It seems like only a few people in the audio drama space know about this resource, Listen Notes, which will give you an indication of a show's popularity in comparison to other shows.
Tumblr media
As you can see, it gives each podcast a 'score' and uses that score to determine the show's popularity ranking compared to other shows. This data is only displayed for shows in the top 10%, however; others will simply not have this section on their Listen Notes page.
Every show with an RSS feed has an auto-generated Listen Notes page, so there should be no need to manually submit your show to them. This also means that it's a pretty decent catalog for exploring shows.
To determine Listen Scores, Listen Notes doesn't just use download numbers, but also a number of other factors to determine a show's ranking. It can be helpful to work out how your show is doing compared to other shows, and provide a sense of scale for you as a point of reference for audience size, as this is not something all shows openly discuss and that data isn't openly available.
I would recommend checking a service like this as opposed to simply comparing download numbers to other shows, as download numbers alone do not account for variability in how many episodes a show has released, nor do they account for listener retention or ANY metrics for listener engagement.
Listen Notes is not a perfect tool. The data it pulls about engagment is limited to information tied directly to a show's RSS feed, as far as I can tell. This means they're looking at comments and reviews on sites like their own, directly on listening platforms, and on sites like Spotify. This might overlook a show whose fandom is not inclined to post there but has a very active community somewhere like here, on tumblr. Other drawbacks include seeming to give automatic preference to shows which release regularly and which have episode runs over 10 episodes, due to how the figures seem to be determined.
I hope this is a helpful tool that any of you creating your own work in audio drama might find useful.

Fandom Bingo: Valentine Trope Flash
The Fandom Bingo blog has reached 200 followers! And since Valentine's Day happens to be coming up, we're celebrating with a Valentine Trope Flash.
Like last time, this will be a quick flash event, with a 3x3 bingo format and a focus on love/relationship prompts.
This event is multifandom, so you can write for any fandom you want.
**Signups are open for one week, so this form will close on February 17th, 2025.**
General Rules:
You can interpret the prompts any way you want. If you think it fits, then it fits. All prompts can just be used as inspiration or a general fit, no need to actually include them word for word in the fanwork, and tenses and pronouns can be swapped accordingly.
You can write for any fandom you want, including crossovers and original works.
You can combine multiple prompts in one fanwork.
Each submitted fanwork should be new and complete, but it can be a standalone, part of a series, or one chapter of a multi-chaptered fic.
This event is primarily geared towards fanfic, but any medium is fine if you feel you can do it.
For fanfic, the minimum is 100 words with no maximum.
You can use fanworks submitted for this event for other events as well, so long as it’s okay with the other side too.
While signups are only open for a week, there is no time limit for completing a card.
There will be a total of 9 prompts on each card, and everyone can sign up for a maximum of FOUR cards (only one signup necessary).
All content and ratings are allowed but please tag everything appropriately, especially if there’s trigger-warning content.
Please be respectful of each other. If you see content tags you don’t like, just scroll past and move on.
All works must be your own creation. No plagiarism. No AI-generated works.
To Finish a Card:
There's no real requirements for this. Just cross off as many prompts as you can.
There is no completion form for this event, but if you make a masterpost after you finish and ping @fandombingo, I'll reblog that.
When Posting:
You can post your fanworks to this AO3 collection here.
If you make a Tumblr post for your fanwork, remember to ping @fandombingo and tag #ValentineTropeFlash so I can reblog it.
On your post, please clearly indicate the Fandom, Prompt(s), Rating, and Tag(s)/Content Warning(s).
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to send in an ask!

Dear Hazbin Hotel Fandom (with special note for reader insert fic writers at bottom)
Been thinking about Hazbin and like, economy, and infrastructure, and fucking culture in hell. And I like to imagine that earth is like, modern age if not a bit further into the future, and Hell is just so far behind
And I see most writers attribute this to old powers that be more or less forcing people to adhere to their affections, but I feel like it's so much more complex than that.
