Regulus felt every hair on his body bristle. He had to think quickly. He was glad that he’d had barely drunk anything and had chosen a coffee after dinner. 

He pasted a wide, dozy smile and spun around to face Lucius a little too fast. He made sure to stumble sideways, and had to use one of the bookcases to catch him before he fell on the floor. 

“Lucius!” He cried over loud as he threw his arms open. “Thank, Salazar, you found me! I got turned around and ended up in here,” He let his eyes un-focus and blinked heavily a few times as though to clear them. “But Lucius, Lucius, did you know you have an original copy of Hélas, Je me suis Transfiguré Les Pieds!” He pointed at the crumbling pages of the script from the Middle Ages. 

Lucius’s eyes narrowed, clearly still suspicious. Regulus didn’t miss the way his eyes flashed to the diary behind him. 

“I did, Regulus. It is one of Narcissa's favourites. She has spent a fortune getting it restored.” He held out his arm. “Come, your Mother is wondering where you are.” 

Regulus allowed himself to be walked back to the drawing room. He made a fool of himself and begged Lucius not to tell his mother how drunk he was. 

“You’re such a good friend, Lucius.” He gushed as he grabbed Lucius’s arm as they walked down another corridor. “I’m so glad Cissa married you.” 

By the time they got back, Lucius had an extremely smug look on his face. 

“Poor boy got turned around and went down the wrong hall and ended up in the Library.” He chuckled smoothly, wrapping his arm around Regulus’s shoulder and manoeuvring him to his seat. 

“Regulus did always love his books,” Orion barked out a laugh. “He would spend all day in ours if we allowed it.” 

No more was said about Regulus’s adventure as Candy brought them another bottle of Cognac. Regulus made sure to ask for more coffee and tapped the side of the cup with a grin on his face when Lucius caught his eye. 

Regulus kept as quiet as possible while still acting drunk. He pretended to drink a few more cups of coffee before they finally called it a night. It was later than he thought they’d be out, and he was concerned about how long Remus had been locked in his room. 

They made their goodbyes. Lucius whispered into his ear when it was his turn with Regulus. 

“Are you sure you’re sober enough to apparate?” Regulus was unsure if the concern in his voice was genuine or not. 

“I’m sure I’ll be fine. I’ve had plenty of coffee now.” He smiled as he clasped Lucius’s hands in his. 

Orion and Walburga went first, and he followed seconds after. 

Walburga was waiting for him. Her nostrils flared, and her jaw set. 

“Come now, Walburga dear. Those drinks were far more alcoholic than they tasted. I’m sure he had no idea how much they would affect him.” Orion tried to placate his wife. 

“Then he should learn to control himself when he overindulges.” She said coldly. She slipped her wand from her sleeve and pointed it at him. Regulus fell to his knees, only gasping once at the unexpected pain. It wasn’t crucio he knew that. But all the same, it felt like his core was on fire. 

She removed him from her spell and glared down at him. Slowly, he stood and schooled his features to hide all signs of pain. 

“I apologise, Mother. It won’t happen again.” He bowed his head to her. “Please excuse me. I had better go and let the dog out before he messes up the room.” He bowed again and headed upstairs. 

He removed the wards and opened the door, expecting Remus to be standing there furious, but he was sitting on the bed shaking. 

“Remus, are you okay?” He took a nervous step into the room. 

“Close the door,” Remus’s voice was high and strained. Regulus quickly shut the door and threw up a couple of silencing charms.

“Remus, what’s wrong?” Remus snorted and burst out laughing. He threw his head back and howled with laughter. He held up the mirror that Regulus hadn’t noticed he was holding, and there was Sirius’s face, beet red with very wonky eyeliner. 

Regulus folded in on himself and laughed hard. Letting all the tension he’d felt from Malfoy Manor go.

Growing up, Regulus always hated the idea of sending out Christmas greetings. 

