? Season two had everything that made season one a standout and developed it further. So many of the episodes are really great stand-alone episodes, and I feel like I could watch them anytime, something that I love about 90s and 2000’s shows that don’t happen now. As for my other random thoughts: MY HEART WAS SO BROKEN AT THE END OF SEASON TWO WHEN CLARK PUT ON THE RED KRYPTONITE AND LEFT LANA. I just keep thinking that if Smallville came out today, that would have been the cliffhanger ending that ends up being a series finale since all shows pretty much get cancelled now haha. And it would have been terrible! I’m just really pumped for season 3 now and I thank you for talking me into watching season 3! As for Clark and Lex, you had very valid points about them not really being a friendship. I guess I meant more that I like their two characters interacting rather than there being enough writing to solidify them as a friendship. Or maybe I just like their platonic chemistry, I’m a little unsure, but it could be both. I do feel for Chloe when it comes to liking Clark, and I don’t feel like their chemistry is bad, but it just felt like it should always be platonic to me and it still does. Pete being the one to know Clark’s secret first was a nice touch despite me wanting Lana to know first for shipping reasons LOL. I read spoilers about why Pete leaves and it’s such a bullshit reason to me that I’m not going to be happy when I see that episode in season 3. You just know that the, most likely, white writing room didn’t care to develop his character or give his character time so I feel for the actor. It seemed like he wanted to stay and I think his storylines could have been something better. Lastly I love Jonathan and Martha together! The casting director struck gold with this cast, and I think a big reason why I like this show is down to the family dynamic with them and Clark. They are totally believable and exude warmth as characters and as family. Sorry this is a long follow up, but I hope you enjoy some of my thoughts!

Thanks for sharing! I pretty much agree overall. I'm glad you stuck it out for season 3! Season 2 is great fun, and I'm glad you enjoyed this (imo), more refreshing take on a superhero show, that 's more invested in the interpersonal dynamics than the actual superhero-ing, and holding the audience hostage to a dogged plot about these Big Supervillain Plans or whatever (*cough The Flash, Supergirl, the entire Arrowverse*cough*).

I too love the Kents as a family, because while I find Jonathan profoundly unhelpful and frustrating, he's still incredibly believable as That Dad, and ultimately you know Clark's parents just want the best for him. I think it's also refreshing that, with most supernatural/superhero/teen shows, parents are more often than not, obstacles to what the teens need to be doing, so they end up being absentee most of the time, whereas the Kents are present and help Clark figure out these weird things happening to him and his friends in this town. They don't always agree, but it's cool to see him not having to hide from his parents, but rather hiding from everyone else, and being at home with his parents. It's a dynamic I haven't seen anywhere else.

Yeah, Pete leaving is a drag. Even though his presence wasn't as big as it could've been, it is constant, so you do feel his absence, and as a result, he and Chloe aren't as close, because the dynamic definitely doesn't work without Pete to round out the group.

Yeah, I get what you mean about Clark and Lex. Narratively they're supposed to be close, but I just don't think that makes it onto the screen, especially when the dialogue has them constantly questioning each other and distrusting each other. Hahahaha season 2 was ROUGH man. Clark and Lana FINALLY getting together, and then Clark leaving? Wait for the beginning of season 3 lol. It makes me cringe from second hand embarrassment, because Clark on red kryptonite is SO terrible lol.

Batman & Superman in World's Finest - The Silver Age Vol. 1

(Collects Superman #76 and WF #71-94)

I read this a while ago on comixology but want to post some of it here still. I'm also gonna try to post more as I read on, because I'm making my way through my own superbat reading guide.

This volume is very much a mix of some down-to-earth gangster stories and more silver-agey intergalactic ones. Lots of superbat interactions. I really enjoyed it. Some of my favourite issues include Superman #76 (of course lol), World's Finest #80 and #75. 

(I'll also say that this first volume definitely has way more Superman/Batman friendship interactions than the next one, which I'm reading now. They're still there, but much more sparse.)

Of course, everything starts off with their iconic 'there was only one bed' meeting in Superman #76. They find out each other's secret identity right away.

The identity porn in the early comics is all Clark and Bruce coming up with the dumbest ways to stop other people (mainly Lois) from finding out who they are. Lots of costume switching, it's a good thing they look so much alike.

Also, Clark can't help touching the bat-boobie:

I really loved WF #80! Clark and Bruce end up working at the Gotham Gazette with Lois as their editor. Bruce struggles quite a bit as a reporter which was funny, but still manages to get good stories. 

Bruce is so clueless.

And they worry about their son of course:

Finally my most favorite, WF #75, in which Superman and Robin team up while an out of commission Bruce can only watch from home but still helps them with the case. It is the source of that famous ‘superman hugging batman and robin panel’, and the interactions between Clark and Dick are very cute. Meanwhile, Bruce is stuck at home struggling with the fact that he’s not there to keep Dick safe, but sees that Clark is doing a good job at it instead! This issue really solidifies the ‘world’s finest family’ and ‘Dick’s two dad’s’ type of relationship in the books. 

Dick is of course overjoyed he gets to work with Superman. Clark even lands him a job at the Daily Planet as copy boy.

Just look at this little family:

There are a couple other really great stories, such as the one where a young Bruce goes to smallville and is smitten with superboy, and finds out that he is Clark Kent (#84). Or #82 where Superman, Batman, and Robin travel back in time and dress up as the three musketeers, in their costumes. And that time in #89, when they can't stop complementing each other and recommending each other for chairman of the club. Although the complementing is not an isolated event :)

Anyway yeah read this. homework for superbat shippers.