Like if there's any kind of infrastructure in place, like say, oh IDK utilities, that infrastructure in modern times relies very heavily on established modern infrastructure built before it, and a certain degree of cultural niceties to leave it alone, as well as all the means in terms of sourcing labor, resources, and cold hard cash for its construction and continued upkeep.
Which is near impossible in a place like hell. A place where at least once a year, the ritual killing of the masses leads to huge turf wars set to destroy said infrastructure. In such a every man for himself society, who's making sure these roads aren't full of potholes and the lights stay on?
Which leads to a very easy answer, Overlords. This is why Overlords own millions of souls. It's the expected currency for stability. Overlords oversee a certain degree of infrastructure, normalization of life. Depending on your deal, Overlords might guarantee a base degree of normalcy in exchange for souls. Like you might get better rental opportunities in areas where the buildings aren't likely to be torn down regularly. You get running water and electricity, books and other entertainment, access to better food, security during large scale danger events (including the exterminations) ect. And refusing to sell your soul could severely limit opportunities. Imagine if everyone is born into poverty, and you are only allowed the chance to access middle class jobs, houses, ect if you cut off a finger. Everyone does it, you aren't using it anyways, and your life gets significantly easier if you do....
But yeah I think people who write for the fandom are seriously understating the actual affects the lack of a central government probably has on the different areas of the city, and what it actually means to be an Overlord, and why things work the way they do.
Like I am 1000% sure there's no mail in hell. Like mailmen and carriers and an organization system. Unless an Overlord was particularly invested in it... No I think for a very long time long distance communication took place through hired help. People specifically paid for or in one's employ to carry personal missives on an immediate basis as needed. Delivery men. This is why Vox's electronics are such a hit. It provides a degree of luxury unknown to the masses before this; or known of and since lost and have nostalgia for.
I also firmly believe that this is still how Overlords and influentials communicate. Vox's infrastructure is convenient, but it would require seceeding a degree of independence powerful people can't afford to give up. You can order one of your souls to take a message and others to protect them, but to use a phone is to put your communication network in the hands of someone else, and a potential enemy at that.
Lack of infrastructure aside, I also don't want to understate the effects of only a certain percentage of the populace being present has. 100% of the people dropping into hell can know what a blender is, but if not a single souls who drops down knows how one works, then hell just straight up doesn't have blenders. Which is another factor into a lot of the lingering old timey feel of Hell. Technology has to be invented on earth, then become popularized enough that the knowledge of its creation beats out the numbers dropping into hell and it can be made. Not to mention someone has to be interested enough to let it be made in the first place. This is why some Overlords center around such singular niches. They were passionate enough to teach themselves in life the knowledge needed to build that particular luxury from scratch. Even if it had been decades since development in earth, the knowledge just doesn't migrate well.
I also imagine this having a huge impact on the entertainment industry. Lots of writers go on about old songs but not one has the guts to claim an artists is in hell and still making their art in hell
Can you imagine the cutthroat industry developed around having to claw your way up through hundreds of years of new music and nostalgia when your own fan base is still mostly on earth and the other artists have had centuries or decades to establish themselves?
Which brings me to my last and most important point..... Shoes. Well, shoes and clothing, and mass production.
It just ain't fucking happening in Hell.
One, in sure the Pride ring is getting some of their commerce from other rings. I'm talking consumables. Textiles and food. This is also a city spanning millions of people, and what hydroponics isn't used to grow pot is probably being sponsored by Overlords to grow produce for their souls. Which means some production but not nearly enough to feed the city. Which means food probably looks like a large majority of people eating hell based produce from outside the ring, with dedicated smuggling rings (like what we see with IMP, travelers who bring earth commerce home, I'm guessing Lust ring Incu/Sucubi looking for side gigs) bringing back seeds, cuttings, and cultural touchstones like movies, books, and music to be mass copied and distributed. Those living in certain areas or with the right amount of cash can pay for produce grown from that smuggled earth produce.