Though his parents were very selective with who they decided to grace with a missive around the holidays, they still sent something to keep up appearances and connections. And the knowledge that a card had been signed with the name he’d been given at birth always sent a stabbing feeling to his chest. Greetings from the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, the letter started. And at the end? Regards, Orion, Walburga, Sirius, and Regina. 

He despised it.

So when he’d finally managed to escape his parents’ hold and James mentioned happily that Effie and Monty had put him on the Potter Family Christmas Card, he balked, remembering horribly stiff letters and closing signatures that made him nauseous.

“No,” he mumbled, frowning. “I don’t…I didn’t want…”

And James just looked confused. “What? Why? It’s…I actually thought it was sweet, but if you don’t want..”

He pulled out a small card, offering it to Regulus, who took it nervously.

But there on the thick paper were moving pictures that made his body relax and his anxiously-beating heart melt. Shots of Effie hugging James and Sirius. Sirius putting Regulus in a headlock. Monty helping Regulus put the star on the tree. The three boys eating cereal at the table, all wrapped in horribly festive jumpers. And one of James softly kissing a sleeping Regulus on the forehead, both of them curled up on the couch.

At the bottom, it read: Wishing you the happiest of holidays. Love, James, Sirius, Regulus, Euphemia, and Fleamont.

Refusing to cry, Regulus just held the card close to his chest. “I guess this is alright, then,” he mumbled, ignoring James’s thrilled smile.

The SLS (Space Launch System) Core Stage by Numbers

Technicians with NASA and SLS core stage lead contractor Boeing, along with RS-25 engines lead contractor Aerojet Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies company, are nearing a major milestone for the Artemis II mission. The SLS (Space Launch System) rocket’s core stage for Artemis II is fully assembled and will soon be shipped via barge from NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans to the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Once there, it will be prepped for stacking and launch activities.

Get to know the core stage – by the numbers.

Standing 212 feet tall and measuring 27.6 feet in diameter, the SLS core stage is the largest rocket stage NASA has ever built. Due to its size, the hardware must be shipped aboard NASA’s Pegasus barge.

900 miles

Once loaded, the barge – which was updated to accommodate the giant core stage -- will travel 900 miles to Florida across inland and ocean waterways. Once at Kennedy, teams with our Exploration Ground Systems team will complete checkouts for the core stage prior to stacking preparations.

18 Miles + 500 Sensors

As impressive as the core stage is on the outside, it’s also incredible on the inside. The “brains” of the rocket consist of three flight computers and special avionics systems that tell the rocket what to do. This is linked to 18 miles of cabling and more than 500 sensors and systems to help feed fuel and steer the four RS-25 engines.

8.8 million

Speaking of engines… Our SLS Moon rocket generates approximately 8.8 million pounds of thrust at launch. Two million pounds come from the four powerful RS-25 engines at the base of the core stage, while each of the two solid rocket boosters produces a maximum thrust of 3.6 million pounds. Together, the engines and boosters will help launch a crew of four Artemis astronauts inside NASA’s Orion spacecraft beyond Earth orbit to venture around the Moon.

733,000 Gallons

Achieving the powerful thrust required at launch calls for a large amount of fuel - 733,000 gallons, to be precise. The stage has two huge propellant tanks that hold the super-cooled liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen that make the rocket “go.” A new liquid hydrogen storage sphere has recently been built at Kennedy, which can store 1.25 million gallons of liquid hydrogen.

Four

The number four doesn’t just apply to the RS-25 engines. It’s also the number of astronauts who will fly inside our Orion spacecraft atop our SLS rocket for the first crewed Artemis mission. When NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, and Victor Glover along with CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen launch, they will be the first astronauts returning to the Moon in more than 50 years.

