O terceiro americano da noite foi este belo Pinot Noir do Oregon, o “Siduri Hawks View 2015”. . Produzido pela @SiduriWines em Willamette Valley, não encontrei informações sobre estágio em barricas. . Tem cor rubi leve e aromas de frutas vermelhas maduras (morangos e groselha) com um toque floral e um leve herbal. Na boca é seco e com acidez e corpo médios. Os taninos são médio-baixos de ótima qualidade e os sabores frutados tem moderada persistência. . Um vinho de pouca complexidade, tanto ao nariz quando à boca, mas que é muito equilibrado e fácil de beber, sem nada fora do lugar... During my first visit to Oregon 8 years ago, the floral aromatics and overall quality of Cristom’s single vineyard 2008 Pinot Noirs made a lasting impression. So I was very excited to spend a beautiful afternoon seeing the vineyards (pics 6-7), touring the barrel room (pics 4-5), and, most importantly, tasting through Cristom’s fine lineup (pic 8)! The highlight of the tasting was the side-by-side tasting of the four 2016 single vineyard Pinot Noirs - Eileen, Jessie, Louise and Marjorie. While Marjorie receives the most acclaim, the Eileen showed the best on Sunday with amazing aromatics that just exploded from the glass! Given my obsession with Syrah and Northern Rhône wines, I also very much enjoyed the 16 Syrah, which is made in a Cote Rotie style with 4.5% Viognier. Today's post is St. Innocent's 2014 Pinot Noir from their Freedom Hill Vineyard. This Willamette Valley Pinot is a New World alternative to Burgundy. St. Innocent's owner and winemaker Mark Vlossak recently moved his winery to the South Salem Hills in Oregon. This deep rich wine offers dark cherry, red fruit and spice notes which blend well with with a minerality/earthiness that is distinctive of Oregon Pinot Noir. Freedom Hill Vineyard produces Pinot noirs with structure, depth, and richness as well as a strong sense of minerality. The vineyard, owned and managed by Dan Dusschee, is located in the foothills of the Coast Range mountains which helps to keep the vineyard cool at night. Cool nights help to maintain the acidity in the wine and help cool the grapes so they do not ripen too quickly and the combination of ripe tannins and acidity produces Pinot noir with great structure. The grapes were de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel with natural yeasts and without the use of Sulphur Dioxide. Winemaker Wayne Bailey is a farmer at heart, and tends the vines on this estate property with great care and attention to nature and terroir. My Willamette trip started with an incredible experience at White Rose Estate, which is nestled high atop the spectacular Dundee Hills (swipe left for stunning views)! Winemaker Tresider Burns (pic 2) guided me through an in-depth tasting of 6 wines (pics 3-4), plus a couple special barrel samples! While White Rose was started in 2001, it has already established itself as one of the best producers of Pinot Noir in Willamette Valley. They use 100% whole cluster fermentation, which often results in intriguing floral aromatics in the wines. The 15 Anderson Family Vineyard was my favorite in the very strong lineup, but the barrel sample of 18 White Rose Estate was already drinking shockingly well even before bottling!