Meat is predominantly hell born in nature, probably produced from Wrath, and Sloth's oceans, with an uncomfortably large supplemental of cannibalistic meat being corpses harvested by street folk and sold to butchers for cheap, cooked and sold Sweeney Todd style. I do think Cannibalism is far more widespread and normalized than most are comfortable thinking, for practical reasons. There are just so many dedicated cannibals in the colony alone...look, there is neither space for cows nor a means to get them down there.
In any case, clothing.
This is a huge pet peeve for me in fics because I don't think anyone really thinks this one through, the sheer volume of the fashion industry in its infrastructure and how much of that Hell is lacking
Not to even mention that everyone is hell is shaped weird. Head to toe. Weird bodies all the time. Everywhere.
I just don't think mass produced clothing is a thing. Or at least nearly a refined as earth. Off the rack shit is probably very plain, and very vaguely shaped. Lots of missing sleeves, wide arm holes, drawstrings and buttons. The bare minimum. The cloth equivalent of fig leaves. Pride based clothing outlets, if there is any mass production, probably base their shapes a lot of Imps and Hellhounds and mostly humanoid with four limb, just to have a consistent customer base and hope they get lucky with hellborn. You probably have to pay to have a pattern made for your body and then have basic shit seen up from there or learn to do it yourself. Lots of people earning side cash sewing garbage clothes for cheap. Dudes with a bunch of ink and a screen printing custom graphic tees from their apartment making bank.
And don't even get me started on shoes. Most people have hooves or paws, and if they don't have that, there's a sizable chance they won't even have feet. There just isn't mass produced shoes. There physically can't be. There is no consistency in size. It is literally not possible.
All to say, sewing is probably a pretty valuable skill to have. Tailors and cobblers are probably both valued jobs and incredibly necessary. It's also probably pretty damn expensive. Which is actually why we don't see a lot of shoes, and why some folks are strange about clothes. It's just not practical anymore. And it's wildly expensive. Why go through the bother of getting a tailor or cobbler to make time and then get charged through the nose for something that might get destroyed or stolen soon anyways?
Which brings me to my special comment
Dear Reader insert writers. Specifically the Reader/Alastor crew, but this is pretty blanket
Unless your OC, or the clothing, is a very specific shape, Angel is not loaning your OC nothing in terms of textiles. Think real hard about whether your OC's feet will fit into one of his custom made boots... Really think about it. The love is there, but it's Hell. Let your OC struggle with everything. They can't get housing because everywhere outside an Overlord's domain is full and they can't rent without trading their soul to an overlord. They have trouble finding non human meat or palatable produce or even coffee. Their clothes are coming apart at the seams and laundry mats don't exist. Its hell, it's hard, and it's not made for them. If Angel ends them anything, it's gonna fit like a nightmare or be secondhand from another hooker and look like it. And it's going to be expensive AF
This is especially for you Alastor shippers. Textiles work a lot closer to how it functioned in his time than ours. In fact it probably functions closer to Rosie's time than his. And something I need you to remember is courting etiquette. Because I often see this overlooked. The best example I have for this is the song "baby it's cold outside", which viewed through the modern lense sounds like a creepy preamble to that poor woman being accosted, but in the lense of the time period it was written, is seen a feminine strong song, a woman using the tools available of her time to openly flirt and accept an offer to stay overnight. And while most people remember that Al comes from a time where gifting is used to show affection, I don't think they remember why that is. Like yes, there can be, and probably should be, a certain degree of possessiveness involved, given where we are and who we are talking about. But we must remember that this was a time period before women could divorce their husbands in the US. These gifts had social meaning. Women couldn't own property, were discouraged from jobs after settling down, and just didn't have the means to care for themselves. Expensive clothing and jewels were a statement. It told the community that the husband could, and did, provide for his wife financially. It gave the woman tangible items that, if properly cared for, would provide her with capital enough that should her husband die before her, he could be her only husband, that she wouldn't be forced to remarry. It a statement of of societal expectation, but also of how much he cared for her well being. And this is an aspect I see missing from Alastor's commentary. Yes there is a magical aspect of protection often employed, but he doesn't lavish his beau with Fur coats and hand crafted hats with obnoxiously bejeweled pins and easily displayed but hard to care for items that are as much a declaration of love in value as they are in attention. The closest I've ever seen is the fics by corruptedteacups, in which the flapper set gifted to the MC is described just as much in its beauty as the sheer quality of the fabric and beading involved. It feels substantial and expensive.