Berenzia- a kingdom ruled by a powerful, stern King. For most of his rule, most anyone would report that he was a fair man to those who relied on him and merciless to those who opposed him or wished harm to his kingdom. It’s said there was once a time where he had calmed, finally found himself beyond his role, and all was well. The people loved, practically worshipped, their soft, perfect, patient, and kind Queen but the King would tell anyone that it paled in comparison to his love for her. The King and Queen were truly one half to the same whole and envied by all. As with all things, it did not last. In a classic tale of tragedy, the King lost his beloved Queen and it is said that it was an event he could never recover from. Whisperings in the street and kingdom’s borders would report that he lost his humanity the day the Queen died.

An event that coincides with your birth.

Play as the only child of Berenzia’s king- from your isolated youth to your isolated adulthood. You’re relatively safe from your father’s ire until your mid-twenties as you must fulfill your duty and get advantageously married. Physical Description: 6’4”, ivory skin painted with freckles, red, loosely curled hair that reaches his nape, broad shoulders, thin waist, deceivingly strong despite appearance, crooked nose from a break, with warm, brown eyes.

Personality: Warm, affable, easy-going, energetic, extroverted, and impossible to not get along with. Makes anyone feel like they’re the only person in the room… until you walk in. [ENFP-T]

Info: Your childhood friend since diapers, you were born only two days apart. Alek is your first, and closest, friend. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for you. He has loved you his whole life but will never act upon it, believing you could never feel the same. He enters the battle for your hand not because he hopes you’ll see him as more than a friend, but to give you a friendly, familiar face to choose from. He’ll only ever have eyes for you. Physical Description: 6’2”, tawny skin with small burn scars scattered on his forearms from cooking, stocky build, straight brown hair (loosely tied in a knot), with piercing green eyes.

Personality: Hardworking, sardonic, introverted, pessimistic, and pessimistic. [ISTJ-A]

Info: Orion began working in the castle at a very young age, thus being one of the only other children you had around growing up. Orion could not stand your demands or position and was, and always will be, quick to point out how the real world works. Despite his cold behavior, he does come around to like you as a person (friend or romantic) and will do anything to make things… livable for you. You often spend time taking up space in his kitchen as a sanctuary of sorts. (Note: available for romantic and poly route)

Info: The second born prince from a country threatening to wage war against your own. He is hoping for a mutually beneficial marriage between the two of your to keep peace. Despises war and will do anything with minimal bloodshed to get it. Will promise you near anything if you give him your hand. Will wear whatever mask he needs to, as well. Physical Description: 5’2”, deep umber skin tone, tightly curled (4B) black hair that reaches her jaw, thin build, with amber eyes.

Personality: Fun, mischievous, joyful, secretive, confident, conspiratorial, extroverted, playful, and a tease. [ENFJ-T]

Info: One of the latest nobles to hit the scene, her father is staying at the castle to work with the king to further himself as an advisor. Noticing you lack companionship, especially female, Blaire’s father offers her up to spend her days with you. She is your first female friend and confidant. Happy to give you opinions on your suitors- you’ve become her latest project and game.

The quiet bartender has a curious perspective on things. He seems to have no problem with the HIVE members patrolling his bar, even serving them drinks like they’re normal customers, despite their heavy armor and edges that are too sharp to be humane.

He also doesn’t seem to be particularly interested in you in the slightest. Why’s that?

THE DIPLOMAT

Argos: Neutral Good. Age unknown. The deity whose spear you brandished, after his passing. He was a good man, but the fact only makes your sins rest heavier in your heart.

Teacher: True Neutral. Around ~200 years old. The chasm-dwelling shadow who taught you all you know of the Chasm and its residents.

Alistar: alignment unknown. Around ~200 years old. That’s you! You’re Alistar. At least, that’s what the world has been calling you ever since you ended the war and revitalized humanity, so that is what you will be referred to as throughout the entirety of the story. However, if you’d like to change your name (as Alistar is the default) you may!

As I am primarily an author (as in I literally have done nothing else with my life) I am new to coding (I took ONE coding club in fourth grade) and am trying to write out and perfect a chapter before converting it into typical IF form.

Once I manage to get things situated, I’ll started to code. I’m currently almost done writing chapter 4, so I’ll start working on coding once I finish it.
