Quite dry with an almost champagne like flavor. Day 16 - Alquézar and La Ruta de Pasarelas

Woke to the awful discovery that ants have been attacking the tent. We now have a series of tiny holes all over the place :( gutting.

Going the distance has taken its toll on the car tyres. The twisty road under heavy load has worn the tyre edges so Lee wanted to get them replaced before our drive in the Pyrenees tomorrow.

First we wanted to get our walk in before the mercury rose too high. We didn’t have to venture too far along the route to be wowed by the terrain. We let Gryff off and he was in his element. We decended down over slippery rocks worn smooth by so many feet. When we reached the river at the bottom Gryff made one of his puppy frenzies. Next the route followed some metal walk ways suspended on the cliff face.

We were just thinking about getting Gryff back on his lead when he found a group of Germans enjoying their lunch on the river bed. He quickly snatched a half a cantaloupe melon and dashed off with it. He got a couple of chomps in at a time between us trying to catch him and very soon it was gone. Fortunately the victims of the robbery were not mad about it and the whole group was laughing loudly at the cheeky opportunist.

The sun got hotter by the time we were climbing back up so we were glad to reach the town again and enjoy a scenic lunch with delicious vino.

Then we had to go down to the nearest big town to get these tyres. Between google translate and some gestures we managed to communicate our needs and before too long we were away again.

The trip down to Barbastro gave us the opportunity to visit another cellar. This time the impressive Sommos estate. Our main difficulty in paying a visit is what to do with Gryff so we had to take turns to mind him and taste the wine.

We returned to camp for a cup of tea followed by a cool off in the pool again. Samuel again seemed to enjoy himself but not for too long to save him getting too cool.

Lee then went to the bar to watch the first England match and I took Samuel and Gryff out for a walk up to Alquézar again. I couldn’t get further than the tarmaced surface as I had a tired baby and I forgot to take his dummy with me - fail!

I returned to the bar to find a very happy Lee and left Gryff with him to enjoy the last few minutes of the England match while Samuel and I went back to the tent for bed.

A quick one night getaway to the tiny town of Jenner. Enjoyed this 2004 Scribe Cabernet Sauvignon on the deck of our cottage at the River’s End Inn. Behind the wine you can see the Russian River flowing into the Pacific Ocean. The view is stunning and the wine matched the view. At 16 years old the wine is aging beautifully. The color is still deep and showing no browning. Curtir o final de tarde com um belo vinho é tudo de bom, não acham? 🌅 Este foi o vinho da tarde da última quarta-feira: o “Tannat 2019” da @BodegaAltoDeLaBallena 🇺🇾. Um clássico varietal de Tannat da região de Maldonado (a cerca de 15km do Atlântico), maturado 12 meses em barricas de carvalho francês usadas. 🍷Na taça, cor rubi intensa, com reflexos violáceos. Aromas de frutas negras (amora e jabuticaba) maduras, um toque de especiarias, leve balsâmico e discreto tabaco. Na boca tem corpo médio, acidez média+ e taninos médio+, bastante macios. Aroma de licor de frutas negras, com moderada persistência. 📝 Um gostoso Tannat, jovem e bastante frutado, com taninos marcados mas de alta qualidade. Foi bem sozinho e também com carne vermelha. Beber nos próximos 2 anos. 90 pontos. . My Willamette trip started with an incredible experience at White Rose Estate, which is nestled high atop the spectacular Dundee Hills (swipe left for stunning views)! Winemaker Tresider Burns (pic 2) guided me through an in-depth tasting of 6 wines (pics 3-4), plus a couple special barrel samples! While White Rose was started in 2001, it has already established itself as one of the best producers of Pinot Noir in Willamette Valley. They use 100% whole cluster fermentation, which often results in intriguing floral aromatics in the wines. The 15 Anderson Family Vineyard was my favorite in the very strong lineup, but the barrel sample of 18 White Rose Estate was already drinking shockingly well even before bottling!