Just a small fandom peeve of mine, but some desperately needed context and depth I hope people think on.

i spent most of yesterday designing my oc's living quarters in chb (due to reasons she doesnt belong to a cabin bc she doesnt get claimed and instead resides with chiron and is his intern (and niece))
i have never read any of the books nor watched a nanosecond of its adapted media; im purely going off of 3am wikipedia treks and my most recent greek mythology hyperfixation to seamlessly integrate my middle eastern muslim hijabi daughter of hades into the story.
and iM THRIVING
I can't fathom the fact that some people watch a movie, show or read a book they like and they just go: "I liked it :)" and that's it....girl how?? Whenever I like a movie, tv show, book or musical I need to inhale that piece of media like it's air, I need to self insert myself in it and create an elaborate plot line for my character in it, then I listen to music that reminds me of the piece of media and think of it 24/7, while obsessively rewatching scenes and analyzing every bit of it till I notice details nobody has seen, finally, I try to convince people to watch it with me so that I can experience it for the first time through them. Then my obsession dies and I feel empty until the next one comes along..... and you're telling me people can enjoy something and just...go to sleep and not think of it again????

help me i've gotten so deep into the steddie rabbit hole i haven't gotten this stuck on something since destiel
this really isn't good for my health
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THESE ARE THE FICS THAT I SUBSCRIBED TO / LIKED READING (I'VE BASICALLY READ 1/5 WORTH OF STEDDIE FICS COMPARED TO DESTIEL FICS - I GOT INTO DESTIEL 4 YRS AGO, I ONLY STARTED READING STEDDIE FICS SOME TIME LAST MONTH WTF)
tbf, i have taken breaks from destiel to read other fandoms/fics so, ig the timing works out? if you think about it?
#steddie#destiel#fics#ao3#also if anyone comes across this post i can rec you some of my absolute favs#these stats for my fics don't even include the ones i finished but didn't enjoy all that much#or the ones i abandoned halfway through even though it was like 100k words#i really dont care if i've spent hours reading it#i literally just leave if i get slightly annoyed by the writing#i'm not kidding#it's a problem#but also not really?#i'm just complaining for the sake of it#also i never got into stranger things fics for some reason even though i watched all of the show#idk why#i think it's bc i watched the show w/ my dad? so i felt weird to read fics about it?#like i considered it a family show for some reason#and for some reason reading fics for that was off limits??#idk#i also i'm getting scared that i won't ever be interested in my other fandoms again bc of how much i am invested in steddie stuff#this was exactly like destiel though#i just gotta get it out of my system#i have no idea why i'm so scared of losing interest in my other fandoms#also if anyone is wondering where these stats are coming from i made a spreadsheet of all the works i like#it's basically a replica of my subscriptions list because when i started ao3 i acted like the subscribe button functioned like bookmarks an#now i cant go back#so instead of transferring everything i just took the time to make a spreadsheet and basically code the functions myself#which arguably took more time to do than if i transferred everything#i would share the list but i'm sort of embarrassed of the stuff that's on there#if anyone is curious i have 676 fics stored on it

(animal abuse tw!!!)
hyperfix hell is something else but especially insane for characters like red and duck who are just suddenly really terrible out of nowhere. like its been a while since ive seen electricity (cuz its one of the episodes that gets me feeling too much) but i somehow gaslit myself into believing i made up the part of them drowning their cat. i thought i was filling in blanks with my memory but NO duck outright BRAGS about explicitly drowning their “boring” pet.
I knew they killed their cat 100% but i guess im so deep into my own head and been in the fandom for so long i thought i made a chunk of it up somehow 😭???
its still very crazy to me, its probably the cruelest thing i think theyve done proudly. and the worst part is that its NOT their bigger counterparts, its just THEM. base level THEM. THAT is who they are. maybe my brain tried to suppress that cuz its the only time in the series where i DEEPLY disagree about what theyve done. the rest of their cruelty upsets me, but this just disgusts me i guess. not only because of the animal but because they picked a slow and painful method. Every other instance of gore or general shittyness from those two i either laugh at or maybe get a little angry at them for a second like im their mom and move on. but this disturbs me. its genuinely evil to me and i hate the thought of it. the bigger boys torturing that blob thing is terrible, but theyre not the base-level guys, they act strange and disturbing intentionally. the guys on the lowest floor are just THEM. Them without any filters or add ons, thats literally just THE boys. I guess i still cant wrap my head around it even years later.
ten minutes later theyre confessing to each other… like… do they not remember anymore? was it that quick? or have they learned by now that their actions have no real consequences?
thats the thing that makes this the most uncomfortable to me, i think. theyre the way they are because anything can happen to them, and they can do anything to others, and they know they wont get any repercussions. Drowning a pet, crashing a car through your house, literally dying, getting your organs removed… none of it lasts. and they KNOW that now. but instead of being scared or freaking out like fanon always saw it, they see it as not only normal, but as an opportunity to do whatever they want. i dont think theyre aware of it enough to be articulately malicious with it, but thats whats terrifying. they NATURALLY have absolutely zero remorse and you cant expect them to. why would they? nothing really happened, did it? even when they remember doing it, whys it matter? clearly they can just change their mind, or wait it out. If death isnt for them, theyll just decide to come back. do actions mean anything in a world like that?
#i think we severely underappreciate and discuss the way the tv series main three no longer reacts to things like they used to.#the desensitization is genuinely a huge part of their characters now i feel#especially because it makes THEM complicit in the violence now!! which i think is an interesting take on the cycle!!#fanon doesnt do them justice in this regard. even from the start they have never been normal. theyve always been fucked up in the head#although they suffer at the hands of the world theyve never been shy of returning that favor on others#i like how the teachers arent really evil anymore#nobody thinks of it this way i but i feel ALL of the characters are equally fucked up and hurt each other for the same reasons#tv series duck is no better than the can that ate him in the webseries. theyre one in the same to me now#by the way— ALL does include lesley but thats a different discussion. ill defend her with my life she is NYOT the puppet master or whatever#tbh i honestly believe that the pain of the world is caused by the lack of limits and not an intention by some higher power to hurt#i believe that at least the tv series is more about the torture of being immortal and limitless against your own will or understanding#since roys been gone i dont think anything is out to hurt them i think its just impulsivity and lack of consiquence yet also lack of freedom#but idk if were ready for that convo tbh#dhmis#dhmis fandom#dont hug im scared#duck guy#red guy#fluffybird#dhmis tv show#dhmis tv series#tw animal death#tw animal abuse#cw death#cw gore#gore

this was unprompted but sharing my rodent md idea
house: fancy rat (specifically blue)
Tumblr media
obvious choice for him, he is rat-coded.
wilson: degu (can't decided between agouti or patched)
Tumblr media
he's a very round-shaped man to me so he should get a round-shaped animal.
cuddy: chinchilla (specifically brown velvet)
Tumblr media
they just remind me of her.
now the ducklings:
cameron: norwegian lemming
Tumblr media
she's very tundra animal to me.
foreman: cape porcupine
Tumblr media
they're friend shaped and so is foreman.
chase: western chestnut mouse
Tumblr media
it looks pathetic and wet, much like chase.
thirteen: gerbil (specifically grey, pied)
Tumblr media
trust me, she's like one.
taub: eastern chipmunk
Tumblr media
he just reminds me of them.
kutner: black giant squirrel
Tumblr media
he gives me squirrel vibes and the coat pattern also looks similar to the animal i usually fancast kutner as.
park: harvest mouse
Tumblr media
small™ (and they're always in situations)

"Confession, I enjoy rare pairing that people ship! My favourite art requests are rare pairs where I don’t even know who the characters are so I get to learn about them! I also get to explore how the paring would work! It’s quite nice and designing the characters into my style is fun. I also enjoy the crack ships, the ones where you question “why and how” but also start questioning the universe on “why do they work so well??” I want more fun ships and have gotten a big bored of the popular ships."
"Note nothing wrong about them I love the popular ships and ship them myself lots. I just enjoy new and fresh ships that keep things interesting. I can only do so many Henry centric ship prompts before I decide to toss him around like a rag doll… actually didn’t I already do that? (:"

i'll start this saying that i am a huge fan of canon divergent fics. what if this character didn't die, what if they were in a different house, what if this other couple had gotten together instead, those are all compelling ideas that could make really good fanfiction. i'm not a canon purist, i'm not opposed to rare pairs or crack ships, i find it very endearing when people get so deep in worldbuilding for a fanfic they build up levels of lore for background characters
but i also have a tendency to only really like those things when they fit into the logic of the pre existing world. if i happen to read a drarry fic, i don't want them to get together because harry suddenly realises the weasleys are secretly evil and draco is a poor manipulated boy and also incredibly sophisticated. i love marauders era fics but i get annoyed when snape is a one dimensional antagonist (you don't have to like him, you don't have to be on his side, but if you want to write him, you should at the very least take a moment to self reflect and understand him as a character because it will make the story BETTER)
i believe that we make better fanfiction and engage more critically with the problematics of the source material when we know it and understand it. i don't like how fatphobic harry potter is, or the underlying christian morality of it, or true love as the ultimate sacrifice, or the lack of depth of the (inexistent) gender utopia we are supposed to see in the wizarding world, but once i know those things are there and how they manifest themselves, i can work my way on my own writing to improve it
wanting to have the moral high ground of not engaging with the problematic parts of canon doesn't give you a medal or a pass to heaven, it just makes shallow puritanical writing that is only interesting if you're a teenager
the marauders fandom has always been insulated (and i want to make it clear that i DO include jily fans on this, it's your baby too and i don't care if it's ugly), and it's great to have a common lore to build up (marlene mckinnon and dorcas meadowes have been serving on marauders fanfiction for at least the one decade that i've been on the fandom and probably a lot more). the only issues here are assuming your interpretation of characters is the morally correct one and therefore changing who they are with no explanation, and assuming that interpretation has to be shared by anyone else in the fandom. to use op's metaphor, you can build your room at the house, you don't get to make everyone else live there with you
I think what bothers me about folks saying “canon doesn’t matter” is that the spirit of fandom is this concept of a house with no roof. There’s intent of the author, but then there’s interpretation and using evidence from the text to build new meaning. Within the structure of canon, how tall can you build? What can you take from the original context and expand or critique? (Basically, take canon, ask questions like, ‘haha what if these two characters who are best friends in the book fucked either other???’)
But the thing is, instead of building within the original foundations, folks are building entirely new foundations. There isn’t any inherently wrong about fanon, but you don’t get to build a new house with new rules in the lot next door, tell everyone that we all live in the new house now, and burn down the old one while people are still in it. Some of us want to live in the old house and make improvements. That’s not a bad thing.
(Also, you took parts of the old house, particularly the flashy bits that don’t really add quality to the overall structure, to build the new one and then claim “it’s better.”)
Don’t say shit like, “Canon was created by a horrible person so we’re going to ignore it!” God, you don’t get to pick and choose because the characters were literally created by the horrible person! You gotta accept that you are not morally superior to people who use canon to create transformative fic/art.
My point is, if you’re going to change stuff in a fandom that is probably older than you, don’t claim the moral high ground because you’re playing in the exact same garbage patch as the rest of us, and even if you try to cover up your corner with pretty aesthetics, you know we all live in a garbage dump together.
